Abstract:
AbstractThe Ultrasound Velocity Profiling (UVP) technique allows real-time, non-invasive flow mapping of a fluid along a 1D-measuring line. This study explores the possibility of using the UVP technique and X-ray video-fluoroscopy (XVF) to elucidate the deglutition process with the focus on bolus rheology. By positioning the UVP probe so that the pulsed ultrasonic beam passes behind the air-filled trachea, the bolus flow in the pharynx can be measured. Healthy subjects in a clinical study swallowed fluids with different rheological properties: Newtonian (constant shear viscosity and non-elastic); Boger (constant shear viscosity and elastic); and shear thinning (shear rate-dependent shear viscosity and elastic). The results from both the UVP and XVF reveal higher velocities for the shear thinning fluid, followed by the Boger and the Newtonian fluids, demonstrating that the UVP method has equivalent sensitivities for detecting the velocities of fluids with different rheological properties. The velocity of the contraction wave that clears the pharynx was measured in the UVP and found to be independent of bolus rheology. The results show that UVP not only assesses accurately the fluid velocity in a bolus flow, but it can also monitor the structural changes that take place in response to a bolus flow, with the added advantage of being a completely non-invasive technique that does not require the introduction of contrast media.

AbstractFor smooth functions a1, a2, a3, a4 on a quaternion Heisenberg group, we characterize the existence of solutions of the partial differential operator system X1f = a1, X2f = a2, X3f = a3, and X4f = a4. In addition, a formula for the solution function f is deduced, assuming solvability of the system.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Five N-(4-cyclopentylphenyl)haloalkanecarboxamides were reacted with 1-methylpiperazine and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine to give the corresponding N-(4-cyclopentylphenyl)piperazinoalkanecarboxamides Iab -Vab. Their reduction with lithium aluminium hydride afforded the triamines VIIab - XIab. Acylation of the N-(4-methylpiperazino)alkyl-4-cyclopentylanilines Xa and XIa with propionyl chloride resulted in the propionanilides XIVa and XVa, whereas a similar reaction of the N-(4-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazino)alkyl-4-cyclopentylanilines VIIb and IXb - XIb produced the propionoxypropionanilides XIIc - XVc. Ethanolysis of these compounds afforded corresponding hydroxypropionanilides XIIb - XVb. Many of the basic amides showed local anaesthetic and papaverine-like antispasmodic activity. The propionanilides XIIb, XIVc, and XVa proved interesting analgesic effects in the peritoneal test in mice.

Abstract:
Reactions of N-(6,11-dihydrodibenzo[b,e]thiepin-11-yl)chloroacetamide (II) with dimethylamine, morpholine, and 2-(1-piperazinyl)ethanol afforded the amino amides III-V. Substitution reactions of 11-chloro-6,11-dihydrodibenzo[b,e]thiepin with ethylenediamine and N,N-dimethylethylenediamine gave the diamines VI and VII. 6,11-Dihydrodibenzo[b,e]thiepin-11-amine (I) was treated with ethyl chloroacetate and ethyl 2-bromopropionate to give the amino esters X and XI which were transformed on the one hand to the acids VIII and IX, and to the amides XII and XIII on the other. (6,11-Dihydrodibenzo[b,e]thiepin -11-yl)methylamine (XVIa) and (10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene-5-yl)methylamine (XVIb) were transformed via the chloroacetamides XVIIa and XVIIb to the (4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)acetamides XVa and XVb. Compound V showed local anaesthetic and antiarrhythmic activity, the diamine VII had antihistamine and antireserpine effects, the amide XII was found to be an anticonvulsant, and the piperazines XVa and XVb inhibited effectively the formation of the indomethacin-induced gastric ulcers in rats.

