Abstract:
The world has witnessed the digital transformation and Industry 4.0 technologies in the past decade. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of automation and digitalization in certain areas of the manufacturing industry; in particular, warehouse automation often has challenges in design and successful deployment. The effective management of the warehouse and inventory plays a pivotal role in the supply chain and production. In the literature, different architectures of Warehouse Management Systems (WMSs) and automation techniques have been proposed, but most of those have focused only on particular sections of warehouses and have lacked successful deployment. To achieve the goal of process automation, we propose an Internet-of-Things (IoT)-based architecture for real-time warehouse management by dividing the warehouse into multiple domains. Architecture viewpoints were used to present models based on the context diagram, functional view, and operational view specifically catering to the needs of the stakeholders. In addition, we present a generic IoT-based prototype system that enables efficient data collection and transmission in the proposed architecture. Finally, the developed IoT-based solution was deployed in the warehouse of a textile factory for validation testing, and the results are discussed. A comparison of the key performance parameters such as system resilience, efficiency, and latency rate showed the effectiveness of our proposed IoT-based WMS architecture.

Abstract:
Abstract The utilization of data warehouses in various fields is an absolute necessity. A data warehouse is a database that contains large amounts of data that aims to help organizations, fields, and institutions specifically for decision making. Data warehouses can produce important information in the future. Loading data from various sources and processed through an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process that displays data consistently is the basis for creating a data warehouse architecture. The development of a data warehouse in education will provide significant benefits for the progress of education. Integration of data and processing results stored in the data warehouse can be the basis for evaluating better planning. Development of data warehouse adopt the multidimensional modelling method which consists of four stages: select the business process, declare the grain, select dimensions, and identify facts. This stage produces a data warehouse architecture and influences and contributes to the advanced information technology in education.

Abstract:
In this vision paper, the authors discuss models and techniques for integrating, processing and querying data, information and knowledge within data warehouses in a user-centric manner. The user-centric emphasis allows us to achieve a number of clear advantages with respect to classical data warehouse architectures, whose most relevant ones are the following: (i) a unified and meaningful representation of multidimensional data and knowledge patterns throughout the data warehouse layers (i.e., loading, storage, metadata, etc); (ii) advanced query mechanisms and guidance that are capable of extracting targeted information and knowledge by means of innovative information retrieval and data mining techniques. Following this main framework, the authors first outline the importance of knowledge representation and management in data warehouses, where knowledge is expressed by existing ontology or patterns discovered from data. Then, the authors propose a user-centric architecture for OLAP query processing, which is the typical applicative interface to data warehouse systems. Finally, the authors propose insights towards cooperative query answering that make use of knowledge management principles and exploit the peculiarities of data warehouses (e.g., multidimensionality, multi-resolution, and so forth).

Abstract:
Until recently, the issue of analytical data was related to Data Warehouse, but due to the necessity of analyzing new types of unstructured data, both repetitive and non-repetitive, Big Data arises. Although this subject has been widely studied, there is not available a reference architecture for Big Data systems involved with the processing of large volumes of raw data, aggregated and non-aggregated. There are not complete proposals for managing the lifecycle of data or standardized terminology, even less a methodology supporting the design and development of that architecture. There are architectures in small-scale, industrial and product-oriented, which limit their scope to solutions for a company or group of companies, focused on technology but omitting the functionality. This paper explores the requirements for the formulation of an architectural model that supports the analysis and management of data: structured, repetitive and non-repetitive unstructured; there are some architectural proposals –industrial or technological type– to propose a logical model of multi-layered tiered architecture, which aims to respond to the requirements covering both Data Warehouse and Big Data.

Abstract:
We propose a multi-agent simulation environment for logistics warehouses. Simulation is a crucial part of designing industrial systems, such as logistics warehouses. A warehouse is a multi-agent system (MAS) that consists of various autonomous subsystems with robots, material-handling equipment, and human workers. It is generally difficult to analyze the performance of a MAS thus, it is important to model a warehouse and conduct simulations to design and evaluate the possible system configurations. However, the cost of modeling warehouses and modifying the models is high because there are various components and interactions compared to conventional multi-agent simulations. We proposed a self-contained agent architecture and message architecture of a multi-agent simulation environment for logistics warehouses to reduce the simulation-model development and modification costs. We quantitatively evaluated our environment in terms of development costs by comparing such costs of our environment and a widely used multi-agent simulation environment.

