Abstract:
The article analyzes flaming as a tool for a speech conflict inciting. The author backs up the idea that flaming as a mean of speech aggression appeared on the threshold of a new era due to the development of the mass media and computer-mediated communication in the Internet discourse. It is shown that flaming is actively used in combination with other forms of speech aggression in Internet discourse, such as trolling and cyberbullying. Phenomenon of «hate speech» is assigned a special role in flamewars. This term as the international legal practice shows, denotes the opposition of the subjects described in the text based on certain characteristics (race, language, religion, nationality, or belonging to any group) and inducement to violent actions that are carried out based on them. Using specific examples, the author attempts to classify flaming to reveal their strategic goals and to describe the tactics of discreditation illustrating the intent of the content creator. The work emphasizes the need to reveal the communicating tactics in the framework of forensic linguistics examination as well as deanonymization of the flaming content creators via forensic authorship examination.

Abstract:
Objective. The aim of this study was to compare the recycling of deboned ceramic brackets via an Er:YAG laser or via the traditional chairside processing methods of flaming and sandblasting; shear bond strength and morphological changes were evaluated in recycled brackets versus new brackets.Materials and Methods. 3M Clarity Self-Ligating Ceramic Brackets with a microcrystalline base were divided into groups subjected to flaming, sandblasting, or exposure to an Er:YAG laser. New ceramic brackets served as a control group. Shear bond strengths were determined with an Electroforce test machine and tested for statistical significance through analysis of variance. Morphological examinations of the recycled ceramic bracket bases were conducted with scanning electron microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. Residue on the bracket base was analyzed with Raman spectroscopy.Results. Faded, dark adhesive was left on recycled bracket bases processed via flaming. Adhesive was thoroughly removed by both sandblasting and exposure to an Er:YAG laser. Compared with new brackets, shear bond strength was lower after sandblasting (p<0.05), but not after exposure to an Er:YAG laser. The Er:YAG laser caused no damage to the bracket.Conclusion. Er:YAG lasers effectively remove adhesive from the bases of ceramic brackets without damaging them; thus, this method may be preferred over other recycling methods.

Abstract:
The severity of wildfires is increasing and has driven increases in nighttime fire activity. Enhanced capability to detect the active burning regions of wildfires at night could significantly improve the effectiveness of wildfire management operations. Potassium line emission in the NIR near 770 nm is a signature of active burning. We test the use of multi-band imaging from an aircraft at night to distinguish a wood-burning fire from artificial light sources. We find that a simple ratio of the signals in two broad bands, one including 770 nm, effectively discriminates the fire from artificial light sources. This offers the possibility of nighttime fire detection with high spatial resolution using silicon sensors sensitive in the NIR.

Abstract:
Red mud (bauxite residue) is an alkaline suspension that is the by-product of alumina production via the Bayer process. Its elevated annual production and the global inventory of red mud determine its valorisation. Granite can be used as a source of fluxing oxides for the ceramic industry, as can the flake-shaped waste generated during the flaming of granite. In this work, a set of ceramic pieces made of red mud and granite waste are prepared and characterised via X-ray diffraction, a hardness test, electron scanning microscopy, a leaching test, and determining open porosity, water absorption, bulk density and flexural strength of the samples. The main crystalline phases in the high-temperature fired products are hematite, pseudobrookite and anorthite; the presence of magnetite reveals their ferrimagnetic character. All samples present high mechanical properties. Leaching results are below critical levels established by regulations.

