Abstract:
Tato zpráva popisuje  experimentální práci na statistické jazykovém modelování pomocí rekurentních neuronových sítí (RNN). Je zde předložen důkladný přehled dosud publikovaných prací, následovaný popisem algoritmů pro trénování příslušných modelů. Většina z popsaných technik byla implementována ve vlastním nástroji, založeném na knihovně Theano. Byla provedena rozsáhlá sada experimentů s modelem Jednoduché rekurentní sítě (SRN), která odhalila některé jejich dosud nepublikované vlastnosti. Při statické evaluaci modelu byly dosažené výsledky relativně cca. o 2.7 % horší, než nejlepší publikované výsledky. V případě dynamické evaluace však bylo dosaženo relativního zlepšení o 1 %. Dále bylo experimentováno i s modelem Strukturně omezené rekurentní sítě, ale ten se nepodařilo natrénovat k předpokládáným výkonům. Konečně bylo navrženo rozšíření SRN, pojmenované Náhodně prořidlá rekurentní neuronová síť. Experimentálně bylo potvrzeno, že RS-RNN dosahuje lepších výsledků v učení vlastního trénovacího korpusu a kombinace několika RS-RNN modelů přináší o 30 % větší zlepšení než kombinace stejného počtu SRN.

Abstract:

Syftet med studien har varit att undersöka hur grundskolelärare väljer sina undervisningsformer och vilka aspekter som spelar in. I litteraturdelen tar vi bland annat upp bakomliggande faktorer till varför grundskolelärare väljer den undervisningsform som de gör. Vi tar även upp vad eget arbete, traditionell klassundervisning och individualisering innebär. Den empiriska delen består av intervjuer med lärare som undervisar i språk. Lärarna har olika lång yrkeserfarenhet vilket inte var av avgörande betydelse för studiens resultat. Resultatet visar att det finns flera faktorer, som till exempel tid, erfarenhet och personlig övertygelse, som är avgörande för undervisningsvalet. Slutsatsen vi har dragit är att de två mest avgörande faktorerna ändå är personlig övertygelse och erfarenhet.

Abstract:
Inledning: Det är relevant att i dagens samhälle vara en god läsare. Förhoppningsvis är skolan platsen som ska hjälpa eleverna att få ett större intresse för läsning. Därför anser vi att denna studie är aktuell för att få förståelse för var och hur eleverna beskriver sina idealiska lässituationer när det gäller nöjesläsning. Det är av stor vikt att läsplatsen är bearbetad och anpassad av lärare så att eleverna får en möjlighet att kunna läsa. Syfte: Syftet med vår studie är att undersöka eventuella könsskillnader i hur flickor respektive pojkar beskriver en idealisk läsplats samt vilken bokgenre flickor och pojkar föredrar att nöjesläsa. Frågeställningarna vi vill få svar på är: Vad kännetecknar pojkars och flickors idealiska läsplats? Vilken bokgenre väljer pojkar och flickor att nöjesläsa? Metod: Metoden vi har valt att använda är inspirerad av Photo Elicitation Interviews. Dock har vi valt att eleverna kommer att rita istället för att ta bilder. Därefter följer en intervju för att följa upp teckningarna och ta reda på vad eleverna har ritat och anledningen bakom det. Resultat: Resultatet visade olika platser som eleverna hade valt att rita när de tänkte på sina idealiska läsplatser med fokus på nöjesläsning. Resultatet visade bland annat att det var åtta elever som hade ritat någonting som passade in under en av studiens analyskategorin, det vill säga Naturtema. 14 elever hade ritat någonting som hade med det egna rummet att göra. Det kunde bland annat vara klassrummet, sovrummet eller de egna hemmet. En utmärkande analyskategori var där relation står i fokus. Här passade elevteckningar in där motivet var någon form av relation i teckningen. Bland annat syns en familjerelation eller religionstillhörighet. Resultatet angående frågeställningen vilka böcker eleverna föredrog att läsa visade att 12 elever läser helst skönlitterära böcker och de andra åtta föredrog faktaböcker. Slutligen delades resultatet upp i analysavsnittet, i hur många flickor respektive pojkar det var som hamnade under de olika analyskategorierna. Det gjordes för att se om det fanns eventuella könsskillnader. Det som var utmärkande när det gäller flickor och pojkar, var det faktum att flerpojkar föredrog faktaböcker än flickor.

AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Afknouery is ’n algemene verskynsel onder laerskoolkinders. Alhoewel afknouery dikwels as ’n normale deel van die grootwordproses beskou word, dui verskeie ondersoeke op die negatiewe sosiale, sielkundige en fisiese gevolge wat daarmee gepaard gaan. Wanneer ’n kind geboelie word, raak dit noodwendig die hele gesin. Elke gesin het egter unieke eienskappe of maniere om krisisse (soos afknouery) te hanteer en daarby aan te pas. Gesinsveerkragtigheid verwys na die gesin se vermoë om weerstand te bied teen, en te herstel na, ontwrigtende lewensuitdagings. Die doel van hierdie ondersoek was om vas te stel watter gesinskenmerke geassosieer kan word met goeie aanpassing van gesinne waarvan ’n kind geboelie word. Die studiepopulasie was gesinne met laerskoolkinders wat vir ses maande of langer geboelie is in die voorafgaande drie jaar, en wat in die Suid-Kaap woon. Ma’s het as verteenwoordigers van hul gesinne opgetree en namens die gesinne aan die ondersoek deelgeneem. Agt-en-veertig verteenwoordigers van gesinne het elk sewe selfvoltooiingsvraelyste asook ’n biografiese vraelys met twee oop einde-vrae voltooi. Die resultate van die kwalitatiewe data het getoon dat gesinne veral deur die afknouery geraak is deurdat die kinders wat geboelie is, negatiewe emosies soos hartseer ervaar het. Die meeste gesinne het die afknouery hanteer deur met ’n onderwyser, skoolhoof of die beheerliggaam te gaan praat, of deur raad te gee aan die kind wat geboelie is. Die resultate van die kwantitatiewe data, wat met behulp van korrelasies en regressie-ontledings verkry is, het die volgende gesinsveerkragtigheidskenmerke geïdentifiseer: die kwaliteit van gesinskommunikasie, positiewe kommunikasiepatrone wat omgee en ondersteuning oordra, standvastigheid en duursaamheid van die gesinseenheid, die gesin se gevoel van interne sterk punte, betroubaarheid en die vermoë om saam te werk, die gesin se pogings om vernuwend en aktief te wees, om nuwe dinge te probeer en om te leer, die mate waartoe die gesin roetines gebruik en handhaaf, die gesin se klem op die vasstelling van voorspelbare kommunikasie tussen ouer en kind, die gesin se klem op die vasstelling van voorspelbare roetines om ’n kind se gevoel van selfbestuur en orde te bevorder, asook die gesin se klem op saamwees. Die bevindinge van hierdie ondersoek vul ’n leemte in die literatuur oor gesinne waarvan ’n kind geboelie word. Dit kan nuttig aangewend word in die beplanning en ontwikkeling van intervensies om hierdie gesinne te versterk en meer veerkragtig te maak. Die geïdentifiseerde gesinskenmerke laat ook die moontlikheid oop vir verdere navorsing om hierdie kenmerke in meer besonderhede te ondersoek en te beskryf.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Bullying is a common phenomenon among primary school children. Although bullying is often seen as a relatively normal part of growing up, various studies have indicated its negative social, psychological and physical effects. When a child is bullied, the matter inevitably concerns the whole family. However, every family has unique characteristics or ways of handling and adapting to a crisis (such as bullying). Family resilience refers to the family’s ability to withstand and rebound from disruptive life challenges. The goal of this study was to determine which family characteristics can be associated with positive adaptation in families of which a child had been bullied. The study population consisted of families with primary school children that had been bullied for six months or longer over the past three years, and reside in the Southern Cape. Mothers acted as representatives and participated in the study on behalf of their families. Forty eight family representatives each completed seven self-completing questionnaires as well as a biographical questionnaire containing two open ended questions. Results from the qualitative data, which was analysed using content analysis, showed that families were affected by the bullying, especially in the sense that the children that were bullied experienced negative emotions such as sadness. Most of the families coped with the bulling by talking to a teacher, principal or governing body, or by giving advice to the child that had been bullied. Results from the quantitative data, which was analysed using correlations and regression analyses, indicated positive correlations between family adaptation and quality of family communication, positive communication patterns that convey caring and support, fortitude and durability of the family unit, the family’s sense of internal strengths, dependability and the ability to work together, the family’s efforts to be innovative and active, to experience new things and to learn, the degree to which families use and maintain routines, the family’s emphasis on establishing predictable communication between parent and child, the family’s emphasis on establishing predictable routines to promote a child’s sense of autonomy and order, as well as the family’s emphasis on togetherness. The findings of the study fill a gap in the literature about families in which a child has been bullied. The findings can be utilised in the planning and developing of interventions to strengthen these families and to make them more resilient. The identified family characteristics also leave the possibility of further research to investigate and describe these characteristics in greater detail.

Abstract:
Syftet är att undersöka 62 stycken vårdnadshavares beskrivning av hur de motiverar val av förskola med religiös profil utifrån ett fenomenologiskt perspektiv. Vår frågeställning är: Hur beskriver vårdnadshavarna sitt val av förskola? Hur beskriver vårdnadshavarna sina upplevelser av en förskola med religiös profil? Tillsammans med fenomenologi och begreppen fenomen, förförståelse och livsvärld så kom vi till resultatet att det var väldigt individbaserat men att det fanns flera sammanhängande teman. De beskrev valet av förskolan utifrån rekommendationer, personligt besök av förskolan och dess närhet till hemmet. Flera tog upp den religiösa profilen som anledning för val av förskola samt att flera valde förskolan utöver den religiösa profilen. Vi har funnit att vårdnadshavare ser förskolor med specifik profil som ett komplement till barnens utveckling och att det beror mera på deras egen syn på vad förskolan kan bidra till deras barn.

Detta självständiga arbete söker efter musiklärares uppfattningar om grundskolans obligatoriska musikundervisning – att undersöka hur musiklärare samtalar kring val av ämnesinnehåll och härleda kvalitetsuppfattningar, samt relatera dessa till en didaktisk kontext. Musiklärares vardag består av en mängd val. Att välja mellan genre, aktivitet, metod, att välja stoff och/eller låta bli att välja. Musikundervisningen tar form i relation till dessa val, och en utgångspunkt är att med hjälp av kvalitativa intervjuer och observation identifiera vad tre musiklärare verksamma i grundskolan uppfattar som väsentligt i undervisningen – vilket samtidigt säger något om det innehåll som väljs bort.  Undervisning står ständigt i relation till och påverkas av olika fenomen som: läraren, eleven, resurser, tid, gruppstorlek och inte minst politiskt styrda dokument. Musiklärare kan inte enbart fokusera på "utlärande" – lärandeprocesser styrs av balansen mellan läraren, de resurser läraren har till handa och själva samspelet med eleverna. Det perspektiv som anläggs i studien kan beskrivas som en fenomenografi-inspirerad musikdidaktisk undersökning; jag har använt mig av fenomenografiska analysmetoder, vilka kompletterades med en musikdidaktisk läsning av empirin. Den föreliggande analysen visar att brist på tid och det stora elevantalet i förhållande till stipulerade kunskapskrav skapar utmaningar för musiklärarna och deras undervisning. Lärarna känner sig otillräckliga, bland annat när det gäller bedömning, progression och kunskapskrav, och undervisningen karaktäriseras ofta som lösningsorienterad. Av studiens resultat framgår också att lärarens utbildning och tidigare erfarenheter har påverkan på undervisningsinnehållet och trots att kursplanen öppnar mot andra förmågor, är det spel på instrument och det lärande som är kopplat till detta spel, som dominerar musikundervisningen.

