Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Intimate Partner Violence is a complex process in which indi-vidual, relational and contextual variables intervene. The aim of this study was to explore coping strategies and relational dynamics in conflict situa-tions involving people convicted of intimate partner violence with their partners. Focus groups were conducted with convicted intimate partner violence offenders (12 participants) and with psychology professionals (4 participants). The data were explored through thematic analysis following the Nested Ecological Model. The group of convicted perpetrators showed roles of authority and superiority over the woman, a feeling of vulnerability and rejection of the existing legal framework, fear of being arrested for wanting to continue the relationship, the need to control the partner driven by jealousy, justification or denial of responsibility in violent situations or instrumentalization of the children in common. The professionals point out cultural aspects that facilitate violent patterns and roles in the couple's dynamics, communication problems, denial or low awareness of the crime, among other issues. The results are of special interest both for profession-als who wish to learn or deepen their knowledge on the subject, as well as for those who work in intervention and/or prevention of intimate partner violence.

Abstract:
Objective: To examine intimate partner violence in relation to culture, age and educational level of those involved.Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study involving a sample of 130 subjects, randomly selected through non-probabilistic sampling by quotas, in Spain and Peru (53 men and 77 women). An evaluation of violent intimate partner relationships was undertaken using a tool known as the "Traffic Light of Gender Violence".Results: Significant association was found between countries and the items related to the control of dress and outings, punishment by indifference, jealousy, overprotection and control by means of the mobile phone. On the other hand, formal education generates a decrease in gender violence suffered in women. With regard to age, males between 25 and 30 years of age show a significant increase in verbal violence and sexual coercion. Conclusion: Cultural and traditional rules can affect intimate partner violence. Therefore, they should be considered when educating for equality in order to elaborate new social constructs, focusing particularly on women with low levels of formal education (because they are more vulnerable to gender violence) and on men of the age group that tends to use it more.

Objective: The general objective of this research is to identify the prevalence and characteristics of partner violence (perpetrator and recipient) in HIV positive patients enrolled in the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS, in Spanish) in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico.Methodology: A quantitative research was proposed, through a descriptive and transversal design, using as main instrument the Likert scale of violence in partner relationships of Cienfuegos and the Likert scale on the use of HIV as a means to materialize violence. We applied 265 self-administered questionnaires and obtained a statistic sample of 198 patients Results: There is a prevalence of partner violence of 40.40% as a receiver and of 40.90% as a perpetrator, psychological violence is the most frequent form in both cases. The prevalence of the use of HIV as a means of materializing partner violence as a recipient is of 4.54% and of 2.52% as a perpetrator. There is a higher proportion of non-heterosexual female victims and aggressors, and of couples in which both members are HIV positive; as well as in patients with a higher level of secure attachment and satisfaction with life. Conclusions: As in GBV (gender-based violence), there is evidence of the existence of violence in same-sex relationships in which one of the members is HIV positive. Likewise, it is possible to corroborate that HIV is used as a means to exercise partner violence.

Palabras clave: justicia, género, violencia, mujeres, NariñoJustice and Gender in Nariño in Cases of Violenceagainst WomenAbstract: Following a review of the judgments handeddown by the municipal courts, circuit courts and theCriminal Division of the Superior Court of the JudicialDistrict of Pasto, between 2005 and 2011, in relationto crimes of violence against women, it was possibleto establish that the most common forms of aggressionagainst women were violent carnal acts, sexual and abusivecarnal acts with girls under 14 years of age, homicide, family violence and personal lesions. The woman’spartner or ex-partner is one of the most common aggressors, although it is alarming that in high percentagesof cases the aggressor is a member of the family, especiallyfathers, grandfathers, uncles and sons. It is alsoworrisome that the time lapse between the occurrenceof the facts and the sentence given was in many casesmore than seven years. Additionally, most administratorsof justice exhibit patriarchal ways of understanding theroles of men and women in society, which is manifestedin judicial leniency toward male violence and condemnationof non-traditional female roles. Keywords: justice, gender, violence, women, Nariño

