Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Witnessing domestic violence may have serious negative consequences for the health, development and well-being of children. Only recently, witnessing domestic violence has been evaluated as a form of child maltreatment, considering the effects it may have within the family. Domestic violence is a complex and lasting experience that often results in interruptions, losses and challenges for the meaningful relationships of children. Children have very often feelings of fear, worry, guilt, helplessness and sadness and adopt strategies to deal with such traumatic situations. Moreover, children exposed to domestic violence have a high risk of having delays in cognitive, psychic, emotional and physical development with school and social interaction difficulties, internalising and externalising problems, learning disorders, aggressive behaviour and post-traumatic symptoms. Therefore, it is critical to early identify the signals that children show to help them and their family get out of the violent and abusive environment.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background: People with advancing dementia may be dependent on community services from home care workers and nurses to be supported at home. However, these care workers face difficulty undertaking their roles due to challenging behaviours or occupational violence. This study aimed to explore the challenges faced by home care workers and nurses working with people diagnosed with dementia in the community, to identify job demands contributing to their vulnerability to occupational violence, and to determine ways to help manage occupational violence. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted by interviewing 10 homecare workers and six registered nurses from agencies in South Australia and New South Wales, Australia. Interviews were audiotaped, transcribed and inductive thematic data analysis was conducted. Results: The following themes were identified: (i) sources of threats; (ii) categories of violent, threatening or challenging behaviour; (iii) aggravating factors; (iv) early warning signs; (v) education and training; (vi) managing occupational violence, (vii) resources, (viii) outcomes associated with exposure to occupational violence. Conclusion: Serious issues were identified by participants, yet very little is known about occupational violence for these community care workers. Findings can inform what aspects of work design can be improved to moderate the effects of occupational violence exposure or mitigate rates of exposure, to enable long-term services for people with dementia.

Abstract:
This study investigated whether factors related to bodily contact between health care workers and patients were associated with patient-initiated violence. This cross-sectional study surveyed 496 Danish health care workers measuring patient-initiated violence, use of assistive devices, body mass index, physical exertion, frequency of patient transfers, psychosocial work environment, gender, age, and seniority. Associations were modeled using logistic regression analyses using patient-initiated violence as the outcome. Twenty-five percent of the respondents had experienced physical or verbal violence during the past year. Infrequent use of assistive devices, high physical strain, and severe obesity all significantly increased the risk of physical violence (risk ratio [RR] = 1.18, RR = 1.18, and RR = 1.16, respectively), whereas only the lack of assistive device use significantly increased the risk of verbal violence (RR = 1.13 and RR = 1.08). Consistent use of assistive devices appears to reduce the risk of patient-initiated violence. Managers should require the use of assistive devices when designing work processes for patient transfers.

Abstract:
There is limited research available on children’s involvement in incidents of adult domestic violence. This study collected direct reports on real-life events and went beyond earlier research by eliciting information on a larger array of family and contextual factors that may account for variation in children’s responses. Anonymous telephone interviews with 114 battered mothers in four metropolitan areas elicited detailed information from women on their children’s responses to the violence being committed against the mothers. One quarter of the mothers reported that their children were physically involved in the events. In addition, mothers with less stable financial, social, and living situations at the time of the interview reported their children to have intervened more during the past violent incidents. The article concludes with recommendations for a greater emphasis on careful assessment of children’s involvement in domestic violence incidents and on assisting mothers to achieve economic stability as well as safety.

Abstract:
Both practitioners and researchers confirm the utility of spiritual assistance for victims of violence, but the opportunities for religious spiritual assistance for persons who have experienced workplace mobbing have remained little explored in recent years. Although it is acknowledged that biblical narratives can help to structure personal experiences in coping with the traumatic consequences of violence, the main problem is the indefiniteness of the systematic application of specific texts in the process of assisting victims of workplace mobbing. In order to fill this gap, the analysis of the literature on workplace mobbing was performed and based on the identified essential features of the phenomenon, the types of response to violent behaviour in the Gospel of Luke were distinguished. Links between workplace mobbing and the gospel as well as guidelines for their practical application are discussed.

Abstract:
Cael.

Abstract:
Among the myriad of applications of natural language processing (NLP), assisting law enforcement agencies (LEA) in detecting and preventing cybercrimes is one of the most recent and promising ones. The promotion of violence or hate by digital means is considered a cybercrime as it leverages the cyberspace to support illegal activities in the real world. The paper at hand proposes a solution that uses neural network (NN) based NLP to monitor suspicious activities in social networks allowing us to identify and prevent related cybercrimes. An LEA can find similar posts grouped in clusters, then determine their level of polarity, and identify a subset of user accounts that promote violent activities to be reviewed extensively as part of an effort to prevent crimes and specifically hostile social manipulation (HSM). Different experiments were also conducted to prove the feasibility of the proposal.

