Abstract:
Bugscope is a second generation educational project in the World Wide Laboratory that provides web browser based control of scientific imaging instrumentation using the Internet. We had previously demonstrated web based remote access to sophisticated scientific imaging systems several years ago in the Chickscope project. The primary goal of the Bugscope project is to demonstrate that relatively low cost, sustainable access to an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) can be made available to K-12 classrooms. Methods: To participate in the project, a classroom submits a web based application that describes how they plan to use the microscope. If the application is accepted, a one hour session on the ESEM is scheduled and the classroom mails in their chosen specimen. During their access time, classrooms use a standard web browser over the Internet to control and acquire images from the ESEM (Philips/FEI XL-30FEG).

Abstract:
Background. AIDA is a widely available downloadable educational simulator of glucose-insulin interaction in diabetes.Methods. A web-based version of AIDA was developed that utilises a server-based architecture with HTML FORM commands to submit numerical data from a web-browser client to a remote web server. AIDA online, located on a remote server, passes the received data through Perl scripts which interactively produce 24 hr insulin and glucose simulations.Results. AIDA online allows users to modify the insulin regimen and diet of 40 different prestored “virtual diabetic patients” on the internet or create new “patients” with user-generated regimens. Multiple simulations can be run, with graphical results viewed via a standard web-browser window. To date, over 637,500 diabetes simulations have been run at AIDA online, from all over the world.Conclusions. AIDA online’s functionality is similar to the downloadable AIDA program, but the mode of implementation and usage is different. An advantage to utilising a server-based application is the flexibility that can be offered. New modules can be added quickly to the online simulator. This has facilitated the development of refinements to AIDA online, which have instantaneously become available around the world, with no further local downloads or installations being required.

Abstract:
An efficient and effective management is mandatory for the success of every organization, especially educational institutes. Following the course curriculum and completing it in time are beneficial for the students and the colleges’ reputation in educational institutes. In this paper, intelligent management of physical education curriculum is designed using a Web-based teaching assistant system. The multilayer designed system provides convenience for teachers and students of health and physical education. The data layer collects input data from users and transmits it to the storage layer after being compiled by the decoder. The layer uses memory to save the transmitted data and integrate the saved data into the expansion chip and transmit it to the transmission layer. The Web server at this layer outputs the transmitted data in the form of an HTML structure file through a CGI program and feeds back the output to the browser of the application layer. The man-machine interaction interface of the application layer uses a large-scale hierarchical information visualization method to show data on the browser to users. The experimental results show that the system has comprehensive functions, fast processing speed, and low energy consumption. It has a good page display effect, which is in line with the user’s visual cognition; the recall rate of curriculum scheduling data and curriculum selection data is always higher than 96%, and the data analysis ability is excellent.

This paper explains the design, development and implementation of a web-based educational module for an introductory electromagnetic (EM) course at Monash University. It contains tutorials, interactive simulation and animation. The two most important sections of the module, namely ‘electric dipole’ and ‘experimental field mapping’, are described here. Both these sections are interactive and with the help of visual graphical displays and audio files they ‘stimulate’ the sight and sound senses for understanding. The module can act as an instructional aid and helps not only in understanding the fundamental concepts but also in providing a greater appreciation of the applications of EM theory. The responses from interactive simulation are displayed directly on the client browser. The overall package is developed using Java, HTML, CGI scripts written in Perl and MATLAB.

The authors present a learning platform based on a computer game. Learning games combine two industries: education and entertainment, which is often called “Edutainment.” The game is realized as a strategic game (similar to Risk™), implemented as a module for Moodle CMS, utilizing Java Applet technology. Moodle is an open-source course management system (CMS), which is widely used among universities as an eLearning platform. Java Applet enables development of rich-client applications which are executed in web browser environment. During the game, players receive questions from specified Moodle quiz, and all answers are stored back into Moodle system. Students can later verify their score and answers, and examine the test that they actually worked on during the game. This system supports synchronous as well as asynchronous interaction between players.