Abstract:
This paper examines tobacco warehouses in the southern United States as sites of both work and play. Using a performative approach in the study of architecture that is rooted in folklife methodology, the essay claims these quotidian working structures as places of celebratory potential amid the strictures of Jim Crow spatial segregation. In particular, it focuses on a series of massive dances held in the elaborately decorated warehouses during the early-to-mid-20th century. During these dances, Black celebrants turned the restrictive social and economic working spaces of the tobacco warehouse into places of radical potential and pleasure. The claims of this essay are supported by both conventional architectural documentation and the oral testimonies of a variety of tobacco workers, musicians, and dancers, who made use of the warehouses for a variety of often conflicting purposes. Told together, their narratives emphasize both spatialized resistance to segregation, and the importance of the ephemeral archives of individual stories and memories to the study of vernacular architectural history.

Abstract:
A data warehouse is considered a key aspect of success for any decision support system. Research on temporal databases have produced important results in this field, and data warehouses, which store historical data, can clearly benefit from such studies. A slowly changing dimension is a dimension in which any of its attributes in a data warehouse can change infrequently over time. Although different solutions have been proposed, each has its own particular disadvantages. The authors propose the Object-Relational Temporal Data Warehouse (O-RTDW) model for the slowly changing dimensions in this research work. Using this approach, it is possible to keep track of the whole history of an object in a data warehouse efficiently. The proposed model has been implemented on a real data set and tested successfully. Several limitations implied in other solutions, such as redundancy, surrogate keys, incomplete historical data, and creation of additional tables are not present in our solution.

Abstract:
The emergence of new digital industrial technology, known as Industry 4.0, has a positiveimpact on the performance of the supply chain. Warehouses are a basic part of the supply chain;they are used to store products and manage the inventory level. A sound warehouse managementsystem can lead to cost reduction and also can improve customer satisfaction. Traditionalwarehouse management models have become less efficient and unsuitable for today’s increasingmarket requirements. For the past decades, information and communication technology has beenused for warehouse management. This paper presents a new approach for warehouse managementby utilizing one of the main pillars of Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things. This new technologyenables the connection of several objects through collecting real-time data and sharing them; theresulting information can then be used to support automated decision-making. The architecture ofthis application is illustrated and its potential benefits are overviewed. A framework is proposed toimplement this approach in warehousing management, which can help in providing real-timevisibility of everything in the warehouse, increasing speed and efficiency, and preventing inventoryshortage and counterfeiting. This proposal gives an effective roadmap for enterprises to improvetheir warehouses by using the Internet of Things.

Abstract:
This article describes how the evaluation of modern data warehouses considers new solutions adopted for facing the radical changes caused by the necessity of reducing the storage volume, while increasing the velocity in multidimensional design and data elaboration, even in presence of unstructured data that are useful for providing qualitative information. The aim is to set up a framework for the evaluation of the physical and methodological characteristics of a data warehouse, realized by considering the factors that affect the data warehouse's lifecycle when taking into account the Big Data issues (Volume, Velocity, Variety, Value, and Veracity). The contribution is the definition of a set of criteria for classifying Big Data Warehouses on the basis of their methodological characteristics. Based on these criteria, the authors defined a set of metrics for measuring the quality of Big Data Warehouses in reference to the design specifications. They show through a case study how the proposed metrics are able to check the eligibility of methodologies falling in different classes in the Big Data context.

Abstract:
In the era of Big Data, more and more stream data is available. In the same way, Decision Support Systems (DSS) tools, such as data warehouses and alert systems, become more and more sophisticated, and conceptual modeling tools are consequently mandatory for successfully DSS projects. Formalisms such as UML and ER have been widely used in the context of classical information and data warehouse systems, but they have not been investigated yet for stream data warehouses to deal with alert systems. Therefore, in this article, the authors introduce the notion of Active Stream Data Warehouse (ASDW) and this article proposes a UML profile for designing Active Stream Data Warehouses. Indeed, this article extends the ICSOLAP profile to take into account continuous and window OLAP queries. Moreover, this article studies the duality of the stream and OLAP decision-making process and the authors propose a set of ECA rules to automatically trigger OLAP operators. The UML profile is implemented in a new OLAP architecture, and it is validated using an environmental case study concerning the wind monitoring.

Abstract:
The increase in e-commerce and omnichannel commerce is having a significant impact on the supply chain sector and its warehouses. Fluctuations in demand and priorities, the requirement for value-added service, government regulations and other factors put pressure on the operational decision makers on the warehouse floor and the systems that support them. The increasing complexity of daily warehouse operations means that decision support systems will need to become more sophisticated and intelligent to assist decision makers in real-time. The aim of this literature review is to investigate how decision support in warehousing and distribution operations is examined in the research literature. The objective of this review is to understand how this decision support research can assist operational decision makers to manage and complete the daily volume of work through the warehouse. Fifty-one articles were obtained by the literature search. Articles were categorized by type of warehouse, decision support target, operational task and problem type, research article methodology, architecture and technology. Decision support is examined in almost all areas of warehousing operations with the use of a variety of methods and technologies within the research literature. Most “daily warehouse operational” decision support deals with expertise transfer and reacting to real-time events. This paper highlights the lack of research into human–machine collaboration in adaptive decision support systems to assist warehouse operational decision makers.