Abstract:
Introduction: Healthcare workers play a vital role in assessing and appropriately responding to family violence. Discipline-specific differences in the readiness to respond have been indicated in the literature but no studies have directly compared multiple disciplines using the same measure. Given the imperative need for a hospital-wide, multidisciplinary approach to managing family violence, this study aimed to compare and contrast clinician perceived levels of knowledge, confidence and clinical readiness to manage disclosures of family violence across major professional groups in a tier 1, tertiary adult trauma hospital in Australia. Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study implemented a brief questionnaire to explore self-reported knowledge, confidence and clinical skills in managing family violence. Data were analysed using non-parametric analyses. The Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines for observational research were followed in the reporting of this study. Results: Significantly greater self-reported clinical skills, knowledge and confidence were found among social work clinicians relative to all other disciplines. By contrast, allied health clinicians reported the lowest levels of clinical knowledge, confidence and skills relative to other discipline areas. No significant differences were seen between nursing and medicine. Conclusion: There are significant differences across clinical professional groupings in knowledge and confidence levels, and clinical skills in assisting patients experiencing family violence. The findings have implications for facilitating a hospital-wide, multidisciplinary response to assisting clients experiencing family violence.

Objective: To demonstrate the number of cases of sexual violence against women and the importance of nursing care. Method: This is a bibliographic research, where articles in Portuguese were searched from the year 2016 to 2021, original articles available in full, in online format were included. Results: The study revealed that since the year 1980 that in Brazil there have been discussions about sexual violence, technical standard was created having as objective the care of these victims. Conclusion: It is important to emphasize that nurses are extremely important in assisting and welcoming women victims of sexual violence, since they are in the front line of care and can positively impact the identification process, as well as welcoming the woman to feel comfortable in such a situation.

Abstract:
This research aims to empirically analyses of implementation of counselling towards victims of domestic violence. The research method is descriptive qualitative. The population of this study were women (wives), who were victims of different types of domestic violence at Tabongo Timur Village. Based on the result, there were three pattern implementations of counselling that have been done at Tabonga Timur Village, firstly, providing direction/guidance; secondly, assisting domestic violence victims; and thirdly, establishing domestic violence clinic. The realization of the program of providing counselling of domestic victims at Tabonga Timur Village has not been optimal because the victims are afraid to report, limited fund allocation, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and both characteristics of victims and factors of domestic violence are various.

Abstract:
Objectives: Family violence is a public health issue. It occurs in many forms, is most commonly directed at woman and children, and contributes significantly to death, disability, and illness. This study was conducted in the clinical staff in a large metropolitan hospital and aimed to determine levels of family violence training, self-perceived knowledge and confidence, specific clinical skills, and barriers to working effectively in the area. Methods: A short, targeted online survey was designed to capture the required information. Descriptive statistics were calculated, and free-text responses were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Survey responses were received from 534 staff (242 nurses, 225 allied health, 67 medical). Sixty-five percent had received some form of family violence training, mostly of short duration (1–3 h); 72% reported having little or no confidence working in the area, while 76% indicated that they had little or no knowledge in the area. Longer duration training was associated with an increase in knowledge and confidence ratings. Family violence screening rates and knowledge of several specific family violence clinical skills (how to appropriately ask clients about family violence and family violence risk factors) were also low. Thirty-four percent indicated that they did not know what to do, when a patient disclosed experiencing family violence. The most commonly indicated barriers to working effectively in this area were suspected perpetrators being present, perceived reluctance of patients/clients to disclose when asked, and time limitations. Conclusion: This research provides a useful snapshot of clinical staff perceptions of their family violence skill levels in a large metropolitan Australian tertiary hospital. It highlights the need for further in-depth training in clinical health professionals in family violence. The research will allow for family violence training to be tailored to the needs of the professional discipline and clinical area.

Abstract Objectives: to know the perception of obstetric violence for professionals who assist in labor and delivery. Methods: the research was qualitative. Research participants were 22 professionals providing or assisting women during labor and delivery. The sample was defined by data saturation. The analysis of the data collected was performed using the proposed content analysis of Bardin. Results: five categories were identified, professionals highlighted the existence of a process of change in childbirth care and the importance of respecting physiology and intervening when necessary. It was evident that verbal violence is one of the most recurrent forms of obstetric violence. The factors identified as determinants for the existence of violence were the interaction between the parturient and the team, the professional’s lack of preparation and institutional problems. Even with several statements about obstetric violence, some professionals stressed not experiencing it in practice. Conclusions: the need to invest in strategies to inhibit obstetric violence and humanize care is perceived through training professionals and guiding women on their rights.

