Abstract:
A new set of Walsh functions is defined in terms of the split-matrix ordering. The intrinsic properties of the functions are analyzed. The relationship and the associated conversion rules between the newly defined functions and other typical Walsh functions are discussed. It is shown that the proposed Walsh functions provide a straighforward and efficient algorithm for fast Discrete Walsh Transformation.

The statistical properties of chaotic binary sequences generated by the Bernoulli map and Walsh functions are discussed. The Walsh functions are based on a 2 k × 2 k Hadamard matrix. For general k (= 1 , 2 , ⋯ ), we will prove that 2 k - 1 Walsh functions can generate essentially different balanced and i.i.d. binary sequences that are orthogonal to each other.

Abstract:
Background: In Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)/Multi-Carrier CDMA (MCCDMA), Walsh-Hadamard codes are widely used for its orthogonal characteristics, and hence, it leads to good contextual connection property. These orthogonal codes are important because of their various significant applications. Objective: To use the Mach–Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) for all-optical Walsh-Hadamard codes is implemented in this present paper. Method: The Mach–Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) is considered for the Tree architecture of Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA). The second-ordered Hadamard and the inverse Hadamard matrix are constructed using SOA-MZIs. Higher-order Hadamard matrix (H4) formed by the process of Kronecker product with lower-order Hadamard matrix (H2) is also analyzed and constructed. Results: To experimentally get the result from these schemes, some design issues e,g Time delay, nonlinear phase modulation, extinction ratio, and synchronization of signals are the important issues. Lasers of wavelength 1552 nm and 1534 nm can be used as input and control signals, respectively. As the whole system is digital, intensity losses due to couplers in the interconnecting stage may not create many problems in producing the desired optical bits at the output. The simulation results were obtained by Matlab-9. Here, Hadamard H2 (2×2) matrix output beam intensity (I ≈ 108 w.m-2) for different values of inputs. Conclusion: Implementation of Walsh-Hadamard codes using MZI is explored in this paper, and experimental results show the better performance of the proposed scheme compared to recently reported methods using electronic circuits regarding the issues of versatility, reconfigurability, and compactness. The design can be used and extended for diverse applications for which Walsh-Hadamard codes are required.

Abstract:
Abstract The problem of how to find a sparse representation of a signal is an important one in applied and computational harmonic analysis. It is closely related to the problem of how to reconstruct a sparse vector from its projection in a much lower-dimensional vector space. This is the setting of compressed sensing, where the projection is given by a matrix with many more columns than rows. We introduce a class of random matrices that can be used to reconstruct sparse vectors in this paradigm. These matrices satisfy the restricted isometry property with overwhelming probability. We also discuss an application in dimensionality reduction where we initially discovered this class of matrices.

Abstract:
Dealing with secure computation and communication in hardware devices, an attacker that threatens to security of the systems can be of two different types. The first type of attacker is external to the exchange of secret messages and tries to steal some sensitive information. Probing a circuit is a useful technique through which an attacker can derive information correlated with the secret manipulated by a cryptographic circuit. Probing security is the branch of research that tries to devise models, tools and countermeasures against this type of attacks. We define a new methodology that allows to determine if a gadget (i.e., a portion of a circuit) is secure against probing attacks. Moreover, we reason about composability of gadgets, in such a way that also this composition is probing secure. The reasoning is extended also to the case in which glitches are considered, namely when the attacks are mounted when timing hazards are present. The proposed methodology is based on the construction of the Walsh matrix of a Boolean function that describes the operations of the circuit. This method allows reaching an exact solution, but generally needs a lot of computation’s time (mainly for big gadgets). To overcome the problem, we propose to compute the Walsh matrix exploiting the theory and applications of Algebraic Decision Diagrams (ADDs). Different is the case when the malicious part is internal: each party is interested in protecting its own sensitive information from all the others. When the parties are only two, from literature the garbled circuit protocol is a solution that allows to reach a result implying some secrets, without sharing them. The cost of this protocol depends on the number of extit{and} gates in the circuit that implements the Boolean function describing the protocol computations. In this context, we work to reduce the number of multiplications in two classes of particular Boolean functions, called autosymmetric and D-reducible. Moreover, in the context of the garbled circuit protocol, we discuss some innovative solutions to further reduce the protocol's costs, as the application of the 3-valued logic. This logic is an extension of the Boolean one, resulting from the addition of a new element to the set Boolean set ${0,1}$.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Orthogonal functions can be integrated using a so-called operational matrix. This characteristic transforms a set of second order differential equations into algebraic equations which are easily solved. In the case of mechanical systems the unknown parameters can be determined from these algebraic equations. For this purpose, the input and output signals have to be expanded in time orthogonal functions. This technique can be also applied for sensitivity analysis. In this paper Fourier series, Legendre polynomials, Jacobi polynomials, Chebyshev series, Block-Pulse functions and Walsh functions are used to expand the signals as time functions.