I denna uppsats studeras fyra individers väg ut ur olika problematiska livssituationer. Syftet är att belysa vändpunkter och uppbrottsprocesser. Möjlighetsperspektivet, vad det är som fungerar, fokuserades snarare än problembilder. Metoden var kvalitativ med halvstrukturerade intervjuer kring två teman: vändpunkter och vägen ut, i ett livshistoriskt perspektiv. Uppsatsens teoretiska perspektiv utgick från en uppbrottsmodell och ett symboliskt interaktionistiskt perspektiv. Vändpunkterna och vägarna ut har sett olika ut för våra intervjupersoner. Gemensamt för dem alla är att de haft en tydlig upplevelse av en vändpunkt och att stödjande relationer i omgivningen varit viktiga i uppbrottsprocessen. Hos dem alla kan man förstå att det har varit en process över tid som lett fram till den slutliga vändpunkten.

Det är inte bara elever med dyslexi som har läs- och skrivsvårigheter, utan problemet har ökat överallt i vårt moderna samhälle. Kraven på att läsa och ha god läsförståelse ökar i takt med att allt mer information skickas till oss via media, internet och post. Detta problem medförde att vi på den skola jag arbetar startade ett läsprojekt för att öka elevernas läsförståelse och därmed också deras resultat i skolan. Syftet med mitt arbete är att ta reda på vilka svårigheter och orsaker det finns för elever som har läs- och skrivsvårigheter, samt hur man ökar deras läsförståelseförmåga. Kan elever bara genom att läsa mera, kunna förbättra sina prestationer i läsförståelse. För att få ett svar på detta har jag undersökt elevers resultat av läsförståelsediagnoser. Resultaten presenteras utifrån en stanineskala som är en standardskala där elevernas poäng överförs till en niogradig skala. Ett staninevärde på fem motsvarar medelvärde. Sammanlagt nittiosju elever i samma ålder har kartlagts under högstadietiden. Resultatet vid undersökningen blev att läsförståelsen förbättrades för de svaga läsarna. Det visade sig också att de som var bra i sin läsförståelse i årskurs sju, sänkte sina resultat och närmade sig medelstanine fem. Ökad lästid i skolan har gjort att eleverna ökat sin läsförståelse. Däremot krävs det en utveckling av projektet, där samtalet kring det man läser sätts i fokus. Samtal ökar elevers förståelse och reflekterande.


Abstract

The problem with dyslexia has increased everywhere in our modern society. Requirements of proficiency in reading and comprehension skills, increases at a similar speed to that which information is disseminated. This problem led to a reading project in the school where I work. The aim was to increase pupils reading, comprehension and also their overall performance. Is it a possibility that by just reading more in school, pupils can improve their performance? To find and answer I have researched the pupils results from a reading comprehension diagnosis. The results are presented from a stanine scale, a standard scale where pupils points transfers to a nine degree scale. A stanine value of five is equal to mean and the lowest values are one and two. The reading diagnosis was undertaken by 97 pupils in the same age. The fist was carried out in autumn term of year seven and then every autumn up to year nine. The results show that reading comprehension improved for weaker readers from level one and two in year seven, to level three and four in year nine. The results also showed that pupils with good abilities in year seven lowered their results to middle stanine five in year nine. More time for reading in school shows that pupils increase their reading comprehension. However, the project needs to develop further, with focus on discussions following the reading of a text.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The study was conducted in the Western Cape Province to investigate the effect of soil preparation on selected soil physical properties. This study was necessitated by the negative effects that high soil bulk density has on the growth and production of a vine. Soil preparation in South Africa are applied to remove root limiting layers in the subsoil and to create a larger soil volume for root growth. The question is whether it is always necessary because of the destruction of macropore structure and also the high costs that is involved. The study includes different soil forms, different depths of tillage, different tillage operations and also the change of soil physical properties with time. Soil physical properties that was investigated include, bulk density (cloth method), infiltration (mini disk infiltrometer and double ring infiltrometer), shear strength (pocket vane tester), soil strength (penetrometer) and root distribution (profile wall method). The main finding was that the positive effects of soil preparation were still clear after 25 years. The bulk density, shear strength, penetration resistance and infiltration with the double ring infiltrometer of the deeper soil preparation practices were considerably lower than those of undisturbed soil. Soil preparation shallower than 60 cm recompacted more than the deeper tillage treatments. Hydraulic conductivity with the mini disk infiltrometer yielded mixed results. This was mainly because measurements represented hydraulic conductivity through the whole profile and therefore can be influenced by many factors. Root distribution has increased with depth of tillage and the effect was clear at Nietvoorbij in the deeper (> 60 cm) soil preparation treatments. There were no significant difference between the two soil preparation methods (delve plough and soilmix) at Kanonkop, although the effect of secondary compaction by the soilmix was quite clear. Recompaction over a year was clear in the 2009 and 2010 tillage treatments at Broodkraal. The methods that were used to determine the soil physical properties have all yield good results. At all the sites the tillage treatments generally yielded better results than the undisturbed soils. It was also clear that the longer the time after tillage the smaller become the difference between the tillage treatments and the undisturbed soils. Recompaction did occur and therefore soil preparation might possibly be applied again before new vines wants to be planted.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die studie is in die Wes-Kaap Provinsie gedoen om die effek van grondvoorbereiding op geselekteerde grondfisiese eienskappe te ondersoek. Hierdie studie is genoodsaak deur die nadelige gevolge wat hoë gronddigthede op die groei en produksie van ’n wingerdstok het. Grondvoorbereiding in Suid-Afrika word toegepas om beperkende lae in die ondergrond te verwyder en sodoende ‘n groter grondvolume vir wortelgroei beskikbaar te stel. Die vraag is egter of dit altyd noodsaaklik is weens die vernietiging van voorkeur vloeikanale en die hoë kostes wat daarmee gepaard gaan. Die studie sluit verskillende grondvorms, verskillende dieptes van bewerking en verskillende tipes bewerking in asook hoe die toestande met verloop van tyd verander. Grondfisiese eienskappe wat ondersoek is, sluit in: bulkdigtheid (kluitmetode), infiltrasie (“mini disk” - en dubbelring infiltrometer), skuifsterkte (skroefbladmeter), grondsterkte (penetrometer) en wortelverspreidings (profielwand metode). Die studie is uitgevoer by drie verskillende proeflokaliteite, nl. Nietvoorbij, Kanonkop en Broodkraal. Die vernaamste bevindings was dat die grondvoorbereidingsbehandelings se voordelige effek oor die langtermyn, na 25 jaar, steeds duidelik waarneembaar was. Die bulkdigtheid, skuifsterkte, penetrasieweerstand en infiltrasie met dubbelring infiltrometer van die dieper grondbewerkingspraktyke was aansienlik laer as die kontrole behandelings (onversteurde grond) gewees. Die grondvoorbereidingsaksies vlakker as 60 cm het tot ʼn mate weer herverdig. Hidrouliese geleiding met minidisk infiltrometer het baie wisselvallige resultate opgelewer. Dit is hoofsaaklik omdat die meting die geleiding deur die hele profiel verteenwoordig en daar baie faktore is wat dit kan beïnvloed. Die wortelverspreiding het met diepte van grondbewerking toegeneem en die langtermyn voordelige effek was duidelik by Nietvoorbij in die dieper (> 60 cm) grondvoorbereidingsbehandelings sigbaar. Die twee grondvoorbereidingspraktyke (dolbewerking en “soilmix”) by Kanonkop het nie betekenisvol van mekaar verskil nie, alhoewel die effek van sekondêre kompaksie soos veroorsaak deur die “soilmix” implement, duidelik was. Herverdigting oor die tydperk van ’n jaar was duidelik tussen die 2009- en 2010 bewerking by Broodkraal. Die metingsmetodes waarmee die grondfisiese eienskappe ondersoek is, het almal goeie resultate gelewer. By al die proeflokaliteite het die bewerkingsbehandelings oor die algemeen beter resultate as die kontrole-behandelings (onversteur) gelewer. Hoe langer die tydperk na grondvoorbereiding hoe kleiner was die verskil tussen die bewerkingsbehandelings en die kontrole. Herverdigting het wel voorgekom en daarom sal grondvoorbereiding moontlik weer toegepas moet word wanneer nuwe aanplantings gemaak word.

The purpose of this study was investigating the means which rule the social worker’s choice of institution placing youths and how they match the youth’s individual need compared with the type of home. The questions were: Which significance has the characteristics of the youth and their family for the placing? Which significance has the characteristics of the institution? Which significance has the social workers’ way of working, investigation, theories, economy etc.? A qualitative way of interviewing has been used. Eight interviews were done; six with social welfare secretaries who place youths and two social workers who work with coun­selling and placement. The choice of respondents was made from a systematic selection be­cause they were considered having knowledge of the subject. The interviews were taped, which enabled several revisions. Then concentrations and structural analysis were made in order to look for both common and deviant patterns in the material. The analysis and inter­pretation is based upon the theory of risk, behaviour, response and systems alongside with earlier studies in the subject. The conclusions were that there was a combination of factors which ruled the choice: the need of the youth, earlier experience of institutions, and pro­fes­sional network connections. The social welfare secretary realized the importance of matching but saw difficulties in acute placing and shortage of places. In order to facilitate for the social welfare secretary there is a need for a system where they can get objective informa­tion about the institutions for example from a co-ordinating authority.


Syftet med studien var att undersöka vad som styr socialarbetarens val av institution vid pla­cering av ungdomar och hur de matchar behandlingshem utifrån ungdomens individuella be­hov. Frågeställningarna var: Vilken betydelse för placeringen har egenskaper hos ungdomarna och deras familjer? Vilken betydelse för placeringen har egenskaper hos institutionen? Vilken betydelse för placeringen har socialtjänstens arbetssätt, utredningar, teorier, ekonomi mm? En kvalitativ intervjumetod har använts. Åtta stycken intervjuer gjordes varav sex med pla­ce­rande socialsekreterare och två socialarbetare med rådgivnings- och placeringsfunktion. Ur­valet av respondenterna gjordes utifrån ett systemiskt urval då respondenterna antogs be­sitta relevant kunskap i ämnet. Till grund för analys och tolkning ligger risk-, behovs- och respon­sivitetsteorin, systemteorin samt tidigare forskning i och omkring ämnet. Slutsatsen blev att det som styr valen av institution var en kombination av barnets behov, tidigare erfaren­het av institutioner och professionellt kontaktnät. Socialarbetaren insåg vikten av matchning men såg svårigheter vid akuta placeringar och platsbrist. För att underlätta för social­arbetaren behövs ett fungerande system där de kan få objektiv information om institu­tionerna som exempelvis en samordnande instans.

