Abstract:
During the car production process, diverse production workshops have distinct prerequisites for car body sequencing. This results in the intricate nature of sequencing within multi-stage car workshops. In this study, an optimization method for car body sequencing is proposed that combines a hybrid evolutionary algorithm with heuristic rules. In the welding workshop, a genetic algorithm is employed to optimize the vehicle sequencing. Simultaneously, a differential evolution algorithm is used to optimize the inbound sequence of the buffer zone between the welding and painting workshops, as well as the inbound sequence of the buffer zone between the painting and assembly workshops. Heuristic rules are applied to optimize the outbound sequence of the buffer zone between the welding and painting workshops, as well as the outbound sequence of the buffer zone between the painting and assembly workshops. In addition, in order to improve the quality of the initial population, a heuristic method-based initial population construction method is proposed. The optimization objectives are the number of vehicle model changes in the welding workshop, the number of color changes in the painting workshop, and the total number of overloads in the assembly workshop. The experimental results show that the proposed method performs better than the five outstanding evolutionary algorithms.

Abstract:
After the business model and the ontology meta-model of production workshops are analyzed and the business processes of the workshop are described formally, the upper ontologies are built on the basis of the business process, and are used to derive the domain ontologies in the workshops. Using SWRL to extend ontologies with rules overcomes the expressive limitation of ontologies. The system architecture of the manufacturing knowledge generation based on rules is put forward. Finally an example is used to explain the process of knowledge generation based on the rules.

Abstract:
In October 1995, Takeshi Furuhashi and his collegues at the Bio-Electronics Laboratory of Nagoya University, Japan, organized the first of a series of on-line workshops, held entirely on the World Wide Web. The advertised advantages of the on-line format were to allow fruitful exchanges while avoiding physical travel, and to guarantee wide visibility of the discussion. The first two workshops in the series were devoted to evolutionary computation; they can be accessed on the web at http://www.bioele.nuee.nagoya-u.ac.jp. The third workshop, named “First On-Line Workshop on Soft Computing” (WSC1), had a broader scope, including all the techniques that go under the heading of “soft computing”, like fuzzy logic, neuro computing, genetic computing, and so on. WSC1 took place from August 19 to 30 1996, and it is accessible on the web at http://www.bioele.nuee.nagoya-u.ac.jp/wsc1/. Because the declared goal of an on-line workshop is to prompt discussion, the rules for submission were looser than in most traditional workshops: papers were not subject to peer review, and it was possible to submit already published papers. All the submitted papers were made visible on the web one week before the workshop, and people could send comments and questions by email during the two workshop weeks; all the questions, comments, and authors' replies are also visible at the WSC1 web site.

Abstract:

As youth's lives have become increasingly infused with all types of media, debates regarding the effect of violent media on youth have emerged. Within this debate, parental monitoring has been identified as an important protective factor against some negative outcomes. Accordingly, the Fourth R Parent Media Violence Workshop was developed to educate parents about the importance of setting rules around media use and to encourage parents to monitor their children's media consumption. Two waves of data were collected six months apart (nTime 1=226, nTime 2=52) with parents who attended the workshop, and results indicate that parents engaged in enhanced, appropriately restrictive and active monitoring practices following the workshop. A significant decrease in children's media consumption was also reported between Time 1 and Time 2. The results provide preliminary evidence to suggest that even short, one-time intensive workshops for parents can move parents' behaviours in the intended direction and positively impact their monitoring strategies.

Alrabiah, Abdulrahman A. "Developing a Computational Framework for Regulatory Policy Change Governance System: Case of Financial Regulation in Saudi Arabia." Thesis, Griffith University, 2022. http://hdl.handle.net/10072/414586.

