Abstract:
James Henderson ‘Jimmy’ Burns was the founding editor of The Collected Works of Jeremy Bentham (1968–) and an outstanding historian of medieval and modern political thought. In this brief tribute I hope to emphasize, first, his contribution to the revival of interest in utilitarianism as a field of study, and, second, his reassessment of Bentham's ideas in the context of the British and French Enlightenment.

Abū I-Walīd Jonah ibn Janāḥ is undoubtedly one of the greatest Hebrew grammarians. Born in Al-Andalus at the end of the tenth century he was active during the eleventh century, but his exact dates are not known. His best known works, a grammar, Kitāb al-Lumaՙ (The book of variegated flowerbeds) and a dictionary of biblical Hebrew, Kitāb al-'Uṣūl (The book of roots), represented the most important development in the knowledge of Hebrew of the Middle Ages. Other important works on grammar include Kitāb al-Taswi'a (The book of annexation), a short grammatical treatise which he composed as a response to critics of a previous work entitled Kitāb al-Mustalḥaq (The book of annexation).

Abstract:
The singular nonsymmetric rank one perturbation of a self-adjoint operator from classes ${\mathcal H}_{-1}$ and ${\mathcal H}_{-2}$ was considered for the first time in works by Dudkin M.E. and Vdovenko T.I. \cite{k8,k9}. In the mentioned papers, some properties of the point spectrum are described, which occur during such perturbations. This paper proposes generalizations of the results presented in \cite{k8,k9} and \cite{k2} in the case of nonsymmetric class ${\mathcal H}_{-2}$ perturbations of finite rank. That is, the formal expression of the following is considered \begin{equation*} \tilde A=A+\sum \limits_{j=1}^{n}\alpha_j\langle\cdot,\omega_j\rangle\delta_j, \end{equation*} where $A$ is an unperturbed self-adjoint operator on a separable Hilbert space ${\mathcal H}$, $\alpha_j\in{\mathbb C}$, $\omega_j$, $\delta_j$, $j=1,2, ..., n<\infty$ are vectors from the negative space ${\mathcal H}_{-2}$ constructed by the operator $A$, $\langle\cdot,\cdot\rangle$ is the dual scalar product between positive and negative spaces.

Abstract:
Background. The article discusses psychology of teenagers and elders in detective novels which is considered to be more complicated. Although the society and the social environment change and renew the way of thinking, the changes in the world of childhood and adolescence, like the laws of nature, are constantly changing. Adolescence is a period that is complicated by the transition of a person to the stage of childhood and maturity. Methods. It is important that every teenager at this age pays more attention to the heroes of books and movies, learns from them. Consequently, the task of fiction for teenagers is also very responsible and multifaceted. Among the works of world literature such as J. Verne's "Children of Captain Grant", "Five Weeks in a Balloon", "Mysterious Island", D. Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe", J. Swift's "Gulliver's Travels", Uzbek children's fiction and detective prose, for example The works of H. Shaykhov, T. Malik, O. Mukhtor, H. Tukhtaboyev, as well as the didactic stories of T. Malik, E. Malik play an important role in enriching the spiritual needs of adolescents in this area. Results.

Abstract:
Recently, Chang and Li generalized the theory of virtual fundamental class to the setting of semi-perfect obstruction theory. A semi-perfect obstruction theory requires only the local existence of a perfect obstruction theory with compatibility conditions. In this paper, we generalize the torus localization of Graber–Pandharipande [T. Graber and R. Pandharipande, Localization of virtual cycles, Invent. Math. 135(2) (1999) 487–518], the cosection localization [Y.-H. Kiem and J. Li, Localizing virtual cycles by cosections, J. Amer. Math. Soc. 26(4) (2013) 1025–1050] and their combination [H.-L. Chang, Y.-H. Kiem and J. Li, Torus localization and wall crossing for cosection localized virtual cycles, Adv. Math. 308 (2017) 964–986], to the setting of semi-perfect obstruction theory. As an application, we show that the Jiang-Thomas theory [Y. Jiang and R. Thomas, Virtual signed Euler characteristics, preprint (2014), arXiv:1408.2541] of virtual signed Euler characteristic works without the technical quasi-smoothness assumption from derived algebraic geometry.