Goal: The aim of this study is to use the Gestalt approach to explore, and to make use of sandplay to describe and observe the world of the adolescent client, in order to lead the social worker to gain insight and understanding to the world of the adolescent. This study was done because the researcher observed that sandplay achieved very positive effects with children, adolescents and adults. This study was motivated by the desire to provide recommendations to the social workers in practice about the value and use of sandplay in the exploration of the world of the adolescent The literature study focussed on a) the adolescent life-phase in order to determine the specific developmental aspects and characteristics of the adolescent, b) to define the possibilities of sandplay as an exploration medium, as well as c) assessing the Gestalt approach as orientation theory and as practice theory with sandplay. In this research, a qualitative methodology was used combined with a case-study research design. Sandplay was used as a medium for exploration with three adolescent participants. They were selected by means of a non-probability sampling. The researcher used detailed, in-depth, data gathering methods which included six measuring instruments. These instruments included: a standardised questionnaire to give an indication of personality-traits of the participants; two questionnaires to determine the behaviour, thought patterns and domestic circumstances of the participants; semi-structured interview-schedules to explore the sandtrays of the participants; photographs to accurately capture and record the sandtrays; as well as observations recording the behaviour and non-verbal communication of the participants. The researcher concludes that, according to the Gestalt-approach, exploration with sandplay is an effective method to explore the world of the adolescent. This method provides adequate information to the social worker to understand the world of the adolescent client. Sandplay, according to the Gestalt approach, contributes value to social work practice, because it enhances the effectiveness of exploration and intervention. Sandplay provides the social worker with comprehensive information about the adolescent, and enables the social worker to identify the core problem of the adolescent expeditiously. Sandplay involves the adolescent in a sensory, cognitive and emotional manner, which contributes to more information being exposed that leads to more effective interventions. This method is also novel, interesting and challenging to the social worker and the adolescent. The researcher recommends sandplay for the exploration of the world of the adolescent be preceded by establishing a therapeutic relationship with the adolescent. Once a relationship is established a number of sandtrays can be built, and thoroughly explored. The first sandtray should be non-directive. Directive sandtrays are subsequently recommended to explore specific themes and to handle trauma and/or issues which the adolescent may experience. It is also recommended that the social worker utilizes hypotheses, which can be postulated from the symbolic meanings of miniatures, as well as interpretations from other sandplay research in his/her exploration of sandtrays. The social worker, who uses sandplay to explore the world of the adolescent according to the Gestalt approach, should be knowledgeable about sandplay, the symbolic meaning of miniatures, sandplay research and the Gestalt approach as orientation theory and practice theory. This study was done with three Afrikaans-speaking adolescent foster children, and the findings may not apply to other populations. Additional research needs to be done with a wider sample of adolescents, that covers different cultures, language and domestic backgrounds.

Syftet med studien är att få en fördjupad kunskap om hästens betydelse för tjejerna  under studietiden och hur viktiga Naturbruksskolorna är för många elever och då framförallt tjejer. Har hästen betydelse för motivationen till studierna? Studien baseras på kvalitativa intervjuer där jag valt fem elever som går eller har gått på Naturbruksgymnasium med inriktning häst. Inom detta område har det varit svårt att finna tidigare studier och det har forskats mycket lite inom detta område. I mitt resultat har det framkommit att hästen har betydelse för val av skola men den har också betydelse för att frigöra sig från föräldrarna. Hästen har också betydelse för motivationen till studierna under skoltiden. Det framkom även att lärarna har stor betydelse för eleverna under studietiden. Alla eleverna är väldigt nöjda med sitt val av skola och har aldrig ångrat sitt val. Hästen är också en vän att prata med när man har det svårt och man får ansvar när man har en häst att sköta om. Att hålla på med hästar är en livsstil.

The primary objective of this study is to establish a holistic view of performance managementsystem in the Provincial Government and to assess the extent of implementation and the application of performance management, together with the challenges facing the social work managers in this regard. Furthermore it sought to identify the gaps and key priorities required for effective and efficient performance management processes. The study was preceded by a comprehensive literature study whereby the necessisty and purpose of performance mananagement were identified. Furthermore the valuable aspects and the characteristics of performance management in social work have been described. The persons involved in the performance management system were investigated tot determine the nature and scope of the performance managegement system that are implemented. The importance of the participation of both the supervisor (manager) and the social worker was determined. The report highlights the importance of a process approach and uses it as a lens for understanding performance management system. It indicate the change in focus from performance evalution to performanance management, which focuses less on productivity or the input or physical activities applied in achieving the results or outputs as such, but rather on the extent to which predetermined objectives/goals are effectively and efficiently met through the measurement of outputs/results against agreed-upon performance standards. An empirical study wat undertaken where both qualitative and quantitative methodologies were applied to achieve the objective of the research. The quantitative methods comprised out of a questionnaires purely for and data collection and the qualitative approach entailed the open-ended questions in the questionnaire. It sought to identify the gaps and key priorities required for the implentation of an effective and efficient performance management processes. The report highlights the importance of a developmental approach in applying the performance management system.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is a condition which occurs when women drink alcohol during pregnancy. The use of alcohol during pregnancy has permanent and serious consquences which manifests in developmental delays and causes harmful effects to the central nervous system. FAS is seen as completely preventable and irreversable which lasts into adulthood. The prevalence rate of FAS in the Western Cape is the highest in the world. FAS is not just a health problem but also a social welfare problem, since the care for adolescents with FAS brings about exceptional demands for the carer. For this reason it became vital to explore the educational roles of the carers of adolescents with FAS. This research study firstly describes the characteristics of FAS within the physical, cognitive and social development of the adolescents with FAS. Secondly, the study describes and explores the educational roles of the carers of adolescents with FAS. The study combines both quantitative and qualitative research. The exploratory and descriptive research designs were used and a purposive sampling method was used. The participants were interviewed individually with the help of a semi-structured questionnaire. The findings of the empirical investigation show that the carers of FAS adolescents according to their perceptions and experiences know what is expected of them within their respective educational roles and they do make an effort to fulfil this role to the best of their ability. Further findings show that due to aspects like poverty and illiteracy of the participants, the carers need the support of the social worker in order for them to fulfil their educational roles. Recommendations resulting from the empirical investigation indicated that social workers need to support the carers of adolescents with FAS in parenting programmes which is simple and practical for the carers to understand and to implement. Further recommendations focus on awareness programmes and actions where the carers also take part in educating the community in terms of FAS. Through these actions the carers of adolescents with FAS can build a support system for themselves whithin the community. Therefore the community can be utilized by the carers of adolescents with FAS as a valuable resource in the fulfilment of their educational roles.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Fetale-alkoholsindroom (FAS) is ‘n toestand wat veroorsaak word wanneer vroue alkohol drink tydens swangerskap. Alkoholgebruik tydens swangerskap het blywende en ernstige nagevolge wat manifesteer in ontwikkelingsagterstande en skade in die senuweestelsel. FAS word dus beskou as heeltemal voorkombaar, maar is onomkeerbaar en duur voort tot in volwassenheid. Die voorkomsyfer van FAS is wêreldwyd die hoogste in veral die Wes-Kaap. FAS is nie net ‘n gesondheidsprobleem nie, maar ook ‘n maatskaplike probleem aangesien die versorging van adolessente met FAS besondere eise aan versorgers stel. Om hierdie rede is dit noodsaaklik om die opvoedingsrolle waaroor versorgers van FAS-adolessente moet oor beskik te ondersoek. Hierdie navorsingstudie beskryf eerstens die kenmerke van FAS binne die fisiese-, kognitiewe- en sosiale ontwikkeling van die adolessent met FAS. Tweedens beskryf studie die opvoedingsrolle waaroor versorgers van FAS-adolessente moet oor beskik. Die studie kombineer beide kwalitatiewe en kwantitatiewe navorsing. Die verkennende en beskrywende navorsingsontwerp is gebruik en daar is ‘n doelbewuste steekproef gedoen. Individuele onderhoude is met die deelnemers gevoer met behulp van gestruktureerde vraelyste. Die bevindinge van die empiriese ondersoek toon dat die versorgers van FAS-adolessente volgens hulle persepsie en belewenisse, weet wat van hulle verwag word in die verskillende opvoedingsrolle en dat hulle wel pogings aanwend om hierdie rolle te probeer vervul. Verdere bevindings toon dat as gevolg van aspekte soos armoede en ongeletterdheid van die deelnemers die maatskaplike werker ondersteuning sal moet bied aan die versorgers van FAS-adolessente in die vervulling van hul opvoedingsrolle. Aanbevelings vanuit die empiriese ondersoek dui daarop dat die versorgers van FASadolessente deur veral die maatskaplike werker ondersteun moet word deur ouerleidingsprogramme wat eenvoudig en prakties aangebied behoort te word sodat die versorgers die inhoud maklik kan verstaan en kan toepas. Verdere aanbevelings fokus op bewusmakingsprogramme en -aksies waarin die versorgers ‘n rol kan speel om sodoende die gemeenskap ook op te voed ten opsigte van FAS. Hierdeur kan die versorgers van FASadolessente vir hulleself ‘n ondersteuningsnet binne die gemeenskap bou en die gemeenskap as ‘n waardevolle hulpbron benut in die vervulling van hul opvoedingsrolle.

Which procedures should an employer be following if he wants to discharge an employee, who is being held in prison for conduct not related to his job. The reasonability of the discharging action should meet two requirements. First it there must be a substantive reasonable reason for the discharge and secondly every discharge must be according to a specific process. According to article 188 of the Labour Relations Act, 1995 the employee could only be discharged on 3 grounds. These grounds are unsuitability, misconduct and the operational requirements of the employer. The specific situation represented itself in the case of Num v CCMA 2009 18 LC. There were no procedures set out for handling the situation in the case and left a loop hole in the Labour legislation. In this dissertation the research will be based on finding a solution to the problem the employer is facing regarding the discharge of employees in jail for conduct not related to their jobs.

Daar kan nie van leerders (wat geleer is wat om te leer, hoe om dit te leer, wanneer en waar om dit te leer) verwag word om skielik verantwoordelikheid vir hulle eie leer in ons moderne informasie-era te aanvaar nie. Die probleem is dat die leerders nie blootgestel of die geleentheid gebied word om hulle eie leer te bestuur nie. Daarom moet onderrigmateriaal verseker dat die leerders blootgestel word aan die geleentheid om hulle eie leer te bestuur. Deur die gebruik van bestaande onderrigmateriaal, wat nie selfgerigte leer (SGL) koester me, kan leerders geforseer word om afbanklike leerders te bly en nie te ontwikkel tot lewenslange en selfgerigte leerders (leerders wat bevoeg is om op hulle eie te kan leer) nie. Verder veroorsaak die gebruik van bestaande onderrigmateriaal deur opvoeders dat die unieke behoeftes van die leerders in 'n klas nie in ag geneem word nie en dat opvoedergerigte leer in plaas van selfgerigte leer bevorder en aangemoedig word. Die rede hiervoor is dat opvoeders, weens 'n gebrek aan kennis van SGL, nie van beter weet nie. Die betroubaarheid van selfgerigte leer word versterk wanneer die opvoeders en die skeppers van onderrigmateriaal 'n deeglike begrip en kennis van die SGL-proses het. Die primere doel van hierdie navorsing is om kriteria te ontwikkel, wat as 'n riglyn kan dien om onderrigmateriaal wat SGL koester te ontwikkel- dus materiaal wat rigting aan die leerders gee om hulle eie leer te bestuur. Die kriteria is gevorm na aanleiding van 'n literatuurstudie van bestaande navorsing oor SGL en kundiges se evaluering van die kriteria. Na aanleiding van die kundiges se kommentaar is onderrigmateriaal, wat SGL koester, ontwikkel en weer aan die kundiges vir evaluering voorgele.

I de nordiska länderna har man länge strävat efter ett mer jämställt samhälle. En av de politiska åtgärder man satsat på för att uppnå detta är mäns föräldraledighet. Under många år har stora satsningar gjorts för att öka mäns uttag av föräldraledighet men lite har egentligen hänt. Kvinnor tar fortfarande ut den största delen av föräldraledigheten och det största ansvaret för barnen. Kvinnors möjligheter på arbetsmarknaden hindras självklart om ansvaret för barn och hem inte är jämställt fördelat. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie är att genom tidigare forskning undersöka vilka faktorer som påverkar mäns föräldraledighet. Studiens resultat innefattar tolv studier, nio artiklar och tre avhandlingar. Studierna lästes igenom och faktorerna som påverkar fäders föräldraledighet delades in i tre övergripande områden: arbetsrelaterade förhållanden, ekonomiska och socioekonomiska faktorer samt livserfarenheter och förhållningssätt. Både kvantitativa och kvalitativa studier har genomförts med syfte att förstå vad som påverkar fördelning av föräldraledighet. De kvantitativa studierna pekade på olika faktorer såsom inkomst, utbildningsnivå, arbetsplatsfaktorer, antalet barn, ålder, civilstånd och kvotering som på olika sätt påverkade fördelningen av föräldraledigheten. De kvalitativa studierna pekade på faktorer som männens valmöjlighet, klasstillhörighet, genus, föräldrarnas barn– respektive yrkesorientering som faktorer som påverkar pappors föräldraledighet.

