Background. Pressure injuries are the most prevalent health problem worldwide. Improving the quality of hospital pressure injury management is an important indicator to improve the quality of hospital management. Objective. To explore the application value of the management model centered on the concept of “zero tolerance” in the management of pressure ulcers (PU). Methods. The effects of conventional management mode and management mode centered on the concept of “zero tolerance” on PU patients and nursing staff were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were evaluated by the general comfort questionnaire (GCQ), Generic Quality of Life Inventory 74 (GQOL-74), and pressure ulcer healing scale (PUSH). At the same time, the satisfaction of PU patients and nursing staff with different management modes was investigated. Results. When comparing the conditions of patients under different management modes, it was found that the “zero tolerance” management mode can improve the comfort and quality of life of patients during hospitalization. Compared with the conventional management mode, the “zero tolerance” management mode can significantly improve the degree of pressure ulcer healing in patients. In addition, the “zero tolerance” management model can not only improve the satisfaction of patients with management but also improve the satisfaction of nursing staff with management. Conclusion. Standardized management of PU patients with the concept of “zero tolerance” as the core can improve the health status and quality of life of patients, promote wound healing, and improve the satisfaction of patients and nurses with the management plan.

Abstract Ever since its first proposal in 1976, Jackiw-Rebbi zero-mode has been drawing extensive attention for its charming properties including charge fractionalization, topologically protected zero-energy and possible non-Abelian statistics. We investigate these properties through the Jackiw-Rebbi zero-modes in quantum spin Hall insulators. Though charge fractionalization is not manifested, Jackiw-Rebbi zero-mode's zero-energy nature leads to a double-frequency Aharonov-Bohm effect, implying that it can be viewed as a special case of Majorana zero-mode without particle-hole symmetry. Such relation is strengthened for Jackiw-Rebbi zero-modes also exhibiting non-Abelian properties in the absence of superconductivity. Furthermore, in the condition that the degeneracy of Jackiw-Rebbi zero-modes is lifted, we demonstrate a novel non-Abelian braiding with continuously tunable fusion rule, which is a generalization of Majorana zero-modes’ braiding properties.

The symmetric zero-frequency mode induced by weak material nonlinearity during Lamb wave propagation is explored for the first time. We theoretically confirm that, unlike the second harmonic, phase-velocity matching is not required to generate the zero-frequency mode and its signal is stronger than those of the nonlinear harmonics conventionally used, for example, the second harmonic. Experimental and numerical verifications of this theoretical analysis are conducted for the primary S0 mode wave propagating in an aluminum plate. The existence of a symmetric zero-frequency mode is of great significance, probably triggering a revolutionary progress in the field of non-destructive evaluation and structural health monitoring of the early-stage material nonlinearity based on the ultrasonic Lamb waves.

Abstract:
Ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) is a noise-assisted adaptive data analysis method to solve the problem of mode mixing caused by empirical mode decomposition (EMD). It is shown that the decomposition error tends to zero, as ensemble number increases to infinity in EEMD. In this paper, a novel EEMD-based ridge regression model (REEMD) is proposed, which solves the problem of mode mixing and achieves less decomposition error compared with the EEMD. When the ensemble number is small, the weights of outliers are constraint to zero to reduce the decomposition error in REEMD and the result of REEMD is asymptotic to that of EEMD, as the ensemble number increases. The proposed REEMD is suitable for tissue clutter rejection in color flow imaging system. Simulation shows that reasonable flow-frequency estimations can be achieved by REEMD and the estimation error limits to zero, as the flow frequency increases.

Abstract:
For 2D string theory, the perturbative S-matrices are not well-defined due to a zero mode divergence. Although there exist formal procedures to make the integral convergent, their physical meanings are not clear. We describe a method to obtain finite S-matrices physically to justify the formal schemes. The scheme uses asymptotic states by wave packets which fall faster than exponentials. It is shown that the scheme gives well-defined S-matrices and justifies the formal shifted Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude for simple processes. The tree-level unitarity for these processes is also shown. We point out a problem in this scheme.

Abstract We consider a free-fermion chain with a conformal defect that features an extended zero mode, and study the entanglement properties in its mixed ground state. The zero-mode induced degeneracy modifies the density of states in the single-particle entanglement spectrum, which can be calculated via the full counting statistics. For a homogeneous chain, the resulting change in the Rényi entropy is derived analytically for arbitrary subsystem ratios in the thermodynamic limit. For a conformal defect located in the center, analogous results can be obtained for the half-chain entanglement. In particular, we observe parity effects for half-chains with even/odd sites, which do not decay with size.

