Abstract:
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission sponsored us to perform a human factors evaluation of existing swimming pool warning signs. Our study covered warnings which convey the messages “NO DIVING” and “WATCH CHILDREN”. These warnings are particularly intended to reduce the incidence of diving accidents involving teenage boys and drowning accidents involving children under five; population groups that are over-represented in accident statistics. Our evaluation of twenty-two existing signs uncovered deviations from warning sign design principles and identified opportunities to improve each of the signs. Following the evaluation, we developed improved signs and tested them using teenage boys and mothers of young children as subjects. We then made final recommendations to the CPSC for improved signs.

Abstract:
When there are conflicting views within a client body on the merits of an information-design product, judicious testing may provide a way out of a difficult situation. The process of discussing and agreeing upon that testing may itself provide useful clarification of the brief. This article discusses the testing of how well some warning signs stand out and how well they can be discriminated from each other. A railway authority wanted to replace remote area signalmen with stationary warning boards, but the union objected to the original design. Laboratory-based testing was used to answer questions about conspicuity and discriminability and to evaluate a proposed solution.

Abstract:
Melting ice is one of the concerns of world climate scientists and planners. It is the gradual change of ice in the liquid form caused by increase in atmospheric temperature. Global Warming is the increase in atmospheric temperature caused by greenhouse effects (C02, CH4, N20 and CFCs). Increase in temperature of atmosphere by 1oC that has been occurred since 1860 AD (IPCC, 1996). Scientists predicted that the Earth would warm by 1.4 to 5.8oC by 2100. In case of Nepal, increase of temperature was recorded 0.06oC per year (DHM). Sea level rise causes by melting ice is recent warning sign. The Times Center, 2007 estimated sea level rise would be 51 -140 cm by 2100 AD. It affects wide variety of ecosystem, water resources, agriculture, life and livelihoods of people in the world. However, its impact is largely unpredictable and uncertainty. There were series of glacial outburst in Nepal since 1964, destroying ecosystem of surrounding region caused by global warming. Therefore, IPCC member's countries with United State of America (USA) must act quickly to reduce greenhouse gasses to overcome threat of melting ice. Abstract:
Relapse in schizophrenia remains common and cannot be entirely eliminated even by the best combination of biological and psychosocial interventions (Linszen et al, 1998). Relapse prevention is crucial as each relapse may result in the growth of residual symptoms (Shepherd et al, 1989) and accelerating social disablement (Hogarty et al, 1991). Many patients feel ‘entrapped’ by their illnesses, a factor highly correlated with depression (Birchwood et al, 1993), and have expressed a strong interest in learning to recognise and prevent impending psychotic relapse.

Abstract:
The extent to which consumer's attention for safety signs varies over time and the extent to which consumer's impression of product safety are altered by the presence of a safety sign were investigated. A total of 60 subjects had one of two types of signs (safety message or security message) placed on the front of a VDU. Subjects were administered a questionnaire after either one or three weeks of exposure to the signs. Results indicate that safety signs can be rapidly habituated to if the sign's content is not seen as relevant to the task at hand. In addition it was found that the presence of a safety sign resulted in subjects identifying more product related safety hazards.

Abstract:
This study examined the extent to which predicted responses to ANSI Z535-style warning signs and labels correspond to actual responses. In previous studies, lay people's impressions of the influence of warning attributes have not been found to accurately predict actual responses to warnings or to reflect the effects obtained in behavioral studies for different warning conditions. However, these studies have not specifically focused on the connection between predicted and actual responses to warnings that vary according to conformance with an ANSI standard for product warnings. Four warning scenarios were employed in the present study, with warnings varying according to the extent of ANSI-conformance. Participants consistently and incorrectly predicted that people would be more likely to notice and/or comply with warnings that were more consistent with ANSI as opposed to those warnings that were less-consistent with ANSI. Collectively, people's perception of differences in response to warnings was not consistent with what has been reported in observational studies.

Abstract:
Symbol signs – signs without words – are often used to communicate safety or public information messages. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) provides standards ISO 3864-1 and ISO 3864-3 giving design principles for both graphical symbols and completed signs in the safety arena. The present study shows that for difficult signage circumstances a two-part sign, showing the desired and undesired circumstances with a tick and a cross, can be much more effective than the normal single-part sign provided for by these ISO standards. The present study also suggests that ISO’s sign assessment methods could be efficiently combined and simplified.

Abstract:
Despite the improvement in utilization of project management tools and techniques over the years, there are still many projects failed to meet their objectives. Early warning signs becomes one of the concepts used to detect the potential cause of failure in a project. Early warning is defined by signals, which can be seen variously as an expression, indication, a proof, or a sign of existence of some future negative issues. In recent years, several researches regarding early warning signs have been proposed by many authors, varying from project assessment stage in detecting the signs, methodology in conduction early warning sign research and the type of the projects tested. This article presents a review of related work on early warning signs of project failure to give conceptual insights on what early warning is.

Abstract:
Roadkill is a serious threat for many species of freshwater turtles. One of the most common road mitigation tools is wildlife warning signs to alert drivers. These warning signs have commonly been used for large mammals, although there is little evidence that they are effective in reducing roadkill. We tested the effectiveness of turtle warning signs at four known roadkill hotspots along a provincial highway in eastern Ontario and compared the results with four control sites on a nearby major road in a before-after-control-impact (BACI) study. We found 30 dead turtles in the four hotspots in 2017 before the signs were installed and 27 in 2018 after the signs were installed. The number of turtles killed on the road after the signs were installed did not change significantly (χ21 = 1.1, P > 0.2). Although turtle warning signs may alert some drivers, they should not be considered a replacement for more effective road mitigation tools, such as wildlife fencing and crossing structures.