Full text
Abstract:
This doctoral thesis presents novel technological and systematic solutions to improve business process change practices and solve regulatory policy implementations in central banks that encounter inefficiencies and shortcomings due to multidimensional constraints and complex setups. Central banks deal with complicated relationships (other central banks, commercial banks, consumers, and exogenous bodies) that require a sophisticated tool that can provide constant measurements for each node. The nature of these multi-actor challenges in the global regulatory financial systems suggests an information systems solution. This thesis consists of six publications, one under review (P6), contributes to the research area to: (1) develop a framework to integrate a private cloud computing network with standardised, automated and integrated features that would provide regulators and practitioners with a new method to enhance regulatory reporting system; (2) develop a systematic method to elicit the required organisational business process change factors that would facilitate the development of a hierarchical change management structure framework; (3) propose a computable of hierarchical change management structure framework for BPC decision management problems that are generated explicitly from improper decisions; (4) offer a novel computational impact analysis framework to assist with regulatory policy implementation that encounters informational asymmetries and information quality anomalies; (5) suggest an extended policy life-cycle management framework, including the identifications of vital policy quality attributes; (6) adopting the hybrid of hierarchical change management structure and stochastic gradient descent Models to optimise regulatory policies. The proposed hybrid model includes developing a proof-of-concept system called “computational regulatory policy change governance system” that captures all the changes and represent regulated entities’ information.

Abstract:
Abstract To meet the increasingly diversified demand, multi-variety and small-batch production has been widely acknowledged in manufacturing industry, which raises higher requirements for production scheduling. Priority dispatching rules have been widely used in job shop scheduling with many advantages, including low computational cost, high flexibility and good portability. However, it is usually hard to guarantee a globally optimal solution. Multi-Agent-based priority dispatching rules for scheduling are available to handle real complex and dynamic production environment, in the meanwhile hold a comprehensively satisfactory performance. In this paper, multi-agents are designed representing production jobs, production machines, and especially packaging process. A composite priority dispatching rule considering working conditions of job agent, machine agent and packaging agent is proposed, where the packaging agent plays a significant role in developing the proposed dispatching rule. Then, this priority rule is compared with four widely-applied rules in literature, FCFS, SPT, COVERT, and ATC. Four measures of performance, i.e. maximum completion time, tardiness time, equipment utilization, order waiting time, are employed. The results show that the proposed priority dispatching rule performs better overall, particularly in reducing order waiting time. Finally, an agent-based simulation model of a furniture manufacturing workshop is constructed using AnyLogic, to verify the proposed priority rule in dealing with random order arrivals.

Abstract:
It is undisputed that the development and use of autonomous weapon systems (AWS) must comply with international humanitarian law (IHL). However, how IHL rules should be interpreted and applied in the context of AWS remains, in some respects, unclear or disputed. With a particular focus on human–machine interaction, this report aims to facilitate a deeper understanding of this issue. Informed by an in-person expert workshop that SIPRI convened in November 2022 and contributions to the international policy discussion on AWS, the report maps areas of common ground and identifies aspects that warrant further clarification concerning what key rules of IHL, particularly those guiding the conduct of hostilities, permit, prohibit and require in the development and use of AWS. In doing so, the report provides a baseline for policymakers to advance discussions around what types and uses of AWS are (or should be) prohibited or regulated under existing IHL.

Abstract:
This document provides a short literature review on the complementarity (and antagonisms) between liability rules, safety regulation and insurance and their effect on safety management. It draws on a range of disciplines, with a focus on economic analysis of law and regulation theory. Some of the issues discussed are rather complex; this document attempts to provide simple explanations together with references to the professional literature for the interested reader. Some issues are the subject of ongoing debate between scholars; in such situations, we have attempted to present the various points of view. The document provides background information concerning the topics discussed during the NeTWork’2012 workshop, and draws on some of the contributions of workshop participants and the rich discussion which took place during the three days. The first chapter presents issues related to regulation, starting with the classical economic justifications for state intervention (presence of externalities, information failures and moral hazard). A number of obstacles to the effectiveness of safety regulation are presented. Finally, some alternatives or complements to regulation, including self-regulation, are briefly discussed. Chapter 2 presents an overview of liability law, starting with some introductory definitions. Factors which weaken the effectiveness of liability as an incentive to invest in prevention are discussed, as are negative effects of liability regimes on safety management. A number of case studies illustrating the liability of regulators are briefly presented. Chapter 3 discusses the impact of insurance and reinsurance on firms’ and individuals’ safety management. The last chapter briefly analyzes firms’ and individuals’ sources of motivation to take care.
