Descritores: Adolescência; Paternidade; Pai; Adolescente.ABSTRACTDescriptive study, characterized as literature review, with the objective to get information on the paternity in the adolescence, that and with more frequency, is lived deeply by many young. Resumen
The aim of this study is to describe and analyze educational actions and promotion of sexual health activities for adolescents in an Elementary School in Florianopolis. It is a qualitative research, combined with the methodology of Paulo Freire, consisting of the investigation about themes raised by the adolescents (adolescence, sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases and contraception) through ‘culture circles’. The survey was performed at second semester of 2011, and applied to 45 students. As a result, the educational actions focused at the adolescent health promotion, encouraged the autonomy of the group and clarified doubts about sexuality and the construction of personality, as well as practical issues of STDs, prejudice and contraception. The ‘culture circles’ were effective actions for sexual health education, which is consistent with the high approval rate of the activity by students.

Resumen
Background: During puberty and emerging sexuality, adolescents experience important physical, mental, and social transformations. In the process of dealing with these changes, adolescents can become potentially vulnerable to mental health problems. Aim: The aim is to identify and synthesize published research evidence on sexuality-related mental health stressors among adolescent girls and boys, identify gaps (if any) in the current knowledge, and contribute to the knowledge about the experiences of emerging sexuality and health among adolescents, to further inform research, practice, and policy initiatives in sexual health. Design: A scoping literature review of peer-reviewed articles published between 1990 and 2021. MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Global health, ERIC, and Sociological Abstracts databases were searched for research studies that reported experiences of sexuality-related mental health issues and symptomatology of adolescents. We targeted studies conducted with adolescent populations between ages 10–19 years living in LMICs. Results: Data from 12 published research papers, including 8 qualitative studies, 3 quantitative studies, and 1 mixed method study, were systematically analyzed. Four major themes and four sub-themes were identified regarding the sexual and mental health of adolescents: (1) Relationship of sexuality and mental health; (2) Social and cultural influences; (3) Challenges in seeking sexuality information and services among adolescents; and (4) Educational needs among adolescents related to sexuality. Conclusions: Lack of social support, unmet needs for accessible adolescent-friendly sexual health services, counseling, and age-appropriate information may be associated with several mental health stressors and symptoms, such as sadness, depressive and anxiety symptomatology, regret, fear, embarrassment, low self-esteem, guilt, shame, and anger. Therefore, tackling sexuality-related stressors could play an important role in addressing the overall well-being of young people. Future studies need to generate a deeper understanding of the concept of sexual health and its relation to mental health in diverse contexts. Implications for Practice: Health care professionals need to be aware of sexuality-related experiences of adolescent girls and boys by offering effective youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health education to support overall mental health and improve the experiences of emerging sexuality in adolescents.

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore how the content and approach of parent-adolescent communication about sexuality were associated with three adolescent sexuality variables (sexual attitudes, combination of all behaviors and advanced behaviors). Design/methodology/approach Survey research with adolescents was conducted in classrooms at school. Participants were 473 adolescents (196 males, 253 females and 24 unreported) in grades 9–12 from two high schools (one urban and one suburban) in a large midwestern city. Findings Adolescents who described their parents’ communication approach as open, or who did not engage in conversations about sexuality with their parents reported lower rates of sexual behavior, when compared to adolescents whose parents dictated such conversations. Females were found to have more conservative sexual attitudes than males, and both mothers and fathers were found to have a direct role in talking to their children about sexuality. Originality/value Findings from the study may offer guidance to parents and help adults aiming to empower youth to make healthy sexual decisions.

Resumen

Adolescence is a period of searching for identity that requires information on reproductive health and sexuality so as not to fall into premarital sexual behavior. Parents play an important role in providing reproductive health information to adolescents. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between partner support, perceived barriers, and self-confidence with parents behavior for giving adolescent reproductive health education. The research employed a cross sectional approach which was conducted online in June-August 2020 to 300 parents of teenagers aged 15-19 years. The sampling technique is double sampling using self-administered questionnaire that has been tested for validity. Bivariate analysis was performed using Chi square and multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression test. The results showed that parents' self-confidence was the most influential factor in reproductive health education for adolescents (OR=3.052, CI=1.534-6.071). Parents who have low self-confidence tend not to provide comprehensive reproductive health information to adolescents. Lack of skills to explain the topic of sexuality, lack of knowledge of the material that will be given, and the shame when conveying sexuality material is something that affects parents' self-confidence. Training is needed for parents on how to provide information on reproductive health to adolescents.

