Resumen
The main goal of this paper is to argue that Korean pronouns must be phi-feature-compatible with their antecedents, whereas Korean reflexives are not. It is worth pointing out that Korean pronouns are sensitive to the number feature, whereas Korean anaphors are not. A major point to note is that every-type QPs have a Q feature that is plural in its number, whereas which-type QPs have an optional Q-feature that is singular or plural in number. A further point to note is that Korean pronouns are sensitive to phi-features, which is in accordance with Safir’s (2014) hypothesis that “D-bound anaphora must be feature-compatible with its antecedent”. With respect to Korean pronouns, it is worth noting that Safir’s hypothesis does not work for Korean pronouns since they induce a bound variable reading through the phi-feature agreement. Finally, it is significant to note that Korean anaphors are not feature-compatible with antecedents and that they yield a bound variable reading regardless of their phi-features.

Resumen
In this paper we argue that to a great extent noun class agreement in Swahili is based on inflectional features. Yet where inflectional features are not present, a derivational feature of inherent noun class controls agreement. Swahili, then, is seen as having a dual noun class system in which agreement is controlled by a hierarchical set of features ranging from inflectional to derivational. The evidence from Swahili indicates that Anderson's [1982] claim that inflectional morphology alone is relevant to syntax may be too strong and supports a weaker version admitting some interaction of derivational morphology with syntax.

Resumen
Rigorous definitions are proposed for three important syntactic-morphological concepts: agreement, government and congruence. They are defined as particular cases of morphological dependency between wordforms of an utterance (distinguished from semantic and syntactic dependencies between wordforms). Definitions are based on the intermediate concepts of agreement class and related inflectional categories, as well as on the concepts of inflectional category, grammeme, syntactics feature and syntactics feature value. AGREEMENT is defined (roughly speaking) as a morphological dependency where a grammeme of the target, which is not a substitute pronoun, is selected depending either 1) upon a grammeme of a related category of the controller, or 2) upon its agreement class, pronominal person or pronominal number (syntactics features), or else 3) upon some of its semantic properties. GOVERNMENT is defined as a morphological dependency where a grammeme of the target is selected depending either 1) upon a grammeme of an unrelated category of the controller or 2) upon one of its syntactics features, which is not agreement class, pronominal person or pronominal number. CONGRUENCE is defined as a morphological dependency where a grammeme of the target, which is a substitute pronoun replacing an occurrence of the controller, is selected depending upon any property of the controller. Numerous examples of agreement, government and congruence are cited and analyzed, a comparison of agreement and government is presented, and relationships between these concepts and other types of dependencies are examined.

Resumen
AbstractThe prevailing assumption is that anResearch underlying this study was conducted with support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research grant #17-06-00460.agreement feature originates in one linguistic element, that is a controller, and is copied onto another one, a target. This form-to-form approach encounters massive difficulties when confronted with data, such as missing controllers or feature mismatches. A cognition-to-form mapping approach is proposed instead, suggesting that agreement features, such as person, number, and gender, are associated with referents in the cognitive representation. They serve to specify referents on either notional or conventional grounds, and are thus referential features. Referential features are mapped onto various sites in linguistic structure, including inflections. Parallel agreement between various sites is observed, as a side effect of mappings from the same cognitive source. Languages differ in which and how many sites for marking referential features they require. Analysis of Russian evidence suggests that the cognition-to-form mapping approach has a much greater explanatory force than the traditional form-to-form approach. There are only peripheral classes of instances in which form-to-form agreement may be needed as a supplementary factor. In general, the roots of agreement lie in cognitively motivated discourse processes associated with reference.

Resumen
In this paper, we analyse the intricate agreement pattern attested with inflected quantifiers, intensifiers and anaphors in Tatar. These nominals can trigger not only a default 3rd person agreement, but also the marked person agreement reflecting the features of their restrictor or binder. We propose that in these constructions, inflected quantifiers, intensifiers and anaphors bear the features the agreement reveals, and propose a mechanism allowing inflected quantifiers, intensifiers and anaphors to aquire the features of the restrictor or binder. We build on the idea that agreeing inflected quantifiers, intensifiers and anaphors contain a minimal pronoun equipped with a set of unvalued interpretable features, and that this feature set gets valued via feature sharing.

