Abstract:
Several systems integration proposals have been suggested over the years. However these proposals have mainly focused on data integration, not allowing users to take advantage of services offered by Web portals. Most of the mentioned proposals only provide a set of design principles to build integrated systems and lack in suggesting a systematic way of how to develop systems based on the integration architecture they propose. In previous work we have developed PISA (Web Portal Integration Architecture)—a Web portal integration architecture for data and services—and MIDAS-S, a methodological approach for the development of integrated Web portals, built according to PISA. This work shows, by means of a case study, how both proposals fit together integrating Web portals.

Abstract:
The Web is changing the way organizations are conducting their business. Businesses are rushing to provide modular applications, called Web services, that can be programmatically accessed through the Web. Despite the tremendous developments achieved so far, one of the most important, yet untapped potential, is the use of Web services as facilitators for inter-organizational cooperation. This promising concept, known as Web service composition, is gaining momentum as the potential silver bullet for the envisioned Semantic Web. The development of such integrated services has so far been ad hoc, time-consuming, and requires extensive low-level programming efforts. In this paper, we present WebBIS (Web Base of Internet-accessible Services), a generic framework for composing and managing Web services. We combine the object-oriented and active rules paradigms for such a task. We also provide a ontology-based framework for organizing the Web service space. We finally propose a peer-to-peer mechanism for reporting, propagating, and reacting to changes in Web services.

Abstract:
Purpose – Attracted by tremendous market opportunities of mobile business, many web services providers have started to expand their web services from traditional PC-based environment into the mobile-based environment. However, success in the web services cannot guarantee the success in the mobile services. The purpose of this paper is to identify factors that influence consumer evaluation and use of mobile shopping services in a web-mobile service extension context. Design/methodology/approach – Based on categorization theory, this paper focusses on the role of integration and consistency between web and mobile services. A research model was created and empirically tested on data collected from 298 mobile shopping users in China. Findings – The structural equation modeling analysis indicates that evaluation of source (web service quality) positively affect evaluation of target (perceived mobile service quality and flow in mobile services). The study also found that the relationships between source and target (perceived integration and perceived consistency) play an important role in determining evaluation of the target, which in turn shapes intention to use mobile services. Research limitations/implications – The survey is based on mobile shopping consumers. Caution is required in any effort to generalize the findings to other research contexts. Factors influencing a consumer's extension or adoption decisions in regard to different mobile services may not be the same, or the degree of influence may differ. Continued studies can test and compare our findings in different mobile services contexts. Practical implications – The results of the findings provide specific methods for managing the process of web-mobile service extension. The results also indicate the importance of perceived consistency in shaping consumers’ evaluation of the extended mobile services in practical environments. Originality/value – The present study extends the categorization theory to a multi-channel context and examines mobile services adoption from a cross-environment perspective. It considers evaluation of source, evaluation of target, and the relationships between source and target, which enriches the innovation adoption literature by providing a holistic insight into the evaluation and use of mobile services.

Abstract:
Sharing and integrating Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System/Science (GIS) models are critical for developing practical application systems. Facilitating model sharing and model integration is a problem for model publishers and model users, respectively. To address this problem, a framework based on a Web service for sharing and integrating RS and GIS models is proposed in this paper. The fundamental idea of the framework is to publish heterogeneous RS and GIS models into standard Web services for sharing and interoperation and then to integrate the RS and GIS models using Web services. For the former, a “black box” and a visual method are employed to facilitate the publishing of the models as Web services. For the latter, model integration based on the geospatial workflow and semantic supported marching method is introduced. Under this framework, model sharing and integration is applied for developing the Pearl River Delta water environment monitoring system. The results show that the framework can facilitate model sharing and model integration for model publishers and model users.

Abstract:
Web services utilizations in Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) have been well established and standardized by Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). Similar web services for 3D SDI are also being established in recent years, with extended capabilities to handle 3D spatial data. The increasing popularity of using <i>City Geographic Markup Language</i> (CityGML) for 3D city modelling applications leads to the needs for large spatial data handling for data delivery. This paper revisits the available web services in OGC Web Services (OWS), and propose the background concepts and requirements for encoding spatial data via Web Encoding Service (WES). Furthermore, the paper discusses the data flow of the encoder within web service, e.g. possible integration with Web Processing Service (WPS) or Web 3D Services (W3DS). The integration with available web service could be extended to other available web services for efficient handling of spatial data, especially 3D spatial data.

Web service based information integration scenario can achieve the functional integration of heterogeneous platforms. However, the information sharing also requires the integration of Web services data. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of XML, this paper studies the web service data quadratic processing of heterogeneous platform. It realizes the data integration based on the functional integration of heterogeneous platforms. All the data of web services are defined and described by XML Schema. So this study uses XML data binding technology to achieve the conversion of XML Schema data to relational database content objects. Then XML mapping technology is adapted to achieve the mapping of the database content object on the local specific database table. Local system can achieve the quadratic web service data processing based on the database table’s normal operation. Some applications are described to validate.

