Abstract:
Introduction: Qualitative research was undertaken to explore professionals’ experiences of cross-sector information-sharing about the mental health needs of young people in youth justice residences in Aotearoa New Zealand. Methods: Eight focus groups (N = 36) were conducted across Aotearoa New Zealand. Half of these were with case leaders from each of the four Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children – youth justice residences. The other half were with youth forensic service (YFS) clinicians who provide mental health services in each youth justice residence. Findings: The findings showed positive cross-sector relationships, despite a lack of policy around information-sharing in this context. Themes from case leaders included the practicalities of the residential environment (including restriction on young people’s freedoms and managing group safety), and case leaders’ brokerage role between competing theoretical frameworks in residence. Themes from YFS clinicians included the importance of cross-sector information-sharing for the assessment and discharge phases of mental health input. Overall themes included the impact of relationships on information-sharing, and the importance of including residential care team staff within information-sharing practices. A proposed model of information-sharing in this context has been developed. Conclusions: Effective information-sharing in youth justice residences is imperative to ensure that young people receive appropriate mental health input in residences, and that residence staff are supported to provide the best care for these young people. Social work has an important role within information-sharing practices with use of systems theory, translation of clinical jargon, and advocacy for the needs of young people involved in multiple systems.

Abstract:
COVID19 pandemic became the primer focus of health problem by the government since the case was increasing every month in 2020. The impact of this pandemic was spread quickly across many areas including Surabaya city. Youth generation often found to be a silent source of infection. Furthermore, young people behavior often ignoring health prevention policy makes the infection more easily to spread. This condition might be because of their knowledge regarding COVID19 was relatively not enough. Factor that may affect their knowledge are varies including knowledge of city of residence. This study aims to evaluate the correlation between knowledge about city of residence with youth generation knowledge of COVID19 as this factor has not yet been studied before in Indonesia. We conducted an analytical cross-sectional with an online survey for youth generation across Surabaya to understand their knowledge concerning Surabaya and COVID19. A total of 57 participants were voluntarily enrolled in this study. The result data were analyzed statistically. There is significant positive correlation between participants’ knowledge of Surabaya city with knowledge of COVID19 (r= 0.314; p= 0.017). Furthermore, knowledge of COVID19 was significantly different between youth who have better knowledge of Surabaya than lower knowledge (p= 0.021). Knowledge of Surabaya city was correlated with knowledge of COVID19. Youth who have better knowledge regarding their city of residence seem to have better knowledge of COVID19. Knowledge concerning city of residence proven to be important in order to increase knowledge of COVID19 in youth generation.

"Factors Associated with the Timing and Number of Antenatal Care Visits among Unmarried Compared to Married Youth in Uganda between 2006 and 2016." Abstract:
Antenatal care is an important determinant of pregnancy and childbirth outcomes. Although the youth disproportionately experience adverse maternal complications and poor pregnancy outcomes, including maternal mortality, timely and frequent use of antenatal care services among unmarried youth in Uganda remains low. This study examines the factors that are important predictors of the use of antenatal health care services among unmarried and married youth. Binary logistic regression was conducted on the pooled data of the 2006, 2011 and 2016 Uganda Demographic and Health Surveys among youth who had given birth within five years before each survey to examine the predictors of ANC use. This analysis was among a sample of 764 unmarried, compared to 5176 married youth aged 15–24 years. Overall, married youth were more likely to have more frequent antenatal care visits (56% versus 53%) and start antenatal care early (27% versus 23%) than unmarried youth. Factors significantly associated with use of antenatal care in the first trimester were education and occupation among unmarried youth, and place of residence and access to the radio among married youth. Key predictors of ANC frequency among unmarried youth were parity, education level, pregnancy desire, age group, sex of head of household and region of residence. Among married youth, significant predictors of ANC frequency were parity, pregnancy desire, occupation, access to the radio and region of residence. These findings will help inform health-care programmers and policy makers in initiating appropriate policies and programs for ensuring optimal ANC use for all that could guarantee universal maternal health-care coverage to enable Uganda to achieve the SDG3.

