Abstract:
The article presents the results of the study of characteristics and dynamics of the women’s quality of life in the third trimester of pregnancy and six weeks after delivery. The study involved 240 women, patients of the Perinatal Center of Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, during the third trimester of pregnancy and six weeks after the delivery. Research subjects were divided into three study groups, depending on the presence and severity of negative emotional manifestations in women in the third trimester of pregnancy. It was revealed that the indicators of physical, mental and social functioning in women, who underwent negative emotional manifestations of different severity in the third trimester of pregnancy, are below the average population data. It is shown that the intensity of negative emotional manifestations in women in the third trimester of pregnancy does not affect the subjective assessment of the overall health and life status. The appearance of negative emotional manifestations of different severity in women in the third trimester of pregnancy significantly reduces the subjective assessment of pregnant women’s own physical functioning in the context of daily and professional activities. It was revealed that for women underwent mild negative emotional manifestations in the third trimester of pregnancy, the situation of labor is the most stressful and has a significant impact on the quality of life in the late postpartum period. This category of women is at risk and needs more thorough medical support and professional psychological assistance.

Abstract:
Purpose: To characterize the symptoms of urinary incontinence of women suffering from pelvic organ disorders (POP) and the effect of these problems on quality of life (QoL). Materials and methods: 215 women from rural regions diagnosed with POP were examined. The research implemented the Life Satisfaction Questionnaire (LISAT-11), used to assess quality of life; the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQoL-F) questionnaire, which was employed to assess sexual activity; and the Gaudenz-Incontinence questionnaire, served to assess the occurrence of symptoms of urinary incontinence as well as to define the type of urinary incontinence and its degree of escalation. Results: The average age of the participants was 54.8 years. Most of the participants had urinary incontinence (159; 73.95%). Women with POP and symptoms of urinary incontinence achieved a lower indicator of the sexual function QoL (median - 61.00) when compared to those not suffering from urinary incontinence (median- 78.00). Differences between the groups were statistically significant (p=0.002). The general indicator of QoL for women with symptoms and those without symptoms of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) did not reveal any significant differences between the groups (p=0.643). Conclusions: Urinary incontinence in women with disorders of pelvic floor muscle functions has an insignificant effect on general QoL, whereas it has a decidedly negative impact on sexual function QoL.

Abstract:
The paper explores the impact of gender inequality on the quality of working life and analyzes the processes and factors that shape gender issues in Ukraine. The aim of the study is to assess gender inequality in the process of labor potential and human capital implementation, develop measures that would solve gender inequality problems in employment, and justify the positive impact of the proposed measures on the quality of working life. To achieve the abovementioned goal, statistical data and public opinion polls, which formed the basis of the proposed methods for solving the identified problems, have been analyzed. Determinants of gender inequality have been identified, the main of which are the gender wage gap, gender structure of employment imbalance, inequality of women’s access to decent work due to gender stereotypes, and imperfect control mechanisms for gender-sensitive statistics. Possible approaches of the state`s gender policy to achieve gender balance have been identified and expanded through a set of measures that would include improving the mechanism for controlling gender-sensitive statistical data in the form of monitoring at the organizational and state levels, budget planning with due consideration of gender dimension. The author’s vision of the content and essence of gender policy at the institutional level in the context of transformation of values and gender culture of society has been shared.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the work-life balance (WLB) experiences of tribal working women belonging to the matrilineal Khasi and Jaintia communities of Meghalaya, India, using an identity-based approach. Design/methodology/approach Semi-structured interviews conducted with 18 tribal women working in the formal sector helped generate descriptions of the subjective subliminal tensions they experienced in their efforts to balance work and home life. Findings Six key themes emerged: webs of role-based responsibilities; reframing family around work; revising self-identity through work; challenges and coping tactics; traditional community influences on management of work and home life; and enacting womanhood as problem-solving. Research limitations/implications This study contributes to the literature on women and WLB in that it expands the theoretical understanding of the impact of identity work on women’s WLB. Practical implications A healthy WLB is crucial for enhanced intrinsic motivation and consequently women’s psychological empowerment and career satisfaction. This has important social and practical implications for enriching tribal women’s quality of life in India and facilitating their contribution towards the betterment of their communities and the economy at large. To this end, policymakers should launch awareness campaigns pertaining to tribal women’s WLB, to aid organizations in rolling-out contextually relevant work-life management programmes for these women. Originality/value This study extends an identity-based approach as a general theory of the self to examine matrilineal tribal women's WLB construction as a distinct form of “doing” and “being”.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an uncertain etiology heterogeneous disorder, which affects 6.0% to 10.0% of women in their reproductive age. Aim: assess phenotypic characteristics of women with PCOS, discovery the association between women’s quality-of-life (QOL) and its occurrence and improve women’s knowledge & increase awareness regarding PCOS.Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design had been utilized on a purposive sample of 300 women in reproductive age with PCOS in the gynecological outpatient clinic at Beni-Suef General Hospital, Egypt. A structured interviewing schedule, patient’s assessment record, visual-analogue-scale, Ferriman-Gallwey-Evaluation-of-Hirsutism, QOL Questionnaire, Short-Form-Health-Survey (SF-36), and designed intervention nursing-guideline had been used for data collection.Results: A high percentage (56.7%) of women had a complete phenotype characteristics of PCOS. The most prevalent phenotypic characteristics were alopecia (65.0%), irregular menses (58.7%), and obesity/overweight (48.1%). Statistically significant was found between women’s general characteristic of PCOS and their age, body-mass-index, hirsutism, and average cycle length, p < .05. Women’s QOL had affected negatively by PCO Syndrome, p < .05.Conclusions: PCOS is a common risk factor for acne, alopecia, hirsutism. Many factors to be associated with its phenotype as: body-mass-index, hirsutism, and average cycles length. It has a negative impact on phenotype characteristic, psychological/social domain and total QOL scale. The nursing guideline had a crucial role in the improvement of women’s knowledge in allover items of women’s knowledge.Recommendation: Upgrading women’s knowledge concerning PCOS with a periodic screening of women for early detection and management. Health-Promotion-Programs through different media to improve QOL for women with PCOS.