Abstract:VIOLENCE HISTORY DURING THE CHILDHOOD AND THE PSYCHOPATHOLOGICAL IMPACT IN WOMEN WHO EXPERIENCED INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE. EXPLORATORY STUDYTraumatic experiences during the childhood may be the cause of a large psychopathological impact in the adulthood. Some researches show that suffer physical and sexual abuses in the childhood may be related to intimate partner violence. The main purpose of this research is not other that to analyse if abuse during childhood may increase the symptoms of female victims of intimate partner violence in their adulthood. It is also examined if an abused experience during the childhood could be related to with intimate partner violence. It has been studied 60 women real cases who were in a woman public support service and reported intimate partner violence (V group). The control group was 20 women real cases who went to the same service, however, reported no partner violence (NV group). The results show that suffer violence during the childhood may increase the anxiety level and PTSD’s symptoms of female victims of intimate partner violence, although it would be necessary increasing the sample and using a retrospective method acting to deepen in traumatic childhood experiences in future researches. Keywords: violence, woman, partner, impact, psychopathological, abuse, childhood.

- The article introduces the topic of violence between intimate partners (IPV) from a brief description of the different types of violence highlighted by the literature: psychological, physical, sexual and economic violence. While recognizing a wide cultural influence behind the increase in frequency of the Intimate Partners Violence (in which the perpetrator is mainly the man and the victim is a woman), the article presents an overview of the different psychological models in search of the risk factors on which different theories converge. In particular, the article outline the various risk factors reported by researchers and take into account the relational level where risk factors are focused and the role that violence plays in the individual and relational dynamic.

Abstract:
AbstractUsing data from the National Survey on Violence during Courtship, undertaken in 2007 on young Mexicans aged 15 to 24, the author explores the levels of contraceptive knowledge and use in the context of courtship. This analysis seeks to prove the role played by the various socio-demographic characteristics of young people in contraceptive knowledge and use, with particular emphasis on the role of gender. In general, significant differences are observed between “ever use” of contraceptives and factors associated with condom use in relations with one’s current partner. Contraceptive use appears to be positively associated in both men and women with more favorable socio-economic conditions, greater contraceptive knowledge and a greater number of sexual partners (only among men). Among women, being a student also encourages contraceptive use. However, when characteristics of the courtship are incorporated and the analysis is circumscribed by the frequency of condom use in sexual relations with the current partner, objective relations become less important while certain more subjective features of the relationship become more important. These include: age difference between the partners (for men and women), duration of the courtship (for women), who decides when and how to have sex (for men), support provided by the partner (men only) and attitude towards gender roles (in the case of men) and the presence of emotional violence (for men) and physical violence.

Abstract.GENDER VIOLENCE: EMPATHY AND FORGIVENESS ROLE ON THE ATTITUDE TOWARD RETURNING WITH THE EXPARTNER.In the intervention with battered women, to minimize the impact of the experience and to diminish the possibility of a return to the violent relationship is quite important. To achieve this purpose, working on variables with a restorative effect on the process is the key. Considering the role of forgiveness in other clinical contexts, and the linking of empathy with it, the objective of the study was to analyze the relationship and predictive capacity of empathy and forgiveness (forgiveness of the situation and self-forgiveness, and forgiveness of the other) on the attitude of returning with the ex-partner. The study involved 17 women between 26 and 60 years. It was found that the ability or inability to separate from the emotions of others (reverberation), as empathic ability, influences the attitude of returning or not with the ex-partner. In addition, participants with greater difficulty in self forgiveness and forgive the situation had a higher difficulty of separation or reverberation. Keywords: Gender violence, empathy, forgiveness, attitude toward return.

