Resumen
Hong Kong is situated at the center of the air traffic axis for Asia, and has, at Kai Tak, one of the busiest airports in the world. The areahas experienced a ten-fold increase in population over 25 years and now has the highest urban density in Asia. Hong Kong is in the monsoon belt and is subjected to the very severe weather conditions of typhoons.Kai Tak airport is unique. The main 7,000 foot runway is substantially reclaimed from the harbor which in turn lies within a spectacular mountain bowl. The 310° flight path traverses the north end of the Kowloon peninsula with equally spectacular urban development.Overall disaster contingency planning within this broad spectrum is the responsibility of a joint Police/Military Command. An Aircraft Accident Committee coordinates joint emergency service planning, command and communications training and exercises.Response to an aircraft disaster is initated by Air Traffic Control through the joint Fire Service/Police/Military Command which sets up a discretionary response for intervention, search and rescue by land, sea and air.Although the problems are universal, the Maximum Credible Incident scale is extraordinary to Hong Kong. Unique means of dealing with this problem have been specially evolved here, particularly in the field of fire fighting and marine rescue which involve a Catamaran Rescue and Immediate Care Vessel.

Resumen
In the years 2021–2022, a research team gathered at the OSP Niegoszowice unit (Małopolskie Voivodeship) conducted scientific research and tests related to the use of unmanned aerial vehicle systems in operational activities (exercises): fire services (state and voluntary units), police units, during search and rescue operations, disaster or crisis situations related to the protection of sensitive infrastructure at the airport. During this time, over 500 test flights were performed with multirotor aircraft from various manufacturers (including Autel Evo II Pro 6k, Autel Evo II 8k, DJI Mavic II Dual Enterprise, DJI Matrice 300, Yuneec H520). The analyzes and research carried out so far have shown that it is necessary to develop a mobile system for the implementation of a photogrammetric raid of vast areas using unmanned aerial vehicles, a system for creating orthophotos and data transmission using unmanned systems that perform automatic flights and operate systemically in a set of vehicles enabling take-off and landing on moving platforms. The system should enable battery charging or replacement, thus ensuring continuous operation, data transmission and archiving, and task management. It is necessary to implement satellite techniques and technologies (GNSS), geographic information systems (GIS) about terrain, numerical terrain models, to develop a database necessary for the construction of artificial (ANN) or simulated (SNN) neural networks enabling detection and detection (fires, people, objects). There are important properties and properties of unmanned systems, determining their use in Voluntary Fire Service, State Fire Service, police and airport services units.

Resumen
Introduction. The most dangerous emergency situation at the airport is an accident with human casualties, that is, a plane crash. It can occur on the territory of the airport, in its vicinity, as a result of take-off or landing of an aircraft. The consequences of aviation emergencies show that when a plane crash occurs in the area of responsibility of the airport, there is a death of passengers in 85 % of cases. At the same time, it is possible to increase the survival rate of people with a timely response to a plane crash. However, if an airport infrastructure facility may be affected in a significant way as a result of an emergency, the work to eliminate the consequences of the initial emergency event is supplemented by work on the new situation that has arisen. At the same time, a characteristic feature of an aviation emergency is a large number of options for the development of the situation and actions. This requires constant adjustment of measures to ensure the safety of the airport complex, the protection of passengers (people) and infrastructure within the airport, as well as the organization of its emergency and fire protection. The purpose of the study is to improve the efficiency of planning, organizing and conducting individual activities and their complex for the protection of people and infrastructure in an emergency situation at the airport, and in general, organizing emergency rescue operations at the airport complex facilities in an emergency. Research methods. To obtain the results, we used general scientific and special methods of scientific knowledge, namely, analysis, synthesis, generalization, which were based on the general provisions of systems theory, operations research, and information theory. The results of the study. Proposals for organizing fire-fighting and emergency rescue operations at airport infrastructure facilities, safety requirements for service, fire extinguishing and emergency rescue operations at the airport, and reducing the impact of damaging factors of an emergency situation at the airport are substantiated, as well as an economic assessment of the consequences of safety violations and flight regularity. Conclusion. Taking into account the provisions reviewed will generally improve security management of the airport complex, and additional activities will enable better management of emergency rescue forces and facilities. Resumen
The COVID-19 outbreak has brought an unprecedented crisis in both the tourism travel and aviation sectors. Understanding how firms compete guaranteeing mobility in an uncertain situation like the current one is a fundamental question in the field of socioeconomic planning and development. Using two-stage least squares (2SLS) regression analysis, this research studies the relationship between the incidence of COVID-19 in tourism destinations and the airline pricing policy. To this end, big data and business analytics techniques were used to obtain 2,668 price observations from 13 European airports to the five main Spanish sun and beach destinations. The results suggest a high inverse relationship between the incidence of the virus in the destination region and the mobility and price of the airline ticket. Other factors like economic activity, fleet capacity, and the distance between origin and destination have also been decisive in airlines' price-setting strategies during the current pandemic.