Contexts: Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common endocrine disorder among women at the childbearing period that diminished women’s quality of life. Aim: The current study evaluated the effect of educational intervention guidelines on quality of life among women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Methods: The current study conducted at the outpatient gynecological clinic at Benha University Hospital. A Quasi-experimental design used to collect data from a purposive sample of 98 women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. Three tools used for data collection. A structured interviewing questionnaire, a healthy practice assessment scale, and health-related quality of life questionnaire for polycystic ovary syndrome. Results: The study findings revealed that women's knowledge mean score was increased from (8.84±5.72) pre-intervention to (33.56±3.91) at post-intervention. Besides, the healthy practice was satisfactory improved, as practice mean score was increased from (11.41±4.56) to (28.85±2.47) at the post-intervention phase, with a statistically significant difference between the two phases, that subsequently affect the improvement of studied women’s quality of life. Conclusion: An educational intervention guideline is effectively improving the quality of life of women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Educational intervention guideline is essentially recommended for women with polycystic ovary in order to improve different quality of life domains. Counseling and health education program must be provided to all women attended gynecological clinics to increases women knowledge regarding PCOS and its management, to enable early detection, and to improve their quality of life. A replication of the study on a larger probability sample in order to obtain generalizability is highly recommended.

Empowering women to participate in economic life is one way to improve the quality of life for women and families. However, many Malaysian women exit from the formal labour market resulting in women’s participation stagnating at around 40 percent since the 1990s. Using a mixed method approach, this study examines whether workplace flexibility may impact women’s empowerment and quality of life. A sample of 400 female employees from the services sector answered a self-administered questionnaire complemented by 30 interviews. Sedentary life causes very big physical and mental health problems, which also decrease one’s life quality. That is why the aim of the research is to evaluate women’s involved in fitness interconnection of subjective evaluation of life quality components and their connection to objective parameters of life quality. GHQ-12 was applied to evaluate general health and IPAQ short version was used to state the amount of physical activities. There are several weak and a very weak correlation between general health, amount of physical activities and the objective factors of life quality. To fully evaluate and improve the parameters of life quality subjective and objective character should be taken into account.

