Snyder, Iliana. "Assessing Perceived Marriage Education Needs and Interests of Latino Individuals in Utah County, Utah." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2006. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/1113.

Full text
Abstract:
This study utilized focus groups to assess the perceived needs and interests for marriage education among single and married Latino individuals residing in Utah County, Utah as well as the identification of common themes and differences for this population. Male and female groups at various points in the marital developmental life stage were studied including high school students (15-18 years of age), single never married young adults (19-30 years of age), committed (engaged or cohabiting) adults, married persons recently transitioning to parenting, and married people with children. The sample consisted of 10 groups, 5 female and 5 male. In addition, a professional group consisting of professionals who are in daily contact with the Latino population also participated (N=12). A total of 53 Latino individuals and 12 professionals were interviewed in the focus groups. The participants were asked 14 open-ended questions to assess various elements of marriage education including content, cost, convenient locations, sources of information, perceived barriers to getting services as well as strategies on how to get people involved in marriage education programs. The data from the focus groups were analyzed using inductive qualitative methods. The findings showed that most females were concerned about domestic violence and infidelity as topics in marriage education while males were more concerned about having financial stability, improving communication skills and increase their parenting skills. These results support the importance of conducting focus groups as a way to assess marriage education needs and interests of the Latino population. Limitations for future research are discussed, implications for marriage education programming for Latino couples as well as implications for marriage and family therapists.

Henderson, Ann E. "4-H Contest Winners in Utah: Risk and Protective Factors." DigitalCommons@USU, 1999. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2599.

Full text
Abstract:
This study describes levels of asset development and involvement in at-risk behaviors among 4-H youth. To collect the data, 202 4-H teens participating in the 1996 Utah State 4-H Contests completed surveys. Results reveal numerous differences between males and females. Females scored significantly higher on 18 of 29 assets. Males reported significantly higher levels of involvement on 8 of 10 at-risk behaviors. Significant differences existed between types of 4-H clubs on 4 of 29 assets and 1 of I 0 at-risk behaviors. No significant differences were found based on grade in school, years in 4-H, number of 4-H project areas, and number of 4-H events. The study revealed that these 4-H members have developed personal assets related to family, education, individual skills, and involvement in positive activities. The majority have never participated in at-risk activities (drugs- 90%; sexual intercourse- 85%; criminal activities- 80%; and alcohol or shoplifting- 77%). These 4-H youth are laying solid foundations for their futures.

Ascione, Deborah Brown. "Profiles and Trends in Catholic Interfaith Marriages in Utah." DigitalCommons@USU, 1990. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2462.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the phenomenon of interfaith marriage. It is a comparative study using archival data. Utah Catholic interfaith marriage trends over 31 years were compared with three other Catholic dioceses in the United States similar in size or in other demographic characteristics. Results indicate that Utah is not atypical in its intermarriage patterns. In addition, a micro-level analysis of Catholic interfaith marriages at three points in time was conducted for the Diocese of Salt Lake alone. Statistical analysis employed primarily measures of central tendency. Results indicate that Catholics intermarrying in Utah are older than the national median, that Catholic women marry out almost twice as frequently as Catholic men, that over time Catholics in Utah intermarry most often with Mormons, and that most Catholic intermarriage takes place in the Salt Lake metroplex, an urban rather than rural area.

Harris, Sharon S. "Marital Commitment and Religiosity in a Sample of Adults in Utah." DigitalCommons@USU, 2005. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2851.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examined the relationship of three types of martial commitment and religiosity factors in a random sample of I ,316 Utah adults. Participants were surveyed to assess attitudes of marriage, divorce, and marriage education. A lack of commitment was cited by 83% of divorced adults as a major factor for their divorce. The level of commitment to spouse, commitment to marriage, and constraint commitment was determined by extrapolating items from the 2003 Utah Marriage Movement Statewide Baseline Survey. Religiosity included measures of the frequency of church attendance, church affiliation, and religious values. Regression analyses that included socio-demographics showed the strongest and most consistent predictor of commitment to spouse and commitment to marriage was religious values. This study confirms the distinct difference but strong interplay between the three types of marital commitment. There was a negative relationship between both commitment to spouse and commitment to marriage and constraint commitment. Premarital cohabitation was positively related to constraint commitment but negatively related to commitment to spouse and commitment to marriage. Frequency of church attendance, conservative church affiliation (particularly The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints religion), and religious values were all significant factors related statistically to marital commitment. Study findings suggest that educators and marriage therapists engaged in helping couples can productively focus on marital commitment, the influence of religious activity, and belief systems in strengthening marriage relationships.

