Abstract:

A presente dissertação é um diálogo com os estudos e as pesquisas que se ocupam com a construção da representação simbólica da família Wolff/Wolf em três obras distintas, de autores da literatura brasileira: Um Rio Imita o Reno (1938) de Vianna Moog, A Asa Esquerda do Anjo (1981) de Lya Luft e Valsa para Bruno Stein (1986) de Charles Kiefer. Desta maneira, nosso objetivo geral é analisar como se dá o relacionamento intertextual entre as famílias presentes nos textos, as quais possuem o mesmo sobrenome de origem alemã Wolff/Wolf. Sendo assim, analisaremos não apenas o sobrenome dessas famílias, mas também as questões inerentes aos textos literários, como símbolos e estrutura familiar, pois com as personagens dessas obras podemos analisar e indagar o contato dessas famílias de origem alemã com a cultura brasileira, resultando, desse modo, em uma hibridização de sua cultura, com a perda de elementos culturais alemães, assimilando, portanto, novos aspectos oriundos da cultura brasileira.
Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist, drei verschiedene Werke von drei unterschiedlichen Autoren der brasilianischen Literatur zu analysieren: Um Rio Imita o Reno (1938) von Vianna Moog, A Asa Esquerda do Anjo (1981) von Lya Luft und Valsa para Bruno Stein (1986) von Charles Kiefer. Die intertextuelle Beziehung existiert wegen der Familien, die einen gleichen deutschen Familiennamen haben, „Wolf“. Es werden nicht nur die Familiennamen analysiert, als auch inhärente Themen der literarischen Texte, wie: Symbole, Familienstruktur, und ihren Kontakt mit der brasilianischen Kultur, wodurch sich eine Hybridisierung ihrer Kultur kristalisiert, die wegen des Verlustes ihrer deutschen kulturellen Elemente stattfindet. Dadurch entstehen neue Aspkete in dieser hybriden Kultur.

Abstract:

Le mode de vie des tétrapodes éteints est souvent difficile à évaluer sans adaptations morphologiques évidentes, comme des palettes natatoires. Selon l’hypothèse de l’adaptation fonctionnelle de l’os, l’architecture de l’os trabéculaire s’adapte avec précision aux chargements physiologiques. Les études précédentes ont déjà montré une relation claire entre l’architecture trabéculaire et le comportement locomoteur, principalement chez les mammifères et les oiseaux. Toutefois, le lien entre l’architecture trabéculaire et le mode de vie a rarement été étudié. Ici, l’architecture trabéculaire de différents reptiles a été mise en relation avec une large variabilité de modes de vie (aquatique, amphibie, terrestre). Les humeri de squamates, de tortues et crocodyliens ont été scannés par micro-tomographie à rayons X. L’analyse de volumes sphériques extraits de la métaphyse proximale de ces humeri a montré un signal phylogénétique significatif pour un seul des paramètres trabéculaires mesurés. Les analyses discriminantes linéaires suggèrent une bonne séparation des modes de vie selon les espaces morphologiques. De plus, une nouvelle méthode a permis d’estimer des chargements articulaires à partir de modèles d’éléments finis, issus de têtes humérales entières de tortues. Des biais liés aux fixations de ces modèles et à la forme de ces articulations ont été identifiés. Des chargements différents ont été calculés entre les nages et la marche de tortues amphibies. Enfin, les locomotions de deux tortues fossiles ont été inférées. Grâce à ces deux méthodes, l’architecture trabéculaire semble être un outil efficace pour inférer le mode de vie et la locomotion de tétrapodes éteints, spécialement ceux impliqués dans la terrestrialisation ou les retours au milieu aquatique
The lifestyle of extinct tetrapods is often difficult to assess when clear morphological adaptations, such as swimming paddles are absent. According to the hypothesis of bone functional adaptation, the architecture of trabecular bone adapts sensitively to physiological loadings. Previous studies have already shown a clear relation between trabecular architecture and locomotor behavior, mainly in mammals and birds. However, the link between trabecular architecture and lifestyle has rarely been examined. Here, trabecular architecture of different clades of reptiles has been correlated with a wide range of lifestyles (aquatic, amphibious, terrestrial). Humeri of squamates, turtles and crocodylians have been scanned with X-ray computed microtomography. The analysis of spherical volumes extracted from the proximal metaphyses of these humeri showed a significant phylogenetic signal for one of measured trabecular parameters. Linear discriminant analyses suggest a good separation of lifestyles in the morphological spaces. Furthermore, a new method allowed to estimate articular loadings for finite elements models from entire humeral heads of turtles. Biases related to fixations of these models and to their articular shapes has been identified. Different loadings has been calculated between the swimming and the walking of amphibious turtles. Finally, locomotions of two fossil turtles have been inferred. Thanks to these two methods, the trabecular architecture seems to be an effective tool to infer the lifestyle and the locomotion of extinct tetrapods, especially those involved in the terrestrialization and returns to aquatic environment

