Abstract:
25 adolescents showing a Psychotic-spectrum Disorder were compared with 24 adolescents showing Conduct Disorder on a task eliciting reasons for attributing life to an ambiguous pictorial stimulus (dough on a beach). Consistent with expectations from earlier research, the psychotic adolescents showed greater modes of animistic thinking (attributions of life to nonlife forms) than conduct-disordered youth, associated with theorized merging between self and the nonhuman environment. Implications are discussed.

Abstract:
The authors discuss the emergence of destructive socio-political practices in the youth communities of the Krasnodar Region, Russia, and make recommendations to reduce their negative impact at the regional level in terms of the youth policy. The study lays in conceptual frames of life strategies of youth (developed by Yu. A. Zub and V. I. Chuprov), of the humanistic concept of youth (I. M. Ilinsky), and the ladder of participation of the youth (R. Hart). The paper represents the comprehensive study conducted in two stages resulting in revelation and characterization of youth communities. The groups are characterized according to their life strategies of self-determination typical for different semantic cultures coexisting in the youth environment of Russia. In the communities of young people revealed in the study, the two major types of socio-political behavior and attitudes are emphasized: openly and directly destructive forms of public behavior, and indirectly destructive behavior limiting the potential of development and application of youth policies. Tackling imitating forms of public conduct and increasing the level of actual participation of young people in the implementation of the youth policies together with older generations for the joint solutions will contribute to minimizing risks of destructive practices and the development of the constructive potential of the youth.

Hill, Graham. "Authentic Contextualization of Theology & Practice in Youth Ministry." Journal of Youth and Theology 1, no. 2 (January 27, 2002): 36–46. http://dx.doi.org/10.1163/24055093-90000101.

Abstract:
The contention of Hill is that the world of theological formation and reflection is often quite distinct from the realm of youth ministry practice. Many ministerial problems are directly related to a poor theology of youth ministry, and a poor ability to conduct a conversation between the two. Fragmented youth ministry practices, personal conflict and dissatisfaction, retreat from asking broad questions of programs and purposes, and unquestioning adoption of offshore solutions, are some of the results. For these reasons a well-developed theology of youth ministry is crucial to longevity, integrity, and theological and personal conviction in the life of the youth leader and pastor. This paper explores some broad theological concepts and applies them to the practice of youth ministry.

Abstract:
Youth with conduct problems present frequently depressive symptoms. Academic skills are thought to be a mediating variable by which conduct problems could lead to depressive symptoms. No studies have longitudinally compared this model among school-aged boys and girls with different levels of conduct problems. Cascade models were tested to examine the relations between conduct problems, depressive symptoms, and academic skills over a 3-year period, and whether the severity of conduct problems and gender moderated these associations. Participants were 381 children presenting early clinically significant conduct problems (44.9% female) and 363 children with low levels of conduct problems (48.8% female). While results did not show any cascade or indirect associations, they revealed different direct links between conduct problems or depressive symptoms and academic skills in the four groups. These findings suggest that conduct problems severity and gender differences should be considered in treatment planning.

Abstract:
Current American policies and responses to juvenile sex offending have been criticized for being based on myths, misconceptions, and unsubstantiated claims. In spite of the criticism, no organizing framework has been proposed to guide policy development with respect to the prevention of juvenile sex offending. This article proposes a developmental life course (DLC) criminology perspective to investigate the origins, development, and termination of sex offending among youth. It also provides a review of the current state of knowledge regarding various parameters characterizing the development of sex offending (e.g., prevalence, age of onset, frequency, persistence, continuity in adulthood, and versatility). The review highlights some heterogeneity across these developmental parameters suggesting the presence of different sex offending patterns among youth. In fact, it is proposed that, based on the current knowledge, such heterogeneity can be accounted for by a dual taxonomy of adolescents involved in sexual offenses: (a) the adolescent-limited and (b) the high-rate/slow-desister. The DLC criminology approach and the dual taxonomy are proposed as organizing frameworks to conduct prospective longitudinal research to better understand the origins and development of sex offending and to guide policy development and responses to at-risk youth and those who have committed sexual offenses.

Abstract:
One of the most important aspects of the formation of the institutional environment for the insurance market in domestic conditions is the insurance behaviour of the population, in which a person seeks to reduce financial risks by transferring them to the insurer. Trying to protect themselves from financial problems arising as a result of accidents, consequences of crimes and other events that can cause damage to property, life and health, a person acquires insurance products that guarantee him monetary compensation in the event of an insured event. Currently, the insurance industry is developed in many countries. The situation in the Russian market so far indicates a low activity of citizens in the use of insurance services. One of the most common reasons for the underdeveloped insurance behaviour of compatriots, in our opinion, is the low level of knowledge and culture in the field of insurance, which directly reflects the weakness of the penetration of the institute of insurance in the socio-economic practice of the Russian households in comparison with international trends.