We present a semilocal convergence analysis of Newton's method for sections on Riemannian manifolds. Using the notion of a 2-piece L-average Lipschitz condition introduced in [C. Li and J. H. Complexity24 (2008) 423–451] in combination with the weaker center 2-piece L1-average Lipschitz condition given by us in this paper, we provide a tighter convergence analysis than the one given in [C. Abstract:
The works, views and ideas of Heini Hediger (1908-1992), one of the most distinguished and influential zoologist of the 20th century, had and still have an enormous impact on contemporary understanding of animal behaviour. His views on territorial, social, etc. aspects of animal behaviour are based on semiotic concepts derived from Umwelt-theory (J. v. Uexküll) and combined with ideas from modern ethology. Hediger's special attention was devoted to the area of animal-man communications; he treated these problematic phenomena as a system of semiosis-processes, in a mainly holistic way. Hediger's approach inspires the author to propose a notion "the need for impression" to be used in zoosemiotic analyses.

Abstract:
The article presents the interest of Polish archaeology before 1945 in the prehistory and early history of the Slavs. The pioneers were Count Jan Potocki towards the end of the 18th century a representative of the Enlightenment period, and then Zorian Dołęga Chodakowski. Chodakowski’s work from 1818 about the Slavs before Christianity opened the Romantic period in Polish antiquarianism. At this time the greatest Polish poets were writing important works relating to the pre-Christian past of Poland, and a statue of the pagan god Światowid (Światowit) was found in the river Zbrucz. Studies of the earliest Slavs were continued by the positivists. At the beginning of the 20th century, one of them was E.Majewski from Warsaw, a promotor of the works of L. Niederle devoted to Slavic antiquities. In the period when the cultural-historical school dominated, prehistoric archaeology was becoming ever more closely associated with nationalism and politics (G. Kossinna). Majewski was one of the first critics of Kossinna’s method and works. In the years 1919–1944 Majewski’s pupil, L. Kozłowski, and J. Czekanowski studied the origin of the Slavs. Both were professors of the University in Lviv. Together with J. Kostrzewski, a prehistorian from Poznań, they regarded the Lusatian culture from the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age as ancient Slavic. This view was important as propaganda in the political and scholarly dispute with prehistorians of the Third Reich. Its significance increased after the discovery and start of excavations of a fortified settlement of the Lusatian culture in Biskupin, in northwestern Poland. During the Second World War, Biskupin was excavated by H. Schleif from the SS-Ahnenerbe. The intention was to refute Kostrzewski’s views. At the same time, Kostrzewski and Kozłowski were writing works intended to confirm the ancient Slavic character of the Lusatian culture. Today their views constitute an interesting chapter in the history of science. Key words: early history of the Slavs, Światowid, Biskupin, Romantic period, Lusatian culture.

Abstract:
Supramolecular approaches are of great interest in the design of functional materials. The types of aggregates arising from different noncovalent interactions endow materials with intriguing properties. In this sense, J-type aggregates are very attractive due to their unique optical properties and capacity to transport excitons. These features make them great candidates in the design of materials for organic electronic devices. Furthermore, the incorporation of additional hydrogen-bonding functionalities provides J-aggregates with superior directionality and connection among the different π-conjugated cores. The control over the formation of H-bonds to achieve functional aggregates is therefore a promising strategy towards controlled structures with specific functions. This review outlines the most relevant and recent works of π-conjugated systems exhibiting J-type aggregates resulting from hydrogen-bonding interactions. Different types of hydrogen-bonding functionalities will be discussed together with their roles in the aggregate properties, their impact in the optoelectronic properties, the self-assembly mechanisms, and their applications in organic electronics.

Abstract:
In the 19th century, after a two-centuries oblivion, the interest in a medieval genre &ldquo;danse macabre&rdquo; reappeared. Dances of Death were embodied not only in pictorial art, literature and music, but also attracted the attention of scholars. The research subject of this article is one of such scientific works - &ldquo;Les Danses des Morts&rdquo; by J.-G. Kastner. Its uniqueness consists in the combination of a theoretical research and practical embodiment of its results in a piece of music. The genre of the tractate is defined by scholars as &ldquo;livre partition&rdquo; - a sheet music book. The article contains the biographical data of the life and creative work of the French scholar, music expert and composer, little-known in Russian musicology. Based on their own translation of the original text, the authors study the structure-content components of the tractate and define its specificity. J.-G. Kastner considers the genre &ldquo;danse macabre&rdquo; in the historical, philosophical and aesthetic contexts; traces back the interdependence of literary, decorative, and musical versions of the dances. The tractate of the French musicologist considers in detail the range of instruments of dance macabre (based on the collection of wooden engravings of a gothic Doten Dantz printed in the late 15th century). The authors define the features of J.-G. Kastner&rsquo;s ideas which differ them from the thanatological views of his predecessors H. Peino and E.-H. Langlois.