Abstract:
There are a growing number of jobs related to web development, yet there is little formal literature about the accessibility of web development with a screen reader. This article describes research to explore (1) web development accessibility issues and their impact on blind learners and programmers; (2) tools and strategies used to address issues; and (3) opportunities for creating inclusive web development curriculum and supportive tools. We conducted a Comprehensive Literature Review (CLR) to formulate accessibility issue categories, then interviewed 12 blind programmers to validate and expand on both issues in education and practice. The CLR yielded five issue categories: (1) visual information without an accessible equivalent, (2) orienting, (3) navigating, (4) lack of support, and (5) knowledge and use of supportive technologies. Our interview findings validated the use of CLR-derived categories and revealed nuances specific to learning and practicing web development. Blind web developers grapple with the inaccessibility of demonstrations and explanations of web design concepts, wireframing software, independent verification of computed Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and navigating browser-based developer tool interfaces. Tools and strategies include seeking out alternative education materials to learn independently, use of CSS frameworks, collaboration with sighted colleagues, and avoidance of design and front-end development. This work contributes to our understanding of accessibility issues specific to web development and the strategies that blind web developers employ in both educational and applied contexts. We identify areas in which greater awareness and application of accessibility best practices are required in Web education, a need to disseminate existing screen reader strategies and accessible tools, and to develop new tools that support Web design and validation of CSS. Finally, this research signals future directions for the development of accessible web curriculum and supportive tools, including solutions that leverage artificial intelligence, tactile graphics, and supportive-online communities of practice.

Abstract:
AbstractUndertaking an experience-sampling study via smartphones is complex. Scheduling and sending mobile notifications often requires the use of proprietary software that imposes limits on participants’ operating systems (whether iOS or Android) or the types of questions that can be asked via the application. We have developed an open-source platform—Samply—which overcomes these limitations. Researchers can access the entire interface via a browser, manage studies, schedule and send notifications linking to online surveys or experiments created in any Internet-based service or software, and monitor participants' responses—all without the coding skills usually needed to program a native mobile application. Participants can download the Samply Research mobile application for free from Google Play or the App Store, join a specific study, receive notifications and web links to surveys or experiments, and track their involvement. The mobile application leverages the power of the React Native JavaScript library, which allows it to be rendered in the native code of Android and iOS mobile operating systems. We describe Samply, provide a step-by-step example of conducting an experience-sampling study, and present the results of two validation studies. Study 1 demonstrates how we improved the website’s usability for researchers. Study 2 validates the mobile application’s data recording ability by analyzing a survey’s participation rate. The application’s possible limitations and how mobile device settings might affect its reliability are discussed.

Abstract:
This article reports an exploratory study which investigated attitudes towards the practice of game-based learning in teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) within a Thai educational context. This self-administered Internet-based survey yielded 169 responses from a snowball sampling technique. Three fifths of respondents were female (59.2% or N=100 females and 40.8% or N=69 males). Slightly more than half (55.6%) of the participants were elementary, secondary and university students. An additional second group of thirty-five per cent (N=59) were teachers who were in charge of STEM educational programs. Almost one tenth (9.5%, N=16) were parents. Frequency tables were used to analyze the quantitative data. The qualitative data was derived from a single open-ended question. The study found some divergent opinions that are useful in considering game-based learning for STEM education in Thailand. The overall average attitude towards the usage of game-based learning was very positive (3.92 out of 5, S.D. = 0.80). The study found that the majority of informants preferred that the delivery mode was online through a web browser followed by the mobile mode through an application and the least preferred was the offline mode recorded on CD-ROM (55.0%, 31.4% and 13.6% respectively). Thai was still the most preferred language to be used though both students and parents surveyed had a stronger preference for English and a Thai-English bilingual mode than the teachers. An important finding in this research was that stakeholders expected game-based learning to be integrated into the traditional classroom because of its enhanced learning approach.

Abstract:
Seminars and workshops are inseparable activities from the world of education in higher education. As the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education is teaching, research and service. The results of the research conducted require publication through writing or seminars and workshops. However, there are still many seminars and workshops that hold it conventionally starting from the announcement of the event, registration of participants, to the process of implementing the event. So that it feels less effective. Therefore a Smart Seminar and web and Android based Workshop system is needed, which can facilitate the announcement of events and registration of participants online, absent attendees with QRCode, and make participants able to ask questions directly through the application without interrupting the content being conveyed by the speaker. The research method that was carried out in the first stage was collecting data and information through interviews, literature studies, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with seminar and workshop experts. The second stage is to build the system using the Waterfall type SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) method. The Waterfall Model provides a sequential or sequential software lifecycle approach starting from analysis, design, coding, testing, and maintenance. The results of the Smart Seminar and Worksop system design can facilitate educational institutions in conducting seminars and workshops effectively and more quality, as well as more interactive between participants and speakers in terms of questions and answers. This application can be accessed via a web browser or with an Android application.

