Gomes, Daniel. "Web Modelling for Web Warehouse Design." Doctoral thesis, Department of Informatics, University of Lisbon, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10451/14294.

Full text
Abstract:
Users require applications to help them obtaining knowledge from the web. However, the specific characteristics of web data make it difficult to create these applications. One possible solution to facilitate this task is to extract information from the web, transform and load it to a Web Warehouse, which provides uniform access methods for automatic processing of the data. Web Warehousing is conceptually similar to Data Warehousing approaches used to integrate relational information from databases. However, the structure of the web is very dynamic and cannot be controlled by the Warehouse designers. Web models frequently do not reflect the current state of the web. Thus, Web Warehouses must be redesigned at a late stage of development. These changes have high costs and may jeopardize entire projects. This thesis addresses the problem of modelling the web and its influence in the design of Web Warehouses. A model of a web portion was derived and based on it, a Web Warehouse prototype was designed. The prototype was validated in several real-usage scenarios. The obtained results show that web modelling is a fundamental step of the web data integration process

Abstract:
Purpose – Web is no longer solely about functionality and information as it used to be. Nowadays the aesthetic aspects, including creativity, could be considered just as important. However, web designers still need to fulfil the needs of clients and users in the design process which causes various design constraints. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how web designers’ creativity is affected by various design constraints. This is explored by one main research question and a sub-question: 1.) How is web designers’ creativity affected by design constraints?; 1.1) What could cause web designers to break web design guidelines? Method – This research applied an inductive, qualitative approach with an exploratory view. In order to find answers for the research questions, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 8 participants from the field of web design. The data gathered was later analysed and evaluated through thematic analysis Conclusions – The findings of this study suggest that while there are some positive effects, web designers’ creativity is mostly negatively affected by design constraints. Furthermore, it seems web designers break web design guidelines due to finding them irrelevant and/or to get a more creative outcome as well as breaking them unintentionally. Delimitations – This study only covers how web designers reason regards the research questions and does not include the perspective of web developers. Moreover, this thesis focuses solely on website design and does not involve design for mobile applications.

Abstract:
The ability to target consumer segments and achieve a match between the product or promotional instrument and the consumer self-concept is stressed in the marketing literature. The online quality of a website has been said to have a positive impact on intention to use a website and perform a search, with preference for a website linked to perceptions of its credibility. Website preferences cam also encourage or discourage consumers’ purchasing intentions and the perceived visual attractiveness of a website is said to have a greater impact on e-loyalty and consumer retention than traditional attributes such as product selection and price. The important impact of preferences necessitates an understanding of the factors in a website that can appeal or not to people. Unfortunately, until as recently as 2004, studies investigating website aesthetics were anchored in the universalist paradigm which assumed that reactions would be universally held rather than differentiated according to demographic variables. A Canadian study in 2005 documented differences in reaction by gender but this study was inadequate in using a single commercial stimulus which had not been selected on any particular basis. Prior to this, research on web aesthetics was rooted in the universalist aesthetic in assuming that a single set of factors would suit all tastes. The overview describes the work by the author to ascertain the extent to which website productions differ by segmentation variables and the extent to which preferences can also be segmented. The author’s work has isolated the impact of segmentation variables (gender, personality and nationality) on website productions and of gender on website preferences and the overview focuses on gender since the impact of this variable has been explored in relation to productions and preferences.

Abstract:
Responsive Web Design (RWD) has quickly moved from a concept to one of the biggest trends within WebDevelopment. Today it is close to implied that new Websites should use the technique RWD. Even so the techniquedo not cover all problems the developers are facing today when it comes to the flora of mobile devices. Within this thesis we are digging deeper into the technique, both in practice and theory, in order to make conclusionson its advantages and disadvantages. This we fulfilled by creating both an application platform and a first application(to handle vacation requests) for the company Sigma AB, there one of basic requirements were that everythingdeveloped could be used anywhere. From our results we are giving recommendations for when you should use RWD and when you should considerother techniques like Native- or HTML5 applications.