Abstract:
The article presents the analysis of the state youth policy as an instrument of influence on the state and social development of youth, its social activity. The contradictions that exist between the performance indicators declared by the state policy and the real problems of youth, determined by the living conditions, are indicated. Based on the results of all-Russian and regional sociological studies and statistics, the motives of migratory movements of youth from their territories of residence to the centers of gravity of the country and foreign countries that have more attractive living and employment conditions for youth are justified. Using the example of the Russian Far East, the dysfunctional consequences of the clerical-bureaucratic approach laid down in the state youth policy to quantify the state of youth ignoring its large-scale migration outflow from the territories of residence are substantiated. Scientific and practical recommendations on improvement of indicators of the state youth policy promoting strengthening of its role in providing the basic needs of youth in various spheres of activity, especially in development of youth business are offered.

Abstract:
This study explores the distribution of sexual orientations and examined disparities by sex and rural and urban residency of non-heterosexual youth, aged 15–24 years, in China. Data was derived from a 2009 nationally representative survey. Among 22 288 participants, 0.79% identified as homosexual, 1.47% identified as bisexual, and 4.26% were unsure about their sexual orientation. Compared with male youth and urban youth, female youth (adjusted odds ratio = 1.37, 95% confidence interval: 1.23–1.52) and rural youth (adjusted odds ratio = 1.23, 95% confidence interval: 1.09–1.40) were more likely to be non-heterosexual. More efforts should be made to enhance sex education and legal protection for non-heterosexual youth in China.

Abstract:
The study of globalization is one of the most relevant topics in the scientific community today. However, the most research is devoted to the study of global processes at the macro level, with the issues on how globalization influences an individual and local territorial communities being paid less attention to. Scientific novelty of the work is a proposed approach to study the influence of global processes at the meso-level, i.e. an intermediate level between an individual and the states. Studying the responds of the local residents on how the global processes transform their daily lives, allows us to assess the stability of social associations of people, which has a direct impact on the reproduction process of the local territorial community. The purpose of the study is to analyze the influence of global processes on the changes in the reproduction process of a local territorial community. The youth is one of the main actors who are highly influenced by the global processes. Besides, young people are able to identify the areas for the future development of their territories of residence. A series of focus groups was conducted in order to study the opinions of young people about the impact of global processes on their territory of residence. The results of the study show that the connection with the territory of residence for different groups of young people may vary. The study also revealed the presence of hybrid global-local identity of the young people, which implies both their active inclusion in the processes of globalization and the feeling of being part of a local community. This type of identity can be one of the ways to preserve the integrity of the community.

Abstract:
Youths in Japanese residential care institutions often face challenges with social adaptation and career trajectories. This study aimed to examine the risk factors that lead residential care youths in Japan to drop out of high school. Eighty-nine residential care facilities completed a questionnaire that focused on the characteristics of residing high school students, their educational status, experiences of maltreatment before residence, diagnosed disabilities, and the timing of admission. A sample composed of 773 youths was analyzed. Among the facilities, the high school dropout rate among youths in residential care was 19.3% (n = 149). Data revealed that the time of admission had the utmost significant effect. The risk of dropping out for youths admitted at junior high school age was significantly higher than for youths admitted before that age. Overall, residential care youths had a higher risk of not adapting to high school, and youths receiving short-term care demonstrated difficulty continuing high school. These results illustrate the importance of psychological treatment and educational support for youth who enter residential care during adolescence. Hence, attention should be focused on improving youth engagement in school to improve their social and career outcomes.

