Resumen

This study focuses on how knowledge is mobilized in agile information systems (IS) projects. One crucial success factor of those projects is to mobilize knowledge through different knowledge management processes. It is vital to establish efficient knowledge management (KM) processes to generate a knowledge culture based on transparency and communication. Communication channels, digital tools, and platforms are essential for establishing a KM infrastructure supporting the knowledge work of the project organization. Thus, each IS implementation team should maintain a knowledge base and a knowledge potential at some level. However, this is not always the case. We conducted a literature review to survey the extant research on the role of KM in agile system development projects. The agile approach is often associated with the networking model and tacit knowledge. The findings indicate that the agile approach is supposed to promote KM. While tacit knowledge is rooted in the analogue process of continuous actions and informal communication, explicit knowledge is captured in digital records of documentation and databases. In KM, the personalization model (behavioural, networking) and the codification (technocratic, repository) model is central. The choice of system development method (agile versus plan-driven) influences how knowledge is mobilized in the project organization. An agile approach heavily relies on informal communication, tacit knowledge sharing, and light documentation. In contrast, the plan-driven methods such as the waterfall approach generate more explicit knowledge through documentation. Communities of practice are important structures for transforming from plan-driven to agile approaches. We present a framework showing specific challenges the literature identifies concerning the efficient mobilization of knowledge in the agile context. For large-scale agile projects, informal coordination mechanisms were important. This study identifies several measures for overcoming barriers and risks for knowledge sharing in the agile context.

Resumen

With the advent of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies, the networking infrastructures are becoming increasingly agile in their attempts to offer the quality of services needed by the users, maximizing the efficiency of infrastructure utilization. This in essence mandates the statistical multiplexing of demands across the infrastructures of different Network Providers (NPs), which would allow them to cope with the increasing demand, upgrading their infrastructures at a slower pace. However, to enjoy the benefits of statistical multiplexing, a trusted authority to govern it would be required. At the same time, blockchain technology aspires to offer a solid advantage in such untrusted environments, enabling the development of decentralized solutions that ensure the integrity and immutability of the information stored in the digital ledger. To this end, in this paper, we propose a blockchain-based solution that allows NPs to trade their (processing and networking) resources. We implemented the solution in a test-bed deployed on the cloud and we present the gathered performance results, showing that a blockchain-based solution is feasible and appropriate. We also discuss further improvements and challenges.

Resumen

The recent rapid advancement of cloud-native networking infrastructure has leveraged the resource virtualization technology of containers to realize diverse microservice-based applications in 5G/6G networks and clouds. Containers drastically enhance the efficiency of computational resource allocation and utilization as compared to the related virtualization technology of Virtual Machines (VMs). The networking environment leveraging both VM and container mixed virtualization technologies makes the most use of them to realize a computational platform whose resources can be dynamically adjusted to a fine granularity. To continuously meet the required levels of quality of services in 5G/6G networks and clouds in that platform, an agile and autonomous data analytics system in the control plane is essential for the accurate prediction of server workloads and dynamic allocation of enough amount of computational resource. In this paper, we introduce a framework, which complies with Recommendation ITU-T Y.3177, for autonomous computational resource control and management. The framework consists of an advanced data analytics system and a resource control system. We propose an architecture for the advanced data analytics system consisting of learning and prediction components. The learning component includes a three-stage intelligent model pipelining with three cascaded machine learning models, nonlinear regression, clustering, and multiple regression. These models determine the fluctuation trends in CPU utilization, classify services with similarities in the trends, and predict the peak CPU utilization of each containerized microservice. We evaluate the proposed models through experiments and numerical analysis. The results prove that the models support agile data analytics, which can complete data processing in the time granularity of seconds and achieve higher prediction accuracy of CPU utilization.

Resumen

The energy storage or management system is becoming more important as electrical energy demand globally grows. In the first step of the energy management plan, energy forecasting is an essential element. Software-defined network (SDN) seeks to change network architecture and processes to be agile and effectively enhance the functionality of fundamental system components such as switches and routers. Predicting electric energy is crucial to support demand-side management in the building business. The total power load of the individual building services systems management is becoming a challenging process to be predicted for buildings with electricity metering systems. Conventional model energy prediction focuses on predictive accuracy, and energy consumption must be predicted according to different conditions to build an efficient system. Novel deep learning-based smart energy metering prediction (DL-SEMP) technique is considered to overthrow such accuracy lack in prediction. Blockchain-based SDN has emerged a new architect for obtaining a distributed network in blockchain technology.

