Abstract:
Quantitative analysis of Na in minerals like feldspar in an Electron Probe Micro Analyser (EPMA) confronts two problems - the first one arising at the time of data acquisiton of Xrays of Na (say Kα) and the second one during conversion of measured xray intensity ratios into true concentration while using certain correction procedure The fall in the count rate of Na xray signals as a function of time under stationary electron beam in EPMA is quite well known. This was attributed to volatilization of Na during electron bombardment. Another explanation for this phenomenon has been that Na+ ions made mobile in the crystal lattice of feldspar by the electron beam, move away from the point of its impact. This results in the fall in the count rate of Na with a corresponding increase in me count rate of matrix element like Si, Al.

Abstract:
Abstract OBJECTIVES To investigate the setup accuracy in stereotactic radiosurgery based on Exactrac Xray image guide system for intracranial neural tumors in patients aged between 3 and 14 years, and to discuss the related influence factors. METHODS Thirty seven patients with intracranial neural tumors, at the age of 314 years old, who were admitted to Guangdong Sanjiu Brain Hospital between March 2017 to January 2019 were enrolled in this study. After automatic setup with infrared markers, Exactrac Xray image guide system was applied to obtain the image of bilateral oblique intersection field, which were then registered with the field image digitally reconstructed with planning system, so as to obtain the translational errors in LAT (X), LNG (Y), VRT (Z) directions and the corresponding rotational errors. RESULTS After the positioning with Exactrac Xray image guide system and sixdimensional couch, the translational errors of all 37 patients in LAT, LNG, VRT directions were (0.26±0.13), (0.17±0.13), (0.15±0.11) mm, respectively, and the corresponding rotational errors were 0.21°±0.15°, 0.18°±0.15°, 0.18°±0.14°, respectively. The space vector error was (0.32±0.16) mm; translational errors were all less than 0.5 mm; rotational errors were all less than 0.5°. All of these errors were less than specified values and in accordance with the requirements of SRS. CONCLUSION Using Exactrac Xray image guide system and sixdimensional couch can remarkably improve the accuracy of SRS for intracranial neural tumors in patients aged 314 years. Exactrac Xray image guide system is worthy of application in the clinic.

Abstract:
Cryo-cooling of protein crystals is not often used in neutron crystallography. However cryo-temperatures are used to block the reaction processes at specific intermediate stages, and this has been widely used in X-ray studies (1); (2). In order to develop this area for joint neutron/X-ray applications, trypsin was chosen as a suitable system for which its interaction with the substrate succinyl-Ala-Ala-Pro-Arg-p-nitro-aniline could be studied (3). Here the neutron developments were carried out in parallel with complementary X-ray techniques, and also using in crystallo UV-visible and Raman spectroscopy. Various strategies for doing this have been tested. The installation of an N2-gas-cryostream system on the D19 single crystal diffractometer at the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) and the development of a new carboloop mounting system, has opened new avenues to perform cryo-cooling experiments using a neutron source. Preliminary data collection carried out at the ILL and at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), have confirmed the feasibility of the approach. A full description of the experimental procedures and results will be presented. As part of this a new carboloop mounting system has been developed that is suitable for both X-ray and neutron data collection. These mounts resolve the problems of activation and hydrogen incoherent scattering in neutron experiments We describe the use of these and their advantages over conventional X-ray mounting systems - including compatibility with standard magnetic goniometer heads and resistance to cryogenic temperatures.

Abstract:
We prepared the magnetic cenospheres deposited with magnetite Fe3O4nanoparticles under hydrothermal conditions. The crystalline phase, magnetization properties, morphology, chemical composition and thermal stability of asobtained cenospheres are analyzed by Xray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometer, scanning electron microscope, Xray energy dispersive spectroscope, transmission electron microscope, thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry techniques. The results show that the inverse cubic spinel phase of Fe3O4nanoparticles with an average size 50 nm are synthesized, and synchronously deposited on cenosphere surface. As the thickness of Fe3O4coating increases, the saturation magnetization increases to some extent. The growth of Fe3O4nanoparticles can be controlled by adding ethanol to the reaction solution.