Abstract:
The article presents the main results of sociological research conducted by the authors over the past ten years, devoted to the problems of self-identification of the youth of the Khabarovsk territory and their life strategies. We have noticed that the state authorities of the country and the region are working to create favorable conditions for the life and development of young people, but this does not have a significant positive impact on changing their migration moods, which over the past three decades have been directed towards changing their place of residence to more favorable regions of Russia or more favorable countries. The conducted sociological studies revealed nine types of self-identification of the youth of the Khabarovsk territory, three of which turned out to be the most interesting from the point of view of migration strategies - this is the Far Eastern (regional) self-identification with a characteristic reduced migration potential and a predominant desire to live in the territory of the region; Russian (state) self-identification with an average migration potential and a desire to change their place of residence within the country to a more comfortable region and global (planetary) self-identification with a high migration potential and a craving for living abroad of our Homeland. Thus, we confirmed the main hypothesis of the study that the determination of the youth's migration strategy is largely determined by its identification with the territory of residence. In the course of sociological measurements, we also found five «social anchors» that have a greater impact on the regional self-determination of young people and their desire to develop here without resorting to changing their place of residence - these are social activity and participation in public activities, entrepreneurship, long-term residence by family clans on the territory of the Khabarovsk territory, the presence of a reproductive family and geographical knowledge of the region. The conclusions we have obtained in the research can be used to substantiate, make changes and evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of state programs aimed at implementing youth policy in the region, the purpose of which is to preserve (increase) the number of young generation in the region, as well as to create favorable living conditions and self-realization for them.

This study aims to analyze the student assistance within the university residences. It is known that with the reality of students, interpersonal relationships, the dreams and perspectives, or see in their area of living your day to day. The study was conducted through field research, from students to veterans and rookies in the period May-June 2007 in two university residences located in the neighborhood of the Center and the Campus I of UFPB in João Pessoa. To develop this research was necessary to define a sample of approximately 10%, twenty-four students from a universe of three hundred. Used as a tool to collect the form with open and closed questions, and analysis of data in the tables, the graphics in addition to desk research and literature search. The study suggests that assistance to students has been maintained through efforts punctual, not always sufficient, the units of community and student affairs of each institution. It is essential that the education policy includes assistance to students who really is unable to remain in college. The student assistance is important for achieving a higher level of training qualified. Therefore, this study aims to contribute not only new knowledge but also to broaden the debate on the issue of student assistance, as public policy, those who really need support for their academic and professional development.

Abstract:
This thesis aims to explore the mechanisms and dynamics that may affect, cause changes or strengthen the initial direction of the educacional trajectories of youngsters. In order to characterize the type of trajectory, we looked at the following factors: age-grade distortion, grade retention, expulsion and drop-out. We explored how the spheres of sociability of the youngsters - family, school, neighbourhood, work, social programs, church and leisure - are associated and affect their school trajectories. In addition, we investigated the extent to which events that occur throughout their life can affect their behaviour, their relationship with ties established in different spheres of sociability and, consequently, their educational trajectories. The analysis made in this study are qualitative. The following instruments were used: in-depth interviews, free conversations, participant observation and passive interaction observation. Although we limited ourselves to one school, we found heterogeneity among respondents in terms of individual attributes and socioeconomic and cultural dimensions, factors that influence school trajectories. However, we identified young people with similar socioeconomic characteristics and conditions but distinct paths. In these cases, the differences found can be explained by the relationship established with ties in spheres of sociability and the ways in which crisis situations were dealt with

Abstract:
This paper explores the processes and outcomes of “The Recipe of Me,” a digital storytelling residency whose goals were to foster autonomy and community among disadvantaged youth aged twelve to fifteen living in the Orlando Union Rescue Mission. Using on-site experience and data, I explore the possibilities and advantages digital storytelling offered the students living in this population and consider the challenges of creating digital stories specific to this site. This case study provides a portrait of the residency which outlines the phases, techniques, tools and approaches used to create the digital stories and empower youth to create using multiple literacies. In doing so, I intend to reveal the ways in which digital storytelling encourages community, autonomy, agency, and artistic voice within youth at Orlando Union Rescue Mission.

Abstract:
This case study of Covenant House, an emergency shelter for street kids in downtown Toronto, focuses on the experiences that draw kids into youth shelters and that drive them out. The analysis stresses the importance to street kids of feeling "cared for". Street kids were drawn to Covenant House because they felt cared for there by its open intake policy, appealing facilities (clean surroundings and good food), and staff who listened to and were interested in their problems. But residents were rather swiftly turned off by its rigidly enforced, elaborate and "uncaring' rule structure, and either walked out or got kicked out. Given the limited alternatives in Toronto's "shelter world", however, Covenant House has become the preferred choice for street kids who find themselves in a cycle of entering, leaving and returning.