Abstract:
Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Architecture, 1999.
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 66-67).
This thesis explores the collaborative design process facing the challenge of the new era of information technology. Architecture design is often a tremendous collaboration process participated by multi-professions. Successful communication of requirement and intent are critical factors that could determine the overall success of the project both in concept and detailed design. In the information technology revolution, communication becomes the center of this new movement. We now possess much more powerful communication tools and methods than ever before. Computer is not just about computation anymore. It is about communication and interaction. Many CAD software packages have appeared to be very helpful in architecture drafting, documentation and even representation. However, we demand more in design thinking, in idea sharing, and in collaboration. Thus, it is natural to bring up the issue of effective communication within the context of architecture design process. This thesis anticipates the emergence of virtual reality modeling language (VRML) as an economical alternative not just to architectural presentation as many have already demonstrated, but also as an effective tool in architectural design process to help designers express their own idea, and understand other's as well. As a major practice of this thesis project, I will describe a prototype system Virtual Block that I have built to illustrate the possibility to allow designers interact with each other mediated by computer network easily and efficiently.

This thesis describes the design and implementation of CopyStyler, a tool to enable novice web users to style their own web pages by emulating the style of existing pages on the Web. The tool is implemented as a browser extension on Firefox, created using Chickenfoot. The tool lays the user's page and the page they wish to emulate side by side, and the user uses a custom selection process to define which page styles he would like to copy and which page elements he would like to change. The tool was evaluated on a variety of web pages and structures, as well as with a variety of users. This thesis also proposes additions to CopyStyler that could be created to enhance its ability in other areas of style copying.

This work was motivated by my interest in combining issues concerning planning principles applied to graphic - visual products (printed) and, especially , the chart - virtual products (Internet). The main issue was to start by understanding the projective bases of these media , the world of virtual sites or web sites . Faced with so many projective factors ( eg . , Aesthetic, ergonomic, technological ) to be considered in a good graphic - virtual product , certainly , it appears that some methodological knowledge is needed to be set up so much information on a single type product service . For this it was necessary to use a qualitative research approach with in- Tuito to describe, understand and explain the phenomena involved in such design practice , in order to produce sufficient and necessary to the foundation of the work knowledge, which was directed by descriptive and exploratory research , supported mainly by the use of literature and the field study , which respectively aim to recog - lher information or prior knowledge about the problem and understand the prag - matic form the object of study from the viewpoint the observer . This research sought to show that even with so many books already released on " interface design for the web" , the apparent ease with which you can design a product to WWW allows few understand web design as one of the specialties of Design, whose practice project , however, is essentially founded on the teachings of industrial Design . In short , this work is intended for all those who need to create graphical interfaces for web and not having a more intimate relationship with the design , they are advertising , computer engineers , design students at the academy freshmen , self-taught , etc. . whose premise rests on knowing and understanding the conceptual basis of the design of interfaces for web , whose practice is primarily founded on the teachings of Industrial Design.

Chen, Ming-Che. "Successful Web Design Factors in Commercial Web Sites: A Case Study." NSUWorks, 1998. http://nsuworks.nova.edu/gscis_etd/450.

Abstract:
The online software dealer store project of the Electronic Software Dealer (ESD) had a problem of low sales volume, and the problem was attributed to several design problems. Literature indicated that web page design might affect the performance of a commercial web site; however, how the design factors influenced the success of the web site was unknown. To bridge this knowledge gap, a case study research method was used with a methodology that adopted the techniques of Helmstetter (1997), the web guidelines of Dellino (1996), Heller and Rivers (1996), and the Object-Action Model (OAl) of Shneiderman (1997) to analyze the research problem. In order to achieve the objectives, the researcher also analyzed the business models and design success-factors of Dow Jones & Company's Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition (WSJIE) site. In addition to the analysis, the researcher reviewed the literature related to commercial web site projects, interviewed the programmer involved in the ESD project, evaluated the design of ESD's online software store, and designed a prototype for the suggested solution. Results showed that the traditional system development life cycle (SDLC) still plays an important role in commercial web projects, and emphasis on planning, analysis, and the maintenance stages safeguards a more successful implementation of the project. Additionally, a design focusing on business models, marketing niches, and users ensures repeat visits and secures a more financial success to the commercial web site. This study focused on the design success-factors of commercial web sites, and did not cover issues of security and performance of the Web server.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the role of cultural differences in the design and usability of web sites. Specific factors that affect localisation and internationalisation of web sites and user preferences are studied. The overarching research question is: Are there differences in usability of web sites for users from different cultures? There are three areas of interest in this research: (i) Human Computer Interaction (HCI), (ii) Culture, and (iii) Localisation/Internationalisation. HCI focuses on the cultural factors affecting the usability of web sites. Culture is discussed in the context of HCI. Geographically disparate people use the Internet through web browsers. They may come from different cultural backgrounds and are likely to have different perceptions due to their cultural influences, which may influence their preferences for aspects of web interfaces. Challenges and opportunities regarding localisation and internationalisation of web sites are also examined. The methodology for this research facilitates the study of the impacts of culture on HCI in the context of the design of web sites and usability, specifically in terms of localisation and internationalisation. An explorative pilot study of the materials, procedures and analysis techniques was undertaken. Due to the small number of participants in the pilot study, only limited statistical analyses are provided. In the main study, 301 participants were divided into three almost equal groups, based on their preferred language (Australian English; Mandarin; International [primarily American] English). Each group responded to two of three virtual restaurant web site versions constructed for the experiment: (i) a localised version for Australian English speakers, (ii) a localised version for Mandarin speakers, and (iii) an internationalised version for speakers of other languages. Detailed statistical analyses of the quantitative data were compared with results from qualitative analyses of participants’ comments on experimental web site versions. The results demonstrate that a web site that uses an International version of web design, text and web interface elements is more usable to International group participants. Participants who chose Australian English or Mandarin as their Preferred Language did not display significant preference for localised versions of the web site. The participants, being experienced and heavy users of the web, were perhaps expecting to use International English, since it has traditionally been the dominant web language.

