Resumen
The present research reports the influences of variant phenolic resin concentrations on the thermo-mechanical and ablation characteristics of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) elastomer. Backface temperature acclivity (BTA), charring rates, and insulation indexes were executed for the fabricated composite specimens. It was noticed that BTA was enhanced while linear/radial/mass ablation rates were significantly diminished with increasing concentration of phenolic resin (PR) in base matrix (elastomeric polymer). The composite (30wt%PR/EPDM) has 25% high thermal endurance compared to virgin EPDM composite. Thermal conductivity was increased with increasing PR to EPDM ratio. PR incorporation has remarkably enhanced the ultimate tensile strength of the EPDM elastomer. An efficient improvement in elastomeric hardness was also observed with increasing PR contents in EPDM matrix. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) results showed the porosity generation and polymer melting during ablation.

Resumen
Abstract Carbon fibers (CFs) are incorporated into ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber to fabricate charring elastomeric ablative composites for ultrahigh temperature applications. Ablation characteristics of the ablative composites were evaluated using ASTM E285-08. Variant content incorporation of short CFs in the basic composite formulation reduced the backface temperature acclivity and the ablation rate rose up to 48% and 78%, correspondingly. Thermal stability and endothermic capability were improved with increasing short fiber contents in the rubber matrix. Experimental thermal conductivity measurement results elucidate that thermal conductivity reduces 60% at 473 K with 6 wt% addition of the fibers. A remarkable improvement was scrutinized in the tensile strength and rubber hardness with increasing fiber to matrix ratio. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis of the composite specimens revealed the uniform dispersion of CFs within the host matrix, formation of voids during ablation, char-reinforcement interaction and composition of the charred ablators and the impregnated fibers.

Resumen
Studies of cambial dynamics have been employed to investigate the growth behavior of trees. In these investigations, however, spatial variation in cambial rhythm within the stem is usually not taken into account. This study aims to evaluate the contribution of multiple sampling scales on the cambial dynamics of Cedrela odorata L. (Meliaceae) in different seasons. The effects of slope orientation were also tested. Samples were processed and analyzed with standard plant histology techniques. Data from multiple sampling scales were analyzed with nested ANOVA for each season, and the total variance was partitioned according to the fraction related to each scale. The main sources of variability were associated with the scale of tree and scales smaller than 1 cm. Radial growth was not significantly related to acclivity orientation. Thus, to obtain samples that represent total variability in cambial dynamics, it is preferable to increase the number of sampled trees; to take multiple samples from a few millimetres apart from each other, or to assess multiple histological sections. Samples on scales greater than a few centimetres apart should not be given priority.

Every year, institutions spend a large amount of resources to solve emergencies generated by hydrogeological instability. The identification of areas potentially subject to hydrogeological risks could allow for more effective prevention. Therefore, the main aim of this research was to assess the susceptibility of territories where no instability phenomena have ever been detected. In order to obtain this type of result, statistical assessments of the problem cannot be ignored. In this case, it was chosen to analyse the susceptibility to landslide using a flexible method that is attracting great interest in the international scientific community, namely the Weight of Evidence (WoE). This model-building procedure, for calculating landslide susceptibility, used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software by means of mathematical operations between rasters and took into account parameters such as geology, acclivity, land use, average annual precipitation and extreme precipitation events. Thus, this innovative research links landslide susceptibility with triggering factors such as extreme precipitation. The resulting map showed a low weight of precipitation in identifying the areas most susceptible to landslides, although all the parameters included contributed to a more accurate estimate, which is necessary to preserve human life, buildings, heritage and any productive activity.

Resumen
Studies comparing the two classes of stimuli (concentric and eccentric) have shown differences in the improvement of cardiovascular, metabolic, and muscle strength gain. This is an experimental, quantitative, and prospective study that aimed to verify the effect of eccentric exercise on glycolytic consumption and kinetics. The blood glucose kinetics of 17 male subjects was evaluated during a treadmill exercise with a 10% declined floor and velocity that required a 60% metabolic activity of VO2max, for 30 minutes. Seventy-two hours later, the same subjects exercised on the treadmill with a 10% inclined floor and 60% VO2max, for 30 minutes. To quantify glucose, blood samples were collected before the exercise, every three minutes along the 30 minutes of physical activity, and five and 10 minutes after finishing the exercise. For the downward slope, there was a homogeneous group behavior for blood glucose dynamics during the exercise, which was characterized by a monotonic decrease of glucose levels until reaching a minimum value at experimental times between 20 and 30 min, followed by a progressive recovery toward initial values. For the acclivity condition, blood glucose dynamics did not follow such a homogeneous behavior. A set of different types of dynamics could be identified. Experimental data showed that the type of dynamics could be predicted, to some extent, by the basal blood glucose level of subjects. The type of floor slope (upward or downward) directly affected glycolytic consumption and kinetics for the individuals analyzed.

