Le, Heron Erena. "Making film-landscapes and exploring the geographical resonances of The Lord of the Rings and Whale Rider." Thesis, University of Sheffield, 2008. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/14936/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores film resonances and film-landscape interactions. Film resonances refer to the multiple and varied ways people respond to films. Film-landscape describes the interaction between film and people's experience of landscape, containing a notion that landscape is always-in-the-making. Film resonances and film-landscape . interactions are explored in the contemporary New Zealand context, focusing on The Lord of the Rings and Whale Rider. The thesis explores film resonances at several levels: analysing film-tours in terms of film-landscape interactions; exploring how the same films have different resonances and reactions in different places; interrogating the relationship between popular, government and business responses to films; and examining the relationship between film and national identity narratives. Together, The Lord of the Rings and Whale Rider can be used as a prism through which to highlight particular elements ofthe New Zealand contemporary moment. A multiple method approach is used, including in-depth interviews, focus groups, conversational interviews, participant observation and analysis of newspaper articles and internet movie databases. This thesis adds to and extends current literature by considering The Lord of the Rings and Whale Rider with a more-than-film approach. It draws on a mixture of theories, arguing that considered separately, current literature does not fully address the potential of film-landscape and film resonances. Through a more-than-film approach, the thesis engages with film resonances and film-landscape interactions in ways that acknowledge the work film does outside of production or viewing. The thesis will also be of interest to all those concerned with the power of film and how it has the potential to influence our landscapes, our imaginations and our identities.

Johnston, Emma Anne. "Healing maori through song and dance? Three case studies of recent New Zealand music theatre." Thesis, University of Canterbury. Theatre and Film Studies, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10092/980.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis investigates the way "healing" may be seen to be represented and enacted by three recent New Zealand music theatre productions: Once Were Warriors, the Musical-Drama; The Whale Rider, On Stage; and Footprints/Tapuwae, a bicultural opera. This thesis addresses the ways each of these music theatre productions can be seen to dramatise ideologically informed notions of Maori cultural health through the encounter of Maori performance practices with American and European music theatre forms. Because the original colonial encounter between Maori and Pakeha was a wounding process, it may be possible that in order to construct a theatrical meeting between the "colonised" Maori and the "colonial" non-Maori, "healing" is an essential element by which to foster an idea of the post-colonial, bicultural togetherness of the nation. In all three productions, Maori song and dance forms are incorporated into a distinctive form of western music theatre: the American musical; the international spectacle; Wagnerian opera. Wagner's attempts to regenerate German culture through his music dramas can be compared to Maori renaissance idea(l)s of cultural "healing" through a "return" to Maori myths, traditions and song and dance.

Buchmann, Anne-Kristina. "In the footsteps of the fellowship : understanding the expectations and experiences of Lord of the rings tourists on guided tours in New Zealand." Lincoln University, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10182/145.

Full text
Abstract:
This study seeks to gain an insight into the experiences Lord of the Rings tourists have on guided tours in New Zealand and the role of the tour guide(s) in that experience. The study examines motivations, expectations, actual experience and its evaluation and the role of the tour leader and guides. By drawing primarily on the results of qualitative research that examined the experience of film tourists and other people involved in the film tourism industry over a span of three years, I identified underlying motivations involved in the production and consumption of film tourism. The study found that pre-tour images of Lord of the Rings and its publicity surrounding the making of the films play a significant role in the formation of film tourists' expectations. The emotional relationship towards the films and the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien had motivated film tourists to seek a meaningful and sincere experience. Furthermore, the film and its making as discussed on the DVDs, further publicised myths like the authenticity of the film production itself and the experience of great meaning for one's personal life. Consequently, the study found that most film tourists put a high significance on the sincerity of the relationships within the tour community and with the tour leader and guide(s). The film location visit itself was experienced as highly rewarding but was significantly enhanced by the presence of the tour community ('fellowship'), reenactments and the physical presence on site. This embodiment was crucial for the overall experience as it further authenticated the location visit but also the journey itself as a worthy and spiritual endeavour. It was shown that the New Zealand image of 'green', 'clean' and 'exotic otherness' has been reinforced by multiple media portraits and matches many aspects of the Middle-earth image. All film tourists judged the use of New Zealand for the portrayal of Middle-earth as 'authentic' even if they knew about J.R.R. Tolkien's British background. Furthermore, they judged their film tourism experience as authentic even though the locations were used in a fictional setting. Thus the notions of object authenticity was explored and replaced with the concepts of existential authenticity and sincerity to shift the focus towards the active process of negotiation of authenticity in the tourism experience. To understand tourists' behaviour and motivation, notions of 'spirituality' and 'pilgrimage' were also employed. The study tourists undertook a meaningful and spiritually significant journey that was enhanced through the experience of embodiment and community which suggested parallels between the religious pilgrim and the secular film tourist. Both are on a meaningful journey to distant places and follow scripted guidelines while also creating their own experience. Embodiment played an important role. Furthermore, film tourists sought the community of other believers and were willing to 'follow in the footsteps' of film stars and crew when choosing which film locations and eateries to visit as they sought places that had attained an 'aura'.