South African adolescents are at high risk of becoming victims of sexual abuse. However, research and experience by practising social workers show that adolescents are reluctant to report sexual abuse immediately. This could be due to the lack recognised guidelines available by which to report abuse and receive the necessary help. The purpose of the research was to investigate the reasons why adolescents fail to report sexual abuse in order to establish relevant guidelines. This would also determine the role of the forensic social worker in the report of sexual abuse by adolescent victims. The research followed a combined quantitative and qualitative approach. 220 adolescents from two high schools and six Welkom social workers were involved in the investigation. Both groups of participants completed questionnaires while the social workers were also involved in a focus group. Forensic social workers work is a new field of specialisation in the social work profession. There is a serious misconception about the role of the forensic social worker not only among other practising social workers, but also among the general public and adolescents in specific. The forensic social worker can play an important role in establishing guidelines for the report of sexual abuse by adolescent victims. The findings clearly showed that adolescents do not report sexual abuse within the family. The abused adolescent becomes a victim as South Africa does not yet have definite guidelines available for the report of sexual abuse. The study found that the forensic social worker has a definite role to play in the report of sexual abuse by adolescents.

Abstract:

The purpose with this study is to enlighten and discuss the information and communication which is spreading through social media, about the tourist operators and also to examine the operators view on social media. Social media can be described as a tool to use word of mouth on the Internet. To make this possible, five actors involved in tourism were picked on Gotland and interviewed for a content analysis. The results showed that the use of social media as an information channel before the consumer buys a trip, has increased. The study also shows that the selected actors have a lot of work to do, before they understand how to use the social media in their best interest for further developing their companies. But as an overall result we can conclude that “word of mouth” is the most desired information for both producers and consumers, especially the positive “word of mouth”, from the producer’s prospect of view. Social media contributes for the possibility to make the information available for more people in a faster way.

In die studie is daar gebuik gemaak van die kombinasie van ‟n kwalitatiewe en kwantitatiewe navorsingsbenadering, te wete „n geskeduleerde, semi-gestruktureerde vraelys wat beide oop en geslote vrae inhou wat uiteengesit is op inligting wat verkry is uit die literatuurstudie. Die resultate het grotendeels die literatuurstudie bevestig, te wete dat maatskaplike werkers „n breë spektrum van dienslewering tydens die pleegsorgproses implementer, asook die ouderdom en ontwikkelingsvlak van „n pleegkind in ag neem tydens „n pleegsorgplasing. Eersgenoemde dienste word gerig tot die pleegouers, biologiese ouers, asook die betrokke pleegkinders ten einde dienslewering in die verband te bevorder. Maatskaplike werkers se aandeel in die aanpassingsproses van „n pleegkind in middelkinderjare blyk wisselend te wees. Beperkte tyd en „n groot werkslading verhoed maatskaplike werkers om op „n kontinue basis ondersteuning vir die aanpassing van „n pleegkind in middelkinderjare, sowel as vir die pleegouers in „n pleegsorgplasing te bied. In die aanbevelings is daar gefokus op drie areas insluitende, die bydrae van „n maatskaplike werker, pleegkinders en pleegsouers. Die behoefte aan meer opleiding in die gebied van pleegsorg en ondersteuning in „n pleegsorgplasing, aan maatskaplike werkers, pleegouers en pleegkinders is geïdentifiseer as die sentrale temas. As aanbeveling vir verdere navorsing kan gefokus word op verskeie faktore wat bydraend is tot onsuksesvolle aanpassing binne „n pleesorgplasing met die oog op „n in-diepte beskrywing van hierdie fenomeen, asook die daarstelling van riglyne aan die hand waarvan die aanpassingsproses van pleegkinders en pleegouers tot groter effektiwiteit bevorder kan word. Dit beteken ook dat die rol van die maatskaplike werker met betrekking tot die tersaaklike onderwerp aangepas kan word ten einde sodanige aanpassing meer effektief aan te spreek.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A descriptive study with an exploratory design has been used in order to obtain more information and insight on the contribution that social workers make with regards to foster children in their mid-childhood years‟ adjustment within foster care placements. The researcher became aware of the increase in the use of foster care for vulnerable children in their mid-childhood years, as well as the shortage of literature in South Africa with regards to the contribution that social workers make towards these children adjusting to a foster care placement. The abovementioned aspects lead to the motivation for this study. The contribution that social workers make towards foster children in their mid-childhood years‟ adjustment within foster care placement was studied. The aim of this study is to gain insight into the contribution that social workers make towards foster children in mid-childhood years, adjusting within foster care placements. The literature study gave a description of the nature of foster care with regards to a foster child in his/her mid-childhood years. Foster care was described as a process: from preventative services to permanency placement. Specific attention was given to the foster child in mid-childhood years‟ development process as well as the contribution that social workers make towards a foster child in mid-childhood years‟ adjustment within a foster care placement. As the literature focused mainly on the social worker‟s contribution to the foster child in mid-childhood years‟ adjustment within a foster care placement, the sample consisted of twenty-two social workers working at two non-government organisations in the Western- and Southern- Cape regions. The participants have been registered as social work practitioners for at least one year and have had at least one year of experience in the process of foster care. A combination of both a qualitative and quantitative research methodology design was used in this study that consisted of a scheduled, semi-structured questionnaire which held both open- and closed ended questions. These questions were based on information retrieved from the literature study. The study made a contribution to the expansion of insight and knowledge in the social work practice with regards to the social workers‟ contribution to foster children in mid-childhood year‟s adjustment within foster care. The results of the literature study relatively confirmed the results of the study with regards to social workers‟ broad scale of service delivery during a foster care placement, as well as the consideration for the age and developmental phase of a foster child during the process of a foster care placement. First mentioned services are focused on the foster parents, biological parents as well as the foster children in order to enhance service delivery. Social workers‟ contribution to the adjustment of a foster child in mid-childhood years within a foster care placement seems to vary. Limited time and work overload prevent social workers to continuously support foster children in mid-childhood years as well as their foster parents. The recommendations focused on three areas including the contribution of a social worker, foster children and foster parents. The need for more training in the field of- and support in the area of foster care with regards to social workers, foster parents and foster children was identified as the fundamental themes. It is recommended that future research should focus on several contributing factors to ineffective adjustment within foster care placements with the aim of in-depth description of this phenomenon. Furthermore, the creation of guidelines concerning the enhancement of the adjustment process of foster children and foster parents that will lead to successful foster care placement is also recommended. This means that the role of the social worker with regards to the subject matter should adapt accordingly in order to enhance the adjustment within foster care placements.

Abstract:
This study investigates the Christology of E.W Kenyon, the forefather of the Word Faith Movement (WFM). His theological system forms the foundation of the WFM’s doctrine as promoted by its many pastors and leaders all over the world. The Bible is the point of departure for this work: therefore a representative Reformed understanding of the Scriptures is established in order to conduct a Biblical evaluation of Kenyon’s Christology. Kenyon did not document his beliefs in a systematic manner. Therefore, in chapter two, selected volumes of his writings were minutely examined and organised in order to arrive at a representative statement of his Christology. Chapter 3 is a summary statement of Christology from a Reformed perspective. The writers scrutinised are of a more recent era in order to increase the likelihood of their responding to Kenyon’s theological construct, which dates from the first half of the twentieth century. Scriptural backing for all points of view is noted so as to build a Biblical basis for the representative Reformed definition. In chapter 4 the problematic areas of Kenyon’s Christology are assessed. The statements from chapters two and three are compared and Kenyon’s Christology is critically evaluated from a Biblical standpoint in order to arrive at a statement of conclusion. Chapter 5 is a concluding statement. It also gives recommendations for future study. There is considerable scope for an ongoing investigation of Kenyon’s theology.

I denna studie så kommer jag att analysera MMORPG-spelet World of Warcraft genom att utföra en analys i hopp om att isolera spelmekanismer och element som kan anses vara välfungerande och väldesignade. Jag kommer dessutom att bryta ner World of Warcraft till dess kärnkomponenter med hjälp av Interaction Centric Framework modellen som ett komplement till denna studie. Resultaten visar att World of Warcraft använder sig av många slags egenskaper och designval som skiljer sig själv från andra spel, som att dra ner på story element och att destillera spelets kärna till en väldigt grundlig ”morot-och-piska” formel som låter spelaren kunna spela oavbrutet utan att känna något skäl att sluta spela.
In this paper, I intend to analyze the MMORPG game World of Warcraft by conducting a formal analysis as a way to isolate game mechanics and elements that could be viewed as well-functioning and well-designed. I will also be breaking down the core components of World of Warcraft using the Interaction Centric Framework to complement the study. The results show that World of Warcraft employs a number of features and design choices that differentiates itself from other games, such as stripping the game of story elements and distilling the gameplay to a basic “carrot on a stick” formula, also leaving the player completely uninterrupted and undeterred during gameplay.

The aim of this research is threefold: • to determine the nature of job satisfaction; • to determine the factors which influence the job satisfaction of principals at secondary schools; and • to determine which factors influence the job satisfaction of principals at secondary schools in practice. In order to achieve these aims a literature study and empirical study were undertaken. The literature study was based on primary and secondary sources. A DIALOG computer search was undertaken with the keywords such as: work motivation; work satisfaction, teaching conditions; teacher motivation, secondary school and principal. The nature of job satisfaction was then discussed. Once the management factors that influence work satisfaction of principals were identified, they were grouped and discussed under the following headings: • factors that centres in the principal himself; • factors situated within the school; • factors at management level; • factors within the community; and • factors within the teaching career. A questionnaire was compiled from existing questionnaires (that of Hillebrand, 1989; Esterhuizen, 1989; Du Toit, 1994; Engelbrecht, 1996 and the Minnesota Importance Questionnaire, 1985). All principals at secondary schools in the Northern Cape Province, excluding schools of Correctional Services, were taken as target group in this research. The questionnaires were sent to principals within the target group. The information was statistically analized with the aid of a computer after with it was interpreted. Subsequent to these results recommendations were made. The empirical study showed that principals at secondary schools experience reasonable work satisfaction but that there are still certain factors which should be addressed. Certain recommendations are made on the basis of the empirical investigation. The most important recommendations are that the problem of work security should be addressed, rationalisation and assessment of teachers should be planned carefully and the communication between the school and the Education Department should be improved. Achievements of principals should receive more acknowledgement.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Workers absenteeism is a problem for many companies in South Africa. The absenteeism of workers affects the productivity of companies. The social worker in the industry plays a key role in the managing of workers absenteeism. One of the goals of social work in the industry is to enhance the productivity of workers. Consequently there is a lack of specifically South African research on the social factors that influence worker absenteeism and the role of the social worker to manage worker absenteeism. A survey of international literature forms the starting point for the research undertaken to fill this gap. The influence of social factors on worker absenteeism is described. Three worker absenteeism approaches, namely economical, psigological and sociological approaches are being used to describe the social factors that influence worker absenteeism. The literature view also offers management strategies to help combat worker absenteeism. In the study there is being focused on the female worker because the empirical study takes place at a company that manufactures clothes. The empirical study describes the social factors that influence the absenteeism of female workers working in the manufacturing company. Proposals are made concerning ways to combat worker absenteeism, taking into account the important role the social worker in the industry plays in managing worker absenteeism.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Werknemerafwesigheid is vir baie fabrieke en firmas in Suid-Afrika 'n ernstige probleem. Die werksafwesigheid van werknemers veroorsaak dat die produktiwiteit van fabrieke en firmas beïnvloed word. Die maatskaplike werker in die bedryf kan 'n belangrike rol speel in die hantering van werknemerafwesigheid, omdat dit 'n doelstelling van maatskaplike werk in die bedryf is om die produktiwiteit van werknemers te verhoog. Derhalwe is daar 'n gebrek aan spesifieke Suid-Afrikaanse navorsing oor die maatskaplike faktore wat werknemerafwesigheid beïnvloed, en wat die maatskaplike werker se rol is om werksafwesigheid te beperk. 'n Literatuurstudie word aangebied as vertrekpunt vir die navorsing wat onderneem is om genoemde leemte aan navorsing te vul. Die invloed van maatskaplike faktore op werknemerafwesigheid word bespreek. Drie benaderings tot werknemerafwesigheid, naamlik ekonomiese, sielkundige en sosiologiese benaderings word geondersoek waaronder die maatskaplike faktore wat werknemerafwesigheid beïnvloed, bespreek word. Die literatuuroorsig bied ook bestuurstrategieë om die werksafwesigheid van werknemers te bekamp. Daar word spesifiek op die vroulike werknemer gefokus omdat die empiriese ondersoek by 'n klerevervaardigingsfabriek plaasvind. Die empiriese ondersoek handel oor die maatskaplike faktore wat die werksafwesigheid van vroulike fabriekarbeiders beïnvloed. Na aanleiding van die bevindinge van die ondersoek word aanbevelings vir die hantering van werknemerafwesigheid gemaak. Dit geskied met inagneming van die belangrike rol wat die maatskaplike werker in die bedryf kan speel in die hantering van werknemerafwesigheid.