Abstract:
The role of various additives (emulsifier, anti-dripping agent) and formulation procedures (pre-dispersion of solid additives in polyol via milling) which influence the flame retardancy of 6,6′-[ethan-1,2-diylbis(azandiyl)]bis(6H-dibenzo[c,e][1,2]oxaphosphin-6-oxid) (EDA-DOPO) containing flexible polyurethane foams has been investigated in this work. For comparison, the flame retardancy of two additional structurally-analogous bridged 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO)-based compounds, i.e., ethanolamine-DOPO (ETA-DOPO) and ethylene glycol-DOPO (EG-DOPO) were also evaluated together with EDA-DOPO in flexible PU foams of various formulations. The flame retardancy of these three bridged-DOPO compounds depends on the type of PU formulation. For certain PU formulations containing EDA-DOPO, lower fire performance was observed. Addition of emulsifier and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to these PU formulations influenced positively the flame retardancy of EDA-DOPO/PU foams. In addition, dispersion of EDA-DOPO and PTFE via milling in polyol improved the flame retardancy of the PU foams. Mechanistic studies performed using a microscale combustion calorimeter (MCC) and its coupling to FTIR showed no difference in the combustion efficiency of the bridged-DOPO compounds in PU foams. From MCC experiments it can be concluded that these bridged-DOPO compounds and their decomposition products may work primarily in the gas phase as flame inhibitors. The physiochemical behavior of additives in PU formulation responsible for the improvement in the flame retardancy of PU foams was further investigated by studying the dripping behavior of the PU foams in the UL 94 HB test. A high-speed camera was used to study the dripping behavior in the UL 94 HB test and results indicate a considerable reduction of the total number of melt drips and flaming drips for the flame retardant formulations. This reduction in melt drips and flaming drips during the UL 94 HB tests help PU foams achieve higher fire classification.

Abstract:
The great building fervor that marked the Augustan Principate is still notably testified along the ancient consular road Flaminia. Several infrastructural remains, probably ascribable to the direct intervention of Augustus, are preserved especially in the Middle Adriatic region, between the east side of the Apennines and the Adriatic shore. In this area we can note that the well-known Roman towns of Pisaurum, Fanum Fortunae and Forum Sempronii, strictly tied to the Via Flaminia, show numerous archaeological evidences related to public structures of Augustan period. The research focused on three main topics: the landscape survey and the analyses of the infrastructural evidences along the Via Flaminia; the bibliographic investigation of Augustan architectonic complexes of Pisaurum and Fanum Fortunae; the study of the Forum area of Forum Sempronii. In this last site two Templar buildings have been discovered in the past two years and are still unpublished. A research chapter has been dedicated to the comparison between archaeological evidences and the Vitruvian norm, since that the illustrious architect worked in this area from the late-republican age to the beginning of the Augustan period. It has been noted that the Augustan intervention in the Middle Adriatic area has been very intense and characterized by the urban reorganization of the above mentioned Roman municipia. We can also add that in this towns the existence of buildings related to the celebration of Augustus and the imperial family is proved. This study, in the end, means to demonstrate how, in consequence of the previous support given by this region to M. Antonius, the Augustan activity in the Middle Adriatic area has been vigorous, in order to remark the authority of the Princeps.

Abstract:
Traditional archaeological research and virtual archaeology, parallel realities doomed never to meet! But, will it be true? In the last few years, the phenomenon of virtual archeology has seen a remarkable acceleration, especially by virtue of the fast development of technological tools, devices and systems it leans on and several different applications and purposes it is possible to attune it's outcomes in. However, such a success still hides discontents, misunderstandings and unsettled matter, confusion about positions, assignment, merits and responsibilities. Virtual archaeology is, indeed, an hybrid discipline, in which various experts, belonging to different scientific areas, with distinct working methodology, that only by cooperating and respecting each other can accomplish valiant goals. This thesis tells an experience, the fulfillment of a real virtual archaeology project, through each work phases carried out in the attempt to elaborate and propose a simple approach method to a complex operation. By analyzing every procedural steps and deepening some salient features, takes shape a strategy that can be found in the examples introduced, more in detail in the experimental project of virtual archaeology for the archaeological park of Forum Sempronii, achieved in the context of the activities scheduled by the Evolved Cultural District - Flaminia NextOne. The roman archaeological site, strictly connected to the ancient via Flaminia, over almost 50 years of research, has given back relevant historical evidences and precious archaeological finds. In recent times, aiming at the enhancement of archaeological emergencies and at a non-delayable technological upgrade, and intending to improve and increase the tourist experience, has been developed the project "Forum Sempronii". The traditional archaeological work (field research and excavation) has been combined with technologically advanced methodologies of investigation and documentation that, together with a careful analysis of sources, materials and comparisons, have made it possible to reach interesting goals. The consequent development of 3D models of selected areas of the roman city has provided an extremely useful working instrument in both scientific and dissemination field. A revised set-up and a scheduled maintenance plan of the park had also been studied, but the most relevant objective reached is the conception of a new, interactive and multimedia tourist itinerary, associate with an app for smartphone and tablet, especially created. The app, thanks to the system of small beacon placed near the most important points of interest of the site, will provide, directly on the mobile devices of the visitors, all the informations, and available contents, including two examples of augmented reality experience. Traditional archaeological research and virtual archaeology, apparently understanding is possible! It certainly takes effort and requires elasticity, intellectual honesty and mutual respect, but perhaps a meeting point exists!