Abstract:
The article deals with Gran software and the access to it through the remote desktop. The peculiarities of web-based remote desktop access and Gran software system for teaching mathematics at school are revealed. The paper also describes the application of open source software (Ulteo OVD) that allows users to remotely access their desktops and applications using one of the Desktop as a Service cloud components through a client device browser. The modes of using Ulteo OVD client software are described. Two servers (Application Server and Session Manager Server) have been organized to use Ulteo OVD by means of PROXMOX web-based virtual environment. The authors propose the way to use Ulteo OVD to access software installed on a remote server, in particular Gran software. The article also describes some examples of graphical problem solving using Gran1 that can be used in maths at school. The considered issues are quite complex and rather time-consuming without Gran1 software for graphical analysis of various tasks and approximate calculation of numerical measures of different objects (lengths of surfaces, areas of surfaces, volumes of bodies, probabilities of occurrence of different events, statistical analysis of observational data) of their solving. The range of tasks that can be solved with the use of the Gran software package, in particular Gran1 programme, is quite broad. By applying a creative approach, their analysis and solution can have a positive effect on the learners’ mental and cultural development. It is emphasized that the use of various technologies in educational process, as well as the selection of tasks and the content of training in general, should be pedagogically weighted, based on the harmonious combination of pedagogical heritage of the past and modern achievements of scientific and technological progress.

Abstract:
The modern web-based distance education overcomes space-time restriction of the traditional teaching forms. However, being short of specifically observable and operable experimental equipment makes the web-based education lack advantages in the knowledge learning progress, which needs strong stereoscopic effect and operability. Truck crane is the most widely used crane installed on ordinary or tailor-made chassis with strong operability. This paper introduces a kind of interactive truck crane simulation platform based on the virtual reality technology, on which can complete the simulation experiment of the crane's movement. The framework and working principle of the interactive truck crane simulation platform are discussed in the paper, while landing leg and hook are used as an example to show the motion control mechanism of truck crane components. The interactive truck crane simulation platform uses the browser-based structure, Java3D, virtual reality and Java Applet, etc. to develop a Web3D virtual reality learning environment, which has the advantages of good interaction, strong sense of reality, simple update, less investment and so on. This learning environment can meet the needs that many students study online at the same time, so it has important application in the distance education of mechanical profession and remote training of vocational skills.

Abstract:
This paper presents an open-access platform for practical learning of intelligent robotics in engineering degrees: Robotics-Academy. It comprises a collection of exercises including recent service robot applications in real life, with different robots such as autonomous cars, drones or vacuum cleaners. It uses Robot Operating System (ROS) middleware, the de facto standard in robot programming, the 3D Gazebo simulator and the Python programming language. For each exercise, a software template has been developed, performing all the auxiliary tasks such as the graphical interface, connection to the sensors and actuators, timing of the code, etc. This also hosts the student’s code. Using this template, the student just focuses on the robot intelligence (for instance, perception and control algorithms) without wasting time on auxiliary details which have little educational value. The templates are coded as ROS nodes or as Jupyter Notebooks ready to use in the web browser. Reference solutions for illustrative purposes and automatic assessment tools for gamification have also been developed. An introductory course to intelligent robotics has been elaborated and its contents are available and ready to use at Robotics-Academy, including reactive behaviors, path planning, local/global navigation, and self-localization algorithms. Robotics-Academy provides a valuable complement to master classes in blended learning, massive online open courses (MOOCs) and online video courses, devoted to addressing theoretical content. This open educational tool connects that theory with practical robot applications and is suitable to be used in distance education. Robotics-Academy has been successfully used in several subjects on undergraduate and master’s degree engineering courses, in addition to a pre-university pilot course.

Abstract:
The objective in this study was to investigate the state of art of Thai citizens and their roles in national security of Thailand. Documentary research was employed in this study. The findings revealed that Thai citizens played a big role as both supporters and objectors for national security of Thailand due to both external and internal changes. As supporters of Thai government’s jurisdiction, good citizens must comply with IT-related laws that allowed Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) and related authorized agencies that enhanced the level of controlling on data via surface web sites. As objectors, they committed civil disobedience-oriented activities beyond Thai government’s jurisdiction via the application of privacy-based non-governmental cryptocurrency (such as Monero) and web browsers for underground web sites (such as TOR and I2P) for hiding all data of their identities and money transfer. In addition, Thai citizens were also protected by net states as citizen-user in a form of business civil disobedience.

