Abstract:
Abstract Fifty years of ageism research has identified the psychosocial subconstructs and consequences of ageism and produced over 30 published definitions. However, some educators still define ageism as age discrimination or prejudice against one age group by another age group. This oversimplification provides camouflage for insidious ageism, messages that are not recognized as harmful by their source or by the target of the ageism message. This type of ageism message cultivates implicit fears of aging and negative self-perceptions, and because they are not recognized, they undermine efforts to reframe aging. This presentation deconstructs ageism to make this extremely complex phenomenon clear without oversimplifying its nature or understating its consequences. It differentiates ageism from youthism through their developmental processes, persistence, and consequences. Knowledge will be integrated and synthesized across disciplines using a biopsychosocial lens. Examples of insidious ageism are presented to increase one’s capability to recognize and avoid insidious ageism.

Abstract:
Desistance as a process to forgo delinquent habits is an important target for intervention into youth at risk of delinquency. The intervention through social work services, nevertheless, has not clearly demonstrated its effectiveness. For such a demonstration, the present study examines the contribution of social work services with reference to the voluntaristic theory of action. The theory suggests that promoting the youth’s voluntarism underlying desistance, encompassing appreciation, facilitation, observation, and identification concerning desistance is essential. The suggestion leads to the hypothesis that social work services promote the youth’s desistance through the promotion of voluntarism for desistance. This hypothesis gets support from this study of 586 at-risk youths in Hong Kong, with data collected from both the youths and their responsible social workers. The support implies the value of social work services for sustaining the youth’s desistance.

Abstract:
The study assessed the factors influencing the involvement of youths in poultry production in Abia State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study assessed the extent of youth’s involvement in poultry production; and ascertained the perceived factors that influence the involvement of youths in poultry production. Multistage sampling procedure was employed in selecting 120 young poultry farmers. Data collected were analyzed using percentage, and mean, as well as ordinary least square regression analysis. Results revealed that the youths in the study area participated moderately in poultry production and the foremost poultry production activities being participated by the youths included feeding ( x̄ = 2.81), packing and replacement of litters ( x̄ = 2.59), and vaccination/medication ( x̄ = 2.54). Moreover, the perceived factors influencing the youths’ involvement in poultry production were income ( = 3.69), cost of feed ( = 3.45), and availability of land ( x̄ = 3.33). The coefficients of age (0.013), membership to co-operative (0.042), years of experience (0.016), and extension contact (0.015) were positive and significantly influenced the involvement of the youths in poultry production. Enabling youths’ access to credits, subsidizing the cost of feed, and organizing training for the youths on poultry production were recommended.
With the changes in the quality of education requirements and the study opportunities, it is essential to find out how youth’s readiness to study develops, and what are its’ contributing factors. The aim is to clarify the explanation of the definition „readiness”. Analyzing literature, it is concluded that in many respects readiness for concrete studies is dependent on the youth’s motives and motivation, major and minor needs, system of values, socially financial circumstances, individual characters, temperament, individually-psychological characteristics, physical and physiological growth, on the state’s policy in the fields of education, youth, and jurisprudence, as well as on youth's attitudes to society and themselves.

Abstract:
Background: Parenting talented youths is a challenging task since most talented youths experience role complexities in their lives. Thus, raising talented youths can lead to increased challenges of parenting.Purpose: This study aimed to explore the challenges faced by Javanese Muslim parents in promoting the well-being of talented youths. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological approach was chosen to guide this study. Thirteen Javanese Muslim parents of talented youth (nine men and three women) were recruited using snowball and purposive sampling techniques. The data were obtained by conducting semi-structured interviews and field notes. The collected data were transcribed using verbatim transcription and analyzed using Giorgi’s method of analysis. Results: Three themes were found after data analysis, i.e., challenges coming from the youths, challenges from the community, and the existence of financial constraints in the family. Challenges coming from the youth were related to the oppositional behavior of talented youths and difficulties in managing children’s activities as students and as talented youths. Challenges from the community included low commitment and belittling behavior from teachers or lecturers, ridicule from their neighbors, gender-based discrimination, and the absence of support from the organization. Another theme was related to financial constraints in the family which made it difficult for parents to finance their youth’s education and talent activities. Conclusion: Identifying the actual problems experienced by the talented youths’ parents could help nurses develop appropriate family programs, consider, and incorporate holistic aspects into the programs to obtain optimal results.

Abstract:
This article examines an adolescent’s music literacy education across Caribbean and U.S. schools using qualitative research methods and theories of multimodality, transnationalism, and global cultural flows. Findings include that the youth’s music literacy practices continuously shifted in response to the cultural practices and values of the physical geographies in which he alternatively lived; however, transnational movements combined with extended physical sojourning contributed to the youth’s development of progressively generative perspectives about the potential of U.S. contexts for building his music literacies and a correspondent constraining view on Caribbean geographies for his music literacy development. Amid an abundance of research on the significance of online worlds to transnational youths’ identity and literacy development, this article contributes insights into how formal literacy education physically experienced within and across nations shapes the nature of literacy learning.

