Abstract:
Since it was declared as one of the crucial issues in the Sustainable Development Goals agenda by the United Nations, gender equality has entered every country including in the Acehnese family. As a province that implements Islamic law and rich in local wisdom, Aceh has its own perspective in responding to the issue of gender equality. Although in the past (in terms of religion and culture) Aceh recognized the existence of the same position between men and women in the family, in its implementation gender equality has not achieved completely. The cultural shift and understanding of Acehnese society towards gender, which is considered as an ideology from the West, has become one of the big walls in the realization of gender equality in the family. The culture of the society that stigmatizes men as weak people if they are involved in domestic affairs also plays a major role. In addition, the most influential thing is the absence of gender-based education both in families and social institutions in Acehnese society, therefore the generation that grows continues to develop with the same understanding as their predecessors which resulted in the discourse of gender equality in modern Aceh society being a mere delusion.

Abstract:
This article draws attention to the case of Aceh to analyse the mechanisms through which ideologically driven geographic imaginings obscured the role of place and class in colonial and anti-colonial violence in Indonesia. Its main perspective is the region's West Coast. In the course of the long and brutal Dutch-Acehnese war (1873–1942), the West Coast of Sumatra was transformed from a dynamic centre of trade, commerce, and religious renewal into a colonial frontier. Violent resistance persisted in this area as the Dutch involved themselves in and exacerbated local contestations for authority and resources. Colonial discourse worked to conceal these complexities, foregrounding an image of the West Coast as a remote, backwards, and inherently dangerous place, prone to a violent Muslim millenarianism.

Abstract:
This paper examines the interjection of ômma in Acehnese language using a natural semantic metalanguage approach. The study employed a qualitative method using oral, written, and artificial data sources. Twelve qualified informants from three study locations, i.e., Aceh Besar, West Aceh, and South Aceh provided their consent to participate in this study. Meanwhile, written data were sourced from Acehnese books and previous studies, and the artificial data were used as complementary to oral and written data. The data analysis is presented using a distributional approach. In addition, the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) theory was also applied. The results show that the interjection of ômma in the Acehnese language expressed three semantic aspects, i.e., emotive, volitive, and cognitive. The emotive aspect includes expressions of amazement, surprise, and anger. In addition, the meanings of the interjection of ômma are highly dependent on the text and the context of the sentence. A chuckle of amazement, pleasant facial expression, hand-clap, head-shake, or thumbs-up accompanies the interjection of ômma expressing amazement. The interjection of ômma that expresses anger is accompanied by a sour facial expression, such as frowns and lip-biting, as well as a high intonation voice. In expressing a feeling of surprise, the interjection of ômma is accompanied by a voice that indicates joy and a happy facial expression. Meanwhile, the interjection of ômma expressing volition is accompanied by limb movements, either using hands, mouth, or face. The interjection of ômma that expresses the cognitive aspect is followed by movements or pats on the forehead or legs.

Abstract:
Aceh is well known as the center of spreading Islam in South East Asia. West Aceh has contributed to present their best people in the history of the battle against colonialism when the heroic war in the past. Thus, Acehnese are considered a religious society. However, the research on the typology of significant Islamic buildings, such as mosques, has been very limited in this area. This study aims to determine the typology of mosques in West Aceh. This study was conducted based on observation data in West Aceh and a literature study. The number of twenty-five mosques is included in this study. The locations of mosques were in Meulaboh, the capital city of West Aceh, and in the rural area of West Aceh. The result shows that the typology of mosques in West Aceh has similarities with Masjid Raya Baiturrahman which stands in the capital city of Aceh. The similarities are found in the typology of the roof, door, window, column, and façade ornamentation. Meanwhile, the minaret did not have a significant influence on the typology of the mosques in West Aceh. There is still research to be done and data to be collected about other mosques in other areas in Aceh. Then, the date period of construction data should be added to give a comprehensive perspective of the influence.

Abstract:
This paper explores the Social Status Shift and Collapse of Uleebalang in Aceh of 1900-1946. The conflict between ulama and ulebalang increasingly entered a critical phase, especially after news of Japan's defeat. This research is conducted by using qualitative research design. The results shows that the surrender of the uleebalang did not dampen the ulama's determination to continue to expel the Dutch from the land of Aceh in various regions, both in Aceh City, Pidie, North Aceh, West Aceh, Central Aceh and Southeast Aceh fall on the battlefield. The Aceh War had a great impact on the people of Aceh, especially the scholars. The direct impact of the Aceh war can be seen from the division of ulama into three groups, there are 1) The ulama who was the Kadli in the government of the uleebalang who recognized Dutch sovereignty; 2) The ulama who only give religious lessons in dayah-dayah; and 3) The ulama who still continued the struggle against the Dutch. In addition, the fundamental impact is the strengthening of the position of ulama in Acehnese society. Another impact is the widening of the distance between the ulama and the uleebalang. The Dutch tried to break the Acehnese community through politics.