Abstract:
Research can conflict with conservation when invasive techniques are used on protected animal species. We developed a decision framework including the research question, the choice of technique, and the recommended course of action following the evaluation of the risks and benefits. This evaluation includes biological risks and benefits and considerations linked to the perception of resource users. We applied this framework a posteriori to a case study, the use of biopsy sampling on St. Lawrence belugas. We monitored the biological risks and benefits over four field seasons using behavioural and physiological indices and reports on the work in progress. We evaluated the risks as "low" and the benefits as "medium". For benefits to outweigh risks, procedures to minimise risks, publication of the work, and formulation of recommendations for conservation are essential. Researchers should be prepared to discuss with stakeholders the potential conflicts between their projects and conservation.

Abstract:
The regional distribution of Holocene sediments of eastern Hudson Bay off the Great Whale River mouth was mapped using a grid of reflection seismic lines over 60 km long and covering an area of approximately 800 km$ sp2$ and data from eight piston cores. A larger data base and a greater area of study than that used in previous studies significantly increases our understanding of the sedimentation and deglaciation processes that have occurred in the area since the last deglaciation. Based on the seismic records and piston cores, four stratigraphic units overlying the Proterozoic bedrock (unit 1) were defined and interpreted: unit 2, glacial till deposited by a westward flowing ice sheet; unit 3, glaciolacustrine stratified muds deposited in glacial Lake Ojibway; unit 4, postglacial marine muds deposited in Tyrell Sea; unit 5, distal fluvio-deltaic sediments from the Great Whale River. Textural and geochemical analyses of individual laminae suggest that unit 3 rhythmites are true varves; dark "summer" laminae were deposited mainly by underflows during the open water season, and light "winter" laminae were deposited by overflows-interflows under a seasonal ice cover. Unit 5 covers approximately 400 km$ sp2$ and occurs as a deltaic constructional wedge which reaches 11 km offshore of the Great Whale River entrance. It was deposited between 3500 BP and 2800 BP from material supplied by the erosion of the Sakami Moraine and of glaciolacustrine and marine muds exposed along the river banks.

Abstract:
For the last three years, D.C. United and the District of Columbia have been negotiating a site for a new stadium for their soccer club. The owners of United wanted to take a small parcel of the land now known as â Poplar Pointâ , an undeveloped brown-field on the Southeast side of the Anacostia River. The switch from the Anthony Williams to the Adrian Fenty administration in 2007 has proven unkind for the club, which to this day is embroiled in negotiations with the City for the Poplar Point site. While following this debate in the media, I couldnâ t help but question why United was not pursuing a plot of land on their current site. The club now plays in RFK Stadium, a venue ill-equipped for the sport that costs the club millions of dollars a year because they cannot fill its stands. The site, however, is located on axis with the Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial. My initial research brought me to France in the 18th century.

Mehler, Wesley Tyler. "Identification of the sediment-associated contaminants in the Illinois River Complex using a toxicity identifcation evaluation (TIE)." OpenSIUC, 2009. https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/theses/134.