Abstract:
This article investigates the erotic and youthful body in John Fletcher’s play The Faithful Shepherdess, written for The Children of the Queen’s Revels c.1607. For many early modern scholastic, medical, and conduct manual writers, the life stage of Youth was a particularly dangerous moment in an individuals’ life, a time where the body was in a constant state of flux and ruled by unhealthy bodily excess. Fletcher’s play presents an assortment of characters who are all ruled by or obsessed with their own youthful passions. This article engages with Galenic humoral theory, an area that has been neglected in scholarship on Fletcher’s play, to provide a close analysis of Youth and erotic excess on the early modern stage.

Abstract:
Community violence exposure is associated with externalizing problems in adolescents, yet little research has examined the moderating role of coping in these relationships. Eighty-four low-income, urban adolescents (Mage = 13.36, 50%male, 95%African American) participated in two waves of a longitudinal study a year and a half apart. Youth reported their community violence exposure and coping styles at Wave 1, and their delinquent behavior, physical aggression, and substance use at Waves 1 and 2. Conduct problems were assessed by parent-report at Waves 1 and 2. Results showed that avoidant coping predicted less delinquency, aggression, substance use, and conduct problems over time. Further, avoidant coping attenuated the effect of community violence on delinquency. Problem-focused and emotion-focused coping did not moderate community violence exposure effects. Findings suggest that among low-income, minority urban youth, avoidant coping may protect against the development of externalizing problems in the context of community violence exposure.

Abstract:
Objective: To conduct qualitative analysis of interviews to understand phenomenology, daily life impact, and treatment considerations of sluggish cognitive tempo (SCT) behaviors in children and adolescents. Method: Youth with elevated SCT symptoms ( N = 15, ages 9–16 years) and their parents completed interviews focused on their perception and daily life impact of SCT behaviors. Parents were also asked about intervention targets. Results: Parents and youth had both negative and positive perceptions of SCT, with SCT fostering creativity/imagination and a break from stressors while also negatively impacting daily functioning. The domains most frequently selected by parents as SCT intervention targets were academics, emotions, mind wandering, morning routines, and self-esteem. Conclusion: Children and their parents share negative and positive views of SCT behaviors, while also detailing specific ways that SCT negatively impacts day-to-day functioning. This study offers insights into possible intervention targets as provided by youth and parents directly impacted by SCT.

Abstract:
AbstractSocial media have become part of the private and public lifestyles of youth globally. Drawing on both online and offline research in Indonesia, this article focuses on the use of Instagram by Indonesian Muslim youth. It analyzes how religious messages uploaded on Instagram through posts and captions have a significant effect on the way in which Indonesian Muslim youth understand their religion and accentuate their (pious) identities and life goals. This article argues that Instagram has recently become the ultimate platform for Indonesian female Muslim youth to educate each other in becoming virtuous Muslims. The creativity and zeal of the creators of Instagram daʿwa (proselytization), and their firm belief that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’, has positioned them as social media influencers, which in turn has enabled them to conduct both soft daʿwa and lucrative daʿwa through business.

Abstract:
Despite a perceived retrenchment of exclusionary school punishment, the disciplinary alternative school has emerged as a space in which to enforce upon marginalized students the logics of neoliberal carcerality. This article draws on the code of conduct handbooks of 15 Texas Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs to illustrate how this space seeks to reaffirm social and economic marginality for certain youth. Specific processes in the alternative school prepare youth for a life of imprisonment, often characterized by criminal justice system involvement, but also precarious (un)employment. As such, this article situates the disciplinary alternative school as one of many ‘alternatives’ to carcerality through which the carceral state maintains its power.

Abstract:
This article describes the implementation process of a nationwide project to enhance young people’s participation and active citizenship in the context of Portugal’s economic recession. This project used an innovative Positive Youth Development approach that engaged Portuguese youth (aged 11-18 years) through social media tools to facilitate their civic engagement and development. Participants from all over the country were empowered (1) to design and conduct research activities on topics of their choice and about their life contexts and (2) to create ways to improve youth civic participation in their communities, while developing supportive interactions with adults and peers. Overall, youth were engaged in their activities, felt their voices were heard, and felt that they were viewed as experts of their own well-being and living contexts. Youth research actions and preliminary findings were then compiled in a set of recommendations that was formally received by a high commissioner of the Ministry of Health. The article concludes with a discussion of the next steps for the project and its limitations so far.