Resumen
The article highlights the problems of researching the issue of critical periods in the formation of human sexuality. In particular, attention is focused on adolescence as one of the turning points in a person's psychosexual development, since many sexual problems originate from childhood or adolescence. The limits of adolescence in the understanding of domestic scientists are defined, a concise interpretation of the essence of adolescent sexuality, its differences and characteristic manifestations is provided. The process of development of platonic, erotic, sexual libido is described and the possible consequences in case of "falling out" of one of the stages are indicated. The role and significance of the third stage of psychosexual development, which coincides with adolescence and young adulthood, is revealed, the stages included in this stage of the development of human sexuality are outlined, and the tasks faced by adolescents at this time against the background of puberty, increased interest in the opposite sex and the emergence of sex drive Alternative scenarios of the formation of sexuality in the case of violations of psychosexual development or fixations at one of its stages are highlighted. Attention is focused on how disorders of psychosexual development can later affect a person's sexual behavior. It is shown that some complications in the realization of adult genital sexuality can originate from adolescence. On the basis of the studied material, directions for further research are outlined, current problems and ways for further development of relevant training, educational and educational programs for teenagers and adults are determined.

Resumen
Research in the area of adolescent sexuality suggests that young people use and trust school counsellors as a source of information about sexual issues. Interviews were conducted with 23 counsellors in 19 Australian high schools to explore the messages about sexual behaviour and sexual responsibility given to young people during counselling sessions. The main sexuality issues presenting in a counselling session were concerns about relationship breakdown, sexually transmitted infections after having unsafe sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, harassment and sexual abuse. Messages given to young people included ones of valuing oneself, making choices without coercion, being informed about consequences and risks, and being safe and responsible if sexually active. A sexual relationship was portrayed as a normal part of life and adolescents were encouraged to talk with their parents. Strategies that these counsellors adopt to help young people are discussed and recommendations are made.

Resumen
Using logitudinal data from self-reports and observer ratings of family interaction regarding 76 adolescent girls and their parents, this research investigated the effects of parental warmth and supportiveness on adolescents' depressed affect, attitudes about sexuality, peer influence, and sexual experience. The results indicated that girls with more emotionally distant parents were more likely to manifest symptoms of depression. Depressed affect, in turn, was associated with sexually permissive attitudes and having sexually active friends. Although there was a weak direct effect of Time 1 depressed affect on Time 2 sexual experience, the predominant influence on adolescent girls' sexual activity at Year 2 was their perception that their friends were sexually active during the previous year. The authors concluded that the effects of peer influence were due, in part, to the influence of the emotional climate of the girls' families.

Resumen
Introduction. Sexuality of children and adolescents in Croatia is still considered a taboo, and sexually transmitted diseases are a significant global public health problem that is constantly growing. As a frequent consequence of irresponsible sexual behaviour and early sexual intercourse, we are faced with the problem of juvenile, most often unwanted, pregnancy. Contraceptives are used to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies, and the most vulnerable group are the adolescents. The primary task is to educate the youth prior to them entering active sexual life. Aim. To collect and analyse data on sexual habits, attitudes and knowledge of adolescents. To assess the need for additional education and preventive programmes. Methods. 130 high school students, aged 17-19, participated in the survey. For testing purposes, a questionnaire was used. The questionnaire was conducted voluntarily and was completely anonymous, and a written consent was obtained from parents of juvenile participants. Results. The adolescent subjects in this study showed insufficient knowledge of sexuality, namely the menstrual cycle, contraceptives and emergency contraception, and sexually transmitted diseases. They showed knowledge of things they could get acquainted with on a daily basis through the media and other information outlets. Conclusion. According to the results obtained by the research, we can conclude that higher quality education of the youth is necessary, with the aim of expanding their knowledge of sexuality in order to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and the occurrence of unwanted juvenile pregnancies.

