Texto completoEmbodied Conversational Agents are virtual characters which main purpose is to interact with a human user. They are used in various domains such as personal assistance, social training or video games for instance. In order to improve their capabilities, it is possible to give them the ability to produce human-like behaviors. The users, even if they are aware that they interact with a machine, are still capable of analyzing and identifying social behaviors through the signals produced by these virtual characters. The research in Embodied Conversational Agents has focused for a long time on the reproduction and recognition of emotions by virtual characters and now the focus is on the ability to express different social attitudes. These attitudes show a behavioral style and are expressed through different modalities of the body, like the facial expressions, the gestures or the gazes for instance. We proposed a model that allows an agent to produce different nonverbal behaviors expressing different social attitudes in a conversation. The whole set of behaviors produced by our model allows a goup of agents animated by it to simulate a conversation, without any verbal content. Two evaluations of the model were conducted, one on the Internet and one in a Virtual Reality environment, to verify that the attitudes produced are well recognized

Texto completoSocial interaction implies exchange between two or more persons, where they adapt their behaviors to each others. With the growing interest in human-agent interactions, it is desirable to make these interactions natural and human like. In this context, we aimed at enhancing the quality of the interaction between users and Embodied Conversational Agents ECAs by (1) endowing the ECA with the capacity to express social attitudes, such as being friendly or dominant depending its role or relationship with its interaction partners; (2) adapting the agent's behavior according to the user's behavior, hence, the conversation partners influence each others through an interaction loop, thus, enhancing the interaction quality; (3) predicting the user's engagement level and adapting the agent's behavior accordingly. We take advantage of the recent advances in machine learning, more specifically, temporal sequence mining and neural networks to model these capacities in the ECA. The first model is used to learn relevant patterns (sequences) of non-verbal signals that best represent attitude variations, and then reproduce them on the agent. The latter is used to encompass the dynamics of non-verbal signals. Two use cases have been explored using the well-known LSTM model: agent's behavior adaptation based on both agent's and user's behavior history, and user's engagement prediction based on his/her own behavior history. The implemented models and algorithms have been validated through a number of perceptive studies as well as through rigorous quantitative analysis of the obtained results. In addition, the realized models have been integrated into a virtual-agent platform

Texto completoWe study in this thesis the problem of social attitude formation and dynamics using multi agent simulation. The concept of attitude could be defined as a global evaluation of a social object, based on cognitive or affective information. Our works belongs to the field of social simulation which aims to reproduce in a virtual environment complex social phenomenon at a macroscopic level based on microscopic representations of individuals and their interactions. While existing approaches in this field rarely consider the results of studies in human sciences on the topic of attitude, we propose to follow a psychomimtic approach by micro-founding the cognitive model of our agents on human and social sciences' theories on individual's perception, inter-personal and media communication, belief revision, affective responses and the sentiment of unexpectedness. This model aims to reproduce at a microscopic level attitude dynamics toward actors who perpetuate actions witnessed by the individuals. We have proceeded to a functional analysis of the model's various components based on abstracts scenarios in order to study the capabilities of our model, and more precisely the describable phenomenon such as information diffusion, resistance to disinformation or the conformity process. The model has been applied in the context of French military operations of stabilisation in Afghanistan. The goal of this experience consists in reproducing opinion polls results of the locals toward the present Forces, collected during the intervention, based on a military scenario which has been recreated in partnership with officers who were in charge of operations between 2011 and 2012. Simulation results that follow a model calibration process show an error below 3 points of disparity compared to the real data. Finally, we propose a microscopic analysis of the results by applying automatic classification techniques on the simulated individuals in order to explain the multiple attitudes tendencies in the population

Texto completoTo be perceived as believable partners in human-machine interactions, virtual agents have to express adequate social attitudes. The social attitude expressed by an agent should reflect the social situation of the interaction. The agent ought to take into account its role and its social relation toward its interactants when deciding how to react in the interaction. To build such an agent able to reason about its role and relation and to adapt its social attitude, we built a model of social decision making. First, we formalized the dynamics of the social relation through a combination of goals and beliefs. Then, we designed a decision making model based on the social goals and the situational goals of the agent. Finally, we conducted an empirical study in the context of virtual tutor-child interaction where participants evaluated the tutor’s perceived social attitude towards the child while the tutor’s social role and relation were manipulated by our model. Results showed that both role and social relation have an influence on the agent’s perceived social attitude

