Abstract:
Background: The estimated national prevalence of childhood blindness was 0.8 per 1000. Childhood blindness is a priority area because of the number of years of blindness in the life-time of a child. About one-third of India's blind lose their eye-sight before the age of 20 years making early detection and treatment of ocular morbidity very crucial. This study aimed at estimating the proportion of ocular morbidities among school students in a secondary school in an urban area of West Bengal. Methods: It was a cross-sectional institution-based observational study conducted in August 2017 among 151 school students of 7th to 9th standard in an urban area of West Bengal. Data was obtained using a structured questionnaire followed by checking of visual acuity by Snellen’s chart. Visual acuity of 6/9 or more in any one eye was taken as a sign of visual impairment. Data was analysed using SPSS version 16.0.Results: Out of 151 students, 51.0% were found to have refractive error. The most frequently reported was difficulty in seeing among 43.7% of the students followed by headache while studying (36.4%) and pain in eyes (35.1%). Also, 9.9% of the students reported difficulty in seeing at night. Tests of association revealed that posture and screen time were significantly associated with presence of refractive error. Conclusions: The study revealed that high prevalence of refractive error among school students. Periodic screening of school children and spreading of awareness regarding correct posture and screen time are very essential to improve the quality of eye sight.

Abstract Lebourges-Dhaussy, A., Coetzee, J., Hutchings, L., Roudaut, G., and Nieuwenhuys, C. 2009. Zooplankton spatial distribution along the South African coast studied by multifrequency acoustics, and its relationships with environmental parameters and anchovy distribution. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 66: 1055–1062. The Central Agulhas Bank (CAB) is an important component of the southern Benguela ecosystem. Despite relatively low primary production, secondary production supports large populations of mid-trophic-level pelagic fish. Exhaustive sampling of the Agulhas Bank ecosystem was performed during a routine acoustic biomass survey in November 2006. A TAPS-6 was deployed with near-simultaneous, plankton-net sampling. Concurrent collections of fish-school and environmental data permitted a detailed study of the water column. Zooplankton was classified by equivalent spherical diameter (ESD; mm): 0.0–0.35 (Class I), 0.35–0.8 (Class II), 0.8–2 (Class III), and >2.0 mm (Class IV). Clear relationships with environmental parameters were only evident at night on the CAB (west of 23°E) for Classes II and III. Class III exhibited pronounced diel vertical migrations, whereas Class I exhibited a reverse pattern. Also observed were the effects of anchovy predation on small zooplankton aggregated in areas of high chlorophyll a.

Abstract:
Teaching English as Foreign Language to Indonesian students encourages teachers to motivate them in their language study by getting them to engage in successful writing and speaking skills. It can be early learning as relevant as possible to their language use needs. Based on a qualitative design, this study investigated the way an English teacher of eleventh-grade students used an integrated skills approach to teaching writing and speaking in the classroom. The research was conducted at one of the senior high schools in West Java, Indonesia with a qualitative method to explore deep information about the strategies and challenges encountered by the English teacher when she was teaching. The specific strategy revealed that the teacher organized activities and encouraged the students through Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) including other strategies to overcome the challenges such as providing consultation and providing learning at night as an extra class. This study is expected to chronicle the need for this approach to be incorporated by English teachers in secondary schools to improve English teaching strategy today and future.

Abstract:
The instruction of the four English skills was affected by the interruption of face-to-face classes during the pandemic and the lack of strategies to adequately assume virtuality. Given the situation, different investigations have shown that reading and writing have been the least developed skills in virtual reality. This research focused on the impact that the creation of comics using information and communication technologies and the autonomous learning of adult students from a night high school located in Costa Rica had on improving their reading and writing skills. The creation of comics was implemented as a new strategy to analyze the scope of the use of technologies in the learning process considering its role in current life. Autonomy was analyzed during the study using selected instrumentation to evaluate the actions carried out by the students before and after the implementation of the activities, as well as the improvement of reading and writing. The results obtained showed an improvement that went beyond reading and writing skills, the use of ICT and autonomy were positively affected, in addition to demonstrating that all the elements used worked complementing each other in the same strategy.