Resumen
The paper rejects the standard view according to which every tensed verb in English agrees with its subject in person and number. It argues that person is irrelevant to all verbs except BE, and that past-tense verbs and modals (other than BE) have no number agreement features. It discusses agreement mismatches which reflect the subject's meaning, but rejects the idea that subject–verb agreement may be a semantic rule; it proposes instead a new feature ‘agreement-number’. This extra number feature applies only to the subject of a tensed verb and by default has the same value as the subject's ordinary number, while also allowing various kinds of mismatch (for I and you, and for cases of ‘semantic’ agreement). It also offers analyses of agreement with non-nominal subjects and dummy there, and shows how the analysis for Standard English generalizes easily to a range of variations found in nonstandard dialects. The theoretical basis for the analysis is Word Grammar, whose main advantage is that features are free to be assigned by rule because they are not used in classification.

Resumen
The global diffusion of a food culture increasingly attentive to the quality and authenticity of products has been reflected in recent years in the growing market demand for typical products linked to the culture and traditions of particular places, and therefore for products with geographical indications. Considered important intellectual property rights, geographical indications have been subject to a regulatory process in which the European Union has been the first to develop a sui generis protection regime. For years engaged in the project of enhancing and protecting geographical indications, the EU has been seeking to conclude bilateral cooperation agreements with third countries in order to give further impetus to this project. In this context, cooperation has developed with China which, like Europe, enjoys a sophisticated food culture that includes a huge variety of quality GI products. The collaboration initiated in 2010 led to the two parties signing an agreement on cooperation and protection of geographical indications. Considered to be the first important bilateral trade agreement between the two powers, since its entry into force on 1 March 2021 it has already made its first effects felt, bringing economic and social benefits within the territories of the two parties. Through a careful analysis and comparison of existing GI protection regimes at international level and of the main legislative interventions on GIs, with particular reference to the European and Chinese legislative systems, the present work aims to analyse the bases and main motivations that led China and Europe to collaborate in this historically important project. By examining the contents and characteristics of the agreement, this paper then aims to investigate what is the impact of the agreement and what are the main implications and benefits it brings. In particular, through a brief case study, the work attempts to examine in more detail the relevance of the agreement for the Italian Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO supply chain in its process of affirmation within the Chinese market.

Resumen
Intraocular pressure measurement is a routine clinical examination performed in ophthalmic practice. It is vital in clinical monitoring, diagnosis and management of certain eye diseases. There are many types of tonometers currently available to measure the intraocular pressure (IOP). These tonometers employ different technologies compared to the standard Goldman applanation tonometer (GAT). Studies often report inter-tonometry agreement and bias of new tonometers against GAT. However, only a minority have studied the proportionate bias and factors that influence the inter-tonometry bias of a new tonometer. The inter-tonometry agreement is vulnerable to the influence of corneal physical and mechanical properties. The information on reliability and agreement between different tonometers is very important in the management of ocular diseases. The aim of this thesis was to examine the inter-tonometry agreement between five different tonometers. The influence on IOP of demographic and ocular factors was investigated. This thesis investigates the biomechanical characteristics of the cornea of normal, glaucomatous and keratoconus subjects and the factors that influence biomechanical parameters. The tonometers employed were found to have a good agreement with GAT but the tonometry values were not interchangeable. The bias of each tonometer was influenced differently by central corneal thickness (CCT), specific corneal biomechanical parameters and age. Clinicians should be cautious when examining glaucoma and keratoconus patients with different tonometers, as most demonstrate significant proportionate bias. The corneal biomechanical parameters in subjects with different ocular diagnoses revealed variable significance and was influenced by age, CCT and corneal curvature. Future research to identify unique corneal parameters in different ocular conditions may be of importance especially in screening and diagnosis.