In recent years, the application prospects of high-precision MEMS gyroscopes have been shown to be very broad, but the large temperature drift of MEMS gyroscopes limits their application in complex temperature environments. In response to this, we propose a method that combines mode reversal and real-time multiple regression compensation to compensate for the temperature drift of gyroscope bias. This method has strong adaptability to the environment, low computational cost, the algorithm is online in real time, and the compensation effect is good. The experimental results show that under the temperature cycle of −20~20 °C and the temperature change rate of 4 °C/min, the method proposed in this paper can reduce the zero-bias stability from about 27.8°/h to 0.4527°/h, and the zero-bias variation is reduced from 65.88°/h to 1.43°/h. This method improves the zero-bias stability of the gyroscope 61-fold and the zero-bias variation 46-fold. Further, the method can effectively suppress the zero-bias drift caused by the heating of the gyroscope during the start-up phase of the gyroscope. The zero-bias stability of the gyroscope can reach 0.0697°/h within 45 min of starting up, and the zero-bias repeatability from 0 to 5 min after startup is reduced from 0.629°/h to 0.095°/h.

Bogoliubov–de Gennes equations (BdGEs) for collective excitations from a trapped Bose–Einstein condensate described by a spatially smooth ground-state wavefunction can be treated analytically. A new class of closed solutions for the BdGEs is obtained for the one-dimensional (1D) and 3D spherically harmonic traps. The solutions of zero-energy mode of the BdGEs are also provided. The eigenfunctions of the excitations consist of zero-energy mode, zero-quantum-number mode and entire excitation modes when the approximate ground state is a background Bose gas sea.

Millimeter wave (mmWave) antennas for 5G communication require wide bandwidth, directional radiation patterns, low-profile design and multi-layer compatibility for module-level integration. In this paper, we introduce a method of loading shorting pins to a patch antenna to generate extra zero-modes. By merging the 2nd zero-mode, TM01 mode, 3rd zero-mode and TM20 mode in the frequency spectrum, a wide bandwidth varying from 23 to 34 GHz (relative bandwidth of 38.6%) and with a low-profile of 0.762 mm (0.07λ0, where λ0 is the wavelength at a middle frequency of 28.5 GHz) can be obtained. Based on this wideband patch antenna, a 4 × 2 antenna array is obtained with the ±40° scanning performance. Theoretical analysis, full-wave simulations and experimental performances are presented, validating the effectiveness of this method to achieve a wideband performance in a mmWave band. It can be applied to 5G communication systems using mmWave bands.

Motivated by the unexpected appearance of shear horizontal Rayleigh surface waves, we investigate the mechanics of antiplane wave reflection and propagation in couple stress (CS) elastic materials. Surface waves arise by mode conversion at a free surface, whereby bulk travelling waves trigger inhomogeneous modes. Indeed, Rayleigh waves are perturbations of the travelling mode and stem from its reflection at grazing incidence. As is well known, they correspond to the real zeros of the Rayleigh function. Interestingly, we show that the same generating mechanism sustains a new inhomogeneous wave, corresponding to a purely imaginary zero of the Rayleigh function. This wave emerges from ‘reflection’ of a bulk standing mode: This produces a new type of Rayleigh-like wave that travels away from , as opposed to along, the free surface, with a speed lower than that of bulk shear waves. Besides, a third complex zero of the Rayleigh function may exist, which represents waves attenuating/exploding both along and away from the surface. Since none of these zeros correspond to leaky waves, a new classification of the Rayleigh zeros is proposed. Furthermore, we extend to CS elasticity Mindlin’s boundary conditions, by which partial waves are identified, whose interference lends Rayleigh–Lamb guided waves. Finally, asymptotic analysis in the thin-plate limit provides equivalent one-dimensional models.

Zero-mode waveguides (ZMWs) are widely used in single molecule fluorescence microscopy for their enhancement of emitted light and the ability to study samples at physiological concentrations. ZMWs are typically produced using photo or electron beam lithography. We report a new method of ZMW production using focused ion beam (FIB) milling with gold ions. We demonstrate that ion-milled gold ZMWs with 200 nm apertures exhibit similar plasmon-enhanced fluorescence seen with ZMWs fabricated with traditional techniques such as electron beam lithography.

The transformation to zero offset (TZO) of prestack seismic data for a constant‐velocity medium is well understood and is readily implemented when dealing with either P‐waves or S‐waves. TZO is achieved by inserting a dip moveout (DMO) process to correct data for the influence of dip, either before or after normal moveout (NMO) correction (Hale, 1984; Forel and Gardner, 1988). The TZO process transforms prestack seismic data in such a way that common‐midpoint (CMP) gathers are closer to being common reflection point gathers after the transformation.