Texto completoWe study in this thesis the subjective formation of job satisfaction and the impact of organization on employees satisfaction. First, we work on the modeling of psychological process of job satisfaction, defined as an attitude at work. Then, we propose a model to study the impact of work organization on work activity. Our research aims to study job satisfaction using an innovative methodological and theoretical approach in the domain of social simulation: based on major theories in the fields of organizational psychology and economy of well-being, our goal is to produce an agent-based model of the cognitive aspects of job satisfaction. Our purpose is to provide a theoretically as well as empirically grounded model of job satisfaction that fosters the understanding of organizational impact on employees' satisfaction. To do so, we tested our model on an ideal scenario of work conditions improvement policy. The results revealed that this policy do not systematically causes a global improvement on job satisfaction: agent's cognitive profil, that is a typical way to evaluate job satisfaction, have a great impact on policy outcomes. Next, we tested our model using a scenario based on a panel survey of work conditions conducted in a big french organization during 2013/14. We were able to reproduce declared individual levels of job satisfaction. Furthemore, in order to provide a more realistic representation of work improvement policy, we have also developed a work activity model. Firstly, we analyzed the impact of various work organizations on organizational performance, then we conducted an analysis of the impact of work activity on the formation of burnout episodes. This last study helped us to bring up the importance of work activity and organization on employees' well-being; the aim being eventually to propose a coupled model of work activity and job satisfaction

Texto completoanakkale. Phase 1 took place during the Ministry of National Education in-service teacher training seminar, Phase 2 was after six months of the seminar. Sample in the first phase was v made up of 19 course participants, in the second phase the sample contained both 19 course participants and their 38 peers and 10 principals. Findings revealed that some teachers who work in a more democratic school environment were enabled with their change agentry roles as their principals created a flexible institutional culture. However, teachers who work in more rigid and centralized work environment were not given the freedom for applying the ideas that they were encouraged through in-service teacher training. This shows that on the one hand even one shot in-service teacher education contributes to teacher development in building change agents by raising teacher awareness on her subject knowledge and role but on the other hand to practice leadership and change agent role very much depends on the school culture.

Texto completoThe spread of information technologies (IT) and the growth of the electronic commerce modified the way in which the companies function, forcing them to adopt flexible structures and to produce more efficiently. This research is interested in the part played by new technologies in the setting-up of recommendation systems and information search systems which tend on many markets to control the commercial trades. More precisely, our main objective is to contribute to a better understanding of the recommendation systems by comparing physical economy and electronic commerce. This thesis can contribute to the comprehension of the changes generated in this field by the use of the electronic commerce and to the development of “intelligent” substitutes to the processes currently used. By doing this, we contribute to the emergence of a new face of electronic commerce on Internet by identifying a series of psychological and economic variables which play an important part in the manner in which the economic agents, in particular the companies, act and react. Our main objectives throughout this thesis are to answer to the following questions: Which is the part played by the recommendation systems in the formation of preferences and which is the efficiency of this type of systems? Do the specific characteristics of Internet as an economic environment modify the answers to the previous question? Are the competitiveness factors of the companies on the “new economy” different from those of the traditional economy? Which are the opportunities associated with the electronic commerce, in particular through the “shopbots” which tend to become a “hard” part of the recommender systems?

