Abstract:

Abstract This article evaluates the function of Yiddish-Hebrew creative diglossia in the work of Yosl Birshteyn, a prominent Israeli novelist and short-story writer, particularly in the “first Kibbutz novel” in Yiddish, Hebrew-Yiddish fiction based on the Israeli stock market crash, and the future of Yiddishism in Hebrew and Yiddish. In short, Yiddish acts as a layer of all texts as a fact of communal pain and uncertainty in past, present and future. Birshteyn’s Hebrew originals were translated back into Yiddish and his Yiddish work was translated into Hebrew by famous and representative hands with stylistic and linguistic consequences examined here.

Abstract:

The prophet Joel preached the message of repentance to the people of Judah and Jerusalem in his time so that they would turn to God. God's servants today must continue to preach repentance to the people they serve. The purpose of writing this article is to describe the news of repentance by Joel and its implications for the preaching of God's servants today. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive text analysis method in Joel 2: 12-17. In conclusion, God's servants today, in their ministry must always deliver news of repentance. Abstrak Nabi Yoel telah memberitakan tentang berita pertobatan kepada umat Yehuda dan Yerusalem pada masanya agar mereka berpaling kepada Tuhan. Hamba Tuhan pada masa sekarang harus terus memberitakan pertobatan kepada umat yang dilayani. Tujuan penulisan artikel ini adalah mendeskripsikan berita pertobatan yang dilakukan Yoel dan implikasinya bagi pemberitaan hamba Tuhan di masa kini. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis deskriptif teks pada Yoel 2:12-17. Kesimpulannya, hamba Tuhan pada masa sekarang, dalam pelayanannya harus senantiasa menyampaikan berita pertobatan.

Abstract:

The representation of Israel in the first-person singular (as an “I”) occurs sporadically in early liturgical poetry. This article examines the unusually complex use of this technique in the teqi‘ot liturgy of Yose b. Yose. Close analysis of Yose’s teqi‘ot situates his use of the collective first-person singular at the nexus of an array of performative elements, i.e., elements that construct the poems as performances, situated in space and time, and vis-à-vis an audience. The article contextualizes Yose’s achievement against the backdrop of the teqi‘ot of Yose’s predecessors and contemporaries, and those of his great successor, Qillir.

Abstract:

The population structure of the Philippines is young, but it is expected to age in the coming years. It is important to understand the well-being of older people to prepare policies that can ensure an adequate quality of life. Understanding the heterogeneity of a population is needed to guarantee that individual development is equitable. Years of Good Life (YoGL) is a novel indicator of well-being comprised of measures of good physical and cognitive health, being out of poverty, and being satisfied with life. Various measures were tested to determine which indicators best fit the stated dimensions of YoGL. Using the 2018 Longitudinal Study on Ageing and Health in the Philippines, observations show men aged 60 have a life expectancy of about 17 years, and YoGL was 14 years. Women of the same age have a life expectancy of 19 years, while the YOGL is 16 years. Among men and women aged 70 years, the YoGL was 7.9 and 8.6 years, respectively. Analyses show that for both ages and sexes, physical health was the dimension that decreased the number of good years. This study demonstrates the applicability of the YoGL methodology in investigating the well-being of subpopulations.