Resumen
This chapter covers three areas of institutional changes in the European aviation sector that may significantly affect the dynamics of the tourism industry. Further to the introduction, airlines are discussed in section two; airports are analysed in section three; and air navigation service provision are presented in section four. The dynamics of these three pillars and the interrelationship with the tourism industry is explored in section five. Among others, the chapter argues that when a proper systemic approach is followed any smart relaxation of regulatory and infrastructural constraints will have positive repercussions on tourism growth and development not only of central places but also of more peripheral regions. Finally, section six concludes and discusses the way forward.

Resumen
Transport infrastructure across all four sub-sectors – road, rail, ports, and airports – is critical for facilitating development in Africa as it provides an essential platform for accelerated economic growth. Transport services sustain economic activity and enable socioeconomic progress. If necessary infrastructure is not timely constructed, then Africa’s growth prospects will be hampered. Attention needs to be drawn to five broad policy reform themes common to the transport sub-sectors covered: enhancing the role of transport corridors and regional investment, adopting an integrated approach to transport standards and policies, developing financing strategies to leverage private sector participation, promoting regulatory and institutional reforms; and building institutional capacity to execute reforms. These proposed reforms are an intrinsically connected package. For them to be successful in improving infrastructure development outcomes, it is important that policy actions are coordinated. However, in certain reform areas, ‘quick wins’ should be prioritized, building confidence for tackling further, more challenging reforms.

Resumen
The article is devoted to identifying the features of the state and development of air transport in the transport sector of Ukraine. According to the results, the share of air transport in the structure of passenger traffic by major modes of transport has increased almost five times, and only in 2019 – three times. With the current reduction in the number of trips by road, water and rail transport, there is a rapid increase in the number of trips by air transport per capita. It is established that due to the large distances of transportation, air transport occupies a significant share in the structure of passenger transportation in Ukraine by different modes of transport. During 2016–2019 there was an increase in the growth rate of all volume indicators of domestic airlines, in particular, passenger turnover – almost twice, 67% more passengers were transported. Due to the growth of the number of flights in the airspace of Ukraine, the volume indicators increased and the financial results of «UKSATSE» (Ukrainian State Air Traffic Service Enterprise) and domestic airports for the period 2016–2019 improved. Domestic airline passenger traffic decreased by 65% in 2020 due to measures against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The article will explore and collect information about the possible accidents with the Airbus 220-300 aircraft, which is the new and largest aircraft that can be serviced at Riga airport. Previously, such a large plane had not been serviced at Riga Airport, so the article will gather technical information about the characteristics of the Airbus 220-300 compared to previous model planes. As part of the work, passenger evacuation modelling will be carried out with the help of the Pathfinder program, which will be used for emergency simulation. The results of the study may be used to implement further improvements, as well as to ensure more efficient firefighting team work in emergencies in the Riga Airport liability area, as well as other airports serving the Airbus 220-300 aircraft. Reaching the aim will provide an opportunity to look at different variations in the evacuation of people depending on the composition of passengers, behaviour and location of escape exits.