Full text
Abstract:
The difficulty of assessing risk of sediment-associated contaminant mixtures to benthic ecosystems is often attributed to understanding the bioavailable fraction of each contaminant. These issues have led to the development of the toxicity identification evaluation (TIE). Past pore water TIE testing on Illinois River sediments has indicated that ammonia was the primary contaminant. The current study, however, suggests that ammonia is no longer the primary contaminant of concern, but rather non-polar organics, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, are the primary cause for toxicity in the Illinois River Complex (IRC). Summer of 2007 testing showed that six out of the seven sites that proceeded to Phase I testing exhibited a significant increase in survival with the addition of the non-polar organic amendment powdered coconut charcoal (PCC), while zeolite (ammonia amendment) and Resin Tech SIR 300 (cationic metals amendment) did not significantly increase survival suggesting that non-polar organics are the source of toxicity. In addition, Phase II testing suggested that concentrations of PAHs were high enough to cause the observed toxicity, which confirmed the results of Phase I testing. Additional seasonal-based sampling (i.e., fall, winter, spring, and summer 2008) supported the summer findings, with little variation between toxicity and concentrations, with 46% of the sites being improved with the addition of PCC in Phase I testing. The results of Phase I and Phase II contradicted past pore water TIE studies as non-polar organics were suggested as the source of toxicity rather than ammonia. Thus, both pore water and whole sediment TIE methodologies were used on two selected sites. The results of this study suggested that discordance between the past pore water TIEs and the current whole sediment TIE were attributed to the methodologies and on a lesser note the test organisms used. The present study provides data that could be used in combination with previous work to more accurately characterize the sources and spatial trends of toxicity in Illinois River sediments for future risk assessment and mitigation. Furthermore, the present study showed that while TIE methodologies are a valuable tool in assessing risk associated with contaminants in aquatic system, further research in understanding the role that each TIE method may serve in risk assessment is also important.

Abstract:
Twentieth Century Americans witnessed the construction of numerous massive dams that controlled the flow of rivers across the country. Many of these dams were built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve navigation and to provide inexpensive electricity and flood control. This paper will seek to shed light on Georgia’s current water crisis by analyzing the initial purposes behind the building of Buford Dam in North Georgia, investigating how water supply issues were addressed in the first half of the twentieth century, and exploring how expectations of the Chattahoochee River changed over time due in part to metropolitan Atlanta’s population growth. This paper will show that Atlanta area leaders secured appropriations for Buford Dam primarily to obtain a reliable water supply and additional electricity for their burgeoning community.

Abstract:
Ön is an island in central Ume River. Today Ön is a rural, green place with key habitats and historical values. In 2008 the municipality took the decision to exploit it by building city there. The decision was preceded by the emerging growth target, for Umeå, to become 200,000 inhabitants in 2050. The research material for this paper consists of legal documents, reports, literature, interviews, and own observations. It can be divided into three main parts. The first part, which is the ‘growth discourse’, is investigated through documents concerning political strategies and influences from within the field in relation to Umeå as a city. The second part consists of research around the ‘image’ of Norrland and the third part focus on questions involving well-being through nature and the concept of Ecosystem Services, in relation to Ön. In this paper, I advocate for an alternative plan concerning Ön and its unique set of qualities: the rural, historical, and nature dominated atmosphere adjacent to the city of Umeå. I argue that the value of this land is greater in its natural vesture, than it would be with added asphalt and concrete. The values of concern are non-monetary, but might as well become monetary in the more long-term scenario. There is mounting evidence of benefits derived from nature, when it comes to human well-being, and further that ecosystems provide services of major importance to us. Ecosystem Services are the benefits people obtain from ecosystems. Ön possesses many of these services today. It holds potential for further cultivation and capacity to become amplified as a recreation area in central Umeå. The objective of this master thesis is to define and validate the qualities of Ön; and further, to develop a programme of possible interventions, in order to preserve and intensify the present atmosphere. This is conducted by identifying Ecosystem Services in the current context; and ways to enhance them, in order to propose an alternative plan for Ön.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis concerns the development of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) through reading a work of postcolonial literature (The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera, 2005) in an English class. The theoretical part explains notions such as intercultural communicative competence and culture. It also describes the benefits of reading in ELT. The practical part presents a project consisting of altogether twelve lessons dedicated to reading The Whale Rider. The aim of the project is to support the pupils' development of ICC, make them aware of other English-speaking cultures than just the traditionally presented ones and, last but not least, to develop their language skills. The outcome of the project is, besides the expected raised level of ICC, which is, however, hard to measure, a poster about Maori culture realized by the pupils. This thesis is a comparison and contrast of two pieces of young adult fiction, The Whale Rider and Black Wings. The Whale Rider is a story based on a Maori myth ---Paikea, the whale rider. The main character is a teenage girl, Kahu, who (just like Paikea) has the ability to talk to whales. Unfortunately, being a girl makes her grandfather reject her because of her inability to assume traditional male leadership roles. Black Wings is a story about four Tao boys who live close to Taiwan on Orchid Island. They start building dreams about their futures and each of them has different achievements that build towards fulfilling their dreams. The fly fish myth is also applied at the beginning of the story. Both The Whale Rider and Black Wings show indigenous literature elements, such as mythology, cultural conflicts and the relationship with nature/ocean. The first chapter of this study serves as a general introduction of the cultural and literature background of Maori in New Zealand and Tao on Orchid Island, Taiwan. The second chapter reviews previous studies of the two writers, Witi Ihimaera and Syaman Rapongan, and their work. Chapter Three analyses the conflicts in the stories. Chapter Four illustrates how the writers try to inspire young readers’ towards self-recognition. The fifth chapter analyses the images and symbolism of the ocean in both texts. Chapter Six is a conclusion which compares and contrasts the writers’ ideas of culture, self-recognition and nature. The two stories share many similarities but also many differences. How the writers view their own culture and the purpose of their writing is also different.

