The concert focused on works in the form of "Suite". Suite was composed of various dance music in the Baroque period. These dances were all in the same tonality. After the 17th century, the composition was considered an ancient form of composition, and it was transformed into a modern suite in the 19th century. In the author's learning career, was less exposed to the suites outside the Baroque period, so this concert selected two works with strong exotic color combinations. One work with a Spanish folklsong, and the other is a piece of music related to Jewish life.

Jacky Chan, Steven Chow and Chow Yun Fat are the top box-office stars of the Hong Kong cinema during the late 80''s and 90''.They were called the "Twin Chows adn Chan''.This thesis delves into gender issue existing in the movies featurin gby these three actors, and then studies the star system of the Hong Kong film industry to understand between movies and the Hong Kong socio-cultural contex t.This thesis employs cultural studies concepts to conduct a multi-facited int erpretation of the core meaning of cultural products. Semiotics, narrativeanal ysis and ideological criticism are employed to explore the gamut of complicate dideologies workings of these film. This paper first analyzes the gender discou rse, in order to understand the heroic male image in the movies and the role o f their female charactor by looking into the acting styles of Jacky Chan, Chow Yun Fat and Steven Chow. The exercise revealed that the ideologies of these a ction movies are often oppressing and patriarchal. However, the dominant statu s of the male in the movies is not a permanent fixture. Cranks in the dominan t ideologies often result to an unstable image for the male hero. Analysis the delves into the intertwined relationship between the actionfilm star and gero image. It is found that the star image both perpetuates and subverts the gero ic image. Since the 1997 takeover cuisis greatly affects Hong Kong''s society a nd politics, These influences are also reflicted in its movies, such asthe int rospection of the social classes, lack of trust on the Hong Kong government,an d the overseasdevelopment of actors etc., which are all evident in the movie. It is also found that movie texts were not isolated from the real world. An ac tor''s on-screen and off-screen gives each other a boost. The hero''s performanc eon screen is extended to his real-life image, as a result, the hero stops bein g a fictional person, he become someone who really exists ing the real world a nd shares the experiences of the film audience.

Bai Yu-chan was a famous alchemist at South Song Dynasty. His thought was so profound and wide that he was able to carry over the Dan-Taoism and Thunder Rites. His Dan-Taoism has been inherited from Southern Lineage, while his Thunder Rites have come from Shen Hsiao lineage thunder rite. Bai Yu-chan conformed to the trend of his times to combine the Dan-Taoism and Thunder Rites to become generalization and played an important role in the history of Daoism during the South Song Dynasty. Bai Yu-chan’s Dan-Daoism has included the External Alchemy and Inner Alchemy and he thought that external alchemy was hard to achieve the practice and thus few succeeded while inner alchemy was easier to achieve the goal and more have succeeded so he mainly took inner alchemy as core practice. The basic theory of his inner alchemy are: Three-religion-in-one theory, Life theory, Vessel theory, Medicine theory and Degree of alchemy theory; and his way of practice and order are: Formation at initial stage, Chi Kung at the middle stage, and Apotheosized at the higher realm. Bai Yu-chan brought together the theory of the former and the practice of the latter to complement each other and achieve the alchemy purpose to become immortal by way of integrating the heart and mind. The thunder rites of Bai Yu-chan have taken the human body as a small universe and taken the heaven and earth as the big universe and through the practice of the inborn vatality of a person to respond to the vitality of five elements of the universe to achieve the condition that: “I am the thunder god and thunder god is me”. Then he made use of the written spell, chanting charms, calculation secret, and divination, etc., magic to save the world and help others. Besides, he had set up a place for practice the rite and established religious groups, enacted the religious regulations and extensively advertise for disciples to make the Southern Lineage of Golden Alchemy School reborn and climbed even higher. Through the combination of the inner alchemy and thunder rites, Bai Yu-chan created the new chance for the development of the Southern Lineage, which he was based on Daoism, rite, mind, and a key for entrance to Tao as the inner core of the thinking to complete the procedure of practice “Alchemy – Implement thunder – Become immortal”. These all have very important impact on Southern Lineage and other religious lineages in the later time.

This study conducted a model test for the proposed connecting channels between existing and planned Yu-chan pumping stations. Using the model, the flow at the fore bay and the wet well of the planned pumping station were also examined. Finally, the standard operation procedure for the combined existing and proposed pumping stations were secured. The results show that in order to fulfill the required discharge through the connecting channels the existing #4 to #6 entrances at the existing Yu-chan pumping station must be expanded and combined and the connecting channel size must at least be 5.00m 3.50m. The fore bay of the proposed pumping station is recommended a minor modification to reduce the vortices. Finally, the standard operation procedure for the combined existing and proposed pumping stations were provided.