Abstract:
Abstract The concept of creative tourism, which is increasingly established in the world tourism scene, is inspired by the sharing of production modes, projecting the visitor to the role of active participant. It focuses on an element that allows local residents and visitors to share space, time, and knowledge for co-creating products or, more than that, for enabling interpersonal experiences. Today we can share time with an artisan, appropriating his techniques, breaks, materials, impressions, and desires and redesigning the final product to our needs; we can learn traditional dances by temporarily integrating a folkloric ranch; we can fish and cook with a fishing community; or we can share a studio with visual artists to learn how to paint. Despite the multiple languages from which we expand our potential for expression the feeling of belonging to a group, community, context, or a more global society emerges in us. Within this sense of collective identity, of which we are a part and contribute to its co-creation, we review and renew our own desire and individual identities.

Abstract:
Abstract Continued rapid population growth in rural areas is a major challenge to future land access for all in Ethiopia. Landlessness is growing and farm sizes shrinking. This tends to erode the constitutional right of all rural residents without another livelihood option to access land for subsistence. With the recent land laws also stipulating minimum farm sizes, this also restricts inheritance rights of children living on small farms. It also restricts the opportunity to share land equally among spouses upon divorce. Co-management of land among divorced parents and children on small farms is also challenging. The result may be disguised fragmentation. Given the growing landlessness and inheritance rules and the need for alternative livelihoods for youth, we may wonder whether women are at a disadvantage in non-farm employment. Recent studies of a large sample of resource-poor rural youth that have been eligible to join youth business groups and have been allocated rehabilitated communal lands have female members that on average have fewer assets, lower incomes and less education than male members. They are also much less likely to own a mobile phone and to become group leaders or group board members. This shows that young women in Ethiopia continue to be disadvantaged and are among the most resource-poor and vulnerable. There is a need for more targeted policies to give them equal opportunities in the ongoing rural as well as rural-urban transformation processes.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the potential neighborhood effects of trailer park residence on child and youth development. Using parents’ aspirations that their children have broader life chances than they themselves had, this chapter documents the range of developmental trajectories among children and youth growing up in a rural trailer park. While a few flourish, most often, young people seem set on a course to reproduce their parents working poor class status. Increasingly in adolescence, as the social stigma of park residence emerges, there are developmental costs of park residence that compromises life chances.

Abstract:
This chapter examines income sharing by young adults living with their parents. Using data from EU-SILC 2010, the chapter explores the determinants of contributions to household expenses among young adults (aged 18–34 years) living with their parents in 17 European Union countries. The examination finds that income sharing in the household tends to attenuate income differences between household members and to help members with low resources. The results also show inequalities in young adults’ experience of co-residence with parents: young adults in low-income households tend to contribute more to the household than do those in higher income homes. In addition, the results show that the majority of young adults benefit from intra-household sharing of resources. There is, however, a minority of young adults whose income is lower when the actual extent of income pooling is taken into account in the calculation of equivalized household income.

The physical description of the Guanajuato of Alamán’s youth continues in this chapter. His early childhood education is discussed, and an early residence with his widowed mother in Mexico City. Scarcely had he returned to his native city when the independence movement broke out in September 1810. His relationship with the local power structure in Guanajuato is described, and his early acquaintance with Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. The fall of Guanajuato to Hidalgo’s insurgents in late September 1810, Alamán’s own account of his brush with death at the hands of the insurgents, and the question of whether he was traumatized by this experience are narrated. His very negative impression of the Mexico City elections under the briefly revived Spanish Constitution of 1812 closes the chapter.

Abstract:
Fiona Whelan and Jim Lawlor, based in Dublin Ireland, have been working together since 2004; Jim as Manager of Rialto Youth Project, a community-based youth service in Dublin’s south inner city; and Fiona as artist-in-residence there. Together, and in collaboration with a range of other partners in youth work, community development, the arts and beyond, their collaborative practice has been committed to a complex critical exploration of power relations at a personal, community and societal levels. In this conversation, they exchange and build analyses of prior arts processes that engaged young people and adults in open-ended dialogical enquiries into power and inequality. They also critically interrogate the values and methodologies at the core of those collaborations. As contemporary youth work and community development in Ireland becomes increasingly evidence-based and outcome-driven, Fiona and Jim debate and argue for an emergent approach to practice that is collaborative, open-ended, dialogical, and imaginative.