Abstract:
As the use of mobile devices is increasing and the use of laptops and computers is decreasing it is becoming more important to design for better web usability across platforms. The established design principles for web design provide guidelines when designing and testing web usability. The principles, however, are not commonly used to evaluate and test the usability of mobile websites. This study seeks to examine how the usability of mobile and desktop websites is affected based on the adaption of established web design principles. The study is built upon an analytical framework where common keywords have been selected from a selection of established web design principles. This study takes on a qualitative approach with experimental features, using a heuristic evaluation, a usability study and an eye-tracking experiment. The study indicates that there is a connection between low adaption of certain keywords of web design principles and the usability of mobile and desktop websites, contributing to a deeper understanding of how adaption of design principles affect web usability across platforms.

Abstract:
The recent increase of smart device usability has had a profound impact on information availability and distribution. The flexibility and enhanced hardware features of these devices has amplified their capabilities. The result of their progression has produced a wide adaptation rate and thus can be found in several areas, such as government, education and financial institutions. To satisfy users employing such devices, suitable elements and structures are utilized; this inspires developers to generate content tailored for such units. Nevertheless, the sheer amount of platform specific guidelines overwhelms developers aspiring to target multiple entities. The dissimilarities continue with the physical attributes, in which diverse sizes and shapes are the foremost contributing factors. With the establishment of new web standards, the technique of responsive web design has emerged to facilitate multi-platform development. Consisting of multiple components, the design principle aims to produce device-independent content, classifying common characteristics and neglecting device specific elements. The investigation of this work concerning the essential technical aspects has yielded three major traits of the technique. This, in conjunction with the constructed prototype and the analysis of a business platform employing the design, has established an adequate summary regarding the foundation of the design, and has come to prove itself as an outstanding candidate for cross-platform development.

Abstract:
While having a webpage that has a satisfactory design apart from the fact that it does not support a version for mobile devices, there are different ways to implement this functionality onto the already existing webpage without redesigning the whole webpage. This thesis looks at ways to implement Responsive Web Design to achieve a more mobile friendly webpage. The approach this thesis mainly focusing on is including different CSS frameworks to the already existing page and see how much trouble the include will cause and how much it will help with the transition into a responsive web design for the webpage. The report  looks at five different frameworks: Bootstrap, Foundation, Gumby, Ingrid, and Skeleton, as well as trying to achieve the responsive web design without including any predefined files of any kind. The report  tries to help defining different situations where some frameworks might help more, or even be problematic to use one. It also looks at which type of framework would be preferable in different situations. These situations have been collected by implementing the different solutions on the same webpage, taken from an already designed and published webpage to get a real world case scenario to use. The main focus has been on getting something working in the developer environment rather than cross-platform availability, but some different browser have been used as references to identify some problem areas but not included in the actual implementation to try and solve those problems.

