This article deals with modern approaches to the web applications analysis and design. Many methodologies specialized on web applications analysis and design have been developed, but have not reached mass usability yet, because differences between conventional and web applications are decreasing and requirements for the methodologies of the web applications analysis and design have been changed radically. The main goal of this article is to classify web applications and describe specific analysis and design requirements for each of these classes.

Gomes, Daniel. "Web Modelling for Web Warehouse Design." Doctoral thesis, Department of Informatics, University of Lisbon, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10451/14294.

Full text
Abstract:
Users require applications to help them obtaining knowledge from the web. However, the specific characteristics of web data make it difficult to create these applications. One possible solution to facilitate this task is to extract information from the web, transform and load it to a Web Warehouse, which provides uniform access methods for automatic processing of the data. Web Warehousing is conceptually similar to Data Warehousing approaches used to integrate relational information from databases. However, the structure of the web is very dynamic and cannot be controlled by the Warehouse designers. Web models frequently do not reflect the current state of the web. Thus, Web Warehouses must be redesigned at a late stage of development. These changes have high costs and may jeopardize entire projects. This thesis addresses the problem of modelling the web and its influence in the design of Web Warehouses. A model of a web portion was derived and based on it, a Web Warehouse prototype was designed. The prototype was validated in several real-usage scenarios. The obtained results show that web modelling is a fundamental step of the web data integration process

Abstract:
Purpose – Web is no longer solely about functionality and information as it used to be. Nowadays the aesthetic aspects, including creativity, could be considered just as important. However, web designers still need to fulfil the needs of clients and users in the design process which causes various design constraints. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how web designers’ creativity is affected by various design constraints. This is explored by one main research question and a sub-question: 1.) How is web designers’ creativity affected by design constraints?; 1.1) What could cause web designers to break web design guidelines? Method – This research applied an inductive, qualitative approach with an exploratory view. In order to find answers for the research questions, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 8 participants from the field of web design. The data gathered was later analysed and evaluated through thematic analysis Conclusions – The findings of this study suggest that while there are some positive effects, web designers’ creativity is mostly negatively affected by design constraints. Furthermore, it seems web designers break web design guidelines due to finding them irrelevant and/or to get a more creative outcome as well as breaking them unintentionally. Delimitations – This study only covers how web designers reason regards the research questions and does not include the perspective of web developers. Moreover, this thesis focuses solely on website design and does not involve design for mobile applications.

Abstract:
The ability to target consumer segments and achieve a match between the product or promotional instrument and the consumer self-concept is stressed in the marketing literature. The online quality of a website has been said to have a positive impact on intention to use a website and perform a search, with preference for a website linked to perceptions of its credibility. Website preferences cam also encourage or discourage consumers’ purchasing intentions and the perceived visual attractiveness of a website is said to have a greater impact on e-loyalty and consumer retention than traditional attributes such as product selection and price. The important impact of preferences necessitates an understanding of the factors in a website that can appeal or not to people. Unfortunately, until as recently as 2004, studies investigating website aesthetics were anchored in the universalist paradigm which assumed that reactions would be universally held rather than differentiated according to demographic variables. A Canadian study in 2005 documented differences in reaction by gender but this study was inadequate in using a single commercial stimulus which had not been selected on any particular basis. Prior to this, research on web aesthetics was rooted in the universalist aesthetic in assuming that a single set of factors would suit all tastes. The overview describes the work by the author to ascertain the extent to which website productions differ by segmentation variables and the extent to which preferences can also be segmented. The author’s work has isolated the impact of segmentation variables (gender, personality and nationality) on website productions and of gender on website preferences and the overview focuses on gender since the impact of this variable has been explored in relation to productions and preferences.

After the expansion and popularization of information technology and the Internet, there are projects that integrate computational aspects and aesthetic intentions. The difficult task of identifying them and categorize them as art and as web design is the subject of this research. The main purpose involves research and mapping of digital design. Then be presented criteria defining web art and web design. Are proposed, based on case studies a comparative analysis of projects web sites art sites and digital design. The theoretical research is based on various authors such as Lucia Santaella, Clement Mok, Claudia Giannetti, Vicente Gosciola, Diana Domingues, Fabio Oliveira Nunes, Gilbertto Prado and Lucia Leão

Abstract:
Responsive Web Design (RWD) has quickly moved from a concept to one of the biggest trends within WebDevelopment. Today it is close to implied that new Websites should use the technique RWD. Even so the techniquedo not cover all problems the developers are facing today when it comes to the flora of mobile devices. Within this thesis we are digging deeper into the technique, both in practice and theory, in order to make conclusionson its advantages and disadvantages. This we fulfilled by creating both an application platform and a first application(to handle vacation requests) for the company Sigma AB, there one of basic requirements were that everythingdeveloped could be used anywhere. From our results we are giving recommendations for when you should use RWD and when you should considerother techniques like Native- or HTML5 applications.

Abstract:
Abstract We have developed a Web-based interactive cam design package under the programming paradigm of the CH language environment. This package was initially developed as a teaching and learning tool for educational use in an undergraduate Computer-Aided Mechanism Design course. Because the system is Web-based and implemented through a client/server model with the user interface through the Web browser, it is easy to use and maintain. The system can also be used to solve practical engineering cam design problems with two follower motion types of translation and oscillation. The system can be used to generate cam profile, position, velocity, and acceleration histories of the follower. Once a cam/follower system is designed, animation of the cam/follower system can be performed. At the end of the design, the CNC code for manufacturing the designed cam can also be produced through our Web-based cam design system. The package consists of a number of modules including various Web pages, common gateway interface (CGI) programs, and a CH program called cam which performs the necessary computation for cam design. Two different versions of the cam design package have been designed and implemented. One runs the cam design program on the client machine as a CH applet, and the other runs the cam design program on the Web server though CGI. In this paper, details of design and implementation of Web-based cam design package will be described. Two application examples with different motion types for the follower will be used to illustrate features of the applet-based and CGI-based implementation schemes.