Abstract:
In my medical year there was a student who had been in the RAF in World War II. After the war he worked for Beaverbrook and the Express newspapers and went on to become a publisher. He studied medicine, while a publisher, and then came the crunch. To be a publisher or a doctor? On the first day of house jobs he inadvertently drove his Jaguar into the consultant's reserved parking spot, which caused no amusement. To add to his disquiet he found that his salary of £35 per month, after income tax, and then surtax on top, only paid for his pipe tobacco and refreshments. The rest of us were less egregious and embarked upon life with even less fiscal fun. A bottle of Woodpecker Cider on Saturday night was nirvana. Was this really the reward for all that education? (Most specialists had at least 28 years of formal education: from starting at age four to leaving postgraduate school.) Like many before me, particularly Edinburgh graduates, I crossed the high seas, at the age of 32. My naval forebears would have been surprised that it took so long, especially my father, who went to sea at 14 in World War I. There were many surprises, not least of which was that of money. In a career sojourn, from the UK to Australia and finally Canada, over 18 months, there was a tenfold increase in income.

Abstract:
This paper explains the profile that teachers in high school should have in the field of humanities and social sciences according to the aims expressed by the students of a public night high school in the West of Merida. Students were asked to complete a 48-item questionnaire designed on a Likert scale with a view to measuring twelve competences obtained from the work of prestigious researches and the official Mexican documents used as a referent. This questionnaire was validated by judges, had a pilot test and a Cronbach's alpha of 0.94. It is increasingly more necessary to create job profiles, including those for the teaching profession, with a view to establishing parameters for professional development. Those profiles should detail the dimensions which the job addresses and the descriptors which adequate teaching practice should include. In the education model by competences these profiles present the attitudes, abilities and knowledge that a teacher should have. These profiles also provide guidelines to undertake accurate teacher assessment. The results were analysed with the statistical software package SPSS v.21 and frequencies, percentages and comparison of means were obtained. The interpretation especially addressed students’ positive opinions regarding what teaching competence should be. The study found that all the competences were important, but not all the descriptors satisfied the students’ expectations. This study also shows a list with the most popular competences for teaching: academic background, assertive communication, leadership, evaluation and educational environment.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Sleep loss can cause various kinds of behavioral and psychological problems. It has been reported that sleep loss may even influence academic performance. To examine the relationship between nighttime sleep and academic performance, we conducted a questionnaire study targeting university students majoring in social sciences. Methods To recruit undergraduates for participation, we selected a few psychology-related classes at a university in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, and went to the classroom to ask the students to respond to a questionnaire that dealt with nighttime sleep and grade point average (GPA) as a measure of their academic performance. We approached 116 students, of whom 109 consented to participate and completed the questionnaire. The mean age of the final sample was 20.11 years old. Results The participants were divided into six groups: three groups based on grade and two based on sex. A two-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that students with worse grades reported significantly shorter sleep durations than those with intermediate and better grades. It is also suggested that the male students with better grades tended to report delayed sleep schedules, that is, a later bedtime and waking time, compared to the two other male groups, while the females with better grades did not. Conclusion The finding strongly suggests that sleep duration may affect the academic performance of undergraduates. Sufficient sleep may result in a better academic performance and might improve the quality of our lives. In this regard, the results may be consistent with a previous study targeted high school students (Wolfson & Carskadon, 1998). In sleep hygiene education, the students should be taught to have enough sleep in every night. In addition, the finding also suggets that the Japanese male students with better grades may have a tendency to stay up late to study more, while the female with better grades may not. The utilization of local wisdom in presentation of physics material of high school grade XI by physics education students is still not optimal. This indicates that the students who careless by sense of environmental. Physics learning resources in daily activities such as local wisdom needed to provide. The purpose of this study is to explore the application of physics concepts to local wisdom of West Sumatra culture as an effort to improve the character of environmental care. The type of research is qualitative research with survey method. Data collected by questionnaires, interviews, document analysis, field notes and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Analyzed techniques of data which be used qualitative data techniques with steps are data reduction, presentation, conclusion and verification as data analyzed techniques. Result of the research is physics concepts of Rumah Gadang. First, although the Rumah Gadang roof was made of palm fiber but it still survive from leakage problems and wind exposure. The functions of the roofing of the Rumah Gadang are: (1) to increase the speed of the rain falling into the roof, (2) minimize the momentum on the roof, (3) projecting the force of the wind in all directions so that the wind is not trapped on the roof of the Rumah Gadang, 4) made of adhesive between kitchen ash with a good palm fiber (deep layer of palm fiber ), and 5) water deposition on the bad side of palm fiber (outer layer of palm fiber) so that it will be rise to back the surface of the roof through the capillarity mechanism. Second, the wall with a hollow layer can reduce the heat from outside the walls during the day so the air in the room is not as hot as the outside and the heat that has flowing in the room will be trapped by the wall so that air is not too cold at the night. Third, old pole serves as a reference to determine the equalibrium of Rumah Gadang and the poles are made with a slope which opposite direction on two sides (left and right house). This can be create a stable of equalibrium Rumah Gadang. Fourth, a stone of fondation that has a diameter greater than the diameter of the milestone can serve to minimize the fictive forces generated by the soil due to the occurrence of the earthquake. Fifth, the staircase made with a certain slope provides a distinct mechanical advantage for the visitor where the where the produced work made becomes as easier. The conclusions of this research indicates this study provide one of the efforts to improve the character of environmental care in physics learning.

