Abstract:
The V-die bending force is an important parameter in respect of press machine capacity selection, but it has not been the focus of previous research. Furthermore, while the various modified formulas proposed in previous research were calculated using V-die bending theory, they are insufficient for predicting the actual V-die bending force. Based on the actual V-die bending mechanism, a new V-die bending force formula is proposed in this study, in which bending is generated not only in the bending allowance zone but also on the legs next to the bending allowance zone. Therefore, the bending force in these zones must be carefully considered. The finite element method (FEM) was used as an effective technique to clearly determine the actual V-die bending mechanism and to modify and develop a new V-die bending force formula. Laboratory experiments were carried out to validate the FEM simulation results as well as to confirm the accuracy of the proposed new V-die bending force formula. Two types of workpiece material, aluminum AA1100-O (JIS) and medium carbon-steel sheet-grade SPCC (JIS), were used as test materials. The results clearly show that the new V-die bending force formula offers more accuracy in V-die bending force prediction than predictions based on past formulas. The error in the V-die bending forces predicted using the new formula was approximately 5% compared with those of the experimental works.

Abstract:
This research analyses v-bending results using galvanized SGCC (JIS G 3302) sheet steel. The accuracy of the angle and dimensions of the bending results are the significant elements of the bending process that must be achieved. The bending spring-back/spring-go phenomenon has an impact on bending angle accuracy. If proper parameters are chosen, the spring-tub/spring-go angle should be minimized. This study aimed to see how the proposed v-bending process affected the spring-tub/spring-go angle value. An experimental approach was selected in this study. V-die bending opening, V-die punch angle, V-die punch speed, and bending force are all input parameters for the v-bending process. Meanwhile, in this study, galvanized steel with a thickness of 1.2 mm was used. The results of the ANOVA evaluation showed that the v-die punch speed and bending force are two parameters that affect the response of the variable, with a percentage contribution of 31.0% each. The minimum spring-back angle was found in the second sample, while the minimum spring-go angle was found in the fourth sample

Abstract:
The main problem in bending process of sheet metal is that it is difficult to control bending springback accurately. Springback produced from the unloading of bending makes the shape and size incongruent between bending workpiece and working portion of die. Because the final shape of bending workpiece is related with the whole deformation process, the geometric parameter of die, material performance parameter will have great effect on springback. Therefore, the springback problem is very complicated and the prediction and control of springback is the key to improve the accuracy of bending workpiece. Taking the V free bending of wide sheet as an object of study, the neural networks technology and data acquisition system based on LabVIEW are used to establish intelligent control experiment system for V free bending of wide sheet metal. The control accuracy of system is high and it provides the basis for the realization of intelligent control for V-shape free bending of wide sheet metal in practice in future.

Abstract:
The forming of the completed aluminium foam sandwich (AFS) panels would determine an improvement in the manufacturing of parts and panels. In this paper the authors have investigated the formability of AFS through experiments. the load versus punch stroke curve and deformation procedures of Aluminium foam sandwiche panels was investigated by performing V-bending experiments. A serious problem encountered in the V-bending was bending-induced large transverse shear deformation of the skin-core layer. It causes the delamination of the AFS. It was found from experimental observations that the large shear defomation progresses rapidly only at the final stage of V-bending. Consequently, the air-bending operation for Aluminium foam sandwiche panels is recommended for suppressing the shear deformation of skin-core layer to within an acceptable limit.

Abstract:
Aluminum based alloys have wide area of usage in automotive and defense industry and bending processes are frequently applied during production. One of the most important design criteria of bending processes is springback, which can be basically defined as elastic recovery of the part during unloading. To overcome this problem, heat treatment is generally applied to the workpiece material to refine tensile properties. In this study, the effect of heat treatment on springback characteristics of aluminum studied both numerically by using finite element analysis and experimentally. For this purpose, two different materials are selected and various heat treatment procedures are considered. The aluminum sheets having thickness of 1.6 mm, 2 mm and 2.5 mm are bent to 60&

Abstract:
AbstractCapital is one of the common measures to strengthen the slab-column connections. It can make the joint's load capacity increase. However, when the connection is subjected to the unbalanced bending moment, the reduction effect of the capital on the bending moment is to be studied. Nonlinear finite element analysis is performed on reinforced concrete slabs with column capital for various moment-to-shear (M/V) ratios. The effect of capital radius on the punching shear resistance of slab-column connections is investigated. The 3D finite element modeling is performed using the concrete damage plasticity model and concrete constitutive equations. The concrete damage plasticity model parameters are calibrated by the experiment results of specimens. Increasing the radius of capital can improve the bearing capacity of nodes and reduce the moment transfer effect obviously.

AbstractMagnets are at the core of both circular and linear accelerators. The main function of a magnet is to guide the charged particle beam by virtue of the Lorentz force, given by the following expression:where q is the electrical charge of the particle, v its velocity, and B the magnetic field induction. The trajectory of a particle in the field depends hence on the particle velocity and on the space distribution of the field. The simplest case is that of a uniform magnetic field with a single component and velocity v normal to it, in which case the particle trajectory is a circle. A uniform field has thus a pure bending effect on a charged particle, and the magnet that generates it is generally referred to as a dipole.