Resumen
This thesis critically analyses the intriguing behaviour of plural inanimate nouns triggering partial agreement in subject–verb–object (SVO) word order in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). The analysis focuses on three significant morphosyntactic features of agreement: animacy, gender and number. I follow integrated theoretical assumptions of current Minimalism and Distributed Morphology (DM). I operate on the consonantal root-and-pattern property of MSA to argue for a DM approach to feature analysis. I argue that assignment of gender values takes place during syntax before PF whereas the exponence of agreement features takes place post-syntactically at phonological form. I argue for a decompositional analysis for the structure of determiner phrase (DP) in which agreement features are not located at the same syntactic head within the nominal. Following Ritter (1993) and Zabbal (2002), number heads its own syntactic projection, and thus number phrase (NumP) is the syntactic locus for inflectional number values of the nominal. I argue for two locations for number values: NumP, which hosts the distributive reading, and n, which hosts the collective reading interpretation. I also argue for a decompositional analysis of nP in which there are two ns; the closest to the root hosts the interpretable gender that is assigned based on the semantic properties of the nominal, whereas the higher n hosts the uninterpretable gender assigned arbitrarily to the noun. I argue that this structure provides a satisfactory analysis for the agreement behaviour of mixed-agreement nouns. With respect to agreement, I argue for an Agree-based approach in which the probe enters into an Agree relationship with a goal in its c-commanding domain. Following Doron (2000), I assume that the presence of an Extended Projection Principle feature on T is optional and conditioned by the goal’s capability to move to [Spec, TP].

Resumen
In this thesis, I develop a lexicon-syntactic study about the internal structure of the personal pronouns in Brazilian Portuguese (henceforth BP), aiming the investigation of which the formative features of a pronoun in BP are and their relationship with the syncretism phenomenon. Empirically, I show a description of the internal structure of the personal pronouns in BP, showing that the traditional φ-features which build a pronoun (person, number and gender) are actually categories which bare more elemental features which define the content and the shape of a pronoun. More elementary component structures of the categories person, number and gender are able to describe satisfactorily the pronoun paradigm in BP. Therefore, the different pronouns (and their syntactic roles) can be described through their inner composition, holding some features, such as [SPECIFIC], once considered out of their structure. Theoretically, I define which elementary formative features that form a pronoun are, how this composition is made and which its syntactic consequences are. To do so, I adopt a feature geometry developed based on Harley & Ritter (2002) and Béjar (2003)`s proposals. I assume, then, that the pronoun formative features obey a hierarchy which is based on underspecification. The φ-theory proposed by Béjar (2003; 2008) supports adequately the pronoun compositionality developed for BP. Likewise, decomposition for Case categories is made as an optimal solution for Case configuration, which takes into account evidence from languages like English and BP, which present Case differences only in their personal pronouns. Case, then, is treated geometrically, analogue to that proposed to φ-features. As a result, Case categories in BP obey the geometry [C[OBL[GEN][ABL]]]. A value mechanism for these features is proposed also analogue to the one for φ-features.

This research is embedded in the Chomskyan linguistic theory, specifically in the Principles and Parameters framework (Chomsky, 1981 and following) and its more recent reformulations, namely, the Minimalist Program (Chomsky, 1995 and following) and it has as main objectives to analyze and to explain the acquisition process of grammatical number agreement between the elements of the DP in Brazilian Portuguese and to explain the diversity found in the speech data of children with regard to the realization of grammatical number. The acquisition data presented in this investigation are the spontaneous production of two children in the acquisition phase of the city of Maceió-AL, one male and one female, with 2, 11 and 3, 5 respectively. Data from other languages are derived from other studies have made. We hypothesize that the information corresponding to the number on the items that form the functional category Determinant (D) is of fundamental importance for the identification number of the grammatical system of the Portuguese, being the decisive factor responsible for the core agreement between the nominal number of elements of DP in PB. Put another way, the core where the number would be interpretable trace is a parameter to be fixed and the core in determining the number that would be interpretable in BP. This would explain the fact that where agreement is non-redundant, BW brand morphological number appears in the determinant, the other way, ie, one in which the morpheme is adjoined only to the name, an ungrammatical form, at least in PB. This would explain the fact that where agreement is non-redundant, BW brand morphological number appears in the determinant, the other way, i. e, one in which the morpheme is adjoined only to the name, an ungrammatical form, at least in PB. Regarding the agreement between the DP flexionáveis elements, we assume as in Chomsky (1988, 1989) that this is due to a syntactic operation, Agree, but recast in Frampton & Gutmann (2000a). With this reformulation, it is assumed as a sharing agreement between core syntactic features. The results of the analysis of language production of children acquiring the CP, we can conclude that the appearance of determinants can be defined as a trigger for the parameter of agreement nominal internal elements of the DP, the trace of definiteness is crucial for setting the parameter agreement, and the co-occurrence in the speech patterns of children from non-redundant and redundant grammatical and even ungrammatical pattern. We conclude that this fact can be explained due to the variation of the input to which the child is exposed, ie, input variable has also resulted in an output variable. Thinking of PB in the data, we conclude that D is, being the head of the chain-б responsible for definiteness and semantic interpretation at LF, bearing the mark of plural. Where have varieties of brand PB morphology on all elements of the phrase, we can consider that the brand is spreading because of the sharing features.