Evans, David A. "Predictors of 1997 Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Completion and Dismissal Rates in Utah." DigitalCommons@USU, 2004. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2853.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was two-fold. The first intention was to identify a group of debtor characteristics that predicted discharge among Chapter 13 bankruptcy filers in the district of Utah from 1997. The second objective was to use that same set of characteristics to predict the likelihood of dismissal at three critical stages of the bankruptcy process. Those stages were identified, first, as the period before the 341 hearing or meeting of creditors (n = 115 or 12.7%), second, before confirmation of the debtor's repayment plan (n = 267 or 29.4%), third, the period after confirmation of the plan and before discharge (n = 286 or 31 .5%). Once the best group of characteristics was discovered, the effects of demographic characteristics were compared against those of economic debtor characteristics as predictors of the outcome of the Chapter 13 cases. The results of the study show that demographic characteristics were, in general, better predictors than economic factors of the disposition of the Chapter 13 cases within the sample. Discharged and dismissed debtors were found to have statistically significantly different levels of certain types of debts based on pairwise t-test results. Although limited to one district, this study was the first to examine the likelihood of dismissal at three stages of bankruptcy prior to discharge. The study concluded that single debtors, debtors with children, debtors with previous bankruptcies, and those with higher levels of mortgage arrears were the most likely to be dismissed before completion of their repayment plan. Plan completion was generally achieved by those with higher job tenure and debtors with a mortgage. The results of the study support arguments against changes in current bankruptcy law and warrant further investigation of low Chapter 13 repayment plan completion rates in the district of Utah.

Criddle, Monte N. "The Relationship Between Mandatory Divorce Education in Utah and the Level of Postdivorce Parental Conflict." DigitalCommons@USU, 1999. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2721.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine if there was an association between current level of conflict between divorced parents and their attendance or nonattendance at the divorce education pilot program. A telephone interview was used to examine current level of postdivorce conflict. The first portion of the telephone interview used questions that were taken from the Family of Origin Scale (FOS). Questions were selected as they related to various stages of divorce. The second portion of the questionnaire obtained sociodemographic data. as well as information regarding relitigation. The telephone interview was administered to 160 individuals who participated in the divorce education pilot program and to 59 individuals who did not participate. Hypothesis one stated that attendance at the divorce education program will not be associated with the current level of postdivorce conflict. This hypothesis was rejected as a statistically significant association between postdivorce conflict and class attendance was demonstrated. Both males and females in the nonattendance group had higher mean conflict scores than the attendance group. Also, females in both groups had higher mean conflict scores than their male counterparts. Hypothesis two stated that attendance at the divorce education program will not be associated with the number of custody and visitation legal issues since the initial custody arrangement. Hypothesis two was also rejected as attendance at the divorce education class was found to be weakly associated with whether a subject will return to court or not. A demographic summary for subjects returning to court was also created. The need for continued research on postdivorce conflict was addressed. The theoretical implications of the study were highlighted. as well as other recommendations concerning the role of marriage and family therapists who work with families experiencing divorce.

Ramboz, Bryan D. "Premarital Education: Participation, Attitudes, and Relation to Marital Adjustment in a Sample from Northern Utah." DigitalCommons@USU, 2003. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2855.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes, participation in, and potential effectiveness of premarital education as a vehicle to promote more satisfying marriages. A retrospective survey instrument, including existing measures of religious values, willingness to invest in marriage, and marital satisfaction, was used to gather data to answer research questions related to couples' participation in, and attitudes about premarital education, and their influence on marital adjustment and satisfaction. Information about the amount of Time spent in premarital education, breadth of Topics covered, Training of the provider, and whether or not Testing was performed also was gathered and called Four T's of premarital education. Sample couples were identified by comparing marriage license information to current telephone listings from Cache County, Utah. One hundred forty-five couples returned usable surveys. Statistical analysis revealed that most couples participated in little or no premarital education even though most couples had favorable attitudes towards such marriage preparations. Further, no significant relation was found between participation in any type of premarital education and marital adjustment or satisfaction. Implications for policy and practice are discussed.

