Abstract:
We propose studying the variations of volume of implicit objects during an animation according to several points of view: choice of the function of density, variations of parameters such as the iso-value and the radius of influence for a given function, variations of the parameters inherent in a particular function. Modification of parameters of the function of density must be carried out with care. There are no rules concerning these variations. To avoid the non-monotonous variations, it is necessary to choose a function of density beforehand and study the intervals of variation of its parameters. A new discretization makes it possible to locate these variations for a later use in a process of control of these variations.

Abstract:
Marine diesel engine excitation can occur from the cycle-to-cycle variation in the engine output. The cycle-to-cycle variation in maximum cylinder pressure (Pmax) is often used to represent this variation. Earlier studies examined the correlation between the cycle-to-cycle variation in the maximum cylinder pressure (Ρmax), pressure impulse (PI) and ignition delay (ID) for the case of constant injection setting. This paper summarizes the results of systematic experiments to determine the cycle-to-cycle variations when the injection timing is changed. In these tests the cycle-to-cycle variations in the maximum cylinder pressure (Pmax), ignition delay (ID), and corresponding pressure impulse (PI) are examined for a single-cylinder test diesel engine at various speeds and compression ratios. Comparisons show that the cycle-to-cycle variations of the diesel engine power output are strongly affected by the injection timing. The best parameter for describing the cycle-to-cycle output variation is shown to depend on the specific engine test condition.

Abstract:
The paper illustrates the results of a correlation study focusing on linguistic variation in an Italian region, Tuscany. By exploiting a multi-level representation scheme of dialectal data, the study analyses attested patterns of phonetic and morpho-lexical variation with the aim of testing the degree of correlation between a) phonetic and morpho-lexical variation, and b) linguistic variation and geographic distance. The correlation analysis was performed by combining two complementary approaches proposed in dialectometric literature, namely by computing both global and place-specific correlation measures and by inspecting their spatial distribution. Achieved results demonstrate that phonetic and morpho-lexical variations in Tuscany seem to follow a different pattern than encountered in previous studies.

Abstract:
A short-time variability study of a solar active region simultaneously at 6 and 2 cm wavelengths was carried out using the VLA. The observations show interesting uncorrelated brightness temperature variation at the two wavelengths. The observed low brightness temperatures indicate that the emission is mainly originating from the chromosphere - corona transition region.A transition region model with constant pressure and power-law temperature variation as a function of height has been assumed to analyse the data. The uncorrelated variation of the observed brightness temperature at the two wavelengths suggest different dominant emission mechanisms (bremsstahlung at 2cm and gyro-resonance at 6cm) operative at the two wavelengths. It is shown that an independent variation of a few percent in the magnetic field (900 ±45 G) and a factor of two variation in the density (2 to 4 × 1010 cm−3) over a time scale of few hours is required to explain the uncorrelated brightness temperature variations at the two wavelengths.

Abstract:
Cycle-by-cycle variations of natural gas direct injection (CNG DI) combustion were studied by using a rapid compression machine. Results show that CNG DI combustion can realize high combustion stability with less cycle-by-cycle variation in the maximum pressure rise, the maximum rate of pressure rise and the maximum rate of heat release at the given equivalence ratios. Mixture stratification and fast flame propagation with the aid of turbulence produced by the high speed fuel jet are considered to be responsible for these behaviours. Cycle-by-cycle variations in combustion durations and combustion products present higher magnitudes than those of maximum pressure rise and maximum rate of heat release. Cycle-by-cycle variations of CO and unburned CH4 show an interdependence with the variation of the late combustion duration, and the variation of NO x shows an interdependence with the variation of the rapid combustion duration. Cycle-by-cycle variations are found to be insensitive to the equivalence ratios in CNG DI combustion.

Abstract:
This paper presents an investigation of the effect of load variation on gear tooth surface micropitting, for an application in planet gears in a wind turbine gearbox. To study the effect of load variation, two methods are employed: an experimental testing of gear micropitting under variable loading and a probabilistic analysis of gear contact stress and specific lubricant film thickness variations using the ISO Technical Report ISO/TR 15144-1:2010. The load variation of wind turbine gearbox is derived from SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) data recorded in operation. Both experimental and analytical results show that high levels of contact stress, load variations and repeated load cycles are determinant factors for the initiation and propagation of micropitting of gear tooth surfaces.