Abstract:
The prevalence of poverty among youths engaged in agricultural production is partly responsible for increase in agricultural diversification and rural-urban migration among other social vices in developing societies. To help generate suitable policies in order to tackle this rampaging issue, the study specifically analyzes poverty and income inequality as well as identified determinants of poverty among youths involved in agricultural production in the rural areas of Akwa Ibom State located in southern Nigeria. Data were collected from 300 youths spread across the rural areas of the State. Combinations of sampling methods were employed to sample cross sectional data from respondents. The study used descriptive tools and regression analysis (Logit regressions) to analyze information collected. The socio-economic analysis reveals that, most youth farmers were educated; social capital formation was poor, while land size averaged at 0.48ha per youth. About 45.1% of male youths and 72% of female youths live below poverty line in the study area. Income inequality index revealed 0.4009 for male youths and 0.3797 for female youths. The Logit model estimates revealed that, youths’ years in social organization, level of formal education, age of youths; amount of non-farm income, farm size, agricultural extension activities and commercial purposes of agricultural production reduced the probability of poverty incidence among youth farmers in the State. Household size and dependent ratio were positive drivers of poverty among rural youths. Based on the research findings, it is recommended that poverty and income inequality among youths engaged in agricultural production in the rural area of the State can be successfully handled, if sound family welfare packages are implemented in the rural communities. Also, rural youth’s groups should be strengthen to promote social capital formation; while farm enterprise development capacity should be encourage among youths as well as strengthening agricultural extension system in the State. Marginal lands should be developed and distributed to youth farmers in the area.

Abstract:
The purpose of the current study was to examine the perception of verbal violence by youths in online exchanges. Undergraduate students gave their opinions on a number of violent and nonviolent messages in a forum. It was observed that verbal violence arouses an ambivalent attitude, i.e., it is considered both unacceptable and humorous. The results showed that the acceptability of verbal violence is related to the topic of discussion and to youths' Internet practices. Verbal violence is more often rejected when the topic of discussion is less serious. A high acceptability of verbal violence is associated with a high level of time spent on the Internet and a high use of humor in a youth's own messages. The results contribute to identifying the communication norms for youth in online environments.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study examined truant youth's and non-truant youth's attitude toward their parents. The hypothesis stated there will be no statistical significant relationship between truant youth's and non-truant youth's attitude toward their parents. The sample of 30 male youths between the ages of 13 and 18 was taken from the Fulton County Juvenile Court and the YMCA of Metro Atlanta. The researcher used a 25 question instrument called the Child's Attitude Toward Father and Mother Scale to measure truant youth's and non-truant youth's attitude toward their parents. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis. The data was analyzed using frequencies, descriptive analysis, and Chi-square. Comparing truant youths and non-truant youths, using Chi-square, indicated that all of the differences between the two groups were not statistically significant. The researcher found that truant youths and non-truant youths did not differ significantly in their attitudes toward their parents. The conclusions drawn from the findings suggest that a youth's attitude toward their parents may not impact their school attendance.

Abstract:
This work was developed within the methodological guidelines of a qualitative case study, having as its object the Gabriel Prestes Fanfare - FAGAP - from the city of Lorena, located in the Vale do Paraíba Paulista region. The onset of the research involved getting to know how the fanfare space interferes with its participants by means of a long, effective immersion in the fieldwork. The adopted research plan was developed in such a way as to simultaneously follow two analytical axes on the object of the thesis: a diachronical one and a synchronical one. The diachronical axis enabled studying the group within an historical frame of reference of fanfares as well as FAGAP itself, while the synchronical axis dealt with current circumstances. Crossing these two axes made it possible to delineate a configuration of FAGAP and to analyze the characteristics it shares with other musical groups, as well as to focus on its peculiarities. Adopting such a methodological design proved possible to do away with an investigative perspective focused solely on the present situation of the group being studied, as well as to recover practices, contexts and traditions which help approach the group in its everyday life. The data collected in the historical research and those collected in the fieldwork produced a dense body of knowledge which was critically analyzed in the light of authors who study representations and cultures, particularly Jean Claude Abric, Iuri Lotman and Bruno Latour. By confronting the history of fanfares to that of FAGAP itself, the data show how fanfares have survived cultural changes and resisted the threat of extinction, becoming an educational space for youths.

Abstract:
This study describes how young people communicate and present themselves on Facebook. The aim is to investigate the identities created on Facebook and on Facebook influence young people's identity work. I have been studying and observed a group of youths on Facebook aged 11-23. Based on the concept of identity I have, among other things, studied the group based on theories of how we all play theater and appearing in different roles and social interaction on Facebook. I have also taken note of research on youth culture and group identity and how it manipulates young people and communicate with different symbols. The results show the emergence of genres on Facebook where users appear in different identities. These are emerging in various ways and to different degrees, and have been compiled using various tools available on Facebook. It also emerges that this affects the youth's identity work