The sailing efficiency of an underwater glider, an important type of marine environment detection and data collection equipment, directly affects its range and duration. The zero-angle-of-attack gliding can be achieved by adjusting the wing installation angle to minimize the drag and improve the sailing efficiency, and thus further improving performance of the glider. This paper first presents the dynamic characteristics of a hybrid-driven underwater glider with a certain wing installation angle when it is sailing at zero angle of attack in buoyancy-driven mode and hybrid-driven mode. In buoyancy-driven mode, with a given wing installation angle, the glider can achieve zero-angle-of-attack gliding only at a specific glide angle. In hybrid-driven mode, due to the use of a propulsion system, the specific glide angle that allows the zero-angle-of-attack gliding in buoyancy-driven mode is expanded to a glide angle range bounded by zero degrees. Then, the energy consumption per meter is introduced as an indicator of sailing efficiency, and the effects of glide angle and wing installation angle on sailing efficiency of the zero-angle-of-attack glider in two driving modes are studied under the conditions of given net buoyancy and given speed, respectively. Accordingly, the optimal wing installation angle for maximizing the sailing efficiency is proposed. Theoretical analysis shows that the sailing efficiency of a zero-angle-of-attack glider can be higher than that of a traditional glider. Considering the requirements of different measurement tasks, a higher sailing efficiency can be achieved by setting reasonable parameters and selecting the appropriate driving mode.

Further considering the parameter differences, the zero-mode inrush current of T-Hin is larger, which tends to cause the misoperation. The mathematical waveforms fit well with the recorded waveforms. Both recorded waveforms and mathematical waveforms in various conditions prove that the second harmonic ratio (the ratio between the second harmonic and first harmonic) of zero-mode inrush current is significant. Based on the above analysis, a criterion based on the second harmonic ratio restraint of zero-mode inrush current is proposed. If the second harmonic ratio exceeds the setting value, it is considered that the inrush current is generated and sends a signal to restrain the protection. The theoretical setting value of the proposed criterion and the practical engineering method for determining the setting value are obtained.

Instability of an adaptive flux observer (AFO) in the regenerating mode at low frequencies is a great challenge of sensorless induction motor (SIM) drives. Zero observer feedback gains (OFGs) in the regenerating mode at low frequencies are the main reasons for moving the dominant zero of the speed estimators to the unstable region. OFGs should be appropriately selected to transfer the unstable dominant zero to the stable region. In this paper, genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques were used to design the OFGs for a stable observer. A fair comparison of the dominant zero location between the two approaches using the optimized OFGs is presented under parameter deviation. Analytical results and the design procedure of the OFGs using the two approaches are presented under deviations of stator resistance and mutual inductance to guarantee a stable dominant zero in the regenerating mode of IM. The dominant zeros obtained by PSO had a superior location to that obtained by GA for both stator resistance and mutual inductance deviations. It was observed that one of the gains had an almost constant value over a wide range of parameter deviations. However, the value of the other gain was dependent on the deviation of machine parameters. The advantage of using PSO over GA is that the relation between the gain and parameter deviation can be represented by a deterministic and mostly linear relationship. Simulation and experimental work of the SIM drive are presented and evaluated under the optimized OFGs.

Distributed delays have proved beneficial in eliminating vibrations in higher frequency ranges compared to the modeled frequency, but not in improving the robustness against the modeled frequency to modeling errors. In this paper, the extra-insensitive shaper with distributed delays is proposed to improve robustness and efficiency for systems with a large variation of modal frequencies. The extra-insensitive shaper with distributed delays is derived by distributing two zeros in the radial direction of the designed zero of the distributed zero-vibration shaper. Two methods of distributing zeros are provided to parameterize the extra-insensitive shaper with distributed delays. Asymmetric extra-insensitive shaper with distributed delays and symmetric extra-insensitive shaper with distributed delays are two types of the extra-insensitive shaper with distributed delays parameterized by the asymmetric distribution method and the symmetric distribution method. Properties of the Asymmetric extra-insensitive shaper with distributed delays and the symmetric extra-insensitive shaper with distributed delays in spectral, sensitivity and step response are analyzed and compared with those of the classical extra-insensitive shaper and distributed zero-vibration-derivative shaper. The results present larger robustness in variations of modeled and higher frequencies, suppressing the vibration of the modeled mode and unmodeled higher multiple modes to a tolerable level. The implement in the time-varying double-pendulum crane verifies the effectivity for vibration suppress of multi-mode systems.