The central contribution of this dissertation is the proposal of a graded BDI agent model (g-BDI), specifying an architecture capable of representing and reasoning with graded mental attitudes. We consider that making the BDI architecture more exible will allow us to design and develop agents capable of improved performance in uncertain and dynamic environments, serving other agents (human or not) that may have a set of graded motivations.
In the g-BDI model, the agent graded attitudes have an explicit and suitable representation. Belief degrees represent the extent to which the agent believes a formula to be true. Degrees of positive or negative desires allow the agent to set di_erent levels of preference or rejection respectively. Intention degrees also give a preference measure but, in this case, modelling the cost/benefit trade off of achieving an agent's goal. Then, agents having different kinds of behaviour can be modelled on the basis of the representation and interaction of their graded attitudes. The formalization of the g-BDI agent model is based on Multi-context systems and in order to represent and reason about the beliefs, desires and intentions, we followed a many-valued modal approach. Also, a sound and complete axiomatics for representing each graded attitude is proposed. Besides, in order to cope with the operational semantics aspects of the g-BDI agent model, we first defined a Multi-context calculus for Multi-context systems execution and then, using this calculus we give this agent model computational meaning.
Furthermore, a software engineering process to develop graded BDI agents in a multiagent scenario is presented. The aim of the proposed methodology is to guide the design of a multiagent system starting from a real world problem. Through the development of a Tourism recommender system, where one of its principal agents is modelled as a g-BDI agent, we show that the model is useful to design and implement concrete agents.
Finally, using the case study we have made some experiments concerning the exibility and performance of the g-BDI agent model, demonstrating that this agent model is useful to develop agents showing varied and rich behaviours. We also show that the results obtained by these particular recommender agents using graded attitudes improve those achieved by agents using non-graded attitudes.

Texto completoThrough three studies, this thesis aims to explore the cognitive micro-foundations of economics. In a first study, I investigate the role of the information for coordination on a unique medium of exchange, that is to say money emergence. Relying on the search theoretical models (Kiyotaki & Wright, 1989, and Iwai, 1996), the goal of this study is to challenge the assumption that an exhaustive information is a necessary condition for money emergence. In a second study, I tackle the role of the information in duopoly competition. Using a model a-la-Hotelling (1929), we test the hypothesis that varying the amount of information available by consumers substantially impacts market’s dynamics. In a third study, I am interested in decision-making under risk in rhesus monkeys. Based on the prospect theory (Kahneman & Tversky, 1989, 1992), the main purpose is to assess to what extent macaques exhibit an asymmetric treatment of gains and losses similar to that of humans

Texto completoOne of the most powerful tools to explain and predict an agent's behavior is to describe him thanks to his mental states, such as his beliefs or his intentions. In Artificial Intelligence, many researchers have focused on the formalization in modal logic of these individual mental attitudes, in order to use them in artificial agents. Lots of examples, such as: " The government believes that war will begin soon. ", highlight the fact that attitudes, and beliefs in particular, can be ascribed to a group of agents. Besides it is interesting to notice that, even if the government as a whole believes that war will begin soon, some government members can disagree privately. The first aim of this dissertation is to provide a logical framework to represent the concept of group belief and to describe its features and its links with individual mental attitudes. It also appears that group belief in this sense results from a debate between group members. The second aim of this dissertation is thus to highlight the close link existing between group belief, dialog and speech acts

Texto completoThis thesis consists of three essays in consumer economics. In the first essay, we consider the application of the iterated linear least squares estimator, developed by Blundell and Robin (1999), to panel data and propose a direct test for the correlation of unobserved heterogeneity with independent variables. We show that the estimator remains consistent on this type of data, we derive its new asymptotic properties and give an empirical application. In the second essay, we use the conditional demand function approach to test for the separability of the derived utility function in the household production model. To the best of our knowledge, the data set that we use is the only one to allow for this test. Our results partly reject the weak separability hypothesis. However, we also show that these results depend on the level of the time constraint faced by the household. Finally, in the third essay, we estimate a hedonic price function and two jury grade equations for burgundy wine. The approach is the same as in our bordeaux wine paper (Combris, Lecocq and Visser (1997)). The data come from an experimental study that is very similar to the study on Bordeaux wines. The results for the two wine-growing regions are compared and discussed