Resumen
To address the topic of adolescent sexuality and the elements that go into its genesis and evolution, it is necessary to determine when human sexuality, as a body system functioning independently from the human reproductive system, begins to function. In the case of the male, this has been shown by ultrasound technology to be at approximately 17 weeks of gestation, and subsequent developmental stages in both sexes are based on the three primary areas in human development: body, mind, sexuality. Positive aspects of sexual socialization are shown to depend on attitudes of parents, of society, of health and caring professionals, and of the child itself, to whom it is as important a part of its being as are body and mind. Significant research carried out in different parts of the world on childhood sexuality is cited and discussed with its possible long-term meanings, effects, and possible prevention of the current apparent increase in childhood sexual molestation. The need for a massive paradigm shift on the parts of professionals, parents, and society in viewing, nurturing, and protecting the sexuality of infancy and early childhood is emphasized.

Resumen
In a demographic sense, adolescents are a population group which is yet to take part in birth giving. Therefore, their sexual behavior and especially sexual activity at early ages which is not only unfavorable from the aspect of the individual, meaning risk for psycho-physical health, but from the aspect of society as well, as regards population fertility, deserves special attention. This paper shows the results of in-depth research carried out in Belgrade from September 2001 to October 2002 with an aim to establish which factors determine a young person, of sixteen years old or younger, to become sexually active. It was carried out on a sample of 111 adolescent girls between 14 and 20 years old which turned to the Republic Family Planning Center Youth Counseling Clinic of the Institute for Mother and Child Health Care of Serbia. The research showed that sexual experience, realized at an early age was an integral part of development and maturing for the largest number of surveyed girls. In the largest number of cases it was a positive experience, induced by love and experienced with a partner, mainly of the same age, with which they were in a longer, stable relationship. Nevertheless, it could be concluded from the results obtained by the research that the surveyed girls could have more easily and efficiently solved their problems and dilemmas regarding sexuality had they had the possibility to obtain a better insight into their personal feelings and feelings of others at the right time, as well as developed social experience and experience in mastering control of their impulses. With a certain number of surveyed girls that would have meant a delay in their sexual activities to a later age. This also refers to the prevention of other risky behavior such as use of alcohol and drugs, which also have an influence on changing sexual behavior, making it more risky. It is important to stress that the surveyed adolescent girls themselves recognized the necessity for support in this delicate field of life as well. The psycho-social profile of surveyed sexually active adolescent girls indicates that they do not belong under any circumstances to some marginal group. Therefore it can be concluded on the basis of the results obtained on this selected sample that an even greater necessity exists in the young population, and a possibility as well for better preparation and greater insight into questions from the sphere of sexuality. With a certain number of young girls this could lead to a certain delay in the commencement of sexual activities. Nonetheless, with a basic prerequisite of educational work on maintaining and promoting reproductive health of the young, which understands acquiring knowledge and skill, youth sexuality is above all, being accepted. Love takes up a significant place in the value system of our surveyed girls, as well as sex, which is mainly conceived as a constituent part of love, leading to a greater closeness with the partner and contributes to maturing and development of an individual. There is no reason to believe that it is otherwise in the population of the young people.

Resumen
This article reviews existing research on condom and abstinence method and user-failure rates, and the use of this research in determining sexuality education curricula. Latex condoms effectively prevent pregnancies and most sexually transmitted diseases or infections (STIs), with method-failure rates between 0.5% and 7%, but with user-failure rates between 12% and 70%. Total abstinence presumably has a method-failure rate of zero, but research on periodic abstinence indicates user-failure rates between 26% and 86%. No researchers have attempted to establish total abstinence user-failure rates. Abstinence-only curricula evaluations have demonstrated changes in adolescents’attitudes but little change in sexual behaviors. Comprehensive sexuality education curricula have demonstrated attitudinal changes and delays in adolescents’sexual activity. Since inconsistent use of either condoms or abstinence threatens adolescents’ health, this article urges more scientific research on total abstinence user-failure rates, better and clearer dissemination of research findings, and encourages funders to require educators to show thorough knowledge of research findings.

The aims of this research was to descript parental-adolescent communication consists of discussion of parents with adolescents about problems in school, focus on current adolescents, the level of difficulty in discussing sex with children, and the topic of discussion about sexual and reproductive education. This study used descriptive analytical methods on respondents as many as 56 people who met the research criteria. The result of this study showed parent-adolescence communication about the school problems was lack, most of parents attention focus was on the school record, most of parents says difficult to talk about sex, and most of parents were not disscuse about sensitive topic on sexuallity with their children. Communication between parents and adolescents tends to be general, such as achievement in school, manners, and friendship. Most parents find it difficult to communicate regarding sexuality issues with their teenagers

