The purpose of the textbook is to help students to master basic concepts and research methods used in mathematical analysis. In part 1 of the proposed cycle of workshops on the following topics: theory of sets, theory of limits, theory of continuous functions; differential calculus of functions of one variable, its application to the study of the properties of functions and graph; integral calculus of functions of one variable: indefinite, definite, improper integrals; hyperbolic functions; applications of integral calculus to the analysis and solution of practical problems. For the development of each topic the necessary theoretical and background material, reviewed a large number of examples with detailed analysis and solutions, the options for independent work. For self-training and quality control of the obtained knowledge provides exercises and problems with answers and guidance. Abstract:
The aim of the tutorial is to help students to master the basic concepts and methods of the study of calculus. Volume 1 explores the following topics: theory of sets, theory of limits; differential calculus of functions of one variable; investigation of the properties of functions and graphing; integral calculus of functions of one real variable (indefinite, definite and improper integrals), the technique of integration; hyperbolic functions; applications to the analysis and solution of practical problems. These topics are studied in universities, as a rule, in the first semester in the framework of self-discipline "Mathematical analysis" or the course "Higher mathematics", "Mathematics". Great attention is paid to comparison of these methods, the proper choice of study design tasks, analyze complex situations that arise in the study of these branches of mathematical analysis. For teachers, students and postgraduate students studying mathematical analysis.

Love, Alan C. Individuation, Individuality, and Experimental Practice in Developmental Biology. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780190636814.003.0008.

Full text
Abstract:
Philosophical analyses of individuals in biology have focused on theories of individuality that derive from evolutionary theory, understood as a fundamental framework that governs all of biology. Less attention has been given to how individuals are determined in experimental practice. The author uses the problem agenda of growth in developmental biology to argue that individuation practices are guided by structured problems, which leads to variable and divergent conceptualizations of what qualifies as an individual. The result is a pluralist perspective on biological individuality in which different kinds of individuals are counted, compared, detected, or tracked in practice. The problem-relative nature of individuation dissolves the so-called problem of biological individuality and captures more accurately how biologists engage in successful practices that contribute to the manipulation, prediction, and explanation of biological individuals.

Full text
Abstract:
Consideration of the client–therapist match as a contributor, predictor, and optimizer of therapeutic change is not new in the behavioral health field. Indeed, it has evolved from two interactive and co-acting histories: (a) changing practices in psychotherapy research and (b) corresponding changes in the way that clinicians have viewed the role of theory in their practices. In the past three and a half decades, research emphasis has changed to increasingly reflect the roles played by client diagnoses, brands of interventions, and the theories that underlie their use. This chapter reviews the history of psychotherapy research and randomized controlled trials (RCTs). It then describes a contemporary view of RCT design that attempts to incorporate contemporary research developments that are bringing together research and practice.

Paauwe, Jaap, and Paul Boselie. HRM and Societal Embeddedness. Edited by Peter Boxall, John Purcell, and Patrick M. Wright. Oxford University Press, 2009. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199547029.003.0009.

Full text
Abstract:
One of the more fundamental aspects of the ongoing debate about the added value of HRM relates to ‘best practice’ versus ‘best fit’. ‘Best practice’ argues for the universal success of certain HR practices while ‘best fit’ acknowledges the relevance of contextual factors. This article argues that differences in institutional settings affect the nature of HRM. To understand this phenomenon, HRM needs additional theory. This article uses ‘new institutionalism’ and the theoretical notions of organizational justice and organizational legitimacy as a better way to understand the shaping of HR policies and practices in different settings. This article offers an explicit account of the importance of societal embeddedness in HRM. As an independent variable, societal embeddedness can have an important influence on the shaping of HR policies and practices and their subsequent effect on performance. It takes a closer look at the field of HRM itself, especially focusing on strategic contingency approaches in HRM.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter focuses on stress testing for myocardial perfusion scintigraphy. Beginning with detail on coronary physiology and exercise testing, it explains the coronary arterial system and the effect of stress methods on flow. By providing practical details on stress testing and exercise stress including equipment, personnel, and patient preparation, this chapter provides a good basis for clinical practice. Information on vasodilator drugs is also provided, with detail on pharmacology, practical considerations when performing the stress test, and adverse effects. Similar detail is provided on dobutamine. A further section details the advantages and disadvantages of methods of stress, including cost considerations, side effects, and variable suitability for a range of patients. A handy and practical algorithm is also provided to aid decision-making for appropriate methods of stress.

Full text
Abstract:
Education in the Global South faces several key interrelated challenges, for which Open Educational Resources (OER) are seen to be part of the solution. These challenges include: unequal access to education; variable quality of educational resources, teaching, and student performance; and increasing cost and concern about the sustainability of education. The Research on Open Educational Resources for Development (ROER4D) project seeks to build on and contribute to the body of research on how OER can help to improve access, enhance quality and reduce the cost of education in the Global South. This volume examines aspects of educator and student adoption of OER and engagement in Open Educational Practices (OEP) in secondary and tertiary education as well as teacher professional development in 21 countries in South America, Sub-Saharan Africa and South and Southeast Asia. The ROER4D studies and syntheses presented here aim to help inform Open Education advocacy, policy, practice and research in developing countries.
