Abstract:
The main research subject is forming optimal local models of the architectural and technological intervention in rural areas of the Republic of Serbia, as a way of climate change adaptation, as well as their feasibility study on the West Pomoravlje area. Each region has its own unique features. Thus, in the territory of the Republic of Serbia can be defined zones with the same local characteristics, using the following criteria of physical and human geography: geo-physiognomic characteristics, climatic characteristics, economic development, and level of urbanity. These criteria are defined as the most important. They are the primary determinants for choosing the architectural and technological interventions within the local model as a way of climate change adaptation. The first part of research deals with the zoning of the Republic of Serbia and defining the zones with the same local characteristics. Atlas of villages, providing their current types and possible future models, will be created. The second part is based on the case study of one of the zones - West Pomoravlje zone. Villages and households within the zone will be analysed and sorted into the types and groups. Further research will be based on the examination of possibilities of transforming the existing villages into the eco-villages, mapping the most appropriate positions for new eco-villages and forming a potential eco-village network.

Abstract:
It has been a long time that two kinds of resident habitations and the corresponding administration systems have been present and functioning in Chinese cities and countries. In recent years, with the rapid development and expansion of city, many villages have been gradually incorporated into city zone and as a result villages in urban district, normally called in-city villages, come into being, which are sarcastically against the grain with all aspects of city zone. This paper studies the problem by the theory of dualistic structure of city and country, and analyzes the transition and causes from the point of view of city development, especially on the change process, i.e., from neighboring village to village which is half incorporated by city, and finally to the in-city village. For the purpose of illustration, investigates the causes of transition and engendering of in-city villages with respect to city expansion and village urbanization. The result of this study is anticipated to be of some significance to perform the full-scale city modernization and to establish a harmony society.

Abstract:
Small-scale farms represent about 80% of the farming area of China, in a context where they need to produce economic and environmentally sustainable food. The objective of this work was to define management zone (MZs) for a village by comparing the use of crop yield proxies derived from historical satellite images with soil information derived from remote sensing, and the integration of these two data sources. The village chosen for the study was Wangzhuang village in Quzhou County in the North China Plain (NCP) (30°51′55″ N; 115°02′06″ E). The village was comprised of 540 fields covering approximately 177 ha. The subdivision of the village into three or four zones was considered to be the most practical for the NCP villages because it is easier to manage many fields within a few zones rather than individually in situations where low mechanization is the norm. Management zones defined using Landsat satellite data for estimation of the Green Normalized Vegetation Index (GNDVI) was a reasonable predictor (up to 45%) of measured variation in soil nitrogen (N) and organic carbon (OC). The approach used in this study works reasonably well with minimum data but, in order to improve crop management (e.g., sowing dates, fertilization), a simple decision support system (DSS) should be developed in order to integrate MZs and agronomic prescriptions.

Abstract:
There are various traffic calming measures that can be installed in village transition zones. So far, focus was placed on diversified use of pavement markings, amounts of horizontal deflection, shape of the installed chicanes or central islands, presence of gateway, etc., and their location along the transition zone. However, the combined effect of the different transition zone factors on speed reductions has been rarely studied so far. Authors put forward a hypothesis of there being some determinants, which in combination influence speed reduction. To corroborate the hypothesis on the combined impact of the transition zone features on speed reduction in the village transition zones and to validate the established relationships the authors conducted verification study in transition zones containing chicanes or central islands. To verify this hypothesis the authors studied twenty transition zones and managed to confirm the hypothesis at 95% confidence level. The authors used previously adopted binary methods, verified the previously defined factors and added a few new determinants. The contribution of this study is a further investigation of the synergy effect of various relevant factors and the findings can assist in planning new transition zones or suggest additional measures to achieve the desired speed reduction in existing transition zones.