The promising advancements in the telecommunications and automotive sectors over the years have empowered drivers with highly innovative communication and sensing capabilities, in turn paving the way for the next-generation connected and autonomous vehicles. Today, vehicles communicate wirelessly with other vehicles and vulnerable pedestrians in their immediate vicinity to share timely safety-critical information primarily for collision mitigation. Furthermore, vehicles connect with the traffic management entities via their supporting network infrastructure to become more aware of any potential hazards on the roads and for guidance pertinent to their current and anticipated speeds and travelling course to ensure more efficient traffic flows. Therefore, a secure and low-latency communication is highly indispensable in order to meet the stringent performance requirements of such safety-critical vehicular applications. However, the heterogeneity of diverse radio access technologies and inflexibility in their deployment results in network fragmentation and inefficient resource utilization, and these, therefore, act as bottlenecks in realizing the aims for a highly efficient vehicular networking architecture. In order to overcome such sorts of bottlenecks, this article brings forth the current state-of-the-art in the context of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and subsequently proposes a software-defined heterogeneous vehicular networking (SDHVNet) architecture for ensuring a highly agile networking infrastructure to ensure rapid network innovation on-demand. Finally, a number of potential architectural challenges and their probable solutions are discussed.

During contemporary political disruptions, this study comprehensively examines transformative dynamics in public administration in Indonesia. We delve into the complex interplay of agile governance, a responsive and adaptive governance model navigating political uncertainties, and the transformative forces of digital transformation, orchestrating a symphony of technological advancements reshaping the very fabric of governance. Furthermore, the study investigates inclusive decision-making, elucidating the collaborative engagement between citizens and policymakers in shaping governance strategies. The research then centers on the culmination of these dynamics, emphasizing citizen satisfaction as a pivotal metric for assessing the success of governance initiatives. Operating as a moderator, political stability guides the overall effectiveness of governance practices. Following a stratified sampling technique, data were collected from 490 followers of Indonesian public sector social networking sites from July 2023 to November 2023. The findings reveal that agile governance, digital transformation, and inclusive decision-making positively contribute to citizen satisfaction with public services, with political stability moderating these relationships, providing empirical insights into the dynamics of contemporary public administration. The scholarly significance lies in providing empirical insights into the specific context of Indonesia, contributing to the broader discourse on effective governance strategies in the face of political disruptions.

Cette thèse contribue au domaine émergent des réseaux sans-fil agiles utilisant plusieurs couches physiques. Traditionnellement, les réseaux sans-fil industriels n'emploient qu'une seule interface radio, à l'instar des implémentations de la pile protocolaire réseau IETF 6TiSCH qui s'appuient sur la radio IEEE 802.15.4 O-QPSK opérant dans la bande de fréquence à 2,4 GHz. Des progrès dans l'intégration de plusieurs schémas de modulation/codage au sein d'un même circuit radio et capable d'opérer dans différentes bandes de fréquence permettent aujourd'hui l'exploitation au sein d'un même réseau d'une diversité de configurations radios. Nous utilisons le terme "PHY'' pour désigner toute combinaison de : modulation, bande de fréquence et schéma de codage. Dans cette recherche, nous soutenons que la combinaison de PHY longue portée et courte portée peut offrir des performances de bout en bout de réseau équilibrées qu'aucun PHY unique n'atteint. Nous démontrons comment un ensemble de PHY courte et longue portée peut être intégré sous une architecture 6TiSCH généralisée ("g6TiSCH'') et nous évaluons expérimentalement ses performances dans un banc d'essai de 36 nœuds à Inria-Paris. De plus, nous montrons, expérimentalement, comment un slotframe TSCH peut adapter la durée du slot, slot par slot, en fonction du débit du PHY utilisé ("6DYN''). Enfin, nous concevons et évaluons, par simulation, une fonction d'objectif pour RPL qui optimise la durée de vie du réseau ("Life-OF''). Nous démontrons comment Life-OF combine divers PHYs pour augmenter la durée de vie du réseau de jusqu'à 470% par rapport à la fonction d'objectif MRHOF du staandard IETF actuel This thesis contributes to the emerging field of agile multi-PHY wireless networking. Industrial wireless networks have relied on a single physical layer for their operation. One example is the standardized IETF 6TiSCH protocol stack for industrial wireless networking, which uses IEEE~802.15.4 O-QPSK radio in the 2.4~GHz band as its physical layer. Advances in radio chip manufacturing have resulted in chips that support a diverse set of long range and short range PHYs. We use the term "PHY'' to refer to any combination of: modulation, frequency band, and coding scheme. In this research, we argue that combining long-range and short-range PHYs can offer balanced network end-to-end performance that no single PHY achieves. We demonstrate how a set of short-range and long-range PHYs can be integrated under one generalized 6TiSCH ("g6TiSCH'') architecture and we evaluate its performance experimentally in a testbed of 36~motes at Inria-Paris. We further demonstrate, experimentally, how a TSCH slotframe can adapt the slot duration on a slot-by-slot basis, as a function of the bitrate of the used PHY ("6DYN''). Finally, we design and evaluate, through simulation, an objective function for RPL that optimizes for network lifetime ("Life-OF''). We demonstrate how Life-OF combines diverse PHYs to boost network lifetime to be up to 470% compared to the IETF standard MRHOF