Llewellyn, Bonny C. "A Profile and Analysis of Repeat Bankruptcy Petitioners in the District of Utah 1984-2004." DigitalCommons@USU, 2005. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2849.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to describe the incidence of repeat filers in Utah and estimate the extent that repeat filers may be abusing the bankruptcy system. This study sought to develop a profile of repeat filers . Demographic and financial variables were examined to detem1ine their association with abuser/nonabuser status. In this study, abuse of bankruptcy was characterized only by the timing and number of filings over 20 years. Debtors with three filings in a 2-year period or less and debtors with four or more total filings were classified as abusers. Nonabusers were defined as debtors who filed only once as well as debtors who had two or three scattered filings over the 20-year period. About I I% of the total sample appeared to be abusing the bankruptcy system by filing repeatedly. The majority (76.2%) of the I 997 cases filed by abusers were dismissed while only 23.8% received a discharge of their unsecured debts. Only five (2.9%) of the I 71 abusers who filed chapter I 3 in I 997 completed their payment plan and received a discharge of their debts. The logistic regression model found chapter (7 versus 13), filing status, unsecured debt, and monthly income to be the most significant variables in estimating abuse. Males and females filing alone were nearly 50% less likely than joint filers to be abusers. Chapter 13 debtors are nearly five times as likely to be abusers when compared to chapter 7 debtors. Filers who had unsecured debt levels above the median were less likely to be abusers, and filers who had incomes above the median were almost twice as likely to be abusers. Realistic repayment plans that pay careful attention to construction of budgets and a financial counselor to work with debtors who miss payments is one approach to combating abuse by repeat filing. Judges may need to discipline attorneys who file cases repeatedly. Perhaps a new Code is not what we need to combat abusers; instead, closer monitoring of cases by trustees, more responsible attorneys, and more responsible lending are needed.

Schiwal, Alexandra T. "Rural Aging: The Geographic Reach of Service Access in Utah, Identifying Barriers and Solutions." DigitalCommons@USU, 2019. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/7639.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation includes two studies of rural age-related services in the state of Utah. The first study combines geospatial, demographic data (number of people over 55) and age-related services (hospitals, hospice providers, nursing homes, senior centers, and Areas Agencies on Aging) at the county level and census-tract level to determine localized differences in proportional access to age-related services. Higher and lower proportions are then predicted by contextual factors including rural/urban gradient, economic industry, and broadband access. Results demonstrate that broadband access was significantly associated with higher access to age-related services, but being a retirement destination (increase in people over 65 in county from 2000-2010) was associated with lower spatial access to age-related services. The second study involved in-depth interviews with stakeholders from communities across Utah, and qualitative analysis to identify specific barriers to age-related service access in their communities. This approach generated knowledge about challenges to accessing services and stakeholder-supported starting points and solutions for overcoming some of the identified barriers to age-related services in these communities. Taken together, the spatial data and responses from persons living and serving older adults in rural communities complement an understanding of facilitators and barriers to service access, paired with solutions.

Jepsen, Jacob P. "Detecting Remnants of the Past: Archaeo-Geophysical Prospection of Fremont Sites in Southern Utah Valley." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2021. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/9153.

Full text
Abstract:
The variable contexts of Fremont habitation sites in Utah Valley often make identification of those sites very challenging for archaeologists. Pit houses and other structures throughout the valley are frequently in plowed fields or other disturbed contexts that obscure their more exact location and nature. The application of geophysical technologies at archaeological sites throughout the world, including in North America, has proven to be an effective means of subsurface archaeological survey. However, geophysical techniques have been underutilized in Fremont archaeology. This paper reports on the employment of two geophysical methods, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and fluxgate gradiometer surveys, at three known Fremont habitation sites in southern Utah Valley – the Wolf Village, Wolf Mound, and Snow Farm sites. The preliminary geophysical surveys and later ground-truthing of various geophysical anomalies reveals the effectiveness of these methods in identifying where architectural or other cultural features exist below the surface.