Abstract:
Reaction of the silylated triazolone I with 2,3,5-tri-O-benzoyl-D-ribofuranosyl bromide afforded a mixture of the 4-ribosyltriazolone IXa and 2,3-diribosyltriazolone Xa. Under the same conditions the silylated 5-methyltriazolone II gives the 4-ribosyl derivative XIa and 2-ribosyl derivative XIIa. The 4-phenyl and 4-ribosyltriazoles VII, VIII, IXa and XIa were prepared by an alternative synthesis: cyclisation of l-ethoxymethylene-, l-(l-ethoxyethylidene)-4-phenyl- and 4-ribosylsemicarbazides XIII, XIV, XVa,b and XVIa,b in boiling hexamethyldisilazane in the presence of ammonium sulfate. The semicarbazides XIII, XIV, XVa,b and XVIa,b were obtained by reaction of 4-phenyl- or 4-ribosylsemicarbazide with triethyl orthoformate or diethyl orthoacetate. Compounds XIII and XIV were obtained as the (E)-isomers whereas compounds XV and XVI as mixtures of (Z)- and (E)-isomers XVa,b and XVIa,b, respectively. The benzylation of the triazolones I and II was also studied.

Abstract:
The article describes the results of a comprehensive pre-restoration study of an ascetic collection of the XV-XVI centuries (F.172 No. 3112 OR RSL) which was done to obtain an information about what impact does the nature and composition of ink have on the base paper of a manuscript. The collection contains the works of Vasiliy the Great, John Chrysostom, Cyril of Alexandria, Anastasius Sinait, Nikon of Montenegro, Simeon the New Theologian, etc. The text of the collection is written in dark ink of iron-gall nature on a number of sheets in the central part of which there is «lacy» fallout of the text. Damages of this kind are usually associated with the composition of iron-gall ink and inadequate storage conditions. Nevertheless, examination of the funds claims that so-called «corrosion» from iron-gall ink is only observed in part of the manuscripts. Some written monuments are badly damaged and their folia almost crumbled, while others are in excellent condition after centuries of their creation. The example of this collection shows that the nature and degree of the destruction depends not only on the composition of iron-gall ink and storage conditions. Even using the same ink composition, their degree of preservation can be different, since the nature and degree of damage depends on the nature and writing manner that affects a local concentration of ink components. It is also necessary to consider the composition and thickness of the support paper which also affects the ongoing processes.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the evolution of the imagery and perception of the miraculous in the South Asian countries during the Late Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period as they were described by two famed Venetian merchants and travellers in their reports: Niccolò de’ Conti (1439) and Cesare Federici (1587). Those examples can shed some light on how the traditional European view of the “wonders of India” was transformed during the 15th and the 16th centuries. Niccolò de’ Conti’s report was recorded by the prominent humanist Poggio Bracciolini. Conti saw the miraculous mainly in the religious practices of the region, he thought the Brahmins were philosophers, astrologers and sorcerers. Conti’s record contains ethnographically correct description of the trance state. Cesare Federici visited South Asia yet at the time of the Portuguese colonial Empire hegemony in the Indian Ocean. He considered various material objects as the curious and remarkable things. In general, the comparison of those two reports leads to the conclusion that the European stereotypes of the “wonders of India” gradually receded from the South Asian imagery in Europe.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the relationship between the Kazakh Khanate and Moghulistan in the 15th - early 16th centuries. In the historical literature, the Turkic-speaking tribes who lived in the XIII-XVII centuries were called moguls in the eastern part of the Chagatai ulus. In the middle of the XIV century Mogul tribes formed the state of Moghulistan, which included the territory of modern South-East Kazakhstan (Zhetysu), Kyrgyzstan and East Turkestan (XUAR of the PRC), Tashkent and Sairam. The early history of the Kazakh Khanate is also closely connected with the history of Moghulistan. The main source for the study of the relationship between the Kazakh Khanate and Mogulistan in the 15th - early 16th centuries is the famous historical work of Muslim historiography «Tarikh-i Rashidi», which written by the famous historian and Mogul politician Mirza Mohammed Khaidar from the Duglat (Dulat) tribe. His information was supplemented by materials from other Muslim historical works and compared with the results of special scientific research. Based on the analysis of historical materials, the author comes to the conclusion that the relationship between the Kazakh Khanate and Mogulistan in the 15th - early 16th centuries was peaceful and good-neighborly. For a long time, Kazakhs and Moguls even jointly opposed political opponents, until at the end of the 15th century a conflict arose between their rulers, which began to be settled at the beginning of the 16th century. However, the complete victory of Muhammad Sheibani Khan over the rulers of Mogul Sultan Mahmud Khan and Sultan Ahmad Khan in 1503 led to the fall of the Mogulstan. As a result, a significant land part of the Mogulistan became part of the Kazakh Khanate, the Mogul tribes remaining in this territory joined the Kazakh people, becoming one of its significant ethnic components.

