Abstract:
AbstractAnomalous aortic origin of the coronary arteries is associated with exercise-induced ischaemia, leading some physicians to restrict exercise in patients with this condition. We sought to determine whether exercise restriction was associated with increasing body mass index over time. From 1998 to 2015, 440 patients ⩽30 years old were enrolled into an inception cohort. Exercise-restriction status was documented in 143 patients. Using linear mixed model repeated-measures regression, factors associated with increasing body mass index z-score over time, including exercise restriction and surgical intervention as time-varying covariates, were investigated. The 143 patients attended 558 clinic visits for which exercise-restriction status was recorded. The mean number of clinic visits per patient was 4, and the median duration of follow-up was 1.7 years (interquartile range (IQR) 0.5–4.4). The median age at first clinic visit was 10.3 years (IQR 7.1–13.9), and 71% (101/143) were males. All patients were alive at their most recent follow-up. At the first clinic visit, 54% (78/143) were exercise restricted, and restriction status changed in 34% (48/143) during follow-up. The median baseline body mass index z-score was 0.2 (IQR 0.3–0.9). In repeated-measures analysis, neither time-related exercise restriction nor its interaction with time was associated with increasing body mass index z-score. Surgical intervention and its interaction with time were associated with decreasing body mass index z-score. Although exercise restriction was not associated with increasing body mass index over time, surgical intervention was associated with decreasing body mass index z-score over time in patients with anomalous aortic origin of the coronary arteries.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), usually reported as rape drug in drug-facilitated sexual assaults (DFSA), is an endogenous substance in human body and is also found in many beverages. This may lead to data misinterpretation in forensic cases. Herein, we aimed to collect evidence about natural GHB presence in 13 energy drinks (ED). After a liquid–liquid extraction with acidic ethyl acetate, samples were derivatized with BSTFA 1% TMCS. Analyses were carried out by a GC–MS system in SIM mode (GHB, 233, 234, 143 and 147 m/z; GHB-d6, 239, 240, 120 and 206 m/z). GHB was present in all the samples at very low concentrations ranging from 98 to 197 ng/mL. Thus, GHB presence in ED is not exclusively related to exogenous addition. Since the GHB levels are far lower than the minimum active dose (i.e., 0.5 g), it is not expected to induce any effect.

Gurcay, Melih. "Human Interventions On Wetlands And Their Long Term Impacts On Human Well-being A Study Of Kizilirmak Delta Case, Samsun, Turkey." Thesis, METU, 2009. http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/2/12611408/index.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
Acknowledging the necessity of a detailed understanding of the dynamics and contributions of wetlands in decision making processes, this research aims to identify the trade-offs between human interventions and human well-being in wetlands. Being one of the thirteen Ramsar Sites of Turkey and providing various ecosystem functions, Kizilirmak Delta was determined as the case study area of the research. Following the literature review on wetlands and their valuation, an assessment framework was developed for analyzing the trade-offs in the Kizilirmak Delta. Following this framework, first the importance, values and functions of the delta were defined by evaluation of its ecological, socio-cultural and economic structures and function analysis. Then, the pressures on the delta and their impacts were analyzed through DPSIR (Driving forces, Pressures, State, Impacts and Responses) Framework by action analysis. Finally, the trade-offs in the delta were calculated in monetary terms through valuation of the functions of the delta. Because of time and data constraints only a small portion of the functions of the delta was quantified in monetary terms. Calculated functions of the delta provide 753.531.772 TL worth of services that constitutes the 34 % of total GDP of the delta. This value was accepted as the cost of trade-offs in the delta, because the pressures on the delta would result in the loss of this value.