Based on the Object Oriented Hypermedia Design Method approach, we used ontology concepts to define an application conceptual model, extending the expressive power of the original method. The navigational models definitions use a query language capable of querying both schema and instances, enabling the specification of flexible access structures. Additionally, we propose the use of faceted access structures to improve the selection of navigational objects organized by multiple criteria. Finally, we present an implementation architecture that allows the direct use of the application specifications when deriving a final application implementation.

Abstract: The Web and its underlying technologies enable interactions among people that were unimaginable a few years ago. An important type of purposeful interaction is collaboration. Mediated by the Web, people from different social and cultural backgrounds, with different needs, preferences and capabilities can collaborate with each other. Collaboration often takes place in heterogeneous contexts that are not only defined by the actual situations of the collaboration partners, but also by individual and collective past experiences. The Web as a medium has an impact on collaboration and facilitates or enables certain aspects of collaboration while making others more difficult. In this PhD thesis we investigate Interaction Design related questions about web-mediated collaboration under a Pragmatic Web perspective. Our prime objective is to understand semiotic barriers to web-mediated collaboration and propose an approach to Interaction Design that reduces these barriers. Semiotic barriers are barriers related to communication, mediation and representation. These barriers emerge during web-based collaboration since many mechanisms of interpersonal face-to-face communication are not available. Depending on the context, semiotic barriers often have a negative impact on collaboration, but in some cases they might also have positive effects. The approach to Interaction Design proposed in this PhD thesis is rooted in the Pragmatic Web and uses Organizational Semiotics and Activity Theory as its theoretical and methodological frames of reference. The theoretic investigations were practically grounded in real world practices by participating in a research project in the domain of inclusive education. We materialized the proposed approach in the design of a prototype and the implementation of the corresponding tool that supports a practice of inclusive education professionals. Furthermore we proposed and applied a pragmatics-driven evaluation method in a longitudinal case study. Prototype design, tool implementation, and the conducted evaluation provided evidence that the proposed approach to pragmatics-driven Interaction Design can reduce semiotic barriers and thus promote web-mediated collaboration

Abstract:
The use of mobile devices to access the World Wide Web is becoming more prevalent. When browsing webpages on small-screen devices, it is difficult to locate information of interest since the limited screen space can be fully packed with information. Also, browsing Web tables on small-screen devices is a non-trivial problem. To fit a large table in a small-screen device, the association between data values and their corresponding headers may be disrupted. It is difficult to locate information accurately if the data meanings are lost. For visually impaired users, the problem is even more challenging. Sequential presentation of the webpage by a screen reader is too time-consuming if the information of interest is placed at or near the end of the webpage. Therefore, there is a need to re-organize useful information in webpages in order to enhance information finding on small-screen devices. In this thesis, various adaptations are proposed by exploring and exploiting relationships between Web elements in the webpage. In the current literature, some proposed heuristics are based on specific HTML elements, which cannot be generalized. Some other algorithms assume a correct DOM structure, which would fail if the webpage is not properly marked up. Many algorithms extract blocks without assigning them the proper titles. A gap needs to be filled, such that extracted blocks will be given a proper title through exploring the relationships between semantic elements. In this thesis, I propose to integrate relationship analysis and DOM-tree structure traversal for identifying logical sections together with their section headings. By extracting all the section headings, a table of content can be constructed to provide direct access to interested sections in an efficient way. Relationship analysis is a critical complement to the DOM structure for identifying the semantic content hierarchy when a webpage is not properly marked up. By exploring relationships between table cells, the structure of an unstructured Web table can be extracted. The semantic meanings of the data values are retained by preserving the data values and their corresponding headers. A novel way of accessing a webpage, which converts the page itself and its Web table into menu-based presentation, is then proposed. Converting the webpage into an Interactive Voice Response System introduces yet another mode of access which can enhance the accessibility of the webpage. In addition to improving mobile accessibility, the proposed adaptations can also benefit the visually impaired users. Experiments show that the average effectiveness and efficiency of adaptation with direct access are improved by 18% and 15% respectively, which are clearly better than the case without adaptation. Also, by adapting the Web table into a series of menu pages, the effectiveness and efficiency are improved by 61% and 37% respectively. For the evaluations with visually impaired users, the adaptation with direct access can greatly improve efficiency by 85%. Some complicated Web tables in fact could not be properly interpreted by visually impaired users; the Web table adaptation makes them accessible. Information finding indeed becomes more efficient and effective when using the adapted versions.