Resumen
Divorce in Indonesia continues to increase, resulting in an imbalance of family roles and functions. This imbalance has an impact on adolescents such as adolescent premarital sexual behavior. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship and influence of parent-adolescent interaction and peer interaction on the perception of premarital sexuality in adolescents from broken home families. The method used in this study was purposive sampling method with online survey completion. The number of research samples was 190 adolescents from broken home families in the Jabodetabek area (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi). The relationship test shows that parent-adolescent interaction has a significant negative relationship with the premarital sexual perceptions of adolescents from broken home families. The results of the effect test show that parent-adolescent interaction has a significant negative effect on the premarital sexual perceptions of adolescents from broken home families, but peer interaction has a positive and insignificant effect on the sexual perceptions of adolescents from broken home families. It is expected that parents can be a discussion partner for adolescents in solving problems. Teenagers are expected to be able to choose a good friendship environment.

Resumen
Youth growing up in traditional cultures are split between the messages that they receive on sexuality from their families and those they receive via the internet depicting values of Western culture. The Palestinian-Israeli community, a national, ethnic, and linguistic minority, is an example of this situation. The purpose of this community-based participatory research study is to describe the challenges and lessons learned about launching a community advisory board (CAB) in studies on the taboo topic of adolescent sexuality. Using content analysis, we identified two necessary conditions to convene a CAB on adolescent sexuality in a traditional community: (a) an insider academic researcher, fluent in the native language, able to discuss the linguistic difficulties of sexual terminology and (c) the recruitment of motivated, community activists who were knowledgeable on the topic. The mostly traditional society of Palestinian-Israelis shuns discussions on sexuality; but with these two conditions, the study was a success.

Resumen
Adolescent pregnancy is a problem that societies face, regardless of the level of development. Despite the availability of information and the availability of contraception, as well as the right to an abortion that is guaranteed in most modern societies, countries face many cases of adolescent pregnancies. Pregnancy in the period of adolescence irreversibly changes the lives of minors. It has an influence on their health, their education, social life and their future as adults. Also, the families of the under-aged parents are directly affected by the consequences, disrupting the functionality of the family. In a wider sense, the health system and social functioning are burdened in their entirety. Therefore, it’s important to prevent adolescent pregnancies. Contraception is the primary protection against unwanted pregnancy and insufficient and inconsistent application of contraception, as well as the lack of information among young people about the available methods of contraception, can be one of the main causes of adolescent pregnancies. Integrated sexuality education for adolescents can be a great benefit to educate adolescents about risk factors of pregnancy in early life. The influence of parents is crucial in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy. This paper's intention is to analyses the current situation on this topic, through available indicators on birth rates, maternal and children mortality worldwide. Qualitative research conducted between the student (18-22), should give more information about the use of contraception between young people, their opinion about the importance of contraception… Important questions are: Are they well informed about contraception; are the contraception products available; Are they feel free enough to talk with their parents on those topics..etc. Key words: Adolescents, Pregnancy, Adolescent Pregnancy, Teenagers, Family, Contraception.

Resumen
Background: Current microbicide clinical trials primarily enroll adult participants; however, females under the age of 18, because of their high rates of HIV acquisition, represent an important population for future microbicide clinical research. We sought to understand the individual, family and community-level factors that may influence the acceptability of microbicide use and research involving adolescent girls. Methods: We conducted 30 interviews with adolescent girls aged 14–17 and nine focus group discussions with adolescent girls, parents and community leaders in Kisumu, Kenya. Participants discussed adolescent sexuality, HIV prevention methods, perceptions about microbicide use and views about microbicide research involving adolescent girls. Results: Adolescent sexual activity is stigmatised yet acknowledged to be a natural part of the ‘adolescent stage.’ Desperation to stop the spread of HIV among youth and support for female-initiated HIV prevention methods led to enthusiasm about microbicides and future microbicide research. Yet concerns about microbicides were numerous and included: difficulty using it in a timely manner due to the rushed, unplanned nature of adolescent sex; a fear of trying experimental products; concerns about microbicide efficacy; and parental worry that supporting microbicide use in youth would defy societal pressures that denounce adolescent sexual activity. Conclusions: Microbicide acceptability for youth in sub-Saharan Africa may be bolstered by desperation for new methods to stop the spread of HIV, yet hindered by misgivings about experimental HIV prevention methods for youth. Understanding and addressing the microbicide’s perceived benefits and shortcomings, as well as the broader context of adolescent sexuality and HIV prevention, may facilitate future research and promotion of microbicides in this high-risk group.