Abstract:
In Acehnese society, there is a tradition called hareuta peunulang, which is the practice of giving a number of assets to married girls in preparation for starting a new life with her husband. This practice is still often carried out until now, especially by people in the Pidie Regency, Aceh Besar District and parts of the West Aceh region. This practice seems to be gender-biased, which is more privileging girls and discriminating boys. This article wants to criticize the practice of hareuta peunulang grants using the theory of grants in Islamic law, with the aim of finding a contradiction between the two and offering several legal formulas to reconstruct these traditional institutions so that they are in line with the ideals of Islamic law.

Abstract:
Since independence Indonesia’s military has played an active role in defending the territorial integrity of Indonesia. For example, the military has been used to put down rebellions in various regions, such as Darul Islam in West Java in 1948, the Acehnese rebellion that was led by Daud Beurueh in 1950, Pemerintah Revolusioner Republik Indonesia (PRRI), the Revolutionary Government of the Indonesian Republic) in West Sumatra in 1958, and Piagam Perjuangan Semesta Alam (Permesta) Charter of Universal Struggle in North Sulawesi in 1958. Disagreements with central government policies were the cause of these rebellions since they were intended to change the central government, not to achieve separatism. In addition, in 1961 a military operation was used to support the claim of Indonesia to West Irian (now Papua). By carrying out a military operation and negotiating with those giving support from the United States, in 1969 Indonesia succeeded in its goal of claiming Papua as a part of Indonesia. The success in pulling Papua into Indonesia’s territory did not directly stop the military operation there because the military had to maintain order in the region to frustrate the Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM), Free Papuan Organisation, separatist movement that began in 1964 and continues to the present day

This study discusses the Sammāniyya Sufi Order’s creativity in designing art and employing it as a means of da‘wah which emphasizes cultural values and wisdom in a pluralistic society. The informants of this study are the murshid (the Sufi master), caliph, and the adherents of the Sammāniyya Order. The data has been collected from observation, in-depth interviews, focused group discussion, and documentation. This study uses domain analysis and taxonomy to analyze data. The study reveals that the Sammāniyya leaders’ creativity in their da‘wah carried on to the present days has been manifested in the Acehnese saman dance which is related to the practice of the Sammāniyya Order established by Shaykh Muhammad Saman. Debus (the ancient martial art from Banten) and silek kumango (the martial art found in West Sumatera) are also rooted from his practice. Therefore, the arts developed by the shaykh are clear evidence that local wisdom and Islamic Sharia do not have to be contradictory to each other. The arts have become not only an entertainment but also a medium of conveying Islamic messages to the public.

Abstract:
This study examines the polarization of profit sharing in paddy cultivation in the tradition of the people of Aceh as an effort to alleviate poverty. This study, as the empirical or juridical sociological legal research, examines the behavior of law or operation of law in society. The study uses fiqh muamalah approach and obtains data through interviews and literature study. This study concludes that the pattern of profit sharing on the cultivation of paddy fields is categorized into a muzāra’ah aqd, which has rules specified in fiqh muamalah and promotes mutual assistance. However, traditionally, the people of West Aceh, Pidie, and Aceh Jaya utilizing leasing in managing paddy fields tend not to fully operate in accordance with the muzāra’ah aqd. This is due to the operational costs needed for the management of the fields have to be provided by the tenant farmers without financial contributions from the landowners at all. This method can easily allow the landowners to exploit the labor of tenant farmers as the tenants do not have other options aside from cultivating the land. As a result, tenant farmers find it difficult to get out of the shackles of poverty. Therefore, it takes effort to help the farmers out of poverty. It is expected that the government plays a role in the forms of the provision of aids such as seeds, fertilizers, medicines, harvesting machines, and rice threshers, with the goal to reduce expenditure costs of management and thus, the farming revenue will increase and farmers’ well-being will be achieved.

In addition of being dubbed as the city of "Serambi Mekah", Aceh is also famous as the city of "Thousand Coffee Shops". One of coffee dish that attracts consumers' is khop coffee (read: kopi khop) because it is served with a glass dish upside down. The khop coffee, a typical coffee drink from Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency, is served by reversing the glass that has been filled with coarse coffee powder on top of the pan. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to conduct a special study on the analysis of unique taste-determining compounds in khop coffee to elevate the local wisdom of the Acehnese to the scientific region. The aim of this study was to determine the concentration of caffeine compounds of khop coffee due to the modification of coffee powder diameter by using the thin layer chromatography (TLC) method and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. This study used four types of samples with diameter variations coffee, namely original, fine, medium, and coarse. The four samples were extracted with boiling hot water according to the same conditions when the bartender served it (90 °C) followed by liquid-liquid extraction using chloroform solvent. Dry extract was analyzed by using TLC followed by a UV-Vis spectrometer. The results showed that the concentrations of original, fine, medium, and coarse coffee were respectively 57.85%; 17.61%; 1.29%; and 0.83%.

