Abstract:
Abstract. An assessment of the influence of using digital terrestrial photogrammetry for surveying and documentation of cultural objects is presented in this paper. The approaches including digital image enhancement, digital rectification and restitution, feature extraction for the creation of a three-dimension geographical information system model from the photogrammetric record and the computer visualisation of cultural monuments. Manual three-dimension processing of terrestrial images using analogue photogrammetric procedures is slow, can register little information and has limited application and cannot be re-examined if the information desired is not directly presented. In addition, it is a very time-consuming task and requires the skill of qualified personnel. It seems there is a need for an environment-based information system with the ability to display precise and measurable imagery for use of the architectural and archaeological information system by integrating digital photogrammetry and AutoCAD facilities as applicable to support the reconstruction of many cultural heritage places. Architectural structuring and guidelines can be used to develop invaluable historical monuments in Iran such as the Great Wall of Gorgan. While the research is in completion, the output of the Great Wall of Gorgan can be documented and recorded in the world.

Abstract:
The study investigates the mental well-being of 35 women prisoners (mean age = 28.7, SD = 7.6) who all had received the capital punishment, in the Gorgan jail, northeastern Iran. Most of them had received their sentence for killing their husband. A control sample of 35 women of the same age from Gorgan was included. The respondents filled in a paper-and-pencil questionnaire. The imprisoned women scored higher than the controls on aggression, anxiety, and hostility; the controls scored higher than the imprisoned women on social support and emotional self-efficacy. The imprisoned women had, to a greater extent than the controls, a family history with addiction problems and suicidality.

Abstract:
Introduction: The incidence rate of Intra-Ventricular Haemorrhage (IVH) varies from 20% to 25% among preterm infants with a very low birth weight. IVH could compose critical disabilities which are directly associated to its grade. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence and severity of IVH in preterm infants referred to the academic Hospital of Gorgan, Northeast of Iran.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we examined all preterm infants who had been referred to the academic Hospital of Gorgan, Northeast of Iran between Augusts 2014 and February 2015. Seventy one preterm infants (≤34 weeks of gestation, ≤1500g birth weight) have been included. Cranial ultrasound was done within 3-5 days of birth for all subjects and subsequent ultrasounds were performed based on their birth weight by portable ultrasound device. Results: The overall incidence of IVH was 64.8% in the present study. There was a significant relationship between IVH incidence and the gestational age (p=0.010). Also the lower birth weight was associated to the higher rate of IVH complications reported in sequential ultrasounds (p<0.05).Conclusion: Gestational age and birth weight seem to have key roles in the occurrence and severity of IVH, respectively.J Nepal Paediatr Soc 2016;36(1):38-41

Abstract:
Background. Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. According to the Iranian Ministry of Medical Health and Education, out of 100,000 stroke incidents in the country, 25,000 lead to death. Thus, identifying risk factors of stroke can help healthcare providers to establish prevention strategies. This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of stroke risk factors and their distribution based on stroke subtypes in Sayad Shirazi Hospital, Gorgan, Northeastern Iran. Material and Methods. A retrospective hospital-based study was conducted at Sayad Shirazi Hospital in Gorgan, the only referral university hospital for stroke patients in Gorgan city. All medical records with a diagnosis of stroke were identified based on the International Classification of Diseases, Revision 10, from August 23, 2015, to August 22, 2016. A valid and reliable data gathering form was used to capture data about demographics, diagnostics, lifestyle, risk factors, and medical history. Results. Out of 375 cases, two-thirds were marked with ischemic stroke with mean ages (standard deviation) of 66.4 (14.2) for men and 64.6 (14.2) for women. The relationship between stroke subtypes and age groups (P=0.008) and hospital outcome (P=0.0001) was significant. Multiple regression analysis showed that hypertension (Exp. (B) =1.755, P=0.037), diabetes mellitus (Exp. (B) =0.532, P=0.021), and dyslipidemia (Exp. (B) =2.325, P=0.004) significantly increased the risk of ischemic stroke. Conclusion. Overall, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia were the major risk factors of stroke in Gorgan. Establishment of stroke registry (population- or hospital-based) for the province is recommended.