Paternity and gender relations in Witi Ithimaera’s Whale Rider and King of the Gypsies Author: Hsin Yau Huang Abstract Due to different cognitive initial points, each person has his/her impression on gender, so it will generate different identity. By analyzing these two books, this study discusses how people with different genders behave in life under patriarchy faced with unequal powers. It aims to explore the important concepts of gender in the progress of growing. By learning the gender differences and analyzing the key factors to challenge paternity, the true meaning of human rights can be realized. This thesis falls into five chapters. Chapter one is the introduction part. Chapter two is an exploration of the author Witi Ihimaera, which is divided into three sections, including the author’s backgrounds, his creative ideas as well as writing style. Chapter three analyzes how the heroine Koro in Whale Rider who was ineligible for the succession of chief of the tribe broke down the superiority of male by showing her female consciousness. Chapter four gives an analysis on how Simon in King of the Gypsis challenged paternity and fought against male violence and finally had a clear understanding of male status. Chapter five makes a profound introspection on Whale Rider and King of the Gypsis by respectively probing into the neaped old tribe chief, solitary King of Gypsis along with the surpass of Koro and Simon. By discussing the two multi-culture novels, this thesis puts forward another possibility for the effect brought by the gender barriers under paternity and the relationship mode of two genders. Riders of twelve motorcycles, comprising 6 full-scale motorbikes and 6 motor-scooters, and 5 sedan vehicles, performed test runs on a 20.6km paved road composed of 5km, 5km, and 10.6km of rural, provincial and urban routes, respectively. Each test-run of motorcycle was separately performed under speed limits of 55km/h and 40km/h. Tri-axial accelerations of whole-body vibration (WBV) were obtained by using a seat pad and a portable data logger, and the driver’s view was videotaped with a portable media recorder. Root mean square (RMS) acceleration, 8-hr estimated vibration dose value (VDV(8)) and 8-hr estimated static compression dose (Se(8)) were determined from the collected data in accordance with ISO 2631-1 and ISO 2631-5 guidelines. Experimental results indicate that the WBV values of the sedan vehicle drivers have low RMS, VDV(8) and Se(8) values (RMS 0.27 - 0.32 m/s2; VDV(8) 6.3 - 8.3m/s1.75; Se(8) 0.21 - 0.26 MPa). However, over 90% of the motorcycle riders had VDV(8) (mean 23.5m/s1.75) exceeding the ISO 2631-1 daily exposure limit (17m/s1.75), or had Se(8) (mean 1.17MPa) exceeding the ISO 2631-5 lifetime exposure limit (0.8MPa). These limits are associated with high probability of adverse health effects. Over 50% of the motorcycle riders reached these exposure limits for VDV and Se(8) in less than 2 hours. The WBV exposure levels of the full-scale motorbikes riders and motor-scooter riders were not significantly different. However, the RMS and VDV(8) values of motorcycle riders indicate significant roadway effect (p<0.001), while their Se(8) values indicate significant speed limit effect (p<0.05). This study concludes that the WBV exposure levels of common motorcycle riders are distinctively higher than those of four-wheel vehicles. The impact on health of WBV exposure in motorcycle riders should be carefully addressed with reference to ISO 2631-1 and ISO 2631-5.