Abstract:
Older people have a greater array of choices for retirement living than any other generation before them. Deciding on where to live is a major dilemma for them. What are the factors that contribute to this making this life-changing decision? How do older people cope with the transition to new accommodation? This research considers the experience of older people who have made the shift to a retirement complex. It also contemplates their attitudes and perceptions and those of older people who may, at some point in their lives, have this decision taken from them and find they are directed into care. The focus of the research was to hear and record the ‘voice’ of a purposeful sample of older people by exploring their experience of shifting into one of four levels at retirement complexes; villa, serviced apartment, resthome or hospital. The research also delved into the attitudes towards a potential shift of those who remain in their family home. Thirty-five participants, ranging in age from 66 to 95-years were located into three groups according to their living situation. They were interviewed using an unstructured interview process and information from these interviews was catergorised into sixteen themes. The data were sifted through, in order to discover similarities and differences between participants and groups. Findings were then compared with available literature to offer further endorsement or to proffer an alternative perspective to the existing information. These findings also indicate areas where further research could be carried out to gain a more holistic oversight in order to reduce the stress for older people moving from their family home.

Abstract:
Most of the energy consumption of buildings in Iran comes from oil, gas and electricity sources, while fossil fuel resources are running out in Iran. In addition to that, the country's average energy consumption is higher than other countries and even some oil-rich countries, while government subsidies and cheap oil and gas resources has exacerbated this critical situation. Buildings and houses with an average consumption share of 42.41 percent has a high share of energy consumption of the country and renewable energies are used only marginally. In contrast to this situation, Iranian cities, for thousands of years, have had a low consumption pattern of energy with the use of architectural and urban construction techniques and have come to a permanent and sustainable coexistence with their surroundings. This research seeks to understand the principles and techniques of constructing the traditional urban architecture of Yazd in the centre of Iran to provide in-depth insights toward energy optimization in urban areas. Moreover, the global methods of sustainable urban development are studied and compared to extract a set of guidelines for improving urban conditions in the traditional areas of Yazd. This research is fundamental in terms of orientation, and the purpose is exploration and being applicable. The compilation of the required data is done in two ways firstly) documentary method with the use of historical texts, authoritative writings of historians, and review of urban development plans such as comprehensive and detailed plans, and secondly field observations and meetings with practitioners and faculties have been conducted. Based on the gathered information, analysis of the current situation in the studied area has been carried out using qualitative descriptive method. Finally, with the consideration to the centralized urban management system of Iran, we proposed a method for transferring these results to the administrative sectors?

Barzola, Ubillus Gianella Geraldine. "Centro de Educación Técnico Productivo en el distrito de Villa El Salvador desarrollado mediante una arquitectura con espacios intermedios para adolescentes y jóvenes (CETPRO)." Bachelor's thesis, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10757/652508.

Abstract:
The proposed project is about a CETPRO, a Center for Productive Technical Education whose main users are adolescents and young people from the district of Villa El Salvador district. Statistics show that more than 50% of these users drop out of higher education to enter the labor market without prior preparation. Against this, the main problem that the district has is the lack of infrastructure for the development of a productive technical education, in relation to the industrial zone. Currently, the district only has 12 CETPROS, among them, only one provides specialties of wood, mechanics and textiles, while the others develop specialties of personal aesthetics, confectionery, among others. However, these educational centers do not develop specialties directly related to the industrial zone, of which we have: carpentry, leather and footwear, mechanical metal and textile manufacturing. The project seeks, from these shortcomings, to provide adolescents and young people with a Center of Productive Technical Education with 5 specialties, 4 of them will maintain a relationship with the industrial zone of the district and the last one of administration and commerce for a complete competitive and labor development. Therefore, it is proposed to potentiate the industrial zone and the economic increase of the district. As part of the analysis, it has been possible to recognize and understand the development of technical education projects, locally, nationally and internationally. The use of intermediate spaces has been identified, where users carry out daily and integration activities, which is why the emphasis of the project is “intermediate spaces”. The main objective is to create spaces for mediation and relationship between the different specialties, maintaining a visual, physical and temporal connection between the interior and exterior spaces. Finally, the main motivation of this work is to be able to encourage adolescents and young people to attend a productive technical education, through an infrastructure with adequate spaces and suitable for each specialty. The reason why it is located in Villa El Salvador is because it has various positive aspects that will contribute to the development of the first specialized CETPRO.