Abstract:
This is a systematic representative sample study of newlyweds designed to investigate aspects of participation in marriage preparation activities as well as determine what effect participation in activities had on marital satisfaction. A retrospective survey instrument was utilized which included the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale. Statistical analysis revealed that the majority of individuals in Utah prepare for marriage by visiting with parents or relatives, visiting with other married couples, and talking with religious leaders, and considered these activities to be helpful in their preparation. The small er percentage of individuals who participated in more formal preparation activities also considered these activities to be very helpful. Wives and husbands who attended a class and talked with religious leaders showed significant increases in marital satisfaction within a year after marriage. In addition, marital sati sfaction was increased for wives who read a book on marriage and for husbands who visited with their parents, relatives, or other married couples. Findings show that bringing children into marriage, parents' marital status, and age are factors associated with marital satisfaction.

Schramm, David G. "An Assessment of Marital Satisfaction, Marital Adjustment, and Problematic Areas During the First Few Months of Marriage Among a Sample of Newlyweds in Utah." DigitalCommons@USU, 2003. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2740.

Full text
Abstract:
A self-selected sample of232 newlywed husbands and wives in Utah was surveyed to assess marital satisfaction, marital adjustment, and problematic areas during the first few months of marriage. The study utilized the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale (KMSS) and the Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS), in addition to a list of30 potential problematic areas created by Creighton University to measure these constructs. Although the majority of the newlyweds in this sample were fairly satisfied and well adjusted, II% of both husbands and wives scored in the distressed range on the RDAS, signaling that the first few months of marriage can be a time of tension and strain for some couples. Many demographic and interactional history variables were tested as to how well they predict marital satisfaction and marital adjustment among newlywed husbands and wives, and only husbands' religiosity and whether a child was brought into the marriage were significant predictors of both husbands' and wives' marital satisfaction and marital adjustment scores. The most problematic areas for both husbands and wives were balancing employment and marriage and the presence of debt brought into marriage. When regression analyses were carried out that included demographics and problematic areas, a high degree of religiosity among husbands and wives was the strongest and most consistent predictor of marital satisfaction and marital adjustment. However, it was the problematic areas in the relationship that accounted for the majority of the variance in marital satisfaction and marital adjustment scores, rather than the demographic variables alone. Thus, it appears that the demographic variables affect the likelihood that various marital problems would arise, which, in tum, increased the likelihood of lower marital satisfaction and marital adjustment among both husbands and wives. These findings suggest that educators and others helping engaged couples and newlyweds should focus more on the problematic areas that often arise in marriage, which are noted in this study, rather than the demographic and interactional characteristics couples bring to the marriage. Moreover, it is suggested that marriage education strategies be centered on engaged and newlywed couples to assist them in adjusting to the new roles and expectations they encounter.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine change in symptoms of anxiety and satisfaction experienced by participants who received acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) by using technologically assisted psychotherapeutic interventions (TAPI). TAPI utilizes the internet as a medium to make mental health services available and accessible to people residing in rural communities. The participants in this study were women who were experiencing severe levels of anxiety and lived in a rural community. Measures were taken at three different points in the study (pretherapy, posttherapy, and 6-months posttherapy). Participants received therapy over the internet via Macromedia Breeze videoconferencing to reduce symptoms of an anxiety disorder. Seven women from rural Utah communities volunteered to participate in the study. This study found that symptoms of anxiety were reduced immediately posttherapy and that the change was sustained 6-months posttherapy. In regards to the satisfaction, participants indicated high levels of satisfaction with their TAPI experience. This high level of satisfaction was maintained 6-months posttherapy. (89 pages)