Resumen
AbstractWestern expansion and domination through colonial systems served as a form of globalization, spreading white hegemony across the globe. While whites retained the monopoly on ‘modernity’ as the exclusive writers of historical progress, ‘backward’ African Americans were perceived as ‘outside’ Western culture and history. As a result, there were no African American individuals perceived as succeeding in Western terms in the arts, humanities, and sciences. In response, African American intellectuals forged a counter-global bloc that challenged globalization conceived as hegemonic Western domination. They sought to insert African Americans as a whole into the history of America, (re)creating a local black American history ‘forgotten’ because of slavery and Western power. African American intellectuals thus created a ‘usable past’, or counter-memory, to reconstitute history through the inclusion of African Americans, countering Western myths of black inferiority. The devastating legacy of slavery was posited as the cause of the African Americans’ lack of Western cultural acclivity. Due to the lack of nationally recognized African American figures of Western cultural achievement, intellectuals constructed Dumas as a lieu de mémoire as part of wider efforts to appropriate historical individuals of black descent from across the globe within a transnational community produced by the Atlantic slave trade. Since all blacks were perceived as having a uniting ‘essence’, Dumas’ achievements meant that all blacks had the same potential. Such identification efforts demonstrated African Americans’ social and cultural suitability in Western terms and the resulting right to be included in American society. In this process, African Americans expressed a new, local black identity by expanding an ‘African American’ identity to a wider range of individuals than was commonly applied. While constructing a usable past, African Americans redefined ‘America’ beyond the current hegemonic usage (which generally restricted the term geographically to the US) to encompass an ‘Atlantic’ world – a world in which the Dumas of memory was re-imagined as an integral component with strong connections to slavery and colonialism.

UNITERMOS: coeficientes de uniformidade, café, emissores MANTOVANI, E. C.; TEIXEIRA, M. B.; RAMOS, M. M.; OLIVEIRA, R.A. de; SOUZA, D. O. EVALUATION METHODOLOGY FOR CENTRAL PIVOT IRRIGATION EQUIPPED WITH LEPA 2 ABSTRACT A study was carried out to propose an evaluation methodology for a central pivot irrigation system equipped with LEPA-type emitters. A device to measure the flow rate of the LEPA emitter was developed to operate under field conditions. The measurements of the flow rate were performed in all nozzles of central pivots positioned at acclivity and slope. Then, the percentage of the evaluated emitters (100, 50, 33 and 25%) was determined in order to optimize the collection time without influencing the uniformity coefficients. The tests for the development of the device and the proposed evaluation methodologies for central pivot irrigation system equipped with the LEPA-type emitter were carried out at the Irrigated Coffee Growth, Research and Observation Area (PNP&D-Café/DEA-UFV/VALMONT), located in Paula Cândido county, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. To verify the feasibility of the developed device and the proposed methodologies, six irrigation systems located in Patrocínio, Estrela do Sul, and Uberlândia counties, in Triângulo Mineiro region were evaluated. According to the results, there is no need to measure the flow rate from all emitters to evaluate the Christiansen uniformity coefficients and the distribution coefficients, and just the evaluation of 50% emitters is enough since this methodology did not significantly differ from the methodology used to evaluate all emitters. KEYWORDS: coefficient uniformity, coffee, nozzles

Resumen
: The investigation of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) as a potential alternative material to conventional silicon-based solar cells has attracted remarkable attention. These stances on graphene established optical properties (excellent transparency, conductance in near-infrared and visible light spectrums) and thermochemical stability as reported in the literature. However, graphene synthesis methods suitable for industrial-scale production and their practical application are still the concerns of the researcher in the related field. The single, few, and adhesive layer mechanical cleavage graphene methods are not yet pragmatic, as these methods will restrict the chance for scaling up. These limitations and inadequate reviews of graphene developments impelled us to compile the advances in graphene synthesis, properties, recent applications, and future directions. The mechanical exfoliation synthesis technique reported delivering quality graphene films sized from about 5 to 10 Graphene-TiO2 hybridization found to possess efficiency acclivity as high as 39%. This work provides graphene advances and limitations that can guide researchers in photovoltaic or optical modulation devices.