Abstract This study examines the effect of exile on Theodor Wolff’s writings from 1933 to 1943. Wolff, a highly assimilated German Jew and renowned journalist and editor-in-chief of the ‘Berliner Tageblatt’ from 1906-1933, was one of the most influential cultural and liberal political commentators during World War I and the Weimar Republic. His political life and influence has been extensively researched, whereas his life in exile has not been explored. Enforced sudden exile in 1933 represented a turning point in Wolff’s life. Following the temporal sequence of Wolff’s ten years in exile, this study is divided into four chapters, starting with the early exile years from 1933 to 1936, followed by the immediate pre World War II period. The third chapter covers the German invasion and occupation of France in 1940. The last chapter sheds light on the two final years from 1942 to 1943. These four periods reflect his exile experience and gradual decline in living conditions, mood, and fundamental changes in his approach to writing. In exile Wolff devotes his time and effort to historical accounts and fiction – a difficult genre for a publicist and journalistic writer. He also embarks on autobiographical writings and during his final years in exile deals with the Jewish catastrophe unfolding in Nazi controlled Europe, raising issues concerning the so called ‘Jewish Problem’. This study draws attention to the effect exile had on an important German- Jewish writer, who in 1943 fell victim to the Holocaust. Wolff’s works, especially his exile writings survived the war and remain relevant today. The findings of this research provide some insight into a turbulent period in German and European history that drastically changed many lives. It also makes a significant contribution to the study of Theodor Wolff and to exile studies in general.

Abstract:

In my Phd thesis, I deal with the juridical and political thought of Christian Wolff, trying to see its connections with his metaphysical and epistemological conception. In fact the idea of systema occupies a very important rule in Wolff’s philosophy, making a separate treatment of practical and theoretical problems impossible. After some biographical notes on the philosopher of Breslau, I deal with his theory of knowledge and his conception of philosophy as a «science of possible». Here I examine the conclusions of the more recent wolffian studies about very debated problems as the relationship between reason and experience, essence and existence, possibility and reality. Secondly, making use of the original texts – particularly of the Institutiones juris naturae et gentium – I analyse the wolffian conception of natural law. I deal with Wolff’s theory of actions, the principle of perfection, the concepts of state of nature, natural obligation, perfect and imperfect right. Nodal point of this analysis is the problem of the relationship between law and moral, resolved by Wolff in the sense of unity (Leibniz) and not of distinction (Thomasius). Thirdly, I examine the wolffian conception of social pact and State, emphasizing the close nexus between Wolff’s political and juridical doctrines. In fact, the fragilities of the state of nature are resolved in the political State, which is seen by Wolff as the main tool of the fulfillment of natural obligations. Here I treat the notions of pactum sociale, imperium publicum, bonum commune and civitas. Wolff’s theory is very detailed. Each concept is connected with the previous one, as imposed by the demonstrative method. The connection between natural law and Aufklärung allows us to see Wolff’s theory under a double perspective: on the one hand as a coherent development of Grotius’ ideas on natural law; on the other hand as a condition – along with the coming of codes – of the birth of legal positivism.
Nella mia tesi di dottorato affronto il pensiero giuridico e politico di Christian Wolff, cercando di vederne le connessioni con la concezione metafisica e gnoseologica. Infatti, come in quasi tutti gli autori illuministi, l’idea di sistema assume in Wolff un ruolo centrale, rendendo impossibile una trattazione separata dei problemi pratici da quelli teoretici. Dopo aver fornito alcuni cenni biografici sul filosofo di Breslavia al fine di collocarlo all’interno della sua epoca e di spiegarne le opzioni filosofiche di fondo, affronto la sua teoria della conoscenza e la sua concezione della filosofia come scienza del possibile. Qui riprendo e metto al vaglio le conclusioni degli studi wolffiani più recenti a proposito di problemi assai dibattuti come il rapporto fra ragione ed esperienza, essenza ed esistenza, possibilità e realtà. In secondo luogo, avvalendomi dei testi originali – in particolare delle Institutiones juris naturae et gentium –, analizzo la concezione wolffiana del diritto naturale. A tal fine seguo l’ordine con cui il filosofo di Breslavia tratta i problemi giuridici, partendo dalla teoria delle azioni, improntata al principio di perfezione, fino ai concetti, di stampo tipicamente giusnaturalistico, di stato di natura, obbligazione naturale, diritto perfetto e diritto imperfetto. Punto cruciale di quest’analisi è il problema del rapporto fra diritto e morale, risolto da Wolff all’insegna dell’unità e non della distinzione, secondo un’impostazione simile a quella di Leibniz e in netta discontinuità con quella di Thomasius. In terzo luogo prendo in esame la concezione wolffiana del contratto sociale e dello Stato, mettendo in evidenza la stretta connessione fra il discorso politico e quello giuridico, del quale il primo ne costituisce, per così dire, l’esito naturale. Le fragilità insite nello stato di natura trovano infatti soluzione nello Stato politico, che Wolff vede come lo strumento principale per l’adempimento delle obbligazioni naturali dell’individuo. In questa prospettiva prendo poi in esame le nozioni di pactum sociale, imperium publicum, bonum commune e civitas. Il quadro che ne risulta è quello di una teoria giuridica e politica estremamente dettagliata, nella quale ciascun concetto è legato all’altro secondo l’ordine imposto dal metodo dimostrativo. Qui sostengo che l’incontro del giusnaturalismo con lo spirito dell’Aufklärung permette di osservare l’opera wolffiana sotto una duplice prospettiva: da un lato quale coerente elaborazione teorica delle idee giusnaturalistiche risalenti a Grozio; dall’altro – e forse proprio in conseguenza di ciò – quale presupposto dell’ideologia giuspositivistica che, con l’avvento dei codici, avrebbe caratterizzato di lì a poco la cultura giuridica europea.

Abstract:

Walter Kempowski (1929-2007) is one of the most important authors in post-war German literature. In 1971, he published his first novel, Tadellöser & Wolff. This historical novel takes its point of departure in the everyday life of the bourgeois Kempowski family in Rostock shortly before and during World War II until the surrender of the city to the Red Army. The novel was initially very well received by literary critics and was also a commercial success. After the adaptation of the novel for film in 1975, Kempowski became even more of a public figure and won popular acclaim. In the film, however, important aspects of the novel’s literary mediation were lost, and as a result, the attitude among critics towards Kempowski changed considerably. In some groups he was viewed with suspicion and seen as the uncritical representative of the bourgeoisie. It was not until the beginning of the 1990s that he received extensive praise and recognition, much due to the publication of his multi-volume historical documentary work, Echolot. The present study explores Kempowski’s mode of writing in Tadellöser & Wolff from a narratological perspective. The main theoretical points of departure for the analysis are Franz K. Stanzel, one of the leading scholars of classical narratology, and Monika Fludernik, his successor in postmodern narratology. The mediation in the novel is very intricate and carries its theme in a complex and significant way. Though the novel depicts the milieu and atmosphere of the time in a detailed and realistic manner and, through the narrator, the voices, thoughts and opinions of the period resonate in a rich polyphony, yet the predominant narrative perspective is exploited in such a marked way as to create distance to what is portrayed. The fictional first-person narrator proves to be not altogether reliable.