This chapter uses CIL4EU data to investigate strength of identification with the nation and with the ethnic group. It explores how these vary across ethnic and religious groups, generations, and destination countries and how far these differences can be explained by processes of social integration on the one hand or perceptions of being excluded on the other hand. The key findings are that young people with a migration background are less likely than those without a migration background to identify strongly with their country of residence. This holds true more or less irrespective of their ethnic group or religion. Differences between European and non-European minority groups, and between Muslims and members of other non-Christian religions were generally modest in size, rarely reached statistical significance and were dwarfed by the overall gap between minorities and the majority.

Abstract:
This chapter analyses the impact of implicit and explicit family welfare resources on young people's transition to economic independence, drawing on longitudinal data from the 1970 British Cohort Study and the 1997 US National Longitudinal Survey of Youth. In both the UK and the US, the commonly used measure of parental socioeconomic background was a factor that persisted and intensified as cohort members moved through a transition. Rather than inequalities reducing into adulthood, inequalities widened. Trends in co-residence and labour market insecurity in the UK mirror those of the US; therefore, the US evidence can inform both future research and policy formation in the UK. The empirical evidence suggests that if social policy in the UK is interested in supporting successful youth transitions across the income spectrum, the long-lasting imbalance created by unequal family resources will need to be addressed, beginning with a restructuring of the benefit system for low-income young people alongside structural changes to the youth labour market.

Abstract:
The development of agriculture and rural areas depends on a large extent on the level of society’s awareness on agriculture. One of the areas of agricultural awareness of citizens is their attitude towards the welfare of farmed animals. The findings of many studies indicate that the level of social awareness in Poland in this area is low, especially among young people. The aim of the study is to determine the attitudes of Polish academic youth towards the welfare of farmed animals and pinpoint selected factors determining this level. The main source of the data used for the analyses and applications was the primary information obtained from personal research. The research was done in 2016 by using PAPI method on the group of 450 people. The statistical analysis of the studied material encompassed aggregate statistical indicators as well as the non-parametric test „chi square” (χ2). Apart from the primary sources they also used secondary sources which encompassed both domestic as well as foreign literature. According to the conducted study, the majority of the participants had an average level of farmed animal welfare awareness (55%). One in three respondents had a low level of farmed animal welfare awareness, and the remaining group represented the high level. The determining factors were: gender, studied faculty, place of residence, and ownership of agricultural holding by the respondents or their parents. A higher level of farmed animal welfare awareness was characterized by women, students of humanistic faculties, people from rural areas as well as the respondents who didn’t run a farm.

Abstract:
The public prefers to express their opinions on the development of the surrounding area, make assessments and comments, as well as participate in surveys. However, the involvement of the public itself in improving the immediate surroundings and in solving the problems of its fellows is not always sufficient. The research aims to determine whether there are differences in public involvement in addressing municipal problems across various population groups within a municipality. The paper presents the results of an extensive survey. The research considered problems within one municipality in Latvia – Jelgava municipality – and analysed the rural territories located in the immediate vicinity of the centre of the municipality as well as those being the furthest from the centre. The results of the research revealed that young people were most satisfied with their lives in their municipality if their places of residence were closer to the centre of the municipality. The ability to influence the decisions of one’s own local government was highly valued by residents in the age group from 26 to 44 years in the rural territories that were in the immediate vicinity of the centre the municipality, yet this possibility was most often rated as weak among the youth living in the most remote rural territories from the centre of the municipality. Population involvement in solving a problem relevant to the society was the most frequently used way when the population requested a municipal employee to solve this problem. A large segment of the society in rural areas admitted that they did nothing, and this passivity was also evident in the group of young people who lived further away from the centre of the municipality. The involvement of the population in national-level public activities across all age groups and territories was quite equal, as the active population were involved in Saeima elections, campaigns for collecting signatures and donating various thing