Resumen
Background: Pain experienced during dental procedures evolves into negative attitude towards dentistry, which is projected as anxiety and fear of the child. Administration of local anesthesia (L.A) although an intervention to render painless procedures, in itself causes pain by its conveyance. Wand® (Milestone Scientific, Livingston, NJ, USA) is a system introduced to decrease soreness in the course of anesthetic conveyance. Owing to the sparse information comparing conventional systems with those of Wand, the present study evaluated pain related behavior in children exhibiting pre-assessed variant levels of anxiety midst administration of local anesthesia. Aim: To correlate pain related behavior amidst delivery of local anesthesia using conventional syringe and the Wand® STA system in children exhibiting variant anxiety levels. Methodology: The In vivo study embodied 32 children aged between 6 to 8 years. The volunteered participants were pre-categorized into low and high anxiety using the Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale. They were further divided using the SNOSE technique – receiving L.A the conventional syringe (group A) and those receiving L.A using the C.C.L.A.D (group B). Pain reactions and perceptions to the two delivery methods were calculated using subjective scales and objective physiological parameters. Results: Comparing pain perception in pre-assessed anxiety categories affirmed a remarkable difference with the use of C.C.L.A.D and appeared to bestow effortless, pain-free delivery over the traditional cartridge delivery. Conclusion: C.C.L.A.D builds a refined acclivity for dispersal of the solution, ergo an utilitarian tool in pediatric dentistry.

Resumen
Western feminism is encapsulated in literature and corresponds in written form, which is contradictory to the East, especially in countries like India. Because of its oral tradition and greater illiteracy, the effect of this discourse was limited to the urban community. But the recent scenario is different as rural people are much better informed with the advent of the electronic media. Indian women writers in English have been raring to try their hands at writing over the past few decades and perpetually making efforts to accomplish their mission successfully. They no longer fall behind their male counterparts no matter what the genre is. Their artistic creations are axiomatic and have bagged a prominent place in the spectrum of world literature. Women novelists are now globally recognized for their contribution to the amplification of Indian Writings in English, especially in the genre of fiction which causes the acclivity of feminist literature. The most prominent among them are Shobha Dey, Arundhati Roy, Anita Desai, Kamala Markandeya, Ruth Prawar Jhabvala, Shakuntala Shrinagesh, Bharathi Mukherjee, and Kiran Desai, who defy the deep-seated patriarchy. Among these writers, Anita Desai denies a narrow feminist approach and portrays females' desire for liberty from social and traditional bondages in patriarchy. The present paper explores the despicable status of women in the Indian patriarchy and expounds on the depiction of the psychological plight of her female characters and gender oppression in her novel Fasting, Feasting. As a prominent Indian writer, Desai proposes her outlook and stance on the issues of femininity and elucidates that Indian feminism contradicts the Western one.

AbstractHeat exchangers possess a significant role in energy transmission and energy generation in most industries. In this work, a three-dimensional simulation has been carried out of a shell and tube heat exchanger (STHX) consisting of segmental baffles. The investigation involves using the commercial code of ANSYS CFX, which incorporates the modeling, meshing, and usage of the Finite Element Method to yield numerical results. Much work is available in the literature regarding the effect of baffle cut and baffle spacing as two different entities, but some uncertainty pertains when we discuss the combination of these two parameters. This study aims to find an appropriate mix of baffle cut and baffle spacing for the efficient functioning of a shell and tube heat exchanger. Two parameters are tested: the baffle cuts at 30, 35, 40% of the shell-inside diameter, and the baffle spacing’s to fit 6,8,10 baffles within the heat exchanger. The numerical results showed the role of the studied parameters on the shell side heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drop in the shell and tube heat exchanger. The investigation shows an increase in the shell side heat transfer coefficient of 13.13% when going from 6 to 8 baffle configuration and a 23.10% acclivity for the change of six baffles to 10, for a specific baffle cut. Evidence also shows a rise in the pressure drop with an increase in the baffle spacing from the ranges of 44–46.79%, which can be controlled by managing the baffle cut provided.

