Abstract:
AbstractStudy Objectives:To provide a descriptive analysis of the prehospital emergency medical transportation system operating in and around a major Bosnian city, and to discuss the effect of the war on that transportation system.Design:A prospective, consecutive sample study.Setting:The largest tertiary-care referral hospital currently operating in central Bosnia.Participants:158 consecutive patients who sought care in the trauma and medical receiving rooms at Zenica Hospital.Method and Measurements:Patients were surveyed as to time of transportation to the site of first medical care and to Zenica Hospital, and modes of transportation used. Results:Time to transport to first care within the city of Zenica is 30±21 minutes. Time to transport to Zenica Hospital from within Zenica is 51±39 minutes. Time to transport to first care outside of Zenica is 77±56 minutes. Time to transport to Zenica Hospital from outside the city of Zenica is 178±94 minutes. The prehospital emergency medical service was used in 11.7% of cases reviewed. Conclusion:The majority of patients with major injury and illness are unable to obtain prehospital transportation and medical care through informal modes of transportation. The existing prehospital emergency medical services system is inadequate for the numbers of patients requiring such services, and transportation time from outside the city of study is especially prolonged.

Abstract:
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is the largest single environmental risk to public health. According to the latest estimate of this organization, 9 out of 10 people on the planet breathe polluted air. The development of industry in the relatively small Zenica valley reflected on air quality in the city of Zenica. The problem of high air pollution due to emissions of pollutants from industrial sources, traffic, and individual furnaces, burning of environmentally unsuitable fuels containing high sulfur and ash content has been present in the City of Zenica for a long time. In addition, the low wind speed during the year, which ranges up to 1.5 m/s, with unfavorable temperature inversions, causes the concentrations of pollutants in the air to reach alarmingly high values in a short period. In the wider area of the City of Zenica, air quality has been monitored since 1978 in the network of stationary stations. The paper presents results of air quality monitoring which are analyzed at the Institute Kemal Kapetanovic in Zenica for the sampling period from 01.01.2019. to 31.12.2020. years. Air quality monitoring included sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and particulate matter (PM10) at three locations in the wider area of the city of Zenica. In the wider area of the City of Zenica, air quality has been monitored since 1978 in the network of stationary stations. The paper presents the processed results of air quality monitoring which are analyzed at the Institute Kemal Kapetanovic in Zenica for the sampling period from 01.01.2019 to 31.12.2020. The measured concentrations of pollutants in the ambient air indicate that during the heating season, i.e. the winter months, the air quality in the urban and suburban areas of the city of Zenica is very poor. The data show that the highest hourly concentration of sulfur dioxide was recorded in December at the measuring station AMS Tetovo in the amount of 1100.59 µg/m3, which is located in the settlement next to the metallurgical facilities of the industrial zone Zenica.

Abstract:
The city of Zenica belongs to one of the most important industrial centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to the presence of industrial plants, especially metallurgical plants, but also due to a large number of small home fireplaces and the geographical location, air pollution in the Zenica valley is very high. Through continuous and dedicated air quality measurement, excessive air pollution was determined in the urban area of Zenica, i.e. limit values for total sediment dust were exceeded in some parts of the Zenica valley. The paper provides an analysis of the results of monitoring the total sediment dust and the content of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, zinc, and iron in the total sediment dust for the period 2019-2021to determine the environmental burden and the average annual and maximum monthly trends of the total sediment dust in the Zenica valley. The analysis shows that emissions originating from industrial sources significantly burden the environment with sediment dust, especially in the zone up to about 3.5 km from the sources located in the industrial zone of the Zenica valley.

Abstract:
The paper present results of the investigations on the prehistoric sites in the vicinity of the city of Zenica conducted during 2018 and 2019. Based on the cooperation between the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and City Museum of Zenica we applied geophysical prospection, air-borne laser scanning and excavations in order to get a better understanding of the Bronze and Iron Age developments in this specific part of the central Bosnia along the Bosna River. This research is emebeded within the project “Visualizing the unknown Balkans, supported by the Innovation Fond of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.Apart from previously known and to smaller extent excavated hillfort Kopilo, our work also focused on the sites situated on the ridge above Gradišće in the northern part of the Zenica Basin. What appears to be indicative of this micro-region are high attitudes (600-900 m a.s.l.) of the identified Bronze and Iron Ages settlements in comparison to the situation in the neighboring valleys and basins of the central Bosnia. Such position provided mutual visual contact between the sites and an excellent control of the entry and exit from the Zenica Basin. Our work also brought evidences of prehistoric stone mounds on the ridge above Gradišče. The numerous archeological finds indicatate the importance and a long continuity of the hillforts such as Kopilo that obviuolsy lasted unti the advanced La Téne Period.