Full text
Abstract:
This study included a representative random sample of 886 married individuals in Utah. This sample was surveyed to discover the relationship between demographic variables, reported mental health issues, and marital quality. In addition, this study sought to discover models, using demographic variables and reported mental health issues, to predict for separate dimensions of marital quality. This survey was a replication of a study completed primarily in Oklahoma, with the addition of questions about the participants' mental health. Spearman's rho, Pearson's R, and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. The results of the study show that: religious beliefs had a statistically significant relationship with commitment/satisfaction, with stability, and negative interactions. Religious activity had a statistically significant relationship with commitment/satisfaction, and negative interactions. The duration of marriage had a statistically significant relationship with stability, negative interactions, and age at time of current marriage. The models found for predicting the separate dimensions of marital quality including commitment and satisfaction, stability, and negative interactions were all robust. Implications and recommendations are discussed.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to create a profile of Mutual Self-Help participants in Utah, measure their satisfaction with the program, and identify factors that lead to the willingness of participants to refer the program to others. The sample consisted of program participants at Neighborhood Nonprofit Housing Corporation and Rural Community Development Corporation from 2002 to 2009. A survey instrument was used to collect the data from the 114 responses. Descriptive statistics were used to create the profile of clients, satisfaction scores were analyzed with a t test, and a logistic regression was used to identify factors that contribute to participant referrals. Clients were on average White, had 2.4 dependents, and had at least some college or vocational education. Most were first-time homeowners, had more than $20,000 in equity, and had never missed a payment. The majority of clients reported high levels of satisfaction with the program, their home, and the neighborhood. Satisfaction with their home proved to be the major predictor of referring the program to others, significant at less than .01. The findings indicate that program participants are satisfied with the program. They have high levels of satisfaction, are likely to refer the program to others, and have derived significant benefits from the program in terms of equity and stability. This information can be used by nonprofits who administer the program, the USDA Rural Development who funds the program, and legislators who determine funding levels to assess the inputs and outputs of the program and better serve their clients.

Thesis, Högskolan i Gävle, Samhällsbyggnad, 2021. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hig:diva-36795.

Full text
Abstract:
During the year 2020, one of the first lawsuits in three-dimensional property formation came. This led to reactions among those who work with property development. After a consulting firm conducted a seminar on the case, it emerged that those who work with property development were not satisfied with the first paragraph in Chapter 3. 1a§, second paragraph of the Property Development Act, also called the financing condition. They felt that a change in the financing condition was needed or that the financing condition should be removed completely. This leads to the purpose of this study: to examine how the examination / handling of the financing condition has been carried out to get an idea of how the condition has been handled until now. The study will also go deeper into why the business surveyors who work with property formation think that the condition requires a change. In this study, a questionnaire survey, interviews and a study of administrative acts were conducted to answer the study's questions. The results show that the administrative documents are difficult to read with regard to how the financing condition has been handled or how deep an examination at a procedure goes. From the surveys and interviews, there has been a better result which shows that the trial has been partly deficient but also that there are several situations where the surveyor considers that the condition is met without having tried the condition. The survey and the interviews have shown similar results as the seminar, that is, those who work with property development believe that the financing condition needs a change. The conclusion is that the examination / handling of the financing condition has not been entirely in accordance with the bill, but that a change has taken place and that the examination is more similar to the proposition today. At the same time, we see that the financing condition has probably been met in many of the procedures that have been carried out, regardless of whether a detailed examination has been carried out or not. The conclusion regarding the business surveyors' opinion that the financing condition needs a change is that those whom proposition wanted to prevent have not been a problem and that there are other problems with three-dimensional property that are formed before the facility is built. So a change in the condition somehow they consider important.

Abstract:
This study is carried out during the spring of 2015 and six semi-structured interviews are conducted to form the basis of a case study. Its aim is to map and analyze the integration work performed in the municipality of Nässjö. The purpose of this study is to survey the work being performed in the municipality of Nässjö regarding integration of immigrants, and to identify crucial factors related to a potential collaboration between actors from the public sector and the civil society. - How are the chosen participants working with integration in the municipality of Nässjö? - In what way are the chosen participants currently cooperating with the public sector and the civil society in the municipality of Nässjö regarding integration? - How do the chosen participants find the idea of a joint collaboration regarding integration, between the public sector and the civil society in the municipality of Nässjö? With the use of an analyze model called “the constant comparative method”, the study compares and interprets the collected data. All of the informants are representatives of their respective establishment which either belonged to the civil society or to the public sector in the municipality of Nässjö. To assess whether the integration actors are susceptible to the idea of working collaboratively, their responses are compared to a theoretical framework called “collaborative governance”. The collected data is also set in relation to previous research regarding the situation of integration policies in Sweden. The result chapter displays the work performed by the interviewed establishments and the extent of their cooperation to improve the integration process of immigrants in the municipality. It also lists the various challenges the actors face and the possibility for one of them to have a leading role in a comprehensive and joint collaboration. The case study illuminates a reality where no common goal regarding integration exists amongst the selected actors. Complicated bureaucracy and regulations constitute discouraging factors that adversely affect the will of civil society actors to engage in collaboration with the public sector. The level of communication within the municipality is highly fragmented, it is found to be more developed within the civil society and to a lesser extent within the public sector. Finally, the case study suggests that there is no history of antagonism among the actors within the civil society.

