Resumen
Abstract This article evaluates the debated placements of fragments in the reconstruction of the War Scroll from Cave 1 (1QM). There are three fragments (frags. 3, 9, 10) and one large fragment cluster (1QM 2, 8, DSSHU pl. 34; 1Q33 2) that are contested in 1QM scholarship. These placements are important for establishing the text of 1QM and the determination of whether there was another War Scroll from Cave 1 among the fragments assigned to 1QM and 1Q33. I will evaluate the remaining debates about fragment placements in 1QM, focusing especially on Hanan and Esther Eshel’s proposal (2000) that the large fragment cluster is not part of 1QM but is the remnant of a different scroll, which they label 1QMa. To assist in weighing the plausibility of fragment placements in 1QM, this article incorporates 3D visualizations of how 1QM would appear in a rolled state to demonstrate how well some proposed fragment placements cohere with the scroll’s damage patterns.

Resumen
Abstract This essay presents the results of an extended study of verbal argument structure in the War Scroll (1QM). I first establish a method based in generative linguistic theory. I then illustrate this method with a discussion of the argument structure of Qal ‮יצא‬‎ in 1QM and other Dead Sea Scrolls. Following this case study, I present the data from 1QM on verb argument structure—specifically, instances where 1QM adds evidence that is not covered in previous studies of the Dead Sea Scrolls. 1QM presents few developments from earlier Hebrew; I argue that such continuity is significant. I conclude with reflections on the implications of argument structure in 1QM for the study of ancient Hebrew.

Resumen
AbstractIn studies of Qumran Hebrew, syntax has been somewhat neglected. The present study attempts to help fill in our understanding of QH syntax, and word order specifically. The data of 1QM can best be explained using a Subject-Verb model. However, the model is not perfect. Consideration of the strange word order patterns of and leads to a revision of the SV model, which is better able to account for all the word order phenomena in 1QM. The basic word order of 1QM is best described as Subject-Verb, with inversion triggered by the fronting of a non-subject element or by the use of an intransitive main verb. A robust understanding of word order carries important ramifications for interpretation. In 1QM 1:1‐3, for example, word order supports an identification of the sons of Levi, Judah, and Benjamin as “violators of the covenant.”

Resumen
AbstractAs the product of a textual community imbedded in an oral culture, the War Scroll can be rewardingly approached as a composition intended for a community of hearers. Indeed, this article demonstrates that 1QM retained an orally fluid textuality and preserves a variety of textual indicators of performativity: hints of oral engagement, accumulation of imitable practices, and reliance on rhetorical techniques suited to the ear. In examining the performative potentials in the War Scroll’s prescriptive (cols. 1–9), prayer (cols. 10–14), and dramatic (cols. 15–19) material, I argue that 1QM can be understood as a spoken text, one which lends itself to performance and embodiment.

Resumen
The purpose of this article is to explore what kind of light apocalyptic eschatology can shed on our understanding of Paul’s argumentation in 2 Cor 10–13. The focus is on 2 Cor 10:3–6, where Paul, using the topos of holy war, describes his struggle against the opponents in Corinth. The apostle elaborates on a biblical theme, which also appears in Jewish apocalyptic texts, such as 1QM and T. 12. Patr. Comparing 2 Corinthians with this literature allows us to see certain similarities: the performative nature of 2 Cor and 1QM; the radical division into the servants of light and the servants of darkness; the active participation of Belial/Satan in the present warfare, and the belief in the absolute defeat of the evil spirit at the end of time, combined with the gift of peace and the universal reign of the Messiah. There are also significant differences between Paul on the one hand, and 1QM and T. 12. Patr. on the other: the lack of dualism of the cosmic type and a non-violent nature of Paul’s struggle, resulting from the fact that the apostle imitates the meek and clement Christ. Ultimately, the apocalyptic eschatology sharpens Paul’s rhetoric, strengthens his authority in Corinth and enhances the weight of his appeals to the community, upon the acceptance of which the salvation of believers depends.

Resumen
Abstract This contribution offers a critical evaluation of John Screnock’s hypothesis that the basic word order in 1QM is subject-verb, with inversion triggered by fronting of non-subject elements or by the use of intransitive verbs. After a detailed examination of the evidence, the opposite conclusion is reached. Basic word order is verb-subject, with inversion to subject-verb order with pragmatically marked subjects (focus fronting). There seems to be no causal relationship between transitivity and word order. Furthermore, it is argued that Screnock’s interpretation of 1QM 1:1–3 (which flows from his transitivity-based analysis) is highly unlikely, as it leads to a division of sentences that would produce a structure practically unattested in the rest of the text. In addition, the findings are applied to the general discussion of word order in Hebrew, in particular as an argument against recent attempts at describing Biblical Hebrew as a language with basic subject-verb order.