Abstract:
Background: Participation in sport and physical activity (PA) leads to better overall health, increased life expectancy, and decreased mortality rates across the lifespan; however, there may be a range of individual, family, and community factors that influence PA participation among ONENA children and adolescents residing in the 22 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICT) and Australia. This review aimed to synthesise existing quantitative and qualitative literature regarding barriers to and facilitators of PA and sport among ONENA youth. Methods: The literature was systematically searched to include studies reporting barriers to and facilitators of PA and sports participation among ONENA children and adolescents aged 0–18 years residing in the 22 PICT and Australia. Using a pre-established taxonomy based on the social-ecological model, a deductive analysis was performed. Quality appraisal was performed using the mixed methods appraisal tool. Results: Of 1388 articles, 14 studies were included, with 128 ONENA children and adolescent participants across the four qualitative studies; 156,581 ONENA children and adolescents across the seven quantitative studies; 801 parents, children, and adolescents in one quantitative study; and 642 parents in two quantitative studies. Of the 14 included studies, none were based in Australia and only 10 of the 22 PICT were reported as the participants’ residence: Palau, New Zealand, Tonga, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Fiji. Four studies reported barriers, and another four studies reported facilitators of PA and sport, with the remaining studies reporting both barriers and facilitators. Overall, there were more barriers reported (30 in total) than facilitators (27 in total). Conclusions: Research in this area is lacking, with ONENA youth living in Australia and 12 PICT not represented. Overall, there were a larger number of facilitators experienced at individual and interpersonal levels, while barriers were highest at the community level, with the policy level having facilitators and barriers equally represented. Programs that offer PA and sport participation options with embedded SDT-informed strategies for all family members; that are accessible through existing transport and related social, cultural, and physical infrastructure; and that are committed to communities through formal co-design partnerships are needed, to enhance the PA and sport participation of ONENA youth residing in PICT.

Abstract:
Suicide rates among homosexuals are higher than those among hetero-sexuals. This article suggests that gay youth who attempt suicide represent a special case in which the meanings associated with life and death are worth exploration. In light of the phenomenological paradigm, we are interested in how sixteen gay men who attempted suicide perceived life and death before the actual suicide attempt and how these perceptions are linked to the attempt. Orbach's model specifies four categories of attitudes toward life and death: attraction and aversion to life and attraction and aversion to death. Only three categories of Orbach's model emerged from the interview data. “Attraction to life” was missing and the analysis attempts to account for this gap. Life and death are interdependent; they exist simultaneously, not consecutively; death whirs continuously beneath the membrane of life and exerts a vast influence upon experience and conduct (Yalom, 1980, p. 29).

Abstract:
The rapid increase of poverty, crime, and unemployment in South Africa results in youth vulnerability. Youth not in employment, not in education, and not in training are most vulnerable to life setbacks, find it difficult dealing with criticism, rejection, and failure. Thus, youth workers responsible for the coordination of youth service programme need to design an autonomy-supportive programme that can prepare youth mentally before youth are placed in a youth development programme that seeks to enhance youth employability. The National Youth Development Agency in South Africa under the National Youth Service Programme has developed a mental toughness programme curriculum that NYS volunteers undergo before participating in youth skill development programme or community service programme for a minimum of five days. The aim of the study is to explore the impact of the Mental Toughness Programme on the positive development of youth through youth lived experience in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. This study made use of a qualitative research approach, non-probability sampling to sample eight youth who participated in the Mental Toughness Programme offered by the National Youth Development Agency. In this study, we recommend that the National Youth Development Agency knowledge and research division should conduct a longitudinal study that can evaluate the impact of the Mental Toughness Programme on positive youth development in South Africa. The National Youth Development Agency should revise the mental toughness programme curriculum in a way that the programme goes beyond five days and physical toughness should be cooperated in the curriculum to enhance social cohesion. Abstract:
The rapid economic growth in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region has enticed flocks of expatriates from all over the world to the region in hopes of attaining a better quality of life. These expats often migrate with their spouses and children in tow bringing to light a new challenge for the Arab world: mobile youth. This research aims to find if the journey ‘home’ (repatriation) plays a role in developing these mobile children’s sense of belonging to a ‘home’, and if so, to which ‘home’. In order to do this, the research will conduct a theoretical analysis of these mobile youth born or raised within the Gulf by analysing one-on-one structured interviews through the lens of the theory of belonging, and the study of language and culture. This research concludes that in fact, mobile youth build their sense of belonging in relation to multiple ‘homes’ and not just to their ‘adopted’ or ‘parental’ home.