Resumen
Background: Adolescent pregnancy an important problem in adolescent health and government agencies need to focus on solving problem. The purpose of this research was to survey the perceptions of community stakeholders concerning the prevention of adolescent pregnancies in rural communities. Methods: Data collection was performed using group meetings with 103 stakeholders involved in adolescent pregnancy prevention. They were nurses, public health officials, parents or guardians, students, teachers, public health volunteers and community leaders. Thematic analysis indicated work on adolescent pregnancy prevention problems in rural areas was carried out by only some agencies such as district and sub-district health promoting hospitals, providing youth-friendly health service clinics and educating student leaders in schools on sex education. Results: Collectively, these results draw attention to the need for an appropriate program to strengthen adolescent, family and practitioner skills for the prevention of teenage pregnancies. Schools provide sex education as part of a health education curriculum, and some schools provide additional instruction in guidance classes. Problems from inconsistent work when networks fail were encountered. Stakeholders believe adolescent pregnancy prevention should focus on the following: (1) adolescents should receive training for skill development with content related to knowledge about sex, negotiation, refusal, morality and ethics, (2) teachers should receive training on comprehensive sexual education, and, (3) families should work to improve their communication on sexual health and development Conclusions: There is a strong need for families to develop the ability to communicate with each other about sexuality and reproductive health. Developing parenting skills on how and when to talk about sex with their adolescents and open parental communication on sexuality issues at home is necessary. Activities need to also be developed for adolescents who are more inclined to engage in risky sexual behaviors.

This study aimed to investigate the use of condoms by high school adolescents of a public school in the city of Niterói. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative approach. The study population consisted of 51 adolescents aged 15 to 19 enrolled in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of high school. The inclusion criteria were: to be a high school student of both sexes, to be duly enrolled in the school in question, to have expressed interest in participating in the study, and to obtain the express permission of the legal guardian. Data collection was developed in May and June 2017 through a structured questionnaire with 65 closed questions. This study was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Antônio Pedro University Hospital under CAAE: 0265.0.258.000-10. It was found that 37.2% of the participating adolescents (19) have already started their sexual life. Being that, 13.7% of the adolescents (7) use a condom as a contraceptive method. 25.5% of adolescents (13) reported having used condoms the first time. Risk behavior was observed, as 37.3% of adolescents (19) indicated that they expected the other to remember the use of the condom, in opposition to 15.5% (8) that they remember to use. As well as, 29.4% of the adolescents (15) would not use condoms if the partner did not accept. Promoting adolescent health requires the challenge of adhering to more effective participatory strategies. The adolescents in this study remain exposed to unwanted pregnancies or sexually transmitted infections, emphasizing the need to raise the age group's awareness of the risks of unprotected sex. Nursing is inserted in this context with the responsibility of clarifying and raising the awareness of the adolescent towards safe actions that reduce or eliminate the risks of contamination.

Resumen
Purpose Adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections including HIV are important public health issues in many countries around the world. The trend is escalating among adolescents of younger ages. Many programmes aim to prevent adolescent sexual risk behaviours associated with these health outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyse methodological and substantive features of research on interventions to delay the initiation of sexual intercourse and prevent other sexual risk behaviours among early adolescents. Design/methodology/approach The review includes studies published between 2006 and 2017 that appear in Thai and international databases. Findings A total of 33 studies met specified review criteria. Of the studies reviewed, 14 used randomized control designs, 16 used quasi-experimental designs and three used a pre-test, post-test design. Sample sizes ranged from 64 to 4,776 subjects; nearly two-thirds of the studies (n = 22) included multiple follow-up surveys. The programmes evaluated in these studies can be grouped into three categories: abstinence-based sexuality education programmes (n = 12), comprehensive sexuality education programmes (n = 13) and youth development programmes designed for early adolescents (n = 10). In total, 22 programmes reviewed were effective in changing targeted adolescent psychosocial and/or behavioural outcomes. Research limitations/implications One of the limitations encountered in this study involved the search in library databases published only in Thai and English. Due to the limitation of searching library databases included in the review that reported the effects and differences among the included studies. Moreover, the search included publications consisted of heterogeneous designs and purpose with reports of different types of outcomes made it impossible to compare effect sizes. Practical implications The knowledge gained can be used to design and implement effective sexual health promotion programmes for early adolescents. Moreover, the findings can be applied as a guideline for health provider working in a schools, communities and adolescent health services. Recommendations for future studies are needed to consider methodological and substantive characteristics as well as the people who are involved in youth sexual health outcomes. Social implications It is necessary for government to develop a policy for encouraging parents to be aware and participate in solving the problems. Originality/value The review indicated that the positive effects of parental involvement and technology media as a programme material on the psychosocial and behavioural outcomes.

