We thank Dr Zecca and associates for their interest in our paper.1 Their concerns regarding possible cardiac side effects during steroid therapy in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants are quite appropriate and, we feel, further emphasize the benefits of an "early" (mean postnatal age, 9 to 10 days) and "short" (7 days) course of dexamethasone therapy for this group of infants at risk for long-term pulmonary morbidities. The prior studies they have referenced2-5 and another recent study6 applied longer courses of steroid therapy (up to 42 days) to infants with well-established chronic lung disease (CLD).

Abstract:
The lively, decades-long scholarly debate about the length that Jacopo Sansovino originally planned for his Libreria di San Marco in Venice (begun 1537) is the subject of A Window in the Venetian Mint and the Libreria di San Marco. Did Sansovino intend the building to have seventeen bays, or the present twenty-one? The question is important, because the Libreria plays a crucial role in the city's famous central urban space, Piazza San Marco. Eugene J. Johnson brings new evidence to the discussion, having discovered inside the Libreria a walled-up window that once opened into the east wall of the Sansovino's contemporaneous Venetian Mint, or Zecca. The window offers an opportunity to reconsider the arguments, and Johnson concludes that Sansovino had envisioned the longer, twenty-one bay building from the outset.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The objects of this study are eight X-Men: First Classcomic books, volume 1 published from September 2006 until April 2007 andX-Men: First Classmovie made in 2011.Texts in the forms of dialogues and visual images taken both from the comic books and the movie are the data which then are analysed qualitatively. Applying intersemiotic translation promoted by Zecca, this study is trying to uncover how social and economic factors influence translation process and whether there are any continuity and changes along the process. The study focuses on the social and economic aspects involved in the process of transforming X-Men: First Class comic books as the source text, into the movie version as the targeted texts. Some adaptation and changes occurred as the consequence; plot and story lines are twisted, characters involved are replaced for the purpose of meeting the expectation of the targeted market of the movie. Supported by those who were involved in the process and the social issues echoing at the time when the process is happening, the social issues depicted in the texts are also sifted.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the present article we develop the results of works devoted to the study of problems for functional differential equations and inclusions with causal operators, in case of infinite delay. In the introduction of the article we substantiates the relevance of the research topic and provides links to relevant works A. N. Tikhonov, C. Corduneanu, A. I. Bulgakov, E. S. Zhukovskii, V. V. Obukhovskii and P. Zecca. In section two we present the necessary information from the theory of condensing multivalued maps and measures of noncompactness, also introduced the concept of a multivalued causal operator with infinite delay and illustrated it by examples. In the next section we formulate the Cauchy problem for functional inclusion, containing the composition of multivalued and single-valued causal operators; we study the properties of the multiopera-tor whose fixed points are solutions of the problem. In particular, sufficient conditions under which this multioperator is condensing on the respective measures of noncompacness. On this basis, in section four we prove local and global results and continuous dependence of the solution set on initial data. Next the case of inclusions with lower semicontinuous causal multioperators is considered. In the last section we generalize some results for semilinear differential inclusions and Volterra integrodifferential inclusions with infinite delay.

Abstract:
No Beer?

Abstract:
On March 20, 2018, the Grand Chamber of the Court of Justice of the European Union delivered a trio of judgments that substantially clarify the application of the ne bis in idem principle where both criminal and administrative proceedings are pursued. Both the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (the Charter) and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) recognize the principle, but it will be more familiar to common law practitioners as the protection against double jeopardy. Increasingly, dual investigations are common in cases where the underlying activity is essentially financial crime, but tender areas continue to be information sharing and the risk of duplicate punishment where both investigations end in enforcement action. Concerning four cases, Case C-524/15 Menci, Case C-537/16 Garlsson Real Estate and Others, and joined Cases C-596/16 Di Puma and C-597/16 Zecca, each of the judgments addresses preliminary questions referred by the Italian courts; they are significant because they emphasize that ne bis in idem will not serve as a bar to a dual response. The interest in protecting the financial markets justifies limits to the principle but great care must be taken to coordinate the approaches and identify whether a further criminal sanction is masquerading as an administrative penalty.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Investigations were performed on the structural features responsible for kinetic thermal stability of a thermostable carboxypeptidase from the thermoacidophilic archaebacterium Sulfolobus solfataricus which had been purified previously and identified as a zinc metalloprotease [Colombo, D'Auria, Fusi, Zecca, Raia and Tortora (1992) Eur. J. Biochem. 206, 349-357]. Removal of Zn2+ by dialysis led to reversible activity loss, which was promptly restored by addition of 80 microM ZnCl2 to the assay mixture. For the first-order irreversible thermal inactivation the metal-depleted enzyme showed an activation energy value of 205.6 kJ.mol-1, which is considerably lower than that of the holoenzyme (494.4 kJ.mol-1). The values of activation free energies, enthalpies and entropies also dropped with metal removal. Thermal inactivation of the apoenzyme was very quick at 80 degrees C, whereas the holoenzyme was stable at the same temperature. These findings suggest a major stabilizing role for the bivalent cation. Chaotropic salts strongly destabilized the holoenzyme, showing that hydrophobic interactions are involved in maintaining the native conformation of the enzyme. However, the inactivation rate was also increased by sodium sulphate, acetate and chloride, which are not chaotropes, indicating that one or more salt bridges concur in stabilizing the active enzyme. Furthermore, at the extremes of the pH-stability curve, NaCl did not affect the inactivation rate, confirming the stabilizing role of intramolecular ionic bonds, as a pH-dependent decrease in stability is likely to occur from breaking of salt bridges involved in maintaining the native conformation of the protein.