With the maturity of crowdsourcing systems, new analysis possibilities appear where volunteers play a crucial role by bringing the implicit knowledge issued from practical and daily experience. At the same time, data warehouse and OLAP systems represent the first citizen of decision-support systems. They allow analyzing a huge volume of data according to the multidimensional model. The more the multidimensional model reflects the decision-makers' analysis needs, the more the DW project is successful. However, when volunteers are involved in the design of DWs, existing DW design methodologies present some limitations. In this work, the authors present the main features of volunteer data warehouse (VDW) design, and they study the main existing DW design methodology to find out how they can contribute to fulfil the features needed by this particular DW approach. To provide a formal framework to classify existing work, they provide a study of differences between classical DW users and volunteers. The paper also presents a set of open issues for VDW.

Abstract:
The article addresses the problem of redistribution of warehouse resources when working in a virtual organization or when changing the logistics structure of the enterprise. A two-stage model of providing warehouse resources to a common access to participants of a virtual en-terprise is considered. An automated system for managing redistribution of resources for the stage of disconnecting from a virtual enterprise or when closing your own warehouses was developed. A description of the control object - a distributed warehouse system of an industrial enterprise specializing in the production of sheet metal. A formalized description of the technological process for the production of cold-rolled steel, including the stages of stockpiling, has been developed. The task of managing the distribution of resources is posed, the functional structure of the software complex is designed. Information, mathematical and algorithmic support for solving the problem of redistributing resources is presented. The architecture of information support includes a database containing regulatory and reference information and document management of the enterprise. The database information is used by the algorithmic support of four functional modules: management of normative and reference information, management of receipts and sales, management of warehouse movements, management of multi-turn packaging. The result of the work is presented by the system of dynamic redistribution of warehouse resources and implemented on the 1C: Enterprise platform, which allows solving the problems of the operational movement of material resources between the enterprise’s warehouses, also under the conditions of the virtual enterprise functioning. Absolute and relative distribution criteria are formed. The first group includes absolute criteria: volume, quantity, amount, weight. The second group consists of relative distribution criteria: quantity/volume, amount/volume, weight/volume. Testing the system using the example of criteria from each group showed the operability of all types of support using the example of a warehouse complex of an enterprise manufacturing metal rolling. Flexible customizable system structure allows you to expand the application of the proposed algorithmic support to other types of resources.

Abstract:
AbstractPropose the data warehouse architecture as a reference to be applied in libraries. This proposal has began with the concern about the large amount of information existing in these sectors, at the operational, managerial and strategic levels, and as an effective way to generate historical information of collection, customers (users) and costs, for decision making processes. Through literature review about data warehouse architecture, it is presented the architecture proposed by Ralph Kimball, in a dimensional scheme, taking as example the process of "acquisition". It is expected that libraries can use this architecture to obtain analytical results similar to those of companies that already make use of such technology.

Abstract:
A data warehouse (DW) is a vast repository of data that facilitates decision-making for businesses and companies. This concept dates back to the 1980s and it has been widely accepted. One of the key points for the success of the process of data warehousing lies in the definition of the warehouse model depending on data sources and analysis needs. Once the data warehouse is designed, the content and structure of the data sources, as well as the requirements analysis are required to evolve, therefore, an evolution of the model must take place (diagram and data). In this context, several approaches have been developed to design and implement data warehouses. Nevertheless, there is no standard process that deals with designing all of the data warehouse layers, also, there is no software that encompasses this type of problem. In general, the majority of these approaches focus on a particular aspect of data warehouse such as data storage, ETL process, OLAP, reporting, etc, and does not cover its entire lifecycle. A Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) is a standard approach, its aims to support all phases of software manufacturing by promoting the use of models and the transformations between them. Moreover, this approach aims to automate the process of software engineering, thereby decreasing the cost of software development and enhancing its productivity. In this study, we present a systematic review of various works on the data warehouse design methods. We compare and discuss these works according to the criteria that seem relevant for this issue. We present a new design approach for multidimensional schemas construction from relational models using MDA techniques, we also develop the resulting research perspectives.