Abstract:
The article summarizes approaches to coercive measures that apply to persons who have committed domestic violence, as well as developing their own recommendations to address or reduce the severity of this problem in society. The existing and planned measures by the National Police of Ukraine on the impact on criminals practicing domestic violence are analyzed. Examples of the fight against domestic violence in the leading countries of the world are given. The need for a clear definition in the minds of citizens what exactly should be qualified as domestic violence is noted. It is recommended to conduct thematic lessons with the disclosure of such concepts as “mutual respect”, “mutual assistance”, “respectful attitude to women, as well as older persons”, “tolerant attitude to people with special needs” and others, which ultimately will help to grow mentally healthy nation. Programs that teach young people healthy relationship skills such as communication, effectively managing feelings, and problem-solving can prevent violence. These skills can stop violence in dating relationships before it occurs. The best way to put a lasting stop to domestic violence is for people to abstain from the practice of trying to control and mistreat those they love. To be able to achieve this goal, we need to teach our younger generation the significance of respecting their prospective partners through a courteous and healthy bond with our spouses and partners. There are several ways to boost the prevention of domestic violence in our community. A major strategy for preventing domestic violence, frequently referred to as intimate partner violence, is by boosting respectful and peaceful relationships. It is proposed to organize the work of a sufficient number of centers of social and psychological assistance available for victims, as well as free helplines that should work around the clock.

Abstract:
Based on evidence that, in situations of exclusion, the prevalence of gender-based intimate partner violence increases, this paper analyses the dynamics of the link between these circumstances. To this end, 16 in-depth interviews were conducted with women survivors. They revealed two different routes: being in a situation of exclusion could be a triggering factor or a result of such violence. In this paper a detailed analysis of the first route is provided and a series of elements that could be a triggering factor of violence are identified. These are categorised into two groups: on the one hand, factors that condition the process of formation of couples; on the other hand, factors that facilitate the emergence of gender-based intimate partner violence in an already established intimate relationship. Among the first should be noted: the presence, in certain situations of exclusion, of masculinity role models in which aggressiveness and violence gain special relevance; and the existence of diverse circumstances that force women to start a relationship and, in this way, put them in a position of increased vulnerability in it. Among the second should be noted: the lack of family and social support, that increases women´s powerlessness; the effects of the accumulation of difficulties in diverse spheres; the male abuse of drugs; and the presence of an environment which, sometimes, does not disapprove the use of gender-based intimate partner violence. The novelty of the analysis performed herein resides in its reference to the notion of social exclusion and in the importance attributed to gender power relations when analysing the aetiology of violence. In other words, at all times the role of the aforementioned factors is interpreted in the light of the structural background of unequal gender relations in which it operates and without which their effect would necessarily differ.

Abstract:
In 2022, cases of violence against women and children in East Kalimantan Province increased by 315 cases in just four months. Samarinda City is in first place for cases of violence against women and children in East Kalimantan Province, with 18 victims being students. This study focuses on the experiences and impacts of violence experienced by female students in Samarinda City as victims of violence in dating relationships. This type of research is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. This study employed Michel Foucault’s power relations theory. Data acquisition was carried out through in-depth interviews. The data was then processed using the Creswell method. This study found that patriarchal culture is still extremely strong, making the perpetrators believe that as men, they must be brave and dominant in a dating relationship to be able to maintain power and control over their partners. Victims of dating violence are willing to do whatever their partner requests in the hope that it will make their partner happier and love them more. This study concludes that the impact of violence on victims can take the form of verbal violence, physical violence, or psychological disturbances, requiring victims to seek medical assistance from a psychiatrist to help deal with mental disorders and trauma.

Abstract:
Introduction While hand injuries are reported as common sequelae of intimate partner violence, there is limited attention to hand therapist’s screening practices and perceived preparedness to deal with intimate partner violence in hand therapy setting. The primary aim of the current study is to describe the intimate partner violence training, knowledge of referrals, perceived preparedness, and screening practices of hand therapists. Methods An online survey investigating the perceptions regarding issues pertaining to intimate partner violence was completed by a sample of 189 hand therapists. Areas addressed included intimate partner violence training, perceived preparedness to deal with intimate partner violence-related responsibilities, screening practices and knowledge of resources for referrals. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics while comparisons of groups used non-parametric analyses to evaluate the impact of training, intimate partner violence experience and knowledge of referrals on preparedness and screening practices. Results Hand therapists reported low perceived preparedness scores (median = 2.1/7) and screening practices. The majority (73%) of hand therapists indicated having received no intimate partner violence training. Additionally, intimate partner violence training, intimate partner violence experience, and knowledge of referrals had significant impact on hand therapists’ perceived preparedness and screening practices. Conclusion Training is significantly related to perceived preparedness and screening practices. Intimate partner violence screening may result in clients receiving appropriate referrals leading to improved quality of life. Future research should seek out ideal methods for offering intimate partner violence training for hand therapists so that they can meet the needs of clients with intimate partner violence experience.