Abstract:
Crustose coralline algae (CCA) occur from the tropics to the poles in photic benthic environments. Here, we report on some of the world’s southernmost and coldest CCA sites in Terra Nova, Ross Sea, Antarctica at 74°41′ S. The recently described red alga Tethysphytum antarticum is investigated for its skeletal architecture, its mineralogical and geochemical composition, as well as for its taxonomic classification. A phylogenetic analysis based on molecular genetics and the sequencing of the photosystem II protein D1 (psbA) gave a perfect match with T. antarcticum. Histological sections and micro-CT-scans provide new diagnostic details for the conceptacles (the reproductive organs of the alga). X-ray diffractometry and electron-microprobe measurements yielded a clear high-Mg calcite (~8 mol%) composition of the skeletal parts. Detailed back-scattered electron imaging of polished petrographic thin sections revealed a two-layered thallus (vegetative plant tissue), comprising an organic-rich irregularly calcified basal layer with rectangular cells, overlain by the main thallus. Elemental maps show relatively increased sulphur in the basal layer, clearly tied to organic cell walls. MgCO3 and SrCO3 were targeted with semiquantitative elemental mappings and in an ontogenetic quantitative spot transect. Compared with temperature (−1.95 °C to +1.08 °C), the MgCO3 (mol%) reflects this world’s coldest CCA site temperature with the lowest MgCO3 content of 7.9 ± 1.6 mol%. The along transect variability, however, shows with ~6 mol% a larger MgCO3 variability than expected for the 3 °C intra-annual temperature amplitude in Terra Nova Bay. This implies that in low amplitude settings the biomineralisation control on Mg/Ca ratios can outcompete its temperature sensitivity. Mark-recapture studies, next to the environmental logger station La Zecca are suggested, to perform a detailed growth rate and biomineralisation quantification.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present work was to study the possible role of the epithelial Ca2+ channel (ECaC) in the Ca2+ uptake mechanism in developing zebrafish ( Danio rerio). With rapid amplification of cDNA ends, full-length cDNA encoding the ECaC of zebrafish (zECaC) was cloned and sequenced. The cloned zECaC was 2,578 bp in length and encoded a protein of 709 amino acids that showed up to 73% identity with previously described vertebrate ECaCs. The zECaC was found to be expressed in all tissues examined and began to be expressed in the skin covering the yolk sac of embryos at 24 h postfertilization (hpf). zECaC-expressing cells expanded to cover the skin of the entire yolk sac after embryonic development and began to occur in the gill filaments at 96 hpf, and thereafter zECaC-expressing cells rapidly increased in both gills and yolk sac skin. Corresponding to ECaC expression profile, the Ca2+ influx and content began to increase at 36–72 hpf. Incubating zebrafish embryos in low-Ca2+ (0.02 mM) freshwater caused upregulation of the whole body Ca2+ influx and zECaC expression in both gills and skin. Colocalization of zECaC mRNA and the Na+-K+-ATPase α-subunit (a marker for mitochondria-rich cells) indicated that only a portion of the mitochondria-rich cells expressed zECaC mRNA. These results suggest that the zECaC plays a key role in Ca2+ absorption in developing zebrafish.

Abstract:
Many researchhavefound thatthe use of zero energy coolchamber (ZECC) extend the shelf life of stored fruits and vegetables. There is a lack of study conducted in Indonesia about the use of ZECC to keep mangos after harvesting though. The present study, therefore, was aimed to understand the quality and storability of stored mangos in ZECC. Three different storage containers, a ZECC, ambient, and refrigerator with different average RH and temperature, were used to place selected ripe mangos (Mangifera indica L) that were manually harvested from farmers’ field nearby. The ZECC was set up at the residential complex for lecturer of Hasanuddin University as the experiment site. Results showed that mangos inside ZECC were acceptable until eleven days of storage after considering both quality and sensory evaluation. The result suggests that ZECC can maintain mango’s quality and extend its shelf life, which reveals that ZECC seems promisingfor commercial application

Abstract:
Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is one of important diseases causing postharvest losses on chili. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the zero energy cool chamber (ZECC) in reducing the severity of anthracnose in Capsicum frutescens L. and extending the shelf life of chilies. The research was started by designing and building ZECC as a storage area for chilies. Chilies with and without fungal inoculation were stored in ZECC and storage chamber at room temperature. C. gloeosporioides experienced a growth inhibition of 40.48% after being stored in ZECC compared to its growth at room temperature. Storage of chilies in ZECC was able to reduce the severity of anthracnose by 56.2% on the 15th day, did not affect vitamin C content and total dissolved solids (TSS) and was able to reduce chilies weight loss during storage. Based on the organovisual test using the visual quality rating method and the Hedonic sensory test, consumers prefer chilies stored in the ZECC. The results showed that storage in ZECC could extend the shelf life of chilies. This storage model does not use electricity or is zero energy so it can be used by small scale farmers. This is the first report on the use of ZECC for the management of anthracnose in postharvest chilies in Indonesia.