The exponentially increasing traffic demand for mobile services requires innovative solutions in both access and backhaul segments of 5th generation (5G) mobile networks. Although, heterogeneous networks (HetNets) are a promising solution for the wireless access, the backhaul segment has received considerably less attention and falls short in meeting the stringent requirements of 5G in terms of capacity and availability. HetNets together with mobility requirements motivate the use of microwave backhauling that supports fiber-like capacity with millimeter-wave communications. However, higher carrier frequencies are subject to weather disturbances like rain that may substantially degrade the network throughput. To mitigate this effect, we develop a fast and accurate rain detection algorithm that triggers a network-layer strategy, i.e., rerouting. The results show that with small detection error the network throughput increases while posing small overhead on the network. The rain impact can be alleviated by centralized rerouting under the software defined networking paradigm. However, careless reconfiguration may impose inconsistency that leads to a significant temporary congestion and limits the gain of rerouting. We propose a consistency-aware rerouting framework by considering the cost of reconfiguration. At each time, the centralized controller may either take a rerouting or no-rerouting decision in order to minimize the total data loss. We use a predictive control algorithm to provide such an online sequence of decisions. Compared to the regular rerouting, our proposed approach reduces the throughput loss and substantially decreases the number of reconfigurations. In the thesis we also study which backhaul option is the best from a techno-economic perspective. We develop a comprehensive framework to calculate the total cost of ownership of the backhaul segment and analyze the profitability in terms of cash flow and net present value. The results highlight the importance of selecting proper backhaul solution to increase profitability. QC 20170308