Abstract:
This paper has pointed out the need for new technologies for integrating embedded devices in heterogeneous distributed networks, and outlines the perspectives opened by applying service-oriented paradigm for realizing interaction with embedded devices. As a foundation for interaction with embedded devices, XML and Web services have been used. Strong integration power of XML and Web services make presented framework appropriate for unique approach to all resources of embedded device regardless of applied technology. Developed Web services based middleware, provides application designers with a high level of semantic abstraction, hiding the complexity of the applied technologies. This makes presented framework suitable for use in many domains, independent of embedded devices physical realization or network characteristics. Two ways to achieve such integration have been presented in this paper: device level for modern embedded devices, and using service oriented gateway for "legacy" embedded systems. .

Abstract:
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is widely used, which has fueled the rapid growth of Web services and the deployment of tremendous Web services over the last decades. It becomes challenging but crucial to find the proper Web services because of the increasing amount of Web services. However, it proves unfeasible to inspect all the Web services to check their quality values since it will consume a lot of resources. Thus, developing effective and efficient approaches for predicting the quality values of Web services has become an important research issue. In this paper, we propose UIQPCA, a novel approach for hybrid User and Item-based Quality Prediction with Covering Algorithm. UIQPCA integrates information of both users and Web services on the basis of users’ ideas on the quality of coinvoked Web services. After the integration, users and Web services which are similar to the target user and the target Web service are selected. Then, considering the result of integration, UIQPCA makes predictions on how a target user will appraise a target Web service. Broad experiments on WS-Dream, a web service dataset which is widely used in real world, are conducted to evaluate the reliability of UIQPCA. According to the results of experiment, UIQPCA is far better than former approaches, including item-based, user-based, hybrid, and cluster-based approaches.

Abstract:
The development of new services by composition of existing ones has gained considerable momentum as a means of integrating heterogeneous applications and realizing business collaborations. More and more Web services with similar function attributes but different QoS are available. The performance of the composed service is determined by the involved Web services. Therefore, QoS properties are crucial for selecting the Web services to take part in the composition, which can identify the best candidate Web services from a set of functionally-equivalent services. Web service composition enables seamless and dynamic integration of business applications on the web. Due to the inherent autonomy and heterogeneity of component Web services, it is difficult to predict the behavior of the overall composite service. Conformance checking identifies failure and conflict of execution of composite Web service that ensures reliable execution. In this paper we use skyline computation to select services for composition efficiently, reducing the number of candidate services to be considered. Then a novel color Petri net model of Web service composition is presented that combines QoS-based optimal service selection and consistence verification. In the model we define aggregation functions, and use a Multiple Attribute Decision Making approach for the utility function to achieve optimal services selection of QoS properties. We also propose a consistence verification approach to identify potential logical inconsistence of the semantic Web service process before the deployment. Proofs are also presented. We evaluate our approach experimentally using both real and synthetically generated datasets.

Abstract:
This paper introduces SDWS (Semantic Description of Web Services), a Web tool which generates semantic descriptions from collections of Web services. The fundamental approach of SDWS consists of the integration of a set of ontological models for the representation of different Web service description languages and models. The main contributions of this proposal are (i) a general ontological model for the representation of Web services, (ii) a set of language-specific ontological models for the representation of different Web service descriptions implementations, and (iii) a set of software modules that automatically parse Web service descriptions and produce their respective ontological representation. The design of the generic service model incorporates the common elements that all service descriptions share: a service name, a set of operations, and input and output parameters; together with other important elements that semantic models define: preconditions and effects. Experimental results show that the automatic generation of semantic descriptions from public Web services is feasible and represents an important step towards the integration of a general semantic service registry.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a framework for integrating construction supply chain in order to resolve the data heterogeneity and data sharing problems in the construction industry. Design/methodology/approach – Standardized web service technology is used in the proposed framework for data specification, transfer, and integration. Open standard SAWSDL is used to annotate web service descriptions with pointers to concepts defined in ontologies. NoSQL database Cassandra is used for distributed data storage among construction supply chain stakeholders. Findings – Ontology can be used to support heterogeneous data transfer and integration through web services. Distributed data storage facilitates data sharing and enhances data control. Practical implications – This paper presents examples of two ontologies for expressing construction supply chain information – ontology for material and ontology for purchase order. An example scenario is presented to demonstrate the proposed web service framework for material procurement process involving three parties, namely, project manager, contractor, and material supplier. Originality/value – The use of web services is not new to construction supply chains (CSCs). However, it still faces problems in channelizing information along CSCs due to data heterogeneity. Trust issue is also a barrier to information sharing for integrating supply chains in a centralized collaboration system. In this paper, the authors present a web service framework, which facilitates storage and sharing of information on a distributed manner mediated through ontology-based web services. Security is enhanced with access control. A data model for the distributed databases is also presented for data storage and retrieval.