Abstract:
The article is based on materials from a study carried out by employees of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2017–2019. The study was conducted among young people living in two small towns in Central Russia – Belev, Tula region and Staritsa, Tver region. The issues of local-territorial identity of young residents of the Russian province, their attitude to their native city and the local environment are analyzed. An analysis of the sociological survey data made it possible to conclude that at present, territorial identity and love for their city were characteristic of a considerable part of the provincial youth, but these indicators varied markedly. The prevalence of young people’s orientations towards their city decreased in more developed, urbanized, open cities, with a rolling stock of the local population, wider contacts with the ”outside world”, a higher level of education, etc. In less urbanized cities, local-territorial identity and love for their city were more frequent. At the same time, local residents experienced less satisfaction with living conditions and showed more pronounced migration activity.

Abstract:
The topic of public spaces and their importance in the formation of the urban environment is always relevant, since it is an integral part of the urban environment, which qualitatively affects the life of citizens. It is public spaces that carry out the interaction of people with the city. The more attractive they are, the more active the social life of the townspeople. In this topic, the authors of the article consider the public space as a part of the environment, it's qualitative impact on the city and residents, as well as existing problems in world practice and ways to solve them. Problems: the rapidly growing level of urbanization in the world; lack of an integrated approach to the improvement of the territory; lack of an adequate level of security in public places; empty parks and squares of the Soviet era and the absence of new public spaces in Russia; inconsistency of work between the city administration, private companies and citizens. Solution: introduction of a system of open public spaces; creating links between them in the form of alleys, boulevards and pedestrian streets; establishing a dialogue between the city administration and citizens; attraction of business to the development of territories; introduction of a pedestrian scale of the city.

Abstract:
The instrumentarium of this research is based upon the achievements of interpretive anthropology by C. Geertz and includes a number of our developments implemented within the concept of ethicizing mythological consciousness (a special component of the interdisciplinary system of four concepts which is being developed by us). These developments include: a) eight fundamental principles of Jewish upbringing which are implicit principles of upbringing (view of life, behavior) according to the Decalogue and are based on the concept of man and the Universe represented in the Ten Commandments; b) an interpretive ethnological model “The Decalogue and Harmonizing Hermeneutic Maxims of Obligatoriness: An Aspect of Upbringing.” The narratives by Raisa Lvovna Gandelman, born in 1903 in Chisinau, serve as materials for the study. Raisa Lvovna’s childhood and youth memories about the way her mother was treating her when the girl was sick, Ruhele’s recollections of her father, a proposal of marriage made to her at the age of seventeen, etc., are analyzed. The revealed hermeneutic maxims are identified as ethnocultural specificity of shaping the epoch of “new humanism in the 21st century” (UNESCO).

In 13th International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics (AHFE 2022). AHFE International, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.54941/ahfe1002156.

Abstract:
Slums are often associated with negativities in society including social vices, thievery and arm robbery due to the unsightly nature of the settlements, characterized with filth and insanitary conditions. However, slums provide accommodation for rural-urban migrants who are unable to afford the high cost of rent due to several factors including poor housing policy by government, high rental cost, financial difficulties, unemployment and poverty. This study aims at ascertaining the functional activities and survival strategies of slum dwellers in Ashaiman Municipality in Ghana. Ashaiman is a sprawling urban settlement, parts of which exhibit characteristics of a slum. It is a home to people from many ethnic groups within and outside Ghana who are all there to eke out a living. It also provides space for well organised and recognised professional, trade, ethnic, welfare and youth associations with formal structures and support systems to ensure good governance, compliance and reward systems. This study deployed a mixed method approach to collect quantitative and qualitative data from 490 respondents and 13 key informants in two slum communities; namely; Manmomo and Tulaku within Ashaiman Municipality. Interview schedule, interview guides and focus group discussion guides were used to collect data. Appropriate techniques were used to process and analyse the data. The results showed that the slum dwellers presented varied economic potentials as they contributed to the bustling 24/7 economy. The local economy was characterised by small and micro-scale activities in the informal sector. The municipal authority generated revenue through taxation in whatever form while the slum dwellers provided a strong voting block for politicians. However, the slums also provided the opacity needed for illegal activities. The slum residents operated in an under-served location with deficits in security, infrastructure, health and environmental sanitation. The survival strategies included social safety in terms of perception of historical and traditional ties, social acceptability, social network, security and business opportunities. The diverse characteristics, capacities, tenacity arising from survival experiences, adaptability, social capital, political clout in numbers, and youthful population contribute to make the slum communities in Ashaiman a place of survival. The main argument of the study is that slum dwellers demonstrate resourcefulness, thereby debunking their association with low levels of access to productive sources. It is therefore, recommended that the central government, local government, technocrats, the private sector and civil society groups should collaborate to enhance the potentials of the slum dwellers for local level development.