O entendimento atual do papel desempenhado pela psicologia do filósofo alemão Christian Wolff (1679-1754) na história da psicologia é problemático, e isto em razão da persistência de algumas questões gerais a seu respeito tanto na historiografia da psicologia quanto na Wolff scholarship. Estas questões são: 1- Qual é a relação entre os escritos psicológicos alemães e latinos de Wolff? 2- Em que consiste a separação wolffiana entre psicologia empírica e racional? 3- Wolff adota uma perspectiva monista ou dualista em sua psicologia? Visando ao avanço do conhecimento a respeito da psicologia de Wolff, e de seu papel na história da psicologia, o presente estudo busca responder a estas questões, lançando mão de três hipóteses: (1) os escritos psicológicos de Wolff constituem uma unidade; (2) o sistema psicológico de Wolff constitui uma unidade; (3) monismo e dualismo constituem uma unidade na psicologia de Wolff. Após a explicação detalhada na Introdução do problema e dos procedimentos do estudo, nos Capítulos 1 e 2 é desenvolvida uma análise histórico-filosófica dos principais escritos psicológicos alemães e latinos de Wolff. Contrastando os dados desta análise com diversas teses da literatura secundária, no Capítulo 3 é realizada a avaliação das hipóteses. Na Conclusão, são retomadas as questões iniciais do estudo, e estimado o seu valor para a historiografia da psicologia e para a Wolff scholarship.
The current understanding of the role played by the psychology of German philosopher Christian Wolff (1679-1754) in the history of psychology is problematic. And the main reason is that, both in the historiography of psychology and in Wolff scholarship, some general questions remain unanswered: 1- What kind of relationship is there between Wolff‟s German and Latin psychological writings? 2- What does the Wolffian separation between empirical and rational psychology consist in? 3- Which perspective does Wolff adopt in his psychology: monist or dualist? Our study intends to answer these questions, and to contribute to the improvement of the available knowledge about Wolff‟s psychology and the role played by it in the history of psychology. Three hypotheses are presented here as possible answers: (1) Wolff‟s psychological writings form an unity; (2) Wolff‟s psychological system is an unity; (3) Wolff establishes an unity between monism and dualism in his psychology. After a thorough explanation of the research problems and procedures in the Introduction, Chapters 1 and 2 display a historical and philosophical analysis of Wolff‟s German and Latin main psychological writings. Chapter 3 contains the evaluation of the hypotheses, which is developed by means of the confrontation of the results from chapters 1 and 2 with several theses from the secondary literature. The Conclusion addresses once more those questions presented at the Introduction, and finishes with some general considerations regarding the value of this study to the historiography of psychology and to Wolff scholarship.

As arritmias cardíacas são uma importante causa de morte relacionada ao sistema cardiovascular. Entre os vários tipos de arritmias, a Síndrome de Wolff-Parkinson-White se destaca por crises recorrentes de taquicardia, que acontecem com mais frequência no primeiro ano de vida, na adolescência e nas pessoas acima dos 60 anos. Eventualmente, a morte súbita pode ser uma manifestação dessa síndrome, o que acontece mais frequentemente em adultos jovens. A ablação por cateter com radiofrequência tem sido amplamente utilizada nos pacientes com recorrência das taquicardias, pacientes reanimados de morte súbita, pacientes pouco sintomáticos e nos assintomáticos. Avaliar a efetividade e a segurança da ablação por cateter com radiofrequência comparada ao tratamento com antiarrítmicos para pacientes com Síndrome de Wolff-Parkinson-White. Revisão sistemática de estudos clínicos aleatorizados, seguindo a metodologia da Colaboração Cochrane. Realizamos, nas principais bases de dados, uma estratégia de busca para a identificação de estudos clínicos prospectivos, aleatorizados que compararam ablação por cateter versus tratamento com antiarrítmico. Os artigos foram recuperados eletronicamente e manualmente por meio de referências. Dois revisores, independentemente, avaliaram os artigos, excluindo os que não tinham o escopo dessa revisão. 222 artigos foram identificados pela estratégia de busca. Todos os artigos foram excluídos. Não encontramos evidências na literatura que comprovem que a ablação por cateter é mais efetiva e segura que o tratamento antiarrítmico para todos os portadores de Síndrome de Wolff-Parkinson-White
Cardiac arrhythmias are an important cause of death related to cardiovascular system. Among the various types of arrhythmias, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is distinguished by recurrent episodes of tachycardia that occur more frequently in the first year of life, in adolescence and in people over 60 years old. Eventually, sudden death can be a manifestation of this syndrome, which happens more often in young adults. The radiofrequency catheter ablation has been widely used in patients with recurrence of tachycardia, patients resuscitated from sudden death, mildly symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of radiofrequency catheter ablation compared with antiarrhythmic treatment for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome patients. A systematic review of randomized clinical trials, following the methodology of the Cochrane Collaboration. We carried out a search strategy in the main databases to identify randomized prospective clinical trials comparing catheter ablation versus antiarrhythmic therapy. The articles were retrieved electronically and manually by reference. In an independent manner, two reviewers evaluated the articles, excluding those that did not have the scope of this review. 222 articles were identified by search strategy. All articles were excluded. In the literature, it was found no evidence that catheter ablation is more effective and safer than antiarrhythmic treatment for all patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome

Alcaloides indolizidínicos, quinolizidínicos e piperidínicos poliidroxilados representam classes de compostos amplamente investigados atualmente. Este fato se deve às pronunciadas atividades biológicas como inibidores de glicosidases expressadas por estes heterociclos, o que significa um grande atrativo para que muitos grupos de pesquisas desenvolvam metodologias sintéticas para a sua obtenção de forma efetiva e em poucas etapas. Neste trabalho de dissertação é apresentada uma rota sintética para a preparação de alcaloides indolizidínicos e quinolizidínicos diidroxilados a partir de diazocetonas α,β-insaturadas. A estratégia para a síntese destes alcaloides baseia-se na mesma metodologia, tendo como etapas chaves: uma reação de olefinação de Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) a partir de aminoaldeídos, seguida de um Rearranjo de Wolff. Como material de partida para o esqueleto indolizidínico foi empregado o Cbz-S-prolinal. Este aminoaldeído foi empregado como fonte do centro estereogênico e de um dos anéis presentes na estrutura final. O acoplamento (reação de HWE) entre o Cbz-S-prolinal e um diazofosfonato recentemente descrito por nosso grupo de pesquisa forneceu um composto diazocarbonílico α,β-insaturado (67%), que em seguida, foi submetido a um rearranjo de Wolff fornecendo um éster β,γ-insaturado (96%). Este intermediário avançado foi funcionalizado através de uma reação de diidroxilação, a qual forneceu uma lactona (66%). A síntese foi completada através de uma reação de ciclização intramolecular (94%) seguida de uma reação de redução para fornecer a indolizidina diidroxilada em 71% de rendimento. Para o esqueleto quinolizidínico, foi empregado o aminoaldeído racêmico Cbz-(±)-pipecolinal como material de partida. A partir da reação de olefinação, foi obtida uma diazocetona α,β-insaturada (91%), que após Rearranjo de Wolff (95%), diidroxilação (75%), ciclização (54-74%) e reação de redução (87-90%), forneceu duas novas quinolizidinas diidroxiladas. Estes alcaloides indolizidínicos e quinolizidínicos poderão ser avaliados como inibidores de glicosidases.
Polyhydroxylated Indolizidine, quinolizidine and piperidine alkaloids represent classes of compounds widely investigated in the chemical community. This fact is due to their pronounced biological activities as glycosidase inhibitors. Considering that, many research groups have been developing new synthetic methodologies to obtain these alkaloids and analogs effectively and in few steps. This work presents a synthetic route for the preparation of dihydroxylated indolizidine and quinolizidine alkaloids from α,β-unsaturated diazoketones. The strategy for the synthesis of these compounds is based on the same methodology to construct the indolizidine and quinolizidine skeleton. The key steps involve a Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) olefination reaction from aminoaldehydes, followed by a Wolff Rearrangement. As the starting material to construct the indolizidine skeleton, Cbz-S-prolinal was employed. This aminoaldehyde is also the source of the stereogenic center and one of the rings present in the final structure. The coupling reaction (HWE reaction) between Cbz-S-prolinal and a diazophosphonate (methodology recently described by our research group) has provided an α,β-unsaturated diazoketone in 67% yield. This compound was then subjected to a Wolff Rearrangement, providing a β,γ-unsaturated ester in 96% yield. This advanced intermediate was functionalized through a high selective dihydroxylation reaction, furnishing a hydroxylated lactone in 66% yield. The synthesis was then completed employing an intramolecular cyclization reaction (94% yield), followed by lactam reduction to provide the dihydroxylated indolizidine (1,6-dideoxyepicastanospermine) in 71% yield. For the construction of the quinolizidine skeleton, was employed racemic Cbz-pipecolinal as the starting material. From the olefination reaction, the corresponding α,β-unsaturated diazoketone was obtained in 91% yield. After a Wolff Rearrangement (95%), dihydroxylation reaction (75%), cyclization (54-74%) and lactam reduction (87-90%), two novel dihydroxylated quinolizidines could be synthesized. These indolizidine and quinolizidine alkaloids may be evaluated as new inhibitors of glycosidases.

