Abstract:
This research aims to examine the issue of bilingual learning ecosystems (BLE) in industry-based technology vocational schools. This study is interesting because it becomes an academic effort in overcoming learning difficulties in vocational school students, primarily in setting English learning time and mastering the particular skills of global competitive industrial technology. Using descriptive qualitative research that includes a series of observational data collection, interviews, and documentation, the authors discover the concept of BLE based on school perspective and BLE implementation in the learning process. This study concludes that BLE can be prepared in English and non-English courses by involving school biotic and abiotic elements through collaborative teaching. BLE also supports scientific integration in vocation learning at the secondary level, which has implications for increasing study hours and increasing enrichment of English material that is specific to industry technology vocation students outside of hours that have been scheduled. It is believed that BLE can support the achievement of enhancing English skills with specific goals as well.

Abstract:

Since 1980s, higher vocational education has always been influenced by general higher education mode in teaching. The English teaching mode of higher vocational education also follows English teaching mode of ordinary higher education. According to students' actual situation of higher vocational colleges, English teaching mode suitable for students in higher vocational colleges has not been summarized. As a whole, vocational English teaching still adopts traditional "cramming education" teaching mode. Most English teachers use PPT to give a lecture, while students listen lectures passively, with little classroom interaction between teachers and students. It cannot carry out the teaching model that students act as main body and teachers act as the supplement. There are many students in higher vocational English class, and these students have different English levels. Most higher vocational students have weak English foundation and have not a correct learning method. Many students have less vocabulary accumulation, and their pronunciation is not standard, so they dare not communicate with others in English. Thus, higher vocational English teaching must change traditional teaching mode, change teachers' role in class, improve students' enthusiasm for learning English, and meet educational reforms that focus on cultivation of innovative spirit and practical ability.

For higher vocational college students, English subject is a required course, although it does not belong to the category of professional courses, the cultivation of students’ English ability for the future development is of great significance. This study aimed to analyze the English subject in two vocational schools in Kota Langsa based on English for Specific Purposes (ESP) approach and how it was implemented in the classroom. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method. The two vocational schools involved in the research are Hotel Hospitality Management and Maritime Fishing Vessel Engineering. The data were gained from the teachers and students by conducting observation, interview, Focus Group Discusssion (FGD), and document analysis of syllabus and teaching materials. The data were analyzed by comparing the real condition of teaching-learning process and the ideal condition based on ESP approach. The finding showed that the two schools used General English (GE) frequently rather than ESP on English subject. Despite the common use of GE in these two schools, they had the option to adjust their English subject into ESP standard. One school had the ESP subject called English for Maritime and another school chose Mandarin subject as the option. As a result, the school only had GE for English subject. Thus, the English subject was taught and designed as English for General Purposes rather than English for Specific Purposes.

Abstract:
This research examined the honesty as part of character building in academic documents of English subject in Vocational high school. Using content analysis, the researcher analyzed the honesty throughout the documents. The data was words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and the pharaprashing of them. The data was taken from Vocational High School’s documents used by English teachers of vocational school. The finding showed that honesty appears explicitly and implicitly. All the aspects of character building of honesty were stipulated in syllabus provided by the government. The indicators of honesty that appear in the lesson plan, learning material, and assessment of English language subject in vocational high school are integrity, academic honesty, and sportsmanship. Those indicators are addressed implicitly in the documents represented by sub indicators such as the prohibition to cheat in doing the assignment and so forth. However, there was no consistency across the documents because honesty indicators appeared quite low in assessment tools prepared by English teachers. This condition indicated that students of Vocational High School get the character building of honesty through English language subject because it was stipulated, and addressed in academic documents. This study proposed a possibility for teachers to improvise their assessment tools by inserting honesty indicators.

Abstract:
This qualitative study investigates language teaching practices relating to L2 English vocabulary instruction in upper secondary school vocational classrooms in Norway. It builds on previous research describing technical vocabulary as an area of particular importance for vocational students’ English language development and relies on observation data from eight vocational classrooms. The study found that vocabulary work has a strong presence within vocational orientation (VO) instruction, across whole-class instruction, group or pair work, and individual work. Most target vocabulary could be classified as words relating to work practices and vocational content knowledge. Many instances of L1–L2 translation tasks were observed. Target words were not practiced across the four language skills and were rarely utilized in productive tasks. The study concludes that observed practices can be improved by prioritizing ways of combining target vocabulary with students’ language production and by including more opportunities to practice independent language strategies.