Abstract:
The WR21 Intercooled Recuperated (ICR) Gas Turbine Engine is being developed as the prime power plant for future US and Foreign Navy ship applications. The development test program started in July 1994 and is still ongoing. One of the many challenges of the ICR design is the development of the compressors and intercooler (IC) wash system. The integration of the IC between the intermediate pressure compressor (IPC) and high pressure compressor (HPC) is unique to current US Navy applications and has introduced new design considerations from traditional wash development programs that must be addressed. Significant increase in wetted surface area of the heat exchanger (HX) matrix and the radial flow are two design aspects unique to the WR21. This paper reviews the design of the WR21 engine and the challenges it offers to developing both crank and on-line compressor/IC wash systems. The baseline design of the water wash systems are discussed, in addition to the water wash test program and its integration into the overall WR2I development program. Details are also given of the off-engine wash delivery system and salt injection systems in place at the test site. Crank wash test results to date are also presented.

Abstract:
All incineration and other thermal treatment technologies produce flue gas treatment residues (FGTR) that require specialised treatment and disposal. In the United Kingdom the FGTR arising from municipal solid waste incineration is classified as a hazardous (special) waste. This is primarily due to the irritant properties of chloride, but also due to the content of heavy metals. These wastes must be handled, transported & disposed of in accordance with the Special Waste Regulations 1996 and are disposed into highly engineered landfill sites, which isolate the material from the environment. The low levels of trace elements in the FGTR mean that the recycling of the metallic elements is not economic. Control through stabilisation and encapsulation in a crystalline matrix converts the FGTR primary form from a powder into solid block form. The use of a novel metal matrix encapsulation (MME) process allows low level engineering processes to be employed, increasing a range of reuse options combined with long-term improved storage.

Abstract:
A very basic problem in manufacturing advanced composites is the occurrence of defects, such as voids, delamination, resin rich areas, distorted fibers and foreign material inclusions. Of these defects, voids are the unavoidable defects mostly coming from a variety of reasons, including resin type, poor vacuum source, air entrapment, leakage of vacuum bag and by-products formed during the curing cycle of laminates. These voids seriously affect the mechanical properties of composite panels, and cause severe damages during the service. In the present study, various destructive testing techniques, such as visual, burn-out or ignition loss of cured composites, image analysis and matrix digestion or acid digestive were used on advanced composite panels at various porosity levels (e.g., 0–2%, 3–6% and greater than 7%), and the obtained results were compared each other. Also, testing parameters were optimized using the standard samples to achieve maximum possible error free data of voids, fiber volume, fiber wash, inter laminar and trans laminar cracks, miss-oriented fibers, lay-up orders and latent defects. Optimization of parameters was performed using the design of experiments. We determined that the test results were significantly changed based on the test techniques, composite samples, as well as testing time, operator skill, cost of experimentation, initial equipment cost, pre and post treatments and lack of standardized testing patterns.