Abstract:
The theses deals with scholarly polemic about giving communion in both bread and wine to priests and laity alike, which was held between the Catholics and the Hussites from 1414 till 1431. It concentrates on theological, prosopographical as well as political aspects of the controversy. The description of its ideological nature is based on studying both well known and not yet examined relevant literary pieces of work (tracts and quaestiones) and tries to understand them in their ideological and chronological context. On the Hussite side the three main arguments supporting the theology of the chalice according to Jacob of Mies are for the first time clearly described, on the Catholic side the background and effects of the Decree of the Council of Constance against the chalice from June 1415 are observed. Effort of the Czech Utraquists to reverse the Decree by a free public hearing is the topic of the second part of the theses. It observes how the theological controversy turns into a political cause, introduces its main participants and for the first time concentrates (with regard to some sources that have not yet been considered) on the origin of the idea of a Hussite hearing at the Council of Basel. The aim of the theses is also to outline basic ideological, literary and political preconditions for...

Abstract:
The Lucembourg court attracted several noble families that had a oportunity to get a good status by serving a king and also hold offices. For such a service were ideal loyal nobles of newly arrived noble families, who didn't own any property in Bohemia. Lords of Colditz and lords of Bergov also belonged to them. The king rewarded them for their loyal service by giving them fiefs (especially in north-west Bohemia: Krupka and Bílina). The Luxembourg dynasty enabled these noble families a social rise. Lords of Colditz were connected to royal court since their beginnings in Bohemia. On the other hand some of the lords of Bergov hold offices, but they didn't hesitate to leave the court at a convinient moment. More likely they participated in newly emerging estates. During the reign of Wenceslav IV. lords of Colditz remained faithful to him, on the other hand lords of Bergov belonged to the main figures of his opposition. At the same time they changed the royal fiefs (Bílina was bought by lords of Colditz) for allod (Trosky, Turnov, Chlumec upon Cidlina). During the Hussite wars lords of Colditz and lords of Bergov were the fundamental support of catholic party. The only exception was John of Bergov, who was captured after the battle of Lipany. Abstract:
An ultra-precision diaphragm flexure stage was designed and optimized for pure out-of-plane Z-motion guidance with an effort to minimize parasitic lateral and tilt motions. The diaphragm flexure stage will be used to guide an objective lens along the optical axis in a high performance microscope. A concept with cross-linked radial spoke geometry akin to a bicycle wheel was designed to maximize its in-plane to out-of-plane stiffness ratio. The geometry was then optimized using finite element analysis. Several prototypes were manufactured using an abrasive water jet machining center and tested with a reconfigurable test fixture. Sets of two and four diaphragms were tested. Negligible improvement in parasitic motion was observed between the two and four-diaphragm configurations. The experimental results for out-of-plane stiffness matched the finite element result within 0.3%. Negligible hysteresis in vertical motion was observed. Maximum lateral parasitic motion on the order 2 μm was measured over a Z-motion range of 140 μm. The lateral displacement was linear (R2=0.998) and repeatable, and could be an artifact of misalignment of the diaphragms in the test fixture.

Abstract:
Abstract In this study, a novel model is used to precisely predict the performance of an ejector refrigeration system utilizing modern environmentally benign working fluids in both the critical and subcritical modes of operation. Energetic and exergetic performance of low global warming potential and non-ozone depleting HCFO and HFO refrigerants: R1233zd(E), R1224yd(Z), R1225ye(Z), hydrocarbon refrigerants: Isobutane and Isopentane and RE245cb2 is compared with that of conventional refrigerants: R141b and R245fa. The model takes the ejector area ratios, generator pressure, and evaporator pressure into account in the determination of the ejector loss coefficients. A program written in Engineering Equation Solver (EES) was used to obtain solutions of the developed mathematical model. In the analysis, ejector area ratios between 6.44 and 12.76, evaporator temperatures between 4 and 16°C, condenser temperatures between 25 and 50°C as well as generator temperatures between 70 and 110°C were used. Results show that Isobutane and R1225ye(Z) have the greatest performance, giving an over 150% increase in the coefficient of performance (COP) compared to R245fa. The increase in the COP with isopentane, RE245cb2, R1224yd(Z) and R1233zd(E) were as high as 22%, 32%, 16% and 14%, respectively at the lowest area ratio. Results further show that the ejector contributes the highest exergy losses (up to 55%, depending on the evaporator, condensing and generator temperatures) compared to the other components. The contribution of the condenser to the total exergy loss is up to 28%, for the generator it is up to 34% and up to 12% for the evaporator. The pump and the throttle valve give values lower than 0.5 and 9%, respectively for all the refrigerants.