ABSTRACT Chinese novels carrying the romances of scholars and beauties have always been criticized as “greatly stereotyped” and hence regarded by some scholars as artistically inadequate. After the novels Beautiful Jade Pears and Cold Swallows Over Flat Mountain helped to establish this genre, most of the subsequent works not only were lacking in originality but also appeared quite similar to their precedents in content. As a result, succeeding works have rarely attracted much attention from fiction researchers. However, although the plot of The White Scepter does not break free from the pattern where gifted men of letters are eventually able to marry their beloved, the work successfully depicts the unique acts and looks of three talented women whose roles are a far cry from the main female characters in typical scholar-beauty romances. Another novel The Jade Toads has just men as the protagonists, and its scholar-beauty plot, where 12 women are married to the same man, absorbs the elements of martial arts novels. Therefore, it is very different than The White Scepter, in which courageous heroines serve as the centerpiece. Nonetheless, The Bibliography of Chinese Novels Seen in Tokyo, Japan edited by Sun Kaidi and the Final Draft of the Bibliography of Chinese Popular Novels edited by Otsuka Hidetaka both maintain that Cui Xiangchuan is the common author of these two novels, but they failed to explain clearly. It is noteworthy that these two novels are quite dissimilar in terms of thought, form, morals and linguistic style. Consequently, it is necessary to conduct in-depth explorations so as to figure out the true relations between them. Furthermore, the developmental track of the novel in the history of literature can be somehow grasped by observing the two utterly different aspects of the scholar-beauty novels in the early Qing dynasty.

A total of 265 feces of wild Taiwan macaque (Macaca cyclopis) were collected at Yu-shan National Park and Chai-shan ( KaoShung ) from September 1994 to November 1995. Fecal specimens preserved in 10% formalin were examined for the presence and the amount of helminth ova and protozoa cyst. Ten intestinal nematodes, one cestode and two protozoa were found. Trichuris trichiura, Oesophagostonum sp. and Strongyloides fuelleborni were the most prevalent nematode parasites for the monkeys in the two areas. Yu-shan monkeys had higher prevalence and egg abundance for most parasite species than Chai-shan monkeys, except for Strongyloides fuelleborni and Ascaris sp. Nematode infection followed a different seasonal pattern in the two areas. In Yu-shan, Trichuris trichiura, Oesophagostonum sp. and Strongyloides fuelleborni were more prevalent during hot seasons than in cold seasons. The pattern for those parasites in Chai-shan was the opposite. The prevalence of these three parasite species were positively correlated with the monthly mean temperature in Yu-shan, but were negatively correlated in Chai-shan. This suggests that parasite infection might be influenced by temperature or other environmental factors. Monkeys of different body size and different troops have different parasite infection. The parasite species found in small monkeys are similar to those found in medium-sized ones, while the parasites found in large monkeys are different from the others. Significant difference in the prevalence and egg abundance of Trichuris trichiura was found among different troops in Yu-shan. The dissimilarity indices of the parasite community were lower for neighboring troops which may be explained by their overlapping ranges and similar habitats. The larval culture experiments showed the response of Oesophagostonum sp. and Strongyloides fuelluborni larvae to the two culture temperatures (25℃ and 37℃) were different. The observed pattern might be related to the difference in the life cycles of the two species.

As the raising of feminine consciousness, there are more and more outstanding women in every field. The government also integrated the corporation of gender equity education with the Grade 1-9 Curriculum, so the gender issues are getting attention. Research and discussions about extraordinary women appeared in every field, but references about music remain insufficient. The purpose of this study was to investigate the composing process of three Taiwan contemporary women composers. Interviews with Fan-Ling Su, Ching-Yu Hsiao, and Ching-Wen Chao were conducted for data collection. The results were as follows: 1. The three Taiwan contemporary women composers thought that their compositions are influenced by their background, learning experience and personality, not gender. Composing is the most important way for them to reach self-achievement. Currently, compositions with commission are the major sources of their works. 2. The three Taiwan contemporary women composers thought that there’s no influence on their compositions from the feminine characteristics. They will not emphasize their female identity in their compositions. However, they considered that females are more thoughtful, observant, sensitive and delicate. Personality is a major factor of their compositions. 3. The three Taiwan contemporary women composers agreed unanimously that it’s difficult to balance all the roles they play in their lives, but they’ll take it for the most meaningful challenge. They will not give up their passion for composing, and they are optimistic toward the development of Taiwan contemporary music. Finally, recommendations are provided in three aspects: teaching, policy-making and future research.

The Chao-An Hakka people have lived among the Hokkian people for a long time in history. Therefore, their cultural characteristics are hard to be noticed. The target group to study in this thesis is the Chao-An Hakka people who live in the Lun-Bei and Er-Lun areas in Yun-Lin County, Taiwan. They not only could speak their own Chao-An Hakka language but they could also speak Hokkian language for the past several hundred years in Taiwan. Moreover, they have kept their very own religion and ways of ancestor worship. The purpose of this paper is to discover their distinctive cultural characteristics through the concept of the cultural circle and through the understanding of their village development, sociolinguistics, religious practices, and ancestor worship. I believe the culture of Chao-An Hakka people in Yun-Lin can be successfully preserved mainly because they live close together. I hope the concept of the cultural circle used in this paper will be useful to other people for further research. Taiwan’s many local cultures keep changing. I suggest we should pay close attention to the future development of the Chao-An Hakka’s culture in Yun-Lin.