Abstract Coastal sea level variation around Antarctica is characterized by a coherent (circumpolarly in-phase) fluctuation, correlated with the Antarctic Oscillation (AAO). This study addresses the dynamics of the wind-driven sea level variation around Antarctica. A realistic barotropic numerical model reproduced well the observed sea level around Antarctica. From numerical model experiments, the authors demonstrate that the forcing responsible for the coastal sea level is the wind stress at the coastal boundary. Both the dominant coherent signal and westward propagating signals are identified in the model, and these signals are trapped over the shelf and slope around Antarctica. As a mechanism of these trapped signals, the authors consider analytical solutions of the oceanic response to alongshore wind stress over the shelf and slope in the circumpolar domain. In these solutions, besides the shelf wave mode, a wavenumber-zero mode appears and characterizes the coastal dynamics around Antarctica. At periods from 10 to 200 days, the coherent sea level can be explained quantitatively by the solution of this wavenumber-zero mode with a 5–10-day damping time scale. The spectral peaks of the westward propagating signals can be explained by the resonance of the shelf wave mode. The wavenumber-zero mode can respond to the wavenumber-zero forcing at any frequency and the degree of response increases with decreasing frequency. In addition, the wavenumber-zero component of wind stress, corresponding to the AAO variation, is a dominant forcing. Therefore, the coherent sea level variation around Antarctica is preferably generated and becomes a dominant feature in the circumpolar domain, particularly at lower frequencies.

We discuss cosmology in the context of Liouville strings, characterized by a central-charge deficit Q2, in which target time is identified with (the worldsheet zero mode of the) Liouville field: Q-Cosmology. We use a specific example of colliding braneworlds to illustrate the phase diagram of this cosmological framework. The collision provides the necessary initial cosmological instability, expressed as a departure from conformal invariance in the underlying string model. The brane motion provides a way of breaking target-space supersymmetry, and leads to various phases of the brane and bulk Universes. Specifically, we find a hot metastable phase for the bulk string Universe soon after the brane collision in which supersymmetry is broken, which we describe by means of a subcritical worldsheet σ-model dressed by a spacelike Liouville field, representing finite temperature (Euclidean time). This phase is followed by an inflationary phase for the brane Universe, in which the bulk string excitations are cold. This is described by a super-critical Liouville string with a timelike Liouville mode, whose zero mode is identified with the Minkowski target time. Finally, we speculate on possible ways of exiting the inflationary phase, either by means of subsequent collisions or by deceleration of the brane Universe due to closed-string radiation from the brane to the bulk. While phase transitions from hot to cold configurations occur in the bulk string universe, stringy excitations attached to the braneworld remain thermalized throughout, at a temperature which can be relatively high. The late-time behavior of the model results in dilaton-dominated dark energy and present-day acceleration of the expansion of the Universe, asymptoting eventually to zero.

The zero-bias current controlled way is proposed to cut down the power consumption of the active magnetic bearing in a power magnetically levitated spindle system. The zero-bias current controlled way is easier to realize than the zero-bias flux controlled way, since current can be detected directly, while flux is hard to be measured in practice. Besides, the active magnetic bearing suffers from lumped uncertainty including parameter uncertainty and external load, and the displacement of rotor caused by lumped uncertainty is undesirable. In practice, the upper bound of the lumped uncertainty especially the external load is hard to obtain, making it hard to choose parameters for a traditional sliding mode control. The adaptive backstepping sliding mode control method combining both the advantages of sliding mode procedure and backstepping procedure is proposed to solve this problem. Furthermore, the upper bound of lumped uncertainty is estimated in real time by an adaptive law. In this paper, first a new zero-bias current active magnetic bearing system model with lumped uncertainty is built; then two controllers based on the sliding mode control and adaptive backstepping sliding mode control methods are designed, respectively, and the stability analyses are given for the two controllers via Lyapunov function; finally, the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive backstepping sliding mode control approach for a zero-bias current active magnetic bearing system is verified by the simulation and experiment results.

In a warped 6D world with an extra two-dimensional sphere, we propose an exactly solvable model for fermion masses with zero mode. The warp factor is given by ϕ(θ, φ) = sin θ cos φ, which is a solution to the 6D Einstein equation with the bulk cosmological constant Λ and the energy–momentum tensor of the bulk matter fields. Our model provides another possibility of obtaining fermion zero mode, rather than traditional model based on Dirac's monopole.