The World-Wide Simulation Web (WWSW) is an emergent distributed simulation environment whose use model parallels that of the World-Wide Web (WWW). The idea was developed from working with two generations of the Distributed Object-Modeling Environment (DOME). A design for the architecture of the WWSW is proposed. The specification for the WWSW was determined by examining a list of desired features, deciding who the system users were and understanding use scenarios. The architecture design covers object model representation, server structure, client application structure, and graphical user interface guidelines. An implementation is complete of the core object model, client and server applications, and user interface concepts. Initial results have been promising since many desired features such as a flat object model representation, multiple model instances support, model solving, and advanced notification have been demonstrated. However, there is still a lot of work to be done to fully realize the complete WWSW vision.

Abstract:
The total product design process consists of several stages including the formulation of product design specifications, conceptual design, detail design, manufacture and sales. In recent years, the rapid development of computer technologies has greatly impacted the product development process. In the engineering area, powerful computer-based tools such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) systems enable engineers to fulfil various tasks in individual stages such as conceptual and detail design, and manufacturing simulation. However, the increasing complexity of modem products, cruel competition pressure and the globalisation of product development necessitate a collaborative design environment where distributed computer programs and dispersed experts in similar or different domains could be collaboratively involved in a common design activity, in order to obtain high quality and low cost product design. The key issues for establishing such a collaborative environment are the integration and communication of the computerised design resources with heterogeneity and distribution features. The collaborative architecture presented in this thesis employs a combination of CORBA with other technologies such as Java, Genetic Algorithms to integrate engineering design programs and to enable communication between them, regardless of languages they are written in and platforms they are ported on, and to leverage multiple design interests. The resultant Web-based architectures have identified and addressed three main application paradigms. Firstly, by using CORBA-Servlet, a singular large-size program can be executed remotely with interactive features such as parameter input, program execution and monitoring, and varieties of dynamic and rich forms of resultant return. The developed system also facilitates multi-user management. Secondly, Genetic Algorithms has been employed to combine the CORBA to mediate the impacts from different domain expert considerations over the distributed environment. In this environment, CORBA is used as an architecture for integrating multiple design applications that are heterogeneous and distributed and for enabling them to communicating with each other, a GA-based optimiser is designed to help a main designer to conduct gear design optimisations through invoking remote and heterogeneous applications to meet user's complex needs. Thirdly, Applet-CORBA based system is developed to provide a thin client model to enable users to do the remote invocation from a Web browser, without any setting up for CORBA in advance. As a user of this application, a designer does not need to get to know anything about CORBA. The rich features of applet allow client developers to design varieties forms of Web browser application, such as dynamic data, dynamic drawing, and so on. It is found that functionalities of traditional, stand-alone, single-user computer-aided applications can be extended by employing modem distributed object computing and web technologies. These technologies provide cornerstone and effective support in building scalable, extensible, and interactive distributed systems for collaborative design, as illustrated in demonstration systems developed in the present thesis.

"Web Design: production and analysis guide" is a scientific research that intends to investigare the context of development and the processes of website production for the WWW (World Wide Web). In this thesis, the term production is understood as the realization of a wide range of procedures that go from the creative conception, passing through structural organization, visual development, tools implementation, to effectuation of the many kinds of relationships between online hypermedias and the interactors. Based on Peircean Semiotics concepts and the General Systems Theory, this present research has the objective of providing an oriented guide to production and analysis of online-based projects.