93 Background: Pelvic exenteration (PE) has been performed historically in women with gynecologic cancer for palliation of recurrent disease. With advances in operative methods, PE in the well-selected patient can produce 5-year survival rates as high as 60%. Despite a recent increase in rate of PE performed with curative intent, there is a paucity of data on its long-term physical and emotional effects. We sought to characterize women’s long-term quality of life (QOL) and its correlates after PE for recurrent gynecologic cancer. Methods: We conducted a mixed methods study combining quantitative measurement of QOL and its demographic, clinical and psychological correlates with concurrent qualitative assessment to probe women’s cognitive and behavioral responses to PE. Results: From 2005 to 2014, 85 women underwent PE at our institution; 44% were still alive at study initiation. Among eligible women, 72% completed their participation. Mean age of the sample at time of study participation was 57.3 (SD = 9.5) years (range = 43 to 75) and median time since surgery was 3.0 years (range = .9 to 8). Women’s self-reported global QOL score was average (54.4 (23); range = 33.3 to 100) and the relationship between QOL and current age or time since surgery was not significant (p > .05). Women reported mild sleep disturbance, mild to moderate pain, moderate fatigue and anxiety and severe depressive symptoms. All of the women exceeded the cut-off for clinically significant depressive symptoms. Qualitatively, women described profound negative changes in their physical and emotional well-being after PE. In nearly all of the women, the extended survival after PE helped to buffer the effects of these changes. Conclusions: Results suggest women’s health-related QOL may return to, or near, pre-surgical levels in long-term survivorship but that symptom control is suboptimal. Findings should facilitate more informed decision making prior to PE and suggest targets for clinical intervention to enhance QOL and improve symptom control after PE. This study highlights the need for more comprehensive assessments pre- and post-PE to examine the effects of disease- and PE-related variables, cultural norms and social support on patient-reported outcomes.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to analyse the effect of quality of life, together with other factors, on female candidates̕ willingness to run for office and women’s descriptive representation in the 2018 Czech local elections. We found that the effect of some variables was different in the case of women’s emergence and success. While the share of female candidates was higher in larger cities with lower quality of life and less nationalized local party systems, women were much more successful in smaller cities with lower quality of life, less nationalized local party systems and a more strongly gendered context in the sense of previous female representation, both in city councils and on corporate boards of firms owned by the city. While the positive effect of size on women’s emergence can be explained with the larger city’s context which generates more access points for emergence of women candidates, the negative effect of size on women’s success was due to the desirability of office effect. Furthermore, the very small effect of previous female representation on the share of female candidates can be explained by the existence of an incumbency effect, which may also underlie the different influence of the representation of women in municipally-owned firms’ management. Finally, the negative effect of quality of life (at the level of both candidacy and representation) can also be linked with the desirability hypothesis. The drive to win representation and make decisions about the life of the community can be expected to be much stronger in municipalities with higher quality of life.

Abstract:
Cessation of menstruation, widely known as menopause is a significant transition period in women’s life. It leads to the arrest of fertility and creates a depletion of the hormones causing physical, mental, sexual, and social problems which lead to a serious decline in their quality of life. The onset of menopause induces certain sudden changes, while others appear in a phasic manner, henceforth demanding an adequate understanding of its progression, adverse impact on life, and exploration of any remedial measures thereof. Menopause, despite being a natural occurrence, brings in significant changes to women’s life, almost sometimes leading to severe debilitation. However, it is still not attended and remains an ignored health issue that warrants the immediate attention of researchers, practitioners, and health policymakers. The present review is an attempt to draw attention towards these women-centric health issues and diligently explores the causes, symptoms and also describes the various procedures for the management of menopausal and postmenopausal syndromes. The review tries to summarise the currently available pharmaceutical interventions and also dwells into herbal and complementary remedies which could ameliorate and provide respite from the etiolating menopausal symptoms.

Abstract:
Objective. To assess the quality of life of refugee women. Material and methods. 149 refugee women, who are close relatives in three generations, were examined and divided into 3 groups depending on their age: Group I 51 women aged 1835 years, group II 61 women aged 3654 and group III 34 women aged 55 and over. The quality of life was assessed in two main ways: by self-assessment (subjective method) and by doctors (objective approach). The studies regarding the quality of life were carried out in accordance with the general principles of sociological research. The assessment was realized in points for each criterion. The maximum scale corresponds to 100 points. Along with this program, the international standardized questionnaire SF-36 was used in addition. Results. The data we obtained in the course of the study, first of all indicate the importance of the life priorities of the subjects examined and must be taken into account when planning measures to improve the quality of health. Conclusions. Comparative analysis of health-related quality of life indicators showed that among women parameters of physical functioning significantly decrease with age, regardless of the hierarchy of life priorities. Psychological components increase in middle-aged women with the life priority work.