Resumen
ObjectiveAdolescent refugees encounter traumatic stressors and are at risk of developing psychosocial health problems; limited research data exist internationally. This study aims to identify health risk behaviours among adolescent refugees resettling in Western Australia and assess the feasibility of using a standardised adolescent health questionnaire for this purpose.DesignRefugees aged 12 years and above attending a tertiary Refugee Health Service (RHS) were recruited over 12 months. Sociodemographic data were collected. Psychosocial assessments based on the ‘Home, Education/Eating, Activities, Drugs, Sexuality, Suicide/mental health’ (HEADSS) framework were undertaken utilising interpreters where required. Health concerns identified were managed through the RHS.ResultsA total of 122 adolescents (20 ethnicities) participated; 65% required interpreters. Median age (range) was 14 (12–17) years. Most (80%) had nuclear family separation. Almost half (49%) had a deceased/missing family member. A third (37%) had lived in refugee camps and 20% had experienced closed detention. The median time (range) since arrival in Australia was 11 (2–86) months. Every adolescent had at least one health concern identified during the psychosocial assessment. Frequency of health concerns identified in each domain were 87% for home, 66% for education, 23% for eating, 93% for activities, 5% for drugs, 88% for sexuality and 61% for suicide/mental health. Most adolescents (75%) required intervention, consisting of counselling for health risk behaviours and/or referral to health or community services.ConclusionIt is feasible to use a standardised adolescent health questionnaire to identify health risk behaviours among a cohort of ethnically diverse adolescent refugees. Use of the questionnaire identified a large burden of psychosocial health issues requiring multidisciplinary intervention.

Resumen
Adolescence is a period of transition from childhood to adulthood accompanied by physical and hormonal changes. Sexual maturity in adolescence causes the emergence of sexual interest and high curiosity about sexuality. This makes adolescents very vulnerable to lead to premarital sexual behavior and the occurrence of unwanted pregnancies. This study aims to find out the practices of parents in providing adolescent social risk management at unwanted pregnancy. This research is a qualitative study with a case study approach. The informants in this study were seven people who were selected purposively with the criteria of parents who had teenage boys and girls (12-21 years) and were known to have been dating. Data validation uses triangulation of sources, namely teenagers who have been dating as many as three people. Data is taken by independent interview and analyzed using content analysis. Supervision by parents on child relationships includes parents having to know who their children are, supervising children's personal phone calls, setting curfew rules and giving penalties if the child violates. Parents also secretly checked children's personal items, even moved children's schools because the school environment was considered to have a bad influence. Monitoring by parents is intended so that children avoid bad relationships and risk the occurrence of unwanted pregnancy, but parents rarely give messages regarding reproductive health and sexuality to their teenagers. Parents are expected to be able to carry out family-based reproductive health and sexuality education to improve adolescents' understanding of the adverse effects and efforts to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

Resumen
Romantic relationships are central in adolescents' lives. They have the potential to affect development positively, but also place adolescents at risk for problems. Romantic experiences change substantially over the course of adolescence; the peer context plays a critical role as heterosexual adolescents initially interact with the other sex in a group context, then begin group dating, and finally have dyadic romantic relationships. Adolescents' expectations and experiences in romantic relationships are related to their relationships with their peers as well as their parents. Although research on adolescents' romantic relationships has blossomed in the past decade, further work is needed to identify the causes and consequences of romantic experiences, examine the diversity of romantic experiences, and integrate the field with work on sexuality and adult romantic relationships.