Abstract:
In the late 1980s, a new X-ray focusing system, X-ray lens, capable of adjusting and controlling high power, white X-ray beams, has been created. This X-ray lens can collect X-rays in a large angle range, increasing the utilization efficiency of an Xray source. It can focus X-rays into a small spot, improving X-ray power density 104 to 106 times when compared to the same source at the same distance without the focusing system. It can also transfer diverging X-ray beam to a nearly parallel one. These properties make the focusing system potentially useful in many Xray applications.

Abstract:
We studied the pressureinduced unfolding and refolding of monomeric proteins, such as SNase, αchymotrypsin and ubiquitin, by using synchrotron Xray smallangle scattering and Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy, which monitor changes in the tertiary and secondary structural properties of the proteins upon pressurization. Furthermore, by using the pressurejump relaxation technique in combination with timeresolved Xray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy, the kinetics of the unfolding/refolding of the proteins, was investigated. Significant differences in secondary structure and chain compactness in the folding/unfolding reactions of these proteins are observed. The results are compared with data obtained from other methods of denaturation, such as heat and pressure-assisted cold denaturation. The cold- and pressure-induced unfolding both yield a particularly unfolded state characterized by a persistent amount of secondary structure.

These coatings were obtained in galvanostatic conditions, at the current density of -0.100 A cm-2. Thermal treatment of these coatings in argon atmosphere was done at temperature of 1100oC for 1 hour. A scanning electron microscope was used for surface morphology characterization of the coatings. Chemical composition of obtained coatings was determined by Xray fluorescence spectroscopy method and phase composition investigations were conducted by Xray diffraction method. It was found that introduction of molybdenum and silicon into nickel matrix, causes of obtained coatings about very rough surface. Thermal treatment of these coatings influenced their surface. The surface after thermal treatment is more compact and less rough than the as-deposited one.

Abstract:
In medical radiology there are large amounts of digital images in hospitals and health centers. Equipment that enables the acquisition of medical radiographs uses X-radiation sensor plates for image acquisition in medical diagnosis. Medical radiology equipment uses anti-scatter grids, which are physical devices, to avoid unwanted effects on imaging. In the present work, we analyse from a qualitative point of view the radiation scattering effect that is caused in images without the presence of the anti-scattering grid. In this research, the acquisition of radiological images was made by means of X-ray equipment with an anti-scattering grid, capturing images without scattering and others that only present radiation scattering as a point of comparison. The methodology uses the Wavelet transformation to image characterization in segment process that define the regions that affect the different types of dispersion presented in X radiation. The tool used for the analysis of the images is the multi-resolution Wavelet transform, specifically the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The methodology was applied to different 2D radiological images in shades of gray. In the images used, it showed a robustness in the differentiation of X radiation incidence zones. This work is the beginning of a distortion analysis for the reconstruction of this type of images.

Abstract:
The aim of present work is to synthesis and study the structural properties of Al doped Ni-Cd ferrites, series by ceramic method. The samples are sintered at a temperature of 1100 C with sintering time of t=9, 11, 13, 15 hrs. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive Xray analysis and Fourier transform-Infrared. The single phase simple cubic spinel structure is confirmed by Xray diffraction patterns. The lattice parameter is found to be in the range of 8.478 Å - 8.481 Å. The uniform size distribution is observed in the scanning electron microscope micrographs. The elemental analysis is done by energy dispersive X-ray analysis confirming the presence of all the metal ions present in the ferrite formula. Fourier transform-Infrared spectra showed two bands υ1 (581-582 cm-1 ) and υ2 (less than 400 cm-1 ) which are attributed to metal oxygen bond vibrations at tetrahedral and octahedral sites respectively.