Abstract:
Background: Prevalence and severity of symptoms related to muscle and joint pain seem to be high in most dancers. Hypothesis: There will be a worse quality of life related to foot health for ballet dancers compared with nondancers. Study Design: Case-control study. Level of Evidence: Level 4. Methods: A sample of 156 women was recruited from a clinic of podiatric medicine and surgery. Self-reported data were measured by the Foot Health Status Questionnaire (FHSQ), which has 33 questions that assess 8 health domains of the feet and general health, namely, foot pain, foot function, general foot health, footwear, general health, physical activity, social capacity, and vigor. Results: Statistically significant differences ( P < 0.05) were shown for foot pain, foot function, foot health, and general health, which together revealed a worse foot health–related quality of life (lower FHSQ scores) but a better general health (higher FHSQ scores) for ballet dancers compared with nondancers. The remaining domains did not show statistically significant differences ( P > 0.05). According to multivariate linear regression models ( P < 0.05), the practice of ballet dance (group) was the only independent variable that predicted the dependent variables, such as foot pain ( R2 = 0.052;β = +8.349), foot function ( R2 = 0.108; β = +11.699), foot health ( R2 = 0.039; β = +10.769), and general health ( R2 = 0.019; β = −6.795). Conclusion: Ballet dancers showed a negative impact on quality of life related to foot health but better overall quality of life (general health) compared with nondancers. Clinical Relevance: Paying attention to a dancer’s foot health could provide important benefits for the dancer’s foot health and physical practice of dance.

The presence of women in all areas of contemporary life is a reality that generates many changes in their lifestyle. In the present study, we aimed to make a comparative analysis in two groups of women. The adults in the first group practice sports activities 2-4 times a week, but have sedentary professions, those in the second group have active professions, with medium to high effort, but do not participate in any sports class, with 3 exceptions. The results obtained show us better values recorded at body indices, and at indices related to health status, sleep quality in women in the second group. Our recommendation for adult women is to adopt a lifestyle with sports activities performed daily, with a medium to high effort to improve their quality of life

Abstract Introduction. Currently, vegetable oils are used not only for consumption but also for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. They are especially eagerly used by women, although their knowledge in this field is usually insufficient. Aim. The aim of the study was to determine the dietary habits of women and to analyse the importance and position of vegetable fats in their diet and life. Another objective was to assess the level of knowledge and awareness of the health-enhancing properties of these products. Material and methods. The study involved women (n=253) aged 18-30, 31-40, and over 40 years living in Lubelskie Province, Poland. The modified questionnaire was composed of questions about their diet, regularity of meals, habits and preferences of fat intake, and motivation behind including fats in the diet or for cosmetic or medicinal applications. Results. Approximately 45% of the respondents sometimes used fats with their meals and 23% used them regularly. Fats were consumed by approximately 86% of the total number of respondents and were used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes by ca. 15.5 % and 6% of the respondents, respectively. Linseed oil (34%) and coconut oil (27%) were regarded as the most valuable fats. Butter and rapeseed oil were consumed most frequently (p<0.05). Approximately 47% of the respondents regarded refined oils as valuable products, and 40% of the respondents were aware of the harmful effects of trans fats. Conclusion. The survey indicates a necessity of implementation of educational campaigns among consumers in order to disseminate the knowledge about the role of fat in the diet and the risks associated with excessive consumption and poor quality of these products.

Objective. The purpose of this study is to identify menstruation characteristics of the women and the effects of menorrhagia on women’s quality of life. Methods. The study was designed as a descriptive, case-control one. Results. Of the women in the case group, 10.9% stated that their menstrual bleeding was severe and very severe before complaints while 73.2% described bleeding as severe or very severe after complaints. Among those who complained about menorrhagia, 46.7% pointed that they used hygienic products that are more protective than regular sanitary pads. Women also stated that their clothes, bed linens, and furniture got dirty parallel to the severity of the bleeding. In all subscales of SF-36 scale, quality of life of the women in the menorrhagia group was significantly lower than the ones in the control group (). Conclusion. Menorrhagia has negative effects on women’s quality of life. Therefore, quality of life of the women consulting the clinics with menorrhagia complaint should be investigated and effective approaches should be designed.

