Abstract:
Using the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model, this cross-sectional study tests whether the direct effects and interaction effects of job demand and motivators affect the level of perceived stress among information technology (IT) consultants. A web-based questionnaire survey was conducted among 380 IT consultants at ten IT consultancy companies in Sweden. The results showed that job demands, autonomy, and motivators are important factors that explain perceived stress among the IT consultants. Those consultants with a high level of job demands and a low level of autonomy had a four times higher risk of perceived stress than the consultants with the theoretically lowest level of strain. However, the interaction effect of job demands/autonomy and the interaction effect of job demands/motivators on perceived stress were non-significant. It is suggested that IT consultants’ autonomy exists within the demands dictated by others - Theory Y embedded in Theory X. Future avenues for research are suggested.

Abstract:
The effects of welding residual stress (WRS) would be harmful to safety and intensity of pressure vessel. X-ray stress analyzer (XRSA) can be used to non-destructively quantitative analyze WRS. In this study, stress changes of constant stress beam in loading process were tested using strain gauge (SG), strain rosette (SR) and XRSA, and their test results were compared to analyze measurement errors of XRSA. It was found that the property of XRSA meets the experimental requirement. The machining stress in surface of welding test plate could be completely removed after 4 min electrolytic polishing under 1 A current and 100% NaCl electrolyte. The WRS of welding test plate was tested by XRSA after machining stress completely removed, and its distribution along vertical welding seam direction corresponded with theory calculation. Furthermore, XRSA as a non-destructive method will be more used to study WRS of pressure vessel, so these results can provide scientific basis for the studying.

Abstract:
Cold stress at seedling stage is a major constraint in boro rice production. Nine boro rice lines were crossed in diallel fashion excluding reciprocals to obtain 36 crosses. All the 36 crosses along with parents were grown in nursery in three seasons (boro-2014, kharif-2015 and boro-2015). Performance of seedlings for survival per cent, chlorophyll content, relative water content, membrane stability index was recorded just before transplanting in all the three seasons. Scoring for cold tolerance was done in both boro seasons. Gautam showed highest survival rate over three seasons. Among crosses, IR 64 x Krishna Hamsa showed highest survival (84%) in boro-2014, MTU 1010 x Jaya (86.33%) in boro-2015 and MTU 1010 x Krishna Hamsa (95.67%) in kharif-2015. Jaya x Krishna Hamsa was most cold tolerant cross over both boro seasons. Significant positive correlation was observed among survival per cent, chlorophyll content, relative water content and membrane stability index over seasons.

Abstract:
The results presented in this paper are part of a process to analyse systematically the sources of uncertainty in X-ray stress determination. They concern one part of the effects of temperature variations which could intervene either as random fluctuations or as a monotonic drift during the acquisition. The proposed formulation is in agreement with the recommendations of the ISO guide on the expression of uncertainty (GUM). It was found that the effect is usually negligible for laboratory experiments which are often temperature controlled and for most materials. However the uncertainty can reach 20 MPa for austenitic steels and a temperature drift of 2 K.

Abstract Ion implantation is known to increase the lifetime of cutting tools. Current theories are the increase in lifetime is caused by an increase in the residual stress, or by work hardening of the surface associated with the implantation. In this work the effect of ion implantation on the residual stress in titanium nitride coatings made by the standard industrial methods of chemical and physical vapor deposition (CVD and PVD) is studied. It is found in the as-received condition (unimplanted), the residual stress levels are near zero for CVD materials and highly compressive, of the order of 6 GPa, for PVD materials. Ion implantation has no effect on the residual stress: in the coatings made by CVD. Nitrogen does increase the compressive residual stress by some 10% in the near surface regions of PVD coatings, while nickel-titanium dual metal ion implantation does not have any effect. It appears that the lifetime increase is not associated with residual stress effects.

In order to reduce the residual stress of the GH4169 alloy, the effect and micro-mechanism of the tensile deformation were studied. The residual stress, dislocation density, and distribution of the GH4169 alloy were analyzed by X-ray residual stress tester, X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The results show that: with the increase of tensile deformation, the residual stress relief first increases and then decreases. When the tensile deformation is 3%, the reduction rate of residual stress reaches the maximum, which is 90%. The mechanism of residual stress relief by the tensile treatment is that the dislocation group in the alloy is activated by tensile treatment, and the dislocation distribution in the alloy is more uniform by dislocation movement, multiplication, and annihilation so that the residual stress can be eliminated.