Strategic alliances have been growing in popularity among firms over the past 10 years. The basis for the formation of truly strategic alliance has been presented by several authors who use the theoretical foundations that are popular in strategic management, in particular the resource-based theory of the firm, organizational learning theory and industrial organizational economics. Still, little has been said about why these alliances are sustained. This paper takes those same theoretical bases and constructs a basic set of propositions about the continuation of strategic alliances.

Resumen
One of the foundational elements of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) guidelines is early postoperative mobilization. For patients undergoing head and neck cancer (HNC) surgery with free flap reconstruction, the ERAS guideline recommends patients be mobilized within 24 h postoperatively. The objective of this study was to evaluate compliance with the ERAS recommendation for early postoperative mobilization in 445 consecutive patients who underwent HNC surgery in the Calgary Head and Neck Enhanced Recovery Program. This retrospective analysis found that recommendation compliance increased by 10% despite a more aggressive target for mobilization (from 48 to 24 h). This resulted in a decrease in postoperative mobilization time and a stark increase in the proportion of patients mobilized within 24 h (from 10% to 64%). There was a significant relationship between compliance with recommended care and time to postoperative mobilization (Spearman’s rho = −0.80; p < 0.001). Hospital length of stay was reduced by a median of 2 days, from 12 (1QR = 9–16) to 10 (1QR = 8–14) days (z = 3.82; p < 0.001) in patients who received guideline-concordant care. Engaging the clinical team and changing the order set to support clinical decision-making resulted in increased adherence to guideline-recommended care for patients undergoing major HNC surgery with free flap reconstruction.

In mt-Jer there are four cases of a peculiar אשר clause, which seems to be syntactically isolated (mt-Jer 14:1; 46:2; 47:1 und 49:34). However, the existence of three similar cases has been hitherto overlooked (two in the supposed Hebrew Vorlage of the lxx-Jer and one in 1QM). In this paper, we shall argue that the function of this אשר clause is to introduce a quotation. In syntactical terms, the relative clause is the predicate and the quotation the subject of a nominal clause.

This article is an archaeo-musicological study of the trumpets (ḥaṣoṣrot, metal wind instruments) and shofarot (animal horns) in the War Scroll from the Dead Sea Scrolls of Qumran. The study of ancient Jewish music is largely uncharted territory. Many musical terms that appear in the Bible, Second Temple writings, and rabbinic literature, including the names of musical instruments, are not fully understood and there are many questions about their interpretation. For this reason, the War Scroll is one of the most important sources for archaeo-musicological scholarship of the ancient world generally, and of the Second Temple period in particular. This is not only because of the extensive description of the use of trumpets and shofarot in warfare that is found in the scroll, but especially because this rare and rich description is unmatched in any ancient work, Jewish, Hellenistic, or Roman. This uniquely extensive description includes a detailed itemization of the stages when the priests use different types of trumpets to direct the fighting forces, and describes the sounding of the shofarot by the Levites and the people as a means of instilling fear in the enemy. In addition, the scroll lists the types of sounds generated by trumpets and shofarot in battle, using technical and musical terms whose meaning is not always clear. In this article, I re-examine the interpretations that previous scholars have suggested for the terms describing the sounds made by the trumpets and shofarot in the War Scroll, and, in some cases, I offer new interpretations. I also examine how trumpets and shofarot were used in specific stages of the eschatological war depicted in the scroll and suggest a number of ways to understand the military uses and purpose of the incorporation of these instruments. In addition to contributing to the understanding of the musical terms that appear in the War Scroll, my research opens a window to the rich musical language used by the Dead Sea sect and perhaps also by other groups in the Second Temple era.

Resumen
Abstract In this article an overview is given of the verbal valence patterns of the verb ‮נתן‬‎ in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Four patterns are distinguished for this verb: 1. ‮נתן‬‎ + OBJECT to produce; 2. + ‮נתן‬‎ OBJECT + RECIPIENT to give to; 3. ‮נתן‬‎ + OBJECT + LOCATION to place; 4. ‮נתן‬‎ + OBJECT + 2ND OBJECT to make into. All occurrences of the verb in the DSS corpus used, consisting of 1QHa, 1QS, 1QM, and 1QpHab, are discussed and divided into one of these patterns. This study shows that pattern 3 occurs most, followed by pattern 2, and that it can be argued that pattern 1 and 4 also occur in our DSS corpus, though the evidence is scarce. In some cases, translations, differing from the translations in the editions of the texts, are proposed that better reflect the verbal valence patterns used in the clause.