Second language acquisition (SLA) has been a dominant field in linguistics research over the past several decades. In this field, researchers have investigated what makes learning the grammar of a second language difficult and they have identified many factors that may contribute to this difficulty, including agreement processing. In linguistic terms, agreement refers to the necessary covariation of grammatical features between two of more syntactic constituents. In prior years of agreement processing research, some authors examined how native speakers process varying grammatical features (e.g. number and gender) in agreement relations. In recent years, however, they have turned towards L2 learners and have investigated whether learners can attain native-like levels of processing agreement in a second language. While some researchers have investigated differences between learners and native speakers, others have examined the effect of individual differences on agreement processing. Of particular interest to this thesis is working memory capacity (WMC) and its effect during the different processing stages of agreement. Lastly, features expressed through agreement may affect individuals' processing behavior. Different features (e.g. person, number, gender) are regularly expressed in agreement relations by different manifestations of exponence. Many authors have investigated the effect different features have on processing agreement when those features are expressed by separative exponence. Fewer have examined the effect of cumulative exponence on agreement processing.Eye tracking is a useful psycholinguistic tool to investigate these questions. Using eye tracking, I examine English learners of Spanish and their eye behavior as they processed Spanish verbal agreement and investigate whether they demonstrate sensitivity similar to native Spanish speakers while processing verbal agreement errors. I investigate if individuals demonstrate similar sensitivity when processing three different types of verbal agreement errors—number, person, and tense. Additionally, I examine whether individuals' sensitivity to agreement errors is affected by working memory capacity. Using a linear mixed effects model, I analyze the eye tracking data and share the results of the analyses and their implications for L2 research in agreement processing.

Many procedures have been developed to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. In this context, Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CADx) systems were designed to provide to the specialist a reliable second opinion. This study presents the proposal of investigating the diagnostic ability of a computational system in the characterization of suspicious findings in B-mode ultrasound and breast elastography imaging. The database consisted of 31 malignant and 52 benign lesions and an additional data set containing 206 lesions (144 benign and 62 malignant) seen only on the B-mode ultrasound for performing the machine learning tests. Three radiologists drew manually the contour of the lesions in B-mode ultrasound and we used an automatic technique to segment the lesions. Then, the contour was mapped in the elastography image. The lesions were classified using the CADx system developed for B-mode ultrasound and strain elastography. We calculated the sensitivity, specificity and AUC to evaluate the data. The developed CADx system provided a diagnostic concordance in the classification of breast lesions from the different ways of contour determination (manual and automatic), allowing to reduce the diagnostic variability. In addition, the CADx system showed superior results to the visual analysis of the radiologist. When the radiologist associated both examinations (B-mode ultrasound and elastography), his visual analysis provided 87.10%, 55.77% and 0.714 of sensitivity, specificity and AUC, respectively. When we considered the result provided by the association between B-mode ultrasound and elastography images, the CADx system provided a comparative increase of about 7% of sensitivity and 17.2% of specificity, using the contour delimited by the most experienced radiologist. In addition, a positive influence was observed in the use of the computational tool by radiologists, since, on average, their sensitivity and specificity indexes also increased in relation to the conventional analysis, from 87.1% and 55.8% to 90.3% and 73.1%, respectively.

Xu, Yadong. "Feature competition in Algonquian agreement". 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/1993/31695.

Texto completo
Resumen
This thesis investigates the patterning of the Algonquian “central agreement”, i.e. the primary person-number agreement marking, from a diachronic and comparative perspective. The central agreement patterns differ in the two orders: in the conjunct it is fusional and often portmanteau while in the independent it is discontinuous and non-portmanteau. In addition to these differences, there are also some commonalities, such as a pattern in which 1p consistently outranks 2p in both orders. This thesis shows that the differences between the two orders can be taken to reflect variation in the features of the syntactic probe and different morphological spell-out rules, while the shared properties follow from the underlying structure of φ-features. In particular, it is proposed that an additional person feature under the [plural] node causes first person plural to be privileged over second person plural in the competition among vocabulary items in post-syntactic spellout.

