Full textThe populating of argentina during the period of spanish colonisation, helped to develop on cultural identity with the appropriation of land and the exploitation of beef (carne). It is realistic to say that beef has played a cultural role, not only for its very important place in the economy, but also because of its presence throughout history. It was the axis of thought, poetry, literature and language ; and a most important lever for politics, economics, evolution and revolutions of the country from the outset to the present day. The author explains what were the reasons for this country becoming the most important meat producer in the world during the 1900s and why it consequently disappeared from international markets. To day, however, a new beginning is in the offing with new growing markets, new consumers and new approaches to nature. Argentina which is showing the way to other countries in term of management, must take advantage of these opportunities. The large pampa spaces which have preserved the quality of land for agriculture and cattle, are a real chance for the future of humanity. To day "quality first" is the new slogan for argentina beef on the world market

Full textThis research was conducted on the basis of over 64,000 bone remains from 39 chronostratigraphic units gathered from 7 sites located throughout the city of Tours and its immediate surroundings. The objective of this study was to use this unprecedented collection to size the economic, cultural and social dimensions of the city from the 14th to the 17th century through faunal remains. Thanks to the analysis of the proportions of species of animals eaten by age and gender, it is possible to define the main trends of meat supply in Tours over the period of time considered as well as to describe the many different ways of acquiring domestic and wild animals. In order to cater to its cattle need, Tours used local livestock bred for meat as well as milk and wool production. This research also sheds light on the industrial processing of beef carcasses (meat processing and fat collection). It is also possible to define the meat diet of city dwellers and of various social contexts of the city, highlighting for instance the difference in the meat diet of the religious elite, who ate prime cuts, and the rest of the population, more specifically city shopkeepers and craftsmen, whose diet mainly comprised of offal

Full textIn the 1920s, a new kind of food flourished in American cities before taking hold of the highways and the suburbs, and settling as a lasting symbol of American culture and soft power: fast food. Fast food franchises rapidly conquered the nation, with McDonald’s as their undisputed leader. Many studies have considered the United States through its unique relationship to fast food, but few have explored the way in which this industry is intertwined with carnism, the ideology according to which it is normal, natural and necessary for human beings to eat other animals as well as products obtained through their exploitation (eggs, dairy). This thesis studies American culture through the prism of fast food and carnism. Following into the footsteps of critical animal studies, it endeavors to restore the visibility of the victims exploited and slaughtered for food on a massive scale. It deals with the impact that fast foods have had on American culture and American politics, and seeks to determine whether the ultra-carnism of these restaurants has spawned a specific, supersized American carnism, which, through globalization, has spread to many “McDonaldized” nations. As carnism is a diet which relies on massive animal slaughter, this work understands it as a violent phenomenon, although this violence is often unnoticeable, as it is associated with the systematic invisibilization of its victims

Full textThe present thesis examines the components of an original socio-economic organizational model specific to the Internet which is represented through portals. The study considers various attempts at Internet services market structuring in the time period between 1993 and 2004. The core assumption is that a socio-economic model of the Internet is based on the concept of the one-stop service-provider. The crucial function of the Internet, namely that of intermediator, is carried out either by "metamediators" operating in an integrated and proprietary environment based on access and guidance resources or by "inframediators" specializing in mediation resources. The prescriber function, aggregating content and service providers function, concentration of revenues function, access function, as well as trusted third-party function are developed individually by these two categories of market players. In either case, a specific socio-economic organization emerges

Full textThis work attempted to make understandable and to explain how a production of space is established in a small portion of a big city. The object of this study is Granja Viana area located in Cotia city, near São Paulo. This area has been privatized and developed in a hierarchical way, and the means that influenced and still influence the building up and the maintenance of noble places and peripheries in a same region are strictly related to a capital grow strategy thru the real estate market. The \"sold\" Granja Viana carries an ideal of quality life associated to refinement and security, which creates an identity to the offered enterprises. But there is something else in this space, which is not always evident that is diversities and conflicts. Old and new in this region as well as abundance and scarcity, maintain an invariable make and remake of a heterogeneous space.