It is a truism to state today that the idealist-realist debate represents a foundational moment of great importance for the discipline of international relations that had defined and set the problematic that will occupy her latter. In those circumstances, the works of Hans f. Morgenthau occupied a privileged posture because he contributed more than anyone else to grasp what makes the originality and specificity of that « new » domain of study. The metatheoretical examination of that idealist-realist debate and of the strategic position that it occupied in the theoretical thinking of Morgenthau allowed us to enlighten anew one crucial moment in the analytical constitution of international relations. Retrospectively this kind of metatheoretical examination throws critical light on difficulties faced by theoretical activities in that discipline.

Abstract:
The article gives a brief review of the prehistory of the appearance of “Mathematical Manuscripts” by K. Marx published in the USSR in 1968 as a separate volume not included in the second edition of Marx and Engels collected works. The conclusion is drawn that the study of the divisions of higher mathematics (primarily differential and integral calculi) by Marx was connected with his desire to turn to the works of representatives of the “mathematical school” (O. Cournot, J. H. Thünen, W. Jevons, L. Walras and etc.), which was actively developing since the 1860s, and to understand the possibilities of the mathematical language for studying economic processes. The role of “Mathematical Manuscripts” as a kind of “cover” of the movement for applying mathematical methods in economics that arose in the USSR in the 1960s is identified.

Abstract:
The results of sap flow continuous measurements by a tree-trunk heat balance method (THB) on beech model trees are analysed in this paper. Experimental research works were carried out in a mature mixed fir-spruce-beech stand in the research area Poľana – Hukavský grúň (j= 48o39´, l = 19o29´, H = 850 m a.s.l.) in UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on two co-dominant and one sub-dominant beech trees. A mathematical model of daily transpiration dynamics was proposed for <br />a quantitative analysis of the daily course of sap flow intensity. The model works on a one-tree level and enables to consider the influence of the tree social position in the stand on the sap flow intensity of model beech trees and to express the dependence of sap flow intensity on the tree height and crown projection.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is representation of the images of Ob Ugrians in ethnographic illustrated publications of the late XVIII &ndash; early XIX centuries. The author examines the works of H. Rotht, J. B. Le Prince, H. G. Geissler as the visual and historical-ethnographic sources. The article touches upon the general historical, artistic and intellectual contexts of the second half of the XVIII &ndash; early XIX centuries, reflecting the dominant representations of the contemporaries on life and culture of Ob Ugrians. The approach proposed by Y. Slezkin that allows viewing the Ob Ugrians &ldquo;with the eyes of Russians&rdquo; is favored by the author. In analyzing the visual form of works, the author leant on the iconological method. The novelty of this research is defined by the relevance of studying visual representation of Ob Ugrians in the illustrated publications of the late XVIII &ndash; early XIX centuries based on the example of gravures by Roth, Le Prince, and Geissler. This topic is yet insufficiently studied from the perspective of existence of the corresponding historical-ethnographic research, as well as analysis of the artistic for of the works. The task for reconstruction of representations of the artists themselves on life and culture of Ob Ugrians is also relevant. These views were formed within the framework of particular theoretical models, concepts, historical-ethnographic ideas of that time, and were a reflection of the dominant aesthetic canons and artistic conventions, which ultimately outlined the general &ldquo;portrait&rdquo; of Ob Ugrians.