MARTELLONI, LUISA. "Design and realization of an innovative automatic machine able to perform site-specific thermal weed control in maize." Doctoral thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/2158/851103.

Full text
Abstract:
This PhD thesis contains a detailed introduction on the state of the art of precision agriculture. The introduction is a brief guide to the technologies used in precision agriculture such as global navigation satellite system (GNSS), computer vision, remote and proximal sensors, Geographic Information System (GIS), Variable-Rate Application (VRA) and yield monitoring systems. In the introduction are also described in details the techniques for site-specific weed control and focuses on the most innovative methods for automatic detection and discrimination of crop and weeds, including the existing automatic or autonomous machines for precision chemical or physical weed management. The last chapter of the introduction concerns with a detailed description of the RHEA (Robot Fleets for Highly Effective Agriculture and Forestry Management) Project. The RHEA Project is really innovative as application of precision agriculture because focused on the design, development and testing of a fleet of heterogeneous and autonomous robots working together according to a proper use of innovative technologies. The first chapter of the experimental part of the thesis concerns with the description of the innovative automatic machine designed and realized within the RHEA Project at the University of Pisa in order to perform site-specific thermal weed control in maize. This implement is able to perform mechanical non-selective treatment in the inter-row space and site-specific flaming in the intra-row space of heat-tolerant crops. According to the Description of Work of the RHEA Project the machine was adjusted in order to properly work in maize planted at 0.75 m of inter-row. Preliminary tests in order to verify the management of actuation devices and sensors by the PLC, the coupling with the ground mobile unit and the integration with the perception system for weed and row detection (that make the machine autonomous) were satisfying, although further research activities are needed in order to optimize all the sub-systems and verify their integrated functioning. In the second chapter of the experimental part a research carried out at CiRAA “E. Avanzi” of the University of Pisa aiming to evaluate the field performances of the hoeing flaming system is described. The field trial aimed to test the tolerance of maize (Zea mays L.) to cross flaming and the effectiveness in weed control as influenced by LPG dose and maize growth stage at the time of treatment. The obtained results showed that maize flamed with cross burners proves to have a high heat tolerance even if treated with high LPG doses because, despite of the reduced growth observed during the first month after the treatment, plants successively recovered and produced as much as the untreated ones. Differences in maize yield were observed as a consequence of flaming effectiveness in controlling weeds according to their stage of development and the used LPG dose. As a matter of fact, dicot weeds at seedling stage are more sensitive than well developed plants and high LPG doses resulted in a higher weeding effect. Finally, it is possible to state that the future use in the field of the automatic machine realized within the RHEA Project, besides allowing to perform site-specific flaming, will assure to obtain satisfying levels of weed control and good results in terms of maize yield.

PALOMBI, CINZIA. Doctoral thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/11573/916748.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
More than the coupling of women with gay men in vocal music participation is the impenetrable work spouse relationships that occur between the preacher and the chief musician. Protected by compensation arrangements and confidentiality expectations that favor the pastor as boss, that coupling is the dominant relationship in African American Christian religiosity. With this in mind, I wonder what are the ways in which men’s collective participation in vocal music ministry has come to function as a form of eunuchoidism to handle women in churches, while granting access to men who are phallogocentrically oriented, at the very least via their servile affinity for phallomusicocentrism or multivalent male-centered music-making. Undoubtedly, there is a pervasive investment in men’s cocreation after their own kind, a creative enterprise that reasserts dominance and pre-eminence. The unspoken connections and privileges afforded through this system are beguiling to the very best of men.

Abstract:
The chapter presents an innovative way to improve the archaeological landscape, based on researches about Via Flaminia. This is an extraordinary land that collects layered remarkable characteristics i.e. archaeological evidences, historical and natural landscape, ancient and modern infrastructures. Documenting this appreciable heritage is mandatory to use cutting edge technologies of survey, integrated management of data and innovative communication systems. The final purpose is the heritage preservation and its long life. Although previous deep researches and several scientific surveys were carried out, a major lack is their fragmentary non-reusable nature. The regional project “Cultural Evolved District” Flaminia Nextone discusses best practices in culturally based development of this area. The methods are survey and analysis of architectural and archaeological heritage, supported by information technologies. As results, the chapter shows a catalogue of buildings survey, their semantic/ontological organization in a Cloud library (2D/3D) and several outputs collected in exhibitions.