This research entails two chapters : the evolution of Qazwin and his bazars; the general presentation of the afore-mentioned and the presentation of the architecture of four major caravanserais. In the first part three chapters are dedicated to the identification of a round sassanid town, original heart of qazwin, the reconstruction of two satellite towns from the beginning of the islamic period, the study, the location and the reconstruction of remparts surrounding these three towns, forming the pre-mongol city. We will review the intra-mural development of bazars on the rayy-baghdad and rayy-tabriz axes, and locate the town quarters according to an inscription in the masdjed djame - an important suljucid document describing the course of the ganat in the same period. The fourth chapter deals with the reduction in size of the town after the mongol invasion; its expansion as the un-walled capital city of the sefevids, the reconstruction of royal buildings gardens, palaces, two large squares and their subsequent influence on the spontaneous development of bazars are the subject matters of the fifth chapter. The last chapter is dedicated to the study and reconstruction of Qazwin fortifications during the qadjar period, together with a study of town quarters the building of the shah mosque and its influence on the evolution of bazars. In conclusion we will stress the major factors responsible for the evolution of Qazwin : temporary factors - masdjed djame, palaces, gateways, squares and the town's topography- and the constant geographical situation of Qazwin on major communication routes and axes; we will define Qazwin as the oldest sefevid prototype at the origin of the Isfahan urbanism; and review official criteria such as the safeguard of historical monuments and the bazar. In the second part we will study the evolution of octogonal caravanserai entrances into large cruciform ensembles situated in the centre of the carsus. We will study the veined vaulting methods, theory and practise in architectural ornamentation and the widespread of enamelled brick and tile decorations during the sefevid and qadjar periods

Abstract:
AbstractIn this field survey of seed system dynamics in Myanmar, the authors note that the country’s dominant system of traditional agriculture faces pressure from the introduction of ‘improved’ varieties and shifts in policy. However, farmers—from small and subsistence growers to large-scale rice producers—continue to raise indigenous species. One is chinbaung, the collective term for several varieties in the genus Hibiscus. The authors traced differences in chinbaung cultivation and use among places, and examined production systems in three villages in central arid zone, each sited in a geographically distinct locale. They found that a local festival popular with seed sellers has become a prime conduit for disseminating diverse genetic resources. Poe Yon, a guild of agricultural brokerage firms with hubs in cities across the country, meanwhile involves firms and farmers in a unique relationship that ensures broader distribution. Ultimately, the autonomy of farmers has enabled agrobiodiversity to thrive in Myanmar—a success, the authors note, that agricultural policymakers should heed.

Abstract:
AbstractIn a typical Nigerian village, the majority of the population comprises old people who are mostly economically unproductive due to reduced or loss of physical strength brought about by ageing and ill health. Many of these rural old people still work, and do so outside the formal sector, and are particularly susceptible to the effects of climate variability and change. Few studies have reported on climate change and the rural aged and there is a research gap as regards rural elderly peoples’ perception of climate variability impact on them. Since little is known about their perception of climate variability impacts and implications on the rural aged especially in relation to their livelihood activities in Sub-Saharan Africa, this chapter therefore examined the impact of climate variability on the livelihood security of the rural aged in different ecological zones of Nigeria. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used for data collection. Qualitative data were obtained through interviews with four aged and four aged women selected purposively in each rural community and analyzed using Content Analysis Method. Quantitative data were obtained through structured questionnaire administered to an aged male and an aged female population available in selected houses (the aged are people 60 years and over in age) in selected rural communities in selected ecological zones of Nigeria. Where there was no combination of the two (aged men and aged women), either of the two was also sufficient. It was discovered that the ageds’ experiences of climate variability impact relate to the prevailing climate variability characteristic of each ecological zones. The impact on their livelihood in these zones is seen in terms of livestock death, lack of pastures for herds, scarcity of water, pest invasion, delayed planting crop failure, need for irrigation, water logging, drowning of small animals, human and animal illness. This means that planning decisions related to climate change issues should take cognizance of the views of the aged populations especially of those residing in rural areas as they are the most affected by the impact.

Abstract:
AbstractThe impacts of climate change are already being felt on human and environmental systems, with the brunt of the impacts being felt by communities in the Global South, particularly small-holder farmers due to their poverty levels and greater direct dependency on natural resources for their livelihoods. Hence, there is a need to understand how to build small-holder farmers’ resilience to climate change. Climate change adaptation strategies need to build livelihood resilience in the face of climate change as well as address the factors that contribute to farmers’ vulnerability. This chapter draws from a mixed-method study conducted in three villages each in a different agro-ecological zone in the Kilimanjaro region, Tanzania, to explore how to build farmers’ livelihood resilience through addressing factors that increase livelihood vulnerability to climate change. These farmers’ livelihoods are vulnerable because of both the impacts of climate variability on the farmers’ livelihood assets and certain social and environmental structures and characteristics. Building small-holder farmers’ livelihood resilience that can ensure the desired levels of livelihood outcomes in the face of climate variability and change, requires integration of strategies across household resource management as well as farm-based livelihood assets, and a holistic rather than piecemeal approach to small-holder farmers’ livelihoods.