The Problem statement which was examined in this study is the following: Throughout the history the accuracy and historical value of the Psalm headings were questioned. Translations of the Psalm headings that later on developed for example the Septuagint, the Vulgate and the Peshitta is generally more extended than the Hebrew text. The use of the Grammatical–Historical method shows that the Psalm headings are authorative and that they are part of the Canonical text of the Hebrew Bible. Thorough word study by the method of Verhoef (1973), Hayes & Holladay (2007) and Kaiser (2007) of certain terms was important to note in the naming of the Psalter. This word study was approached through the Grammatical–Historical method. It was further necessary to study the importance of Psalm 145 in the whole of the Psalter, because Psalm 145 is the only Psalm with the heading: תְּהִלָּה . Other Psalm headings were studied and historical information was compared with other parts of Scripture. This study was approached Revelation–Historical. Further on it was necessary to do a comparative study between the Psalm headings of the Masoretic text, the Septuagint and the writings of Qumran to determine the authority of the Psalm headings. A study of contents about the element of praise was also necessary as Van Rooy (2008) explained, because the Psalter shows a development from lament to praise. It is also connected with the title that was originally been given to the Psalter by the Jews.

Syftet med studien är att få en större inblick i de faktorer som eleverna själva upplever har betydelse för deras motivation till skolarbete. I dagens skola känner sig lärare ofta maktlösa inför elever som är omotiverade och saknar lust till skolarbete. En ökad medvetenhet och förståelse för vilka motivationsfaktorer som påverkar eleverna i deras skolarbete ger lärarna fler och effektivare verktyg att stimulera eleverna. Ofta är brist på motivation situationsbunden, eleven kan mycket väl vara motiverad i andra sammanhang än skolan. Så hur kan lärarna väcka denna lust och nyfikenhet hos omotiverade elever och vilka faktorer påverkar eleverna?

Särskilt utmanande kan det vara att försöka motivera elever i behov av särskilt stöd. De har ofta en negativ bild av skolan och sig själva som elever. Deras misslyckanden genom skolåren har ofta satt djupa spår i självkänslan. Specialpedagogerna (och skolan) har ett särskilt ansvar för dessa elever. Specialpedagogerna bör se till att lärare får tillgång till den senaste forskningen inom olika områden och de ska ha ett övergripande ansvar för synsätt, åtgärdsprogram, kompensatoriska hjälpmedel och de strategier som skolan använder för att stötta elever i behov av särskilt stöd. Att med hjälp av den motivationsforskning som finns kunna stötta lärare och elever i deras motivationsarbete är antagligen en av specialpedagogens viktigaste uppgifter.

Denna studie bygger på en enkätundersökning med 55 årskurs 5 elever och 45 årskurs 9 elever. Dessa har svarat på frågor om vilka motivationsfaktorer som de upplever har betydelse respektive inte betydelse för deras motivation till skolarbete. Enkätfrågorna bygger på forskning om vilka motivationsfaktorer som påverkar eleverna i skolan. Genom att jämföra elevernas svar i undersökningen har vi sett vilka motivationsfaktorer som eleverna tycker har störst respektive minst betydelse för deras motivation.

Resultatet visar att en motivationsfaktor som både pojkar och flickor i årskurs 5 och 9 svarade har betydelse är lärarens bemötande. En slutsats vi drar av detta är att lärarens förmåga att skapa goda relationer kan vara avgörande för en elevs motivation.

En skillnad mellan flickornas och pojkarnas svar i undersökningen är att en större andel flickor svarade att delaktighet i skolarbetet var viktigt för dem.

En skillnad mellan årskurserna är att en större andel av årskurs 9 eleverna än av årskurs 5 eleverna svarade att egen tillfredställelse (att känna sig nöjd) har betydelse för deras skolarbete.

The aim of this research revolved around the following issues: *What is the nature of motivation and morale? *What external factors play a role in determining motivation and morale? *How do certain factors influence Afrikaans-speaking educators to cause a negative attitude towards their profession as well as creating a low morale? In order to attain the above aim, a literature and empirical study was undertaken. The literature study was done by using primary and secondary sources. In the first instance it was necessary to investigate the meaning of the concepts motivation, work motivation, work satisfaction, morale, organisation climate, work performance, work productivity, stress, and change. It was found that these concepts are interdependent, creating a complete picture. After the nature and factors of motivation and morale had been identified and discussed, a questionnaire was compiled. Schools in the North West and Northern Cape provinces were involved to complete the questionnaire. The information thus assembled was statistically analysed by means of the SAS computer programme and interpreted. From the data, findings were reported and recommendations made. The empirical investigation indicated that Afrikaans-speaking educators are currently motivated to a certain degree, although there are factors that cause these educators to be unmotivated towards their work. These factors are among others the unrealistic demands made by Curriculum 2005, work overloading and undisciplined learners. Based on the empirical investigation, recommendations were made in conclusion.

A Realised Volatility GARCH model using high-frequency data is developed within a Bayesian framework for the purpose of forecasting Value at Risk and Conditional Value at Risk. A Skewed Student-t return distribution is combined with a Student-t distribution in the measurement equation in a GARCH framework. Realised Volatility GARCH models show a marked improvement compared to ordinary GARCH. A Skewed Student-t Realised DCC copula model using Realised Volatility GARCH marginal functions is developed within a Bayesian framework for the purpose of forecasting portfolio tail risk. The use of copulas is implemented so that the marginal distributions can be separated from the dependence structure to produce tail forecasts. This is compared to using traditional GARCH-copula models, and GARCH on an aggregated portfolio. Copula models implementing a Realised Volatility GARCH framework show an improvement over traditional GARCH models. A Bayesian detection of regime changes utilizing high-frequency data is developed, once again for the purpose of forecasting portfolio tail risk. The use of high-frequency data improves the accuracy of regime change detection compared to daily data. Monte Carlo sampling schemes are employed for the estimation of these models.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Internationally accepted opinion is that the education of social work students is currently under pressure to more effectively prepare the students concerned for service delivery in changing circumstances. Emphasis is placed on the role that social justice, relevance of theory, respect for human rights, cross-cultural competencies and diversity currently play in service delivery to the client system and therefore also within the educational situation. Social work educators must be equipped to provide students with effective education and to facilitate an effective learning process for a diverse student population. Various authors point out that during the learning process students must first be empowered to take control of their own life decisions before being able to successfully render services to a client system. Such empowerment in a diverse setting can be achieved through both the educators and students utilizing their diversity of cultures, backgrounds and experiences as resources to increase learning expenences. Education of social work students occurs amongst others through supervision, which a competent social work educator gives to the student. It is the purpose of this study to examine the nature of education by means of supervision in a diverse student population. Appropriate adult learning models that strive towards empowering students through supervision in a diverse setting, are discussed, as well as the nature of the multicultural competencies of the social work educator concerned. Finally practical and theoretical guidelines are provided according to which social work supervision can be used successfully in the education of a diverse student population.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: According to the South African Constitution, every child has the right to parental care, family care or an approriate form of alternative care. In 2005 in South Africa over 3.4 million orphans did not have access to this right. This was as a result of a shortage of alternative care options. The motivation for this study emerged because foster care is the first placement option for family-based care in South Africa. However there is still a gap in South African literature on the recruitment of foster parents, especially the recruitment of non-relative foster parents and foster parents for cluster foster care homes. Without the knowledge of how to recruit and train foster parents effectively, many children in need of care would stay void of their constitutional rights in this regard. To explore the methods of recruitment, selection and training of foster parents, a combination of quantitative and qualitative research approaches were utilised. Together with that approach an exploratory design, was used. This was done to explore the research topic in literature and examine the views of social workers on the recruitment, selection and training of foster parents. In the literature study the nature and structure of foster care was examined in the context of the South African legislation, followed by an outline of the criteria of children in need of care according to the Children's Act (38/2005). The different phases of the foster care process were discussed according to the tasks and responsibilities of the social worker during this process. Then the different methods of recruitment, selection and training of foster parents were discussed individually on the basis of national and international literature. The exploratory research design was used for the purpose of the empirical study to investigate and analyse the views of social workers regarding the recruitment, selection and training of foster parents. Finally conclusions and recommendations were made based on the findings of the empirical study in order to recommend ways for social workers to be more effective in recruitment, selection and training of foster parents for the large number of children in need of alternative care.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Elke kind in Suid-Afrika het die reg volgens die Grondwet (1996:1255) tot ouerlike sorg, familiesorg, of andersins tot gepaste alternatiewe sorg. In 2005 het 3.4 miljoen weeskinders in Suid-Afrika nie toegang gehad tot hierdie reg nie, as gevolg van `n tekort aan alternatiewe sorg opsies. Die motivering vir hierdie studie is omdat pleegsorg die eerste plasingsopsie as gesinsgebaseerde-sorg in Suid-Afrika is terwyl daar ʼn leemte in Suid-Afrikaanse literatuur bestaan oor die werwing van pleegouers, spesifiek die werwing van nie-familie lede as pleegouers en pleegouers vir groep pleegsorg skemas. Indien nie genoeg pleegouers gewerf en opgelei word as versorgers van sorgbehoewende kinders nie, word die reg van ouerlike sorg steeds van vele sorgebehoewende kinders weerhou. Om metodes van werwing, keuring en opleiding van pleegouers te ondersoek is ʼn kombinasie van kwantitatiewe en kwalitatiewe navorsingsbenaderings gebruik, tesame met `n verkennende ontwerp om eers die navorsingskwessie in die literatuur te verken en dan te ondersoek wat die sienings van maatskaplike werkers is oor die werwing, keuring en opleiding van pleegouers. Eerstens word die aard en struktuur van pleegsorg in die konteks van die Suid-Afrikaanse wetgewing ondersoek, gepaardgaande met `n definieering van die kriteria van sorgbehoewendendheid van kinders volgens die Kinderwet (38/2005). Die verskillende fases van die pleegsorg proses is volgens die take en verantwoordelikhede van die maatskaplike werker bespreek. Tweedens is die verskillende metodes van werwing, keuring en opleiding van pleegouers afsonderlik bespreek aan die hand van nasionale en internasionale literatuur. Die verkennende navorsingsontwerp is vir die doel van die empiriese studie gebruik om die sienings van maatskaplike werkers oor die werwing, keuring en opleiding van pleegouers te ondersoek en te ontleed. Laastens word daar gevolgtrekkings en aanbevelings geformuleer wat gebaseer is op die bevindinge van die studie ten einde maatskaplike werkers te lei om meer effektief pleegouers te werf, keur en op te lei vir die groot aantal sorgbehoewende kinders wat volgens die Grondwet(1996:1255) die reg het op ouerlike sorg.