Abstract:
The article discusses the court musical culture of Spain at the turn of the 15th16th centuries, its structure, functions (political and status), as well as the repertoire of the court chapel, which was formed and built under the influence of the chapels of the Burgundian dukes. Among the composers who created the choirs repertoire is Francisco Pealosa, who successfully assimilated and reworked the Franco-Flemish polyphonic style. The field of secular music is connected with polyphonic song (villanсiсo, romance, etc.), presented in manuscript collections (Cancionero). Particular attention is paid to the innovations of the musical-poetic style of Juan del Encina, carried out in line with the European humanistic tradition. The author of the article uses the methods of historical research based on the analysis of documentary sources (chronicles, documents of church chapters, etc.), allowing to recreate a relatively reliable picture. The novelty of the work is determined not only by its material, unknown in Russian-language literature, but also by the consideration angle taken, emphasizing the leading role of power structures (the aristocratic court) in the development of musical art and strengthening the authority of the artist.

Abstract:
Artykuł dotyczy folwarku Neuhof (Biedaszki) w XV-XVI wieku. W 1458 roku folwark został przekazany Wernhardowi Seyfersdorfowi, w XVI wieku stanowił na powrót własność krzyżacką, później należał do starosty z Kętrzyna (Rastemburga). This paper concerns the Teutonic Orden Folwark in Neuhof (nowadays Biedaszki, district Kętrzyn). In the 1458 Folwark became a private property of Wernhard Seyfersdorf. In 16th century Neuhof has become the property of the Teutonic Orden and after 1525 Folwark Neuhof belong to the starost of Rastenburg (Kętrzyn). Its appearance and furnishings are documented in medieval inventories, published in the collection of the Das grosse Ämterbuch des Deutschen Ordens. Much less is known about the Folwark Neuhof in the period after 1525. The inventory from the 1532 which is published here aims to fill this gap.

Abstract:
Starting from the bromo ketones VIIc, XIII, and XXIV and proceeding via the alcohols VIIIc, IXc, XIV, XVII, and XXVI, the olefinic compounds IIc (+ VI), Xc (+XI), XVc and XIXc(+XXc), and the saturated compound XVIc were prepared. The pairs of geometrical isomers were separated by crystallization of salts and the individual compounds Iic, Xc, XVc, XVIc, XIXc, and XXc were transformed by treatment with cuprous cyanide in hexamethylphosphoric triamide to the corresponding cyano compounds IIb, Xb, XVb, XVIb, XIXb, and XXb. Compound IIb was synthesized also from the ketone VIIc via the cyano ketone VIIb and the cyano carbinol VIIIb. The secondary amine IIIb was prepared from IIc by partial demethylation with ethyl chloroformate, the following hydrolysis to IIIc, protection of NH group with butyrolactone, the following treatment with cuprous cyanide, and deprotection by mild hydrolysis. The title compounds, which are the cyano analogues of antidepressants of the prothiadene series, showed in pharmacological and biochemical tests properties of potential antidepressants and more or less selective inhibitors of the 5-hydroxytryptamine uptake in the rat brain; at the same time they are rather strong central cholinolytics.