Abstract:
CFD experiments were conducted for heat transfer with jet impingement over solid surfaces. The parameters include: 1) Jet Reynolds number from 3,000 to 23,000, 2) Jet-to-target-plate spacing (z/d), from 2 to 14 (single jet), d is jet diameter, 3) Target plate shape: 3a) flat, 3b) concave, 3c) convex, (single jet), 4) One row of seven jets impinging on a flat surface, the channel has one end closed (at 24d away from the most upstream jet axis), 5) Three rows of seven jets each in-line arrangement impinging on a flat surface, the channel has one end closed (at 24d away from the most upstream jet axis). Four CFD models (utilizing FLUENT commercial code) have been considered: 1) laminar flow (no turbulent transport), and turbulent flow with turbulence modeling by 2) the standard k–ε model, 3) the k–ω model, and 4) the v2–f model. The predictions of Nu number for each case were compared with experimental data available from the literature. It is shown that the v2–f model gives the best overall performance, though the k–ω model gives good predictions for most of the flow, with the exception of near the stagnation zone for some cases. The models are in much better agreement (with the data) as z/d grows and at larger radial locations from the jet axis, as expected. For multiple jets in one row (z/d = 2), again the v2–f showed the best overall agreement with the experimental data. The k–ω model is not as good while k–ε clearly overpredicts the Nusselt numbers. For multiple jets in three inline rows (z/d = 5), all the three models were in overall agreement with the experimental data. However, k–ε and k–ω exhibit an important phenomenon, reported by the experiments: a decrease of the stagnation Nu from the upstream jet to the downstream ones. The v2–f model did not reproduce this feature.

In ASME 2007 26th International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering. ASMEDC, 2007. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/omae2007-29141.

Abstract:
The combined anti-vibration platform, which was composed of the mega-frame platform (MFP) and the multiple extended tuned mass damper (METMD) system, was simplified as a multiple-degree-of-freedom system for the study of the resonant responses’ decrease of the platforms under the rare seismic wave forces. The METMD system was made up of several ETMD units that had a specific frequencies’ bandwidth. The average frequency was tuned to the platform’s first natural frequency, which was the target frequency to be controlled. So, the offshore platform and the METMD system were simplified to an m+1 DOFs system to be analyzed theoretically. The ratio of the METMD system mass to the platform residual mass was 14% and the ratio of the exciting frequency to the platform’s natural frequency varied between 0.5 and 1.5 The theoretical analysis shows that the platform has the best vibration control effect when the frequencies’ bandwidth is 0.45; the damping coefficient is 0.1 and the number of the ETMDs is 5. In order to analyze the dynamic response of the combined anti-vibration platform under the random seismic loads, the El-Centro, Taft and Qian’an seismic waves were chosen as typical loads and their maximal acceleration values had been adjusted according to 8 level fortification under rarely occurred earthquake. The FEM simulations shows that: 1) the average vibration displacements decrease ratios of the entire platform in the X, Y, Z directions are 80.48%, 61.93% and 64.31% respectively under the El-Centro seismic wave; 2) the X, Y, Z directions average decrease ratios for the entire platform are 84.21%, 49.95% and 56.6% respectively under the Taft seismic wave; 3) the X, Y, Z directions average decrease ratios of the entire platform are 50.09%, 32.645% and 23.34% respectively under the Qian’an seismic wave; and 4) the average displacement decrease ratios of the whole platform in X, Y and Z-direction are 71.59%, 48.18% and 48.08% respectively considering all seismic waves above. So the combined anti-vibration platform has the better ability on the vibration control under the random seismic loads.