Abstract:
This article explores a recent successful threat of industrial action at the ArcelorMittal steel plant at Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Building in interviews with trade unions leaders, the author locates the campaign against the background of the economic, political and social situation in the country as well as the difficulties these impose on effective trade union organisation which, with certain exceptions, exists at a low level particularly in the private sector. Other aspects also make trade unions unattractive, not least to young people. Consequently, examples of industrial action which are successful are not only are of practical assistance in raising the wages of the workers involved, they also provide powerful examples of the continuing logic of collective action and, thus, a strong motivation to seek out trade union membership. Furthermore, in a country beset by the political problems that Bosnia and Herzegovina has, examples of strike action - of workers simply getting on with their everyday normal lives - also act to reassert what is most important by documenting citizens in their lives as workers not as ethnicities.

Abstract:
Concentration of Lead, Cadmium, and Iron in Sediment Dust and Total Suspended Particles Before and After Initialisation of Integral Production in Iron and Steel Work Plant ZenicaPoor air quality is a common fact for all areas with base industry. The city of Zenica was once the metallurgical centre of Ex-Yugoslavia and is therefore highly polluted at present. Air pollution peaked in 1987 when average concentration of pollutants was extremely high (daily average concentration of SO2 was 1800 μg m-3). With the beginning of the war in 1992, integral production in the steel work plant was shut down, to be re-launched in 2008. Limit values for iron do not exist, but iron has been monitored in Zenica for the past 28 years because of the presence of steel works. Concentrations of cadmium and lead have also been measured because they are very much present in polluted areas with steel works. The concentration of mentioned elements in air deposit and total suspended particles before and after integral production in the steel work plant was re-launched is the subject of this paper. Total suspended particles were measured in two locations using German standard VDI 2463 Blatt 4. Sediment dust was measured in nine locations using Bergerhoff method. The concentration of iron, lead, and cadmium was performed in the chemical laboratory of the Metallurgical Institute "Kemal Kapetanović" Zenica using standard methods. Higher concentrations of these parameters during the period of integral production clearly point to the impact of steel works on Zenica valley.

Abstract:
During the execution of works on the construction of the tunnel Zenica, there is a certain number of activities that can cause negative consequences for the environment. In this regard, the greatest danger is represented by the technological operations of works such as: mechanical excavation, blasting, deep excavations, destruction, and removal of the natural covering layer. Also, construction machines pose a potential danger from spills or accidental spills of oil and oil derivatives, discarding of motor oils and similar waste. Uncontrolled depositing of excavated material, and a plateau for parking machinery near surface and underground water can cause negative consequences for the environment. In this paper, an assessment of the primary environmental pollutants during the excavation of the tunnel Zenica was carried out, i.e., dust and wastewater emissions during construction.

Abstract:
We present a case of peripheral facial palsy developing after the first dose of AZD1222, Astra Zeneca`s COVID-19 vaccine. A 31- year-old female received her first dose of AZD1222 vaccine against COVID-19. Later the same day, she developed swelling around her neck and head. The next day, she woke up with hanging eyelid, hanging mouth and loss of sensibility on the left side of her face- indications of peripheral facial paralysis. She later on developed hyperesthesia on the upper extremities. Before vaccination, the patient was healthy and had no history of neurological disease. She fully recovered from the paresis after 2-3 days. Five months after she received her first and only dose of the vaccine, she still complains of severe hyperesthesia in her upper extremities. There have been several international case reports of Bell´s palsy after COVID-19- vaccination, but Bell´s palsy is not yet a confirmed adverse effect of any COVID-19 vaccine. The aim of this case report is to raise awareness about Bell´s palsy as a possible adverse effect of Astra Zeneca´s COVID-19 vaccine.