Resumen
Service failures and the following service recovery of a firm can greatly influence customer satisfaction, customer loyalty and the relationship quality with the firm, regardless of other firm’s efforts to establish strong relationships with its customers in the long run. Airlines in particular are struggling with several obstacles concerning their business continuity and ability to survive. One of the obstacles is the fact that they are subject to inevitable service failures which are unavoidable. Meanwhile, the concept of potent service recovery has become extremely vital in terms of retaining customer satisfaction. This research paper examines the relationship of service failures and service recovery and passenger satisfaction. The data was collected from domestic passengers at the Sultan Mahmud Airport in Terengganu. The relationships among the variables of the study were supported. Based on the findings of this study, it is suggested that the airline management team and staff plan an effective recovery mechanisms to rectify service failures

Resumen
The goal of this paper was to measure and assess the international expansion of independent ground handling providers. Based on the results of individual measurements, we can state that each of the five most important independent providers of groundhandling services selected by us has already undergone a significant international expansion, and thus currently prefers the service of foreign airports to domestic ones. Globalization and the liberalization of the entire aviation sector have largely contributed to this fact, mainly due to the unlocking of market entry and the creation of more favorable conditions on foreign markets. Among the secondary objectives we have included an analysis of the state of the ground handling sector together with an analysis of the European liberalization Directive 96/67 / EC and its impact on the European groundhandling market. The main findings were that for example prices for the provision of ground handling services fell more sharply, while the quality of services increased and the number of providers at airports generally increased, which helped to increase the market share of third-party ground handling providers. The motive for the elaboration of the paper was the outdatedness of previous studies aimed at assessing the international expansion of ground handling service providers. Another motive was the elaboration of a proposal for a measurement method with regard to the performance of providers in foreign markets. The paper presents individual calculations with current input data and classification of providers in terms of the shape of global expansion, taking into account the current ongoing global pandemic Covid-19

Resumen
This study aims to assess the impact of selected economic indicators (independent variables) on the turnover of food and beverage service companies in Lithuania. In order to achieve the intended goal of the study, an analysis of scientific articles was performed, with the primary aim to find out the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for the Lithuanian economy and select five independent variables that could affect the turnover of food and beverage companies. After analysing the literature, five independent variables were highlighted: the number of tourists accom-modated, the statistics of Vilnius Airport flights, the number of employees hired, the unemployment rate and inflation. The correlation and regression analysis results show that the turnover of catering and beverage enterprises and the number of accommodated tourists are strongly correlated (r > 0.90). Meanwhile, the linear correlation between the number of Vilnius Airport flights and the number of hired employees with the research variable is average (0.60 < r < 0.70). However, the linear correlation of macroeconomic factors such as unemployment and inflation with the turno-ver of food and beverage enterprises is statistically insignificant

Resumen
Pilot reports (PIREPs) are reports describing in-flight weather conditions submitted by pilots, and provide crucial weather information to other pilots for pre-flight and in-flight planning. However, the current PIREP system is antiquated, prone to error, and has been identified as a safety concern according to a 2017 National Transportation Safety Board Special Report. The current paper describes some preliminary results from a proof of concept study investigating the feasibility, utility, and usability of a PIREP submission and retrieval process that uses VHF radio, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. In this concept, pilots were able to submit and retrieve PIREPs without talking to an air traffic controller but by communicating with an automated VHF ground station via a voice-user interface. Pilots were also able to retrieve PIREPs online (website and mobile app), where they could listen to voice recordings of PIREPs or read voice-to-text transcriptions of PIREPs submitted in their local area. Most aircraft today are equipped with a VHF radio, which is the primary communication tool used to file PIREPs via communicating either with a Flight Service or Air Traffic Control facility. The use of a dedicated radio frequency for submitting and retrieving PIREPs has the potential to provide an additional mechanism for pilots to communicate these reports reducing congestion on other FSS and ATC frequencies. For the period of time between November 4, 2022 and April 30, 2023; over 200 pilot-participants who were flying within or overflying the areas with radius of ~ 50 nm from two airports—Will Rogers World Airport (KOKC) in Oklahoma and Nenana Municipal Airport (PANN) in Alaska submitted and retrieved~5,000 PIREPs. Two PIREP ground station identifiers were used for this research: (a) “PIREP Watch Alaska” and (b) “PIREP Watch Oklahoma”. For this initial phase of the research, the system did not have the capability to map ADS-B equipped aircraft to aircraft type, location or altitude without querying the pilot. Pilots identified a number of areas of growth for this concept, such as the need for aviation-specific vocabulary in the voice-to-text transcription aspect of the technology. Overall, pilots were highly enthusiastic about the proof of concept study and supported the feasibility, utility, and usability of this novel method of submitting and retrieving PIREPs. This innovative system preserves the human element in modern weather information sources by allowing pilots to use free form when reporting their direct weather observations in-flight while eliminating the need to talk to an air traffic controller or flight service specialist. Furthermore, it offers data-driven support for modernizing the PIREP system.