Syftet med vår undersökning var att ta reda på hur några lärares kunskaper, erfarenheter, uppfattningar och deras egna sätt att lösa uppgifter påverkar deras val av arbetsmetod i klassrummet. Vi intervjuade lärare med olika bakgrunder och metoden vi använde för att komma fram till vårt resultat var kvalitativa intervjuer. Resultatet visade att lärarna i undersökningen vill arbeta undersökande för att skapa relationell förståelse hos eleverna men klarar inte alltid av det då de själva saknar tillräckliga ämneskunskaper för detta. Utifrån resultatet kunde vi dra slutsatsen att lärarnas ämneskunskaper är avgörande för vilka arbetsmetoder de använder även om arbetsmetoderna inte stämmer överens med deras uppfattningar om hur god matematikundervisning bör vara.

Abstract:
The social work has change from a voluntary dedication to an established profession. Social work is a profession in constant change and development. This study is about how social work has changed over time and how these changes have affected social workers professional practice. Our study highlights the changes in Sweden in the last 30 years. Our study is a qualitative study with an individual perspective and was conducted through semi-structured interviews with social workers over 55 years old. The results were consequently analyzed by using organizational theory, new institutonalism, professionalism and specialization. The result showed mainly three changes. These changes were digitization, streamlining and specialization. The result showed that these changes have contributed to both positive and negative consequences. Some of the consequences are; less client contact, high workload and more administrative work. The social work is changing as society develops. The result also shows that the professional identity is complex and associated to many other things. The disadvantage of the social worker's professional profession is the complexity, because social workers are a professional group with broad knowledge who can work in many different fields, which means that a professional identity can be  difficult to create.

This research addresses the problem of how formal organisations can assist on building the capacity of informal community based organisations (CBO’s). Although informal CBO’s are being regarded as valuable resources rendering much needed services to marginalized communities, they are at present still exclude from governmental funding, because they do not meet the requirements prescribed by the state. To obtain the funds which will enable informal CBO’s to render effective and sustainable services to marginalized and poor vulnerable communities, it is from the developmental perspective in welfare crucial to build the capacity of these informal CBO’s. As a point of departure the researcher provides a general picture of the current structure of social service providers in South Africa. This is done, first of all, by conceptualizing “social service providers” within the context of general concepts such as “social welfare” and “social work”. In this respect a schematic representation provides a general picture of the various categories of social service providers involved, followed by a concise description of each, including their focuses, roles and responsibilities. This necessitates that a distinction should be drawn between the government sector, parastatal organisations, profit-yielding non-governmental organisations and non-governmental organisations without a profit-seeking motive. The concept “capacity building” is explored in accordance with the policy and legislative framework applicable to the capacity building of informal CBO’s by formal welfare organisations. This framework is supplemented by a description of other key concepts which have a bearing on the capacity building of informal CBO’s by formal welfare organisations, such as “empowerment” and “development”. Emanating from this an attempt is made to formulate the objective of the capacity building of informal CBO’s by formal welfare organisations. From the diversity of the developmental requirements and the obstacles informal CBO’s experience, aims for obtaining capacity building are deduced.

The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence the work satisfaction of inspectors of education in the Northern Cape. This aim is achieved by firstly conducting a literature study on the nature of work satisfaction and factors responsible for inspector work satisfaction and/or work dissatisfaction. Secondly an empirical investigation is conducted on the perceptions of inspectors about factors influencing their work satisfaction. Finally, recommendations are made through which inspectors of education can achieve optimal work satisfaction for themselves. Findings from the literature study indicate that work context and work contents factors influence inspector work satisfaction. Work context factors mainly concern supervision and working conditions. Working conditions include aspects such as physical working conditions, leadership, interpersonal relationships, policy, participation in decision-making, salary, work safety, work security and the organizational climate. Work context factors relate to inspectors' needs for psychological growth and self-fulfilment viz., the needs for responsibility, recognition, promotion, the work itself and professional development. Findings from the empirical investigation indicate that the respondents are less satisfied in their jobs than is generally reported. Inspectors regard the satisfaction of work context factors as very important and are partly contended that these needs are satisfied. However there are numerous work context factors from which they derive relatively little work satisfaction, inter alia, working conditions with regard to some supervisory activities, participation in decision-making and strategic planning in the department of education, work security and work safety. The factors within the work context are experienced as mostly satisfying. The recommendations of this study emphasise the necessity of an effective line of communication between the Education Department and the regional office, and the Education Department should launch a penetrating investigation into the filling of vacancies at the level of inspectors. With the aim on participatory management as many as possible role-players should be involved at provincial level. With the aim of professional development of both newly appointed inspectors of education and more experienced inspectors of education a professional inclusion program must be developed regarding better role and task fulfilment.