Abstract:
Insights into relevant scientific theoretical sources have indicated the existence of educational values of musical content, since it evokes emotions, and various emotions stimulate different thoughts, reactions and behavior. Furthermore, it has been concluded that music education presents an important part of overall esthetic and artistic education, and it impacts the overall affective, social, cognitive and psychomotor development of a person. The aim of this paper was to find out through a comparative analysis whether there is a difference in the educational values promoted by sevdalinka and turbo folk music. We assumed that young people listen more to turbo-folk music, and older to sevdalinka, and that sevdalinka promotes and turbo folk does not promote educational values. We used a method of theoretical analysis and a descriptive-analytical survey method, while we collected data using a survey. A Questionnaire on general data and a Questionnaire on the values of sevdalinka and turbo-folk music were used as the instruments. The research sample comprised 200 participants: 50 high school students from Sarajevo and Zenica-Doboj Canton, 50 university students from Sarajevo and Zenica-Doboj Canton, 50 people aged 35 to 60 years, and 50 people older than 60. The results showed that younger people listen to turbo-folk music more, while older people listen to sevdalinka more, and that sevdalinka promotes educational values and turbo-folk does not. Moreover, the findings indicated that the greatest number of the participants consider that the musical quality of sevdalinka is significant, that their lyrics are educational, and that they promote educational values, that their content is meaningful and of great quality, that sevdalinka affects feelings and behavior positively, while listening to it improves one’s mood. Keywords: sevdalinka, turbo-folk, educational values, music education, musical quality.

Abstract:
Based on archival material and relevant literature, this text analyses and presents the activities of the labour movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first years after the end of the First World War. During this period, the struggle for workers'rights, mostly through strike actions, resulted, among other things, in an increase in wages, the introduction of eight-hour working days in most companies, the exercise of the right to elect workers' commissioners and trade unions. The workers managed to get other benefits related to the economic position of the workers, such as retail co-operatives, apartments, assistance in purchasing work suits, etc. Workers' representatives fought for a radically better position and a new place in society. In addition to eight-hour working days, higher wages and other demands to improve the material position of workers, strikes against the political disenfranchisement of workers were conducted during this period, as well as for political freedoms and democratisation of political life in the country. During 1919 and 1920, several strikes about pay were organised by miners, construction workers and metalworkers in the forest industry, catering workers and employees in Sarajevo, Tuzla, Bijeljina, Brčko, Zenica, Breza, Mostar, Zavidovići, Dobrljin, Lješljani, Maslovarama and Rogatica. It was part of over 125 strikes by workers in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the period of legal activity of the Socialist Labour Party of Yugoslavia (SLPY) (c), i.e. the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (CPY) and its close trade unions. At the initiative of the SLPY (c) and united syndicates, public political assemblies were organised in Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica, Mostar, Brčko, Derventa, Vareš and Drvar, at which demands were put forward to dissolve the authorities, and organise democratic elections for the Constituent Assembly and demobilise the army. The aggravation of the political situation in the first post-war years was noticeable in many local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In a number of cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there were physical confrontations between workers and security bodies of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. One such example occurred, in Zenica in mid-October 1920, when police banned the Communists' attempt to hold an assembly despite a previously imposed ban. On that occasion, the gathered mass of 2,500 workers refused to disperse and demanded that the assembly be held. After the police and the gendarmerie tried to disperse the gathered workers, there was open conflict. Workers threw stones at security officials, and they responded by firing firearms. The rally was eventually broken up, one worker was wounded and twelve workers were hurt during a clash with police. Owing to the increasing engagement of workers' representatives, the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina worsened. It was not uncommon to have open conflicts between workers and government officials. After the collapse of the Husino uprising, the position of workers deteriorated. Also, this paper discusses the impact of the revolutions in Eastern and Central Europe on the labour movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Abstract:
Background: Brucellosis is associated with people living in close proximity to their animals, where conditions for disease onset and spread exist. An epidemic of brucellosis in Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H) has persisted since 2004. Zenica-Doboj Canton is one of the most affected areas. Objective: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of human brucellosis from the year 2008 to2018. Methods: Data collected from paper-based patients/cases reported to the Epidemiology Department were analyzed. Results: After 2008, the annual number of patients diagnosed with brucellosis was decreasing, except in 2017 and 2018 with 20 and 35 cases, respectively. Within the 2008-2018 period, a total of 263 human brucellosis cases were recorded, decreasing from 102 (incidence of 44.7/100,000) cases in 2008 to three cases in 2012, but increased to 35 cases in 2018. Males were predominant, with a total of 205 (77.9%) cases. The mean age of the affected patients was 39.2 years; but the most affected age group was the 25-49 years age group with 117 (44.5%) cases. Most cases (151 cases, 66%) were reported during the period of March-July, and 242 (92%) cases were from the rural areas. Conclusion: With the implementation of the small ruminant vaccination program in 2009, the number of infected humans had declined, while brucellosis still remains.

