Abstract:
This article attempts to determine the state of the art in American urban history by looking at 1) the frequency with which books are used in syllabi, 2) the contents of the Journal of Urban History for the last five years, 3) the topics of books awarded prizes by the Urban History Association, and 4) the number of libraries that hold copies of the leading books in the field. The conclusions note a loss of influence by such writers as Mumford, Caro, and Warner, a continuation of the emphasis on narrow, modern time periods, and a general decline in the importance of the field. Comments by Timothy Gilfoyle and Carl Abbott contest the latter conclusion.

I found myself laughing at the baffled faces of my library volunteers the first morning of our newly formed preschool reading time, Destination Library Tails.I warned them that we would have a lot of people show up. These two volunteers had jumped at the chance to head an ongoing preschool reading time—one that could take place in the morning for parents with small children and for homeschool families. I was thrilled to have someone in the community who cared enough to dedicate two days a month to providing this service, especially because it would be an ongoing program. I just needed them to trust me when I said a lot of kids would show up.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background of the study In 1978, kangaroo mother care (KMC) was proposed as a caring alternative for low birth weight infants. The method of skin to skin contact has shown physiologic, cognitive and emotional gains for preterm infant, however, kangaroo mother care has not been studied adequately in term newborns. The present study reporting early outcomes of comparing the kangaroo mother care to radiant warmer care. Objectives of the study: • To assess the neurobehavioral response of the newborn during radiant warmer care (RWC) and kangaroo mother care • The effect of radiant warmer care and kangaroo mother care on neurobehavioral response of the newborn. Methods A quasi-experimental post-test design was used in this study to compare the effect of kangaroo mother care and radiant warmer care on neurobehavioral response of term newborn. A total of 40 subjects who met the inclusion criteria were randomized—20 to KMC and 20 to RWC by simple random sampling technique. The data was collected by using the following tools: 1. Observational check list 2. Modified Brazelton Behavioral Assessment Scale. Results Both study groups were similar regarding all physiologic state variables. There is a slight difference in the behavioral state, the mean behavioral response scores of the RWC and KMC were 5.6500 and 5.9500 respectively, and the mean difference was 0.300. Interpretation and conclusion: The findings of the study showed that kangaroo mother care seems to influence state organization and physiologic state regulation of the newborn infant shortly after birth.

Abstract:
Ajuga orientalis L. is a widespread plant species in many countries, such as Greece, Italy and Turkey, with promising aesthetic value in the field and in landscape design, but nothing is known about its phenology, from a detailed, quantitatively, point of view, in relation to meteorological variables. Thus, under the aforementioned context, the purpose of our work is the elucidation of part of the phenology of this plant, especially concerning its flowering. To achieve this, the phenological stage ‘Beginning of flowering’, in terms of its start dates (julian days), was investigated in relation to average air temperature (T) of March in two areas, Roudi and Kaboulieri at north-northwest and south-southeast slopes, respectively, of Mount Aenos, Cephalonia, Greece, for three successive years (2014-2016). From the analysis of the T of March, it was confirmed that Kaboulieri area was significantly warmer (P<0.05) than Roudi area by 0.8 oC both in 2014 and 2015, with a significantly earlier appearance (P<0.05) of ‘Beginning of flowering’ of A. orientalis in Kaboulieri, ranging from 9.1 (2015) to 10.9 (2014) julian days. The findings of our study could be used for the planning of an efficient preservation program process of the aforementioned plant species in a vulnerable mountainous environment, such as the Mount Aenos environment, as well as for its further exploitation as a decorative plant.

Abstract:

Abstract:
People with mental illness have always been marginalised and economically disadvantaged. Warner (1987) has shown that this is particularly true in times of high unemployment. Poor inner-city areas have excessive rates of severe mental illness, usually without the health, housing and social service provisions necessary to deal with them (Faris & Dunham, 1959). The majority of those who suffer major mental illness live in impoverished circumstances somewhere along the continuum of poverty. Homelessness, however defined, is the extreme and most marginalised end of this continuum, and it is here that we find disproportionate numbers of the mentally ill.