Resumen
Lysosomal acid lipase (LAL), coded by LIPA gene, is key role player of LDL receptor pathway, and LIPA is a susceptibility gene for CAD in many GWAS studies. LAL hydrolyzes cholesterol-ester in hepatocytes, and is essential for M2 activation of macrophages. Furthermore, LAL-deficiency, with increased LDL-C and premature CAD, has been focused as underdiagnosed disease similar to familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). On the other hand, little is known about the role of physiological LAL activity on atherosclerosis. We investigated LIPA gene as genetic cause of FH, and LAL activity in CAD high-risk group. Methods: This study consisted of two parts. First part was genetic analysis of LIPA gene. From 940 clinically diagnosed hetero-FH patients in Japan, pathogenic mutations were identified in 788 patients through screening in LDLR, PCSK9, and APOB genes. All coding regions of LIPA gene were investigated in 143 hetero-FH patients without pathogenic mutation in those genes. Identified variants were also evaluated in 200 genetically confirmed hetero-FH, 200 non-FH dyslipidemia, and 250 general population samples. Second part was LAL acclivity measurement with very recently developed fluorometric assay method using dried blood spots. A total of 122 CAD high-risk patients (M/F: 67/55, age: 65 ± 15 yrs, established CAD: 34%, DM: 46%, hetero-FH: 25%) were investigated their LAL activity. Results: Analysis in LIPA gene revealed no patients with LAL-deficiency among FH without confirmed mutations. All variants identified were considered as benign. Intriguingly, common LIPA T16P carriers showed lower pre-treatment LDL-C in genetically confirmed hetero-FH (LDL-C 215±61 vs. 242±70 mg/dL, p <0.05). In activity analysis, LAL activity correlated positively with BMI (R 2 : 10%, p <0.0005), γGTP (R 2 : 11%, p <0.0005), and HbA1c (R 2 : 5%, p <0.05), and negatively with LDL-C (R 2 : 4%, p <0.05). Exclusion of FH did not change these results. LAL might have a protective role in obesity, like metabolic syndrome does not necessarily reveal high LDL-C. Conclusion: LAL-deficiency was not common genetic cause of FH in Japan. LAL activity increased with obesity, and negatively correlated with LDL-C. Further study will clarify the role of LAL in atherosclerosis.

Resumen
On the basis of new survey, knowledge of Australia’s heteropteran fauna has been shown to have a significant taxonomic impediment, requiring the description of many new lineages. In this work we provide a monographic treatment of the lace bug genus Epimixia, including a phylogenetic analysis validating its monophyly. We redescribe the genus and previously described species E. alitophrosyne Kirkaldy, E. nigriceps (Signoret), E. nigripes dysmica Drake & Ruhoff, E. nigripes nigripes (Horváth), E. veteris Drake, E. vittata Horváth and E. vulturna (Kirkaldy). Eighteen new species are described, including the first recorded species from Papua New Guinea (E. gagnei, sp. nov.), a second species from New Caledonia (E. fulva, sp. nov.) and 16 new Australian species (E. aboccidente, sp. nov., E. acclivis, sp. nov., E. albimons, sp. nov., E. allocasuarina, sp. nov., E. bicolor, sp. nov., E. caerulamons, sp. nov., E. christopherdarwini, sp. nov., E. eneabba, sp. nov., E. kimberley, sp. nov., E. leai, sp. nov., E. megacosta, sp. nov., E. minor, sp. nov., E. pilbara, sp. nov., E. schuhi, sp. nov., E. tropica, sp. nov. and E. verticordiaphila, sp. nov.). Epimixia dysmica Drake & Ruhoff is elevated to species rank, from its previous subspeciefic status within E. nigripes. This work also reports host plants for Epimixia, predominantly belonging to the Casuarinaceae, with a handful of species associated with the Myrtaceae, Proteaceae and Fabaceae. Host plants are mapped to the Epimixia phylogeny, indicating that the Casuarinaceae-affiliated Epimixia species form a subclade. Area relationships of the Epimixia species are analysed using subtree analysis, resulting in the south-west and south-east corners of Australia being sisters, relative to the Adelaide subregion, and in turn to Atherton + New Caledonia. http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:E7FC4E37-517D-4AB7-A918-B9104D63AB25