Abstract:
AbstractNow that it has been in operation for 20 years, it is necessary to reflect on the impact the South African Domestic Violence Act has had on women's lives. This article analyses this key legislation and the police's duty to ensure its proper implementation. It focuses on the reports of the Independent Complaints Directorate and Civilian Secretariat of Police, the bodies responsible for measuring police compliance with the act. The reports identify serious transgressions, highlighting the police's perception that domestic violence is a private affair with which it should not interfere. This perception plays a particularly subtle and destructive role in legitimizing, supporting and permitting violence against women. In focusing on key court decisions in which the state (police) was held financially accountable for the failure to protect women against violence, the author highlights the importance of challenging the social and legal understanding of women's experiences with violence in promoting a system that takes account of those experiences.

Abstract:
The field of social psychology has long investigated the role of prosocial bystanders in assisting crime victims and helping in emergency situations. This research has usually been experimental and has established important principles about the conditions under which individuals will choose to engage in prosocial bystander behaviors. More recently, interest has grown in applying this work to the important practical problem of preventing interpersonal violence in communities. Yet, to date, there has been little research on the role of bystanders in cases of interpersonal violence. The current study is thus exploratory. Using a sample of 389 undergraduates, the study discusses key issues in the development of measures to investigate these questions and presents preliminary analyses of correlates of bystander behavior in the context of sexual and intimate partner violence.

This article focuses on the engineering requirements of the web-based application development process for reporting and assisting victims of violence against women using the Loucopoulos and Kanakostas Iterative Requirements Engineering Process Model. The application was created to contribute to the solution of the problem of violence against women in Indonesia, where violence against women is an iceberg phenomenon because not all incidents are reported. Furthermore, victims of violence against women require support in receiving emotional support in the form of counseling, which can be done online via chat or video calls. The results of these requirements engineering are alternative solutions, application feature design, database design, system modeling using UML, and application architecture design. The validation of requirements engineering was carried out using a low fidelity prototype

Abstract:
AbstractThis article evaluates reparation by the state after four of the worst episodes of violence against religious minorities in independent India. Examining official records obtained through India’s law on the right to information, I analyze government aid to victims after identity-based massacres over a 20-year period. I argue that there is a well-established repertoire of assistive measures after sectarian violence but, despite the resources available within a politically stable state, aid for victims of mass violence in India is unimaginative and meagre. I argue further that the political opportunity structure for reparations is limited by the fact that sectarian mobilization is embedded within electoral politics in India. Just as sectarian politics led governments to tolerate mass violence, it constricts the checks and balances that might lead to adequate reparation after violence subsides. I then suggest that opportunities to negotiate better reparation for victims expand over time, and propose that a law on reparation would constrain state bias and strengthen opportunities for victims to demand the support that they need.

Abstract:
This study explores the experiences of domestic violence victims with their Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) applications and the subsequent assessment processes in the state of Georgia, focusing on the conditions related to their disclosure of abuse and their postdisclosure experiences. This study interviewed five victims of domestic violence, four local victim advocates, and three nationally recognized experts regarding domestic violence screening in TANF programs using semistructured interviews. Data were analyzed using grounded theory techniques. The findings showed that the participants perceived TANF application and assessment processes as (i) inaccessible and (ii) unhelpful, lacking special considerations for domestic violence victims. Conditions related to victims’ disclosure of abuse included (i) safety concerns, (ii) working relationships between local victim support agencies and TANF offices, (iii) a safe environment to disclose abuse, and (iv) advocacy. After disclosing their domestic violence history to their TANF caseworkers, the victims reported experiencing (i) a lack of continued assessment and support related to domestic violence and (ii) a compulsion to make final decisions regarding continuing or discontinuing their TANF applications. The current study contributes to the field of social work by providing a better understanding of how and to what extent victims of domestic violence are actually supported within the TANF system and by yielding practice and policy implications for effectively assisting the victims of domestic violence within the TANF system.

Abstract:
Domestic violence (KDRT) is the most common violence of women in Indonesia. This occurs because of gender imbalances that differentiate women's and men's roles and rights in the community that places women in a lower status than men. The privilege of men as if they make women the property of men who are entitled to be treated arbitrarily, including by violence. The counseling theory approach that is considered relevant to domestic violence cases is feminist counseling. Concepts built in feminist theory use a system perspective, meaning that the process of counseling intervention is not only to individuals but the individual environment is given the treatment to ensure the solution of the root of the problem. The ability of counselors to empower individuals/communities within the victim's environment is a skill that must be sharpened by counselors who use feminist counseling. This theory is based on the principles of the personal is political, egalitarian relationship and the valuing perspective. The three concepts that become pillars of feminist counseling become an essential indicator in determining the ability of counselor in assisting women victims of domestic violence.