Gravina, Maria Virginia. "Investigating leadership characteristics and attitudes toward creativity according to agency context for agriculture extension agents in Uruguay". Thesis, Oklahoma State University, 2014. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3614414.
Texto completoThe purpose of this study was to investigate attitudes toward creativity and leadership characteristics according to the agency context for extension agents in Uruguay. Extension agents come from the three different agency contexts in Uruguay of the University, government, and private institutions. Leadership characteristics are those that combine to describe leadership approaches or styles. Attitudes towards creativity concerns the values one holds about using creativity in work situations. The link between these variables is important due to the diverse challenges that agriculture extension agents face in a small country like Uruguay whose economy depends on agriculture. There are three major conclusions based on the findings of this study. First, factor analysis performed in the scales related with leadership did not cluster as Bass and Avolio (2000) suggested. Rather, results show a different combination of the traits (Motivating demanding, Compliant, and Charismatic controller). The second conclusion is that attitudes and values to promote innovation likely expected to be one of the values of the university group were not shown in the results. One possible explanation could be the philosophy of the university, while the government and private institutions showed an attitude that tends to promote creativity and innovation which in their case is aligned with their jobs goals, which has to do with a model of extension that provides regulation and provision of inputs and also emphasize National production goals and productivity. Third there is a difference between working contexts for agricultural extension agents in Uruguay. The results of the study were able to discriminate between the university context and government and the private contexts which showed a similar behavior. Both the government and the private contexts showed a positive approach to creativity and a compliant leadership behavior.

Texto completoIn mathematics education research, less work is documented on theorizing mathematics attitude and its formation process, especially in Pakistani context. Therefore, this study proposed a multi-dimensional concept of mathematics attitude based on two components (mathematics interest & mathematics belief). Further, it was theorized in the model that, the student’s evaluative inclinations about mathematics are the results of his private knowledge, constructed as a consequence of prior beliefs and affective reactions with mathematics, under the influence of psychological and social factors. Total 1499 students (671girls & 821boys) of grade six and nine from ten schools of Pakistan participated in this study. Results indicated that girls possessed significantly more positive “maths need belief”, while boys hold significantly more positive interest in the dimension of “enjoy doing maths”. Regarding parents’ education effect, low level of education caused strong “maths need belief” in students. In the hypothetical model, teacher affect significantly positive the mathematics attitude than parents, mediated through student’s maths self-concept and self-efficacy. Within the components of attitude, causality direction was found better from interest to belief. This research concluded that students’ differences in mathematics attitude are caused by the societal needs and expectations developed by parents and teachers, sometimes accompanied by stereotypic beliefs, which affect a boy and a girl differently. Findings of this study demand a review of already done researches on gender differences in mathematics attitude in the light of dimensional concept, proposed in this research

Texto completoBackground: Coronary heart disease kills more than 7 million people worldwide each year. High levels of blood fat, cholesterol, contributes significantly to coronary heart disease. Lifestyle changes combined with lipid-lowering drugs, statins, is an effective treatment. But adherence to statins is low, not even a myocardial infarction always contributes to adherence. Adherence requires patient education and good communication between patient and physician. There is no deeper knowledge of why coronary heart patients stops with statin treatment. Objective: To describe how coronary heart patients experience the disease and the statin treatment, and furthermore, opportunities and difficulties to adhere with statin therapy. Design: An exploratory qualitative study. Method: 10 male coronary heart patients, 55-78 years were strategically selected from a cardiology clinic in a larger Swedish hospital. Patients were interviewed individually in a semi-structured form, 2009/2010. Data processing was done according to content analysis and yielded four themes: empowerment, effects, decision basis, and trust. Results: The patients did not mentioned heredity among the factors they could not affect in association with the disease. Several patients saw the medication as a limitation, doubted its efficacy, but mostly took it anyway, at least for a limited time. Medication and illness were associated with each other. Information requirements were in most patients. Many patients wanted to discontinue the statin therapy. Conclusion: Retention of power over the own body, good reference base for decision about adherence, and trust in health care. These are crucial components of patients’ adherence to statin therapy, in connection with coronary heart disease.
Patienterna intervjuades personligen i semistrukturerad form, 2009/2010.