Abstract:
Complex interactions between fuel structure and fire highly affects the fire spread efficiency and localized behaviour. Heterogeneous arrangement of the fuel coupled with variability in fuel characteristics can strengthen or hinder heat transfer efficiency, preheating of unburned fuel and consecutive ignition. In this study, we leverage recently developed non-intrusive unmanned aerial vehicle-based (UAV) methods to spatially resolved field-scale fire behaviour properties and compare them with the Canopy Height Model (CHM) derived from pre-burn lidar measurements. Rate of spread and flaming residence time are calculated and mapped from high-resolution overhead visible footages acquired during a four-hectare prescribed gorse fire. The proposed method allows for quantification of the influence of fuel structure spatial variation on fire behaviour properties by capturing localized fire front and burning time variations associated with negative (“gaps”) and positive (“bumps”) changes in canopy height. These findings are supported by results obtained from a novel fire flow visualization method based upon image velocimetry, described here for the first time. Complex fire flow is synthetised via 2D time-averaged motion streamlines and compared with CHM fuel structure. Results suggest that localized fire behaviour changes may be related to flow channelling effects induced by the presence of gaps, enhancing fire flow contact and overall heat transfer efficiency.

Abstract:
This chapter analyzes the seminal Italian representation of the gendering of redemption in “Rome,” the third episode of Roberto Rossellini’s Paisà (1946). It reads “Rome” in terms of its relationship to the novels All Thy Conquests (1946) and The Girl on the Via Flaminia (1949), by Alfred Hayes, a Rossellini collaborator who wrote the “Rome” episode. All three texts express sympathy for the Italian woman turned prostitute, at once an individual who faces material consequences and an allegory for the nation. They position her fall at the start of a national trajectory that masculinizes redemption: for Rossellini, the northern partisans who fall to their deaths at the end of Paisà; for Hayes, the soldier tourist who returns to postwar Italy in search of pleasure. Furthermore, All Thy Conquests points to the strategic use of melodrama in “Rome.” Set during the trial of Pietro Caruso, a fascist involved in the massacre at the Fosse Ardeatine near Rome, All Thy Conquestsexplicitly represents what Rossellini eschews. By focusing on the conventional gendered redemption narrative, Rossellini is able to repress the traumatic events surrounding the trial, when a Roman mob lynches Donato Carretta, a witness for the prosecution, threatening Italy’s redemption in the eyes of the world.

E-mail: giancarlo.salamone@uniroma1.it Keywords (3-5): Restructuring, Rome, Trastevere, process, reading method, tools, analysis in urban morphology Conference topics and scale: Tools of analysis in urban morphology Trastevere, the only area of the historic center of Rome (together with the Vatican / Borgo complex) located on the right side of the Tiber river, shows a morphological structure that depends on the pre-existing substrate, both road that typological, which was modified during the post-unity period by the establishment of the Tiber fronts and, above all, by the opening of Viale Trastevere. In the way of thinking about urban morphology as a scalar product of the factors that influence each other, in particular building typology, local structure, overall structure and territory, and that contribute together to generate an organism, it is therefore possible to read this part of the historical center as the last product, but not definitive, of a "process". The reading method on the consolidated structure, later renovated in a post-unification era, is based on the analysis of the most abundant building typology and on the permanence and derivations of local typological processes that led to the formulation of the “line house” in nineteenth-century line, the predominant building type of roman expansion in nineteenth-twentieth century. The reading of the restructuring, understood as synchronic action on the historical center, has been implemented instead by the analysis of synchronic variations at “line house” through the research of all projects registered for the edification of each block. Thus we can see how the blocks resulting from the transformation, in the logic of a restructuring "contromaglia" like the one for the opening of Viale Trastevere, will be the result of the disconnection of the existing blocks in which the building type adopted has had to adapt to a lower return situations: a reading of a synchronic action on a diachronic process that gives us the modern morphological apparatus.