Abstract:
In this study, nanozeolite L was applied for the removal of toxic methylene blue dye (MB) to evaluate its feasibility as an effective adsorbent. Synthesized nanozeolite L was characterized by Xray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), and energy-dispersive Xray analysis (EDX) methods to determine its basic physicochemical properties. Batch adsorption studies were performed as a function of pH, adsorbent dose, contact time, initial MB concentration, and temperature. The adsorption behavior of MB was fitted better by the Langmuir isotherm than by the Freundlich isotherm, and the maximum adsorption capacity of nanozeolite L was obtained 80.64 mg g–1. The negative values of Gibbs free energy change (ΔG°) and the positive value of the standard enthalpy change (ΔH°) affirmed that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. Based on these findings, nanozeolite L, with high surface area, great adsorption capacity, and low synthetic cost, can be an effective and economical adsorbent for MB removal.

Background A variety of professions (airport security, radiology, the military, etc.) rely on visual search performance—being able to detect targets. Given the importance of such professions, it is necessary to maximize performance, and one means to do so is to select individuals who excel at visual search. A critical question is whether it is possible to predict search competency within a professional search environment. Method Professional searchers from the USA Transportation Security Administration (TSA) completed a rapid assessment on a tablet-based X-ray simulator (XRAY Screener, derived from the mobile technology app Airport Scanner; Kedlin Company). The assessment contained 72 trials that were simulated X-ray images of bags. Participants searched for prohibited items and tapped on them with their finger. Results Performance on the assessment significantly related to on-job performance measures for the TSA officers such that those who were better XRAY Screener performers were both more accurate and faster at the actual airport checkpoint. Conclusion XRAY Screener successfully predicted on-job performance for professional aviation security officers. While questions remain about the underlying cognitive mechanisms, this quick assessment was found to significantly predict on-job success for a task that relies on visual search performance. Application It may be possible to quickly assess an individual’s visual search competency, which could help organizations select new hires and assess their current workforce.

Abstract:
Background: Transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTNB) is one of the most common causes of perinatal dyspnea and is traditionally diagnosed by chest x-ray. Lung ultrasound is an upcoming tool which is being proved in recent studies to have a better diagnostic capability with the main characteristic feature being the Double Lung Point. Aims & objectives: To define ultrasonographic appearance of TTNB, evaluate its clinical relevance for early diagnosis and compare the outcome with xray and to assess the diagnostic ability of Double lung point.Subjects and Methods:All newborns presenting with tachypnea within 4 hours of life in 1 ½ years of study period. (November 2017-May 2019) were enrolled for study. Methods of collection of data: All newborns fulfilling the inclusion criteria were included as study subjects, At same time CHEST XRAY and LUS were done. Statistical analysis: Fisher’s exact test was used as test of significance for qualitative data. Continuous data was represented as mean and standard deviation. Mann Whitney U test and Kruskul-wallis test was used for subgroup analysis. P value of <0.05 was considered as statistically significant.Result:In study period of 1 ½ years 99 cases which were admitted in NICU with respiratory distress meeting the criteria were included. 60 cases were diagnosed to have TTNB, 34 RDS & 5 Pneumonia. Chest xray and Lung ultrasound (LUS) of these 60 TTNB cases were compared . LUS of TTNB and other cases was also compared for presence of double lung point (DLP). The sensitivity & specificity of DLP in diagnosis of TTNB was noted to be 68 % & 100 % respectively with 100 % Positive predictive value. Thus confirming LUS to be a more reliable diagnostic tool than x-ray.Conclusion:Therefore LUS could be used widely in NICU as 1st line of diagnostic medium in diagnosis of various respiratory conditions and early initiation of treatment accordingly.

Abstract:
Suitable protected 4,4a-anhydro-cyclopentane derivatives have been used for the straightforward of cyclopentanoid nucleoside precursors. Thus, by simple transformations nucleoside precursors modified at the positions C(4), C(4a) and C(4,4a) as well as side-chain modified derivatives were accessible. The structures of the key intermediates were determined by xray analyses.