La vigueur de la métaphysique de l'école, de tradition aristotélicienne, puis l'avènement des philosophies leibnizienne et post-leibniziennes ont freiné le développement du cartésianisme en Allemagne. A l'aide de deux exemples, cette étude tente de montrer que l'influence de Descartes n'est toutefois pas absente au siècle de l'aufklarung. Ainsi, avant de devenir le vulgarisateur du leibnizianisme, Christian Wolff a été proche des milieux cartésiens. Sa métaphysique est fortement marquée par la "philosophie première" cartésienne, même si elle conservé, à côté du "cogito" et d'une théologie en partie cartésienne, une ontologie héritée des métaphysiciens de l'école. Mendelssohn par contre, quoique plus proche du Leibniz de la monadologie, emprunte à Descartes le cheminement de la pensée dans les méditations, en passant par le doute, le "cogito" et les preuves de l'existence de dieu, dans le souci de remédier au défaut de l'essentialisme leibnizien qui ne parvient pas à la connaissance des choses qui existent, c'est-à-dire qui ne fournit pas de passage du possible au réel. Contrairement à la métaphysique de Wolff, celle de Mendelssohn semble réussir la synthèse entre la philosophie première des méditations de Descartes et la théodicée et la monadologie leibniziennes
The vigor of the traditional Aristotelian school metaphysics, and later the rise of the leibnizian and post-leibnizian philosophies have confined the development of cartesianism in Germany. By two examples, this study makes out that the influence of Descartes is not completely lacking at the time of the aufklarung. Before becoming the vulgarizing out spreader of leibnizianism, Christian Wolff has been close to cartesian circles. His metaphysics are in a high degree marked by the cartesian "prima philosophia", although they keep contiguous to the "cogito" and to a partially cartesian theology, an ontology inherited from school metaphysics. Although he stands closer to the Leibniz of the monadology, Mendelssohn for his part adopts the process of thought in Descartes' meditations, comprising the methodical doubt, the "cogito" and the proofs for god's existence, trying to correct the insufficiency of leibnizian essentialism that doesn't attain the knowledge of what really exists, i. E. That doesn't reveal a passage from the merely possible to reality. Far better than Wolff, Mendelssohn seems to achieve in his metaphysics a synthesis of the "prima philosophia" of Descartes' meditations and the leibnizian theodicy and monadology

Given p, 1<p<∞, fixed, we impose conditions on the function A=(A1,…,Am):Rn×Rm→Rm, which imply that the equation is a quasi-linear partial differential equation of p-Laplace type structured on vector fields satisfying the classical Hörmander condition. In the case p=2 and for linear equations, our result coincides with the doubling property of associated elliptic measures. To prove our result we establish, and this is of independent interest, a Wolff potential estimate for subelliptic equations of p-Laplace type.