Abstract:
The subject of the article is the political values of the youth of Russia and Europe. The purpose of our study is to identify the political values of the Youth of Russia and Europe and conduct a comparative analysis based on the methodology of comparative analysis. Four hypotheses are tested that suggest the values of young people, regardless of the region or country of residence, are common, despite the differences in forms of government, political culture, living standards and traditions of the respondents. The main research tasks were: 1. Identification of common value orientations of modern youth studying at universities. 2. Determination of the type of cultural mentality (according to the methodology of Russian American sociologist Pitirim Sorokin) of the youth of Russia and European countries included in the sample. 3. Determining the place of politics and the opportunity to participate in policymaking in the system of values of today's youth. 4. Identification of attitudes (loyalty / acceptance / non-acceptance) to modern democratic values, as well as identification of the preferred form of political governance among young people. 5. Determination of the desired type of taxation. 6. Establishing the relationship between political values and quality of life. 7. Determining the understanding of the components of happiness (wellbeing) and the meaning of life of modern youth. 8. Diagnosis of the degree of involvement in politics/apathy of today's youth. The main results, scope of application. Study made it possible to introduce into contemporary science a new term "integral model of values" – an interconnected set of several life values of a person, each of which describes individual components of values, to form a complete and comprehensive idea of the value system of certain social groups. Empirical study made it possible to identify the basic components of the integral model of values of modern youth in Russia and Europe in a comparative aspect. Under the integral model of values, authors mean an interconnected set of several private value models of a person (mentality, basic human and social values, life satisfaction and a subjective feeling of happiness, political views and actions, cultural values, etc.), each of which describes individual components of values, and all together they form a complete and comprehensive idea of the value system of certain social groups. In the structure of the integral model of youth values, authors included: mentality, political values, political mobility and a system of universal values. In accordance with this structure, we present the results of our study.Conclusions. Authors not only managed to identify the already established values and, on the basis of them, draw up an integration model of the values of the youth of Russia and Europe through their comparison, but also to determine the needs of today's youth for certain values.

Abstract:
Background:The acquisition of social and emotional skills is associated with positive youth development, character education, healthy lifestyle behaviours, reduction in depression and anxiety, conduct disorders, violence, bullying, conflict, and anger. School-based interventions aimed to enhance these skills go beyond a problem-focused approach to embrace a more positive view of health; they could also improve the youth’s wellbeing.Aim:To describe the main features and to establish the effectiveness of universal school-based RCTs for children and the youth, aimed to promote their psychosocial wellbeing, positive development, healthy lifestyle behaviours and/or academic performance by improving their emotional and social skills. Methods:Systematic review by searching for relevant papers in PubMed/Medline with the following key words: “mental health” OR “wellbeing” OR “health promotion” OR “emotional learning” OR “social learning” OR “emotional and social learning” OR “positive youth development” OR “life skills” OR “life skills training” AND “school”. Interval was set from January 2000 to April 2014.Results:1,984 papers were identified through the search. Out of them 22 RCTs were included. While most interventions were characterized by a whole-school approach and SAFE practices, few studies only used standardized measures to assess outcomes, or had collected follow-up data after ≥ 6 months. The results of all these trials were examined and discussed. Conclusion:Universal school-based RCTs to enhance emotional and social skills showed controversial findings, due to some methodological issues mainly. Nevertheless they show promising outcomes that are relatively far-reaching for children and youth wellbeing and therefore are important in the real world.

Abstract:
The present anthropological study attempts to document and inform about Extremism, its types, nature, and resistance against it to understand the phenomenon of Extremism in universities' youth. It includes studying extremist behaviors in universities' youth such as radical, religious, linguistic,ethnic-based, and other forms of Extremism. Descriptive qualitative research methodology is used to conduct this research. The primary data is collected over six months from 37 in-depth interviews achieved through the snowball sampling method. Observations as a participant, life histories, and case studies have been used to describe the contextual dynamics of Extremism. Findings show that religious Extremism is most common in university students. The resistance of this religious Extremism is also extremist, which results in conflicts and extremist construction of students' identities in the university.Further, this study will also be helpful for resilience against Extremism and developing peacemaking culture, which is the main agenda of SDGs goals.

Abstract:
Suicide is a significant health disparity among Alaska Native youth, which is linked to cultural disruptions brought about by colonialism and historical trauma. Many Indigenous suicide prevention efforts center on revitalizing and connecting youth to their culture to promote mental health and resilience. A common cultural approach to improve psychosocial outcomes is youth culture camps, but there has been little evaluation research to test this association. Here, we conduct a pilot evaluation of a 5-day culture camp developed in two remote regions of Alaska. The camps bring together Alaska Native youth from villages in these regions to take part in subsistence activities, develop new relationships, develop life skills, and learn traditional knowledge and values. This pilot evaluation of the culture camps uses a quantitative pre/post design to examine the outcomes of self-esteem, emotional states, belongingness, mattering to others, and coping skills among participants. Results indicate that culture camps can significantly increase positive mood, feelings of belongingness, and perceived coping of participants. Culture camps are a common suicide prevention effort in Indigenous circumpolar communities, and although limited in scope and design, this pilot evaluation offers some evidence to support culture camps as a health promotion intervention that can reduce suicide risk.