Abstract:
Inadequate sleep among adolescents is considered an epidemic in the United States. Late night bedtimes could be an important factor in academic performance and health with consequences continuing throughout adulthood. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between late night bedtimes, academic performance (grade point average [GPA]), and utilization of health care (school nurse visits) in a residential high school. The data were collected from archival records for one academic semester. The statistical analysis employed the nonparametric Pearson’s correlation coefficient ( r) with the standard level of significance (α = .05). Positive and inverse linear relationships were found between bedtime and school nurse visits ( p < .00001) and bedtime and GPA ( p = .007). The findings suggest students’ late night bedtimes may be related to increased school nurse visits and lower academic performance. Adolescent late night bedtimes may be an important consideration for academic success and maintaining health in residential high schools.

Abstract:
This article approaches, in the five regions of Brazil, the universalization of High School, initial training and work conditions of teachers. The discussion was carried out based on educational indicators available at the National Research of Household Sample and the School Census. The analysis makes explicit disparities among the regions regarding to the universalization of access, most claimed in North and Northwest regions. Appropriate training has more requirements in Northwest and Central West regions. Similarly, better work conditions are most required in Central west, North and South. At the same time, it points, in the five regions, a context far from of the National Education Plan (2014-2024). It suggests that social quality of High School only will be a reality with insurance of universalization to young people from 15 to 17 years old and with all the teachers socially valued. It also demonstrates dimensions silenced nowadays in the Law number 13.415/2017 and its bet on flexibility.

ObjectiveAdolescents’ sexual behaviours are associated with sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies. This study aimed to estimate the sexual intercourse and condom use rates at first and last sex among Taiwanese adolescents in grades 7–12.DesignA secondary data analysis of the Taiwan Global School-Based Student Health Survey’s 2012–2016 data. The survey was anonymous, cross-sectional and nationwide.SettingTaiwan high school students (grades 7–12).ParticipantsThe sample comprised 27 525 students from junior high schools (grades 7–9), and senior high schools, comprehensive schools, vocational high schools and night schools (grades 10–12).Main outcome measuresThe rate of ever having had sexual intercourse; the rates and factors of condom use at first and last sex.ResultsThe sexual intercourse rate in each school type (in ascending order) was junior high school (1.62%), senior high school (4.14%), comprehensive school (9.08%), vocational high school (14.03%) and night school (41.09%). Condom use rate decreased from 57.07% (95% CI=54.31% to 59.83%) at first sex to 25.72% (95% CI=23.34% to 28.10%) at last sex (p<0.0001). The condom use rate (in ascending order) was junior high school (first sex: 37.67%, last sex: 19.76%), night school (55.83%, 22.62%), vocational high school (61.13%, 25.78%), comprehensive school (62.83%, 28.61%) and senior high school (68.38%, 34.96%). Older age at sexual debut was associated with condom use at first and last sex, and having one sexual partner was associated with condom use at last sex, as revealed by logistic regression analysis.ConclusionsThis study highlights an urgent need to instil a proper understanding of protected sex while adolescents are still in their formative years. Despite the low sexual intercourse rate (4.95%), there is lower condom use at last sex than at first sex, which indicates that many sexually active adolescents are not practising protected sex, especially among junior high school students.