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: [This Proceedings paper was revised and published in the 2018 issue of the Interdisciplinary Journal of e-Skills and Lifelong Learning, Volume 14] This presentation presents the preliminary findings of a survey that sought to examine the technology uses, needs, interests, career goals, and professional expectations of Generation Z college students Background: Students entering college today are part of Generation Z born in the late 90’s through 2016 making the oldest among them 20 or so years old. They already outnumber millennials and are the first true digital natives being born during the age of smart phone. They are the first generation that used a tablet before they could ride a bike, the first to have childhood friends that they engaged with electronically, and the first to have their baby photos and youthful milestones shared on social media. Their minds, relationships, learning preferences, emotional health, sense of self, have all been inexplicably shaped by constant exposure to screens and networked digital technologies, which the research shows in high doses changes the neural circuitry of developing brains, leading to shorter attention spans, stunted social skills and a heightened ability to multitask Methodology: In the fall of 2017 an online student perception survey was administered to students enrolled at a mid-Atlantic minority serving institution. The survey included a combination of dichotomous, Likert-scaled, and ranking questions. The survey was administered to students following completion of core computer concepts courses and explored their technology backgrounds, skills, perceived computing self-efficacy, and the role they predict technology will play in their future career Contribution: As Generation Z descends on college campuses, with their technology dominated backgrounds and different communications, learning, and social preferences, it is important to better understand this generation whose needs and expectations will help shape the future of higher education. Additionally, this study also provides research on a population (first-generation minority college students) that is expanding in numbers in higher education and that the literature, reports is impacted negatively by the digital divide and educational inequalities. This paper is timely and relevant and helps to extend our understanding of Generation Z. Findings: The findings show that Generation Z learners enjoy computer classes, feel that using computers comes easy to them; are experts in the use of social media, mobile operating systems, using a smart phone, searching the Web, and email. They reported that they want to be more technologically literate, want to be more skilled in computer software applications, and are interested in learning about cyber security. In terms of the future, most also believe that their career will require them to analyze information to inform decision making. Additionally, most believe that information security will be important to their future career. Finally, results affirmed that college computing courses remain important and that college students recognize that technology will play an important role in their career and that employers want to see job applications with strong technology skills. Recommendations for Practitioners: Generation Z learners enrolled in higher education need, and want, a wide range of technology courses available to them in order to help them meet the rapidly evolving demands of tomorrow’s workplace. Students overwhelmingly see the value in enhancing their technology skills especially in such areas as computer software applications, information management, and cyber security. Recommendation for Researchers: Institutions of higher education should invest in thorough and ongoing examinations of the information and technology literacy skills, needs, and perceptions of students. Impact on Society: Understanding the interests and needs of Generation Z learners is imperative to the future of higher education. Future Research: This survey is a work in progress that is part of a pilot study that is being used to help guide a much more sizable examination of Generation Z learners.

Abstract:
Abstract Impingement jets are used in different cooling applications where it is required to remove large amounts of heat. Heat transfer in the stagnation point for a single jet impinging on an isothermal plate is investigated with four turbulence models. Two models are RANS (Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes): Transition SST and Transition κ–κl–ω. The other two models are URANS (Unsteady Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes): SAS and DES-SST. This paper explores the best turbulence model for thermal design and cooling purposes. Results are validated with experimental data reported by Gardon & Akfirat. These four turbulence models are available in the commercial CFD software package ANSYS FLUENT 18.1. Special attention is paid to the heat transfer in the impingement region through evaluation of Nusselt number in the stagnation point. Different dimensionless nozzle-to-plate distances are considered in this work (z/b = 14 to z/b = 40), and two different Reynolds numbers are used Re = 11,000 y Re = 22,000. Three turbulence models are within reasonable accuracy (10%) of the experimental data, but some turbulence models have problems with convergence and grid independence, especially the URANS models. Based on these results, the best turbulence model for applications in heating and cooling systems where impingement heat transfer is critical is the Transition κ–κl–ω.