Resumen
This article examines the concept of the body within a wide range of Qumran literature. In a comparison with the biblical tradition, which does not evince a consistent and systematic idea of the body, this article demonstrates that the sectarians developed their own somatic model. The sectarian model, as revealed through a close reading of such texts as Hodayot, 1QS, 1QSa, CD and 1QM, is one that repeatedly emphasized the body as a corporate entity comprised jointly of flesh and spirit. This article then reexamines the same Qumran texts to show that this concept of the body explains the extreme focus on purity at Qumran, particularly the sectarian conflation of moral and ritual purification. A final comparison with Philo, who espoused a dualistic model of the body, underscores just how truly unique the sectarian view of the body and purity was among early Jews.

e15510 Background: The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a lasting impact on the care of cancer patients. Multiple studies have shown that individuals with cancer are at high risk of serious complications in the setting of COVID-19 infection, but the impact in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies remain incompletely understood. We aimed to assess the impact of COVID-19 infection on mortality, length of stay (LOS), and cost of care among patients with GI malignancies, and identify differences in outcomes based on primary tumor site. Methods: We analyzed discharge encounters collected from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) between March 2020 and December 2020, using propensity score-matching (PSM), and COVID- 19 as treatment effect. Results: Of the 87,684 patient discharges with GI malignancies, 1,892 were positive for COVID-19 (C+ve) and eligible for matching in the PSM model. Proportion for C+ve; male (61.2%), female (38.8%), White (55.8%), Black (17.9%), Hispanic (18.6%) and other (7.6%). Median age was 69 years (1QR: 61-77). Monthly variation reflected the wave and plateau dynamics of the spread of COVID-19. Following PSM analysis, C+ve patients with GI tumors demonstrated increased mortality compared to their COVID-19-negative (C-ve) counterparts (21.3% versus 11.9%, p < 0.001). C+ve patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) had significantly higher mortality compared to those who were C-ve; 39.95% [161/403] versus 24% [54/225], p = 0.035). In addition, C+ve patients with GI tumors had a longer LOS (9.42 days versus 6.95 days, p < 0.001) and increased cost of care ($26,048.29 versus $21,625.24, p = 0.001) compared to C-ve. Higher odds of mortality from myocardial infarction among C+ve(OR = 3.54, P = 0.001) while mortality due to pulmonary embolism or liver failure was not significantly different between C+ve and C-ve groups. Conclusions: This PSM analysis suggests that prior to the introduction of vaccines, C+ve patients with GI tumors faced approximately double the odds of mortality, an increased LOS of 2.5 days, and increased cost of care of about $4,400 compared to their C-ve counterparts. The disparity of outcomes was most pronounced among CRC patients. It is possible that the direct effects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on the GI tract may predispose to mortality and disease severity, warranting further investigation. [Table: see text]

Resumen
Abstract This article examines Hartmut Stegemann’s preliminary proposal that the remains of the beginning handle sheet of 1QHa have survived and provide useful data for reconstructing the scroll. According to Stegemann, this handle sheet supplies critical material evidence that three columns existed before 1QHa 4, the first substantially extant column in the manuscript. The handle sheet was recovered from one of three scrolls, 1QM, 1QIsab, and 1QHa. Each of these possibilities is considered, and a new proposal that the handle sheet belongs to the end of 1QIsab is advanced. The article offers a tentative reconstruction of the handle sheet as part of 1QIsab to demonstrate its material continuity with col. 28 of 1QIsab.

Resumen
Aim And Objectives: Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, fungal pathogen it causes late blight, which results in devastating economic loss among the Solanaceae. The bacillus lipopeptides shows the antagonistic activity against the many plant pathogens, among bacillus lipopeptides Iturin A reported as the antifungal gene. Hence, to understand the in silico antifungal activity, we have selected gene iturin A (AXN89987) produced by Bacillus spp to check the molecular dynamics study with the effector proteins of the P. infestanse. In this concern known effectors proteins of P. infestans were subjected to the protein-protein interaction and followed by simulation. Material and Method: Iturin A gene was amplified using the soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis with gene specific primers. Cloned into pTZ 57R/T vector and confirmed by sequencing. To get better insight the protein model was developed for Iturin A using Modeller 9.17, also for the effector proteins by using PDB structure of ID 4MRT (Phosphopantetheine Transferase Sfp) and 1QR0 (4'-phosphopantetheinyl moiety of coenzyme A) as template it shares the identity 72% and expected P-value: 3e-121 respectively. The model quality was assessed using ProSA and PROCHECK programs. Results: The potency of modelled protein against effector proteins of P. infestans were evaluated in silico using the HADDOCK server and the results showed the high affinity of Iturin A toward the effector protein Host ATG8 (PDB-5L83). Finally, the simulation was performed to the docked conformation of Iturin A with Host ATG8 to further understand the stability of the complex using Desmond program. Conclusion: Altogether the protein-protein interaction and simulation study propose a new methodology and intern it also attempted to uncover possible antifungal activity of iturin A against effector proteins of P. infestans.