Texto completoHarsher and harsher competition in insurance industry increases the importance of the role of insurance salespeople who represents the company, sells services and provides advice to clients. . The research is about role conflicts and coping strategies of insurance salespeople. Coping strategies are used to face these conflicts. They are not allowed according to the company's rules. The research is based on semi-directive interviews with 102 agents and 131 clients. Theses interviews are focused on favourable and unfavourable critical incidents in the service encounter. Content analysis of incidents shows different types of role conflicts linked to contradictory demands of organisations and clients four coping strategies (prevention, exemplary service, negotiation and agreement) are also identified the differences of perceptions between agents and clients are emphasised. To explain the development of coping strategies, a model and some hypothesis are tested with an experimentation. Results shows the importance of professional identity (characterised here by length in service and localisation) and the importance of client : it acts upon the implementation of coping strategies. The practical interest lies in the identification of main difficulties between agents and clients and coping strategies used to face it. At a theoretical level, the use of both disciplines (marketing and human resource management) favours a crossed fertilisation between disciplines and give new insights. At a methodological level, the interest of triangulation (using both qualitative and quantitative methods, comparison client's perceptions with agents' perceptions) is also underlined

Texto completoThe "social problem" posed by social housing neighbourhoods is presently leading social housing landlords, in common with many other institutions, to adopt new approaches to dealing with social issues. This had led to the development of estate-based approaches to the management of housing and an exxpansion of professional competencies. Here we examine the profession of the estate-based housing manager as a means of shedding light on social change at neighbourhood level and as an indicator of the way in which the intervention methods used by social housing organisations have evolved. By means of a historical review of the purpose of social housing in France and of the changes in the functions and profiles of concierges and caretakers, we set out the various paradigms which have shaped conceptions of their social role, and which today are marked by a repositioning of these purposes and of the work done by social housing staff as they face up to the problems posed by the crisis in neighbourhood level social infrastructure. We then draw on reflections from within sociology to propose an anthropological sociological approach to understanding the profession. This views the profession as a social phenomenon, and attemps to make links between the notions of a mechanism for delivering a " 'social contribution " and the process of " identity construction ". This approach makes it possible to treat the profession of the estate based social housing manager in terms of " social networking ", raising questions concerning the goals and limits of their remit, and the multiple competencies upon which they rely in order to provide for information flows to the landlord and residents, to provide overall monitoring and technical support services, and to promote residential harmony. It also makes it possible to understand the ongoing process of social labelling and boundary construction, which allows us to explore further the nature of their professional identity, as well as the status and position of the profession within the social housing organisation and within a socio-spatial context

Texto completoUnderstanding energy behaviour is necessary for the success of the energy transition. This is the object of this thesis. The first chapter describes the characteristics, challenges and the effects and effectiveness of different instruments to manage the demand side. The second chapter focuses on financial incentives to encourage the reduction of energy consumption. Based on a laboratory experiment, our results show that financial incentives (presented as a bonus in this thesis) serve as benchmarks to guide energy consumption. They encourage the least sober individuals to tend towards energy sobriety but, on the contrary, they partially crowd out the intrinsic motivations of the most sober. The final chapter investigates how to communicate. Indeed, attention can be drawn to the negative externalities and also to the positive externalities generated by consumption. We study the effect of this framing with a single shot linear public good experiment with simultaneous decisions, with and without risk. The participants cooperate more in a stochastic environment than in a deterministic one, and even more so when the emphasis is on losses. This can be explained by the fact that uncertainty favourably shifts extreme behaviours. Women in particular are the ones for whom the changes in behaviour are most marked

Texto completoThis thesis starts from a paradoxical observation, that of a temporal correspondence in the birth of three phenomena : problematic and growing pollution levels, tertiarization of economic activities and mass material consumption. This correspondence constitutes a paradox, because it is given that services are rather non-material activities, and also because tertiarized economies have often been described as composed by individuals searching to consume qualitative and tertiary products rather than searching to consume massively material goods. We explain this correspondence by the adaptive behavior of the economic agents.Tertiarization implies that the demand of goods reaches progressively its level of repletion. We explore the hypothesis that industrial firms have responded to this repletion by implementing planned obsolescence strategies. It seems that these strategies are behind the birth of the consumption society. In this context, the consumption society appears as a consequence of the tertiarization process. For all that, growth and the environment are not conflicting objectives for tertiary economies. Indeed, their growth is increasingly based on the accumulation of intangible capitals. This new source of accumulation permits to undertake majortransformations within industrial production processes without challenging the general process of economic growth. Furthermore, an environmental tax policy seems to be able to induce such desirable transformations