The negative impact of HIV/Aids, internationally and nationally; as well as on the education system of South Africa, is well-documented and cannot be ignored. The latest statistics indicate that South Africa currently has the highest occurrence of HIV/Aids in the world. Due to this high occurrence of HIV/Aids infected people, an unbelievably high percentage of the community is affected by the pandemic. Teachers, specifically life orientation teachers, are also affected by this phenomenon. All teachers, but specifically Life orientation teachers, are faced on a daily basis with various personal and professional challenges related to the HIV/Aids pandemic. These challenges threaten the well-being of teachers, so that researchers have been asked to empower teachers so that they can resist these challenges. A resilient teacher avails of the correct information on HIV/Aids and can therefore contribute to fighting the pandemic by providing correct information. This teacher will, amongst others, also have strong faith, the ability to discuss the pandemic openly and to obtain access to counselling. This resilient teacher realises the importance of a positive attitude despite the fact that she is realistic about the impact of the pandemic, has positive relationships and realises the value of support. The aim of my study was to determine the degree to which the programme Resilient Educators (REds) can support life orientation teachers who are affected by HIV/Aids, so that they will be equipped to resiliently withstand the challenges HIV/Aids set them. REds has been evaluated many times, but until the present, participants have not been life orientation teachers. In response to this aim, I followed a pre-experimental research design in the course of my study with twelve affected life orientation teachers in Sasolburg, as participants. Before beginning with the programme, a pretest (qualitative as well as quantitative data were collected) was done. Intervention took place over seven weeks by means of the REds programme. I wrote a reflection journal during the intervention and asked participants to report their impressions of the sessions in writing. After completing the programme, a post test was written (qualitative as well as quantitative data were collected) to determine the degree to which participants were able to withstand the challenges of HIV/Aids more resiliently. Thorough analysis of the pre and post test data, as well as the reflection data, creates the impression that participants were already resilient to some degree before joining the programme, but after completing the programme, their resilience can be described as more profound than before, and this fact can largely be ascribed to the effectiveness of the REds programme.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Since 1988 it became practice for welfare organisations to submit an evaluation of their welfare programme as part of their application for state funding for the next year. Included in this evaluation is a section on the cost efficiency of the programme. After the first democratic election in 1994 a number of processes were started to develop new welfare policies for the country. In all of these processes cost efficiency is seen as a principle, but in spite of this, so it seems from the documents, is the evaluation of cost efficiency still a problem. The question therefore arises: What is the present status of the evaluation of the cost efficiency of social services after twelve years of program evaluation? Only a few studies on the methodology of the evaluation of cost efficiency within the South African context were found through the literature study. An exploratory study was therefore undertaken to determine what the reasons could be why so little progress was made with cost effiency evaluation. The empirical study focussed on residential facilities for older persons and was done within one welfare organisation in the Western- and Southern Cape. A sample of twenty managers was randomly selected and fifteen respondents returned the questionaire. It is a potential danger that managers of residential facilities for older persons could see the evaluation of the services rendered as just another administrative task, because of the very strong link between evaluation and the application for state funding. The researcher therefore wanted to ascertain what the attitude of the managers is towards the evaluation of their services, and especially the evaluation of the cost-efficiency thereof. It was found that the managers are positive towards program evaluation and the evaluation of cost efficiency, but the majority of them responded that the lack of guidelines and manuals is a deficiency. The lack of proper measuring instruments was also stressed. The research also shown that the managers conceptualize cost efficiency mainly in terms of costs and not as a relation between the outcomes of the programme and the costs thereof. The managers of residential facilities uses the evaluation document that was send out by the department, because it forms part of the application for state funding. This means that the level of program evaluation is actually determined by the department. It was found that this document focused mainly on the measuring of inputs and outputs and not so much of the evaluation of the outcomes of the programme. Based on the results of the study the researcher proposed guidelines to promote the evaluation of the cost efficiency of social services.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Dit is sedert 1988 praktyk dat vrywillige welsynsorganisasies jaarliks 'n evaluering van hulle maatskaplikewelsynsprogram moet indien as deel van die aansoek om staatsubsidie vir die volgende jaar. By hierdie evaluering van die maatskaplikewelsynsprogramme is die evaluering van die kostedoeltreffendheid van die program ingesluit. Na die eerste demokratiese verkiesing in 1994 het verskeie prosesse aan die gang gekom om nuwe maatskaplikewelsynsbeleid vir Suid-Afrika te ontwikkel. In al die dokumente wat deur die prosesse ontwikkel is, word die kostedoeltreffendheid van maatskaplikewelsynsdienste as 'n belangrike beginsel gestel. Die empiriese studie het gefokus op residensiële fasiliteite vir ouer persone en die navorsing is uitgevoer by een welsynsorganisasie in die Wes- en Suid-Kaap. 'n Steekproef van twintig bestuurders is op ewekansige wyse geselekteer en vyftien respondente het die vraelys teruggestuur. Die gevaar bestaan dat, vanweë die sterk verband tussen die evaluering van die program en die aansoek vir subsidie, die evaluering van die maatskaplikewelsynsprogram bloot net as nog 'n administratiewe taak gesien kan word. Daarom wou die navorser vasstel wat die bestuurders van residensiële versorgingsprogramme vir ouer persone se houding jeens programevaluering en die evaluering van die kostedoeltreffendheid van die program is. In die studie is bevind dat die bestuurders positief jeens programevaluering en die evaluering van die kostedoeltreffendheid van die programme is, maar die oorgrote meerderheid bestuurders het aangedui dat hulle dit as 'n leemte sien dat daar min riglyne of handleidings bestaan. Die gebrek aan meetinstrumente is ook beklemtoon. Uit die studie het dit verder geblyk dat die bestuurders die konsep kostedoeltreffendheid hoofsaaklik in terme van koste verstaan, en nie in terme van 'n verhouding van die uitkomste van die program tot die koste daarvan nie. Die bestuurders van residensiële fasiliteite voltooi jaarliks die evalueringsdokument van die betrokke staatsdepartement, omdat dit deel vorm van die aansoekprosedure vir staatsubsidie. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Since the earliest times the church or faith communities had been involved in charity work and as a result of the increasing social problems, demands and challenges that the church was confronted with, faith-based organisations such as the Diaconal Services within the context of the URCSA (Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa) and Religious Social Services within the context of the DRC (Dutch Reformed Church) came into existence. These organisations serve as the compassionate components of the faith-based communities and they emerged as a result of the belief that it is important for the church to address the needs of the communities in which it is based. Faith-based organisations are confronted with many challenges and it is important that these organisations are managed effectively to cope with the current challenges. Faith-based organisations as welfare organisations form part of the so called third sector organisations or non profit organisations and various authors (Lewis, 2007; Goel and Kumar, 2004; Keys and Ginsberg, 1988) also confirm the importance of the management element in respect of these organisations. Weinbach (2008:3) also emphasises that the emergence of recent changes regarding service delivery to people, suggests that there is a need for greater focus on the issue of management within welfare organisations as well as for the study of relevant theory. Social workers can play an effective management role within any organisation, including a faith-based organisation. Managers need to have a variety of skills in order to perform management functions or tasks effectively. A social worker as part of the management team of a faith-based organisation needs to have the necessary management skills to ensure effective management. The aim of the study is to develop an understanding of the management skills that social workers need to have as managers of faith-based organisations. A qualitative as well as a quantitative approach was used in this study. Elements of a qualitative approach were employed to develop a better understanding of a strange or complex situation and therefore the study is also explorative in nature (Leedy and Ormond, 2005:94-95; Struwig and Stead, 2002:12, 19; Mouton and Marais, 1990:45). Furthermore the study was also descriptive in nature. Mouton en Marais (1990:47) are of the opinion that the most important consideration with regard to descriptive studies is the gathering of accurate information or data. After completion of the literature study, empirical research was undertaken with the aim to develop a better understanding of the functioning of the social worker as manager within a faith-based organisation. The statistical population of this study is the social work managers who operate within faith-based organisations and especially within the Religious Social Services and Dutch Reformed Welfare in the Northern Cape and Dutch Reformed Welfare in North-West and Gauteng. Deliberate selection classified as non-probability test sampling was used (Struwig and Stead, 2001:124; Blaxter Hughes and Tight, 2001:163; Huysamen, 1993:46). According to Singleton et al (1988) in De Vos (1988:198-199), a purposeful test sample depend totally on the judgement of the researcher. The researcher was able to select participants who complied with the criteria of inclusion. A semi-structured questionnaire consisting of open and closed questions was compiled after the completion of the literature study and the self-administrated questionnaires were distributed to the respondents to complete. Twenty respondents participated in the empirical study. The results of the empirical research were used as a basis for the conclusions and the recommendations that were made. The results of the study show that faith-based organisations as non profit organisations register and adhere to the regulations and requirements of the Nonprofit Organizations Act, 71 of 1997. The latter ensures that faith-based organisations have an equal change with other non profit organisations for funding from government as well as other national and international donors. It is evident from the research that social work managers need to have a variety of management skills and have to perform certain management functions in order to ensure effective management of faith-based organisations. It is also evident that social work managers are not formally trained as managers. The outcome of the study can be used by management boards of faith-based, as well as non governmental organisations to appoint social work managers as well as for performance appraisals of social work managers. It can also be used by current social work managers with regard to the management skills that social workers as managers of faith-based organisations need for effective functioning as managers.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Reeds van die vroegste tye af was die kerk of geloofsgemeenskappe betrokke by barmhartigheid en juis vanweë die toenemende sosiale probleme en die eise en uitdagings wat dit aan kerke gestel het, het geloofsgebaseerde organisasies soos, onder andere, Diakonale Dienste binne die VGK-konteks (Verenigende Gereformeerde Kerk-konteks) en Kerklike Maatskaplike Dienste binne die NG Kerk-konteks (Nederduits Gereformeerde Kerk-konteks) die lig gesien. Die organisasies dien as barmhartigheidsbeen van die geloofsgemeenskappe en het tot stand gekom vanuit die geloofsoortuiging om die nood te help verlig in die gemeenskappe waar die kerk geleë is. Geloofsgebaseerde organisasies word gekonfronteer met baie uitdagings en moet effektief bestuur word ten einde die hedendaagse uitdagings te kan hanteer. Geloofsgebaseerde organisasies as welsynsorganisasies vorm deel van die sogenaamde derdesektor-organisasies of nie-winsgewende organisasies en verskeie skrywers (Lewis, 2007; Goel en Kumar, 2004; Keys en Ginsberg, 1988) onderskryf ook die belangrikheid van die bestuurselement t.o.v. hierdie organisasies. Weinbach (2008:3) benadruk ook dat die veranderinge wat onlangs in die dienslewering aan mense begin kop uitsteek het, daarop dui dat daar ʼn behoefte is aan ʼn groter fokus op die kwessie van bestuur binne welsynsorganisasies, sowel as vir die bestudering van relevante teorie. Maatskaplike werkers kan ʼn effektiewe bestuursrol binne enige organisasie insluitende ʼn geloofsgebaseerde organisasie vervul. Bestuurders van enige organisasie moet oor ʼn verskeidenheid vaardighede beskik ten einde die bestuursfunksies of take effektief uit te voer. ʼn Maatskaplike werker as deel van die bestuurspan van ʼn geloofsgebaseerde organisasie moet oor die nodige bestuursvaardighede beskik om effektiewe bestuur te verseker. Die doel van die studie is om ʼn begrip te ontwikkel vir die bestuursvaardighede wat maatskaplike werkers as bestuurders van geloofsgebaseerde organisasies benodig. In hierdie studie is ʼn kwalitatiewe benadering sowel as ʼn kwantitatiewe benadering gevolg. Elemente van ʼn kwalitatiewe benadering is gevolg om ʼn beter begrip te kry van ʼn onbekende of komplekse situasie en die studie was verkennend van aard (Leedy en Ormond, 2005:94-95; Struwig en Stead, 2002:12,19; Mouton en Marais, 1990:45). Die studie was verder ook beskrywend van aard. Mouton en Marais (1990:47) is van mening dat die verkryging van akkurate inligting/data oor die domeinverskynsel onder bestudering, die belangrikste oorweging is in beskrywende studies. Na die afhandeling van die literatuurstudie, is ’n empiriese ondersoek gedoen met die doel om ʼn beter begrip van die funksionering van die maatskaplike werker as bestuurder binne ʼn geloofsgebaseerde organisasie te verkry. Die universum van hierdie studie is alle maatskaplike werk bestuurders wat binne geloofsgemeenskappe funksioneer, en spesifiek binne die Kerklike Maatskaplike Diens en NG Welsyn in Suid-Afrika. Dit was egter beperk tot die Kerklike Maatskaplike Diens in die Vrystaat, NG Welsyn in die Noordkaap en NG Welsyn Noordwes en Gauteng. Daar is gebruik gemaak van doelbewuste seleksie wat as nie-waarskynlikheidsteekproewe (Struwig en Stead, 2001:124; Blaxter Hughes en Tight, 2001:163; Huysamen, 1993:46) geklassifiseer word. Volgens Singleton et al (1988) in De Vos (1988:198-199), berus ʼn doelbewuste steekproef heeltemal op die oordeel van die navorser. In die geval van hierdie studie kon die navorser die deelnemers kies wat aan die kriteria vir insluiting voldoen het. ’n Semi-gestruktureerde vraelys wat bestaan het uit oop en geslote vrae is na die voltooiing van die literatuurstudie opgestel en die self-geadministreerde vraelyste is aan die respondente verskaf om te voltooi. Twintig respondente het aan die empiriese studie deelgeneem. Die resultate van die empiriese ondersoek is as basis gebruik vir die gevolgtrekkings en die aanbevelings wat in hierdie studie gemaak is. Die resultate van die studie toon dat geloofsgebaseerde organisasies as nie-winsgewende organisasies registreer en by die voorskrifte en vereistes van Die Wet op Organisasies Sonder Winsoogmerk, 71 van 1997 hou. Laasgenoemde verseker dat hulle ʼn gelyke kans het net soos ander nie-winsgewende organisasies vir befondsing van die staat en ander nasionale of internasionale donateurs. Uit die studie blyk dit dat die maatskaplike werk bestuurders van geloofsgebaseerde organisasies oor ʼn verskeidenheid van bestuursvaardighede moet beskik en sekere bestuursfunksies moet verrig ten einde effektiewe bestuur van geloofsgebaseerde organisasies te verseker. Dit blyk ook verder dat maatskaplike werk bestuurders van geloofsgebaseerde organisasies nie formeel as bestuurders opgelei is nie. Die uitkoms van die studie sal deur die besture van geloofsgebaseerde en nie-regeringsorganisasies gebruik kan word vir die aanstelling van maatskaplike werk bestuurders en prestasie-evaluasies van maatskaplike werk bestuurders. Dit kan ook deur bestaande maatskaplike werk bestuurders benut word met betrekking tot die bestuursvaardighede wat maatskaplike werkers as bestuurders van geloofsgebaseerde organisasies benodig vir effektiewe funksionering as bestuurders.