The house is located in the municipality of Fontanars, on the outskirts of the village surrounded by large acreage. The project seeks the maximum environmental and landscape integration because of its border location between a zone of pine forests and the grapevine fields, being practically diluted in the vegetation. Abstract:
Shenzhen is a lengendary city booming out from a small fishing village within ten years. It is situated at the south end of China, along eastern side of the Pearl River opening to the South China Sea. As one of the earliest of four Special Economic Zones in China since 198 1, Shenzhen has enjoyed a set of privileged economic policies and turned into an energetic metropolis with population of over three million. According to the strategic planning, Shenzhen will expand to an area of nearly 2000 square kilometers from 300 square kilometers right now. The local government seeks to realize 100% urbanization in Shenzhen in a short time. In other words, the whole outskirts and rural area will be urbanized. In the conprehensive plannning, the surburb, formerly Baoan county, is becoming another two districts (Baoan and Longgang) besides the existing three districts (Luohu, Futian, and Nanshan). The grouped structure of urban layout in the planning attempts to organize the present villages and towns in the outskii into 8 groups (4 in each district), which are assigned different priority urban bctions such as transportation, communication, industry, tourism, district centre, etc. Generalization of the project of Longgang District Planning Our project is concerned with the zone planning ofthe central group in Longgang district. It consists of Longgang, Pingdi, and Pingdi Centre, covers an area of over 180 square kilometers, and holds population of 200,000. According to the strategic plan, the group is to develop into the future admistrative, commercial, and cultural center of Longgang district. The study of urban design is one important field in our project.

Abstract:
As one of the leading factors of China's economic growth, Shanghai has ranked atop of global metropolitan. Recently, Shanghai has just completed the compilation of a new version of Shanghai 2035 Master plan. Under the guidance of ‘outstanding global city’ of Shanghai, one of the most remarkable changes is the redefinition of cities and regions. This master plan introduces a five-level spatial layout structure system of 'Central Activity Zone-Main City Zone-Suburban Town Circle-Near Shanghai Collaborative Zone-Yangtze River Delta Regional Urban Agglomerations'. The Central Activity Zone is the core area of the main city, the Main City Zone is the key upgrading area around the main city, the Suburban Town Circle is the suburban development complex composed of the suburban New city-new town-ordinary town and village. the Near Shanghai Collaborative Zone emphasizes the strategic coordination and interactive promotion between Shanghai and its surrounding areas, and the Yangtze River Delta Regional Urban Agglomerations refers to Shanghai driving more than ten cities in the Yangtze River Delta to form a world-class metropolis area. In different spatial scales, this pattern has given a coordinated and unified spatial planning arrangement for urban and rural areas and different regions, which provides a guideline for the world's megacities' spatial planning. The disadvantage is that the multi-scale spatial governance system matched with the multi-scale spatial layout structure system has not yet matured in Shanghai and its surrounding areas, resulting in difficulties in planning and implementation. Now, China is commencing a large-scale reform of its spatial planning system, which offers a great opportunity for the implementation of new planning concepts.

Abstract:
Between April 2014 and March 2018, the SWIFT Consortium, led by Oxfam with Tearfund and ODI as members, carried out the 'SWIFT 1' project in DRC and Kenya to provide access to water and sanitation and to promote basic hygiene practices. In DRC, the consortium worked with implementing partners HYFRO, CEPROSSAN, and PPSSP in rural and semi-urban areas in three eastern provinces – North Kivu, South Kivu and Maniema. This Effectiveness Review evaluates the success of this project to increase the sustainability of water and sanitation systems and services. It focuses on measuring benefits attributable to additional activities the project carried out in rural areas, above and beyond the national ‘Villages et Ecoles Assainis’ (VEA) approach. Using a quasi-experimental evaluation design, impact is assessed among individuals and their households in intervention and comparison communities in Kirotshe and Mweso Health Zones in North Kivu.