Abstract:
The ubiquitous and simple interface of Web browsers has opened the door for the devel- opment of a new class of distributed applications which they have been known as Web applications. As more and more systems become Web-enabled we become increasingly dependent on the Web applications. Therefore, reliability of such systems is a very crucial factor for successful operation of many modern organisations and institutes. In the ¯rst part of this thesis we review how Web systems have evolved from simple static pages, in their early days, to their current situation as distributed applications with sophisticated functionalities. We also ¯nd out how the design methods have evolved to align with the rapid changes both in the new emerging technologies and growing functionalities. Although design approaches for Web applications have improved during the last decade we conclude that dependability should be given more consideration. In Chapter 2 we explain how this could be achieved through the application of formal methods. Therefore, we have provided an overview of dependability and formal methods in this chapter. In the second part of this research we follow a practical approach to the formal modelling of Web Applications. Accordingly, in Chapter 3 we have developed a series of formal models for an integrated holiday booking system. Our main objectives are to gain some common knowledge of the domain and to identify some key areas and features with regard to our formal modelling approach. Formal modelling of large Web applications could be a very complex process. In Chapter 4 we have introduced the idea of formal patterns for speci¯cation and re¯nement to accelerate the modelling process and to help alleviate the burden of formal modelling. In a further attempt to tackle the complexity of the formal modelling of Web applica- tions, we have introduced the idea of speci¯cation partitioning in Chapter 5. Speci¯- cation partitioning is closely related to the notion of composition. In this chapter we have extended some CSP-like composition techniques to build the system speci¯cation from subsystems or parts. The summary of our research, related ¯ndings and some suggestions for the future work are presented in Chapter 6.

The obtained results show that web modelling is a fundamental step of the web data integration process.

Abstract:
Dissertação de mestrado em Engenharia Informática
From computers to tablets and smartphones, the term ubiquity, combined with the diversity of devices available in the market, has changed the way we access and share information. It has become more and more important to offer solid user experiences to an increasing number of contexts. Responsive Web Design offers a set of tools to support the creation of web pages that adapt to any screen size. We use fluid grids, flexible images and media queries to adapt web pages regardless of the device's screen dimensions. Hoping to contribute with new resources to the responsive design area, this dissertation describes how a tool was developed which allows web sites' navigation to automatically adapt, according to different patterns. The main goal is to make designers' and developers' work easier by providing adaptive menus that adjust to the screen size. However, different use contexts cannot be limited to the screen size. Thinking on the specific case of mobile devices, which are with us wherever we go, different connectivity conditions (from strong wireless networks to limited 3G connections) may have an impact on the user experience. That's why optimization is such an important topic in responsive web design. Furthermore, touch screens open new opportunities to interact directly with the website and its content. Taking advantage of this new set of interactions, the featured tool reflects this optimization to approach user experience to each context.

In recent years, the users of mobile device are growth extremely. The current personal computer (desktop and notebook) no longer dominates in accessing web content. Mobile devices like tablets and smartphones have large populations in accessing website content, socializing, shopping, browsing, transacting. Players in information technology such as portal news, blogs, social media, web company flock to go “mobile”. With the development of mobile websites today, there are a variety of methods such as Responsive Web Design (RWD), Adaptive Web Design (AWD), and Mobile Site. Many of the articles say that the best method of web design at today is RWD. Desktop and mobile version in just one website is the one of the reasons that make RWD become the best web design methods. Although a lot of articles say RWD is the best web design methods nowadays, why some big companies are still using the Mobile Site or separate web design to build their website? This research will be done by disseminating a questionnaire, which will be aimed to users who have a basic knowledge in creating website such as programmers and website developers. The data that has been obtained, can be analyzed and get the conclusions.

Digital libraries can be considered as an extension of the brick-and-mortar libraries which provide electronic collections with much richer content, information services in digital forms, and powerful searching functions over the Internet. In order to facilitate the use of the digital libraries, the usability of digital libraries should be considered. One of the most important factors in usability is the user interface. Based on Thong, Hong, and Tam [26], “What Leads to User Acceptance of Digital Libraries?” user acceptance is highly relevant to build a web design framework particularly for the web design of digital libraries. By encompassing these key components of web design and well organized information, digital libraries can communicate with users properly and can match their needs. This study aims to explore if the design of digital library websites meet users demand, especially in terms of the organizational information that exhibit on the homepages and the establishment of 3Cs’ services. The research method involved analysis and evaluated those websites of the top 10 colleges of American Best Colleges 2007 on the US News website [40], and survey questionnaires to librarians and students. The data analyses were descriptive statistic and analysis variations. The major finding suggested that (1) the top five important items between librarians and students were the same; (2) there were some significant differences in some items among them, which meant that the most commonly used items seemed not exactly the most important items they thought; and (3) most librarians and students preferred functional websites and they thought Communication, Community, and Customization services were needed.. Accordingly, we know how to organize a website and what the important elements of web design are which can provide usability, based on user-centered aspect. The results of this study may help to provide some suggestions for digital library website designers to establish their websites.