Smith, Alexander J. "Beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas) use of the Nelson River estuary, Hudson Bay." 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/1993/8019.

Full text
Abstract:
Most beluga whales (Delphinapterus leucas) (Pallas 1776) living in areas of seasonal sea ice use estuaries periodically during summer. Beluga estuary-use hypotheses include feeding, calving, moulting, killer whale (Orcinus orca) predation, human predation, thermal advantage, and phylogenetic inertia. The hypotheses may not be mutually exclusive and may vary with populations or regions. This study describes aspects of beluga whale summer-ecology by studying the association between inter-annual water levels and beluga habitat selection in the Nelson River estuary. Flow rates from upstream Limestone Dam doubled from the dry years of 2002-2004 to the wet year of 2005. I used radio-tracking data (N=15, 2002-2005) and aerial surveys (2003, 2005) to test the hypothesis (H1) that belugas were farther out in the estuary during the wet year. Model variables included year, day, time, tide and age-sex. Observed location-habitat distances for the radio-tracking and aerial survey data were compared to the random equivalents using a Kolmogorov-Smimov (KS) test. A cumulative sign test determined the timing of a beluga shift in movement behaviour on August 10th. Pre-August 10th radio-tracking locations provided the spatial-temporal boundary of the Nelson River estuary. General Linear Models (GLM) for both the telemetry and aerial survey data show an association between beluga distance to the river-mouth and year. Study results provide evidence to weigh the main estuary-use hypotheses and contriubte to knowledge of beluga ecology and management.

Twenty-two male and 23 female motorcycle riders performed 90 test runs on six 20km paved urban routes. Each participant randomly performed test-run of motorcycle on 2 different routes. Triaxial accelerations of whole-body vibration(WBV)were obtained by using a seat pad and a portable data logger, and the driver’s view was videotaped with a portable media recorder. Root mean square(RMS)acceleration, 8-hr estimated vibration dose value(VDV(8))and 8-hr estimated static compression dose(Se(8))were determined from the collected data by ISO 2631-1 and ISO 2631-5 guidelines. Experimental results indicate that over 90% of the motorcycle riders had VDV(8)(22.41±3.77m/s1.75)exceeding the ISO 2631-1 daily exposure limit(17m/s1.75), or had Se(8)(1.11±0.38MPa) exceeding the ISO 2631-5 lifetime exposure limit(0.8MPa). Over 50% of the motorcycle riders reached these exposure limits for VDV and Se in less than 3 hours. Significant greater exposure levels were observed in male participants in vibration parameters of VDV(8)(p<0.05), and Se(8)(p<0.005). This study concludes the WBV exposure levels of common motorcycle riders are distinctly high even on a regular paved road. The impact on health of WBV exposure in motorcycle riders should be carefully addressed with reference to ISO 2631-1 and ISO 2631-5.

Chmelnitsky, Elly. "Beluga whale, Delphinapterus leucas, vocalizations and their relation to behaviour in the Churchill River, Manitoba, Canada." 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/1993/4189.

Full text
Abstract:
The investigation of a species’ repertoire and the contexts in which different calls are used is central to understanding vocal communication among animals. Beluga whale, Delphinapterus leucas, calls were classified and described in association with behaviours, from recordings collected in the Churchill River, Manitoba, during the summers of 2006-2008. Calls were subjectively classified based on sound and visual analysis into whistles (64.2% of total calls; 22 call types), pulsed or noisy calls (25.9%; 15 call types), and combined calls (9.9%; seven types). A hierarchical cluster analysis, using six call measurements as variables, separated whistles into 12 groups and results were compared to subjective classification. Beluga calls associated with social interactions, travelling, feeding, and interactions with the boat were described. Call type percentages, relative proportions of different whistle contours (shapes), average frequency, and call duration varied with behaviour. Generally, higher percentages of whistles, more broadband pulsed and noisy calls, and shorter calls (<0.49s) were produced during behaviours associated with higher levels of activity and/or apparent arousal. Information on call types, call characteristics, and behavioural context of calls can be used for automated detection and classification methods and in future studies on call meaning and function.