5595 Background: The majority of studies of uterine cancer combine high and low-grade histologies and do not sample a diverse cohort of patients. In many studies race is treated as biologic construct, when it may be better thought of as a proxy for socioeconomic inequity and deprivation. Socioeconomic (SE) deprivation may play a significant role in the disease trajectory of women with uterine cancer. Methods: Data were drawn from the Metropolitan Detroit Cancer Surveillance System which covers a tri-county area of approximately 4 million people. We included non-Hispanic Black (NHB) and White (NHW) women diagnosed with uterine cancer between 2010 and 2018. Poorly differentiated and undifferentiated endometrioid, serous, clear cell, mixed, carcinosarcoma and mucinous histologies were considered high grade. Patients diagnosed by death certificate, or with unknown stage or histology were excluded. Socioeconomic status was assessed using the Yost Score, an area-level composite measure of socioeconomic deprivation derived from census-tract data at cancer diagnosis. Lower Yost quintile indicates higher deprivation. Competing risk analysis was used to determine risk of uterine cancer specific mortality (reported as subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR]) and to assess statistical interaction between race and Yost score. Results: A total of 4,840 patients were identified. Race conferred significant increased risk of cancer-specific mortality (SHR 2.11, p < 0.0001). Race and Yost score interacted to increase risk of cancer-specific mortality in NHB women in the lowest Yost quintile (SHR 2.23, p < 0.0001) compared to NHW and NHB women in the highest quintiles. The interaction between race and Yost score persisted only among women with low grade cancers (SHR 1.7, p = 0.04). Time from diagnosis to surgery increased as Yost score decreased. Women in the lowest Yost quintile had lower likelihood of receiving surgery within 6 weeks of diagnosis (OR 0.74, p = 0.001). This effect persisted among women with low grade cancer (NHB OR 0.75, p = 0.014; lowest Yost quintile OR 0.68, p < 0.0001). An association between race, Yost score and delays in time to surgery was not seen among women with high grade cancers. Conclusions: Race and Yost score, an area-based measure of socioeconomic deprivation, are associated with increased cancer-specific mortality risk among women with low grade cancer. NHB race and high socioeconomic deprivation are associated with delayed primary surgery. The interaction between race and socioeconomic deprivation may underlie known disparities in uterine cancer survival, particularly in low grade disease where there is the greatest opportunity for timely curative surgery.

Abstract:

The big gap between the thermal conductivity of Si3N4 ceramics and the theoretical value of beta-Si3N4 single crystal implies that the low thermal conductive oxide grain-boundary phases in the ceramics possibly have a great influence on the thermal conductivity of the ceramics. In this work, yttrium chloride (YOCl) is introduced as sintering additive instead of the commonly-used Y2O3, in order to decrease the amount of the grain-boundary oxide; and the influence of YOCl on the sintering and the properties of Si3N4 ceramics was studied. Results show that YOCl additive can react with Si3N4 powders to form similar Y-Si-O-N grain-boundary phases just like Y2O3 while the Cl disappears during sintering. The thermal conductivity of the ceramics sintered with YOCl additive (85 W/m•K) increases about 15% as comparing with the ceramics sintered with Y2O3 additive, even though the relative density of the former reaches merely 97%. The microstructure of the sample sintered at different temperatures was investigated in the work, for elucidating the sintering process and the relationship between the properties and the microstructure of the YOCl added ceramics.

Abstract:

Sinema tarihinde bir tür olarak komedi ve yol filmleri dikkat çekmektedir. Özellikle sessiz sinema dönemi itibariyle komedi türü köklerini Antik Yunan dram sanatının bir türü olarak komedya ve fars geleneğinden almakla birlikte vodvil, burlesk, skeç gibi dram sanatının alt türlerinden ve Commedia dell’arte, parodi ile pandomim gibi oyun biçimlerinden de beslenmiştir. Merkezinde yol, yolcu, araç, seyahat, hareket, kimlik, kültür, özgürlük, dönüşüm, coğrafya vb. olan yol filmleri ise köklerini ağırlıklı olarak western türünden alır. Bazen komedi filmlerinin anlatısının yol ve yol hikayeleri merkezinde inşa edildiği görülmektedir. Bunun sonucu olarak karşımıza gerek komedi filmi gerekse yol filmi ögelerinden oluşan yol komedileri çıkmaktadır. Bu perspektiften bakınca Sinemada yol komedileri melez bir alt tür olarak görülebilir. Bu melez alt tür ile Türk sinemasında da karşılaşılmaktadır. Abstract:

Pedawa Village community, Banjar sub-district, Buleleng Regency has two kawitan namely kulit and kawitan lokal. Kawitan kulit that found in Pedawa Village is the general kawitan in Bali, meanwhile kawitan local of the Pedawa Village community refers to Yos which must be owned by all Pedawa Village communities. The Yos has a highly glorified God and the god closest to the community because the God is believed to be a protective deity, with the existence of the Yos the formation of social class in society. This reserach aimed to know the status and role of community members based on Yos, and to reveal the implications of Yos for the social structure of the Pedawa Village community. The results of the study revealed that there were 14 types of Yos. From several types of Yos, there are several members of community who have the status and role in a ceremony namely as Balian Desa, Premas, Headman, Janbangul, Pedewasan, and Sekaa Gong. Yos also has important implications and meanings toward the Pedawa Village community. The implications of Yos on aspects of the pedawa Village community belief system, besides the implications there are also meanings of Yos covering religious meaning, social meaning and cultural meaning.

ABSTRACTMany bacteria utilize actin-like proteins to direct peptidoglycan (PG) synthesis. MreB and MreB-like proteins are thought to act as scaffolds, guiding the localization and activity of key PG-synthesizing proteins during cell elongation. Despite their critical role in viability and cell shape maintenance, very little is known about how the activity of MreB family proteins is regulated. Using aBacillus subtilismisexpression screen, we identified two genes,yodLandyisK, that when misexpressed lead to loss of cell width control and cell lysis. Expression analysis suggested thatyodLandyisKare previously uncharacterized Spo0A-regulated genes, and consistent with these observations, a ΔyodLΔyisKmutant exhibited reduced sporulation efficiency. Suppressors resistant to YodL's killing activity occurred primarily inmreBmutants and resulted in amino acid substitutions at the interface between MreB and the highly conserved morphogenic protein RodZ, whereas suppressors resistant to YisK occurred primarily inmblmutants and mapped to Mbl's predicted ATP-binding pocket. YodL's shape-altering activity appears to require MreB, as a ΔmreBmutant was resistant to the effects of YodL but not YisK. Similarly, YisK appears to require Mbl, as a Δmblmutant was resistant to the cell-widening effects of YisK but not of YodL. Collectively, our results suggest that YodL and YisK likely modulate MreB and Mbl activity, possibly during the early stages of sporulation.IMPORTANCEThe peptidoglycan (PG) component of the cell envelope confers structural rigidity to bacteria and protects them from osmotic pressure. MreB and MreB-like proteins are thought to act as scaffolds for PG synthesis and are essential in bacteria exhibiting nonpolar growth. Despite the critical role of MreB-like proteins, we lack mechanistic insight into how their activities are regulated. Here, we describe the discovery of twoB. subtilisproteins, YodL and YisK, which modulate MreB and Mbl activities. Our data suggest that YodL specifically targets MreB, whereas YisK targets Mbl. The apparent specificities with which YodL and YisK are able to differentially target MreB and Mbl make them potentially powerful tools for probing the mechanics of cytoskeletal function in bacteria.

Abstract:

Introductions: In most children aged 1-36 months, the cause of a febrile illness is a self limiting viral infection. It is very difficult to distinguish these from serious bacterial infection. Objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of the Yale Observation Scale (YOS) to detect serious bacterial infection in febrile children aged 1-36 months.Methods: YOS scores were assigned as a part of a cross- sectional study in 100 children presenting in Tribhuvan University teaching hospital with fever to divide the child into well- looking if YOS ≤10 or ill- looking if YOS >10. Then the history, examination and necessary investigation was performed to come to a diagnosis of non- serious illness and serious bacterial infection.Results: Serious bacterial infection was found in 33(33%) of the patients. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values for a YOS score greater than 10 to detect serious bacterial infection were 45.45%, 88.05%%, 65.21% and 76.62%, respectively.Conclusions: A YOS ≤10 predicts non-serious illness while a YOS>10 does not necessarily indicate serious bacterial infection and should undergo further evaluation to confirm serious bacterial infection.