Resumen
This monograph discusses the interaction of person features, case-marking, and agreement across languages, and models the variation using parameters and parameter hierarchies. In both inverse agreement and global case splits, the subject and the object determine the form of the verb or case-marking on its arguments together. After proposing a detailed, novel analysis of differential object marking in Hungarian, it is shown that similar agreement alternations and case splits in other languages can be analysed in a uniform way since they both rely on person. Languages differ in the way they grammaticalize person, however, explaining why in some languages definiteness determines agreement and case-marking, while in others animacy does. In this book, both types are analysed as interactions of hierarchically organized person features and the verb. The approach to person features adopted here captures effects of so-called person or animacy hierarchies in syntax by treating different persons as sets of features with different cardinalities, ordered by subset/superset relations. The author relates this analysis to the interaction of Case and agreement, implements existing generalizations about the alignment of case and agreement and discusses a new one: the analysis predicts exactly the attested types of case and agreement alignment in ditransitive constructions, and rules out an unattested one. The book presents data from eight different language families.

Resumen
The Bantu languages are in some sense remarkably uniform (subject, verb, order (SVO) basic word order, noun classes, verbal morphology), but this extensive language family also show a wealth of morphosyntactic variation. Two core areas in which such variation is attested are subject and object agreement. The book explores the variation in Bantu subject and object marking on the basis of data from 75 Bantu languages, discovering striking patterns (the Relation between Asymmetry and Non-Doubling Object Marking (RANDOM), and the Asymmetry Wants Single Object Marking (AWSOM) correlation), and providing a novel syntactic analysis. This analysis takes into account not just phi agreement, but also nominal licensing and information structure. A Person feature, associated with animacy, definiteness, or givenness, is shown to be responsible for differential object agreement, while at the same time accounting for doubling vs. non-doubling object marking—a hybrid solution to an age-old debate in Bantu comparative morphosyntax. It is furthermore proposed that low functional heads can Case-license flexibly downwards or upwards, depending on the relative topicality of the two arguments involved. This accounts for the properties of symmetric object marking in ditransitives (for Appl), and subject inversion constructions (for v). By keeping Agree constant and systematically determining which featural parameters are responsible for the attested variation, the proposed analysis argues for an emergentist view of features and parameters (following Biberauer 2018, 2019), and against both Strong Uniformity and Strong Modularity.

Resumen
A number of modern Germanic vernaculars (non-standard languages and dialects) allow first and second person null subjects (NSs), but not third person. In this chapter, the person asymmetry, and the relation between these NSs and agreement on finite verbs (and subordinators) are discussed. It is argued that it is not necessary to assume a specific Speech Act-feature in order to explain why third person NSs are disallowed. The crucial factor is instead assumed to be Distinct Agreement, i.e. the agreeing element must (uniquely) express the same φ‎-features and values for these features as the corresponding overt pronoun in order to allow an NS, including not only number and person, but also—crucially—gender.

Resumen
This chapter illustrates some of the data to be discussed in the book and introduces the grammatical notions and specific theoretical assumptions made. It provides examples of differential object marking in Hungarian and Hindi and argues for a dissociation of Case and agreement. Since in both Hungarian and Hindi, case-marking and agreement are not governed by the same grammatical principles and do not always appear together, they should not be analysed as reflecting a single grammatical operation. There is also discussion of the notion of person and the idea that it can grammaticalize properties such as definiteness or animacy in different languages. Person is treated as a complex category where each ‘person’ consists of a set of person features; these sets are ordered by subset/superset relations.