The three-phase H7 inverter topology installs an additional power semiconductor switch to the positive or negative node of the DC-link for reducing the common-mode voltage (CMV) by disconnecting the inverter from the DC source during the zero-voltage vectors. The conventional CMV reduction method for the three-phase H7 inverter uses modified discontinuous pulse width modulation (MDPWM) and generates a switching signal for the additional switch using logical operations. However, the conventional method is unable to eliminate the CMV for the entire dwell time of the zero-voltage vectors. It only has the effect of reducing the CMV in a limited area of the space vector where the V7 zero voltage vector is applied. Therefore, this paper proposes an optimized modulation method that can reduce the CMV during the entire dwell time of zero-voltage vectors. The proposed method moves the switching patterns by adding an offset voltage to guarantee that only one kind of zero-voltage vector, V7, is applied in the system. It then turns off the seventh switch only during the zero-voltage vector to disconnect the inverter from the DC source. As a result, the CMV and the leakage current are attenuated for the entire dwell time of the zero-voltage vector. Simulation and experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed method.

We investigate the effect of three types of intrinsic disorder, including that in pairing energy, chemical potential, and hopping amplitude, on the transport properties through the superconducting nanowires with Majorana bound states (MBSs). The conductance and the noise Fano factor are calculated based on a tight-binding model by adopting a non-equilibrium Green’s function method. It is found that the disorder can effectively lead to a reduction in the conductance peak spacings and significantly suppress the peak height. Remarkably, for a longer nanowire, the zero-bias peak could be reproduced by weak disorder for a finite Majorana energy splitting. It is interesting that the shot noise provides a signature to discriminate whether the zero-bias peak is induced by Majorana zero mode or disorder. For Majorana zero mode, the noise Fano factor approaches zero in the low bias voltage limit due to the resonant Andreev tunneling. However, the Fano factor is finite in the case of a disorder-induced zero-bias peak.

We study fermionic zero modes in the background of self-dual vortex on a two-dimensional non-compact extra space in 5+1 dimensions. In the Abelian Higgs model, we present a unified description of the topological and non-topological self-dual vortex on the extra two dimensions. Based on it, we study the localization of bulk fermions on a brane with the inclusion of Yang–Mills and gravity backgrounds in six dimensions. Through two simple cases, it is shown that the vortex background contributes a phase shift to the fermionic zero mode, this phase is actually origin from the Aharonov–Bohm effect.

This paper experimentally demonstrates a mode localization sensing approach using a single two-axis orthogonal resonator. The resonator consists of concentric multi-rings connected by elliptic springs that enable two orthogonal oscillation modes. By electrostatically tuning the anisotropic stiffness between the two axes, the effective coupling stiffness between the modes can be precisely controlled down to near-zero values. This allows the sensitivity of mode localization sensing to be tuned over a wide range. An order of magnitude enhancement in sensitivity is experimentally achieved by reducing the coupling stiffness towards zero. The resonator’s simple single-mass structure offers advantages over conventional coupled resonator designs for compact, tunable mode localization sensors. Both positive and negative values of coupling stiffness are demonstrated, enabling maximum sensitivity at the point where coupling crosses through zero. A method for decomposing overlapping resonance peaks is introduced to accurately measure the amplitude ratios of the localized modes even at high sensitivities. The electrostatic tuning approach provides a new option for realizing variable sensitivity mode localization devices using a simplified resonator geometry.

The purpose of work is to investigate two - phase short-circuiting modes of new autotransformer FACT’s - type device and is intended for power systems flexible connection. The developed mathematical model contains the main phase-shifting and additional regulating autotransformers. The model allows studying of asymmetrical modes of such schemes, including the un-identical load connection in different phases of phase-shifting transformers. Visual vector diagrams of winding’s voltages, currents and relative magnetic fluxes of magnetic core legs for main and regulating autotransformers for the modes with two-phase short-circuiting with and without ground have been elaborated. It is shown that significant distortions of the polygon shape occurred. It is revealed that in two-phase short - circuiting mode without ground, and the loads identically connected in different phases, the relative magnetic fluxes of the legs of main and regulating autotransformers are asymmetrical, but their sum is zero, and the magnetic flux does not come out into surrounding space. Load currents in this mode contain only direct and reverse sequences components. When the load is un-identically connected in different phases, significant zero-sequence currents occur, and magnetic flux goes out into surrounding space. However, load currents do not contain symmetrical components of zero sequence. A similar analysis of two-phase short circuit modes with ground showed that even with the identical connection of the loads, there is zero sequence both in the magnetic fluxes and in the load currents. Moreover, zero sequence is present when the load is connected differently on the phases.