Abstract. Increasingly stringent regulations force automotive manufacturers to reduce their product weights without compromising passenger safety. To overcome this problem, high strength steels are used that enable a higher payload capacity whilst reducing the plate thickness and overall weight. However, high strength steels are generally associated with lower formability and significantly greater springback compared to mild steels. In the current study, bendability characteristics of high strength S700MC steel in mild temperatures are investigated using V-bending tests. A temperature range between 25°C and 650°C is analysed. Springback characteristics as well as hardness distribution along the thickness direction in the bent area is investigated for several bent samples.

In recent years, the use of optimization methods in sheet metal forming has been increased remarkably. In the finite element simulation of the sheet metal stamping operations, the model parameters are determined from the several tests like tensile, compression, and biaxial stretching tests (bulge test). In this study, Yld2000-2d anisotropic yield function parameters are determined for DP800 advanced high strength steel using a 60° V-shaped die bending process. The difference between the simulation and experiment is found to be 1 degree using the classical determination method of the anisotropy parameters. The difference is 0.1 degree using the optimization method.

Abstract This paper presents a novel approach for detecting channel hole bending (ChB) defects in vertical NAND flash memory. Such defects are the result of etching process inconsistencies and contribute to data loss and device failure by inducing leakage current between adjacent channel holes. In order to satisfy long-term reliability requirements and volume demand, chipmakers must be able to detect these defects prior to shipping during electrical die sorting and screening procedures. The proposed method works by monitoring leakage current differences between diagonally and horizontally adjacent memory cells and is shown to be an effective screening technique.

Abstract:
We investigated the bending and rolling limit of 9Cr-1Mo-V steel plate used in pressure vessels for the purpose of improving its manufacturing efficiency. Hereafter in this report, the bending limit refers to bending by press or by roller. It includes acceptable crack size, temperature, introduced plastic strain and other factors. When fracture toughness tests of 9Cr-1Mo-V steel plate were performed at bending temperature in production, unstable fracture rarely occurred. Since fracture probability during the bending process seems to be low, it was not possible to evaluate aspects of the degree of safety factor for brittle fracture. To estimate the bending limit at high temperature where unstable fracture rarely occurs, a method was proposed for estimating fracture probability using master curve and failure assessment diagram (FAD). In order to verify the proposed method, loading tests simulating the bending process were performed. The bending limits obtained from the loading tests were in good agreement with the values predicted by the proposed method. In this study, guidelines such as required toughness value and bending temperature for preventing brittle fracture during the bending process of 9Cr-1Mo-V steel plate were investigated.

Abstract:
In this study, the bending and rolling limit of 9Cr-1Mo-V steel plate welded using submerged arc welding (SAW) was investigated. Hereafter in this report, the bending limit refers to bending by press or by roller. Since heat treatment after welding and before the bending process may be effective in preventing brittle fracture during bending, the effect of postweld heat treatment (PWHT) for improving toughness was evaluated by Larson-Miller parameter (LMP). Charpy impact tests of SAW welded parts made of 9Cr-1Mo-V steel plates were performed, and the absorbed energy of the weld metal was lower than that of the heat affected zone (HAZ) and the base metal, however the absorbed energy was recovered by PWHT. The absorbed energy increased as LMP increased. The reference temperature T0 for the master curve method was estimated by the results of Charpy impact tests. The bending limit was estimated by the method proposed in the previous study. The fracture probability during the bending process seems to decrease as LMP increases.

Abstract:
Cracking tests for evaluating the susceptibility of the heat affected zone (HAZ) to hydrogen cracking during welding often give ambiguous results because cracks occur in the weld metal rather than the HAZ. To solve this problem, a simple bend test was developed in which a Charpy V-notch was cut in the HAZ after welding the specimen thus ensuring cracks occurred in the desired location when the specimen was subsequently loaded in three-point bending. The test was shown to effectively respond to changes in hydrogen content and base metal composition. The test provides a quantitative measure of susceptibility and it was demonstrated that this could be used to predict crackling behavior in more complex welds.

Abstract:
The goals of this research program were to: (1) assess the mechanical and fracture properties of spiral-welded pipe, (2) characterize the crack initiation and maximum load carrying capacity, and (3) determine stress magnification factors for helical flaws. Flattened-strap tensile tests, Charpy V-notch (CVN) tests, and JIC fracture toughness tests were performed to meet the first objective. Results showed that tensile properties are independent of specimen orientation, while CVN data varied by as much as 3 to 1 for parallel vs. transverse machined specimens. Full-scale pipe fracture experiments were conducted to meet the second and third objectives. Results showed that crack initiation was parallel to the rolling direction regardless of the principle stress direction. Stress magnification factors were also developed for through-wall and surface cracks under longitudinal and circumferential stresses. These factors allow design engineers to predict the critical bending stress, circumferential stress, and flaw size for spiral-welded pipe.