Abstract:
The article highlights and analyzes the role of the space of social life of children and youth in out-of-school educational institutions in the processes of their socialization. It was proved that a modern out-of-school educational institution has all the necessary conditions and technologies for socialization of children and youth, and therefore has the opportunity to have a significant impact not only on individual children or children, but also on public life as a whole. Within these processes, the leading areas of socialization are defined and characterized: socio-psychological, the essence of which is the child’s unconscious assimilation of social behavior, following an example, unconscious identification with a person and socio-pedagogical, which consists in the processes of assimilation children and young people accepted in society norms and rules of conduct, social standards of communication, certain stereotypes and views. The role of a modern out-of-school educational institution, which builds its educational, upbringing, developmental and socializing activities on democratic and humanistic principles, and therefore considered an open educational system that actively interacts in the socialization of children and youth with the environment. Emphasis is placed on the need to solve the problem of uniting the efforts of all social institutions of education, upbringing, development and socialization of the growing individual, which is leading in the formation of the citizen of the XXI century and should be considered in the plane although this is undoubtedly important, but more so in psychological and pedagogical and socio-pedagogical, based on the current goals of the New Ukrainian education, aimed at forming vital competencies of the growing individual. It was proved that modern out-of-school education should be considered as one that reveals the nearest prospects for the development of a growing personality in the space of his social life in out-of-school educational institutions. Consequently, these educational institutions should become centers of motivational development of children and youth, self-realization of their ideas about themselves as "I of the future", and thus promote professional self-determination in the end. Then the leading characteristic of the space of social life of children and youth in out-of-school education, which ensures the effectiveness of their socialization, is its free from harassment, constant guidelines and strict regulation of life of each individual, assistance in meeting educational needs, motives and desires, creating comfortable personal communication and cooperation.

Abstract:
Due to sedentariness and poor diet and nutrition, the youth of today are increasingly exposed to early-onset Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Malaysian youth are particularly at risk for T2D since Malaysia has the highest prevalence of obesity among its young population in Asia. Our concern led us to the conduct of this study, which was aimed at discovering what sixteen young Malaysian undergraduates knew about T2D, their health beliefs, and their perspectives on T2D and lifestyles. The study also sought to ascertain if the youth would be willing to engage in T2D prevention behaviours to ward off the onset of the disease. The results of the study would help to inform us of the beliefs that other Malaysian youth may have on this issue and also of the possible content that we could propose for Diabetes Awareness Programmes aimed at Malaysian youth. The interview questions were based on the six constructs of the Health Belief Model (Abraham & Sheeran, 2014) and a written interview was conducted via email with the 16 undergraduates. The data, analysed thematically, produced seven themes. We found that the participants generally lacked proper knowledge of and are confused between types of diabetes. Nonetheless, they expressed a willingness to alter their lifestyles to incorporate healthier habits and a more nutritional diet, but were deterred by family attitude, social norms, and social media influence. We recommend two urgent actions. First, an awareness programme to enhance youth’s knowledge of T2D to showcase its gravity and consequences. Second, educating the public, especially families, on rendering support to youth who wish to live a healthier, diabetes[1]free life.

Like Youth and Age or Reason and Passion, War and Peace was one of those polarities that Renaissance writers persistently thought about as well as with. Reflection upon war and peace was at the heart of the Humanist movement, just as the conduct of war and peace was at the foundation of the European state system during the early modern period. This concern with war and peace arose from Humanism's defining traits: its exaltation of fame, its fascination with the military cultures of Greece and Rome, its emphasis on human dignity and freedom, its pursuit of secular knowledge in history and psychology, and its political commitment to improving the quality of institutional and personal life.’

Abstract:
The article considers the problem of personal resources of young people, which can contribute to their adaptation to life in modern society. The main characteristics of social development are: industrial revolution, international integration, high dynamism of socio-economic and socio-cultural processes. It is proved that their future depends on the ability of young people to overcome life difficulties, to be ready to overcome external and internal difficulties. In this regard, it is extremely important to study the resilience of young people and the factors that determine them. The purpose of the study was to study the resilience of Kazakh youth depending on their involvement in sports, as well as to conduct a cross-cultural comparison of Kazakh and Russian youth in terms of resilience and well-being. Significant differences in the level of indicators of resilience among students engaged in sports compared with non-athletes students, both in the sample of Kazakhstan and Russia, were revealed. Correlation analysis showed that young people who plan their activities, know how to maintain the desired weight, exercise and positively evaluate their physical development indicators, as well as are focused on social activity and communication with people have a high level of resilience. The data obtained can be used in the development of strategies for working with the youth of Kazakhstan. Further investigation of the problem may be related to the development of trainings on the development of resilience, as well as the development of strategies for involving young people in active sports.