Abstract:
Over the past decade, the concept of data warehousing has been widely accepted. The main reason for building data warehouses is to improve the quality of information in order to achieve specific business objectives such as competitive advantage or improved decision-making. However, there is no formal method for deriving a multidimensional schema from heterogeneous databases that is recognized as a standard by the OMG and the professionals of the field. Which is why, in this paper, we present a model-driven approach (MDA) for the design of data warehouses. To apply the MDA approach to the Data warehouse construction process, we describe a multidimensional meta-model and specify a set of transformations from a UML meta-model which is mapped to a multidimensional meta-model. The transformation rules are programmed by the Query View Transformation (QVT) language. A case study illustrates our approach. It demonstrates how it reinforces the components traceability and reusability and how it globally improves the modeler’s efficiency. Furthermore, the use of the UML, as a technique to build data warehouses, is an important facilitator which prepares our further work to automate this approach.

Abstract:
Background The growing availability of clinical and administrative data collected in electronic health records (EHRs) have led researchers and policy makers to implement data warehouses to improve the reuse of EHR data for secondary purposes. This approach can take advantages from a unique source of information that collects data from providers across multiple organizations. Moreover, the development of a data warehouse benefits from the standards adopted to exchange data provided by heterogeneous systems. Objective This article aims to design and implement a conceptual framework that semiautomatically extracts information collected in Health Level 7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) documents stored in an EHR and transforms them to be loaded in a target data warehouse. Results The solution adopted in this article supports the integration of the EHR as an operational data store in a data warehouse infrastructure. Moreover, data structure of EHR clinical documents and the data warehouse modeling schemas are analyzed to define a semiautomatic framework that maps the primitives of the CDA with the concepts of the dimensional model. The case study successfully tests this approach. Conclusion The proposed solution guarantees data quality using structured documents already integrated in a large-scale infrastructure, with a timely updated information flow. It ensures data integrity and consistency and has the advantage to be based on a sample size that covers a broad target population. Moreover, the use of CDAs simplifies the definition of extract, transform, and load tools through the adoption of a conceptual framework that load the information stored in the CDA in the data warehouse.

The emergence of mobile computing environments brings out various changes in the requirements and applications involving distributed data and has made the traditional Intelligent Decision Support System (IDSS) architectures based on the client/server model ineffective in mobile computing environments. This paper discusses the deficiencies of the current IDSS architectures based on data warehouse, on-line analysis processing (OLAP), model base (MB) and knowledge based (KB) technologies. By adopting the agent technology, the paper extends the IDSS system architecture to the Mobile Decision Support System (MDSS) architecture. The logical structure and the application architecture of the MDSS and the mechanisms and implementation strategies of the User Access Agent System, a major component of the MDSS, are described in this paper.

Abstract:
In a typical BI infrastructure, data, extracted from operational data sources, is transformed, cleansed, and loaded into a data warehouse by a periodic ETL process, typically executed on a nightly basis, i.e., a full day’s worth of data is processed and loaded during off-hours. However, it is desirable to have fresher data for business insights at near real-time. To this end, the authors propose to leverage a data warehouse’s capability to directly import raw, unprocessed records and defer the transformation and data cleaning until needed by pending reports. At that time, the database’s own processing mechanisms can be deployed to process the data on-demand. Event-processing capabilities are seamlessly woven into our proposed architecture. Besides outlining an overall architecture, the authors also developed a roadmap for implementing a complete prototype using conventional database technology in the form of hierarchical materialized views.

Abstract:
Abstract Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence nowadays has become a necessity for every organization. Data analysis supports in making decisions and policies. The problem is the data warehouse management process, both related to ETL, data modelling, and data architecture, which results in the non-optimal and inefficient dashboard that wastes energy, as a data monitoring tool in displaying important information needed by the organization. This research was conducted by providing an assessment to the working group team in the data warehouse section using the Spruit & Sacu Data Warehouse Capability Maturity Model (DWCMM) to measure the maturity of the data warehouse at the National Narcotics Board. The results showed that the DWCMM maturity level is at the repeatable level, from the measurement results it can be seen that the worst DW category is in the Service Processes component so that many improvements need to be made to increase the DWCMM maturity level. As a recommendation, it is necessary to design a virtual integrated DW architecture that has real-time updates, data quality system, automatic synchronization of data modelling, standardization of metadata, realtime ETL monitoring management, closed-loop & BI real-time BI application, and improves the development process and process services in the management of DW/BI at BNN to become more efficient.

The data warehouse community has paid particular attention to the document warehouse (DocW) paradigm during the last two decades. However, some important issues related to the semantics are still pending and therefore need a deep research investigation. Indeed, the semantic exploitation of the DocW is not yet mature despite it representing a main concern for decision-makers. This paper aims to enhancing the multidimensional model called Diamond Document Warehouse Model with semantics aspects; in particular, it suggests semantic OLAP (on-line analytical processing) operators for querying the DocW.