Abstract:
Forty years of statistical database analyses have demonstrated the existence of unwarranted practice variation in care delivery, that is, variations independent of medical need, evidence, or patient preference. Alas, little is known about the underlying mechanisms and thus finding interventions to reduce unwarranted variations remains difficult, hampering quality, equity, and efficiency of care. Whereas statistical analyses describe deviations from ideal patterns, ethnographically inspired analyses aim at understanding when, how, and why variations occur in practice. Based on case studies derived from shadowing emergency physicians, I demonstrate that analyzing practice variation in practice helps to (a) advance the understanding of mechanisms and (b) evaluate/expand the existing repertoire of interventions. Results revealed unmet expectations and new sources of known variations as well as interventions complementing systemic changes with those that empower individuals to better cope with the existing system. These findings highlight the benefits of mixed-methods for understanding and tackling practice variation.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study, as the first step toward clarifying the pollutant transport mechanism of sediments, is to clarify the characteristics of the seasonal changes of surface sediment composition in estuaries based on observation. Remarkable seasonal variations are found in the particle size distributions and the concentrations of the constituents of the surface sediments, though the patterns of the variations are different in each estuary observed. The seasonal variations of the concentrations show good correspondence to those of the particle size distributions. One cause of the seasonal variation is the variation of river discharges. When the sediment size in the Asahi River estuary, Okayama prefecture, became finer, the fresh water inflow to the estuary was about 2.5-3.5 times as much as ordinary water runoff (100-150m3/s) and the change was completed in about 10 days. On the other hand, the change to coarser sediment was completed in a day, by the inflow of over 400m3/s.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate the variations as well as the length of A. cystica and its branches in pigs using corrosion casting method with the self-polymerising resin Duracryl® Plus. The method included several steps: hepatectomy, precasting treatment, injection of Duracryl, polymerisation of casting medium, corrosive treatment, cleaning of the corrosion casts, air-drying and preservation of casts. The livers were collected from 12 male 6-month-old pigs (crossbred Landrace×Danube White). With regards to the beginning of A. cystica, 4 variations were observed and grouped as follows: variation A  A. cystica detached from R. dexter medialis, together with R. quadratus (variation A1), or alone (variation A2); variation B1 – A. cystica originated from A. gastroduodenalis, or was a branch of the common trunk (R. dexter) (variation B2). The metric data were processed by GraphPad Prism 6 for Windows. Clinically relevant relations between А. сystica, Ductus cysticus, A. celiaca and R. sinister also were described. The new information re-ceived about the blood supply of the gallbladder would contribute to the understanding of the etiology of postoperative complications as a result of surgical interventions in this location and for their prevention.

Abstract:
A dual probe non-contact ball roundness measurement method is presented in this paper. With two probes aligned in opposite directions, the direct measurement of diameter variation can be obtained. The relationships between diameter variation and out of roundness of a precision ball are discussed. Attempts of error separation using multiple measurements are carried out and the eccentricity of ball and spindle axis is measured. Measurement results indicated that other than the spindle radial run out, which is synchronous in nature, there also exists high frequency non-synchronous variations. Such non-synchronous errors can be effectively eliminated with the dual probe arrangement for diameter variation measurement. The measurement results showed that such set up is capable of measuring high precision balls for diameter variation and out of roundness with uncertainty of less than 10nm. Single measurement can be completed in 10 seconds with over 10,000 data points. Faster measurement is possible with improved air bearing spindle. The method is suitable for online application of precision ball diameter variation and out of roundness measurement.

The occurrence rates of the substorms and geomagnetic storms, including moderate (-50nT≥Dst>-100nT) and intense (-100nT≥Dst>-250nT) storms, exhibit a significant semi-annual variation (periodicity ∼6 months), while the super storms (Dst≤-250 nT) and HILDCAAs do not exhibit any clear seasonal feature. The geomagnetic activity indices Dst and ap exhibit a semi-annual variation, while AE exhibits an annual variation (periodicity ∼1 year). The annual and semi-annual variations are attributed to the annual variation of the solar wind speed Vsw and the semi-annual variation of the coupling function VBs (where V = Vsw, and Bs is the southward component of the interplanetary magnetic field), respectively. We present a detailed analysis of the annual and semi-annual variations and their dependencies on the solar activity cycles separated as the odd, even, weak and strong solar cycles.

Abstract:
Belian wood is very well known building construction material and been used since long time ago for both structural and non-structural elements. Somehow belian wood buildings which have been being exist for many years or some functional changes in use need structural strengthening. One of the most popular strengthening method is concrete jacketing as it is practical and mechanically increase the capacity of existing structures. This research is conducted in order to experimentally study on the capacity increase of the belian wood strengthened with the concrete jacketing and the effectiveness of shear connector used. This research used 15cmx30cm cylinder samples with 8cmx8cm belian wood as the core. There were five variations of shear connectors used. First variation (S1) without shear connector, second variation (S2) with sieve wiring coil, third variation (S3) with 6mm of diameter reinforcement coil, fourth variation (S4) with safety wiring coil, and fifth variation (S5) with 2 inches of diameter nails. There were 10 samples for each variation. All samples were tested and compared to the compressive strength of conventional belian wood without strengthening. It results in third variation with 6mm of diameter reinforcement coil (S3) come out with the highest compressive strength among all with 75.909% of increase whereas the first variation without shear connector (S1) resulting in highest increase of compressive strength after the concrete collapse with 25.493% of increase which showed the importance of shear connector between those different materials.