Resumen

L'Internet des objets (IoT) a pour objectif de fournir une connectivité à des millions d'appareils utilisés au quotidien. Pour la majorité des applications, les connexions filaires sont peu pratiques et trop coûteuses. Par conséquent, les connexions sans fil sont le seul moyen réalisable de fournir une connectivité aux dispositifs. Une des nombreuses solutions sans fil est la norme IEEE802.15.4, conçue pour les réseaux maillés de faible consommation. Cette norme est largement utilisée pour les bâtiments intelligents, la domotique et les applications industrielles. Un amendement ultérieur, IEEE802.15.4g, définit 3 PHY (FSK, OFDM et O-QPSK). Cela cible les applications SUN (Smart Utility Networks), c’est-à-dire le comptage intelligent, tout en offrant une couverture étendue. Dans cette thèse, nous analysons l'utilisation de cette norme en dehors de l'environnement SUN et sur des applications industrielles. Premièrement, nous menons une série d’expériences avec IEEE802.15.4g-dispositifs afin de mesurer la portée des liens dans des scénarios extérieurs réels. Les résultats montrent que des communications très fiables avec des débits jusqu'à 800 kbps (avec OFDM) peuvent être atteintes en milieu urbain à 540 m entre les nœuds, et que la liaison radio la plus longue utile est obtenue à 779 m (FSK). Deuxièmement, nous comparons les performances de la norme IEEE802.15.4 à celle de la norme IEEE802.15.4g OFDM dans les bâtiments intelligents. A partir d'expériences, nous avons déterminé que l'OFDM IEEE802.15.4g surpasse l'IEEE802.15.4 et doit être considéré comme une solution pour les déploiements ultérieurs. Enfin, nous introduisons le concept du réseau agile: des nœuds pouvant modifier dynamiquement leur PHY en fonction de leurs besoins et de leur situation The Internet of Things (IoT) aims to provide connectivity to millions of devices used in our day-to-day life. For the vast majority of applications, wired connections are unpractical and too expensive, therefore wireless connections is the only feasible way to provide connectivity to the devices. One of many wireless solutions is the standard IEEE802.15.4, specially designed for low power mesh networks. This standard is widely used for Smart Building, Home Automation and Industrial Applications.A subsequent amendment, the IEEE802.15.4g, defines 3 PHYs (FSK, OFDM and O-QPSK). This targets Smart Utility Networks(SUN) applications, i.e., Smart Metering, while providing extended coverage. In this thesis, we analyse the use of this standard outside the SUN environment and onto Industrial Networking applications.First, we conduct a series of experiments using IEEE802.15.4g compliant devices in order to measure the range coverage on radio links in real use case outdoor scenarios. Results show that highly reliable communications with data rates up to 800 kbps (with OFDM) can be achieved in urban environments at 540 m between nodes, and the longest useful radio link is obtained at 779 m (FSK). Sencond, regarding the robustness and high data rate of OFDM, we compare the performance of the IEEE802.15.4 with the IEEE802.15.4g OFDM in Smart Building scenarios. From experiments, we determine that IEEE802.15.4g OFDM outperforms IEEE802.15.4 and should be considered as a solution for further deployments in combination with a TSCH MAC approach. Finally, we introduce the concept of Network Agility: nodes that can dynamically change their PHY according to their needs and circumstances

Resumen

AbstractHackathons are events in which diverse teams work together to explore and develop solutions, software, or even ideas. Hackathons have been recognized not only as public events for hacking but also as a corporate mechanism for innovation. Hackathons are a way for established large-scale agile organizations to achieve increased employee wellbeing as well as being a curator for innovation and developing new products. The sudden transition to the work-from-home mode caused by the COVID-19 pandemic first put many corporate events requiring collocation, such as hackathons, temporarily on hold and then motivated companies to find ways to hold these events virtually. In this paper, we report our findings from investigating hackathons in the context of a large agile company by first exploring the general benefits and challenges of hackathons and then trying to understand how they were affected by the virtual setup. We conducted nine interviews, surveyed 23 employees, and analyzed a hackathon demo. We found that hackathons provide both individual and organizational benefits of innovation, personal interests, and acquiring new skills and competencies. However, several challenges such as added stress due to stopping the regular work, employees fearing not having enough contribution to deliver, and potential mismatch between individual and organizational goals were also found. With respect to the virtual setup, we found that virtual hackathons are not diminishing the innovation benefits. However, some negative effects surfaced on the social and networking side.

Resumen

AbstractThe number of software startups in Namibia has increased over the last decade, although most of them do not survive for long in the industry. For software startups to thrive, a suitable ecosystem is required to support them as the sustainability of startups is determined by the actions and interactions of the ecosystem actors. We aimed to gain a better understanding of the current software startup ecosystem in Namibia, emphasizing how the startup is connected to and supported by other actors in the ecosystem. Understanding the ecosystem will assist in informing future support needed by software startups to increase their sustainability and the growth of the ecosystem. An online questionnaire was employed to collect data from participants from software startups, as well as institutions that support software startups and entrepreneurs in Namibia. The results show that the Namibian software startup ecosystem is still in its early development stages and offers limited assistance for startups to grow. Access to finance is a challenge for startups, as most of the startups are founded and supported by personal funds, and few are funded by investors and Venture Capital funds and receive little to no financial support from the government. The universities play a role in supporting software startups through software development and entrepreneurial education, and training. Incubators and accelerators, although not a lot in the ecosystem, offer software entrepreneurs mentorship and a supportive environment to grow their businesses. The startups require more funding, access to resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities from other ecosystem actors.