Abstract:
Different heat transfer enhancers are reviewed. They are (a) fins and microfins, (b) porous media, (c) large particles suspensions, (d) nanofluids, (e) phase-change devices, (f) flexible seals, (g) flexible complex seals, (h) vortex generators, (i) protrusions, and (j) ultra high thermal conductivity composite materials. Most of heat transfer augmentation methods presented in the literature that assists fins and microfins in enhancing heat transfer are reviewed. Among these are using joint-fins, fin roots, fin networks, biconvections, permeable fins, porous fins, capsulated liquid metal fins, and helical microfins. It is found that not much agreement exists between works of the different authors regarding single phase heat transfer augmented with microfins. However, too many works having sufficient agreements have been done in the case of two phase heat transfer augmented with microfins. With respect to nanofluids, there are still many conflicts among the published works about both heat transfer enhancement levels and the corresponding mechanisms of augmentations. The reasons beyond these conflicts are reviewed. In addition, this paper describes flow and heat transfer in porous media as a well-modeled passive enhancement method. It is found that there are very few works which dealt with heat transfer enhancements using systems supported with flexible/flexible-complex seals. Eventually, many recent works related to passive augmentations of heat transfer using vortex generators, protrusions, and ultra high thermal conductivity composite material are reviewed. Finally, theoretical enhancement factors along with many heat transfer correlations are presented in this paper for each enhancer.

Abstract:
The paper is devoted to the role of wood in the art of furniture. The work traces the typological relationship of certain types of furniture designed in the twentieth century with the prototypes of the XVIII and XIX centuries. The paper argues about the possibilities of the material for creating aesthetically significant furniture samples. The stage in recognizing the new possibilities of technologically processed wood is the furniture by J. Summers, which revealed the possibility of designing a chair from a single sheet of plywood “in one piece” without structural connections. H. Peak, C. Mollino, Ch. R. Eames, S. Yanagi worked in the same direction. Chipboard is the last of the materials discussed in the paper. The appeal to the archaic box-type design was laid in the works by Rietveld, M. Bill, and G. Gugelot. In the wake of the architecture, deconstruction in the furniture design can be seen in the works by F. and W. Campana.

Abstract:
In rabbit alveolar macrophages, recovery of intracellular pH (pHi) from acid loads to pHi values > or = 6.8 at an extracellular pH (pHo) of 7.4 (nominal absence of CO2-HCO3-) is insensitive to amiloride, an inhibitor of Na(+)-H+ exchange, and abolished by bafilomycin A1, an inhibitor of vacuolar-type H(+)-ATPase [A. Bidani, S.E.S. Brown, T.A. Heming, R. Gurich, and T.D. Dubose, Jr. Am. J. Physiol. 257 (Cell Physiol. 26): C65-C76, 1989; A. Bidani and S. E. S. Brown. Am. J. Physiol. 259 (Cell Physiol. 28): C586-C598, 1990]. To further evaluate the roles of Na(+)-H+ exchange and H(+)-ATPase activity in pHi regulation in rabbit alveolar macrophages, we have investigated the effects of amiloride and bafilomycin over a greater range of pHi (6.3-7.0) and pHo (5.0-7.4). The results indicate that rabbit alveolar macrophages possess H(+)-ATPase and a Na(+)-H+ antiporter, both of which are activated by decrements in pHi. However, in all cases, H(+)-ATPase activity exclusively determined basal pHi and was the principal mechanism (> 50%) for pHi recovery from intracellular acid loads. The pHi set point for activation of Na(+)-H+ exchange was approximately 6.8 at pHo of 7.4 and approximately 6.5 at pHo of 6.8. Na(+)-H+ exchange did not contribute significantly to pHi recovery at acid-loaded pHi above these set points. At pHo of 7.4 and pHi > or = 6.8, pHi recovery displayed an activation energy of approximately 11,000 kcal/mol and temperature coefficient of approximately 2.1, which are consistent with an energy-dependent process (i.e., H+ pump).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract:
Of the published works by William Stanley Jevons, the marginalist theory of value and distribution in the Theory of Political Economy (1871) is principally remembered by economists today. For Jevons in the early 1870s, however, the reception of the Theory (TPE) had “been of the most discouraging character.” The “recognised professor[s] of the science,” for example, had either ignored or, in the case of J. E. Cairnes, “emphatically repudiated it” (Jevons 1875a, p. 4). In November 1874, buoyed by the publication of the first volume of Leon Walras's Elements of Pure Economics and by correspondence with Walras and other European economists, Jevons presented a defense of the marginalist theory and reply to critics in an address titled “The Progress of the Mathematical Theory of Political Economy.” It was delivered to the Manchester Statistical Society, and was extensively reported in the local newspapers. Jevons used those reports to both publicize and obtain comments on the address before the final version was published in 1875. As some of the papers circulated beyond Manchester, London, readers, for example, could also read or hear of his analysis. In that regard, one component of his argument attracted particular attention.

