Abstract:
One of the main problems with virtual reality as a learning tool for vocational education is that there are hardly any theories or models upon which to found and justify the application development. This paper presents a model of virtual reality systems for vocational education. The essential components of the model: real environments, vocational, virtual reality system, interfaces, students, instruction team, and technology team. Metaphor is the core of our model, and one of the main advantages of metaphors is their potential universality.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon the stakeholder, scholarly, academic and jurisdictional influences on course development for a vocationally oriented bachelor’s degree. Design/methodology/approach – This paper takes the form of a case study. Findings – Vocationally oriented bachelor’s courses can be developed, especially when the developers focus on scholarly rigour while paying due heed to jurisdictional requirements as well as the needs of key stakeholders. Research limitations/implications – This case study is limited to a specialist vocational college in Australia. Practical implications – The paper provides a framework by which others can develop vocationally oriented bachelor’s degrees. Social implications – The study can provide impetus to the development of scholarly, and academically rigorous, yet industrially relevant vocational degrees. Originality/value – This is a relatively novel paper from a non-self accrediting higher education provider.

Abstract:
For vocational colleges, talent is the key to their development and efficient human resource administration is the power to move the college forward. As a vocational college, how to administrate its staff according to its own characteristics has always been the emphasis of the college. In vocational colleges, human resources can be comparatively complicated and there is great fluency in their staff and there is a great variety of the period of teaching and rewards among all the staff. To the human resources department, some traditional file administration system cannot satisfy the current vocational college human resources information administration. It is very important to use modern information technologies to build a scientific and efficient human resources management system for vocational colleges. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of the management system combining with advanced database technology.

In order to adapt to the development trend in current vocational education, we developed a multi-functional hydraulic test bench for mechatronics teaching practice. The component structure and functional features of the test bench was introduced in this paper and the application to vocational education was proved to be effective. Practice shows that the bench not only provides students with good experimental conditions close to the actual production and inspires learning enthusiasm and innovation consciousness of the students, but also provides teachers with a platform for scientific research, improves the utilization value of equipment.

Abstract:
Thesis (MTech (Graphic Design))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2016.
The aim of this study was to examine how students experience the transition from the classroom to the workplace. This research explored what factors students found problematic and which factors was helpful during the transition. This research was qualitative and this study focused on the experiences of the participants and all data was collected from their perception of work practice. I used Activity Theory as a theoretical framework to compile and organize relevant data. Data was gathered using video recordings, hand written journal entries and individual interviews. The research was conducted in an on-campus design studio that is situated within the Design Faculty at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The reason for choosing Design Logic as a site is the following; the studio sits neatly between the classroom and the workplace, although the studio is in a protected environment, most of the elements that are present in a real world setup is reflected within Design Logic i.e. the stresses of satisfying demanding clients, working with budgets, liaising with suppliers and the ever present looming deadlines all form part of the daily make-up of Design Logic. Although the starting point of the study was to search for the problem areas of the student’s transition into the work place, the analyzed data revealed the dissimilarities between the two systems and how the participants overcame the difference i.e. shifting identities and rules and norms to develop new skills suited for the work place. The workspace opened a Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and highlighted the value and importance of work practice in preparation of graduates for industry.

Abstract:
The main purpose of the study was to design, develop, deliver and evaluate a new distance web design course for the needs of students in a vocational higher education institution. Proactive action research was used as a framework during the research process. This research focused on the analysis of the existing face-to-face course to mitigate its problems in the new design. Then, accomplishments and insufficiencies of the new design in the new context were investigated. For this study, data were collected in two different semesters, in a vocational higher education institution. In the first semester, an existing course was investigated to see the problems and the needs. The results revealed that there were problems associated with &ldquo
motivational&rdquo
, &ldquo
interactional&rdquo
, &ldquo
instructional activities&rdquo
, &ldquo
support materials&rdquo
, &ldquo
up-to-date content&rdquo
, &ldquo
technologic&rdquo
, and &ldquo
non-technologic&rdquo
aspects of the existing course. Before the delivery of the new distance course in the second semester, it was completely redesigned with the new characteristics to mitigate some of the predetermined problems of the existing course. In this new structure, an instructor from Ankara gave the course via smart class to this vocational institution located in another city. In the second semester, data were collected to understand what the accomplishments of the new course, and what aspects of the new course needed to be modified. To triangulate qualitative findings, two questionnaire were conducted to see the students&rsquo
attitude towards web-based instruction and students&rsquo
perceptions about learning environment. With the findings of these data collection procedures, the accomplishments of the new design can be categorized in five main headings. These are &ldquo
working with an experienced instructor&rdquo
, &ldquo
extended learning opportunities&rdquo
, &ldquo
increased future expectations of students&rdquo
, &ldquo
fulfilled software requirements&rdquo
, and &ldquo
applicability of a distance vocational course&rdquo
. On the other hand, in the new structure of the course, new problems emerged such as &ldquo
course delivery problems&rdquo
and &ldquo
students&rsquo
readiness&rdquo
, because technology use in education sometimes comes with its unique problems including the solutions. Those accomplishments and insufficiencies points of the new design would be helpful in the new distance course design projects.

Abstract:
The main features and general structures of two distant learning modules within geographical information science for vocational training are presented in this paper. “European Level Developments of Flexible Learning Models within Geographical Information Science (GIS) for Vocational Training (E-GIS)” was a pilot project under the Leonardo de Vinci Community action Programme on vocational training, within Geographical Information Science (GIS), to be implemented over a three year period, 2002–05. The project will be continued in 2008–2009 under the abbreviation eGIS+. The main objectives of the project is to establish co-operation between European Universities and GIS user organisations and to develop modularised courses intended for Internet based learning, establish links of communications between the partners in the project in order to disseminate and share “best practices” in different teaching situations and for different types of students. The course modules to be developed, all together, will constitute a one-year programme within GIS. This project mainly targets full time students, private and civil service employees within the European Union, but also similar categories in non-EU countries. The outcomes of the project is high level content, new net-based pedagogic method suited for accessing target groups of great diversity as regards pedagogic traditions, access to computers and bandwidth. Cooperation between the institutions will, certainly, give higher level courses than the individual institutions could possibly themselves. “Training of Lithuanian Geographic Information Infrastructure managers” is a project supported by European Union Structural Funds and National Land Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania Republic. The main objective of the proposed geographic information e-training system is to develop and provide the modularised Spatial Information Infrastructure courses intended for on-line based learning. This mainly will target employees of civil service and private business in Lithuania and European Union. Proposed curriculum is a set of modular courses adding up to 1.5-year part-time studies in the field of Geographic Information Science and Geographic Information Infrastructure.