Abstract:
Recently, various types of Social Networking Service (SNS) have been actively utilized in many educational situations, and the effectiveness has been continuously reported. The aim of this paper is to develop a web based discussion support system, to introduce the proposed system to a real university lecture, and to examine the operational policy for improving the learning effect from the viewpoint of quantitative perspective. The system of this paper offers interactivity between lecturers and students to dialogue opportunities in a PBL practical lecture. To support interactions in learning, a web application of SNS with groupware function and micro-blog based communication function similar to Twitter is developed with LAMP and Ajax, and it works as an information transmission platform for enhancing interactions and collaborative activities. All students can post their comments and questions by the form of short messages through a web browser on their own cell/smart phone or PC device under unique online name. The constructed SNS is only available within local area network, and only messages related to the contents of the lecture are accepted by the prepared operational policy. The constructed SNS continues to work not only during lecture but also after class. The process and the history of interactions continue to be stored on the virtual space, so a lecturer can get to know the condition of students such as the depth of understanding and the difficulty level of the contents, and besides, students can easily cooperate with each other. This paper prepared 3 different operational policies for each learning group, and clarified the difference between these operational policies from the viewpoint of complex network theory. Also by comparing each operational policy on the basis of subjective evaluation result and the quality of learning outcome, an efficient operational policy to promote SNS blended learning was clarified. Additionally, the characteristics of SNS utilization according to student's learning outcome were shown with principal component analysis.

Abstract:
Today's dynamic web-based applications have become a normal and critical asset to an organizations business. They come with an increase in the number of web vulnerabilities and attacks. These weaknesses allow hackers to focus their attention on attacking this important information source. The most common vulnerability is cross-site scripting (XSS) and one of the Open Web Application Security project (OWASP) top ten web-threats. XSS occurs when a Web-based application allows untrusted information be accepted and sent back to a browser. Also they can execute scripts within a browser that can deface web sites, redirect users to malicious content and hijack browsers. One reason for this problem was the lack of developers understanding the causes of XSS. In this paper, the authors address the causes of XSS and countermeasures to defense against these threats.

Abstract:
The complication of the logic of educational web applications raises the issue of the effectiveness of the organization of their implementation. At the same time, efficiency, including pedagogical one, is connected among other factors with the technology of implementation of programs. When using as the main browser program, it is necessary to take into account its features, in particular, one-flow mode of execution of programs (scripts). Implementation of more complex algorithms in web applications delays the response of the application interface to user actions. This creates a discomfort for the user and, as a result, reduces the effectiveness of his work. Expanding the range of devices from which users access the Internet leads to the fact that mobile devices are more and more often used for learning as well. Therefore, another side of the problem is the impact on the quality of connection to the server. It is necessary to ensure the work of the program in case of interruptions in connection or reduce their impact. A solution to the problem may be the implementation of part of the calculations in the background. The article deals with the use of calculations in the background streams of the browser and caching control for educational web applications. Various ways of creating such streams and the peculiarities of their use are analyzed.

Abstract:
Abstract Summary In recent years, the ability to generate genomic data has increased dramatically along with the demand for easily personalized and customizable genome browsers for effective visualization of diverse types of data. Despite the large number of web-based genome browsers available nowadays, none of the existing tools provides means for creating multiple visualization instances without manual set up on the deployment server side. The Cranfield Genome Browser (CRAMER) is an open-source, lightweight and highly customizable web application for interactive visualization of genomic data. Once deployed, CRAMER supports seamless creation of multiple visualization instances in parallel while allowing users to control and customize multiple tracks. The application is deployed on a Node.js server and is supported by a MongoDB database which stored all customizations made by the users allowing quick navigation between instances. Currently, the browser supports visualizing a large number of file formats for genome annotation, variant calling, reads coverage and gene expression. Additionally, the browser supports direct Javascript coding for personalized tracks, providing a whole new level of customization both functionally and visually. Tracks can be added via direct file upload or processed in real-time via links to files stored remotely on an FTP repository. Furthermore, additional tracks can be added by users via simple drag and drop to an existing visualization instance. Availability and implementation CRAMER is implemented in JavaScript and is publicly available on GitHub on https://github.com/FadyMohareb/cramer. The application is released under an MIT licence and can be deployed on any server running Linux or Mac OS. Abstract:
There are several studies for developing web-based CAE applications to substitute existing CAE applications. CASOW is the web-based CAE system developed by the author. The approach for implementation of the system is to use fundamental technologies, for instance, HTML, HTTP, CSS and so on, because we cannot know whether new technologies will be alive or not. Certain technologies bring specific advantages to the applications, but a life time of the application would be short. Recently a great advantage of web interface is developed. Such a representative application is Google Maps which doesn’t require any special software components; however the application realizes interactiveness of the application. The technology is called Ajax which drastically overcomes the bad interactiveness on the web browser. On the other hand, high efficiency of analysis work with high performance computers produces many kinds of knowledge and a large amount of information. We are confronted with inefficient knowledge and information management in the network system. This paper presents the new web-based CAE system using Ajax and knowledge sharing framework with compatibility to web interface. The system is presented, and advantages of the interface, effectiveness of the API in the system and knowledge sharing framework are discussed.