Abstract:
Purpose. To analyze the acquired myopia (AM) development features from the perspective of the adaptation theory and to evaluate the effectiveness of its primary prevention in elementary school children using the optical kinesiotherapy (OKT) method with Zenica optical simulators sets (Zenica LLC, international patent number WO 95/31743). Material and methods. Acquired myopia can be considered as the result of passive adaptation of the visual system (VS) in case its operation is inadequate in near vision, according to the theory of adaptation. Therefore, the main goal of myopia preventive measures is to increase the visual system’s adaptive capabilities to adverse visual work conditions to the adequate level. 48 schoolchildren (96 eyes) with emmetropic refraction were observed during two academic years, starting from the first grade. There were 23 children in the main group who underwent 5 courses of OKT during the observation period. Preventive treatment was not carried out for children in the comparison group (25 children). Results. There was no change in refraction in the main group by the end of the two-year observation period, while myopic refraction increased in 8 (8%) eyes in the comparison group. Positive-relative accommodation (PRA) increased by an average of 3.5±0.36 D (p<0.001) in the main group as a result of treatment, while in the comparison group its values improved on average by only 1.2±0.48 D (p<0.001) as a result of the natural PRA development. The stability of visual perception (SVP) to hyperopic retinal defocus (HRD) increased by an average of 38%, and the width of the graph curves divergence increased by an average of 4.0 D as a result of the visual system adaptive resource correction using optical simulators in the main group. The SVP to HRD increased only by an average of 10%, and the width of the divergence of the graph’s curves increased only by 0.75 D in schoolchildren of the comparison group over the same period, due to the natural development of the visual system Conclusion. Correction of the adaptive resources of visual system in elementary school students by OKT helps increase adaptive resources to an adequate level during the educational process, which helps prevent the risks of myopia.

Abstract:
Paper goal is to determine complications after urgent surgical treatment of patient with penile fractures, by using circumferential-degloving technique (degloving penile skin to root of penis). In period between 1998-2006 year, 23 patients have been treated as urgent cases with clinically proven penis fracture, age between 18 and 35. Patients were treated in 3 medical centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina(Sarajevo, Tuzla and Zenica). All 23 (100%) patients were injured during sexual intercourse. In the case of 20 (86,9%) patients partial rupture of corpus cavernosum was verified. Two (8,6%) patients had a complete rupture of urethra and it was primary sutured. In 22 cases (95,6%) spontaneous erection appeared, and in the case of 2 (8,6%) patients penile curvature was verified. Urgent surgical treatment is the best therapy choice, which enables preservation of erection in great number of cases in patients with penile fracture.

Abstract:
This essay on the work of the Bosnian artist Mladen Miljanović, born in Zenica, Yugoslavia, in 1981, is wrought around an account of the divided place in which his art is mobilised. Following a short military term, Miljanović enrolled at the Academy of Arts, in Banja Luka, where he still lives. A potent opposition to a divisive ethno-nationalist politics ever-present in the post-conflict, post-socialist, transition era of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Miljanović deploys what he calls an artistic-military practice. Incorporating cartographic and military surveying techniques learnt at a reserve officer military school, Miljanović deconstructs his own soldierly past and interrogates, through his artistic-military practice, an ethno-nationalist militarised Bosnia-Herzegovina. I focus in the main here on the artist’s recent attempt to represent post-conflict Bosnia-Herzegovina at the 55th Biennale di Venezia, a granite triptych entitled, The Garden of Delights.