Abstract:
Aceh, which is dominated by the Aceh Rayeuk tribe, has a treasure of various ethnicities and tribes such as the Aceh Tribe, Tamiang Tribe, Gayo Tribe, Alas Tribe, Kluet Tribe, Julu Tribe, Pakpak Tribe and Aneuk Jamee Tribe. The various ethnic groups above show that Aceh is a province rich in culture and various authentic local wisdoms. The Aneuk Jamee tribe is an acculturation of the Acehnese and Minangkabau tribes, both of which seem to have merged into one individual to produce a new ethnicity. This ethnicity later developed in South Aceh and influenced various aspects of culture and the family system in it. This research is classified as field research with a qualitative approach. The methodology used is phenomenology which is supported by historical literacy in the South Aceh region where the Aneuk Jamee ethnicity is the most dominant. Informants in this study consisted of primary and secondary sources, the primary sources were individuals or native Aneuk Jamee selected by random sampling. The secondary sources are informants who are not native to Aneuk Jamee but have insight and knowledge regarding the history and customs of Aneuk Jamee. The results of the study concluded that the Aneuk Jamee community has similarities with the system in the Minangkabau community in West Sumatra, namely adopting a hereditary system from the mother's side or commonly referred to as Matrilineal. Even though there has been Islamization in Aceh where the father is a descendant of the lineage, the matrilineal system is still evident in kinship (household) matters. All matters that will be carried out in a household must be discussed in advance with the ninik mamak (mother's brother). Prior to the consultation with the ninik mamak, news about the event should not be heard by the public.

Abstract:
Kue Karah is a traditional cake that has been part of the cultural richness of the Acehnese people for a long time. In West Aceh district, the center of Kue Karah production is in Meureubo District, especially in Langung Village. The problem of partners in making Kue Karah is the process of making karah cakes in the traditional way. In the manufacturing process workers experience the risk of fatigue, and musculoskeletal disorders caused by exposure to heat production equipment. In addition, the quality of products produced is not standardized and organizational and financial management is still family based. For this reason, it is necessary to apply the right technology to overcome this weakness. This community service program is a community partnership program between the university and UMKM makers Kue Karah. This program not only offers problem solving regarding the use of Kue Karah makers, but also technology transfer in the form of Kue Karah makers to improve the quality of Kue Karah products and increase production volumes. In addition, this service program also provides training and assistance in organizational and financial management. Thus this program has a comprehensive, meaningful, complete and sustainable value.

Abstract:
Mosque is place of worship as well as religious symbols that have religious and social aspects. The aspects can be used as places of worship, while social aspects are referred to as places of community activity, places of learning, cultural development, art of building, even in times of war for Acehnese fighters. But in the current era of globalization, mosques are no longer a place of worship, but also a tourist destination for both Muslims and non-Muslims. There are three the main halal tourism destinations Indonesia, they are West Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara and Aceh Province . The Baiturrahman Mosque in Banda Aceh is one of them, since 2015 major improvements have been made enough to restore the face of the historic mosque. This study is a case study that tries to explore the in-depth perspective of several informants regarding sustainable tourism, focusing on mosques as halal tourism attractions. Data collection techniques used are observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Abstract:
The article is a study in the background with observations of good citizen journalism, by preaching information that can provide positive value for the development of publications. Not a stove that always heats the situation and situation. "Citizen journalism" is arguably the most recent finding in the current journalistic domain. A term where people intervene to share information is like a reporter. Various sources view differently about who actually started this trend. There are sources who say citizen journalism was pioneered by the tsunami of 26 December 2004 in Aceh. At that time, Acehnese people through a personal documentation video recorded water scenes that devastated Aceh and its surroundings. These videos play an important role in the supply of news for mainstream / mainstream media. There is another source who mentions that one of the private television sets opened video shipments of citizens who reported the incident in their respective homes through their own citizen journalism platform. Whatever claims to who initiates "Citizen Journalism", mainstream media seems to be seriously working on this fairly new market share. All may be one view that the future of the journalistic world is in "Citizen Journalism". A distinctive feature of citizen journalism lies in the framing of the news. Framing is a term in the world of journalism about how a media frame / construct / process the reality that occurs in society into a story, which is certainly in line with the tendency of the media concerned. In the case of citizen journalism which positions itself as a freestanding reporter, it is not bound by any media institution. From there, a personal framing is formed, which is nothing but the framing of the citizen itself which incidentally tends to construct reality in the field without any inclination. That is to say, something that is not reduced or exaggerated for certain purposes. The earthquake in Meulaboh was reported not only to have caused a tsunami in the western region of Aceh, but also struck the island of Sabang. At that time, the Satlak for Disaster Management and Refugee (PBP) Region III of West Aceh, until March 13, 2005 reported that the death toll reached 12,873 people, 2,403 people missing and 73,915 people displaced.