Abstract:
This study aims to determine the application of habituation and learning methods of reading the Qur'an to promote intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of class X students at Taruna Muhammadiyah Gunungpring Boarding School. The goal is to understand how this habituation and learning can trigger student motivation in deepening understanding of the Qur'an. The benefits of this research theoretically can contribute to the development of science by enriching existing concepts and theories, and practically can provide insight into experience for researchers and future researchers, as well as being a guide for the implementation of habituation policies for students in the spirit of learning to read and write the Qur'an. The method applied is descriptive qualitative analysis, in which students are accustomed to learning to read and understand the Qur'an through muroja'ah activities and deepening material at night. To support the implementation of the habituation policy, the method involves student involvement in routine activities, such as muroja'ah after Asr, Maghrib, and Fajr prayers, as well as the provision of material and practice of reciting the Qur'an by the dormitory staff at night. In addition, the memorization of the Qur'an is also made an integral part of the learning process to familiarize students with reading, and increase their intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

Abstract:
Being sleepy in class can have a vital impact on the academic performance of a student. Lack of sufficient and adequate sleep can be harmful and even deadly. It is a basic necessity of life and important part of learning. This study utilized descriptive and correlational design to examine 119 senior high Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) students who were selected through simple random sampling. Findings revealed that 88 percent of the students were sleep deprived and they usually sleep for lessthan 6 hours only. Two of the reasons of sleeping late were using of Facebook and Messenger account and playing mobile games. The third reason was making assignments and homework. The most prevalent classroom behaviours were: students were sleepy during class discussions and they slept in class during vacant periods and the third prevalent behavior was they felt tired during classes. Sixty-one percent of the students have a general average of 75-79 which is only fairly satisfactory and 29 percent have 80-84 grade which is only satisfactory in the K-12 grading system. There was a significant negative relationship (cc= -0.420 and p=0.000) between number of hours of night sleep and sleepiness classroom behavior. This suggested that the less number of hours of night sleep is correlated to high occurrence of sleepiness classroom behavior. There was a significant positive relationship (cc=0.627 and p=0.000) between number of hours of night sleep and academic per-formance. This suggested that the high number of hours of night sleep is associated to high academic performance. On the other hand, students with less sleep had low academic performance. There was a significant negative relationship (cc= -0.544 and p=0.000) between sleepiness classroom behavior and the academic performance. This implied that high occurrence of sleepiness classroom behavior is associated to low academic performance. The implications may serve as basis for policy makers, school administrators and teachers to educate students including the parents on the proper use of mobile phones and other gadgets. The parents need to set sleeping time or lights-off rules and regulate the use of mobile phones. Sleeping time or routine shall be imposed. School administrators and teachers need to craft a well-planned and well-designed policy on giving assignments and homework to attain high scholastic achievement.

Abstract:
Most seabirds are visual hunters and are thus strongly affected by light levels. Dependence on vision should be problematic for species wintering at high latitudes, as they face very low light levels for extended periods during the Polar night. We examined the foraging rhythms of male great cormorants ( Phalacrocorax carbo ) wintering north of the Polar circle in West Greenland, conducting the first year-round recordings of the diving activity in a seabird wintering at high latitudes. Dive depth data revealed that birds dived every day during the Arctic winter and did not adjust their foraging rhythms to varying day length. Therefore, a significant proportion of the dive bouts were conducted in the dark (less than 1 lux) during the Polar night. Our study underlines the stunning adaptability of great cormorants and raises questions about the capacity of diving birds to use non-visual cues to target fish.

Abstract:
A creature of state law, voter registration is a point of national contention and a subject that frequents partisan debate. Federal legislation—meant to unsew a patchwork quilt of discriminatory practices against voters—complicated the voter registration process. States have changed their voter registration laws in the wake of Supreme Court opinions and prolonged litigation. But an opportunity endures for states to take further accountability for their younger voting-age populations without more federal intervention. By amending their election codes to require that high school graduates choose whether to register to vote, states can act as legislative laboratories and court their prom night voters to guarantee the fundamental right to vote.

