Abstract:
The vocational college is commonly known as a place to prepare students to be ready for work in the industry. Hence, the English language taught in this institution should be more functional or applicable rather than theoretical and analytical. The present study aims to investigate the perception of students taking the English language stream in the Applied Foreign Languages program at a vocational college toward learning English grammar. There are 40 student participants involved. The data are collected using a 13-item questionnaire to identify students’ perception of the importance of learning grammar, the relevance to their study and future career, and their feeling toward learning grammar. Analyzed using descriptive statistics, the data indicate that students consider learning grammar important. Their perception tends to be positive regardless fields of their future career. However, translation is the field career in which many students choose and seem to demonstrate a positive perception toward learning English grammar.

Abstract:
This research aims to examine the issue of bilingual learning ecosystems (BLE) in industry-based technology vocational schools. This study is interesting because it becomes an academic effort in overcoming learning difficulties in vocational school students, primarily in setting English learning time and mastering the particular skills of global competitive industrial technology. Using descriptive qualitative research that includes a series of observational data collection, interviews, and documentation, the authors discover the concept of BLE based on school perspective and BLE implementation in the learning process. This study concludes that BLE can be prepared in English and non-English courses by involving school biotic and abiotic elements through collaborative teaching. BLE also supports scientific integration in vocation learning at the secondary level, which has implications for increasing study hours and increasing enrichment of English material that is specific to industry technology vocation students outside of hours that have been scheduled. It is believed that BLE can support the achievement of enhancing English skills with specific goals as well.

Abstract:

Since 1980s, higher vocational education has always been influenced by general higher education mode in teaching. The English teaching mode of higher vocational education also follows English teaching mode of ordinary higher education. According to students' actual situation of higher vocational colleges, English teaching mode suitable for students in higher vocational colleges has not been summarized. As a whole, vocational English teaching still adopts traditional "cramming education" teaching mode. Most English teachers use PPT to give a lecture, while students listen lectures passively, with little classroom interaction between teachers and students. It cannot carry out the teaching model that students act as main body and teachers act as the supplement. There are many students in higher vocational English class, and these students have different English levels. Most higher vocational students have weak English foundation and have not a correct learning method. Many students have less vocabulary accumulation, and their pronunciation is not standard, so they dare not communicate with others in English. Thus, higher vocational English teaching must change traditional teaching mode, change teachers' role in class, improve students' enthusiasm for learning English, and meet educational reforms that focus on cultivation of innovative spirit and practical ability.

This paper is aimed at studying the business English curriculum system in higher vocational colleges from the perspective of the Internet of Things business model. This paper proposes a questionnaire survey analysis method based on the professional curriculum system of business English in higher vocational colleges. This algorithm is more pertinent than ordinary algorithms, and it is more explanatory for the research on the curriculum system of higher vocational business English. This method can more accurately explain the problems existing in the current higher vocational business English courses through detailed analysis of the course objectives, course implementation, and course evaluation. The experimental results of this paper show that the current curriculum system for business English majors in higher vocational colleges has problems in three aspects: curriculum objectives, curriculum implementation, and curriculum evaluation. 20% of the student group thinks that the curriculum system for business English majors has problems.

Abstract:
High-quality vocational education is a vital basis for China’s efforts to develop high-quality teachers and technical and skilled workers. The increasing development of contemporary vocational education is given higher importance in the new era. We proposed the stick to moral education while carefully integrating it with the requirements of changes in technology and modernization, continuous improvements in the quality of college vocational education, and the development of more conceptual and skilled talented individuals with both political integrity and the capacity to build modernization. Using artificial intelligence technology to challenge these difficulties in the context of social informatization can play important role in enhancing the teaching quality of high vocational education. With the advent of the Internet era, students and parents have an increasingly strong demand for online independent vocational English reading materials, although there is some English learning software that provides online vocational English reading materials in the education market. However, most of this software only changes the reading form of paper vocational English reading materials but fails to completely meet the real demand of students for vocational English reading materials, so how to carry out personalized recommendation reading according to the real reading situation and reading preferences of students is a vital problem to be resolved. In this background, this paper studies the personalized recommendation technology, in the use of recommendation algorithms on the based association rules to obtain higher vocational English reading content recommended the strongest association rules, on the based combination of user-based collaborative clarifying recommendation algorithm. The linear regression model combined with the users reading interest and personalized recommendation of higher vocational English reading process is optimized, improving the accuracy of English reading recommendation in vocational colleges.

Abstract:
The aim of the present study is to explore the motivational factors of Hong Kong vocational students in learning English. A qualitative case study approach was employed with a combination of surveys with self-completion questionnaire, semi-structured interviews and diary notes. The research, which was carried out in two phases from September to June 2005-6 in one academic year, had the objective of examining whether there was any change of motivation for learning English. Ten students from a vocational institute were selected for the interviews, each were interviewed twice. They were also invited to write diaries, and to record their daily English activities. The data collected were used to triangulate with the interview findings when analyzing the results. The study was initiated by students’ differences in learning attitudes and the variations in their standard of English. Research on motivation for, and attitudes towards learning English reveal that instrumental and intrinsic motivations often apply to secondary school and tertiary-level learners, but prior to this study the research did not extend to vocational students in Hong Kong. The findings show that vocational students not only have strong instrumental motivation for learning English but also have intrinsic motivation. It was apparent that in the process of their learning English, participants regarded English as a functional language which was tied up with their career. This finding is the same as that of previous research on attitudes towards learning English of Hong Kong students. In addition, vocational students’ motivation for learning English was found to be influenced and encouraged by many factors, particularly significant others, such as parents. The present study will enable English teachers to have a greater understanding of vocational students’ motives for learning English. This could help to improve teaching strategies, teaching materials and language policies; and, thus, enhance more effective learning of English in the vocational setting of Hong Kong.

Abstract:
There has been research that suggests that an anti-studying culture is present in vocational programs in Sweden (Högberg 2009), and that teachers need to adapt their teaching to the students’ vocational interests in order to create an interest in learning (Lindahl 2015; Riley & Eriksson 2014; Smagorinsky et al. 2010). This study investigates how three teachers working at a vocational school in a rural area of Sweden teach the English 5 course. This entails investigating how the teachers perceive student attitudes, how they adapt their teaching, and also how they work to raise motivation among the students. The method used for this is semi-structured personal interviews along with a qualitative content analysis. The results of the study showed that attitudes among students are generally good with some exceptions, where lacking proficiency seems to be a factor regarding poor attitudes. It became evident that the main tool for raising motivation among the students is the adaptation of the teaching. The results also showed that some student groups are more interested in learning English than others, likely because of some students seeing English more a useful tool for their future working life. The issue of social structures regarding the Swedish educational system is also brought up. There is an implication for teachers regarding the adaptations – there has to be a balance between making vocational students interested, while still making sure they do not miss out on any content, i.e. that they get equal opportunity to learn as other students.

Abstract:
In recent years, advances in computer technology have motivated Chinese teachers to reassess computer use and consider it as a valuable part of daily foreign language learning and teaching. Software programmes, USB (Universal Serial Bus) technology, and computer networks are providing teachers with new methods of incorporating culture, grammar, and real language use in the classroom. Students gain access to audio, visual and textual information about the language through the use of computers. The aim of this study was to investigate vocational school English students and teachers concerns and behaviours about integrating information technology into English instruction.