Sultana, Munawar. Culture of silence: A brief on reproductive health of adolescents and youth in Pakistan. Population Council, 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.31899/pgy19.1006.

Full text
Abstract:
Previous research on the reproductive health of adolescents and youth in Pakistan has not addressed the diversity of adolescent experiences based on social status, residence, and gender. To understand the transition from adolescence to adulthood more fully, it is important to assess social, economic, and cultural aspects of that transition. This brief presents the experience of married and unmarried young people (males and females) from different social strata and residence regarding their own attitudes and expectations about reproductive health. More young people aged 15–24 live in Pakistan now than at any other time in its history—an estimated 36 million in 2004. Recognizing the dearth of information on this large group of young people, the Population Council undertook a nationally representative survey from October 2001 to March 2002. The analysis presented here comes from Adolescents and Youth in Pakistan 2001–02: A Nationally Representative Survey. The survey sought information from youth aged 15–24, responsible adults in the household, and other community members in 254 communities. A total of 6,585 households were visited and 8,074 young people were interviewed.

Abstract:
Despite progress in COVID-19 vaccination rates overall in Cleveland, vaccine inequity persists as young people from minoritised communities are often less likely to be vaccinated. Despite being over-represented in COVID-19 case counts and fatalities, Black residents were under-represented in COVID-19 vaccination during the first year and half of the pandemic. In Ohio, while roughly 60% of Cuyahoga County residents are fully vaccinated, just 45% of Cleveland residents are fully vaccinated. Lower-income, majority Black, east side neighbourhoods have markedly lower vaccination rates compared to higher-income, mostly white neighbourhoods. Young people ages 16-40 became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on March 29th, 2021, and individuals aged 12 and above were able to get vaccinated from May 2021 onward. However, large disparities exist based age, race, and zip code. This brief illustrates underlying reasons shaping COVID-19 vaccine attitudes among minority (especially Black and Latinx) youth (ages 12-18) and offers key considerations for how young people can be better engaged within Cleveland, Ohio. This brief is based on research, including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with 61 young people across 16 neighbourhoods through a Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) approach in Cleveland to contextualise youth perspectives of COVID-19 vaccination and highlight areas of hesitancy and confidence. In this brief, we share findings from the study and key considerations for addressing youth ‘vaccine hesitancy’ around the COVID-19 vaccine are presented. Abstract:
The author undertakes a literature review of attitudes to water usage in Jordan. One survey was identified which assessed attitudes towards water conservation, sampling 2000 residents in three regions in Jordan (Irbid, Amman, and Zarqa) in 2017. According to the survey, only 61% of respondents believed there was a water shortage in Jordan. 23% believed the water shortage was due to population pressures. The survey focussed more on water conservation than water use. Most of the respondents felt the government were not doing enough on water shortage issues. They were not asked how they feel about the role of the government versus their individual responsibility. Older respondents perceived the shortages to be more critical. A lack of interest in participating in water saving activities was identified among the youth. Water quality was perceived as poor in the USAID survey and noted in other sources. The survey found that most residents had management strategies in place for the day that the water was delivered. Views about politics of regional cooperation and refugee pressure on water use potentially affect attitudes to water but this was not identified specifically within the scope of this report.