Abstract:
IntroductionAn important consideration for determining the severity of mental health symptoms is their impact on youth’s daily lives. Those wishing to assess ‘life impact’ face several challenges: First, various measurement instruments are available, including of global functioning, health-related quality of life and well-being. Existing reviews have tended to focus on one of these domains; consequently, a comprehensive overview is lacking. Second, the extent to which such instruments truly capture distinct concepts is unclear. Third, many available scales conflate symptoms and their impact, thus undermining much needed analyses of associations between the two. Methods and analysisA scoping umbrella review will examine existing reviews of life impact measures for use with children and youth aged 6–24 years in the context of mental health and well-being research. We will systematically search six bibliographic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, APA PsycINFO, CINAHL, Web of Science, and the COSMIN database of systematic reviews of outcome measurement instruments), and conduct systematic record screening, data extraction and charting based on methodological guidance by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Data synthesis will involve the tabulation of scale characteristics, feasibility and measurement properties, and the use of summary statistics to synthesise how these instruments operationalise life impact. The protocol was registered prospectively with the Open Science Framework (osf.io/ers48).Ethics and disseminationThis study will provide a comprehensive road map for researchers and clinicians seeking to assess life impact in youth mental health, providing guidance in navigating available measurement options. We will seek to publish the findings in a leading peer-reviewed journal in the field. Formal research ethics approval will not be required.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Research has established a strong relationship between education and later life outcomes, where the connection between different school problems and delinquency have been widely acknowledged. These studies have often sampled male juvenile offenders exhibiting extensive and/or persistent delinquency. Less is known about the educational attainment of female juvenile offenders, especially those who display limited delinquency. In a previous study (Azad and Ginner Hau in Child Youth Serv Rev 95:384–396, 2018), the characteristics of this particular group of offenders were explored where the results showed limited self-reported delinquency but elevated school problems. Objective The present aim was to conduct a follow-up study of the same sample of female adolescents, in order to study their educational attainment during adolescence and the rate of recidivism within 24 months after being sentenced through registry data. Method The sample consisted of adolescent females (N = 144) who were convicted of a crime and sentenced to youth service between 2007 and 2012 in Stockholm, Sweden. Results The results showed that the majority of the females did not reoffend within 2 years after being sentenced. They did, however, display high educational deficits. Their grade point average at the end of both compulsory education and upper secondary school was much lower than that of young females in general, and the majority had either dropped out, never begun or received zero in all subjects at the end of upper secondary school. Conclusions The low school results indicate a need to support young delinquent females’ educational attainment in order to improve their overall life chances.

Abstract:
This study investigated the psychological impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among youth by analyzing their emotional/behavioral problems before and during the long-lasting lockdown in Spain. For that purpose, 699 parents with children aged 6–17 and 552 adolescents aged 12–17, who completed the parent and adolescent version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire at the beginning of 2019, responded to a survey from 26 May to 15 June 2020 that assessed psychological well-being and life conditions during quarantine (i.e., sociodemographic characteristics, situation before the lockdown, physical environment and accompaniment during the lockdown, COVID-related variables). According to both parent- and self-reports, children and youth experienced a significant worsening in emotional symptoms, conduct problems, hyperactivity/inattention, peer problems, and total difficulties subscales. Findings also suggested that impairment was mainly associated with variables related to the child’s situation prior to home quarantine, the quality and quantity of the child’s social networks during the lockdown, the daily routines the child followed, the concerns the child had about health, and the presence of economic and learning problems caused by the COVID-19. Thus, the present investigation emphasizes the need for carefully monitoring the mental health of younger people, provides guidance for the development of interventions that mitigate some of the psychological difficulties faced in a situation of confinement, and highlights the importance of paying special attention to high-risk groups.

Abstract:
Youth social rehabilitation and socio-therapy centres are places for socially maladjusted adolescents aged between 12 and 19 who have special educational needs, require special interactions and therapy as well as suffer from behavioural and emotional disorders. The role of these institutions is to prepare young people for independent, creative and responsible life in non-institutional environment. The study of sense of self-security is one of the main obligatory tasks which should be performed minimum twice a year in each institution as regulated by the Polish law according to the Polish Ministry of Education and Science which administers all the centres. This study aims at recognizing how youth social rehabilitation centres and socio-therapy centres conduct the surveys connected with the sense of adolescents’ self-security when they are in residential care. The article presents the quantitative research with over ninety participants, which constitutes almost 60% of all these institutions in Poland. The participants responded to the online questionnaire. The main research problem is the way the process of examining youths' sense of security in these institutions is carried out and the factors it depends on. The results show that there are no differences between these two kinds of researched institutions in investigating the youths’ sense of self-security. Youth social rehabilitation and socio-therapy centres fully perform this duty but do so differently. The results of the research in the article also show that it is necessary to analyze further the information and data about youth’s self-security.

Abstract:
In modern economic conditions, trade union organizations are necessary to protect the rights and interests of workers, improve the quality of life, and ensure social guarantees. The trade union unites: employees of the enterprise, students of secondary and higher vocational education institutions, temporarily unemployed able-bodied citizens, pensioners. Trade union organizations carry out a great deal of work to protect the social and labor rights and interests of workers, to increase the level of motivation of trade union membership. All this makes it possible to attract youth to the ranks of the trade union organization. In modern society, an important function of trade unions is to develop social partnership at the regional level, conduct inspections and identify violations of labor laws in relation to employees.