Pagrindiniai žodžiai: hermeneutinis kokybinis tyrimas, paauglės mergaitės, seksualumas, atspindėjimas, „žvilgsnio situacija“.ANALYSIS OF ADOLESCENT GIRLS’ SEXUAL SUBJECTIVITYIlona Kajokienė SummaryIt is difficult to take no notice of the gap existing between the relevance of the theme of sexuality in adolescence for young people themselves and the lack of attention of academia trying to understand, analyze, and conceptualize this experience of young people. There is still a need to understand the profound subjective sexual experience in adolescence, i.e. to reveal the pathways how the feeling that “I am a sexual person” arises in an adolescent’s self-awareness. The aim of the present study was to update and expand the understanding of the phenomenon of the adolescence sexuality experience and to offer an updated model of understanding it, which has been created with reference to adolescents’ narratives. Particularly, it is meant to understand, organize, and analyze a typical, characteristic of the normal development of adolescent girls’ sexual experience, highlighting the discursive position of the subject in order to answer one basic question: how or in what way in the awareness of an adolescent arises the feeling that “I am a sexual person”. The interpretive qualitative study of the exploratory strategy was based on a hermeneutic phenomenological methodological investigator’s position for interpreting the experience of the participants. Data obtained during a semi-structured interview were analyzed using the method of interpretative phenomenological analysis (Smith et al., 2009). The findings have been interpreted in consistence with the paradigm of a positive and normative development of sexuality in adolescence together with some psychoanalytic developmental theories. The study has revealed the typical feelings associated with the regularity of sexual subjectivity emergence in the process of growing self-awareness. The structure of the abstracted meta-theme called “Adolescence sexuality as part of an intensive I–Other experience” is presented to the reader in this publication. The material provides new data on the first conscious sexual experiences of adolescent girls, conceptualized as a “gaze situation”. The gaze situation is characterized by the interaction of four psychological micro-processes which stimulate sexual awareness and the integration of sexual self-experience. The author chooses to conceptualize these micro-processes as a) shifting reactions towards adolescent girls; b) the sense of personal singularity and uniqueness; c) the body becoming an alluring public object; d) striving to repeat the pleasurable experience of being looked at. Two additional themes were discussed as features of the intense I–Other experience related to the growing heterosexual sexual awareness: a) the Other should be a person outside the family, b) the Other should be a person of the opposite sex. Despite some limitations of the study, its findings confine importance of intersubjective experiences with the other sex to the development of sexual selfhood in adolescence.Key words: qualitative hermeneutic research, “gaze situation”, adolescent girls, sexuality, mirroring.

Resumen
This qualitative research article explored the convergences and divergences of perceptions of adolescent romantic experience between a group of adolescents and parents in China. One-to-one, in-depth interviews were conducted with 38 adolescents (aged 15-18 years; 26 girls, 12 boys) and 27 parents (aged 40-52 years; 16 mothers, 11 fathers) from the urban areas of a northern Chinese city. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis and interpreted using a socio-ecological approach. Four major themes were identified: opportunities and risks, acceptable versus unacceptable sexual intimacy, generational difference, and girls’ vulnerability and “self-respect.” In these themes, congruity and divergence of perceptions were found between the groups of adolescents and parents. These perceptions were largely influenced by traditional cultural beliefs of education, sexuality, gender, and family as well as the current socio-cultural context of modernization and globalization in China. The findings provide implications regarding how to support both adolescents and parents in managing adolescent romantic experience for adolescent health-promoting romantic and sexual behaviors.

Resumen
Nearly twenty years after the publication of Michelle Fine's essay "Sexuality, Schooling, and Adolescent Females: The Missing Discourse of Desire," the question of how sexuality education influences the development and health of adolescents remains just as relevant as it was in 1988. In this article, Michelle Fine and Sara McClelland examine the federal promotion of curricula advocating abstinence only until marriage in public schools and, in particular, how these policies constrict the development of "thick desire" in young women. Their findings highlight the fact that national policies have an uneven impact on young people and disproportionately place the burden on girls, youth of color, teens with disabilities, and lesbian/gay/bisexual/ transgender youth. With these findings in mind, the authors provide a set of research guidelines to encourage researchers, policymakers, and advocates as they collect data on, develop curricula for, and change the contexts in which young people are educated about sexuality and health.

Resumen
This review discusses the state of theory and research on how and under what conditions religion shapes various adolescent outcomes such as health, education, sexual behavior, and substance use. We focus on the latest theoretical advancements with respect to the avenues through which religious practice and belief might play positive or negative roles in the lives of adolescents. We also summarize an emerging literature on the conditions under which religion has stronger or weaker relationships with certain outcomes. In the end, we call on sociologists to extend the study of religion and adolescents through greater attention to the religious and sociocultural contexts in which religiousness is experienced (e.g., religious tradition or congregation, gender, race/ethnicity, sexuality, and social class).