Short for Browser/Server, B/S is designed to centralize the core part of system functions on the server side, when users just need to install a browser on the client side, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox. Thus, the browser can be used for data exchange through the Web Server anywhere, as long as the computer accesses to the Internet. As a result, there is no doubt that the development of B/S structure system has become main-stream as the Internet has developed rapidly today [1]. As we all know, it is increasingly challenging that customers are having more and more requirements of details and depths, which demands more of a software developer. Now we are exploring a new method of programming by configuring database in order to improve the traditional three layer architecture (3-tier application). It would be quicker and more convenient for developers to modify functions according to the requirement changes from customers, largely reducing the workload either in development or maintenance.

Bugscope is a new educational project in the World Wide Laboratory. The World Wide Laboratory provides Web browser based control of scientific imaging instrumentation using the Internet [1]. Providing K-12 classrooms with web based remote access to sophisticated scientific imaging systems was initially demonstrated by us in 1996 in the Chickscope project [2,3]. Chickscope allowed students to study chicken embryo development using a remotely controlled magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system from their classrooms. While the Chickscope project was highly successful, the resources required to provide operational support for the remote imaging aspects of the project for a small number of classrooms were enormous and the project was not sustainable. The Bugscope project builds on the methods developed and the lessons learned from the Chickscope project. The primary goal is to demonstrate that relatively low cost, sustainable access to an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) can be made available to K-12 classrooms to examine arthropods. Methods: Classrooms use a standard web browser over the Internet to control and acquire images from a Philips XL-30FEG ESEM. The architecture to support remote acquisition is shown in fig. 1. The client/server control architecture for the ESEM remote control server is based on the emScope control library [4].

Abstract. As web applications become more popular, 3D city models would greatly benefit from a proper web-based solution to visualise and manage them. CityJSON was introduced as a JSON encoding of the CityGML data model and promises, among several benefits, the ability to be integrated with modern web technologies. In order to provide an implementation of a web application for CityJSON data, that can be used as a reference for other applications, we developed ninja. It is a web application that allows the user to easily load and investigate a CityJSON model through a web browser. In addition, it offers support for a complex feature of CityJSON: the experimental versioning mechanism. In this paper, we describe the motivation, requirements, technical aspects and achieved functionality of ninja. We believe that such a web application can facilitate the adoption of 3D city models by more practitioners and decision makers.

Abstract:
Material selection became one of the important activities for engineers in design and manufacturing processes. A selected material at the beginning of design stage affects functionality of the designed part as well as manufacturability and cost of the final product. Unfortunately there are not many accessible material databases that can be properly used for design. In this research, a web-based material database was constructed. In order to assist designers to compare different materials, two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphs for comparison of material properties were provided via the web browser. Using these graphical tools, multi-dimensional comparison was available in more intuitive manner. In addition, this web site is open to the public, and one may add new material properties to the database in order to compare the data with existing materials. To provide the database in a commercial CAD (Computer Aided Design) environment, API (Application Programming Interface) modules were developed using Web services. The web-based material database can be accessible from http://fab.snu.ac.kr/matdb.

Web Push Notification application can display website-based notifications even if you don't open the web browser directly or in a minimized condition. Web Push Notification is a notification mechanism using Javascript in a web browser. This feature is available in the HTML5 Push API by using a Push Service or Messaging server that sends notifications to subscribed web browsers without opening the website so that it can broadcast and the HTML5 Notification API does not require a Push Service or Messaging server but must open a website, but not supported all web browsers so that this paper discusses Push Notification Web Implementation in archive management information systems using PushJS, the development method used is the Rational Unified Process (RUP). Notification technology that is suitable for web-based archive management information systems namely HTML5 Notification API because it will not send the same notification to all users. But there is no process behind the scenes so that it will not be run automatically, the problem is overcome by using AJAX by retrieving JSON and then running repeatedly on the web browser and minimizing clashes between web push notification scripts on multi tab windows or web browser windows resolved using localStorage from the HTML5 WebStorage API. The test results show that the application of Web Push Notification technology in the Archive Management Information System can help users manage many archives and use AJAX influences the speed of web access.</em></p><p class="Abstrak"><em><strong><br /></strong></em></p>