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Modern management planning and control systems dates back to World War I in 1915. The development of the bar chart during that time by Henry L. Gantt was a drastic improvement on previous methods. The size, complexity and risks associated with modern technical sophisticated projects has required the development of new methods. This led to the development of the critical path method which was developed in the United States of America during the period 1956 to 1958. Since then various methods have been developed with the aim of meeting special requirements. The extent of achieving success for construction projects, varies drastically according to the application of project scheduling techniques. This statement is confirmed by various studies conducted in an attempt to analyse the scheduling and controlling of construction projects, but due to the complexity of the time-cost-problem which is coupled to construction projects, problems are still being experienced with the successful or timeous completion of construction projects. Regarding the problems being experienced to complete construction projects timeously, this investigation will attempt to find underlying reasons for these problems and to determine proper solutions. This investigation will therefore focus on the reasons why deviations from the schedules occur so frequently, and what can possibly be done to prevent it. From the aforementioned the following can be concluded: An investigation into the reasons why construction projects making use of municipal services are often completed late, although it was scheduled with the help of network techniques. The procedure that was followed for the investigation was firstly the formulation of goals and study area. Thereafter a literature study was done that covered the following aspects of the study: • background of project management, network techniques, time and cost management; • identification of factors that could possibly contribute to the late completion of construction projects; • description of factors in terms of the following: definition and meaning of factors in context of project management; possible reasons why it occurs; consequences in the event of it occurring; possible solutions. Further follows the gathering, processing, analysing of the data and finally the conclusion and summary. With reference to this data, table i contains a list of factors that can possibly lead to the late completion of construction projects. All the factors that, according to the study, have a real contribution to the late completion of construction projects, are marked with an X in the remarks column of table i. When a project is thus initiated, it would be advisable to take note of the possible influences that the factors marked X in the remarks column of table i could have. This information is applicable to all projects in the study area irrespective of its characteristics. This information is also processed further so that conclusions can be drawn for projects with certain characteristics. This study shows that the average additional costs incurred for the late completion of a project are between 13,2 percent and 18,9 percent of the tender price, depending on the extent of the project. By focusing on critical factors, significant sums of money can thus be saved. The writer is of the opinion that the goals of the study regarding the actual subject were achieved. The results are highly applicable to the realities in practice and implementation thereof can certainly have significant results. Considering that no previous studies have been done on this subject, the focus of the study was wider than expected because the unknown is so much greater. With the study completed, further studies can now focus on the relevant aspects of the subject. This should lead to the refining of the aspects, resulting in a more practical implementation of the results.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Moderne bestuursbeplanning en kontrolestelsels dateer sedert die Eerste Wêreldoorlog vanaf 1915. Henry L. Gantt het in dié tyd die strepieskaart ontwikkel, wat 'n drastiese verbetering op vorige metodes was. Die grootte, kompleksiteit en risiko's wat geassosieer word met hedendaagse, tegnies gesofistikeerde projekte, het vereis dat nuwe metodes ontwikkel moes word. Dit het gelei tot die ontwikkeling van die kritiekepad- metode, wat gedurende die tydperk 1956 tot 1958 in die Verenigde State van Amerika ontwikkel is. Sedertdien is verskeie metodes ontwikkel wat daarop gemik is om spesifieke behoeftes aan te spreek. Die mate van tydige voltooiing van konstruksieprojekte varieer drasties na gelang van die toepassing van projekskeduleringstegnieke. Hierdie stelling word bevestig deur verskeie studies wat geloods is om die skedulering en kontrolering van konstruksieprojekte te ontleed, maar vanweë :die komplekse tyd-koste-probleem wat gepaard gaan met konstruksieprojekte, word nog steeds probleme ondervind met die suksesvolle of tydige voltooiing van konstruksieprojekte. Met verwysing na die probleme wat ondervind word om konstruksieprojekte tydig te voltooi, gaan daar met dié ondersoek gepoog word om onderliggende redes daarvoor te soek en oplossings aan -,--..::.:.~.:.:" die hand te doen. Die ondersoek gaan dus-fokus op die redes waarom daar dikwels afgewyk word van skedules, en wat gedoen kan word om die afwykings te voorkom. Vandaar dan die onderwerp, wat as volg lui: 'n Ondersoek na die redes waarom konstruksieprojekte van munisipale dienste in baie gevalle laat voltooi word, alhoewel dit met behulp van netwerktegnieke geskeduleer is. Die prosedure wat gevolg is met die ondersoek, is eerstens die formulering van die doelwitte en studiegebied. Daarna volg 'n literatuurstudie, wat die volgende aspekte van die studie hanteer: • agtergrond van projekbestuur, netwerktegnieke en die bestuur van tyd en koste; • identifisering van faktore wat moontlik kan bydra tot die laat voltooiing van konstruksieprojekte; • beskrywing van die faktore in terme van die volgende: definisie en betekenis van faktor in konteks van projekbestuur; moontlike redes waarom dit voorkom; gevolge indien dit sou voorkom; moontlike oplossings. Alle faktore wat volgens die studie 'n wesenlike bydrae lewer tot die laat voltooiing van konstruksieprojekte, is in die opmerkingskolom van Tabel ii met 'n X gemerk. Wanneer 'n projek van stapel gestuur word, sal dit raadsaam wees om ag te slaan op die moontlike invloed van die faktore wat gemerk is met In X in die opmerkingskolom van Tabel ii. Die inligting is van toepassing op alle projekte in die studiegebied, ongeag die kenmerke van die projekte. Die inligting is ook verder verwerk sodat gevolgtrekkings gemaak kan word vir projekte met sekere kenmerke. Die studie toon aan dat die gemiddelde addisionele kostes as gevolg van die laat voltooiing van 'n projek, tussen 13,2 persent en 18,9 persent van die tenderbedrag beloop, afhangende van die omvang van die projek. Deur dus te fokus op die kritieke faktore, kan aansienlike bedrae geld bespaar word. Die skrywer is van mening dat die doelwitte van die studie aangaande dié aktuele onderwerp bereik is. Die resultate is hoogs van toepassing op die realiteite in die praktyk, en die toepassing daarvan kan beslis noemenswaardige resultate tot gevolg hê. Aangesien daar nie voorheen studies gedoen is oor die onderwerp nie, was die fokus van die studie breër as wat verwag is, omdat die onbekende soveel groter is. Met die studie voltooi, kan daar nou deur verdere studies gefokus word op die relevante aspekte van die onderwerp. Many Christians, including Christian leaders, are spiritually blind. They do not understand the purpose and implication of Jesus' Coming for each of His followers. So often Christians seek self-interest and their own honour and are not in the least concerned about their fellow believers and fellow man. They do not live up to God's purpose with them. The main research problem of this study is: "What is the implication of the ? of Jesus in word and deed proclamation in the Gospel of Mark?" The main objective of this study is to determine what the implication is of the ? of Jesus in word- and deed proclamation in the Gospel of Mark. The specific question posed. in Chapter 2 is the following: "What research has been done with reference to the implication of the ? of Jesus in word and deed proclamation in the Gospel of Mark?" Research has shown that the disciples are portrayed negatively in the Gospel of Mark. Researchers offer different explanations for this negative portrayal of the disciples. There is concensus among researchers that this specific portrayal of the disciples should be explained from the angle of Christology and discipleship. This study examines the negative portrayal of the disciples focusing on the ? of Jesus and the discipleship of His followers. The intention is to propose an answer to the calling of each follower in the missionary church. Research has further shown that discipleship is not limited to the twelve disciples only, but includes all followers of Jesus. The specific question posed in Chapter 3 is the following: "What is the relevance of the socio-historic and literary context of the Gospel of Mark for this study regarding the implication of the ? of Jesus in word and deed proclamation in the Gospel of Mark?" The socio-historic context indicates that the adressees of the Gospel of Mark probably suffered persecution. The relevance of the socio-historic context can be read from the fact that the author of the Gospel of Mark encourages the adressees in their unique situation(s) en guides them on their response as followers. This corresponds with Jesus' discipleship calling to bear one's own cross. From the literary context it becomes clear that the central discipleship section in Mark 8:27-10:52 forms a structural unit in the Gospel of Mark. Christology and discipleship are central themes in Mark 8:27- 10:52. These two themes are directly related to the implication of the ? of Jesus in word- and deed proclamation in the Gospel of Mark?" The literary context also shows that the Gospel of Mark is a dramatic, apocalyptic, eschatologic narrative that is also a biography. As a biography of Jesus, the Gospel of Mark focuses on Jesus as Subject who serves, but also on his disciples who must deny themselves and serve God. The specific question posed in Chapter 4 is the following: "What is the relevance of the revelation-historic context of the "Son of man" enunciations in Mark 8:27-10:52 for the implication of the ? of Jesus in word and deed proclamation in the Gospel of Mark? In Chapter 4 it is shown that the "Son of man" enunciations should be understood within the revelation-historical relation between the Old and the New Testament. Jesus proclaims Himself, amongst other titles in the Gospel of Mark as the Son of man. The Son of man is a glorious and kingly figure (cf Dan 7:13 & 14), .but also a humble figure who suffers (cf Isaiah Jes 40-55; Sagaria; the Psalms). It is further more important to realize that there is a relationship between the Messiah and His servants in the Old Testament and the Son of man and his followers in the Gospel of Mark. The specific question, posed in Chapter 5 is the following: "What is the implication of the ? of Jesus in word and deed proclamation in the Gospel of Mark?" It is shown from Mark 8:27-9:1 that the ? of Jesus has redemptive, discipleship, as well as judgemental implication. Following Jesus means to serve Him as believer and saved person. Following Jesus is to serve Jesus and God with the same attitude as Jesus served His Father and people. It is shown from Mark 9:30-37 that humble and loving service is necessary between leaders and all followers. This service should be specifically aimed at the least ones in the community of faith. Humble service towards one another and the least ones is not degraded. It is extremely important work because it is at the same time service towards Jesus and God. At the feet of the least in church and society we receive the most humble Servant and our Supreme God, the most important of all. It is shown from Mark 10:32-45 that selfish behaviour and pride among leaders must be replaced with a humble attitude and submission to God, fellow believers and fellow man." This discipleship has its origin in the reconciliatory work of Jesus. It is shown from Mark 10:46-52 that Jesus sent people to the outsiders and sufferers along the road to call them to Him. His aim is to save them that they may join and serve Him and others. In Chapter 6 this study reaches its conclusion. God had according to the Gospel of Mark a specific purpose with the ? of Jesus in word and deed proclamation. Through His word proclamation Jesus reveals the will of His Father who sent Him to earth. This message of the Kingdom of God is a message of hope. Through His deed proclamation Jesus brings salvation to many people. The life of Jesus was a life of humble, sacrificing and loving service. His service makes their service possible. He calls all His followers to serve God until! He comes again. Every believer is a follower of Jesus and part of the missionary church as fishers of men. Each believer is sent out in the world with the sacrificing love of Jesus to serve God, fellow believers, his fellow man especially the least ones and those who suffer. Leaders and followers should live according to the same principle: Follow Jesus by serving God and your fellow man. Every follower is a servant not only at the feet of the least ones and those who suffer, but also at the feet of the greatest Servant and our Supreme God.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The application of the support function in supervision of undergraduate students in social work liberates the students' emotional energy in order to contribute to the success of the students. To be a source of support to the students, the supervisor must be aware of the possible causes of stress, the students' reaction thereto and methods in which they could deal with it. This exploratory study endeavours to create a scientifically based framework for the application of the support function in supervision of undergraduate students in social work in order to deal with stress. The causes of, reaction towards and ways in which undergraduate students in social work deal with stress were determined by means of questionnaires and described in terms of the students' personalities and their unique circumstances, their contact with the client system and supervision of the students. The respondents were 60 undergraduate students in social work. Conclusions and recommendations were made which focussed, amongst others, on the development of knowledge regarding the application of the support function in supervision, pro-active support, communication during support and application of the support function with regard to the practice education of the students. The framework of this research can be utilised by supervisors for effective supervision of undergraduate students in social work.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die toepassing van die ondersteuningsfunksie in supervisie aan voorgraadse maatskaplikewerkstudente stel die studente se emosionele energie vry ten einde tot suksesvolle studente by te dra. Om 'n bron van ondersteuning vir studente te wees, moet die supervisor bewus wees van die moontlike oorsake van stres, die studente se reaksies daarop en die wyses waarop stres hanteer kan word. Hierdie verkennende studie het ten doel om 'n wetenskaplik gefundeerde raamwerk daar te stel vir die toepassing van die ondersteuningsfunksie in supervisie aan voorgraadse maatskaplikewerkstudente ten einde stres te hanteer. Die oorsake, reaksies en hantering van voorgraadse maatskaplikewerkstudente se stres is deur middel van vraelyste bepaal en in terme van die studente se persoonlikheid en omstandighede, hulle kontak met die klientsisteem en supervisie aan die studente beskryf. Die respondente het uit 60 voorgraadse maatskaplikewerkstudente bestaan. Gevolgtrekkings en aanbevelings is gemaak wat onder andere gefokus het op ontwikkeling van kennis oor die toepassing van die ondersteuningsfunksie in supervisie, pro-aktiewe ondersteuning, kommunikasie tydens ondersteuning en toepassing van die ondersteuningsfunksie met betrekking tot studente se praktykopleiding. Die raamwerk van hierdie navorsingsverslag sal deur supervisors vir effektiewe supervisie aan voorgraadse maatskaplikewerkstudente benut kan word.

Syftet med den här studien är att undersöka hur lärare i årskurs 4–6 resonerar kring val och värdering av läromedel i historieämnet. Studiens frågeställningar handlar om hur lärare ser på begreppet "läromedel", vad som ligger till grund för val av läromedel samt hur dessa värderas. Genom kvalitativa halvstrukturerade intervjuer ställdes frågor anpassade efter syfte och frågeställningar till fem lärare. Resultaten av dessa intervjuer visar att när läromedel väljs ut är det viktigaste att dessa är anpassade för den aktuella elevgruppens behov och den enskilde elevens kunskapsnivå och förmåga. Delar som textens utformning och svårighetsgrad lyftes, och även läromedlets estetik gällande bilder var viktiga för att nå eleverna och locka intresse. Även den ekonomiska faktorn är av betydelse då skolans budget enligt lärarna kräver prioriteringar. Tid var en faktor där samtliga lärare ansåg att de inte lade ner tillräckligt med tid på att välja läromedel. Dessutom menar lärarna att om författare och förlag anger att deras läromedel följer Lgr11 så förlitar sig lärarna på det. Lärarna i studien visar på en bred syn på vad läromedel kan vara, men trots detta fokuseras de flesta svar kring den traditionella läroboken.