We have investigated the lattice diffusion of B and Sb by means of molecular beam epitaxy in Si1−xGex (x < 0.2) layers grown on Si(001) substrate. Using Si1−xGex relaxed buffers we were able to differentiate the chemical effect (change in the Ge composition) as opposite to the biaxial stress effect (due to the epitaxy on Si) on dopant diffusion. B diffusion follows a behavior opposite to Sb diffusion versus Ge composition and biaxial stress. These results are explained in view of the difference of diffusion mechanism between B (interstitials) and Sb (vacancies). We also show that dopant diffusion follows contrasting behaviors under biaxial pressure and hydrostatic pressure, and that the activation volume of dopant diffusion is of opposite sign for biaxial pressure and for hydrostatic pressure. This is explained using a formalism based on the extra work done by the system for diffusion under pressure, concluding that for biaxial stress the activation volume depends mainly on the relaxation volume linked to the defect formation.

Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species are produced by the human immune system in response to infection. Methods to detoxify these reactive species are vital to the survival of human pathogens, such as Neisseria meningitidis, which is the major aetiological agent of bacterial meningitis. Following activation, macrophages produce superoxide (O2−), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide (NO). The toxicity of O2−, generated using X/Xo (xanthine/xanthine oxidase), and H2O2 was investigated in the presence and absence of the NO donor DEA-NONOate [2-(N,N-diethylamino)-diazenolate-2-oxide diethylammonium salt]. Most of the toxicity from X/Xo was due to H2O2. In N. meningitidis, NO decreased the toxicity of the H2O2. In contrast, in the enteric bacterium Escherichia coli, NO increased the toxicity of the H2O2.

To improve the shape memory effect (SME) of 304 austenitic steel effectively and efficiently, thermomechanical cycling, comprising deformation at room temperature and annealing, was applied. The influences of cycle number and annealing temperature on the SME and microstructures in 304 austenitic steel were investigated by light microscope (LM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The shape recovery ratio was remarkably improved from 16% to 40% after two thermomechanical cycles. The optimum annealing temperature was 833 K in the process of thermomechanical cycling. The improved SME by thermomechanical cycling was mainly related to stress-induced ε martensite rather than stress-induced α’ martensite. The reason is that thermomechanical cycling can not only promote the occurrence of the stress-induced γ→ε martensitic transformation, but also suppress the subsequently stress-induced ε→α′ transformation.

Superplastic deformation was studied in fine-grained (0.7–1.1 μm) YBa2Cu3O7–x/Ag composites containing 2.5–25 vol% Ag. The compression tests were conducted in the temperature range of 750–875 °C and at strain rates of 10−5 to 10−3/s. For the YBa2Cu3O7−x/25%Ag composites with grain size of 0.7–1.1 μm, deformed at 800–850 °C and 10−5 to 10−3/s, the stress exponent, grain size exponent, and the activation energy of deformation were 2.0 ± 0.1, 2.5 ± 0.7, and 760 ± 100 kJ/mol, respectively. These values were the same as those of the pure YBa2Cu3O7−x, indicating that the deformation of the composite was controlled by that of the rigid YBa2Cu3O7−x phase. However, the strain rate was increased by the addition of silver as explained by the soft inclusion model of Chen. The dependence of the flow stress on the silver content was in close agreement with the prediction of the model.

In this paper, surface residual stress in the cold working tool steel (Cr12MoV) by EDM was investigated by X-350 X-ray residual stress analyzer and method of DJP-2 electrolytic polishing instrument to remove layer by layer in the different EDM conditions. The results show that the distribution of surface residual stress generated not only by the peak discharge current and pulse width, but also by pulse interval. The same depth from the surface, residual stress of material after hardening is larger than the residual stress after annealing, With the different combination of tool electrode and work-piece material, the form of the discharge between two electrodes and the proportion of energy put between two electrodes are different, surface residual stress are also different. Different processing liquid for processing, the depth of residual stress generated is much the same, but closer to the surface, the worse the cooling capacity (quench degrees) and surface physical properties of processing fluids, the greater the residual stress. EDM, the generation and control of the surface residual stress depends on the choice such as processing power criteria, work-piece material, electrode materials and processing liquid. Surface residual stress after processing can be used to eliminate high-temperature heat treatment.

Si-based strained technology is currently an important topic of concern in the microelectronics field. The stress-induced enhancement of electron mobility contributes to the improved performance of Si-based strained devices. In this paper, Based on both the electron effective mass and the scattering rate models for strained-Si1-xGex/Si (101), an analytical electron mobility model for biaxial compressive strained-Si1-xGex /Si (101) is presented. The results show that the stress doesn’t make the electron mobility increased, but the electron mobility for [100] and [001] orientations decrease with increasing Ge fraction x, especially for [010] orientation expresses a sharp decrease. This physical phenomenon can be explained as: Although the applied stress (the higher the Ge fraction, the greater the applied stress) can enhance the electron mobility, alloy disorder scattering rate markedly increase. Overall the electron mobility decreases instead. The above result suggests that not all the mobilities for Si-based strained materials enhance with the stress applied. For the biaxial strained-SiGe material represented by Ge fraction, the effect of alloy disorder scattering on the enhancement of mobility must be concerned. The result can provide theoretical basis for the understanding of the improved physical characterizations and the enhanced mobility for Si-based strained materials.