Resumen
Abstract As the aviation industry has become more complex and uncertain, we need to teach aviation topics with different pedagogical approaches: making the educational setting interdisciplinary and more design- and user-driven. We developed a design curriculum to address emerging complexity around air travel journeys and piloted the curriculum at a major research university in the Netherlands. Novice students in engineering, design, and social science programs in the Future of Airport minor on campus engaged in a quarter-long design course centered on the seamless air travel experience. The course aims to teach students how to approach the complexity of an airport and the stakeholders involved and design for people in transit. Data were collected from the results of work in document format (project progress reports and final deliverables) from thirty-five student teams who collaborated with aviation industry sponsors to develop solutions to address complex system-level industry design challenges. We classified the detailed project brief and outcomes by different innovation levels (product, service, system, or socio-technical), and examined the design methods implemented by each team over the design process. Our discussion is divided into (D1) trajectory of levels of innovation traveled during the project execution, (D2) descriptive reflection on overall selecting design methods, (D3) design method selection dynamics over design phases in complex problem domains, and (D4) challenges of offering a design approach to novice engineering students, drawn from the reflection by course coordinators and coaches on the course structure and contents.

Resumen
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advisory circular AC 150/5100-13 authorized the use of state highway material specifications at nonprimary public-use airports serving aircraft less than 60,000 pounds gross weight. This approval is based on the condition that the safety and life span of these airports will not be adversely affected. The use of highway materials provides the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) with benefits, including cost, expertise, material availability, and sustainability. This study investigated the feasibility of using highway mixes for nonprimary airport pavements. Three classes of mixes were evaluated—namely, IDOT highway mixes, IDOT state airport mixes, and FAA airport mixes. The matrix consisted of 18 mixes: 15 surface and 3 binder mixes. The 15 surface mixes comprised seven laboratory-designed (five highway, two airport) and eight plant-produced mixes (four highway, four airport). All binder mixes were airport mixes and had the same composition and mix design parameters as highway mixes. Mixture performance was evaluated using the Hamburg wheel-tracking test (HWTT) to evaluate rut potential, the Illinois flexibility index test (I-FIT) to assess cracking potential, and the tensile strength ratio (TSR) test to evaluate moisture susceptibility. Performance testing was performed at both air voids of 4% and 7% corresponding to the initial in-place densities of nonprimary airports and highways, respectively. From the HWTT results, highway mixes had lower rut potential than airports mixes. With respect to the TSR test, airport mixes had lower tensile strengths than highway mixes. However, the TSR values (ratio of conditioned to unconditioned tensile strength) were similar for highway and airports mixes. The I-FIT results demonstrated comparable results between highway and airport mixes. Airport mixes had higher and comparable flexibility index for laboratory and plant mixes, respectively. By leveraging highway construction materials and methods, nonprimary airports could be constructed with greater expertise using more sustainable pavement materials that may yield reduced costs.