Full text
Abstract:
Preterm infants encounter an abrupt delivery before their complete maturity during the third trimester of pregnancy. Polls anticipate an increase in the rates of preterm infants for 2025, especially in middle- and low-income countries. Despite the abundance of intensive care methods for preterm infants, such as, but not limited to, commercial, transport, embrace warmer, radiant warmer, and Kangaroo Mother Care methods, they are either expensive, lack the most essential requirements or specifications, or lack the maternal-preterm bond. This drove us to carry this original research and innovative idea of developing a new 3D printed prototype of a Handy preterm infant incubator. We aim to provide the most indispensable intensive care with the lowest cost, to bestow low-income countries with the Handy incubator’s care, preserve the maternal -preterm’s bond, and diminish the rate of mortality. Biomedical features, electronics, and biocompatible materials were utilized. The design was simulated, the prototype was 3D printed, and the outcomes were tested and evaluated. Simulation results showed the best fit for the Handy incubator’s components. Experimental results showed the 3D-printed prototype and the time elapsed to obtain it. Evaluation results revealed that the overall performance of Kangaroo Mother Care and the embrace warmer was 75 ± 1.4% and 66.7 ± 1.5%, respectively, while the overall performance of our Handy incubator was 91.7 ± 1.6%, thereby our cost-effective Handy incubator surpassed existing intensive care methods. The future step is associating the Handy incubator with more specifications and advancements.

Abstract:
Murilllo, Schrank, and Luna opened up Pandora’s Box. From time to time, scholars need to be warned about what they are doing. They sounded the alarm, and we who study or live in Latin America should thank them for calling us to reason. They are right to call our attention to our past. We are heirs of Hirschman, O’Donnell, Cardoso, and others. Moreover, as the mere reference to these names makes clear, we are members of a community in which political engagement is a must. Latin Americanists are politically committed to the future of the region they were born in or professionally adopted. We study this region because we care about the future of those who live in it.

Abstract:
Background: The transition from a fetus to a newborn is the most complex adaptation that occurs in human experience. This study assessed three physiological parameters viz. temperature (core and peripheral), oxygen saturation and heart rate so as to avoid the delay in normal transitional adaptation. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study was done at Narayana Medical College Hospital, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India. A total of 150 neonates born from June 2017 to February 2018 were monitored for heart rate, oxygen saturation, core and peripheral temperature from birth to 60 minutes. Results: Most of the mother’s (45.33%) were aged between 22 to 25 years and the mean age was 23.75±3.64 years. History of consanguineous marriage was noted in 33.33%. The mode of delivery was vaginal in 70.67% of the babies. The mean gestational age was 38.74±1.36 weeks. The birth weight among 62% of the babies was between 2.5 to 3.49 Kgs and mean birth weight was 2.81±0.49 kgs. The meconium stained liquor and requirement of resuscitation was noted in 9.33% and 10.67% respectively. Conclusions: Significant difference was noted with regard to heart rate in babies with active resuscitation, low birth weight (<2.5 kg), meconium stained liquor and warmer care compared to normal babies. There was variation in oxygen saturation in babies who required resuscitation and warmer care, and those who had low birth weight. The mean peripheral and core temperature were different in babies with abdominal care compared to warmer care.

Abstract:
Radiant warmers are widely used in hospital neonatal care departments. Particular requirements for the basic safety and essential performance of infant radiant warmers are regulated by EN 60601-2-21:2009 + A1:2016. This standard doesn’t include the maximal air flow value over the infant bed while the standard 60601-2-19:2009 describes the maximal air flow values for incubators. This study shows fluctuation of the air flow over the infant bed and it leads to think, that a more preventive care of infants ambient is needed in the system. Authors have investigated the impact of air barriers on direct air flow value. Studies show that barriers can significantly decrease air flow over infant’s bed and potentially lower infant’s t heat losses by convection on infant bed.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Self-medication is a wide spread behavior, particularly among elderly patients. Self-medication involves not only the consumption of over-the-counter products but also the re-use of formerly prescribed drugs without medical supervision. This practice may lead to severe adverse health events. Here we report a case of old female, presented with cushingoid face and hyperglycemia due to self-medication of high dose Prednisolone for longer duration. Symptomatic treatment was given to stabilize the patient. Patient was warned regarding the adverse effects of drugs and strictly advised to use medication only under medical supervision.

Abstract:
In recent years, many types of research have continued to improve the environment of human speech and emotion recognition. As facial emotion recognition has gradually matured through speech recognition, the result of this study provided more accurate recognition of complex human emotional performance, and speech emotion identification will be derived from human subjective interpretation into the use of computers to automatically interpret the speaker’s emotional expression. Focused on use in medical care, which can be used to understand the current feelings of physicians and patients during a visit, and improve the medical treatment through the relationship between illness and interaction. By transforming the voice data into a single observation segment per second, the first to the thirteenth dimensions of the frequency cestrum coefficients are used as speech emotion recognition eigenvalue vectors. Vectors for the eigenvalue vectors are maximum, minimum, average, median, and standard deviation, and there are 65 eigenvalues in total for the construction of an artificial neural network. The sentiment recognition system developed by the hospital is used as a comparison between the sentiment recognition results of the artificial neural network classification, and then use the foregoing results for a comprehensive analysis to understand the interaction between the doctor and the patient. Using this experimental module, the emotion recognition rate is 93.34%, and the accuracy rate of facial emotion recognition results can be 86.3%.