Abstract:
Migration across international borders places tremendous stress on immigrant families and may put women at greater risk for intimate partner violence. In this study, we used narrative analysis methods to explore how nine Mexican immigrant women in the Northeastern United States described their experiences of intimate partner sexual violence, and how these stories were embedded within narratives of transition and movement across borders. We identified three major themes: The Virgin and the Whore, The Family, and Getting Ahead. We share important implications for researchers and health and social service providers working with this population.

Abstract:
Interventions for ending intimate partner violence (IPV) have not usually provided integrated approaches. Legal and social policies have the duty to protect, assist and empower women and to bring offenders to justice. Men have mainly been considered in their role as perpetrators to be subjected to judicial measures, while child witnesses of violence have not been viewed as a direct target for services. Currently, there is a need for an integrated and holistic theoretical and operational model to understand IPV as gender-based violence and to intervene with the goal of ending the fragmentation of existing measures. The EU project ViDaCS—Violent Dads in Child Shoes—which worked towards the deconstruction and reconstruction of violence’s effects on child witnesses, has given us the opportunity to collect the opinions of social workers and child witnesses regarding violence. Therefore, the article describes measures to deal with IPV, proposing functional connections among different services and specific preventative initiatives. Subsequently, this study will examine intimate partner violence and provide special consideration to interventions at the individual, relational, organizational and community levels. The final goal will be to present a short set of guidelines that take into account the four levels considered by operationalizing the aforementioned ecological principles.

Abstract:
The evaluation of the efficacy of treatment of batterers in Official or Couple Records is not valid, whilst the efficient interventions are focused on the empowerment of cognitive and behavioural competence. A field study for measuring the effects of the treatment on the cognitive competence was designed. A total of 100 batterers who had completed a community penitentiary intervention programme, were assessed pre- and post-treatment in cognitive competence i.e., self-concept, emotional intelligence, attribution of responsivity, cognitive skills to cope intimate-partner-related stressful events, expression and control of anger, and irrational beliefs and distorted thoughts. The results showed a significant effect of the treatment in the acquisition of cognitive competence skills. Succinctly, treatment empowered the general self-concept in 18.2%, and the internal dimensions of self-concept self-satisfaction in 33.5% and behaviour in 25.6%; and clarity to discriminate among moods in 31.8%. Moreover, treatment increased the assumption of internal responsivity in 31.8%; anger control in 19.1%; and the use of adaptive strategies to cope intimate-partner-related stressful events between 48.9% and 61.3%. Finally, treatment involved a fall in the use of maladaptive strategies to cope intimate-partner-related stressful events between 25.6% and 35.1%; and in the irrational beliefs and distorted thoughts related with the use of violence, in 78.2%, 48.2% y 63.6%, for use of violence, gender roles and emotional dependence, respectively. Nonetheless, not all the batterers benefited from treatment.

Abstract:
Witnessing intimate partner violence (IPV) may have damaging effects on children’s well-being and development. How children understand IPV affects the risk of their developing negative outcomes. Talking with children about the violent episodes they have experienced can change their beliefs regarding their parents’ IPV, and therefore may also be a way to help them deal with these adverse experiences. The purpose of the current study was to use the children’s narratives to explore the relationship between how IPV was perceived by the children and their experience of talking about it. Interviews with 31 children between 9 and 13 years of age were analyzed using a thematic method. Two main groups of children were identified: children who described the violence as a horrifying experience and children who preferred not to think about the violence. The findings showed that children who described the violence as a horrifying experience perceived talking about the violence as a positive, yet sometimes distressing, experience that made a real difference in their lives; whereas, children who preferred not to think about the violence did not see much need to talk about it and benefit from talking about it. The study confirms previous research indicating that talking about IPV experiences sometimes leads to feelings of relief in children. Thereby, professionals play an important role by providing an appropriate setting to help children reduce their distressing feelings.