Abstract:
Many researchers have studied the structural dynamics behavior of the blade of the horizontal axis wind turbine using different approximate theories where they considered some assumptions that other researchers ignored. In a previous study, the authors considered all the extensional, torsional and flexural loadings acting on the blade with their couplings, variable airfoil cross sections with warping effects, shear deflection, rotary inertia and with or without blade’s pretwist. That previous study was performed for the linear small displacement case. In the present study, the new contribution is considering all the inclusions of the previous study but for the nonlinear large deformation case instead of the small deformation case. To the best knowledge of the authors the simultaneous inclusion of all these factors has not been done so far. The external work that acts on the blade, the total strain energy and total kinetic energy for all the different load couplings were defined (all the important strain higher order terms are kept since large deformation is considered) and used to obtain the Lagrange equations of motion. Then the load vector R, mass and linear and nonlinear stiffness matrices were deduced from the derived Lagrange equations of motion to build the nonlinear dynamic equations of motion that was solved for the three unknown displacements in the directions of x, y and z axes and the three unknown rotations about the x, y and z axes at the required stations along the length of the given blade using the Newmark implicit iteration scheme for a 14m long pretwisted blade that has a linearly decreasing NACA4415 airfoil cross section from hub to tip.

Abstract:
This paper examines how American and Hungarian economists of generation Y and Z view the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the short and long term. The choice of topic is motivated by the integration of AI into our everyday lives. Research has been carried out in human resources and social perspectives. Based on the responses of 147 Hungarian and 105 American economists surveyed within the framework of an online, anonymous questionnaire method, a positive vision emerges for young economists. They were confident in the social and economic welfare effects of AI. No significant difference can be found between the thinking of the two generations and the opinion of the nations. The most important conclusion from the empirical results is that AI does not take away the job of economists, but transforms it, and supports to appreciate the virtues of human resources. Accordingly, employers need to develop a shortand long-term action plan to secure their employees’ future.

Abstract:
A wind turbine blade similar to a helicopter rotor blade has the structure of a pretwisted beam of a variable airfoil asymmetrical cross-section. A number of approximate theories have been developed by different researchers to study the dynamic behavior of the blade of a horizontal axis wind turbine. Some researchers include warping, but they do not include the blade’s pretwisting. Others include the axial and torsional loadings and the coupling among these loadings but they ignore the bending loading. The new contribution in this study is the consideration of all the extensional, torsional and flexural loadings with their couplings, variable airfoil cross sections with warping effects, shear deflection, rotary inertia and with or without blade’s pretwist to obtain a more accurate dynamic model. To the best knowledge of the authors the simultaneous inclusion of all these factors has not been done before. The aerodynamic loadings (lift, drag and pitch moment) were calculated at each time step for a 14m blade that has a linear decreasing NACA4415 airfoil cross section utilizing a time dependent set of parameters such as angle of attack, material and air density, wind and blade speed, flow angle, yaw, pitch angles. Assuming that deformation is small, the total strain energy and total kinetic energy and external work due to the aerodynamic loading acting on the blade were calculated and used in the Lagrange equations of motion where we obtained the stiffness, mass and damping matrices of the linear dynamic equations of motion. Then the unknown displacements and rotations u, v and w in the directions of x, y and z axes respectively, the bending rotations θ1, θ2 about the y and z axes respectively and the torsional rotation ϕ about the x axis, were solved using the Newmark implicit iteration scheme.

Abstract:
Abstract The State-of-the-Art FinFET technology has been widely adopted in the industry, typically at 14 nm and below technology nodes. As fin dimensions are pushed into the nanometer scale, process complexity is highly escalated, posing great challenges for physical failure analysis. Meanwhile, the accelerated cycles of learning for new technology nodes demand high accuracy and fast turnaround time to solve the material and interface issues pertaining to semiconductor processing or device failure. In this paper, we report a case study of fin related defect that caused device failure. Several analytical techniques, namely, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), plan-view and cross-section Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) with Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) and Z-contrast tomography were employed to characterize the defect and identify root-cause, leading to the resolution of this issue.