Abstract:
The present community service activities were held to provide peer counselor training for high school Students in West Jakarta. Results from our survey showed several problems such as high achievement demand from parents, disparity between peer groups, and verbal abuse from parents. Despite these problems, students prefer to share their problems with their peers to consulting their problems with the Guidance and Counseling (GC) teacher, subject teacher, or homeroom teacher. To address this problem, the solution offered was to prepare assistance for GC teachers by giving training to selected students so that they are able to help other students, that is as peer counselors. Students who were trained must pass a selection process to meet standard qualifications as peer counselors. The peer counselor training aimed to provide competency-based knowledge and skills as a counselor. The task of these peer counselors was to act as peer assistants who can accommodate stories and complaints from peers based on basic counselling skills. Peer counselors are expected to help reduce psychological tension experienced by peers in need. The implementation stages included the following: socializing the program, implementation of training with 14 sessions, practices and supervisions, and evaluation program. Through the training, the students were successfully introduced to simple theories and counseling skills to trainees. After 6 simulated exercises, each participant experienced better counseling skills. However, to keep improving their skills, it is necessary that the trainees be given a periodic training and a strong support from the school, especially from GC teachers.

Abstract:
The implementation of games in chemistry classes has provided an interesting and alternative teaching method and allows students to learn in a more entertaining way compared to traditional learning process. The game-based learning approach is divided into three approaches, namely game-based learning or educational games, gamification, and game-assisted learning. Many chemistry games have been constructed in recent years to review and strengthen various chemistry topics; therefore, it is expected that Chemistry teachers in high schools in Indonesia, especially in West Java province implement educational games in the learning process. For that reason, it is necessary to perceive an overview of the use of educational games in Chemistry learning in secondary schools in West Java province. Survey research was carried out using a random sampling technique. There were 99 chemistry teachers from 91 high schools spread across the province of West Java who voluntarily participated in the online survey. The result of the analysis obtained that 35% of chemistry teachers in the province of West Java have implemented gamification and learning using game assistance. On the contrary, game-based learning has never been implemented in Chemistry learning process in secondary schools in West Java province

She had been playing lacrosse at the attack wing and midfielder positions and experienced insidious pain after a game. She had no history of trauma to that shoulder during that game and had not experienced an injury in the past. Six days after the pain developed, she woke up one night with a sudden increase in the pain, which brought her to tears and caused slight difficulty with breathing. The pain was located anteriorly just lateral to the right sternoclavicular joint and posteriorly in the paraspinal muscles in the upper thoracic region. Physical examination suggested a first-rib stress fracture, which was subsequently confirmed by chest and shoulder radiographs.

The dropout rate in Indonesia has a higher percentage as education levels grow. The high school dropout rate in Indonesia is at 0.67%. West Java is the province with the highest high school dropout rate in the academic year 2017/2018. In the next academic year, the high school dropout rate in West Java decreased. The student who drop out of school was caused by various factors. This study examines important variables and classification performance that are generated by random forest. The number of dropout students is very small compared to the number of active students. The imbalance data is handled using SMOTE. Random forest with SMOTE is considered able to predict data classes better because it can increase sensitivity values and reduce errors in classifying dropout students as active students. Father's income, number of siblings, class, father's education level, and father's type of work are important variables that have a major influence in determining the active status of high school students in West Java.

Although other plants can be used for this purpose, the use of Sansevieria is interesting and offers certain advantages because it absorbs CO2 during the night. The project could also provide a simple tool for high school students to investigate the absorption and emission of CO2 from home or in laboratory. Extension of this project to investigate the effect of plant respiration on the environmental parameters, such as decreasing temperature and increasing humidity, is also possible.

Abstract:
A survey on sleep schedule, sleep health, school performance and school start times was conducted in 1,941 adolescents. A high level of early and circadian-disadvantaged sleep/wake schedules during weekdays was observed. Shorter sleep duration on weekdays was reported, especially in upper classmen. Complaints of inadequate sleep and sleepiness during weekdays, alarm clock use, and napping were prevalent. Night awakening and prolonged sleep onset were common and associated with poor school performance. Students with a sleep length of less than 7 hours on both weekdays and weekends exhibited poorer performance, while those who made up this sleep loss on weekends did not. The total number of poor sleep factors in an individual also correlated with poor school performance. Earlier school start times were associated with a perception of poor sleep quality, shorter sleep duration and more sleep health problems. We conclude that sleep inadequacies and sleep health problems were prevalent in this population, especially in those who started school earlier in the morning, and that these poor sleep factors were associated with school performance.