Resumen
AbstractThe overlaying of two map layers is a standard GIS procedure. As we saw in the previous chapter, it enables us to compute the intersection between two feature classes and cross-tabulate either the area or the pixel count of the intersecting features depending on whether raster or vector data are being used. Cross-tabulation can be used to evaluate different topics depending on the nature of the input data. In this chapter, cross-tabulation is used to assess land cover changes, the spatial agreement between maps and map accuracy. In Sect. 1, Land use/cover changes (LUCC) are quantified by comparing two LUC maps, computing different indices of change and creating a change matrix. In Sect. 2, we used various metrics to evaluate the spatial agreement between two maps. This procedure was applied to compare a LUC map with a reference map, a simulated LUC map with a reference map and a simulated LUCC map with a reference map of changes. Section 3 introduces the Kappa indices, which allow us to assess the agreement between two datasets, given the agreement expected by random coincidence. We used the indices to compare observed or simulated maps with a reference map. In Sect. 4 we evaluate the agreement between maps at a global level (the entire map) by focusing on a specific feature such as a smaller area or a particular category (stratum level). Finally, in Sect. 5, the cross-tabulation between a map and reference sample data is used to assess the thematic accuracy of the map by calculating various different accuracy indices. We present examples of analyses based on cross-tabulation for four different cases: To validate a series of maps with two or more time points, to validate a map against a reference map, to validate a simulation against a reference map and to validate simulated changes against a reference map of changes. In the example exercises, we use CORINE and SIOSE maps from the Asturias Central Area and Ariège Valley datasets and maps of the Marqués de Comillas region of south-eastern Mexico (MarquesLUC dataset). The cross-tabulation techniques proposed by Robert Gilmore Pontius Jr. are applied in Chapter “Pontius Jr. Methods Based on a Cross-Tabulation Matrix to Validate Land Use Cover Maps”.

Resumen
AbstractThe growing masses of digital traces generated by the datafication process make the algorithms that manage them increasingly central to contemporary society. There is widespread agreement in considering traces and algorithms as complex objects that intertwine social and material practices with their own cultural, historical, and institutional nature (Halford et al., 2010).Accordingly, given this strong intertwining between the social world and the digital world that is formed by material and technological objects, it becomes possible to consider the algorithms and traces as socio-digital objects. For this reason, this article aims to identify the features that allow us to frame them as socio-digital objects starting from concepts borrowed from the actor-network theory (Latour and Woolgar 1879). In particular, we will first discuss opacity, authority and autonomy concepts and then see how those features emerge in digital geographical traces.

Resumen
AbstractStudent surveys are increasingly being used to collect information about important aspects of learning environments. Research shows that aggregate indicators from these surveys (e.g., school or classroom averages) are reliable and correlate with important climate indicators and with student outcomes. However, we know less about whether within-classroom or within-school variation in student survey responses may contain additional information about the learning environment beyond that conveyed by average indicators. This question is important in light of mounting evidence that the educational experiences of different students and student groups can vary, even within the same school or classroom, in terms of opportunities for participation, teacher expectations, or the quantity and quality of teacher–student interactions, among others. In this chapter, we offer an overview of literature from different fields examining consensus for constructing average indicators, and consider it alongside the key assumptions and consequences of measurement models and analytic methods commonly used to summarize student survey reports of instruction and learning environments. We also consider recent empirical evidence that variation in student survey responses within classrooms can reflect systematically different experiences related to features of the school or classroom, instructional practices, student background, or a combination of these, and that these differences can predict variation in important academic and social-emotional outcomes. In the final section, we discuss the implications for evaluation, policy, equity, and instructional improvement.

Resumen
The National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA) established the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), which requires federal agencies to address their cultural resources, defined as any prehistoric or historic district, site, building, structure, or object. NHPA Section 110 requires federal agencies to inventory and evaluate their cultural resources. Section 106 requires them to determine the effect of federal undertakings on properties deemed eligible or potentially eligible for the NRHP. Camp Perry Joint Training Center (Camp Perry) is located near Port Clinton, Ohio, and serves as an Ohio Army National Guard (OHARNG) training site. It served as an induction center during federal draft periods and as a prisoner of war camp during World War II. Previous work established boundaries for a historic district and recommended the district eligible for the NRHP. This project inventoried and analyzed the character-defining features of the seven contributing buildings and one grouping of objects (brick lamp posts) at Camp Perry. The analysis is to aid future Section 106 processes and/or the development of a programmatic agreement in consultation with the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