Abstract:
The core of the Višňová castle library was formed already in the 17th century, probably in Paderborn. Afew volumes come from the property of the archbishop of Cologne, Ferdinand August von Spiegel (1774–1835), but most of the items were collected by his brother Franz Wilhelm (1752–1815), a minister of the Electorate of Cologne, chief construction officer and the president of the Academic Council in Cologne. A significant group is formed by philosophical works: Franz Wilhelm’s collection comprised works by J. G. Herder, I. Kant, M. Mendelsohn as well as H. de Saint-Simon and J. von Sonnenfels. Another group consisted of historical works, e.g. by E. Gibbon; likewise his interest in the history of Christianity is noticeable. The library contains a total of more than 6,200 volumes, including 40 manuscripts, 3 incunabula and 15 printed books from 16th century; more than a half of the collection is formed by early printed books until the end of the 18th century. The other volumes come from the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Volumes from the 17th century include especially Latin printed books on law, and one can perceive interest in collecting books on philosophy. There are many publications devoted to Westphalia; in addition, the library contains a number of binder’s volumes of legal dissertations from the end of the 17th century and the entire 18th century published in diverse German university towns. Further disciplines widely represented in the library are economics and especially agriculture, with the publications coming from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Abstract:
Pharmaceutical wastewater is one of the most difficult wastewater to treat due to the presence of pharmaceutical compounds resulting in high concentration of organic matter, high turbidity and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Chemical-based coagulation is a common method used to treat wastewater. However, the issue that has been raised with the use of chemical coagulants is their presence in water after treatment that can cause risks to the human health such as Alzheimer and cancer. Natural coagulants can be used as a safe alternative to these chemicals instead. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to study the effect of H. Sabdariffa and J. Curcas as natural coagulants, separately and as a combination, on the treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater. Jar test experiment were carried out where beakers of 0.5L wastewater were mixed with the coagulants. The pH of the wastewater was varied from 2 to 12 while the coagulant dosage was varied from 40 to 200 mg/L. It was found that H. Sabdariffa works best at pH 4 and at a coagulant dosage of 190 mg/L with a highest turbidity removal of 35.8% and a decrease of COD by 29%. J. Curcas was found to perform best at pH 3 and with a coagulant dosage of 200 mg/L with a highest turbidity removal of 51% and a decrease of COD by 32%. When J. Curcas and H. Sabdariffa were used in combination, the optimum composition was found to be 80% J. Curcas and 20% H. Sabdariffa by weight with a maximum turbidity removal of 46.8% and a decrease in COD by 46%. In comparison between the two natural coagulants, J. Curcas is found to be a better and more suited coagulative agent for the treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater. The same experiment was carried with alum at pH 6 and coagulant dosage of 750 mg/L and a turbidity removal of 48% and a decrease in COD by 38% were recorded. In comparison with alum, J. Curcas was a better coagulant in treating the pharmaceutical wastewater. This shows that natural coagulants can be used to replace chemical coagulants in the treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater.

We demonstrate a passive Q-switched at 2 um region by integrating Bismuth (III) Telluride (Bi2/Te3) embedded in Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA). Bi2Te3 was embedded in PVA by solution casting approach to develop a Bi2/Te3-PVA film and integrated in the laser cavity with ring configuration to generate pulse laser. The experimental works show that the proposed passive saturable absorber operates at input pump power ranges from 637 mW to 784 mW with central wavelength of 1957.6 nm. We observed the tunable repetition rate from 12.6 kHz to 26.1 kHz with the shortest pulse width of 2.22 us. The laser produces maximum instantaneous output peak power and pulse energy of 0.42 W and 0.94 uJ, respectively. Full Text: PDF ReferencesC. Zhao, H. Zhang, X. Qi, Y. Chen, Z. Wang, S. Wen, and D. AbstractSeveral recently developed AUSM-family numerical flux functions (SLAU, SLAU2, AUSMM+-up2, and AUSMPW+) have been successfully extended to compute compressible multiphase flows, based on the stratified flow model concept, by following two previous works: one by M.-S. Liou, C.-H. Chang, L. Nguyen, and T.G. Theofanous [AIAA J. 46:2345-2356, 2008], in which AUSM+-up was used entirely, and the other by C.-H. Chang, and M.-S. Liou [J. Comput. Phys. 225:840-873, 2007], in which the exact Riemann solver was combined into AUSM+-up at the phase interface. Through an extensive survey by comparing flux functions, the following are found: (1) AUSM+-up with dissipation parameters of Kp and Ku equal to 0.5 or greater, AUSMPW+, SLAU2, AUSM+-up2, and SLAU can be used to solve benchmark problems, including a shock/water-droplet interaction; (2) SLAU shows oscillatory behaviors [though not as catastrophic as those of AUSM+ (a special case of AUSM+-up with Kp = Ku = 0)] due to insufficient dissipation arising from its ideal-gas-based dissipation term; and (3) when combined with the exact Riemann solver, AUSM+-up (Kp = Ku = 1), SLAU2, and AUSMPW+ are applicable to more challenging problems with high pressure ratios.