Abstract:
Drawing from the physical activity and positive youth development literatures, this paper describes a novel after-school effort designed to enhance youths’ life skill development outcomes across school, family, and community settings. This program, which is derived from the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model, is a university-assisted effort serving 1st through 5th graders attending a low-income elementary school. As a part of this model’s approach, pre-service physical education teachers engage in a yearlong course sequence and practicum that enables them to deliver the program. University graduate students and faculty then provide ongoing support, facilitation, and training to the pre-service teachers at the same time they conduct field-based research on the effort. The preliminary data indicate that the program can successfully impact several teaching and life skill development outcomes. However, additional interventions appear to be needed to extend youths’ outcomes to settings outside of the program.

Abstract:
Majority youths (uneducated/unskilled) in Uganda face challenges identified with unemployment and high-risk practices. An estimated 78 % of Ugandan youth are jobless, need economic capital and life skills. The high rate of unemployment is principally brought about by the absence of employable skills, the lack of capacity of the economy to create as many jobs for the unskilled youth and the ever-increasing population driven by the rural-urban drift. The survey used a mixed methodology where semi-structured questionnaires were used to obtain both quantitative and qualitative primary data using the electronic devices (KoBo Collect software) to conduct the interviews, reaching a total of 770 marginalized youths. Findings from the survey show that vocational skills training, business, career guidance, multi-mixed behavioral and psychological interventions are major determinants of access to the job market for marginalized slum youths. To address youth unemployment, this article underlines the need for interventions that fall outside the regular limits of training and other labor market programs. Numerous young people looking for better jobs and livelihoods are indebted by variables that are not commonly considered in these programs. These incorporate, for instance, lack of access to credit which deters business enterprise. This article has featured solutions important for young people looking for their livelihood in self-employment and entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
BackgroundSevere youth antisocial behaviour has been associated with increased risk of premature mortality in high-risk samples for many years, and some evidence now points to similar effects in representative samples. We set out to assess the prospective association between adolescent conduct problems and premature mortality in a population-based sample of men and women followed to the age of 65 years.MethodA total of 4158 members of the Medical Research Council National Survey of Health and Development (the British 1946 birth cohort) were assessed for conduct problems at the ages of 13 and 15 years. Follow-up to the age of 65 years via the UK National Health Service Central Register provided data on date and cause of death.ResultsDimensional measures of teacher-rated adolescent conduct problems were associated with increased hazards of death from cardiovascular disease by the age of 65 years in men [hazard ratio (HR) 1.17, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04–1.32], and of all-cause and cancer mortality by the age of 65 years in women (all-cause HR 1.16, 95% CI 1.07–1.25). Adjustment for childhood cognition and family social class did little to attenuate these risks. Adolescent conduct problems were not associated with increased risks of unnatural/substance-related deaths in men or women in this representative sample.ConclusionsWhereas previous studies of high-risk delinquent or offender samples have highlighted increased risks of unnatural and alcohol- or substance abuse-related deaths in early adulthood, we found marked differences in mortality risk from other causes emerging later in the life course among women as well as men.

Abstract:
European-like life expectancy levels in Moscow are attributable to the prevalence of older population and the manifold increase in the working-age population mortality, especially among young people. The goal of the study is to identify the age-specific risk factors for Moscow youth mortality. This analysis is based on the official Russian Statistics Service’ data on mortality in the age groups of 15–24 and 25–34 years between 2000 and 2019. As demonstrated, during the study period, the Moscow youth mortality rates decreased twofold between both age groups. Starting from 2017, the mortality rate of Moscow youth began to increase, mainly among the 15–24-year-olds. The age vector of the youth mortality structure indicates a change in risk factors associated with age: while adolescents die from external causes, i.e. specific risks directly leading to death, later on youth mortality is more often associated with long-term behavioral factors indirectly resulting in death (such as sexual conduct as a risk factor for HIV/AIDS mortality, alcohol as the main cause for deaths from digestive system diseases and mental disorders, drugs as a risk factor for deaths from cardiovascular diseases and mental disorders). It is important to take note of the wide age range of the population classified as «young»: while it might be justified in legal and social context, in the demographic context it blurs the differences in mortality among people of different ages. Moreover, the abnormally high level and contribution of mortality from inaccurately described conditions, which the Moscow youth suffered from in the 2000s, calls into question the official rates of mortality due to underlying causes, primarily injuries, poisonings, and circulatory diseases. At the same time, given the increase in the young people’s overall mortality in the recent years, the extremely high mortality rates from inaccurately described conditions make it difficult to identify health priorities for the Moscow youth and, therefore, do not allow determining the reserves for their effective decline.