The challenges being semantic enablement for Spatial Data Infrastructures, and connecting the interfaces of SDI with interfaces of Sensor Web. The proposed research plan is to Identify sensor data sources, Setup an open source SDI, Match the APIs and functions between Sensor Web and SDI, and Case studies like hazard applications, urban applications etc. We take up co-operative development of SDI best practices to enable a new realm of a location enabled and semantically enriched World Wide Web - the "Geospatial Web" or "Geosemantic Web" by setting up one to one correspondence between WMS, WFS, WCS, Metadata and 'Sensor Observation Service' (SOS); 'Sensor Planning Service' (SPS); 'Sensor Alert Service' (SAS); a service that facilitates asynchronous message interchange between users and services, and between two OGC-SWE services, called the 'Web Notification Service' (WNS). Multi-usability studies to validate integration has to be undertaken as future research.

Abstract:
Within the numerous and heterogeneous web services offered through different sources, automatic web services composition is the most convenient method for building complex business processes that permit invocation of multiple existing atomic services. The current solutions in functional web services composition lack autonomous queries of semantic matches within the parameters of web services, which are necessary in the composition of large-scale related services. In this paper, we propose a graph-based Semantic Web Services composition system consisting of two subsystems: management time and run time. The management-time subsystem is responsible for dependency graph preparation in which a dependency graph of related services is generated automatically according to the proposed semantic matchmaking rules. The run-time subsystem is responsible for discovering the potential web services and nonredundant web services composition of a user’s query using a graph-based searching algorithm. The proposed approach was applied to healthcare data integration in different health organizations and was evaluated according to two aspects: execution time measurement and correctness measurement.

Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) enable dynamic integration of Web Services (WS) to accomplish a user's need. As such, they are sensitive to user errors. This article presents a framework for mitigating the risks of user errors due to changes in the service delivery context. The underlying methodology incorporates usability in the design, testing, deployment and operation of dynamic collaborative WS, so that the error-prone elements of the User Interface (UI) are identified and eliminated. The methodology incorporates Statistical Process Control (SPC) of Web Service Indices (WSI), obtained by a Decision Support system for User Interface Design (DSUID), in which the users are elements of the control loop.

Abstract:
As the Web gradually evolves into the semantic web, the World Wide Web consortium (W3C) recommends that web ontology language (OWL) be used to encode semantic information content over the Web. Semantic web is an essential infrastructure to enhance Web to obtain better integration of information and intelligent use of web resources. Moreover, a web service is annotated by web ontology language for service (OWL-S) to form a semantic web service that, however, is a static description. The OWL-S based semantic web services thus are reactively invoked by users. How to dynamically coordinate, composite, or discover the services is an important issue.

<p>A WS provides the communication between heterogeneous systems. While performing this operation, we need to focus on QoS of consumer, provider and registry directory. There will be some parameters like WS selection, prediction and rank these are parameters need to consider while QoS implementation in web services. While performing integration in web services we need to focus on QoS requirements regarding server and network performance. Performance of WS is related to locations i.e the network distance and the Internet connections between consumer and provider. There will be more QoS approach which works on consumers collected QoS data, based on this data system can predict the QoS of WS. Throughput and response time are the QoS of WS. In this paper, we have proposed parallel XML parser, by which we can parse UDDI, WSDL and SOAP XML files parallel by which it will improve the response time and throughput of WS.</p>

Abstract:
Web mining is the application of data mining techniques to discover patterns from the Web. Web services defines set of standards like WSDL(Web Service Description Language), SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol) and UDDI(Universal Description Discovery and Integration) to support service description, discovery and invocation in a uniform interchangeable format between heterogeneous applications. Due to huge number of Web services and short content of WSDL description, the identification of correct Web services becomes a time consuming process and retrieves a vast amount of irrelevant Web services. This emerges the need for the efficient Web service mining framework for Web service discovery. Discovery involves matching, assessment and selection. Various complex relationships may provide incompatibility in delivering and identifying efficient Web services. As a result the web service requester did not attain the exact useful services. A research has emerged to develop method to improve the accuracy of Web service discovery to match the best services. In the discovery of Web services there are two approaches are available namely Semantic based approach and Syntactic based approach. Semantic based approach gives high accuracy than Syntactic approach but it takes high processing time. Syntactic based approach has high flexibility. Thus, this paper presents a survey of semantic based and syntactic based approaches of Web service discovery system and it proposed a novel approach which has better accuracy and good flexibility than existing one. Finally, it compares the existing approaches in web service discovery.
