Abstract:
Traffic congestion in urban cities is an increasing problem. Not only does it lead to an increase in pollution, but the time spent waiting in traffic queues wastes valuable time in addition to causing frustration. A system that can control and manage traffic efficiently is one way that this issue can be reduced.A specific road traffic intersection in South Manchester, UK, was selected for investigation as it experiences high levels of traffic flow through it during the evening peak time. This has led to large queues and long waiting times due to the fixed timings of the traffic lights. This paper explores strategies to better control the traffic flow through it. A model of the selected traffic junction has been built using Witness simulation software. Data for this junction has been obtained partially from observations and mostly from traffic surveys enabling a simulation of the traffic flow. Analysing the results allowed two alternative scenarios to be developed and simulated. Results from one of the scenarios showed noticeable reductions in the average queue waiting times at the traffic junction.

Abstract:
The concept of logistics system simulation and the basic applications of Witness are introduced in this paper. By a specific example, the simulation model is found about the production process of steel logistics system by Witness. The relationship of production process and computer simulation is illustrated, further, the simulation model is ran and outcome is obtained. Based on the example of the production process of BF-BOF region in iron and steel enterprise simulation model, the method of the production process with WITNESS is analyzed. By setting the parameters to achieve the purpose of the actual production process is optimized. Finally, more feasible solution is put forward by simulation analysis

Abstract:
Abstract The paper presents the simulation study results of the traffic system in the city of Hlohovec. The authors describe the process of building the model in Witness 2013c simulator. The individual entities of simulation model are explained in details, as the Witness simulator is primarily suitable for manufacture or service simulation and not for traffic system simulation. The goal of this paper is to analyse the traffic system and to suggest the changes for improving the traffic in the city of Hlohovec. All proposed measures will bring about 20% improvement of traffic when compared to the current state.

Abstract:
Design solution of material flows planning in manufacturing systems belongs to key aspects that the project engineers must resolute. The conception and technical material flow realisation considerable define the dependability, promptness, consistence and next needed flows of work in the material flow. These necessary material flow functions influence the production quality, the amounts of production costs and the producer profitability. Follow up is starting to use the simulation methods at material flow designs and innovations. These methods are used in verification of new designs of material flows or in validation of just realised material flows. There is possibility of verification and validation usage by software Witness. Witness software simulation offers an optimal solution of problems by means. It enables to simulate working environment as well as material flows. The result is the higher efficiency of whole process and elimination of problems.

Abstract:
The latter half of the twentieth century witnessed an ‘intensional revolution’, a great collective effort to analyse notions which are absolutely fundamental to our understanding of the world and of ourselves—from meaning and information to knowledge, belief, causation, essence, supervenience, conditionality, as well as nomological, metaphysical, and logical necessity—in terms of a single concept. This was the concept of a possible world: a way things could have been. Possible worlds found applications in logic, metaphysics, semantics, game theory, information theory, artificial intelligence, and the philosophy of mind and cognition. However, possible worlds analyses have been facing numerous problems. This book traces them all back to hyperintensionality: the need for distinctions more fine-grained than the possible worlds apparatus can easily represent. It then introduces impossible worlds—ways things could not have been—as a general tool for modelling hyperintensional phenomena. The book discusses the metaphysics of impossible worlds and applies them to a range of central topics and open issues in logic, semantics, and philosophy: from the problem of logical omniscience in epistemic logic, to the semantics of non-classical logics, the modelling of imagination and mental simulation, the analysis of information and informative inference, truth in fiction, and counterpossible reasoning.