Abstract:
Benjamin Samokovlija (Sarajevo, 31.III.1918 - Skopje, 28.II.1996), comes from a Jewish family. On April 5, 1941 he was mobilized in the ranks of the army of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In the second half of August 1941, Benjamin joined the ranks of the National Liberation Army and the People's Liberation Army. He took part in numerous battles in the anti-fascist war for the liberation of Yugoslavia. After the Fourth Enemy Offensive of the Supreme Headquarters of the People's Liberation Army and Partisan Detachments of Yugoslavia which took place in the first half of 1943, Samokovlija together with part of his partisan unit were captured by the Germans and imprisoned in Zenica. After a month in the Zenica prison, a group of 600 prisoners, including Samokovlija, were transferred to the Thessaloniki concentration camp. In October 1943, through an EAM connection, Benjamin Samokovlija managed to escape and join ELAS. He remained in the ranks of the Greek partisans until the contact with the Macedonian partisans from the First Macedonian-Kosovo Brigade on the territory of the Aegean part of Macedonia in the period between the second half of December 1943 and January 1944. He was admitted to the III Battalion and was in charge of the agitprop of the battalion, from where he was later transferred to the ranks of the II, V and X brigades, acting as a battalion commissioner and participating in the battles for the liberation of Macedonia. At the very beginning of World War II in 1941, Benjamin Samokovlija lost many of his immediate family members, including his parents and wife. As direct witnesses to the measures taken for the physical and economic destruction of the Jews in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the German occupying authorities, their collaborators and the authorities of the Independent State of Croatia, his three sisters joined the People's Liberation War. His eldest sister Laura was killed in 1945. Benjamin Samokovlija is the holder of several military and state decorations. During his tenure, he ran a number of state-owned enterprises. It is particularly important to emphasize that for less than two decades he served as President of the Jewish community in the Republic of Macedonia, building strong friendly relations with other religious communities in the country.

Abstract:
The aim of this research was to establish the relationship between social support and juvenile delinquent behavior after the juvenile delinquents’ assessment of the quality of social support. The research was carried out employing a method of theoretical analysis and a descriptive-analytical survey method. A Social Support Scale (Abbey, Abramis and Caplan, 1985) and a Youth Self-Reported Delinquency and Risk Behaviors Questionnaire (Ručević, Ajduković and Šincek, 2009) were used as the research instruments. The research sample consisted of 205 juveniles from Zenica-Doboj Canton who had at least once committed a felony or misdemeanor. The research results suggested that juvenile delinquents receiving a higher level of social support are statistically significantly less likely to exhibit all forms of delinquent behaviors: misdemeanor and less serious forms of delinquency, undesirable normative behaviors, risky sexual behaviors, the use or abuse of psychoactive substances, violent behavior within close relationships, theft, burglary, robbery, suicidal and self-aggressive behaviors. It was concluded that strengthening the quality of social support contributes to the prevention of juvenile delinquent behavior.

Abstract:
Based on the analysis of the Islamic religious education textbooks, this research aimed to explore the nature of content with respect to its formative and informative character, as well as to investigate the teachers’ stances about the character of the ecology content in the elementary school textbooks of religious education. The starting assumption was that the research findings would show that the ecology content in elementary school textbooks of Islamic religious education is by its nature both formative and informative. We used a theoretical analysis method, a content analysis method, and a descriptive analytical survey method. The research corpus comprised Islamic religious education textbooks, and the sample consisted of 100 religious education teachers from Tuzla and Zenica. The findings related to the teachers’ stances showed that the majority of teachers consider that formative and informative ecology content is not sufficiently represented, but that the formative ecology content is present more. On the other hand, the results of the content analysis indicated that informative ecology content is more present than the formative content. Keywords: religious education, textbook, teaching content, informative and formative character.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this research was to determine to what extent different variables describe the style and way of life present within the student population in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this sense, in addition to general data on examinees, gender differences were identified, the assessment of parental dimensions of control and emotion, overall family circumstances, level of empathy, intercultural sensitivity, role models, preferences of lifestyles, everyday habits and resistance and (or) tendencies to depressive, anxiety states and stress. The survey included a sample of 457 examinees, students of undergraduate studies at the University of Zenica and the University of Sarajevo, with a total of 9 faculties and 10 departments covering technical, natural, social sciences and humanities. The obtained data give a broad picture of the everyday life of youth and confirm some previously theoretically and empirically justified theses about the connection of the family background of students, everyday habits, with the level of empathy, intercultural sensitivity and preferences of the role models and lifestyles of the examinees.