1MAC principles were used to investigate the binding of Factor VIII/vWF from either Al(OH)3 - absorbed citrated PPP or cryoprecipitate using citrate-saline buffers. Factor VIII/ vWF showed high affinity for both Zn2+ - or Cu2+ - immobilised on biscarboxymethylaminoSepharose 4B at ambient room temperature, but no interaction with Ca2+, Mg2+, Mn2+ or Cd2+ - immobilised matrices.Factor VIII/vWF could be re-eluted as a single component from Zn2+ - columns using either decreasing pK, or increasing competitor ligandconcentrations. In pK gradients comprising 14mM citrate, 2.14mM CaCl2, 0.15m NaCl Factor VIII eluted at pH 6.50, whereas in pH gradients comprising 0.1m Tris, 2.5mM CaCl2 pH 7.5 and 0.1M succinate, 2.5mM CaCl2 pH 5.5 Factor VIII eluted at pH 6.06. Citrate behaves as a competitor ligand; at 4° in citrate buffer Factor VIII did not bind.In citrate-saline buffers pH 7.2 Factor VIII could be reeluted in high yield (100% Factor VIII:Ag; 70% VIII:C; 90% vWF:Ag) through application of linear competitor ligand gradients (at 11.5mM imidazole, 15.4mM dl-Eistidine, 45mM L-Lysine, or 1.7% BSA) , whereas 1.0M NaCl or 1.0M NH4Cl were ineffective. The Factor VIII activities co-eluted ahead of, but incompletely resolved from the re-eluted Fg and Fn. If 5 mg/ml. BSA was incorporated into the buffers Factor VIII was quantitatively recovered in the column wash - through fractions leaving all the Fg and Fn bound to the matrix.

Abstract:
Abstract Malaysia's government recognizes the high risk that aging idle wells pose to its health, safety and environment and has developed some of the most stringent plug and abandonment, P&A, regulations to protect its future. Corroded casing strings and sustained casing pressure are common issues on its multi-decade old platforms and a risk-based design philosophy has been adopted to balance risk mitigation and operational costs, while still ensuring an eternal barrier. Both conventional rigs as well as rigless hydraulic workover units, HWU, are being used for P&A operations. This study considers the barrier element rationale applied in four offshore wells that were plug and abandoned by cap-rock restoration Perforate, Wash, Cement, PWC, barrier plugs. It also considers the operating window of a jet-based PWC technology to understand the challenges and opportunities for further optimization during HWU operations. Cap rock restoration utilizing both cup-based and jet-based PWC technology is being widely applied throughout Malaysia as a cost-effective alternative to casing section milled barrier plugs. Malaysia's P&A regulation allows isolation at the cap rock level, whereby "Contractor shall adhere to the Cap-Rock Abandonment Applicability Flowchart to identify technically and commercially acceptable candidates for this well abandonment method." The PWC method enables cap rock restoration in a single trip process; whereby the casing annulus is accessed by TCP guns to allow for annular debris to be effectively washed prior to cement plug placement. The process is not limited only to TCP guns; as a mechanical casing perforator was utilized in a shallow cased hole section of one of the wells to avoid damaging the outer casing. A custom BHA was developed and tested to match the cuts from the mechanical perforator. Specially oriented, rotating, wash jets were configured to maximize the annular access during the washing process. The washing effectiveness of this new BHA was confirmed by the massive amount of annular debris that was observed over the surface shakers. Operations were conducted offshore with a HWU with limited infrastructure and operating capability compared to a conventional rig. A PWC candidate screening matrix was applied early during the planning phase to manage rig limitation, well condition and operational risk to ensure successful barrier placement. All cap rock barriers were successfully installed and tested, and no sustained annular pressure remained in any of the wells. Fewer PWC plugs were required than originally planned, due to strict adherence to the Caprock Restoration Plan Decision Tree, resulting in significant cost savings for the project. The detailed time breakdown of the HWU operations provides useful insight into the operational efficiencies and unplanned events during the HWU campaign and lessons learned are shared from the project.