Abstract:
In continuing studies of the aggregation behaviour of squaraine dyes in DMSO-water mixtures, we have examined a series of symmetrical anilino-based squaraines with increasing N-alkyl chain length (n-butyl, n-octyl, and n-dodecyl). The aggregation behaviour was assessed through UV/vis spectroscopic and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) studies with quantitative interpretation based on exciton theory. This class of N-alkyl squaraines forms two distinct solution aggregates, Type J and Type H, depending on the composition of the DMSO-water medium. DLS measurement of the aggregates in the Type J and Type H morphologies showed that (i) the particle diameter increased with increasing hydrophobicity; (ii) DMSO has a large effect on the aggregate size; (iii) Type J aggregates are of equal dimensions with Type H aggregates. Moreover, even though as the DMSO-water solvent composition is varied the UV/vis spectra of Type H and Type J aggregates remained unchanged, the number of molecules comprising each aggregate varies widely. It is proposed that the dynamic conversion (J →> H) results from intramolecular reorganization of individual molecules within the aggregate. Quantification of aggregation through DLS has further developed the "kinetic" versus "thermodynamic" control model of dye aggregation.Key words: squaraine, dynamic light scattering, DMSO-water mixtures, self-assembly, kinetic/thermodynamic control.

The article examines the biography and scientific legacy of Eugenia Moiseevna Hanfmann (1905—1983), a Russian—American emigrant psychologist, specialist in the field of psychology of cognitive processes, psychopathology of thinking and psychological counseling. The article outlines her scientific activity in Germany and the USA and collaborations with K. Koffka, T. Dembo, D. Shakov, K. Goldstein, M. Rickers- Ovsiankina, J. Kasanin, H. Murray. It is argued that in her works Hanfmann further developed the ideas of L.S. Vygotsky: modified the method for concept formation (together with J. Kasanin), applied it to the study of conceptual thinking in patients with schizophrenia as well as to the study of personal patterns of intellectual performance, translated the work "Thinking and Speech" for the first time into English (1962), wrote a sketch on Vygotsky’s scientific activity, found the generality of both Vygotsky’s and K. Goldstein’s results of studies of conceptual thinking violations in patients with schizophrenia. Hanfmann was one of the few Vygotsky's followers in the Russian psychological community abroad.