Abstract:
Traditional leaders in Oshikango perceive alcohol abuse amongst the youth as one of the greatest challenges of our time. Alcohol abuse amongst the youth is seen as an emergent concern in Namibia, which affects society in terms of high risk behaviours such as crime, violence, absenteeism, and school dropouts. This qualitative study was aimed at exploring and describing traditional leaders’ perspectives on the risk factors of alcohol abuse amongst the youth in Oshikango in the Ohangwena region of Namibia. In this qualitative study, in-depth, face-to-face interviews were conducted with traditional leaders by means of purposive sampling method. An exploratory research design was utilized. Permission to conduct the study was granted by the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture and ethical approval was obtained from the University of Namibia’s ethical approval committee. Participation was voluntary and based on informed consent. Data were collected with the aid of a semi-structured interview guide. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and field notes were taken. Thematic analysis was used to analyse and interpret the data. The main theme on social determinants revealed that a combination of risk factors, such as excessive alcohol abuse amongst the youth in Oshikango relate to loss of life; stealing; peer delinquents; peer pressure and that parental and familial substance abuse contribute a lack of good role models as well as youth capitalizing on the ignorance of their parents. The study concluded that these social determinants play a significant role in contributing to the risk factors of alcohol abuse amongst the youth in Oshikango. This study therefore recommends that in order to combat alcohol abuse amongst the youth, emphasis should be placed on strategies that address parental and familial alcohol abuse, low parental monitoring, peer norms, peer drinking, peer influence, peer delinquency, programme interventions on how to address these factors at individual, family and society level, as well as law reform and law enforcement.

Abstract:
As economies transition from industrial to post-industrial, the types of jobs available and employment conditions change. Research indicates that youth employment has been negatively impacted by these changes. For young people seeking to enter the labour market, particularly those combining employment and study, precarious employment has become the norm. However, precarious employment is, for many, no longer a stepping stone on the path to permanent employment. Many young Australians, even those with higher education qualifications, experience prolonged periods of precarious employment. To examine how new employment landscapes are experienced by young workers, we conduct analysis of data collected by the Life Pattern Project, a longitudinal mixed-methods study. Our results show that precarious employment is related to lower levels of job satisfaction and autonomy in young adulthood. JEL Codes: J20, J28, J41

Abstract:
This study endeavored to establish trends in the re-enforcing factor related to the consumption of alcoholic beverages among high school students in Liberia, using an experimental research design. A sample of 440 students from two selected schools was determined using Cochran’s formula. A sixteen item questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.70 was administered to the 440 students to identify those who drink alcohol. Applying G Power formula, 84 students were randomly selected out of the 170 students who drink alcohol as participants. Another validated questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.76 was used to collect data from the field. Descriptive statistics and t-test were used to analyze the data. The study concludes that the use of the Alcohol and Life Skills Training Model, which was employed to the experimental group is an effective educational tool to prepare students to make responsible decision about abstaining from drinking alcoholic beverages than the HIV/ AIDS Model which was employed to the control group. It is therefore recommended that the Government of Liberia should adopt the Alcohol and Life Skills Training Model into the National High School Curriculum in order to prevent and control the consumption of alcohol by students in high schools. Secondly, researchers and the Ministry of Education in conjunction with other Ministries such as Health and Youth should conduct further research on a wider scale on alcohol consumption among the youth, including the in-school and the out of school adolescents in Liberia.

Abstract:
In recent years much has been written about new immigrants to the us, and how they are adapting and adjusting to life within their new context. In the majority of these studies, attention has been given to examining residential patterns, employment trends, and the “coming of age” experiences of the second generation. What is noticeably absent however, has been the role that home life and religious institutions play within this process of adjustment/adaptation of the immigrants, especially for youth. In this paper, I will address this oversight by arguing that because the home and church contexts are constructed within a migration framework that also governs the lives of immigrants, they provide us with an important lens through which to examine the adaptation process. By analyzing qualitative research data collected amongst West Indian immigrant immigrants in New York City, I will propose that the home and religious contexts assist immigrants and the second generation in constructing and articulating matters of gender, while simultaneously shaping the way in which they live out their Christian faith and conduct mission in the wider society.

Abstract:
Health utilities relevant to children are lacking, compromising health funding and policy decisions for children. The Child Health Utility 9D (CHU9D) is a recently developed preference-based health utility instrument designed for use in children. The objective was to examine the validity of the CHU9D in a cohort of 285 Canadian children aged 6.5 to 18 years of age with Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), (collectively inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)). The correlation and agreement between paired CHU9D and Health Utility Index (HUI) assessments were determined with Spearman coefficients and Bland–Altman levels of agreement. Total and domain utilities were calculated for the CHU9D using Australian adult and youth tariffs. Algorithms for HUI2 and HUI3 were used. Domain correlations were determined between domains with expected overlap between instruments. In CD and in UC, correlations between CHU9D, HUI2, and HUI3 utilities ranged between 0.62 to 0.67 and 0.67 to 0.69, respectively (p < 0.05). CHU9D utilities were lower using youth tariffs compared to adult tariffs. A large range in health utilities suggested a heterogeneous quality of life. The CHU9D is a good option for preference-based utility measurement in pediatric IBD. Additional research is required to derive pediatric tariffs to conduct economic evaluation in children.