Tang, Tingsheng. "A study of ride comfort performance of occupant on car seat exposed to whole-body vibration." Thesis, 2002. http://spectrum.library.concordia.ca/1940/1/MQ77982.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
The perception of whole-body vibration and automotive driver/passenger comfort is strongly influenced by the static and dynamic properties of the seat. The analysis of comfort performance of the polyurethane foam (PUF) seats poses considerable challenges due to nonlinear properties of PUF and complex biodynamic response behavior of the human body. In this dissertation, the static and dynamic properties of three PUF seats are characterized in the laboratory under a wide range of preloads and excitation conditions. The measured data are analyzed to determine the stiffness and damping models of the seats as a function of the preload, and relative deflection and relative velocity of the cushion. The models thus derived are analyzed to study the vibration transmission performance of PUF seats loaded with a rigid mass under broadband as well as road-measured random excitation. Laboratory experiments are performed to evaluate vibration responses of the seat-rigid mass system and the data are used to examine the validity of the proposed models under the wide range of conditions considered. The analytical model of the seat-rigid mass system resulted in good agreements with the measured data in terms of acceleration transmissibility. A number of performance measures are formulated to assess the vibration isolation effectiveness of the seat. These included the true and frequency weighted rms acceleration, S.E.A.T. (Seat Effective Amplitude Transmissibility) values, and peak acceleration. A parametric study is carried out to study the influence of stiffness and damping gains, body-weight, frequency and relative deflection dependence of the PUF stiffness and damping on the vibration isolation effectiveness.

The aim of the study was to use in vitro human whole blood cultures to screen the water samples collected from the Eerste/Plankenbrug river system for cytotoxicity and inflammatory activity and for the first time investigate the impact on the cell- mediated and humoral immune pathways. Water samples were collected fronm the sites during the dry summer season and rainy winter season. Blood was collected from the healthy male volunteers and diluted with RPMI 1640. For cytotoxicity and inflammatory activity 2.5ul of blood for 18-20 hrs at 37 C... This study shows that waster from the Plankenbrug River is heavily polluted by contaminants from both the agricultural area and informal settlement of Kayamandi. These contaminants can be potentially immunotoxic during the summer season and they can result in inflammatory diarrheal disease and immunosuppression in exposed individuals..."

Abstract:
To aid the tuning and optimization of the truck seat design to specific trucks and road profiles during the design phase, this study presents the development and validation of a virtual seat model. This study also assess the utility of the model for whole body vibrations evaluation. The virtual dynamic seat model was developed in MSC. ADAMS/VIEW. The critical elements like the suspension mechanism, the airspring, dampers and seat cushion were modeled using tested data. To validate the performance of the virtual model, prototype tests were performed using the MTS 6-axis simulator. The modeling process was targeted to achieve a good correlation between measured and simulated data around the 5Hz frequency zone. For validation of the complete system, three test sessions were carried out. The first session collected the vibration data for validating the simulator model and the suitability of the data processing methods used. The second, collected the force-displacement data for the airspring modeling. The third test session involved the testing of the entire seat and simulator system. Validation of the virtual model is based on comparison of the tested and simulated data. The results are presented for steady-state sinusoidal inputs in the range 1,5 and 8Hz and also random inputs of 0.5-20Hz. Analysis of the whole body vibration evaluation parameters like peaks, crest factor, rms, rmq (root-mean-quad), VDV (vibration dose value) and eVDV (estimated VDV) is also included. The results obtained in this study indicate that the virtual model is able to reproduce the vibration behavior of the prototype fairly accurately in the 5Hz target region. With higher frequencies, the results shown that the model is not able to capture the nonlinearities observed in the prototype’s response. The model, however, did exhibit its ability to predict the behavioral trends in the seat response which can prove to be very beneficial for seat design. Based on the level of agreement between the tested and simulated values for the whole body vibration parameters, the use of this model for whole body vibration evaluations looks promising.