Abstract:
Background. In Ukraine both musicologists and performers (in particular the choirs conducted by well-known choirmasters) do much for the further development of the home Bach studies. For instance, the direction of the ‘choral bahhiana’ was actively developed by the leading choirmasters of that time professor M. Berdennikov (Kiev), Y. Kulik (Kharkiv) in the 60’s and 70’s. It is known that future students of the choral conducting departments first learn the choral heritage of J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel, as a rule, at the piano lessons at children musical schools and secondary schools. Unfortunately, their choral works aren’t often sounded today in the concert halls of musical academies and universities of arts. This music seemed to move from the concert stage to the classrooms. Analysis of publications according the topic. Among the researches that highlight the problems of the style of the sacred works of J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel, it is necessary to point out the fundamental studies of I. Givental and L. Gingold, M. Druskin, T. Livanova, V. Protopopov, A. Schweitzer, articles of modern authors by K. Berdennikova, N. Inutochkina, Y. Lyashenko, V. Semenuk, G. Skobtsova. However, the questions of the specifics of choral vocal technique remain, as a rule, outside the attention of scholars and they constitute the topic’s relevance of the article. Methods. The usage of the historical method contributed to the research of the educational choral performance at the present stage. It is involved structural-functional and intonational methods for establishing dramatic works’ features and concretization of their spiritual content. The comparative method is used to determine the differences between vocal style of J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel’s works and the technique of working with them. Objectives. The main goal is systematization of theoretical and practical observations with the performance of J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel’s choral works by the choir of the Kharkiv National Kotlyarevsky University of Arts students. The article is devoted to highlighting the problems of the performing process and the specifics of the choir practice of students with compositions by J. S. Bach (Cantata No. 140, ‘Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme’ and Magnificat) G. F. Handel (Dettingen Te Deum in D major, HWV 283). Results. The holding of the 22nd International Music Festival “Kharkiv Assemblies” devoted to the J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel’s oeuvre in 2015 was a significant event not only for Kharkiv but also the whole Ukraine’s musical life. The choir of the Kharkiv National Kotlyarevsky University of Arts students traditionally participated in it as in previous years (art director – Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, professor S. Prokopov, choirmasters – laureate of the all-Ukrainian competition H. Savelyeva, award winner of the all-Ukrainian competition O. Fartushka). The choir performed Magnificat and Cantata No. 140 by J. S. Bach ‘Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme’, fragments from the Dettingen Te Deum in D major, HWV 283 by G. F. Handel (the last two works are Kharkiv premieres). The work with them took place in short order and so it caused of some vocal technique difficulties and the problems of performative concept and performative style. Complaxities were intensified by the lack of necessary acoustic accumulation and the practical experience of performing the music of the Baroque by many young choirmasters, members of the choir group. The importance of studying the musical heritage of composers of genius in order to make a conductor-choirmaster personality is emphasized in the article. The main difficulties of learning choral scores due to the lack of performing experience, certain acoustic accumulation of choral music of the late baroque period which students of choral conducting specialization have. The approximation to the true understanding of the performing style of choral music by J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel may be provided with conditions of a thorough in-depth studying their works. The main tasks of the performative choices are described: appreciation of the entire depth of the spiritual content of J. S. Bach’s and G. F. Handel’s music by young performers, the correlation between vocal and instrumental principles, rational and emotional ones. One of the main tasks of the choir practice of students with J. S. Bach’s cantata No. 140 «Watchet auf, ruft uns die Stimme» was an adequate presentation of composer’s style. The composer treats the human voice as equal to the orchestra. Therefore, the vocal-instrumental nature of Bach’s choral style needs another way of sound-building, a greater unity of voices than our home choral music needs. They consider specific methods and techniques of work on such executive factors as tempo-rhythm, strokes. The questions of choral vocal technique, in particular, vocal intonation (significance of timbre expression, usage of different types of respiration, clear diction, active articulation) are raised. J. S. Bach’s interpretation of voice as an instrument, demands from performers a great deal of its mobility, almost virtuosity, especially in contrapuntal sections. As for the vocal style of G. F. Handel, the influence of the operatic style, which is felt in his oratorios and cantatas is emphasized. Conclusions. The choir practice of students and performing by the student choir of German composers’ genius works, the communication of young performers with outstanding conductors, singers (including foreign ones) became for them the true school of craftsmanship, promoted the professional growth of the choir group, revealed its new performance capabilities. Choral music of J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel should move from the educational audiences of universities and academies to the specific halls. The works of genius need to include in student choral groups’ repertoire.

Abstract:
Let two nonperiodic binary morphisms g,h: {a,b}* → Δ* be given. A word w is called a solution of g and h if g(w)=h(w). We say that a solution w is simple if whenever w1, w1u, w2and w2u' are prefixes of wωsuch that [Formula: see text] for some word z, then |u|=|u'|=k|w|, for some k ∈ ℕ. In this paper we will study simple solutions and show that if a word w is a simple solution containing at least nine occurrences of the letter a and at least nine occurrences of the letter b, then either w=(ab)ia, or w=ajbkwith gcd (j, k) = 1, up to the exchange of letters a and b.

Abstract:
We present near infrared observations in J, H and K' pass-bands of the interacting pair of galaxies KPG 404 (NGC 5394/95). We calculate total magnitudes, surface brightnesses and colour profiles. We present the growth curve to compare our photometry against earlier works in which circular aperture estimations were published. We also perform a structural (disk + bulge) analysis to get insight on the morphology of the pair. The disk+bulge fit shows that NGC 5394 (KPG 404A) is more compact than normal galaxies, while NGC 5395 (KPG 404B) is less concentrated. This suggests an interacting scenario in which NGC 5394 passes through the disk of NGC 5395 (a Cartwheel-type collision), rather than a passage as M51-type pairs.