Abstract:
Abstract This study developed a hydrodynamic reduced-order model (ROM) to regenerate surface currents in Gorgan Bay, Iran. The developed ROM was based on linking a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model, MIKE3-FM, with a data reduction technique, proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). The MIKE3-FM model was first run to simulate surface currents in the bay under a real wind scenario for two years starting July 1, 2010. Thereafter, time and space steps of 6 hours and 500 m, respectively, were chosen to capture 2,920 snapshots of the simulated surface currents using the MIKE3-FM model on 1,937 grids in the bay. The snapshots were then used as input for the POD model to develop the ROM. By applying the POD on the snapshots, necessary spatial and temporal components of surface currents used to develop the ROM were calculated. Having spatial and temporal terms, two ROMs for regeneration of surface currents U and V in two directions x and y, respectively, were developed. Analysis of ROM results revealed they accurately regenerated surface currents using only the first ten modes (among 2,920 modes). Comparison of MIKE3-FM and ROMs developed by the first ten modes revealed there were only negligible differences between their results when they simulated and regenerated, respectively, U and V, in the bay.

Abstract:
Fusarium verticillioides is one of the most prevalent Fusarium species on maize and sorghum, causing Fusarium ear rot and sorghum grain mold in warm and humid regions of Iran. The pathogen produces potent mycotoxins known as fumonisins. In order to determine mycotoxin (fumonisins) production on different maize and sorghum genotypes, a field trial was carried out based on a randomized complete block design with 10 treatments and three replications for each crop at Gorgan station in 2010. The ears of corn plants were inoculated by spore suspension of the mixture of some virulent F. verticillioides isolates using an ear inoculation method (Nail Punch). The sorghum panicles were also inoculated by spraying of spore suspension isolates at f lowering stage. All infected kernels were evaluated by ELISA kits (AgraQuant Fumonisin Kit; Romer Labs, Austria) for their total fumonisins production at the physiological maturing stage. All genotypes showed statistically significant difference in their fumonisin production in Gorgan. The results of fumonisins analysis obtained from ELISA test showed that lines 1 (Resistant) and 3 (Susceptible) with 2.4 ppm and 13.7 ppm had the least and highest amount of total fumonisins respectively among all maize genotypes. Also among all sorghum genotypes, genotypes 10 and 6 with 0.2 ppm and 4.8 ppm had the least and the highest amount of total fumonisins respectively. The results of this experiment demonstrated that fumonisin production level in maize kernels (maybe as maize kernels are the main host of this fungus) was significantly higher than sorghum kernels in Gorgan region.

Abstract:
Soil aggregate instability on unprotected roadside slopes can cause landslide, soil erosion and sedimentation. Different biological and chemical soil stabilizers are used to reinforce the instable slopes. In the present study, straw mulch and Polyacrylamide (PAM) combinations were investigated on a clay soil of road cutslope in campus of Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Gorgan, Iran. The selected cover treatments were Polyacrylamide (2, 3 and 4 g·m–2) with wheat straw mulch (50, 150 and 250 g·m–2) which was spread by hand to attain 75% groundcover on a 1:1 slope. After the three months, soil sampling was done to determine the changes in aggregate stability of soil. Results showed that the most efficient treatment with respect to mean weight diameter of soil aggregates in dry and wet sieving (MWDdry and MWDwet), aggregate stability index (AS) and aggregate destruction index (DI) was treatment of B (150 g·m–2 wheat straw mulch and 3 g·m–2 Polyacrylamide tackifier) with 34%, 68% and 47% increment in MWDdry, MWDwet and AS, respectively as well as 37% reduction in DI as compared to the bare soil control.