Abstract:
Background/Purpose To investigate the relationship between anatomical variation of the toe flexor muscles and the resulting variation of toe flexion angle from tendon excursion. Methods Six cadaveric lower extremities preserved by Thiel’s embalming method were evaluated. The toe flexor muscles were distracted individually and toe flexion angles measured. The anatomic variation were observed by gross anatomical dissection. Results The toes with tendinous slips of flexor hallucis longus (FHL) showed similar flexion angles between the FHL and flexor digitorum longus. However, there were differences observed regarding toe flexion and tendon excursion of the flexor digitorum muscle and quadratus plantae due to the anatomic variations. Conclusion The anatomical variation of the toe flexor muscles should be taken into account when evaluating toe function and applying exercise therapy for foot disorders.

Abstract:
BackgroundLittle is known about variations in the provision of chronic care services in primary care.AimTo describe the frequency of chronic care services provided by GPs and analyse the extent of non-random variation in service provision.Design and settingNationwide cohort study undertaken in Denmark using data from 2016.MethodInformation on chronic care services was obtained from national health registers, including annual chronic care consultations, chronic care procedures, outreach home visits, and talk therapy. The associations between services provided, patient morbidity, and socioeconomic factors were estimated. Service variations were analysed, and excess variation related to practice-specific factors was estimated while accounting for random variation.ResultsChronic care provision was associated with increasing patient age, increasing number of long-term conditions, and indicators of low socioeconomic status. Variation across practices ranged from 1.4 to 128 times more than expected after adjusting for differences in patient population and random variation. Variation related to practice-specific factors was present for all the chronic care services that were investigated. Older patients with lower socioeconomic status and multimorbidity were clustered in practices with low propensity to provide certain chronic care services.ConclusionChronic care was provided to patients typically in need of health care, that is, older adults, those with multimorbidity, and those with low socioeconomic status, but service provision varied more than expected across practices. GPs provided slightly fewer chronic care services than expected in practices where many patients with multimorbidity and low socioeconomic status were clustered, suggesting inverse care law mechanisms.

Abstract:
This research includes an introduction, three sections and a conclusion. The introduction highlights the significance of the study: highlighting the quantitative and the qualitative dimensions of prosodic analysis, the problem of the study: the terms describing prosodic variations without considering what they share in common, the objectives of the study: reducing the number of ʿilal by grouping the ones that belong to the same phonemic law, the methodology: the digital syllabification technique that addresses both the quantitative and the qualitative dimensions of phonemic syllables, and a review of relevant literature. The first section addresses the quantitative as well as the qualitative dimensions of the phonemic syllables that make up the rhythmic nuclei in verse foot as represented in the poetic major variation of addition. It also distinguishes between the ʿilal of addition that are limited to the quantitative change and those in which there are both quantitative and qualitative changes. The second section classifies the types of quantitative and qualitative change combinations in ʿilal of addition into four categories. The third section is concerned with studying compound ʿilal- such as the occurrence of two major variations at the same time, or the occurrence of a major variation and a minor variation (ziḥāfāt)- in terms of quantity and quality, and seeks to reach a general criterion that governs the harmony and cacophony of these ʿilal.

Abstract:
Abstract Background & aims : Normally four pulmonary veins open into the left atrium. Frequently there are variations in the number of pulmonary veins opening in to the left atrium. Ectopic beats in atrial fibrillation commonly originates from the ostia of the pulmonary veins. The treatment of atrial fibrillation is by radio frequency ablation of the focus of origin and hence the knowledge of anatomical variation of pulmonary veins is necessary to find the ectopic focus in the origin of atrial fibrillation. Materials and Method : In this study the variation of pulmonary venous ostia pattern in the left atrium was studied in 80 formalin fixed adult cadaveric hearts. Results and Conclusion : 63 hearts showed no variation in the pulmonary venous ostia pattem which accounts for 78.75%, rest of the 17 hearts showed variation in the pulmonary venous ostia which accounts for 21.25%, the variation in the number of pulmonary veins was slightly higher for the left side [11.25%] when compared to the right sided variation [ 10%], the number of hearts which showed bilateral variation was noted in 2 hearts - both showed a single pulmonary vein opening on either side which accounts for 2.5%

Abstract:
As the most reliable alternative energy source for traditional fuel engines, natural gas has been widely used in inland river marine engines. The natural gas engine is faced with the problem of increased cyclic variations under the condition of lean combustion. In this paper, a multi-point injection spark ignition natural gas engine is tested under different lean burn degrees to investigate the correlation between different parameters and cyclic variation, including accumulated heat release, combustion phase and burning rate. The purpose is to clarify the optimized technical route for marine natural gas engine. A new method to quantify the correlation between parameters and cyclic variation is proposed. The maximum explosion pressure of combustion and its phase are used as the parameters to characterize the cyclic variation. Different parameters are then nonlinearly fitted to it, and the R-S value of the fitting is used to quantify the correlation between parameters and cyclic variation. The results show that the correlation between accumulated heat release and cyclic variation is less than 10%. The main factors causing the cyclic variation are the fluctuation of ignition delay and initial flame propagation, whose correlation with cyclic variation is over 80% and 70%, respectively.