Abstract:
With Legal pluralism, a state has more than one legal system in which rights can be attributed to citizens through private or religious actors. Lebanon has established religious family law through the constitutional charter, in which personal status is delegated to the country’s different confessions to govern. Citizens of different confessions are thus assigned different rights which particularly tends to affect the rights of women.  In this study, the impacts of Lebanon's legal pluralism on the legal status of women is being examined to give an understanding of how the legal system from a gender perspective, and to examine how the outcome affects women’s everyday life by the coexistence of religious and civil courts. The study also examines how Lebanon, with its current constitution, can fulfill the international law obligations stemming follow from the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Through legal methods and semi-structured interviews made with civil society, legal and academic persons in Beirut - the current laws in Lebanon were analyzed based on the concepts of gender, male dominance, and private and public sphere to visualize the relationship of gender and its significance in the Lebanese legal system. The results of the study show that legal pluralism in Lebanon can be understood in relation to how the complex history of the country has influenced the formation of the judicial system in which a male norm is dominating. The rights of women have been thrust to the private sphere and a masculine norm permeates the Constitution, family law and civil laws, which creates gender segregation in society. Thus, gender affects the legal status of women and the impacts of legal pluralism affect their daily lives negatively as their legal status is subordinate to men regarding marriage and its dissolution, custody of children, and nationality.                       Regarding the Conventional right, the study shows that the current constitution allows for space to fulfill CEDAW. Thus, the protection of the Convention is not being fully implemented in neither the personal status related laws or civil laws. However, Lebanon has reservations towards key articles of the Convention which result in that the full potential of the Convention is not maintained.

Abstract:

This research explores the spatial and temporal patterns as revealed in the Taiwan genealogical catalogue. Genealogy books can be seen as a kind of local historical documents. It is a Chinese tradition to keep genealogy books so that family members and key events in the family can be recorded. From Han majority to other ethnic minority groups, from royal families to normal citizens, many people can find their family records through genealogy books. When Han migrated from mainland China to Taiwan more than three hundred years ago, they developed the land of Taiwan. Genealogy books that they kept allow researchers to understand the clusters of families, their migration patterns as well as the evolution of different regions in Taiwan. In a large scale, one can observe how the society evolves. In a small scale, one can get a glimpse into an individual’s life path. In addition, genealogy books store abundant demographic information, allowing us to understand the marital status, gender distribution, birth rate, death rate, life span and other information of residents in different areas. In recent years, there is a rising interest to collect and analyze local historical documents such as genealogy books from public, private, academic and civil organizations in China, Taiwan, the United States and Canada. The aim is not only to establish database gleaned from genealogy books, but also to manage metadata so as to facilitate further research. Against this background, since 1975, The Genealogical Society of Utah starts to survey and collect genealogy books in Taiwan and further compiles a Taiwan genealogical catalogue. This study analyzes the draft manuscript of the catalogue collected by The Genealogical Society of Utah. Information such as ethnicity, ancestry, years of publishing genealogy books, administration regions where genealogy books are located, and different styles of creating genealogy books (e.g., hand-written, printed) are stored in Excel file. Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS) is used to generate frequency and contingency tables, while FactoMineR package in R is used to run correspondence analysis (CA) to further explore the temporal and spatial patterns. Correspondence analysis shows that, except for the relationship between the years of publishing genealogy books and ethnicity which is not statistically significant, there is statistically significant association (p < 0.05) between variables of 1) surname and style, 2) surname and publication year, 3) surname and region where a particular genealogy book is located, 4) surname and ethnicity, 5) style and publication year, 6) region where a particular genealogy book is located and style, 7) style and ethnicity, 8) region where a particular genealogy book is located and publication year, and lastly 9) region where a particular genealogy book is located and ethnicity. Since the results of correspondence analysis indicate highly significant association among those attributes, it is worthwhile to explore and analyze the genealogical dataset more thoroughly and extensively in future research.