Abstract:
Covid-19 has impacted people’s lives significantly, and it might continue to impact them until people find a way to deal with it indefinitely. In the early stage of the pandemic, when there was no vaccine and COVID-19 had an outbreak, the government decided to implement a lockdown policy to stop the spread. Several questions have arisen, whether lockdown affects intimate partner violence and how it will change after lockdown. This study examined intimate partner violence experienced by people during the COVID-19 lockdowns in Los Angeles. By selecting intimate partner violence data from 2019 to 2022 from Los Angeles crime dataset and using Difference-in-Difference method compare the intimate partner crime counts during different period, the following result is generated. The study shows that intimate partner violence will drop significantly at the beginning of the lockdown and increase as lockdown time increases. Intimate partner violence also increases when the lockdown is over. This study could be used for future policy making and preventing intimate partner violence in case another pandemic outbreak requires lockdown.

Abstract:
The results of gender equality indicators across the world in the form of prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV) against women are striking and has thus drawn the attention of policy makers as well as necessitates the adoption of a comprehensive system to deal with. The situation of IPV in Pakistan is alarming. This study examines the acceptability attitude of women and men toward intimate partner violence against women through data science. It discovers and contrasts the frequently co-occurring reasons due to which husbands’ behaviour of beating their wives is believed to be legitimate by both partners in the province of Punjab, Pakistan. Though the discovered frequently co-occurring reasons, such as “arguing with the husband and neglecting the children” altogether, are similar in both genders but the fraction of wives believing in such reasons are significantly greater than that of husbands. This psychological disparity across genders could help in identifying the social and cultural factors to whom this disparity is attributed. It is expected that the identified co-occurring groups of reasons would help to understand the problem to the next level and devise better strategies to mitigate them.

Abstract:
The content of this paper is an overview of the results of some available foreign studies related to the experience of violence against women suffering from various malignancies, especially breast and gynecological cancers. The topic is both specific and complex because it considers double victimization - malignancy and violence. The idea for this review paper emerged from author?s observations during the years of her clinical and psychotherapy practice, who after 16 years of work with the population of children, adolescents and adults with malignant diseases at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, continued to deal with counseling and psychotherapy of adult oncology patients and their family members in private practice. This paper is intended to stimulate research on violence against women suffering from malignant diseases in Serbia. The author?s experience and observations from her daily psychotherapy practice indicate that violence, especially partner violence against women suffering from malignant diseases, both in the years before the onset of the disease and during and after the end of combined oncological treatment, is, unfortunately, rather present in Serbia. For a more comprehensive and systematic insight into this issue, it is necessary to conduct an ?anonymous? national victimization survey to cover women aged 19-75 who are treated for the most common malignancies typical for women (breast and gynecological cancers) in all reference national oncology centers across Serbia.

Abstract:
Cyberbullying is a phenomenon that has been extensively analysed amongst adolescents. However, in Spain, there have been few studies of young adults and particularly of their romantic relationships in the digital context. This study analyses cyberbullying in romantic relationships in mobile and digital exchanges between partners, in a sample comprising 336 students using quantitative methodology. The results show that 57,2% of the sample admit to having been victimised by their partner by mobile phone and 27,4% via the Internet. The percentage of victimised males was higher than that of females. 47,6% affirmed that they had bullied their partner by mobile phone and 14% over the Internet. The percentage of males who did so was higher than that of females. The regression analyses showed correlation between having been victimised by a partner via one of these media and having experienced cyberbulling in other by means of the same technological medium. The effects of this interaction highlight that males victimised through the use of mobile phones or the Internet are involved, to a greater extent than victimised females, as the perpetrators in this phenomenon. The results suggest modernisation in the types of violence that young adults experience in their relationships.