Resumen
Abstract Background N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) is a functional metabolite involved in coronary artery disease (CAD). We aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum Neu5Ac and the risk and prognosis of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in a real-world prospective study. Methods Patients with suspected ACS who underwent coronary angiography were included. Serum Neu5Ac was measured at admission. Coronary lesion severity was evaluated by Gensini Score. GRACE risk stratification was performed at admission. Major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) were recorded during follow-up. Results A total of 766 patients, including 537 with unstable angina (UAP), 100 with myocardial infarction (MI), and 129 without CAD were included. The circulating Neu5Ac level was significantly higher in patients with MI (median [1QR]: 297[220, 374] ng/ml) than in those with UAP (227 [114, 312] ng/ml) or without CAD (207 [114, 276] ng/ml; both p < 0.001). Serum level of Neu5Ac was positively correlated with age, hypertension, serum uric acid, creatinine, MB isoform of creatine kinase (CK-MB), and Gensini score (all p < 0.05). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that a higher serum Neu5Ac was potentially associated with MI and high-risk GRACE stratification in ACS patients. Logistic analysis identified only elevated serum Neu5Ac as an independent predictor of MACEs in these patients (odds ratio [OR]: 1.003, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.002–1.005, p < 0.001). Conclusions Serum Neu5Ac is associated with myocardial injury, GRACE risk category, and prognosis in ACS patients.

Resumen
Abstract Background The aim of the current study is to assess the natural history and prognostic value of elevated left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) after reperfusion with thrombolysis; we utilize data from the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) II study. Methods A total of 3339 patients were randomized to either an invasive (n = 1681) or a conservative (n = 1658) strategy in the TIMI II study following thrombolysis. To make the current cohort as relevant as possible to modern pharmaco-invasively managed cohorts, patients in the invasive arm with TIMI flow grade ≥ 2 (N = 1201) at initial catheterization are included in the analysis. Of these, 259 patients had a second catheterization prior to hospital discharge, and these were used to define the natural history of LVEDP in reperfused STEMI. Results The median LVEDP for the whole cohort was 18 mmHg (IQR: 12–23). Patients were divided into quartiles by LVEDP measured during the first cardiac catheterization. During a median follow up of 3 (IQR: 2.1–3.2) years, quartile 4 (highest LVEDP) had the highest incidence of mortality and heart failure admissions. In the cohort with paired catheterization data, the LVEDP dropped slightly from 18 mmHg (1QR: 12–22) to 15 mmHg (IQR: 10–20) (p = 0.01) from the first to the pre-hospital discharge catheterization. Conclusions LVEDP remains largely stable during hospitalisation post-STEMI. Elevated LVEDP is a predictor of death and heart failure hospitalization in STEMI patients undergoing successful thrombolysis. Graphic abstract

Resumen
Abstract Background Growth and differentiation factor (GDF)-11 controls embryonic development and has been proposed as an anti-aging factor. GDF-8 (myostatin) inhibits skeletal muscle growth. Difficulties in accurately measuring circulating GDF-11 and GDF-8 have generated controversy. Methods We developed a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for simultaneous measurement of circulating GDF-8 and GDF-11 that employs denaturation, reduction and alkylation; cation-exchange solid-phase extraction; tryptic digestion; followed by separation and quantification using two signature peptides for MRM and C-terminal [ 13C6 15N4]-Arg peptides as internal standards. We evaluated age trends in serum GDF-11 and GDF-8 concentrations in community-dwelling healthy men, 19 years or older and determined the effects of graded testosterone doses on GDF-8 and GDF-11 concentrations in healthy men in a randomized trial. Results The assay demonstrated linearity over a wide range, lower limit of quantitation 0.5 ng/mL for both proteins, and excellent precision, accuracy, and specificity (no detectable cross-reactivity of GDF-8 in GDF-11 assay or of GDF-11 in GDF-8 assay). Mean±SD (median±1QR) GDF-8 and GDF-11 levels in healthy community-dwelling men, 19 years and older, were 7.2±1.9 (6.8±1.4) ng/mL. Neither GDF-8 nor GDF-11 levels were related to age or body composition. Testosterone treatment significantly increased serum GDF-8 but not GDF-11 levels. Conclusions The LC-MS/MS method for the simultaneous measurement of circulating total GDF-8 and GDF-11 demonstrates the characteristics of a valid assay. Testosterone treatment increased GDF-8 levels, but not GDF-11. Increase in GDF-8 levels by testosterone treatment which increased muscle mass, suggests that GDF-8 acts as a chalone to restrain muscle growth.