Background:To examine the dose-response relationship between health related quality of life (HRQoL) and life satisfaction (outcomes) and duration of recreational physical activity (exposure). Further, to explore whether these relationships depend on type of physical activity (PA).Methods:793 Australian rural-living women self-reported on duration of recreational PA; HRQoL via SF-36 Mental Component Summary (MCS) and Physical Component Summary (PCS); and a life satisfaction scale. ANOVAs and ANCOVAs investigated differences in outcomes (MCS, PCS, and life satisfaction) between tertiles of exposure to recreational PA, and types of PA (club sport, gymnasium, walking), with adjustment for potential confounders.Results:A significant positive dose-response relationship was found between PCS and level of PA. Furthermore, this relationship depended on type of PA, with club-sport participants recording higher PCS than non-club-sport participants in all but the highest tertile of exposure. Life satisfaction and MCS were not significantly related to level of PA.Conclusion:Physical health was positively associated with level of recreational PA, with club sport participation contributing greater benefits at low to moderate exposures than participation in gymnasium or walking activities.

The World Health Organization (WHO) considers quality of life a fundamental indicator. The effect of birth on women’s long-term quality of life (QoL) has barely been studied. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related with the pregnancy, delivery and puerperium, and assess women’s QoL after giving birth. A cross-sectional study with Spanish puerperal women was carried out; it collected data on socio-demographic variables, obstetric variables, newborn data, and several quality of life parameters. An ad hoc online questionnaire, including SF-36 (validated instrument to measure QoL), was used. Crude mean differences (MD) and adjusted mean differences (aMD) were estimated by multiple linear regression. A total of 2990 women participated whose overall QoL lowered with time until three years postpartum (p = 0.045). Caesarean section (aMD = −3.61, 95% confidence interval (CI): −5.07, −2.15), mother admitted to ICU (aMD = −4.81, 95% CI: −9.56, −2.68), newborn hospitalized (aMD = −2.10, 95% CI: −4.31, −0.13) or third/fourth degree perineal tears (aMD = −6.87 95%CI: −9.93, −3.82) were detected as risk factors that affect negatively and significantly on postpartum QoL scores. Women’s postpartum QoL worsens with time. Some determining factors negatively influence postpartum QoL: Caesarean section, a mother´s admission to an intensive care unit (ICU) or a premature newborn.

Much research exists on quality of life issues with breast cancer survivors. However, there has been little done on the waiting experience itself, and on the experience of follow-up from the women’s perspective. Women who have been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer live with the condition for a minimum of 5 years, waiting for the next medical intervention; waiting for the next battery of tests; waiting for the next physician check-up. Throughout most of these years they may feel healthy, but they experience visits to cancer clinics, medical testing, and physician interactions. Women’s accounts of their experiences of waiting and life during follow-up for breast cancer has not been the focus of research on the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. In particular research that uses a qualitative approach, in which women recount their experiences in their own language, has been missing. This study used a phenomenological approach, telling the stories of waiting and life throughout follow-up of nine women. The women’s experiences are captured in four themes: life-changing; a sense of belonging; uncertainty; needing to know.

Postpartum mothers are vulnerable to several problems during the puerperium, such as fatigue, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, sexual problems, physical functioning and dissatisfaction with partner support that can affect their quality of life. The aim of this systematic review is to explore the effect of exercise on postpartum women’s quality of life. Comprehensive searches including experimental studies (including RCTs and non-randomized trials) from several databases, namely Scopus, PubMed, and Science-Direct, were used to search for scientific contributions published between 2009 and 2019. The articles are identified using the relevant keywords. This systematic review is guided by PRISMA. Fourteen of the 636 articles met both the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The postpartum exercises found in this study were Yoga, Pelvic Floor Muscle Training (PFMT), Pilates, Postnatal Exercise, Aerobic Exercise and Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). This review cannot provide definitive conclusions about the best form of exercise, the suggested duration or the timing needed to improve the quality of life for postpartum women. However, Yoga and Pilates are proven to effectively improve maternal well-being because this exercise focuses on increasing the physical, psychological and social support during the postpartum period. Further research is needed to provide evidence and to strengthen the results of this systematic review.

Research has emphasized the important role of recalling childhood experiences on adult mental health, and also the benefits of self-compassion on well-being. This study explored self-compassion as a mediator between early memories with family and peers and quality of life, on a wide age range female sample ( N = 645). Path analysis revealed that self-compassion mediated the impact of both types of memories on women’s perceived quality of life. Overall, results revealed that the recall of early positive memories, either with family and peers, associate with a more compassionate self-to-self relationship, and the perception of greater psychological and social well-being.