As the key components of grating-based X-ray phase contrast imaging, absorption gratings are essential to be fabricated. In fact, the internal stress is one of the critical issues for the application of the electroplated gold deposit as the absorption metal for absorption gratings. It is common that high internal stress levels can cause the deposit cracking, blistering and peeling away from the substrate material. This study investigates the effect of current density on the internal stress by the bent strip method. The surface morphologies of gold deposits are examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the crystal structure of the electroplated deposit is analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The change of current density reverses the internal stress of the deposits from compressive to tensile. The value of deposit stress can be near zero by optimizing the current density.

Due to increased heavy metal content in Ukrainian soils, purpose of the work was to study relations between presence of heavy metals in soil and their effect on development of phytoviral infection. Experiments were conducted in Nicotiana tabacum – Potato virus X model system. Soluble salts of Cu, Zn and Pb were deposited in soil separately at the limiting concentrations simultaneously with virus infection of plants. Infected plants grown on usual soil showed symptoms of disease on 16 dpi as well as plants grown on soil with metals deposited. Contrary, combined effect of heavy metals and virus infection caused an increase of chlorophyll content comparing with control plants, therefore effect of heavy metals partially compensated the effect of virus infection on experimental plants.

The hemodynamic effects of three different infusion rates of epinephrine (25, 50, or 100 ng X kg-1 X min-1 for 14 min) were examined in 10 normal human subjects. Ejection fraction and changes in cardiac volumes were assessed by radionuclide ventriculography. Plasma epinephrine was increased to levels that spanned the normal physiological range (178 +/- 15, 259 +/- 24, and 484 +/- 69 pg/ml, respectively). Epinephrine infusions resulted in dose-dependent increases in heart rate (8 +/- 3, 12 +/- 2, and 17 +/- 1 beats/min, mean +/- SE) and systolic pressure (8 +/- 1, 18 +/- 2, and 30 +/- 6 mmHg). Although epinephrine infusions had minimal effects on end-diastolic volume, there were significant increases in stroke volume (+26 +/- 2, 31 +/- 4, and 40 +/- 4%), ejection fraction (+0.10 +/- 0.01, 0.14 +/- 0.02 and 0.16 +/- 0.03 ejection fraction units), and cardiac output (+41 +/- 4, 58 +/- 5, and 74 +/- 1%). These increases in left ventricular performance were associated with a decreased systemic vascular resistance (-31 +/- 3, -42 +/- 2, and -48 +/- 8%). Supine bicycle exercise resulted in similar plasma epinephrine levels (417 +/- 109 pg/ml) and similar changes in stroke volume, ejection fraction, and systemic vascular resistance but greater increases in heart rate and systolic blood pressure. Since infusion-associated hemodynamic changes occurred at plasma epinephrine levels commonly achieved during many types of physical and emotional stress, epinephrine release may have an important role in regulating systemic vascular resistance, stroke volume, and ejection fraction responses to stress in man.

Abstract:
Superlattice-like (SLL) phase-change film is considered to be a promising phase-change material because it provides more controllabilities for the optimization of multiple performances of phase-change films. However, the mechanism by which SLL structure affects the properties of phase-change films is not well-understood. Here, four SLL phase-change films [Ge8Sb92(15 nm)/Ge (x nm)]3 with different x are fabricated. Their behaviors of crystallization are investigated by measuring sheet resistance and coherent phonon spectroscopy, which show that the crystallization temperature (TC) of these films increases anomalously with x, rather than decreases as the interfacial effects model predicted. A new stress effect is proposed to explain the anomalous increase in TC with x. Raman spectroscopy reveals that Raman shifts of all phonon modes in SLL films deviate from their respective standard Raman shifts in stress-free crystalline films, confirming the presence of stress in SLL films. It is also shown that tensile and compressive stresses exist in Ge and Ge8Sb92 layers, respectively, which agrees with the lattice mismatch between the Ge and Ge8Sb92 constituent layers. It is also found that the stress reduces with increasing x. Such a thickness dependence of stress can be used to explain the increase in crystallization temperature of four SLL films with x according to stress-enhanced crystallization. Our results reveal a new mechanism to affect the crystallization behaviors of SLL phase-change films besides interfacial effect. Stress and interfacial effects actually coexist and compete in SLL films, which can be used to explain the reported anomalous change in crystallization temperature with the film thickness and cycle number of periods in SLL phase-change films.

The results of the analysis show that simultaneously, there is a positive and significant effect of work stress and motivation on the performance of X Camat employees in Palembang City. Individually, there is a positive and significant effect of work stress on the performance of X Camat employees in Palembang City. Individually, there is a positive and significant effect of work motivation on the performance of X Camat employees in Palembang City. Because these variables have a significant effect, then to improve employee performance, the most appropriate step is to pay attention to work stress and work motivation.