Abstract:
This article examines the relationship of coping and problem drinking to men’s abusive behavior towards female partners. While previous research has demonstrated a consistent association between problem drinking and male abuse of intimate partners, virtually no studies have assessed the role of coping in relation to men’s violence. Furthermore, multivariate studies have not examined how these factors operate together to increase risk for abusive behavior. An ethnically diverse sample of 147 men in a court-mandated program for domestic violence offenders completed questionnaires at the first session. Path modeling was conducted to test the extent to which coping and problem drinking predicted both physical and psychological abuse. In addition, the relationships of problem drinking and physical abuse to injury of the men’s female partners were examined. Results indicated that both the use of avoidance and problem-solving coping to deal with relationship problems were related indirectly to abusive behavior through problem drinking. Greater use of avoidance coping strategies was more likely among problem drinkers. By contrast, men who used higher levels of problem-solving coping were less likely to be problem drinkers. Avoidance, but not problem-solving coping also was directly and positively related to physical and psychological abuse. Men identified as problem drinkers were more likely to use both physical and psychological abuse. Finally, greater use of physical violence was strongly related to higher levels of injury among female partners, and served to mediate the relationship between problem drinking and injury. Results are discussed in terms of their contribution to the identification of risk and protective factors for men’s violent behavior toward intimate female partners and implications for developing intervention strategies.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to estimate the impact of the Juntos program on the levels of domestic violence against women. Certainly, violence is a complex phenomenon and is determined by multiple causes; although it is true, within the objectives of the Juntos program, the reduction of domestic violence is not directly envisaged. However, a group of studies warn that one of the causes of violence against women is for economic reasons and there are three types of domestic violence: physical, psychological and sexual. Specifically, the Juntos program is a social program aimed at the most vulnerable population, in situations of extreme poverty, risk and exclusion; the subsidy consists of the monthly delivery of 100 soles. The study follows a quantitative methodology because of the need to empirically demonstrate the impact of the program, specifically the technique of Propensity Score Matching: Nearest Neighbor Matching and the data source used for the analysis is the National Survey of Demography and Family Health - ENDES of the years 2014 and 2015. The results indicate that the Juntos program has not managed to reduce the levels of domestic violence to a level of significance of 5%, it does not report a favorable impact of the program in the reduction of physical, psychological and sexual violence either in severe form or sometimes; however, the number of beneficiary households has increased exponentially during the 10 years of operation. The results suggest incorporating into the health component of the Juntos program the mental health of the beneficiary households, for this the participation of the woman and her partner is important, the condition or commitment is to modify the behavior of the couple in acts or attitudes of violence.

Abstract:

Summary

This opinion paper articulates different nuances of intimate partner violence as a public health problem with emphasis in its political dimensions in Colombia, as a result of several researches of the authors that involve a narrative review, the systematic professional observation, the dialogues and consultations with specialists from different fields, the participation in various research projects and social activism scenarios. The initial question is: what happens to the health of love in Colombia? This means thinking about the reasons to begin intimate relationships, how to face conflicts and how to decide to inflict or tolerate abuse that could unleash on violence. This is in relation to the subjective and cultural dimensions, which include questioning of the hegemonic masculinities, influenced by a history of more than sixty years of violence in Colombia and the gender inequities intertwined with economic ones. The intimate partner violence in Colombia has become a political and social problem that deserves governmental and social attention in a complex environment of confrontations between patriarchal traditions that underestimate its relevance and the transformations prompted by the feminist movement in alliance with other social sectors, that intend to position it as an ethical inadmissible problem, which means to go further in the construction of violence against women as an intolerable issue.

Key words: Social problems; Violence, Feminism, Gender relations (MeSH).

Abstract:
This article presents a systematic review of intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention studies. Using electronic databases and standard search methods, 19 studies met inclusion criteria for the review. These studies targeted partner violence victimization and/or perpetration, included a comparison or control group, and measured IPV behavior or outcomes involving knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, or other constructs related to IPV. Fifteen of the studies used randomized designs, and 9 studies were identified that used rigorous methods (randomized designs, measurement of IPV behavior, sufficient follow-up, independent assessors). Four of the 9 studies were school-based studies conducted in middle or high schools. Only 1 of those found an unqualified positive impact on IPV behavior; another found an IPV preventive effect for boys only. Five of the 9 studies were conducted in community settings, including 2 that worked with couples, 2 that provided group-based interventions set in the community, and 1 that worked with parents to promote dating violence prevention with their teenage children. All 5 of the community-based studies reported positive impact on IPV behavior. Although there are some encouraging findings in the literature, gaps remain. No programs have been replicated, and although there would appear to be a great deal of overlap in program content, there is no analysis examining key components of program effectiveness.