Abstract:
The surface layers resulting from prolonged exposure to the indoor environment and the bulk material of metal artifacts from the collection of National Museum in Gdansk are studied by means of spectroscopic techniques. The composition of the surface layers of the forged iron box lid covered with polychrome (XVI c.), and of the bronze female nude sculpture (antiquity) is obtained from the XRF and µ-Raman spectra. The elemental composition is confirmed by the LIP (Laser Induced Plasma) spectroscopic measurements. The quasi-nondestructive LIP technique applied for stratigraphic sampling performed with an accuracy of ca 2 µm across the multilayer surface coverage reveals such elements as C, Ba and Na in the uppermost layer. From coincidence of the XRF, Raman and LIP data the presence of surface contaminant CaCO3, the corrosion product FeO(OH) and patina Cu2 (OH)3Cl are concluded. It is shown that the complementary spectroscopic analysis allows for the in-depth study of the environmental impact on historical objects and delivers indications for the appropriate strategy of the planned conservation activities. Moreover, from the data collected from the technologies applied in the past, origin, provenance and routing of the artifacts can be concluded.

Abstract:
The Galician-Russian icons of Praise of the Virgin are interesting both due to their origin from the hymns of akathist worship, the circumstances of their appearance in the Galician-Russian lands (probably related to the Western Russian metropolitan Gregory Tsamblak), and their unprecedented abundance. This type includes the outstanding works of the 15th century belonging to the Przemysl School, the main icon-painting centre in Poland. In the 16th century small trading towns, primarily Sambir, housed icon-painters who created icons in the democratic version of the national icon-painting style, associated with the artistic achievements of the neighboring coreligious Moldova. The Lviv Renaissance affected all aspects of the spiritual life of Galician Rusins around 1600 during the events around the Brest Union (1596). A final episode of the twocentury history of Praise of the Virgin in its Galician version is presented in Fyodor Senkovich’s icon from the Ripnev village near Lviv, dated 1599. The Praise of the Virgin icons of the 15h – 16th centuries demonstrate the iconographic type transformation caused by the changes in the mentality of the Orthodox population in the east of the Polish Catholic state, indicating both involvement in the Balkan-Slavic church and cultural impulses, as well as general patterns of sacred art development.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The article is concerned with the problem of delimiting the Russian-Livonian frontier space in the area of Lake Peipsi (Chudskoe). The main contenders for it were Pskov and Dorpat, who had approximately equal potential. The Livonian Order, which did not have a fleet, could not provide direct assistance to Dorpat, but as Landsherr of Reval, who possessed a strong fleet, it was able to force him to assist him. It upset the balance of power in favor of Dorpat, since the potential allies of Pskov, Novgorod and Moscow, did not have a fleet on Lake Peipsi. In the struggle for Lake Peipsi, Pskov used the settlement and economic and administrative development of the Peipsi shores. In order to prevent the Pskovians from gaining a foothold in the coastal areas, the Livonian Order during the war of 1480-1481 carried out their “clean-up”, and also gained experience in mobilizing the forces of Dorpat, Reval and the Order for conducting combat operations using lake flotillas.

Abstract:
Reactions of 2-hydroxybiphenyl with α,ω-dibromoalkanes gave the 2-(bromoalkoxy)biphenyls IIIa-IIId. The 2-(dimethylaminoalkoxy)biphenyls VIa and VIb were transformed via carbamates VIIa and VIIb to the secondary amines Va and Vb. Their homologues Vc and Vd were obtained from the bromo compounds IIIc and IIId by treatment with methylamine. Bromo compounds IIIa and IIIb were reacted with 1-methylpiperazine, 2-(1-piperazinyl)ethanol, 3-(1-piperazinyl)propanol, and 4-amino-1-benzylpiperidine and gave the diamines VIIIa, VIIIb, IXa, Xa, Xb, and XIa. Addition of 2-hydroxybiphenyl to acrylonitrile afforded the nitrile XIIa. The homologous nitrile XIIb was obtained from the bromo compound IIIb and sodium cyanide in dimethyl sulfoxide. Nitriles XIIa and XIIb were reduced with aluminium hydride to diamines IVb and IVc. The nitriles were also transformed to hydrochlorides of the corresponding ethyl imidates XIVa and XIVb. Their hydrolysis resulted in the esters XVa and XVb. The acid XIIIa was obtained by acid hydrolysis of the nitrile XIIa; the acid XIIIb resulted from the acid hydrolysis of the ester XVb. The imidate XIVb was transformed to the amidine XVIb and to the dihydroimidazole XVIIb. Only the amine Vc showed properties indicative of potential antidepressant.