Texto completo
Resumen
The purpose of this study is to present a factual picture of the multiple groundwater governance frameworks that cover the same transboundary aquifers on the Texas-Mexico border. The study can then serve as a foundation to support future research and as a reference for those sharing groundwater resources on the border to use in considering whether and how to coordinate management. Currently, Texas A&M School of Law, the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, and the Texas Water Resources Institute are collaboratively pursuing a larger interdisciplinary project, and the study presented in this report is part of that concerted endeavor. First, the project establishes a study area, then identifies who are the stakeholders in the area, and finally summarizes the various rules each entity applies to groundwater. The study area selected is based on the aquifers identified in the 2016 study noted above (see Figure 1). Although there is currently no formal agreement between governments or users in Mexico and Texas for managing the reservoirs that cross underneath the international border, this survey represents a preliminary step in addressing the larger problems that the absence of a cooperative groundwater management framework presents. All of the institutional approaches employed in the various jurisdictions surveyed here model features from which developing management approaches could draw. Equally, noting gaps in the institutional approaches themselves and the ad hoc groundwater withdrawals occurring outside the reach of those institutions illustrates potential value in engaging local users in Texas’ and Mexico’s respective groundwater governance arrangements.

Resumen
Description logics are knowledge representation and reasoning formalisms which represent conceptual knowledge on an abstract logical level. Concrete domains are a theoretically well-founded approach to the integration of description logic reasoning with reasoning about concrete objects such as numbers, time intervals or spatial regions. In this paper, the complexity of combined reasoning with description logcis and on concrete domains is investigated. We extend ALC(D), which is the basic description logic for reasoning with concrete domains, by the operators 'feature agreement' and 'feature disagreement'. For the extended logic, called ALCF(D), an algorithm for deciding the ABox consistency problem is devised. The strategy employed by this algorithm is vital for the efficient implementation of reasoners for description logics incorporating concrete domains. Based on the algorithm, it is proved that the standard reasoning problems for both logics ALC(D) and ALCF(D) are PSpace-complete - provided that the satisfiability test of the concrete domain used is in PSpace.

Albury-Wodonga, situated in Wiradjuri country, sits astride the Murray River and has benefitted in many ways from its almost equidistance from Sydney and Melbourne. It has found strength in the earlier push for decentralisation begun in early 1970s. A number of State and Federal agencies have ensured middle class professionals now call this region home. Light industry is a feature of Wodonga while Albury maintains the traditions and culture of its former life as part of the agricultural squattocracy. Both Local Councils are keen to work cooperatively to ensure the region is an attractive place to live signing an historical partnership agreement. The region’s road, rail, increasing air links and now digital infrastructure, keep it closely connected to events elsewhere. At the same time its distance from the metropolitan centres has meant it has had to ensure that its creative and cultural life has been taken into its own hands. The establishment of the sophisticated Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) as well as the presence of the LibraryMuseum, Hothouse Theatre, Fruit Fly Circus, The Cube, Arts Space and the development of Gateway Island on the Murray River as a cultural hub, as well as the high profile activities of its energetic, entrepreneurial and internationally savvy locals running many small businesses, events and festivals, ensures Albury Wodonga has a creative heart to add to its rural and regional activities.

A MODEL FOR PREDICTING MOMENT-CURVATURE BEHAVIOR OF SELF-STRESSING SSACFST COLUMNS UNDER LOW CYCLIC LOADING. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, diciembre de 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2022.18.4.1.

Texto completo
Resumen
This paper reports the experimental investigation and theoretical model of self-stressing steel slag aggregate concrete-filled steel tubular (SSACFST) columns under low cyclic loading. Fourteen specimens including ten self-stressing SSACFST columns and four ordinary SSACFST columns (reference columns) are tested, and the effects of four experimental variables, such as axial compression ratio (n), diameter-thickness ratio (D/ts), shear-span ratio ( ), and expansion rate (Pct ) of steel slag aggregate concrete (SSAC) on failure mode, moment-curvature hysteretic curves and skeleton curves are examined. Experimental results demonstrate that the failure mode of columns with high shear-span ratio is bending failure while the bending-shear failure dominates the damage of columns with low shear-span ratio. With the enhancement of axial compression ratio or expansion rate of SSAC, the peak moment of specimens increases. The increase of shear-span ratio or diameter-thickness ratio decreases the peak moment of specimens. The peak curvature of specimens decreases as axial compression ratio increases, while it increases as shear-span ratio increases. The impacts of diameter-thickness ratio and expansion rate of SSAC on peak curvature of specimens are marginal. A simplified calculation method of moment-curvature skeleton curves is suggested and the hysteresis rules of self-stressing SSACFST columns are also proposed by analyzing the features of hysteretic curves. Ultimately, a model for evaluating moment-curvature behavior of self-stressing SSACFST columns under low cyclic loading is established and validated the experimental results with good agreement.
