Resumen
Purpose Companies often aspire to create advantages for their businesses through acquisitions. Their participation has increasingly been documented to include different motives for acquirers, while focusing less on the ambitions of acquired parties with the acquisitions. The purpose of this paper is to describe and discuss gaps and the handling of gaps between acquirers and acquired parties in acquisitions of innovative firms. Design/methodology/approach In the paper, the authors specifically focus on acquisitions of innovative firms. Four case studies illustrate gaps between the acquirers and the acquired parties. Findings The authors conclude that gaps may be present from the start as latent gaps, and become activated in integration or as the consequence of non-integration decisions. Gaps between the acquirer and the acquired party may be further manifested in external parties’ reactions to the integration. The handling of gaps emphasizes a transition time and communication about expectations between the acquirer and the acquired party. Originality/value The paper contributes to previous research on mergers and acquisitions in general, and acquisitions of innovative firms in particular. Prior literature on acquisitions is scarce on descriptions of gaps or the handling of gaps. Gaps complement ideas on differences in culture between acquirers and acquired parties. It also highlights how acquired parties have as much intention with an acquisition as acquirers.

Resumen
We highlight a largely unstudied phenomenon that affects postacquisition performance: nested acquisitions. Nested acquisitions occur when a firm acquires a target firm that has itself recently acquired another firm. In our study of publicly traded U.S. acquirers and targets from 2000 to 2014, we theorize that nested acquirers face unique integration difficulties that reduce acquirer postacquisition performance. Specifically, we build on Penrosian logic and theorize that nested acquisitions tax the managerial capacity of the acquiring and acquired firms more than nonnested ones and that, as nested acquisition complexity increases due to variance within the embedded nested targets (i.e., greater number, more recent, less related, and larger nested targets), the drain on managerial capacity also increases. Ultimately, these challenges increase the likelihood of reduced postacquisition performance. Given these suggested difficulties, we theorize that retaining focal target managers can aid the acquiring firm and thereby help to reduce negative performance outcomes. In our unique sample of matched-pair firms, we find that nested acquisitions are associated with lower postacquisition performance but that retaining target firm managers can reduce this effect.

Resumen
We studied the stage transfer synchronization method to improve the low throughput which is the biggest drawback of the raster scan method when applied to image acquisition in a low energy microcolumn system. Through preliminary experiments, we were able to acquire some sample images and some images of the measured samples by applying the synchronization method to a conventional single-microcolumn system. The image acquired in this preliminary experiment was three times larger than that acquired by the raster scan method in the vertical direction. In this study, we tested two types of the synchronization method: the first method acquires an image by horizontal electron beam scanning followed by a vertical stage transfer, and the second one acquires an image by vertical electron beam scanning followed by a horizontal stage transfer. By applying the vertical stage transfer synchronization method, we could acquire a larger image than that acquired by the conventional raster scan method. The vertical stage transfer synchronization method image was 1.8 times larger in the horizontal direction and 6 times larger in the vertical direction. In addition, a larger image approximately nine times in the horizontal direction and five times in the vertical direction was acquired by applying the horizontal stage transfer synchronization method.

"Legal Consequences of Acquiring Company of Mining License Holder That Has Not Obtained Government Approval toward Mining License Transfer and Control". International Journal of Multicultural and Multireligious Understanding 6, n.º 3 (22 de julio de 2019): 785. http://dx.doi.org/10.18415/ijmmu.v6i3.908.

Resumen
The objectives of this research are 1) to find out the legal consequences of acquiring company of mining license holder that has not obtained government approval toward mining license transfer and control, 2) to find out the legal liabilities of company that acquires company of mining license holder. This legal research applies the method of normative juridical legal approach. The data analysis technique employs qualitative analysis. The results of this research revealed that the acquirer actually does not have any legal liability to the acquired party unless the acquirer is indeed proven to have committed bad faith during and after the acquisition process which could harm other parties including third parties. Thus, the acquirer can be held directly liable through the court or other ways. Meanwhile, the legal liability of the acquired party is that they must carry out an administrative process to the relevant agencies namely the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, to fulfill the provisions referred to in Article 93 of the Mineral and Coal Law. The party that acquires the company of mining license holder has the same obligation as the acquired party. The acquirer must comply with the provisions in the form of obligations which are required to the mining license holder such as the provisions of Article 95 up to 112 of Mineral and Coal Law.

Resumen
This work proposed a method to acquire regions of fruit, branch and leaf from red apple image in orchard. To acquire fruit image, R-G image was extracted from the RGB image for corrosive working, hole filling, subregion removal, expansive working and opening operation in order. Finally, fruit image was acquired by threshold segmentation. To acquire leaf image, fruit image was subtracted from RGB image before extracting 2G-R-B image. Then, leaf image was acquired by subregion removal and threshold segmentation. To acquire branch image, dynamic threshold segmentation was conducted in the R-G image. Then, the segmented image was added to fruit image to acquire adding fruit image which was subtracted from RGB image with leaf image. Finally, branch image was acquired by opening operation, subregion removal and threshold segmentation after extracting the R-G image from the subtracting image. Compared with previous methods, more complete image of fruit, leaf and branch can be acquired from red apple image with this method.

Resumen
Abstract We present a six-year follow-up of a boy with a novel type of hypolipoproteinemia, with clinical and biochemical features distinct from classical hypoalphalipoproteinemias. There were abnormally low concentrations of total and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, apolipoprotein (apo) B, apo A-I, and apo A-II, and the phospholipids were decreased. The most striking abnormality was an extra fraction containing mainly phospholipids and apo A-I in the HDL3 subfraction. This fraction is reminiscent of concentric 20- to 50-nm-diameter lamellar phospholipid liposomes. Plasma lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase activity was strongly decreased. We noted a persisting polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia, hematological abnormalities (hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia), and a progressive splenomegaly. After the five-year follow-up, the patient had recurrent severe infections; moderate hematuria and proteinuria developed gradually. Treatment with corticosteroids and immunoglobulins improved thrombocytopenia and hypolipoproteinemia. These clinical and biochemical findings differ from those in the known primary and secondary hypo-alpha-lipoproteinemia syndromes. Although investigation of the relatives suggests a familial predisposition for hypo-alpha-lipoproteinemia, the subject's condition can be regarded as acquired.

Resumen
Acquired thrombophilia is associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is the most prevalent acquired thrombophilia and is associated with both venous and arterial thromboses. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is another form of acquired thrombophilia. Risk factors associated with VTE in this population include those related to the disease itself, host factors, and the pharmacotherapy for HIV. A significant proportion of VTE events occur in patients with malignancies. There is an increase in mortality associated with patients having cancer who experience VTE when compared to patients having cancer without VTE. Combination oral contraceptive (COC) use infers risk of thromboembolic events. The risk is dependent upon the presence of an underlying inherited thrombophilia, the estrogen dose, and generation of progestin. Patients at highest risk of VTE include those receiving high-dose estrogen and fourth-generation, progesterone-containing contraceptives. With the exception of APS, thrombophilia status does not alter the acute treatment of an initial VTE in nonpregnant patients.
